Jason Michaels, CF, Houston AstrosFriday 8/7, 9:59 PM CT
Jason Michaels helped Bud Norris earn his second straight win on Friday, hitting two home runs and driving in four runs, as the Astros beat Milwaukee 6-3 at home.

Our View: Michaels is about as far as you can get from being a fantasy option. The part time player has just three home runs to go along with a .211 average this season.
Jason Michaels, CF, Houston AstrosSunday 7/19, 9:02 AM CT
Jason Michaels was the only Astro with an RBI on Saturday, as Houston lost 5-2 in Los Angeles.

Our View: He has only seven on the season, and is not an option in any format.
Jason Michaels, CF, Houston AstrosSaturday 3/21, 8:35 AM CT
Jason Michaels, who had been dealing with discomfort in his lrft hamstring, is expected to be cleared to return to the field today, according to the Houston Chronicle. He was previously limited to pinch-hitting and working as a DH.

Our View: Michaels will try to play a few innings today, and then progress from there. He is competing for a reserve spot in the outfield.
Jason Michaels, CF, Houston AstrosTuesday 3/17, 10:30 AM CT
The Astros indicated that Jason Michaels will be limited to pinch-hitting for a few days due to some discomfort in his strained hamstring, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Michaels should still make the Astros as a reserve outfielder, but would only see enough action to be an option for deeper NL-only leagues.
Jason Michaels, CF, Houston AstrosSaturday 3/14, 8:12 AM CT
Jason Michaels has been cleared to play following his bout with a mild hamstring strain, according to the Houston Chronicle.

Our View: The 32-year-old vet returns in enough time to earn a backup spot in the Astros' outfield, but should only be productive enough to consider for the deepest of NL-only leagues, barring injuries.
Jason Michaels, CF, Houston AstrosTuesday 3/10, 8:01 AM CT
Jason Michaels did some running Monday and may be ready to return to game action later this week, according to the Houston Chronicle. He is recovering from a mild left hamstring strain.

Our View: Michaels provides the versatility to play all three outfield spots, but his fantasy value will be limited as a reserve.
Jason Michaels, CF, Houston AstrosSunday 3/8, 8:13 AM CT
Jason Michaels is nursing a mild left hamstring strain, according to the Houston Chronicle.

Our View: Michaels provides the versatility to play all three outfield spots, but is not expected to hold much fantasy value as a reserve.
Jason Michaels, CF, Houston AstrosMonday 12/15, 11:37 AM CT
Jason Michaels has inked a one-year deal with the Astros worth $750,000, according to the Hot Stove Blog on MLB.com.

Our View: Michaels can play all three outfield spots, and will add a veteran presence to the Astros. As a fantasy performer, his stock should remain low though.
Jason Michaels, CF, Houston AstrosSaturday 12/6, 11:41 AM CT
Jason Michaels has said he is confused by the Pirates lack of interest after they said that they want him back, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

Our View: Michaels only batted .224 last year with eight home runs and 53 RBI.
Jason Michaels, CF, Houston AstrosSunday 11/9, 1:50 PM CT
The Pirates are interested in re-signing Jason Michaels after declining his option, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

Our View: Michaels didn't have productive year for the Pirates, only batting .224 in 2008.
Jason Michaels, CF, Houston AstrosFriday 10/31, 7:52 PM CT
The AP reports that the Pittsburgh Pirates have declined their $2.6 million 2009 option on outfielder Jason Michaels.

Our View: He hit .224 last season, down from his .271 career average. The 32-year-old may struggle to make a major league roster next season.
Jason Michaels, CF, Houston AstrosThursday 10/16, 5:49 PM CT
The Pittsburgh Pirates will not pick up the $2.6 million option on Jason Michaels for next year, but they do want him back at a lower price, according to Pirates.com.

Our View: Michaels, who started the season with the Indians before coming to Pittsburgh, hit a lowly .224 with an OBP of .292, and his fantasy value is quite limited, at the very best.
Jason Michaels, CF, Houston AstrosSaturday 9/13, 8:36 PM CT
Jason Michaels has been ejected from Saturday's game against the Cardinals in the fifth inning for arguing over balls and strikes, according to the AP. Michaels struck out looking to end a four-run rally and then began arguing with plate umpire Paul Emmel.

Our View: Michaels holds little fantasy value and was pinch-hitting for reliever Denny Bautista when kicked out of the game.
Jason Michaels, CF, Houston AstrosFriday 8/1, 5:07 PM CT
Jason Michaels had two hits including his sixth home run of the season for the Pirates. Newly acquired Brandon Moss went 0-for-3.

Our View: Michaels is fighting for a full time job in the Pirates lineup with Xavier Nady now out of the picture. Michaels has two home runs and five RBI in his last five games as he makes his case for a big role down the stretch.
Jason Michaels, CF, Houston AstrosTuesday 6/17, 10:53 PM CT
The Pirates couldn't conjure enough offense or pitching this evening, resulting in a disappointing 16-5 loss to the Chicago White Sox. For the Pirates, outfielder Jason Michaels did what he could to help the cause, going 1-for-4 with a double to total two RBIs and one run scored on the night.

