Mark Prior, P, San Diego PadresSaturday 8/1, 2:09 PM CT
The Padres will release pitcher Mark Prior, possibly as soon as Saturday, MLB.com confirms.

Our View: Prior continues to have problems with his shoulder, and we haven't seen him in the majors since 2006. He is still just 28 years old, but we don't imagine he'll ever work in a major league game again.
Mark Prior, P, San Diego PadresFriday 5/1, 10:43 AM CT
Mark Prior experienced soreness in his shoulder following a bullpen session Tuesday, according to MLB.com.

Our View: He is being shut down due to the setback, and it is uncertain when he will resume throwing. Prior has not pitched in the majors since 2006.
Mark Prior, P, San Diego PadresTuesday 1/13, 5:55 PM CT
Mark Prior has been re-signed by the Padres to a minor league deal and has been invited to spring training, according to MadFriars.com.

Our View: Prior hasn't pitched in the majors since 2006 and hasn't been effective in longer than that. At this point he can be avoided in any and all fantasy formats.
Mark Prior, P, San Diego PadresWednesday 10/22, 5:03 PM CT
MLB.com reports that Mark Prior has started playing catch, a little over four months after his last shoulder surgery.

Our View: Prior's agent has said that he would like to return to the Padres. It's hard to see Prior getting more than a minor league contract with his injury history. Prior has not appeared in a major league game since pitching for the Cubs in 2006.
Mark Prior, P, San Diego PadresTuesday 10/21, 6:29 PM CT
MLB.com reports that Mark Prior would be interested in returning to the Padres next season. He will file for free-agency after the World Series.

Our View: Prior didn't pitch last season for the Padres after signing with the team in December, a one-year deal with incentives that would have allowed him to make upwards of $4.5 million if healthy. Prior had surgery in June to fix a torn anterior capsule in his shoulder.
Mark Prior, P, San Diego PadresTuesday 10/21, 4:47 PM CT
Mark Prior has said that he will file for free-agency after the World Series, according to ESPNews.

Our View: Prior's career as a Padre will be over before it even began. The often injured starter has not pitched in a game since 2006 and never made an appearance as a Padre.
Mark Prior, P, San Diego PadresWednesday 6/4, 10:27 PM CT
San Diego RHP Mark Prior underwent surgery to repair damage in his right shoulder today, and doctors report the surgery went well, according to CBSSports.com.

Our View: While the operation will end his season, Prior's anterior capsule issues should be alleviated and now he looks towards the future.
Mark Prior, P, San Diego PadresSunday 6/1, 2:35 PM CT
Mark Prior will undergo season-ending right shoulder surgery this week, MLB.com reports. The anterior capsule of his joint needs to be repaired. Prior signed a one-year deal with the Padres in December.

Our View: We've lost count of how many operations Prior has had on his arm. He is still only 27, but we have to wonder if he'll ever be an effective major league pitcher again. It may be time to follow Kerry Wood's example and try out the bullpen.
Mark Prior, P, San Diego PadresFriday 5/16, 8:14 PM CT
Mark Prior has a tear in the capsule of his right shoulder, which is the shoulder he had surgery on in April of 2007, according to MLB.com. As previously reported, Prior had an examination and an MRI exam on his shoulder on Wednesday at the office of Dr. James Andrews in Birmingham, Alabama. Prior's agent John Boggs said, "It's a setback, but in terms of how big of a setback, we won't know until you know how Prior is feeling. We just hope it's not a major setback. Mark is looking at it in a positive way. He will just lay low for a few weeks and let the shoulder settle down."

Our View: The team initially hoped Prior would be able to return to the majors by June 1. This new setback will prevent him from throwing for at least two weeks.
Mark Prior, P, San Diego PadresThursday 5/15, 7:11 PM CT
Mark Prior is currently meeting with Dr. James Andrews to discuss his shoulder and the results of a recent MRI, according to MLB.com. "Prior is in Birmingham, as we speak," manager Bud Black said. "We'll know more probably over the weekend, or maybe early next week, about the plan for Mark as we move into the summer."

