Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxFriday 3/12, 4:27 PM CT
Jake Peavy suffered a bruised left shoulder when struck by a come-backer in today's game against the Angels, according to Joe Cowley's (Chicago Sun-Times) twitter page.

Our View: Peavy noted that he does not believe in ice, so it appears that the ace hurler will be fine.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxTuesday 2/16, 9:26 PM CT
Jake Peavy is aiming to stay healthy over the course of the 2010 campaign with the White Sox, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Our View: The former Cy Young winner was only able to make 16 total starts last season, due to a tendon strain in his right ankle and a right forearm bruise. He has been getting some guidance on conditioning, and believes he will be at full strength to make every start in 2010. This is encouraging news for Peavy, who went 3-0 with a 1.35 ERA over three starts with Chicago after being acquired from San Diego.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxFriday 10/2, 9:05 PM CT
Jake Peavy only surrendered two hits over eight scoreless innings in Friday's 8-0 win at rival Detroit. He had two walks with five strikeouts.

Our View: Peavy has earned a win in each of his three starts with the Sox this season, and did not allow any earned runs in each of his last two.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxTuesday 9/29, 5:11 PM CT
Jake Peavy's scheduled start for Wednesday has been pushed to Friday, according to Joe Christensen's (Star Tribune) twitter page.

Our View: Peavy will face the Tigers on Friday instead of the Twins tomorrow. The Sox are tinkering with their rotation following today's rain-out.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxFriday 9/25, 9:44 PM CT
Jake Peavy only issued six hits over seven scoreless innings in Friday's 2-0 win over the rival Tigers at U.S. Cellular Field. He had two walks and racked up eight strikeouts.

Our View: This was a strong performance from Peavy, and he improves to 2-0 over two starts with the Sox. He helped snap a four-game losing streak for Chicago.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxThursday 9/24, 2:45 PM CT
Jake Peavy will start for the White Sox against the Tigers on Friday, according to Scott Merkin of MLB.com.

Our View: It will be only his second start for the White Sox. In his American League debut against the Royals last Saturday, he allowed three runs in five innings while striking out five.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxSaturday 9/19, 9:28 PM CT
Jake Peavy wasn't especially sharp in his White Sox debut on Saturday, but he was good enough to get his first American League victory. The offense chipped in a bit as the Sox pounded the Royals 13-3.

Our View: Peavy lasted just five innings and allowed three runs on three hits and a pair of walks. He also served up a homer to Billy Butler, but he fanned five in the game and now has something to build on his next time out.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxSaturday 9/19, 5:22 PM CT
The Associated Press reports that elite starter Jake Peavy has been activated from the 15-day disabled list and will make his White Sox debut against the Royals on Saturday night.

Our View: Peavy has been on the DL since June 13th with a strained tendon in his right ankle. He hit a speed bump in his recovery when he was hit by a line drive on the elbow during a rehab start, but he's healthy and ready to go now. Before being dealt to Chicago at the trade deadline, he was 6-6 with a 3.97 ERA for an Diego.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxTuesday 9/15, 7:52 PM CT
Jake Peavy is slated to make his first start with the Sox Saturday against the Royals, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Our View: The elite hurler fared fine during his pen session over the weekend, and is looking forward to making his debut with Chicago. Peavy will be on a pitch-count in his favorable match-up with Kansas City.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxMonday 9/14, 10:18 AM CT
According to the Chicago Tribune, White Sox's starter Jake Peavy is looking to make his debut with the team this weekend against the Royals. Peavy is scheduled to throw another bullpen session either Tuesday or Wednesday, and if all goes well he could start two or three days after.

Our View: Peavy seems confident that he is healthy enough to pitch, and barring another setback he should be able to go this week. Don't expect him to get deep into games right away, but his stuff is good enough to help out a fantasy squad for the few starts he will be making.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxWednesday 9/9, 6:18 PM CT
Jake Peavy threw his scheduled pen session Wednesday, according to the Chicago Tribune. He worked out of the windup and stretch position, and also took breaks to simulate a game situation.

