Garrett Atkins, 3B, Colorado RockiesFriday 10/2, 12:17 PM CT
Garrett Atkins acknowledged that he will likely not be back with the Rockies next season, according to the Denver Post. "Obviously, I don't think I've got too many more games in a Rockies uniform," Atkins said. "I'm just trying to enjoy it with these guys. I'm glad to be a part of it today and help the team clinch. Hopefully we'll have a long stretch in October."

Our View: Atkins has been a regular for the Rockies up until this season, and he will welcome a new start elsewhere in 2010. If he can put together a nice performance or two in the postseason, he should get plenty of interest this winter.
Garrett Atkins, 3B, Colorado RockiesThursday 9/10, 5:19 PM CT
Garrett Atkins hit his ninth homer of the season and first since August 14th in a 5-1 win over the Reds on Thursday. The two-run shot came in the third inning off Kip Wells and was his only hit in four trips.

Our View: Atkins has been playing more due to Ian Stweart's injury, but hasn't really made the most of it. He's just 2-for-10 in his last three starts.
Garrett Atkins, 3B, Colorado RockiesSunday 8/16, 11:51 AM CT
The Denver Post is reporting that Rockies' third baseman Garrett Atkins will play more down the stretch. Manager Jim Tracy likes Atkins' bat in the lineup, and he like Atkins' experience over that of Ian Stweart.

Our View: Tracy seems convinced that Atkins can do good things when in the lineup, and he has come through a bit as of late. Atkins should be owned in NL-only leagues for the rest of the way, but he is still not a good mixed league candidate.
Garrett Atkins, 3B, Colorado RockiesTuesday 8/4, 10:01 PM CT
Garrett Atkins had a nice night for the Rockies on Tuesday, going 2-for-3 with a double, a home run, two runs scored, and four RBI in the 8-3 win. Atkins is now hitting .230 on the season.

Our View: Atkins has not found a way to break out of his season-long slump, but he is still capable of having big nights like this. Unfortunately, these nights have been few and far between, making Atkins a terrible fantasy play in nearly any format. There are better options out there, so no need to hold on hope that Atkins will finally break out.
Garrett Atkins, 3B, Colorado RockiesFriday 7/24, 11:19 PM CT
Garrett Atkins went 1-for-4 with a double, and recorded the Rockies' lone RBI in tonight's 3-1 loss to the Giants at Coors Field.

Our View: Atkins was productive tonight, but is only batting .214 with no homers and five RBI over 28 at-bats this month.
Garrett Atkins, 3B, Colorado RockiesThursday 7/9, 4:27 PM CT
The Reds have reportedly inquired about Rockies' third baseman Garrett Atkins, according to the Denver Post.

Our View: The Reds could use help at third base with Edwin Encarnacion fresh off the DL. Atkins is due around $3.4MM for the remainder of the season, and it is uncertain what players Colorado would ask for in a trade.
Garrett Atkins, 3B, Colorado RockiesWednesday 7/8, 6:06 PM CT
The Rockies and Red Sox have discussed a Garrett Atkins for Takashi Saito swap, according to Ken Rosenthal of FoxSports.com.

Our View: It's no secret that Atkins has become expendable to the Rockies and that the Red Sox could use a third baseman. The Sox also have a glut of valuable relievers, so Saito is expendable. Both sides are said to be exploring other options, but this deal could get more likely as the deadline approaches.
Garrett Atkins, 3B, Colorado RockiesWednesday 7/8, 2:34 PM CT
The Denver Post is reporting that the Boston Red Sox have called the Rockies to inquire about third baseman Garrett Atkins. The Red Sox may be in need of a third baseman if Mike Lowell's injury keeps him out for a significant amount of time.

Our View: Atkins has turned it on as of late, as he is hitting .306 since June 1. Depending on Lowell's health, Atkins could be a nice addition to the Sox. We will keep you updated on any developments in this situation.
Garrett Atkins, 3B, Colorado RockiesSaturday 6/27, 12:43 AM CT
Garrett Atkins enjoyed a solid night at the plate in Friday's 4-2 win at Oakland, as he went 3-for-4 with a pair of RBI. He hit a double and two singles.