Our View: Prior appears to be a setback machine whose once luminous career is nothing more than a series of last gasp efforts to return to the mound. This latest setback would appear to signal that the earliest Prior could return to the mound would be June.
Mark Prior, P, San Diego PadresTuesday 5/13, 11:33 AM CT
Mark Prior had an MRI on his surgically repaired right shoulder on Monday, and could fly to Alabama to meet with Dr. James Andrews, according to the SD Union-Tribune. Prior has been experiencing discomfort in his surgically repaired right shoulder during his recent throwing sessions. Andrews performed the surgery on Prior last year.

Our View: This is not a good sign, but the results are yet to be revealed.
Mark Prior, P, San Diego PadresSaturday 5/10, 8:37 PM CT
The San Diego Padres report RHP Mark Prior has been experiencing discomfort in his surgically repaired right shoulder during today's throwing sessions, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Prior's return from shoulder surgery has been approached with extreme caution as the Padres continue to take it easy on his with stunted throwing sessions. He has spent most of his time in Arizona, but the team has not definitive timetable for his return. The team hopes to get him into a minor-league rehab assignment at some, but until the pain subsides, he will be slowly encouraged to take it easy.
Mark Prior, P, San Diego PadresThursday 4/24, 9:58 AM CT
Manager Bud Black commented that there is still no timetable set for Mark Prior's return, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. Prior recently experienced a setback with his surgically repaired right shoulder.

Our View: He is still a long way from returning to the Padres. He held a 1.69 WHIP over 43.2 innings pitched in 2006, and isn't worth waiting for.
Mark Prior, P, San Diego PadresTuesday 4/22, 3:28 PM CT
Mark Prior played catch on Monday in Arizona and came out of it fine, according to MLB.com. Prior will now be able to resume his normal throwing routine and should still be ready for a Minor League rehab stint sometime next month. He is on the 60-day DL recovering from a right shoulder strain.

Our View: He is still a long way from potentially pitching for the Padres, and his fantasy stock shall remain low.
Mark Prior, P, San Diego PadresSunday 4/20, 10:01 AM CT
Mark Prior is set to resume his rehab program on Monday after eight days without any baseball activity, according to the North County Times. He hasn't thrown since last Saturday, when the Padres shut down a batting practice session early due to stiffness in his right shoulder. It was notably the second time Prior had to cut a session short. He commented, "I don't think its anything that's alarming or major. We all didn't want it to happen, but we knew this could happen. Unfortunately, it came at a time where I was kind of getting close to where I could get out and start getting into some games. I feel good. It's not a situation where I'm aching and hurting day in and day out. It's just the life kind of came out of the ball. It wasn't coming out as clean as I'd like."