Our View: Peavy's status will be decided later in the week, and there is a very good chance he could make his first start for Chicago next week against Seattle at Safeco Field, if not earlier. Pitching coach Don Cooper noted that Peavy fared very well in today's session.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxTuesday 9/8, 9:55 PM CT
Jake Peavy is slated to throw his second bullpen session Wednesday, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Peavy could make his first start with Chicago next week if his session goes fine. He will talk to pitching coach Don Cooper through the week, to track how his ailing elbow is responding.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxSunday 9/6, 2:09 PM CT
Jake Peavy threw a 60-pitch bullpen session on Saturday, according to the Chicago Tribune. Peavy is hoping to make his first start as a member of the Sox in 10-12 days.

Our View: Peavy said he felt fine after the session, and barring any more setbacks he should pitch this season. The Sox are nearly out of the playoff hunt, altough they have been hot of late and could look to make a last second push in the Central.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxFriday 9/4, 11:13 AM CT
Jake Peavy plans to have an intense bullpen session at U.S. Cellular Field on Friday, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

Our View: The team just won't let Peavy's 2009 die, apparently. They are spinning this by saying it will give everyone "piece of mind" by finding out if he is finally healthy or not, but it still seems as if all involved parties would be best served by just shutting him down to ensure he's 100 percent for 2010.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxWednesday 9/2, 8:16 AM CT
The Chicago Tribune is reporting that there is a good chance the White Sox will decide to shut ailing pitcher Jake Peavy down for the rest of the season.

Our View: With the White Sox five games under .500 and seven games out of first place, coupled with the fact that the minor league season ends next Monday, it probably makes the most sense for the Sox to just shut their new ace down and make sure he is 100 percent for 2010. The team's Double-A affiliate Birmingham is expected to make the playoffs, meaning they will be playing beyond the minors' September 7th end date, but unless something changes drastically for the big club within the next week, don't expect them to trot Peavy out again.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxMonday 8/31, 9:57 AM CT
The Arlington Daily Herald is reporting that Jake Peavy will travel to Minnesota on Monday to be evaluated by White Sox's team doctors. Peavy was forced to leave his last rehab start in the fourth inning with elbow tightness.

Our View: This evaluation will probably decide whether Peavy will be able to pitch this season for the Sox. We should have more information on the results either later tonight or early tomorrow, so we will keep you updated.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxSunday 8/30, 12:32 AM CT
Jake Peavy was forced to leave his minor league rehab game with Triple-A Charlotte after just 3.1 innings on Saturday with elbow tightness, according to the Chicago Tribune's Mark Gonzales.

Our View: The injury is thankfully not pitching related, and is just soreness stemming from a line drive he took off the elbow last week. It is a setback nonetheless, however, and with the way the White Sox have been floundering lately, potentially season-ending news for the team's playoff hopes.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxThursday 8/27, 4:50 PM CT
Updating an earlier report, Jake Peavy will make his next start Saturday with Triple-A Charlotte, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Our View: Peavy's elbow felt fine during today's side session, but the Sox decided it was best for him to make a fourth rehab start in the minors prior to returning to the majors. The club is yet to name a starter for Saturday's game against the Yankees.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxThursday 8/27, 10:27 AM CT
ESPN Chicago reports that Jake Peavy will try to throw a side session on Thursday in Boston.

Our View: Depending on how Peavy looks, he may make another minor-league rehab start Sunday or Monday. The White Sox felt he needed at least one additional rehab outing before joining the team after he was hit on the elbow by a line drive in Monday's game with Charlotte. If his pitch count reaches 80-90 he could be activated in time to start against the Red Sox in the series at U.S. Cellular Field September 4th-7th.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxWednesday 8/26, 6:07 PM CT
Jake Peavy is unlikely to make his first start with the Sox Saturday, according to ESPN Chicago. Peavy was unable to throw his scheduled side session today due to lingering effects of being struck by a line drive in his rehab start on Monday.

