Freddie Bynum, SS, Washington NationalsSunday 12/14, 11:07 AM CT
The Nationals have signed Freddie Bynum to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.

Our View: Bynum's ability to play shortstop could prove to be important if Cristian Guzman's past propensity to injury returns, but Bynum has no value until then.

The Orioles have purchased Freddie Bynum's contract from Triple-A Norfolk, according to the AP. He will fill the roster spot for Alex Cintron, who landed on the 15-day DL due to a strained left hamstring.

Our View: Bynum is back with the Orioles, but is not worth targeting as he was only hitting .192 over 99 at-bats, and will be fighting for playing time at shortstop with Brandon Fahey while Cintron is on the shelf.
Freddie Bynum, SS, Washington NationalsSunday 6/22, 12:07 PM CT
The Orioles have designated infielder Freddie Bynum for assignment, according to the Baltimore Sun.

Our View: Bynum has failed to meet expectations on offense and has found Alex Cintron getting the bulk of the work on the field. To fill the roster spot vacated by Bynum, the Orioles have recalled pitcher Ryan Bukvich from Triple-A Norfolk.

Freddie Bynum rode the pine on Wednesday in favor of Alex Cintron at shortstop, according to the Baltimore Sun.

Our View: Bynum is struggling at the plate as he is currently in a 3-for-28 (.107) slump, but Manager Dave Trembley just wanted to get Cintron some action to keep him sharp. Bynum is not in jeopardy of losing his starting job at shortstop, and is still carrying his weight with his glove, as he only made one error over 20 games.
Freddie Bynum, SS, Washington NationalsThursday 5/8, 8:21 PM CT
Freddie Bynum was recalled by the Orioles and he will start at shortstop for the foreseeable future over Luis Hernandez, according to MLB.com. "To be honest with you," Orioles manager Dave Trembley said, "there have been a lot of plays that could've been made and should've been made that weren't made. So we gotta try something different. That's it."

Our View: The Orioles have gotten abysmal offense from Hernandez and Brian Fahey at shortstop, so the hope is that Bynum can bring a spark with his speed. Jump all over him if he is on waivers in your AL Only league.

Freddie Bynum, who is on an injury rehab assignment at Double-A Bowie, said he is pain-free and hopes to rejoin the Orioles after Bowie returns from a four-game series in New Britain that begins tonight, according to the Baltimore Sun. He is recovering from right knee surgery.

Freddie Bynum, SS, Washington NationalsFriday 4/18, 10:35 AM CT
Freddie Bynum (knee) has been playing in extended spring training games over the last four days, the Baltimore Sun reveals.

Freddie Bynum, SS, Washington NationalsSaturday 4/12, 11:15 AM CT
Freddie Bynum said that he felt no pain after returning to full baseball activities, and added that he will begin playing games in extended spring training on Monday, according to the Washington Post. Bynum hopes to be ready next month, as he recovers from arthroscopic surgery on his right knee.

Our View: The utility man was going to contend for the starting shortstop job before giving in to surgery, and could hold some fantasy value later in the season.
Freddie Bynum, SS, Washington NationalsSaturday 3/8, 4:46 PM CT
Freddie Bynum will have arthroscopic surgery on his right knee and miss at least five weeks, ending his bid to be Baltimore's starting shortstop on opening day, according to SI.com. Bynum was competing with Luis Hernandez and Brandon Fahey to fill the void at shortstop left by the offseason trade of Miguel Tejada to the Houston Astros. By submitting to surgery, Bynum eliminated himself from contention.

Freddie Bynum received bad news when an MRI revealed that he has a slight tear in the meniscus in his right knee, according to the Baltimore Sun. However, he was able to run, hit and throw on Friday. "I'm trying to test it right now to see where I'm at," said Bynum. "Today was my first day doing anything. I'm still clueless. I don't know how it's going to feel tomorrow, so I just have to wait and see." He's hoping to avoid surgery, which would cost him a few weeks and a shot at competing to win the starting shortstop job or a utility role.
Freddie Bynum, SS, Washington NationalsTuesday 3/4, 6:44 PM CT
Freddie Bynum underwent an MRI on his right knee Monday, according to the Baltimore Sun. The results weren't yet available, but Bynum said he didn't think it was anything serious. Well, it must have been at least a bit concerning in order to warrant an MRI. We'll have more details as they become available.

The Orioles activated Freddie Bynum from the 15-day disabled list Monday. He had been out since July 7 with a strained left hamstring. He's batting .277 with two homers and eight RBI in 48 games.

Our View: Bynum will resume his utility role with the Orioles.
Freddie Bynum, SS, Washington NationalsSunday 8/19, 6:21 AM CT

Freddie Bynum, SS, Washington NationalsMonday 8/13, 10:08 PM CT
Freddie Bynum was expected to work out with Double-A Bowie on Monday and Tuesday before possibly beginning another rehab assignment, according to the AP. Bynum is over the strained hamstring that put him on the DL, but received five stitches in his left hand after sliding into a base during a rehab assignment with Single-A Delmarva on Sunday.

Freddie Bynum, SS, Washington NationalsSaturday 7/28, 6:39 AM CT

Freddie Bynum, SS, Washington NationalsSunday 3/25, 7:02 AM CT
Freddie Bynum is making it hard on the O's to keep him as their final reserve, as he's hitting just .152 this spring, according to the Baltimore Sun. "Obviously, the fact that he can play infield and outfield puts him ahead of some people," manager Sam Perlozzo said. "But it's still going to come down to whether I need the versatility more in the infield and outfield, or would outfield just be enough. It helps him, no question."
Freddie Bynum, SS, Washington NationalsWednesday 12/6, 8:10 PM CT
The Orioles acquired Freddie Bynum from the Cubs Wednesday in exchange for a player to be named later, according to the Sports Network. Bynum, who hit .254 with four homers, 20 RBI and eight swipes in 136 at-bats with the Cubs last year, can play all three outfield positions and will be used in a utility role by the O's.