Our View: His fantasy stock shall remain low.
Mark Prior, P, San Diego PadresWednesday 4/9, 11:14 AM CT
Mark Prior threw a full batting practice session on Tuesday, according to the Union-Tribune. That was his first outing since the one six days earlier, which was notably cut short by shoulder tightness. Manager Black noted that Prior will likely pitch in a simulated game within two weeks.
Mark Prior, P, San Diego PadresSunday 4/6, 8:59 AM CT
Mark Prior is set to throw a bullpen session on Sunday, according to the North County Times. He notably had to cut short his Thursday session due to tighness in his right shoulder, and hopefully today's outing will be more favorable.
Mark Prior, P, San Diego PadresFriday 4/4, 9:16 AM CT
Mark Prior cut his throwing session short on Thursday due to tightness in his right shoulder. "This isn't a setback," pitching coach Darren Balsley tells the San Diego Union-Tribune. Prior will throw again in three days.
Mark Prior, P, San Diego PadresWednesday 4/2, 10:39 AM CT
Mark Prior pitched batting practice in Peoria on Tuesday, according to the North County Times. He is nursing a shoulder strain and isn't expected to return to the Padres until at least June.
Mark Prior, P, San Diego PadresFriday 3/28, 10:16 AM CT
Mark Prior faced batters Thursday for the first time since undergoing shoulder surgery April 24, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. "I am confident that I am going to get back and pitch in the big leagues effectively," he said. Prior, on the 60-day DL, is slated to toss two more batting practices and at least a couple of simulated games before advancing to taking part in five or more minor league games. We won't see him with the Padres until at least June.
Mark Prior, P, San Diego PadresWednesday 3/26, 11:08 PM CT
Mark Prior has been suffering with a right shoulder strain and has been placed on the 60-day DL, according to the Sports Network. He is recovering from off-season shoulder surgery and is not expected to pitch again until June at the earliest.
Mark Prior, P, San Diego PadresSunday 3/23, 9:27 AM CT
Mark Prior threw his curveball for the first time this spring during a 50-pitch bullpen session on Saturday, according to the North County Times. Pitching coach Darren Balsley mentioned that Prior will continue his every-fifth-day schedule, and may soon pitch to live hitters. Balsley also stated, "He had been just spinning ‘em before this, and now he snapped a couple off and it looked pretty good. He's right on track, he's throwing good." This is good news, but Prior's role with the team is yet to be known.
Mark Prior, P, San Diego PadresFriday 3/7, 10:44 PM CT
Mark Prior threw again on Friday, picking up the intensity on his pitch speed and count, which has now grown to about 50. "He's passing every test," skipper Bud Black told the team website. Prior is not expected to be on the active roster before May. What role he fills at that point is a complete mystery.
Mark Prior, P, San Diego PadresMonday 2/25, 10:05 AM CT
The San Diego Union-Tribune reports that Mark Prior will not pitch for the Padres before May, but after seeing two mound sessions of 25-30 reduced fastballs, skipper Bud Black likes what he has in the right-hander. “He's energized, he's optimistic,” Black said. “There's been no setbacks. The track going forward looks good." The Prior watch is picking up steam and while he may never be a viable option in fantasy, at least not until he marks out a more consistent track record, he is only 27-years-old and can't be completely counted out. No pitcher that throws half of their innings at PETCO should be counted as a fantasy non-factor until proven otherwise.
Mark Prior, P, San Diego PadresSaturday 2/16, 3:15 PM CT
Mark Prior threw 31 pitches off a mound on Saturday and tells MLB.com he "felt pretty comfortable and was able to focus on spots instead of mechanics and arm." Prior says he threw at anywhere between 60 and 75 percent. He missed the entire 2007 season due to April shoulder surgery and hopes to be ready in May.