Our View: Atkins has three hits and two RBI in each of his last two games. He is hitting .340 this month after holding an anemic .148 batting average in May.
Garrett Atkins, 3B, Colorado RockiesThursday 6/25, 12:50 AM CT
Garrett Atkins was productive in tonight's 11-3 loss at the Angels, as he went 3-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored.

Our View: Atkins ended a 10-game drought without a homer, and only had four RBI over 14 games in June heading into tonight's contest.
Garrett Atkins, 3B, Colorado RockiesTuesday 6/23, 11:23 AM CT
According to the Denver Post, the Rockies plan to give Garrett Atkins plenty of playing time on their road trip to showcase him to other teams who may be interested in a trade. Atkins has been replaced as the starting third baseman by Ian Stewart, but the team plans to DH him for a majority of the trip.

Our View: The Rockies are praying that Atkins can muster some offense during this trip, because if he struggles there is virtually no chance they will be able to move him. He is set to make $7 million this year, and no team will take on that kind of money for a guy hitting .207 unless he really wows them during these next two series.
Garrett Atkins, 3B, Colorado RockiesSaturday 6/6, 1:49 PM CT
According to the Denver Post, Garrett Atkins improved production at the plate lately can be attributed to new contact lenses.

Our View: Atkins is having a miserable season, but his new adjusted peepers may remedy that. He has been the subject of trade talks (the Cardinals have been most mentioned), but teams will likely wait on him to see if his bat has legitimately woken up.
Garrett Atkins, 3B, Colorado RockiesThursday 6/4, 10:20 PM CT
Garrett Atkins went 2-for-4 with two homers and three RBI in Thursday's 10-3 win at Houston.

Our View: Atkins only had three homers heading into tonight's game, and was in grave need of a solid outing. He ended a 33-game drought without a homer, and only hit .148 in the month of May.
Garrett Atkins, 3B, Colorado RockiesThursday 6/4, 9:53 AM CT
The Denver Post is reporting that the Rockies may send slumping Garrett Atkins to Triple-A. "There comes a point where we have to make a decision," said new Rockies' manager Jim Tracy. "We are to the third of June now, and we are talking about getting to the point of a couple of hundred at-bats. But you do get to the point where you have to step back and look at something and ask the question if it's going to happen or not."

Our View: The Rockies are in a tough place right now, because while sending Atkins down would probably be the best move, injuries may force them to keep him in the lineup. Atkins is hitting .188 on the year and he hasn't had a multihit game since April 27. Fantasy owners should be staying away from him in all leagues at this point.
Garrett Atkins, 3B, Colorado RockiesTuesday 5/26, 6:29 PM CT
According to the St. Louis Post Dispatch, the Rockies are contemplating a fire sale and Garrett Atkins may be a good fit for the Cardinals.

Our View: Atkins is slumping this season, but he's a better option than the career minor leaguers the Cardinals keep trotting out at third base. The Rockies are more or less giving up on their season already and Todd Helton and Brad Hawpe are also available for the right price.
Garrett Atkins, 3B, Colorado RockiesSaturday 5/16, 5:35 PM CT
Garrett Atkins is not in the Rockies' lineup on Saturday. He is being replaced by Ian Stewart at third base.

Our View: Atkins is just getting a day off, but with Stewart swinging a hot bat the Rockies are finding ways to get him in the lineup. Atkins should be back for the next game, so get him back in the lineup after today.
Garrett Atkins, 3B, Colorado RockiesWednesday 4/29, 12:47 PM CT
Garrett Atkins will have the day off on Wednesday. Ian Stewart will start at third base against the Padres, the Denver Post reports.

Our View: That's an FYI for fantasy owners with daily transactions. Atkins has not had a day off this season, and he is not injured.
Garrett Atkins, 3B, Colorado RockiesMonday 4/27, 11:30 PM CT
Garrett Atkins was 3-for-5 with two doubles, two RBI, and two runs scored in the Rockies 12-7 win over the Padres on Monday.