Our View: Peavy is still getting treatment on his pitching arm, to relieve the swelling and soreness. Pitching coach Don Cooper hopes that the Sox do not throw Peavy into battle until his soreness subsides. Minor leaguers Carlos Torres or Dan Hudson are considered the top candidates to start Saturday's game.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxTuesday 8/25, 3:49 PM CT
According to USA Today's Bob Nightengale, if Jake Peavy (ankle) tosses a pain-free bullpen session on Wednesday, he will make his first start for the White Sox this weekend against the Yankees.

Our View: Which would put him a little ahead of schedule, since the team originally thought he would not be ready until early September. He has looked good in his rehab outings, while suffering no apparent setbacks, so the odds are good that he will pitch this weekend.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxMonday 8/24, 8:38 PM CT
Jake Peavy (strained ankle) hurled five scoreless innings in Monday's rehab start with Triple-A Charlotte, according to beat writer Scott Merkin's twitter page. He had three strikeouts with two walks, and 52 of his 80 pitches landed for strikes.

Our View: Tonight's outing was encouraging, and Peavy remains on target to make his first start with the White Sox in early September.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxFriday 8/21, 7:39 PM CT
MLB.com reports that Jake Peavy's rehab start for Triple-A Charlotte has been pushed back a day to Monday.

Our View: No worries here. Peavy's start was moved from Sunday just to give him an extra day of rest. He did experience some back tightness after his last start, but that is a typical side effect of an increased workload. He's still on schedule to return from the DL and make his White Sox debut in early September.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxWednesday 8/19, 12:57 PM CT
Jake Peavy (ankle) is expected to make two more minor league rehab starts before joining the White Sox rotation in early September, according to ESPN Chicago.

Our View: Peavy's first start is likely to come during the White Sox four game set with the Red Sox in Chicago between September fourth and seventh. Until then, be patient.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxTuesday 8/18, 11:08 PM CT
Jake Peavy gave up three earned runs and five hits over four innings in Tuesday's rehab start with Triple-A Charlotte. He did not have any walks with five strikeouts.

Our View: 44 of his 67 pitches landed for strikes. Peavy should make at least one more rehab appearance while building up his arm strength, and looks to be on target to make his first start with the Sox by the end of the month.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxFriday 8/14, 8:14 PM CT
Jake Peavy (strained ankle) will need at least two more minor league rehab starts prior to pitching for the Sox, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Our View: The elite hurler needs time to build up his arm strength following a seven-week layoff. There is belief he will make his debut with Chicago either August 28 against the Yankees or maybe September 3 at Wrigley Field against the cross-town rival Cubs.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxThursday 8/13, 11:54 PM CT
Jake Peavy fared well in his first rehab start with Triple-A Charlotte tonight, as he racked up four strikeouts with only one hit and one walk issued over three scoreless innings, according to MLB.com. He said, "I threw every pitch I had -- fastball, cutter, curveball, slider, changeup. The ball was coming out fairly good. I don't feel like I'm as strong as I'm gonna be."

Our View: Peavy will make his next rehab start on Tuesday. The elite hurler is projected to make his first start with the Sox when they start a three-game set against the Yankees on August 28 in New York.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxSaturday 8/8, 7:59 PM CT
The Associated Press reports that Jake Peavy is set to begin his rehab assignment.

Our View: Peavy threw off a mound on Saturday and his surgically repaired ankle felt good. He is set to make three rehab starts, but White Sox GM Kenny Williams thinks that he may be fine after just two. He could be making his Sox debut at the end of this month.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxThursday 8/6, 12:19 PM CT
According to ESPNChicago.com, Jake Peavy could be in line to make his White Sox debut on August 28th.

Our View: Peavy, just acquired at the trade deadline from San Diego, is slated to throw a side session on Saturday and would then follow that up with three minor-league rehab starts. If Peavy stays on schedule he could make his debut August 28th or September 2nd, or 3rd. He has been on the DL with a strained tendon in his right ankle since June 13th.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxMonday 8/3, 9:02 AM CT
The Chicago Tribune is reporting that new White Sox' hurler Jake Peavy threw 50 pitches in a bullpen session on Sunday morning and pronounced himself pain-free. Peavy is hoping to return to the mound by the end of August.