Mark Prior, P, San Diego PadresFriday 2/8, 10:51 AM CT
Padres GM Kevin Towers said that favorable reports from Mark Prior's recent mound sessions led the GM to believe that the right-hander could complete a rehab assignment by early May. Towers said previously that Prior, who is coming back from shoulder surgery, wouldn't be available before June or perhaps July. "He's looking good," Towers told the San Diego Union-Tribune.
Mark Prior, P, San Diego PadresWednesday 12/26, 12:55 PM CT
Mark Prior has agreed to a deal with the Padres, according to ESPN.com. The deal is worth $1 million over one year, and incentives could push the contract past the $3 million mark. Prior has been throwing pain free after undergoing shoulder surgery in April. However, his status for the start of the 2008 season is still up in the air. Most likely, he'll begin the year on the DL. Prior missed the entire 2007 season and made just nine starts in 2006 so he's the ultimate injury risk. However, he's landed in a good situation in San Diego, so perhaps he can find a way to rekindle some of the magic he displayed early in his career.
Mark Prior, P, San Diego PadresTuesday 12/18, 11:19 AM CT
The Astros have made an offer to free agent Mark Prior. Prior, who missed the 2007 season while recovering from right shoulder surgery, became a free agent when the Cubs declined to tender him a contract by last Wednesday's deadline. "We've got an offer out to him at this point in time," GM Ed Wade said in the Houston Chronicle. "I got a sense that we're in the relatively early stages. Yeah, we got on board with that one." There are reportedly at least a dozen teams looking at the former phenom.
Mark Prior, P, San Diego PadresThursday 12/13, 10:32 AM CT
The Cubs have finally given up on Mark Prior. Prior was not offered a contract by the team Wednesday, making the former phenom a free agent. Prior is coming back from shoulder surgery and is a question mark for the beginning of next season. He shouldn't have trouble finding someone willing to take a chance on him.
Mark Prior, P, San Diego PadresWednesday 12/12, 11:22 AM CT
Mark Prior's agent, John Boggs, thinks there's a 50-50 chance that the Cubs will offer his client a contract before the 11 PM deadline tonight. Prior is arbitration eligible and the Cubs would have to pay him at least $3.3 million, but they could decide that the former No. 2 overall pick isn't worth it anymore and non-tender him, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. Prior is coming back from shoulder surgery and his status for the beginning of next season is up in the air.
Mark Prior, P, San Diego PadresTuesday 11/27, 11:38 AM CT
The Cubs have until December 12 to agree to terms with Mark Prior or decide whether to offer him arbitration or cut him. Prior made $3.575 million last year, and because teams are not allowed to cut the salaries of controlled players by more than 20 percent, he cannot be paid less than $2.86 million, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. Whether Prior ends up back in Chicago could depend on if he agrees to include an option year on a one-year contract to prevent the Cubs from paying him to regain form in 2008 only to get leveraged against his free agency the following year.
Mark Prior, P, San Diego PadresThursday 4/26, 7:09 AM CT
Because Mark Prior was on the minor league DL when he underwent season-ending shoulder surgery Tuesday, he will not accrue any major league service time in 2007, according to the Chicago Tribune. That means Prior won't be eligible for free agency until after 2009, even if he gets in a full 2008 season. However, the Cubs have the option of non-tendering him. The surgery should allow Prior to resume his career, regardless of whether it's with the Cubs. "It's certainly not career-ending," GM Jim Hendry said. "[Dr. James Andrews is] optimistic [Prior will] be able to pitch next year."
Mark Prior, P, San Diego PadresWednesday 4/25, 2:30 PM CT