Our View: Atkins has struggled some to start the season, but he remains the No. 4 hitter in the Rockies order. With Dexter Fowler, Ryan Spilborghs, and Todd Helton hitting in front of him on most nights, he should be able to produce plenty of RBI this season. As usual, he figures to be a far better play in Colorado than on the road.
Garrett Atkins, 3B, Colorado RockiesMonday 4/13, 6:02 PM CT
Garrett Atkins had the one and only hit for the Rockies in their 4-0 loss to the Cubs on Monday. He is now hitting .179 on the season.

Our View: The Rockies struggled at the plate collectively, but Atkins did manage to break up Ted Lilly's bid for a no hitter with his single in the seventh. Atkins is off to a slow start average wise, but he does have two home runs and five RBI in the first seven games.
Garrett Atkins, 3B, Colorado RockiesFriday 4/10, 6:05 PM CT
Garrett Atkins was 2-for-5 with his first home run of the season in Friday's 10-3 win over the Phillies. The homer was a two-run shot.

Our View: Atkins failed to record a hit in the team's first three games this season, so it's nice to see him go yard. By his standards he had a down year in 2008 and will be looking to return to form this season. He's a safe fantasy play at third.
Garrett Atkins, 3B, Colorado RockiesMonday 3/30, 12:00 AM CT
Garrett Atkins was 3-for-4 with a pair of RBI and a run scored against the A's on Sunday.

Our View: Atkins has been recovering from groin and hip flexor strains, but he appeared fine on Sunday. Still, concerns surrounding his health may cause his value to drop just slightly across mixed leagues.
Garrett Atkins, 3B, Colorado RockiesThursday 3/26, 5:40 PM CT
According to MLB.com, Garrett Atkins may be able to play on Saturday against the Cubs. He has been suffering from groin and hip flexor strains.

Our View: Atkins has been taking it slow in his recovery process, but feels that he will be fully healthy and ready to play on Opening Day. Atkins is a strong contributor in four of five fantasy categories and is a strong option at third base. Feel free to draft him without too much concern over the injuries.
Garrett Atkins, 3B, Colorado RockiesTuesday 3/24, 9:43 AM CT
Garrett Atkins may miss opening day if he does not return to the diamond this week, according to the Denver Post. He is dealing with a groin injury.

Our View: Atkins can still be drafted as a No. 1 fantasy third baseman, but just be sure to add solid depth behind him.
Garrett Atkins, 3B, Colorado RockiesSaturday 3/21, 12:50 PM CT
Garrett Atkins remains on the shelf with a groin injury, and there is no timetable for his return, according to the Denver Post.

Our View: The Rockies still believe he will be ready for their season opener on April 6. He should be drafted as a No. 1 fantasy third baseman, but it is recommended to add solid insurance behind him.
Garrett Atkins, 3B, Colorado RockiesMonday 3/16, 8:17 PM CT
MLB.com reports that Garrett Atkins has a sore groin to go with his already injured hip flexor.

Our View: Atkins has been limited most of the spring by the injuries, which bother him more in the field than at plate. Atkins remains an excellent play at Coors Field, but his road numbers can be a bit worrisome. Make sure he's 100 percent before you invest in him at the draft table.
Garrett Atkins, 3B, Colorado RockiesFriday 3/13, 12:55 PM CT
The Denver Post reports that Garrett Atkins has reinjured the hip flexor that has kept him out of most of the spring season. The injury is not considered serious, but the Rockies want to proceed with caution and keep Atkins out of the lineup for the next few days.

Our View: Hopefully this doesn't turn into something serious. Atkins is a top-10 third baseman and has the luxury of playing half his games in Coors Field. A solid option, but wait to see if he's truly healthy.
Garrett Atkins, 3B, Colorado RockiesSunday 3/8, 2:05 PM CT
Garrett Atkins is returning to the diamond Sunday against the Padres following his bout with a hip flexor injury, according to the Denver Post.

Our View: If healthy, Atkins would be worth drafting as a top-10 fantasy third baseman.
Garrett Atkins, 3B, Colorado RockiesFriday 3/6, 12:30 PM CT
Garrett Atkins missed Thursday's game due to a hip flexor injury, according to the Denver Post. Atkins said, "It is not an issue hitting or even running the bases. But defense is something where you cannot control how you are going to react. I talked with the training staff. They said to take it easy. There is no reason to be a hero on March 5."

