The Phillies have signed Brandon Duckworth to a minor league contract, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Our View: Duckworth was out of the majors last season, with his last appearance coming in 2008 with the Royals. He has some starting experience but will likely aim to make Philadelphia's roster as a middle reliever.

The AP reports the the Royals signed pitcher Brandon Duckworth on Monday and sent him outright to Triple-A Omaha on Monday.

Our View: Duckworth, 32, went 3-3 with a 4.50 ERA in seven starts with the Royals last season. In Omaha, he went 5-11 with a 4.75 ERA in 27 appearances. He does not figure to have any fantasy value going forward.

Brandon Duckworth pitched six solid innings allowing three runs to score, but he still lost as the Royals failed to produce any offense off of the White Sox.

Our View: Duckworth hasn't been awful his past three starts with a 1-1 record and a 3.71 ERA. He is nothing more than a stop gap measure as he has failed to make his mark at the major league level with a series of seasons spent in the majors and the minors.

The Royals will recall Brandon Duckworth from Triple-A Omaha to start on Sunday, according to the Kansas City Star.

Our View: Duckworth has a 5-11 record and 4.75 ERA in 27 games with Omaha. He's not worth a roster spot even in very deep leagues.

Brandon Duckworth is a top candidate for Sunday's start in the rotation (Luke Hochevar's slot), according to the KC Star. Employing Duckworth for Sunday would require the Royals to clear space on its 25-man and 40-man rosters. Kip Wells is the other option for Sunday.

Our View: Duckworth doesn't register many strikeouts and the Royals don't provide much run support, meaning he isn't worth fantasy consideration if called into action Sunday.

Brandon Duckworth should rejoin the Royals soon, possibly as part of their rotation. Duckworth, who is coming back from a strained rib cage, threw seven scoreless innings for Triple-A Omaha in his latest rehab start. "I felt very good," Duckworth said in the Kansas City Star. "I got on a good roll. I was in a good rhythm, throwing everything for strikes and staying in a pitcher's count. Anytime you do that, you have a good chance to be successful."

Brandon Duckworth appears to have nailed down a spot on the Royals opening day roster, according to the Kansas City Star. "Sitting here today, he’s not quite there yet," manager Buddy Bell said before Friday's 7-3 loss to the Seattle Mariners. "It's still the middle of March, but we’ve seen enough. We all want him on our club. That’s the best way of putting it." He'll likely work in middle relief this year, although he could eventually find his way into the rotation.