Our View: Manager Ozzie Guillen sounded very encouraged about Peavy's bullpen session, and the team believes he will be ready to go before the end of the month. Peavy will need at least three weeks to get his stamina back, but the fact that he is pitching pain-free is a good sign for anyone holding out hope that he can contribute to a fantasy playoff run. We will keep you updated on his status going forward.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxFriday 7/31, 3:47 PM CT
Updating a previous report, Jake Peavy has actually approved the trade to the White Sox the second time around, according to Bob Nightengale at USA Today. The Padres will receive Clayton Richard, Adam Russell, Dexter Carter and Aaron Poreda in return.

Our View: This seems strange considering that Peavy wanted to stay in the NL, remain on the West Coast, pitch for a contender and be in a pitcher friendly ballpark. Now he's headed to an AL club in the Midwest, that is 2.5 games out of first and he'll be starting in a park that surrenders home runs like it's going out of style. He must really be done with San Diego. On the money end of it, Peavy is owed $56MM through 2012, or $74MM through 2013 if the Sox exercise his option. Assuming he makes a full recovery and pitches again this season his fantasy value will take a slight hit, taking the mound at US Cellular.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxFriday 7/31, 3:32 PM CT
Jon Heyman of SI.com Tweets that Jake Peavy has been (once again) dealt to the White Sox for a package of minor leaguers.

Our View: Here we go again. Why the White Sox would trade for Peavy again after he already vetoed a trade there is a mystery. There is also the fact that Peavy is currently on the DL with a torn tendon in his ankle. The deal is apparently official, but Peavy would once again have to waive his no trade clause. We can't see him changing his tune when his reasons for blocking the trade the first time haven't changed. This looks like wishful thinking by the White Sox.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxThursday 7/16, 9:20 PM CT
Only one day after Padres GM Kevin Towers said that he could be out for the rest of the season, Jake Peavy was given a clean bill of health on his right ankle on Thursday, and could begin a rehab assignment in the very near future, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Peavy played catch on Thursday, but there is still no timetable for when he might return. Mid-August seems like the best bet. If someone dropped him in a panic yesterday, scoop him up as soon as possible.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxWednesday 7/15, 11:29 PM CT
Padres' GM Kevin Towers noted that Jake Peavy could be done for the remainder of the season, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. Towers said, "I think it's 50-50 if Jake will pitch again this season."

Our View: Peavy has been slowly recovering from a strained tendon his right ankle. The Padres will know more regarding Peavy's return after his cast comes off, and Towers said he would much rather have the ace hurler ready for 2010 rather than risk a more serious injury by letting him come back too soon.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxThursday 7/9, 9:28 AM CT
MLB.com is reporting that Padres' ace Jake Peavy is still two weeks away from having his protective boot removed and being reexamined. Peavy isn't expected to be available to return before late August or early September.

Our View: The healing process is moving along slowly for Peavy, but he remains on track tp return sometime in August. Fantasy owners should keep him on the roster, as he should be able to help your team out at some point this season.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxTuesday 6/30, 7:09 PM CT
Jake Peavy's return to the Padres has been delayed as he is once again sporting a protective boot on his ailing right ankle following a re-examination, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.

Our View: The ace hurler is now expected to be on the shelf for at least 5-6 more weeks. Peavy is not going to return to San Diego until mid-August, and shall remain patiently stashed on fantasy rosters.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxMonday 6/29, 10:09 AM CT
Jake Peavy is hoping to begin a rehab assignment for his injured right ankle in three weeks, according to MLB.com.

Our View: The Padres have pretty much faded from the 2009 playoff race already, and the most they could gain from a speedy Peavy return would be a deadline deal shipping him and his large salary out. More likely is that their ace returns sometime in August and they shape him up and audition him for a potential offseason trade.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxTuesday 6/16, 2:31 PM CT
SI.com is reporting that season-ending surgery is still a possibility for Padres' starter Jake Peavy. Peavy and the Padres' medical staff will do everything in their power to rehab the injury without surgery, but the possibility still exists that it could be necessary if the ankle does not properly heal.