Our View: If healthy, Atkins would be worth drafting as a top-10 fantasy third baseman. We will keep you posted on his status.
Garrett Atkins, 3B, Colorado RockiesThursday 3/5, 2:59 PM CT
Peter Gammons of ESPN speculates that Garrett Atkins could be a possible target of the New York Yankess now that A-Rod is out until at least May and they are looking to replace his bat.

Our View: Atkins has enjoyed some fine seasons in Denver's thin air, but could suffer this year with the departure of slugger Matt Holliday. A move to New York and a spot in their devastating lineup could be just as good.
Garrett Atkins, 3B, Colorado RockiesTuesday 2/3, 4:24 PM CT
Garrett Atkins avoided arbitration by signing a one-year $7.05 million dollar deal with the Rockies, according to the Denver Post.

Our View: Atkins had a nice year in 2008 with a .286 average, 21 home runs, and 99 RBI. Atkins wanted a long-term deal but Colorado is still trying to determine their direction heading into the future.
Garrett Atkins, 3B, Colorado RockiesMonday 1/26, 6:34 PM CT
Garrett Atkins and the Rockies are keeping his arbitration date a secret in order to prevent arbiters from advance research, according to the Denver Post.

Our View: Atkins asked for $7.95 million while the Rockies offered $6.65 million. Atkins has a decent case with a .286 average, 21 home runs, and 99 RBI in 2008. It's highly unlikely that the Rockies will be able to sign him long-term if they're this worried about $1.3 million.
Garrett Atkins, 3B, Colorado RockiesMonday 1/19, 8:51 PM CT
MLB.com reports that an extension for third baseman Garrett Atkins is unlikely. He is in the second of three arbitration eligible years and will likely receive a one year deal.

Our View: There had been rumors that the Rockies may be shopping him this offseason, but it certainly looks as if he will be hitting 81 games in Coors Field next season. His home and road splits are drastic, so it's not unwise to pair an Atkins selection with a nice backup option at the position.
Garrett Atkins, 3B, Colorado RockiesThursday 12/11, 4:56 PM CT
The Phillies inquired about Garrett Atkins, but said that they had no interest in a deal that would call for them to deal top pitching prospect Carlos Carrasco, according to the Delaware News Journal.

Our View: The defending World Champs would like to improve their offense at the hot corner, but they obviously can win with Pedro Feliz so they don't have to make a deal for Atkins.
Garrett Atkins, 3B, Colorado RockiesTuesday 12/9, 3:24 PM CT
The Denver Post reports that a Rockies team official debunked the Garrett Atkins' trade rumor involving the Twins and Rays. The Rockies haven't spoken with teams about Atkins, and don't anticipate moving him.

Our View: If Todd Helton were to be deemed 100 percent for next season, a trade would seem more plausible, but right now the Rockies feel they may need Atkins to fill in at first base.
Garrett Atkins, 3B, Colorado RockiesSaturday 12/6, 12:21 PM CT
The Twins could renew their interest in Garrett Atkins after talks broke off with free agent Casey Blake, according to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune.

Our View: Atkins has two years remaining on his current contract with the Rockies, but would likely be too expensive for Colorado to re-sign, which is why they've looked to deal him earlier in this offseason.
Garrett Atkins, 3B, Colorado RockiesWednesday 12/3, 11:36 PM CT
Garrett Atkins' agent told MLB.com that Atkins would be willing to listen to a fresh offer for a contract extension on Wednesday.

Our View: This comes as no shock after it was reported on Wednesday morning that it was unlikely that Atkins would be moved this winter. The Rockies have him locked up for two more years, meaning they could move him at the trade deadline this year or next winter as well.
Garrett Atkins, 3B, Colorado RockiesThursday 11/13, 8:34 AM CT
There has been rampant speculation that the Rockies are attempting to trade third baseman Garrett Atkins, but that is not necessarily the case, according to the Denver Post. "There won't be an 'Atkins watch.' We are completely comfortable going into next year with him as a right-handed bat in the middle of our lineup," said team GM Dan O'Dowd.