Mark Prior underwent successful arthroscopic surgery on his right shoulder Tuesday, and he will not return for the 2007 season, according to Sports Network. The surgery repaired a debridement of Prior's right rotator cuff as well as repair of labral and capsular injuries in his shoulder. Prior began a rehab program in Birmingham on Wednesday overseen by Dr. James Andrews, who performed the surgery, and the Cubs medical staff and will continue his rehab program into the offseason.
Mark Prior, P, San Diego PadresTuesday 4/24, 9:02 PM CT
Mark Prior had exploratory arthroscopic surgery on his injured right shoulder Tuesday, and it was unclear how long the Cubs pitcher would be sidelined, according to the AP. The procedure was performed by Dr. James Andrews in Birmingham, Ala. Before the surgery, Cubs general manager Jim Hendry said he wasn't sure if Andrews would have to fix anything in Prior's shoulder.
Mark Prior, P, San Diego PadresMonday 4/23, 8:22 PM CT
Mark Prior has decided to undergo exploratory surgery on his ailing shoulder, according to the AP. Dr. James Andrews will perform the arthroscopic procedure on Tuesday and has been given permission for a more extensive operation if he determines it's necessary. "He's had some discomfort for a couple years," GM Jim Hendry said. "It's finally gotten to a point where it's probably the right decision to let one of the best people in the world go and have a look around to see if anything can maybe be fixed, if it doesn't need something major. Dr. Andrews has the clearance if something needs to be fixed or tightened up."
Mark Prior, P, San Diego PadresThursday 4/19, 6:29 AM CT
Mark Prior won't be able to get a second opinion from Dr. James Andrews until at least late next week due to scheduling conflicts, according to the Chicago Tribune. Prior is trying to decide whether to undergo surgery on his ailing shoulder.
Mark Prior, P, San Diego PadresSunday 4/15, 6:06 AM CT
Having been examined by Dr. Lewis Yocum, Mark Prior will seek a second opinion from Dr. James Andrews before deciding what course of action he'll take for his ailing shoulder, according to the Chicago Tribune. That means it likely will be a few more days before he makes a call on whether to have surgery.
Mark Prior, P, San Diego PadresSaturday 4/14, 6:19 AM CT
Mark Prior will be shut down until a new course of action is determined for his ailing shoulder, according to the Chicago Tribune. He was examined by surgeons yesterday, though no report was made available. "It's disappointing," manager Lou Piniella said. "We were hoping to get him on track. Hopefully it's not serious."
Mark Prior, P, San Diego PadresThursday 4/12, 4:51 PM CT
Mark Prior had to leave his rehab start Thursday due to shoulder discomfort, according to the SportsTicker. Prior completed the first two innings of an extended spring training outing before experiencing pain in the shoulder. The right-hander will visit orthopedic specialist Dr. Lewis Yocum for further evaluation.
Mark Prior, P, San Diego PadresMonday 4/9, 8:40 AM CT
Mark Prior is scheduled for a bullpen session Monday before getting his first extended spring training start later in the week, the Chicago Sun-Times reports. Despite insisting all spring he is healthy and experiencing no apparent setbacks, Prior (shoulder fatigue) has not pitched since March 28 in a major-league exhibition game.
Mark Prior, P, San Diego PadresThursday 4/5, 9:07 AM CT
The Iowa Cubs will place Mark Prior on the seven-day DL Thursday with what's being called "shoulder fatigue," according to the Chicago Tribune. The Cubs are saying that Prior isn't injured but simply not ready to pitch. "He has to be accounted for by Opening Day," general manager Jim Hendry said. "He has to be on their roster or on the DL." Prior is working at extended spring training and will stay there until the team feels he's ready to go five or six innings in a game.
Mark Prior, P, San Diego PadresTuesday 4/3, 8:43 AM CT
Mark Prior will stay in extended spring training for at least a week before joining Triple-A Iowa, according to the Chicago Tribune. Prior is trying to build up arm strength.
Mark Prior, P, San Diego PadresWednesday 3/28, 7:44 PM CT

