Joe Beimel, P, Colorado RockiesFriday 7/31, 2:31 PM CT
According to the Washington Post, the Rockies have acquired reliever Joe Beimel from the Nationals.

Our View: No word yet on who the Nats get in return, but the Rockies finally land a coveted reliever to add to their troublesome bullpen.
Joe Beimel, P, Colorado RockiesWednesday 5/6, 10:43 AM CT
Joe Beimel has been activated from the 15-day DL following his recovery from a strained hip flexor, according to TSN.

Our View: Beimel will be given a shot at the closer's role and the lefty is worth acquiring in NL-only leagues.
Joe Beimel, P, Colorado RockiesSaturday 5/2, 2:53 PM CT
Reliever Joe Beimel (hip) made a rehab start on Friday night, and he will work for High-A Potomac again on Sunday, the AP reports.

Our View: Beimel is eligible to return on Wednesday, and he is expected to come off the DL on that day and immediately enter the mix for saves.
Joe Beimel, P, Colorado RockiesThursday 4/30, 7:24 PM CT
MLB.com reports that Joe Beimel will begin his rehab assignment at Single-A on Friday. He is recovered from his left hip flexor strain and is set to be activated from the DL on Wednesday.

Our View: Beimel will likely get a chance to close once he does return, assuming Julian Tavarez and Kip Wells aren't dominating the role between now and next Wednesday. As a result, Beimel's value is on it's way up. Consider him a cheap source of saves.
Joe Beimel, P, Colorado RockiesTuesday 4/28, 2:35 PM CT
Joe Beimel (hip) could be given a chance to serve as the Nationals' closer when he returns from the DL next week. Joel Hanrahan has been yanked as their ninth-inning man after blowing three save opportunities.

Our View: Beimel was pitching well over 7.1 innings of work prior to landing on the DL, and is certainly worth picking up for NL-only leagues before the club gives him a shot to close.
Joe Beimel, P, Colorado RockiesTuesday 4/21, 2:34 PM CT
ESPN.com is reporting that the Washington Nationals have placed Joe Beimel on the 15-day DL with a hip injury. He will be replaced by Saul Rivera on the roster.

Our View: Beimel has been one of the few bright spots for the Nats so far this year, totaling 7.1 innings and allowing only one run and six hits. He had decent value as a set-up man, but with Washington hurting to win games his value has decreased.
Joe Beimel, P, Colorado RockiesWednesday 3/18, 3:33 PM CT
Joe Beimel has agreed to a one-year deal with the Nationals, according to the Associated Press. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Our View: Beimel will be used as a lefty specialist out of the Nationals' pen, and should only be targeted in NL-only leagues that feature middle men.
Joe Beimel, P, Colorado RockiesSaturday 3/14, 11:35 AM CT
Joe Beimel is nearing a decision regarding his contract offers, according to Buster Olney of ESPN.

Our View: Oakland and San Diego are contenders for the lefty reliever. The Dodgers were still interested in re-signing him last week, but feel his $2-3MM asking price is too high for a player that will only put down 1-2 hitters per outing.
Joe Beimel, P, Colorado RockiesMonday 3/9, 7:00 AM CT
The Dodgers still have interest in re-signing Joe Beimel if his asking price comes down, according to the LA Daily News.

Our View: He is still looking for a deal in the $2-3MM range, which the Dodgers feel is too high for a player that will only retire one or two hitters per appearance. The Dodgers would like to ink Will Ohman if his price comes down as well, if they don't retain Beimel.
Joe Beimel, P, Colorado RockiesFriday 3/6, 11:19 AM CT
Colorado offered Joe Beimel more than $1MM, but he passed, according to InsidetheRockies.com.

Our View: Beimel would be desirable to the Rockies, as he did not allow a homer over 49 innings with the Dodgers in 2008. Beimel may have passed as they have a crowded bullpen, with Huston Street, Manny Corpas and Alan Embree.
Joe Beimel, P, Colorado RockiesFriday 3/6, 8:05 AM CT
Joe Beimel is believed to be on the Athletics' radar, according to the SF Chronicle.

Our View: He is now an option after they missed out on Dennys Reyes. The A's are yet to have serious talks with Beimel's rep, though.
Joe Beimel, P, Colorado RockiesThursday 3/5, 9:09 AM CT
Support from within the St. Louis Cardinals' organization exists for the pursuit of free-agent reliever Joe Beimel, though GM John Mozeliak admits he has had no contact with agent Joe Sroba, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Our View: Beimel was outstanding a year ago, posting a 2.02 ERA, and would join fellow southpaw Trever Miller to provide the Cards with a nice one-two punch from the left side.
Joe Beimel, P, Colorado RockiesWednesday 2/25, 11:30 PM CT
Joe Beimel and Will Ohman, the two top lefties remaining in free agency may begin lowering their contract expectations, according to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports.