Our View: O'Dowd did say that the team would still be listening to offers for Atkins, so the possibility him being traded remains realistic.
Garrett Atkins, 3B, Colorado RockiesSaturday 11/8, 9:13 AM CT
The Minnesota Twins are exploring trade possibilities, and the players they are interested in include Garrett Atkins, J.J. Hardy and Yunel Escobar, according to the Minneapolis Star Tribune.

Our View: Atkins has been shopped since the regular season ended, and the Twins make sense as they not only need a third baseman, but they need to add power to their lineup as well.
Garrett Atkins, 3B, Colorado RockiesFriday 10/24, 12:50 PM CT
Garrett Atkins will be shopped by the Colorado Rockies, according to the Rocky Mountain News. The Phillies are reportedly interested, as are the Twins and Angels.

Our View: The Angels certainly have the pitching depth to acquire Atkins, as the Rockies are looking for a number two or three starter. Atkins makes sense for all three teams, as the Phillies have offensive studs at every infield position besides third base and catcher, and the Twins and Angels both had difficulty scoring at points this season.
Garrett Atkins, 3B, Colorado RockiesSaturday 9/27, 12:20 AM CT
Garrett Atkins went 2-for-4 with an RBI in Friday's loss to Arizona. Both of his hits were singles.

Our View: He is now one RBI away from 100. He has registered an RBI in six of his last seven games, with 10 over the span.
Garrett Atkins, 3B, Colorado RockiesThursday 9/25, 8:46 AM CT
Garrett Atkins hit his 21st home run of the season on Wednesday as the Rockies beat the Giants 15-4. He was 2-for-6 with three RBI.

Our View: The day before, Atkins responded to rumors that he would be traded in the offseason in light of Ian Stewart's development. Atkins has benefitted from playing in Denver, but should be a satisfactory third baseman regardless of where he ends up.
Garrett Atkins, 3B, Colorado RockiesTuesday 9/23, 11:27 AM CT
Garrett Atkins could be dealt for pitching help in the off-season, according to the Rocky Mountain News. Atkins is aware of that possibility and stated, "I hope that's not the case because I love Denver and I love the guys in here and I think we got a good team going forward. I understand that it's a business and Ian Stewart's done a good job at third and they have Todd coming back and he's a Hall of Fame player. So there's only a certain amount of places where you can play."

Our View: Atkins only has 20 homers so far this season, but is only five RBI away from reaching 100 for the third straight season. He holds a career .299 batting average right now as well.
Garrett Atkins, 3B, Colorado RockiesSunday 9/21, 7:08 PM CT
Garrett Atkins had three hits including his 20th home run leading to three RBI to push his season total up to 95 in the Rockies 13-4 loss to the D'backs.

Our View: Atkins won't remotely approach his numbers the past two seasons (29 HR and 120 RBI followed by 25 HR and 111 RBI last year), but with five more RBI he will have a third straight 20-100 season. Those are the type of numbers that any third baseman not maned Alex Rodriguez or David Wright would be pretty happy with.
Garrett Atkins, 3B, Colorado RockiesTuesday 9/9, 9:25 PM CT
Garrett Atkins was 0-3 going into his at-bat in the ninth inning against the Braves but deposited his 19th home run over the wall to tie the game.

Our View: Atkins average is up to .290 and has hit 19 home runs on the year. Atkins
Garrett Atkins, 3B, Colorado RockiesSaturday 8/30, 12:31 AM CT
Garrett Atkins went 2-for-5 with five RBI in Friday's 9-4 win against the Padres at PETCO Park. Both of his hits were home runs.

Our View: He bounced back with a vengeance tonight, as he snapped a 16-game skid without a homer, and set a season-high with five RBI in a game.
Garrett Atkins, 3B, Colorado RockiesSunday 8/24, 1:22 PM CT
The prevailing thought that outfielder Matt Holliday will eventually be traded out of Colorado seems to be dying as moves to seek interest in Garrett Atkins are heating up, according to the Denver Post.