Mark Prior, P, San Diego PadresSaturday 3/24, 6:51 AM CT
Mark Prior is expected to stay behind when camp breaks, according to the Daily Southtown. Prior believes he'll be ready for big league action when the season starts, but the Cubs continue to take things slowly with his troublesome shoulder.
Mark Prior, P, San Diego PadresThursday 3/22, 9:05 PM CT
Mark Prior had by far his best outing of the spring Thursday, giving up just one run on four hits and two walks while striking out three over four innings. "He threw the ball better, that's the most important thing. A really nice step forward for him," manager Lou Piniella said in the AP. "I think the idea of not rushing him, giving him time, it's the right tonic." Prior will probably have one more outing this spring before the Cubs decide what to do with him.
Mark Prior, P, San Diego PadresSaturday 3/17, 12:14 AM CT
Mark Prior pitched in a minor league game on Friday to work out some of his mechanical issues, according to the AP. He threw 4 1/3 scoreless innings, allowing one hit while walking two and striking out four. However, his fastball was only in the mid 80s, as opposed to the mid 90s that he used to throw. Prior is a longshot to make the Cubs rotation at this point, and he could begin the season in Triple-A.
Mark Prior, P, San Diego PadresThursday 3/15, 8:59 AM CT
It appears that Mark Prior is either going to begin the year at Triple-A or on the disabled list and an assignment of extended spring training, according to the Sun-Times. Prior has an 18.90 ERA this spring and will make his next appearance in a minor league intrasquad game. The battle for the No. 5 spot in the rotation appears to be down to Wade Miller and Angel Guzman.
Mark Prior, P, San Diego PadresMonday 3/12, 7:05 AM CT
After struggling in his past two Cactus League starts, Mark Prior will make his next appearance in a minor league intrasquad game, according to the Daily Southtown. Manger Lou Piniella said he wants Prior to work on locating his curveball and regaining confidence away from the scrutiny of fans and the press. If all goes well, he should make his next start in a Cactus League game. If not, he may be looking at working in relief when the season begins.
Mark Prior, P, San Diego PadresSaturday 3/10, 9:00 PM CT
Mark Prior had another rocky spring outing Saturday, allowing seven baserunners and four runs over two innings. Prior walked three, allowed one home run, and didn't have any strikeouts.
Mark Prior, P, San Diego PadresMonday 3/5, 3:58 PM CT
Mark Prior made his spring debut on Monday against the Mariners and allowed three runs in 1 1/3 innings of work. He was scheduled to pitch two innings but left after 40 pitches. It's uncertain when his next outing will be.
Mark Prior, P, San Diego PadresSunday 3/4, 7:55 AM CT
Mark Prior is slated to pitch Monday in his spring debut, according to the Chicago Tribune. The Cubs are taking things slowly with him this spring in the hope that he might actually be healthy for the long haul.
Mark Prior, P, San Diego PadresTuesday 2/27, 8:46 AM CT
After saying that Mark Prior wouldn't start the first five or six games of Cactus League action as a precaution, manager Lou Pinella has decided to give Prior the ball on March 5, the date of the team's fifth spring training game, according to the Chicago Tribune. Prior says he's completely healthy. "I don't know what everybody's been told," Prior said, "but right now I'm healthy, going at everything at full speed. I've done everything in camp that's been asked of me. Unless someone tells me to do something otherwise, I'll keep doing what I'm doing."
Mark Prior, P, San Diego PadresMonday 2/26, 8:57 AM CT
Describing the decision as a "precautionary" measure, Cubs manager Lou Piniella said that Mark Prior won't be in the rotation for their first week of Cactus League games, according to the Chicago Tribune. "We just want to make sure he really feels good, that he's ready," Piniella said. "There's no sense in rushing that situation. I would think by the following Wednesday or Thursday we'll get him into a ballgame."
Mark Prior, P, San Diego PadresFriday 2/23, 9:36 AM CT
Mark Prior was one of 14 Cubs pitchers who threw 25 pitches to hitters on Thursday, the team's official site reports. Since the right-hander didn't face hitters at all last spring, this was a big step. "I felt good out there," Prior said. "It's nice to have normal days."
Mark Prior, P, San Diego PadresSaturday 2/17, 8:37 AM CT
Cubs manager Lou Piniella said he wasn't sure what would happen to the loser of the battle between Mark Prior and Wade Miller for the fifth spot in the rotation, according to the Daily Southtown. "I don't know what will happen," Piniella said. "We'll figure it out. It could be a good situation for our baseball team because we would be awfully deep and awfully talented."
Mark Prior, P, San Diego PadresFriday 2/16, 10:35 AM CT
Mark Prior had his first throwing session of camp with no major issues Thursday, though it did take him more time to get loose than the others in his group, the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Mark Prior, P, San Diego PadresWednesday 1/31, 4:56 PM CT