Our View: The lefties are having to deal with the poor economic conditions just like everyone else. The bigger deals apparently have all been signed already, other than Manny Ramirez. The remaining free agents are primarily just going to have to take one-year deals and hope for better luck next offseason.
Joe Beimel, P, Colorado RockiesFriday 2/20, 3:07 PM CT
It has been revealed that Joe Beimel turned down a minor league deal with the Rangers about a month ago, according to MLB.com.

Our View: The lefty reliever remains unsigned. It is uncertain if he remains on the Dodgers' radar after signing infielder Orlando Hudson.
Joe Beimel, P, Colorado RockiesWednesday 2/11, 3:16 PM CT
Ken Rosenthal of FoxSports.com reports that left-handed reliever Joe Beimel is on the Dodgers' radar.

Our View: Beimel had a good season in 2008 from an ERA standpoint, as it was just 2.02, but he isn't much of lefty specialist. For his career, lefties are hitting .266 with a .330 OBP against him.
Joe Beimel, P, Colorado RockiesTuesday 2/10, 7:00 AM CT
The Rockies are no longer interested in Joe Beimel, according to the Denver Post. GM Dan O'Dowd said, "It is highly unlikely that we would sign him. We've turned the page and moved on."

Our View: Beimel wanted to play for Colorado, and would have been a good fit as he did not allow a home run with Los Angeles in 2008. Lefties Alan Embree and Glendon Rusch look to see more innings of work with Beimel out of the mix.
Joe Beimel, P, Colorado RockiesThursday 2/5, 12:30 PM CT
Joe Beimel would still like to play for the Rockies even though his reps haven't been pleased with their offer, according to the Denver Post.

Our View: Beimel did not allow a home run over 49 innings of relief with the Dodgers last season, and would be a good fit for the Rockies, who play their home games at launching pad Coors Field.
Joe Beimel, P, Colorado RockiesWednesday 2/4, 8:04 PM CT
The Rockies are no longer pursuing Joe Beimel, according to the Denver Post.

Our View: Beimel isn't dropping his price, even though spring training is just over a week away for pitchers and catchers. Beimel was 5-1 with a 2.02 ERA for the Dodgers last year and would certainly improve most bullpens from the left side. He's typically a ground ball type pitcher, which can help teams out of jams late in games.
Joe Beimel, P, Colorado RockiesWednesday 1/28, 9:05 AM CT
The Rockies may reconsider Joe Beimel for the right price, according to the Denver Post.

Our View: The club already added lefty relievers Glendon Rusch and Alan Embree to their pen, but apparanently they are still looking to upgrade.
Joe Beimel, P, Colorado RockiesThursday 1/22, 7:05 AM CT
The Tigers are not believed to be garnering interest in reliever Joe Beimel, according to MLive.com.

Our View: The Tigers added lefty Fu-Te Ni from Taiwan and Juan Rincon, but their bullpen remains suspect. The club is still interested in improving in that area, but it does not look like Beimel will be coming to the Motor City.
Joe Beimel, P, Colorado RockiesMonday 12/29, 1:03 PM CT
Reliever Joe Beimel is still unsigned, according to MLB.com.

Our View: The Mets only have one lefty-reliever on their roster (Pedro Feliciano), but are looking for a bargain rather than pursue Beimel.
Joe Beimel, P, Colorado RockiesTuesday 12/9, 2:24 PM CT
MLB.com reports that the Tigers have had discussions with the agent for lefty reliever Joe Beimel at the Winter Meetings. No deal is imminent and it appears that Detroit will try to settle their closer situation before moving on to Beimel and the setup market.

Our View: The southpaw has been on nearly everybody's radar, including the Diamondbacks, Reds, and Cardinals. The bullpen was a disaster for Detroit last season.
Joe Beimel, P, Colorado RockiesMonday 12/8, 1:19 AM CT
The East Valley Tribune reports that the Diamondbacks are among those interested in left-handed specialist Joe Beimel.

Our View: Beimel went 5-1 with a 2.02 ERA in 49 innings of work last season.
Joe Beimel, P, Colorado RockiesSunday 12/7, 7:18 PM CT
The Denver Post reports that while the Rockies’ continue to talk with the agent for Joe Beimel the discussions aren’t progressing toward a deal. In fact, other teams are starting to pull away in the pursuit of the left-hander entering this week’s winter meetings in Las Vegas.

Our View: Neimel had some good numbers last season and looks to cash in on it. A number of left-handed relievers have already been signed, but there are still a lot of teams looking for a specialist.
Joe Beimel, P, Colorado RockiesThursday 12/4, 10:15 AM CT
The Rockies are raising their pursuit of reliever Joe Beimel, according to the Denver Post.

Our View: The Rockies currently do not have a lefty slated for the 2009 bullpen, which is why they covet Beimel. The Rockies also like the fact that he only allowed one homer over the last two seasons, which would make him an asset while pitching at launching pad Coors Field.
Joe Beimel, P, Colorado RockiesSunday 11/30, 1:35 PM CT
Acquiring free agent reliever Joe Beimel is believed to be a top priority for the Tigers, according to BaseballProspectus.com.