Our View: Atkins is expected to make around $8 million in arbitration next year, and with Ian Stewart developing at third and Todd Helton returning to first, Atkins becomes readily expendable. The Rockies need to trim salary somewhere and Atkins is making a big number and carries the upside that will bring strong prospects in return. The story quotes Troy E. Renck with the Denver Post who also notes the alarming lack of depth at third base in free agency, boosting Atkins' value. It would seem likely the agent for this rising corner infielder is likely to be working the phones now and will be given clearance to seek a deal once the season is over. We'll keep you posted.
Garrett Atkins, 3B, Colorado RockiesFriday 8/15, 8:29 PM CT
Garrett Atkins was back in the starting lineup Friday after missing three starts with strep throat.

Our View: Jeff Baker is back on the bench with Atkins' return.
Garrett Atkins, 3B, Colorado RockiesThursday 8/14, 12:42 PM CT
Garrett Atkins missed his second straight game Wednesday due to strep throat and his status for Thursday is uncertain, according to the Denver Post. He can barely swallow due to the ailment, but said, "I am going to try to play, but I still have to see how I feel and what the trainers think. I don't want to go backward as far as getting better or hurt myself because my body is weak."

Our View: His sickness comes at a terrible time. The Rockies are playing their most important series of the season against the division-leading Diamondbacks, and Atkins was hitting a team-best .444 on the homestand with seven RBI.
Garrett Atkins, 3B, Colorado RockiesWednesday 8/13, 6:52 PM CT
Garrett Atkins will miss his second game in as many nights tonight due to a case of strep throat, according to the Denver Post. It is probable that he will miss Thursday's game as well.

Our View: Atkins should be back and ready to go by the weekend, but for the time being, make your lineup adjustments as necessary.
Garrett Atkins, 3B, Colorado RockiesSaturday 8/9, 1:07 PM CT
Good news for fantasy owners of Rockies third sacker Garrett Atkins: he has consistently had big-time success against Padres hurler Greg Maddux in his career. Atkins is hitting .464 (13-for-28) with two home runs, a double and a triple off the future Hall of Famer.

Our View: Atkins is having a solid August, so look for that to continue in a place where Maddux has a 15.43 ERA this season.
Garrett Atkins, 3B, Colorado RockiesFriday 8/8, 11:41 PM CT
Garrett Atkins had three hits and knocked in three RBI for the Rockies on Friday.

Our View: Atkins has 16 home runs and 74 RBI on the year and is well on his way to his third straight season of 20 home runs and 100 RBI from the hot corner for the Rockies.
Garrett Atkins, 3B, Colorado RockiesWednesday 7/30, 7:24 PM CT
Garrett Atkins is tied for second in the NL with 25 RBI in the month of July during which time he is hitting .313, according to MLB.com. Atkins has also been deadly against right handed pitching this year with a .411 average, second to Albert Pujol's .444 mark.

Our View: Atkins is about as steady a run producer as you'll find, and his 338 RBI since the start of the 2005 season is the seventh best mark in baseball.
Garrett Atkins, 3B, Colorado RockiesSunday 7/27, 11:17 PM CT
Garrett Atkins extended his hitting streak to 10 games and ended a 13 game home run drought on Sunday against the Reds. He finished the game 2-for-3 with three RBI and a walk.

Our View: Like the rest of Colorado, Atkins is back to smashing the ball. He has been playing first base since veteran Todd Helton went down.
Garrett Atkins, 3B, Colorado RockiesFriday 7/25, 5:47 PM CT
Rockies third baseman Garrett Atkins is off the market and no longer someone the team is willing to ship away, according to Jayson Stark of ESPN.com.

Our View: This will be just fine with fantasy owners, as Atkins is hitting .346 at Coors Field but just .255 on the road.
Garrett Atkins, 3B, Colorado RockiesWednesday 7/9, 11:12 PM CT
The Rockies brought plenty of offense to the park this evening, pulling the 8-3 win over the Brewers. It was third baseman Garrett Atkins carrying the load, going 3-for-4 with two homers on the night, good for three RBIs and two runs scored.

Our View: Atkins is lighting the world on fire thus far in July, going 17-for-37 at the dish (.459) with four homers and 12 RBIs through nine games.
Garrett Atkins, 3B, Colorado RockiesFriday 7/4, 11:28 PM CT
Garrett Atkins went 5-for-6 with three RBI in Friday's 18-17 win over the Marlins. He hit a double, a two-run homer, and three singles.