The Cubs avoided arbitration with Mark Prior by signing him to a one-year deal on Wednesday, according to the AP. Prior will get $3,575,000 and would earn an additional $150,000 each for making 27 and 30 starts. "It's been a rough couple of years, but you know I'm looking forward to this year and try not to think about what's happened," Prior said during the Cubs' winter convention this month. "I can't change it, I can't change the reality of what it's been the last three years. I've had some unfortunate things, but I'm not making excuses. It hasn't been good."
Mark Prior, P, San Diego PadresTuesday 1/16, 8:04 PM CT
The Cubs offered Mark Prior $3.4 million in salary arbitration on Tuesday, according to the AP. Prior, who made $3.65 million during an injury-riddled season in which he went 1-6 with a 7.21 ERA in nine starts, is asking for $3,875,000.
Mark Prior, P, San Diego PadresWednesday 9/13, 8:39 AM CT
Mark Prior threw off flat ground on Tuesday for the first time since going on the disabled list on Aug. 11, according to the Daily Southtown. It is still unlikely that Prior, who is recovering from a shoulder problem, will pitch again this year.
Mark Prior, P, San Diego PadresSunday 9/3, 7:00 AM CT
Mark Prior had his troublesome shoulder examined yesterday, and Cubs trainer Mark O'Neal said he thinks Prior will be able to resume throwing again Sept. 12, according to the Daily Southtown. He still holds out hope of pitching for the Cubs again this season, though that appears unlikely.
Mark Prior, P, San Diego PadresSaturday 9/2, 7:23 AM CT
It's been three weeks since Mark Prior went on the disabled list with shoulder tendintis, and he's expected to be examined again soon, according to the Daily Southtown. "I haven't been assessed yet," he said. "I may get checked out (today). I think I'll be throwing in the near future. And I think I'll be on the mound eventually. I just have to wait and see what the doctor says. When I do start throwing, hopefully, I haven't lost a lot in three weeks. I'll have more information in the next few days." Still, it's unlikley he'll pitch for the Cubs again this season.
Mark Prior, P, San Diego PadresWednesday 8/23, 7:44 AM CT
Mark Prior will be re-examined in a week to determine the progress of his right shoulder tendinitis, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. It's highly unlikely that Prior will pitch again this season.
Mark Prior, P, San Diego PadresTuesday 8/15, 8:48 AM CT
Though it is still very likely that he could be out for the rest of the year, Mark Prior is still hoping to pitch again at some point in '06, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. "Obviously, when you do the math, from a practical standpoint it doesn't look too good," he said. "But I'm going to approach it like I can come back toward the end of the season. What the reality of that is, only time will tell, but I'm going to approach it that I have a chance to come back this season and pitch. Just because there's a time crunch -- there's just six or seven weeks left and it sounds like I might be out four or five weeks -- you just don't shut it down." Prior is out with shoulder tendinitis.
Mark Prior, P, San Diego PadresSunday 8/13, 10:23 AM CT
Mark Prior, who is on the disabled list with shoulder tendinitis, might not be out for the entire season, according to the Chicago Tribune. However, he will miss at least three weeks. Trainer Mark O'Neal said that after the initial three weeks, Prior will be evaluated on a weekly basis.
Mark Prior, P, San Diego PadresSaturday 8/12, 8:56 PM CT
The Cubs placed Mark Prior back on the disabled list on Saturday with shoulder tendinitis, according to the AP. The move means that he could be done for the season. "I'm more disappointed for [Prior]," manager Dusty Baker said. "It's been a tough couple of years here, on and off the DL. He's not very happy about it."
Mark Prior, P, San Diego PadresSaturday 8/12, 10:15 AM CT
Instead of flying with the team from Milwaukee to Denver, Mark Prior was sent to Chicago to have team physician Stephen Gryzlo examine his shoulder, according to the Chicago Tribune. "We'll see what comes of it," pitching coach Larry Rothschild said. "There were some pitches he threw [Thursday] that I didn't like the way he threw. We have to make sure of what's going on where he is and go from there." If Prior, who is scheduled to make his next start on Tuesday, is forced to go on the DL, the team may choose to shut him down for the year.
Mark Prior, P, San Diego PadresFriday 8/11, 8:38 AM CT
After Mark Prior had another bad outing yesterday, questions have come up again regarding his health, according to the Chicago Tribune. Prior may or may not make his next start, and if he has to go on the DL, the Cubs may just shut him down for the season. Despite the concerns, Prior says he's fine, so it isn't known whether the Cubs plan on even taking a look at his shoulder. Prior missed the first 2 1/2 months of the season because the shoulder was strained. "Whether there's still weakness [in the shoulder] and that's the reason he's under pitches at times … but there have been a lot of times when everything has been basically the same," Rothschild said. "The velocity has been good and he has been [throwing] downhill. It's hard to tell right now [if he's hurt]."