Our View: They will have to battle several teams to sign Beimel, who held a 2.02 ERA and 1.45 WHIP over 49 innings of relief with the Dodgers in 2008. He would be a solid addition to the Tigers' bullpen.
Joe Beimel, P, Colorado RockiesTuesday 11/25, 12:57 PM CT
Joe Beimel is on the Diamondbacks' radar, according to the Detroit Free Press.

Our View: The club will likely need to replace strikeout artist Juan Cruz in the bullpen, and Beimel is among their targets. Beimel is not in the same class as Cruz, as he only recorded 32 strikeouts over 49 innings with the Dodgers in 2008, with a barely passable 1.45 WHIP.
Joe Beimel, P, Colorado RockiesMonday 11/24, 11:07 AM CT
The Mets are yet to garner interest in reliever Joe Beimel, according to the NY Times.

Our View: The top relievers on the Mets' radar remains Francisco Rodriguez and Brian Fuentes. Beimel held a poor 1.45 WHIP over 49 innings of relief with the Dodgers in 2008.
Joe Beimel, P, Colorado RockiesWednesday 11/19, 2:33 PM CT
At least six MLB clubs are interested in free agent reliever Joe Beimel, according to the Hot Stove Blog on MLB.com. His agent (Joe Sroba) said, "Across the board, things are starting to pick up some. That's to be expected after the signings (namely Jeremy Affeldt and Damaso Marte)."

Our View: It is believed that the Tigers, Cardinals, Mets, and Rockies are among the interested clubs, but it remains unknown if any offered him a deal.
Joe Beimel, P, Colorado RockiesTuesday 11/18, 6:41 PM CT
The Tigers have shown interest in signing free-agent reliever Joe Beimel, according the Detroit Free-Press.

Our View: Beimel is a hot commodity this off-season. There are several teams interested. There is good reason for that too, he was 5-1 with an ERA of 2.02 in 71 appearances.
Joe Beimel, P, Colorado RockiesSaturday 11/15, 9:19 AM CT
Joe Beimel will likely be on the Cardinals' radar as they are looking to add quality lefty relievers to improve their bullpen, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports.

Our View: Beimel enjoyed a solid campaign for the AL West champion Dodgers in 2008, as he nailed down five wins, while maintaining a 2.02 ERA over 49 innings of relief.
Joe Beimel, P, Colorado RockiesTuesday 11/4, 9:55 AM CT
The Mets are reported to be interested in setup man Joe Beimel, according to Fox Sports.

Our View: Beimel was very effective for the Dodgers last year, posting a 5-1 record with a 2.02 ERA in 71 games. The Mets' bullpen will be a big focus for them this offseason as many collapses likely cost them a playoff spot last season. They are also interested in K-Rod, Brian Fuentes, and Kerry Wood to replace Bill Wagner in the closer role. Wagner had Tommy John surgery near the end of last season, and will most likely miss all of 2009.
Joe Beimel, P, Colorado RockiesSunday 4/27, 7:36 PM CT
Joe Beimel earned the win on Sunday against Colorado by working a scoreless 10th inning.

Our View: Beimel made it interesting by allowing two hits in the tenth before eventually getting Jeff Baker to pop out to first base.
Joe Beimel, P, Colorado RockiesSaturday 2/2, 8:06 AM CT
Joe Beimel and the Dodgers avoided arbitration by agreeing Friday to a one-year contract, according to the LA Times. He'll earn $1.925 million, tough he'll have various bonuses available for games pitched. He was the last Dodger up for arbitration, so the club has all their ducks in order heading towards spring training. Beimel posted a 3.88 ERA and 1.29 WHIP, while striking out 39 batters in 83 innings last season.
Joe Beimel, P, Colorado RockiesFriday 7/6, 11:09 AM CT

Joe Beimel, P, Colorado RockiesSunday 2/11, 9:44 AM CT

Joe Beimel, P, Colorado RockiesFriday 2/9, 8:59 AM CT
Joe Beimel and the Dodgers are headed for a salary-arbitration hearing on Friday despite a relatively small difference at stake, the team's official site reports. Beimel is seeking a salary of $1.25 million and the Dodgers have submitted a figure of $912,500.
Joe Beimel, P, Colorado RockiesWednesday 12/13, 10:32 AM CT
Joe Beimel was offered arbitration by the Dodgers before Tuesday night's deadline, according to the LA Times. The Dodgers plan to make a serious attempt to sign him to a contract and avoid going to arbitration.
Joe Beimel, P, Colorado RockiesFriday 10/6, 10:28 PM CT
Joe Beimel admitted Friday that he cut his hand in a bar, not his hotel room, according to the L.A. Times. Manager Grady Little said "It just adds to the disappointment we have. Everyone knows what's at stake at this time of year. It's all about personal responsibility. It's a situation where the individual showed very little. He's responsible for his own actions."
Joe Beimel, P, Colorado RockiesWednesday 10/4, 9:26 AM CT
Joe Beimel needed stitches to close a gash on his pitching hand, and his status for the first round of the playoffs is uncertain, according to the LA Times. He apparently sustained the injury when a glass slipped out of his hand and shattered.