Our View: Atkins has racked up 10 hits, two homers, and seven RBI over his last three games. He is off to a tremendous start in July.
Garrett Atkins, 3B, Colorado RockiesFriday 7/4, 10:57 AM CT
Garrett Atkins destroys left-handed pitching, and after his 2-for-3 night off Florida hurler Andrew Miller, his batting average against southpaws climbed to .470, according to the Denver Post.

Our View: Atkins has had a nice season, but fantasy owners would like to see a little bit more power out of him. Still, if you have him on your team and see he is facing a lefty, don't even think about sitting him, regardless of who else you have.
Garrett Atkins, 3B, Colorado RockiesWednesday 7/2, 10:48 PM CT
Colorado brought the offense to the park and got the 8-1 win over the Padres this evening, led by the stick of third baseman Garrett Atkins . Atkins went 3-for-4 at the plate with his 16th double and 11th home run of of the season, totaling four RBIs and one run scored.

Our View: Atkins has carried the power fantasy owners hoped to see this season, touting just two homers for 12 RBIs last month. He needs to get his bat going if the Rockies hope to improve and make some kind of effort for the division.
Garrett Atkins, 3B, Colorado RockiesSaturday 5/31, 1:50 PM CT
Colorado third baseman Garrett Atkins will be spending today on the bench rather than filling his normal duties at the bag, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Atkins has been suffering through a bit of a mini-slump, having led the team in hitting over the first month and a half of the season only to fall as a stiff neck and back spasms have set his balance off. Atkins is 1-for-18, going hitless in his last 16 at-bats, heading into today and thus will be resting as his Rockies face the Chicago Cubs.
Garrett Atkins, 3B, Colorado RockiesTuesday 5/27, 5:37 PM CT
Garrett Atkins is back in the lineup Tuesday after missing three games with a stiff neck.

Our View: With Atkins' return, Ian Stewart is staring at second base for the first time in his major league career.
Garrett Atkins, 3B, Colorado RockiesTuesday 5/27, 9:04 AM CT
Garrett Atkins did not start for the third straight game on Monday, but the Denver Post notes that he might be ready for tonight's game against the Phillies.

Our View: He is not expected to be placed on the DL due to his stiff neck, and it looks like he will be back soon, if not tonight.
Garrett Atkins, 3B, Colorado RockiesMonday 5/26, 10:07 PM CT
Garrett Atkins sat out his third straight game with a stiff neck, and the Philadelphia Phillies scored their most runs in nearly a decade recording a 20-5 rout over the Colorado Rockies on Monday night.

Our View: Atkins is not expected to be placed on the disabled list, but for now the team doesn't know when he will be able to return to the starting lineup.
Garrett Atkins, 3B, Colorado RockiesMonday 5/26, 8:51 AM CT
Garrett Atkins doesn't think he will land on the DL, but doesn't know how long it will be before he regains full motion in his neck, according to the Denver Post. Atkins said, "Of course I want to be out there, especially with Holliday being out now. We're going to need as many guys as we can get out there. It's frustrating that it all happened at the same time."

Our View: Atkins remains day-to-day. Ian Stewart replaced him at third base on Sunday. Atkins is a tough loss for fantasy owners, but at least it looks like he won't land on the DL.
Garrett Atkins, 3B, Colorado RockiesSaturday 5/24, 8:29 PM CT
Garrett Atkins was a late scratch from Saturday's lineup because of a stiff neck, according to the AP. Ian Stewart started at third in his place.

Our View: Consider Atkins day-to-day for the time being.
Garrett Atkins, 3B, Colorado RockiesMonday 5/19, 8:11 PM CT
Garrett Atkins was moved into the cleanup spot on Wednesday since the Rockies are facing a left-handed pitcher, according to the Denver Post. Todd Helton was dropped to fifth in the order with Ryan Spilborghs batting sixth in place of Brad Hawpe.

Our View: Atkins is hitting .500 in 24 AB against left handers so this move makes sense, as does the benching of Hawpe who is hitting just .200 with a .619 OPS in 25 AB against lefties.

Our View: Atkins is proving to everyone why he was undervalued heading into the season. He may not be the sexiest name out there, but there just aren't that many players who can hit .300 with 100 RBI are there?