Our View: Michaels is hitting just .276 through June but has already doubled his run production over the month before, now touting 17 RBIs through June versus the seven he posted last month.
Jason Michaels, CF, Houston AstrosThursday 6/5, 9:07 PM CT
Jason Michaels hit a three run homer on Thursday night giving him home runs in back-to-back AB during which time he racked up an amazing seven RBI.

Our View: Over the past six games Michaels is 6-for-13 with 11 RBI, so in the obvious statement of the night, he should be picked up in NL Only leagues. Of course, Michaels isn't this type of hitter, so expect him to recede into the woodwork some time in the near future.
Jason Michaels, CF, Houston AstrosMonday 6/2, 10:20 PM CT
Jason Michaels socked his first homer of the year on Monday, and it was a good one. The outfielder came off the bench and hit a grand slam off Adam Wainwright.

Our View: Michaels is hitting .324 since the trade from the Indians to the Pirates, but he doesn't play regularly enough to be useful in most fantasy leagues.
Jason Michaels, CF, Houston AstrosThursday 5/8, 5:40 PM CT
Former Indians outfielder Jason Michaels was traded to the Pirates on Thursday for a minor league player to be named later, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Is this move a precursor to a trade of Jason Bay or Xavier Nady? Michaels could never in three seasons replace either of those players production, but he is a nice depth addition for the club and had no role to play in Cleveland when the team recalled Ben Francisco.
Jason Michaels, CF, Houston AstrosTuesday 5/6, 11:42 AM CT
Jason Michaels has officially been designated for assignment, according to the AP. Outfielder Ben Francisco has been recalled from Triple-A Buffalo, and Michaels was seen as expendable to free up a roster spot.

Our View: The 32-year old Michaels was struggling with a .207 average over 58 at-bats, with 13 strikeouts, and held no fantasy value prior to his demotion.
Jason Michaels, CF, Houston AstrosMonday 5/5, 8:58 AM CT
Jason Michaels could be released by the Indians, according to TheTribeTimeReport.com. Ben Francisco was pulled from the second game of a Double Header in Buffalo (Triple-A). If he is called up, then Michaels would be the likely casualty to free up a roster spot.

Our View: Michaels only hit .207 (no homers) over 58 at-bats this season. He holds no fantasy value, and is seemingly expendable to the Indians.
Jason Michaels, CF, Houston AstrosTuesday 4/29, 1:00 PM CT
Jason Michaels has collected six RBI over his last seven games, according to MLB.com.

Our View: He only has eight RBI over 19 games, though, and isn't worth targeting for your roster. He is hitting a mere .200 as well.
Jason Michaels, CF, Houston AstrosMonday 3/31, 2:27 PM CT
LF Jason Michaels is batting second against Chicago lefty Mark Buehrle on Monday, according to MLB.com. Asdrubal Cabrera will bat seventh. When a right-handed starter is on the bump for the opposing team, Manager Eric Wedge will bat Cabrera second, and left fielder David Dellucci seventh. Wedge commented, "It's subject to change. Initially, that's the way we're going to start things off, and we'll go from there."
Jason Michaels, CF, Houston AstrosSunday 3/16, 8:26 AM CT
The Indians have been contacted by some teams that are interested in acquiring Jason Michaels in a trade, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. The clubs think the Indians might be willing to deal Michaels, so they can move Ben Francisco into the left-field platoon with David Dellucci. It appears unlikely that the Indians will deal Michaels or Francisco, but you never know.
Jason Michaels, CF, Houston AstrosFriday 6/29, 10:20 AM CT
Jason Michaels hit a game-winning three-run homer on Thursday to extend his hit streak to 11 games. He is hitting .395 with 10 RBI during that stretch as he continues to get a lot of at-bats with David Dellucci out of the lineup.
Jason Michaels, CF, Houston AstrosThursday 6/21, 6:18 AM CT
Jason Michaels went 1-for-5 with a run scored in Wednesday's victory over the Phillies. Michaels will probably see most of the time in left field for the Indians while David Dellucci is on the disabled list.
Jason Michaels, CF, Houston AstrosSaturday 3/10, 9:10 AM CT
Jason Michaels will open the season platooning with David Dellucci in left field, though manager Eric Wedge said Michaels also will see some action in right and center at times, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. "I still might get a chance to play every day," Michaels said. "But every year is different. The platoon (with Michaels and Kenny Lofton) worked in Philly. David and I know how to prepare. I see it being successful here."
Jason Michaels, CF, Houston AstrosTuesday 11/28, 4:08 AM CT
Jason Michaels is probably looking at a reduced role in Cleveland with the imminent signing of David Dellucci, according to the AP. The Tribe has promised Dellucci a starting spot in left field, which moves Michaels to the bench.