Our View: It is too early to tell right now, but the fact that surgery is even being mentioned can't be a good sign for Peavy. If he can avoid it, he will, but stay tuned in the coming weeks for more news on his progress.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxSaturday 6/13, 7:01 PM CT
Jake Peavy has been placed on the 15-day DL with a partially torn tendon in his right ankle, according to TSN. The club recalled pitcher Joe Thatcher from Triple-A Portland as the adjoining move.

Our View: There is belief that Peavy could be on the shelf for as long as 12 weeks. He shall remain patiently stashed on fantasy rosters.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxFriday 6/12, 8:22 PM CT
Updating an earlier report, the Associated Press confirms that Jake Peavy will be on the shelf for at least a month due to his ailing ankle.

Our View: Peavy was scratched from Saturday's start against the Angels after an MRI revealed that the tibialis tendon behind his right ankle has a tear. He will sport a walking boot for around four weeks, and will be re-evaluated in two weeks before a timetable for his return can be determined.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxFriday 6/12, 6:01 PM CT
Jake Peavy will reportedly miss at least a month and his ailing right ankle is in a cast, according to Corey Brock's (of MLB.com) twitter page.

Our View: We will get further confirmation on Peavy's status. Stay tuned for updates regarding the Padres' ace hurler.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxMonday 6/8, 11:51 PM CT
Jake Peavy allowed three runs (two earned) on seven hits over seven innings in Monday's 6-3 win over Arizona at Petco Park. He issued two walks and racked up eight strikeouts.

Our View: It was a good outing for the Padres' ace hurler, and he evened his season record to 6-6. Four of his wins were recorded at home.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxFriday 6/5, 11:10 PM CT
Jake Peavy is slated to make his next start Monday against the Diamondbacks after only lasting one inning in his last outing due to a respiratory infection, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.

Our View: He was initially scheduled to pitch Sunday, but he is still not 100 percent, and the Padres are being cautious with their ace hurler.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxThursday 6/4, 8:58 AM CT
Jake Peavy is still not 100 percent in his recovery from the flu, and the Padres' starter may be forced to miss his next start, according to the San Diego Union Tribune. Peavy's next scheduled start is Sunday at home against Arizona.

Our View: It is still pretty early to make a decision on Peavy for Sunday, but apparently he is still very sick. We will have a better idea on his condition as Sunday approaches, but it seems very possible that Peavy could be unavailable for that game. We will update his condition as the weekend progresses, so stay tuned for news on his status.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxTuesday 6/2, 10:05 PM CT
Jake Peavy exited Tuesday's start with the flu after just one inning of work, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: This marks the shortest outing of his career. Josh Geer replaced him on the hill. Peavy should be recovered in time for his next start.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxTuesday 6/2, 10:46 AM CT
Padres ace Jake Peavy will not discuss with Philadelphia reporters whether he would approve a trade to the Phillies or not until after his Tuesday night start at Petco Park, according to the Philadelphia Daily News.

Our View: While there is a better chance Peavy would approve a trade to Philadelphia than the White Sox, it is still unlikely. It is no secret that he prefers a trade to a team in "middle America," and along with Citizens Bank Park being very hitter friendly, Philadelphia is certainly not middle America. For now, just keep assuming Peavy is a Padre for the foreseeable future.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxSunday 5/31, 9:19 PM CT
San Diego manager Bud Black has stated that Jake Peavy (ankle) will make his scheduled start on Tuesday against Philadelphia, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: Peavy wasn't his sharpest in his last start, giving up four runs off eight hits to Arizona, though he still remains a must-start as long as his coaching staff thinks he's healthy enough to take the mound.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxSaturday 5/30, 9:55 AM CT
The San Diego Tribune-Review reports that Jake Peavy is receiving a lot of treatment in an effort to limit the tendinitis in his ankle. He does not expect to miss a start.

Our View: He was touched for eight hits and four runs over 6.1 innings in his last start, after which he first made the ailment public. Hopefully the injury is taken care of and it does not affect his performances going forward. However, tendinitis tends to be an injury that lingers without extended time off.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxThursday 5/28, 12:42 PM CT
Jake Peavy indicated that he was dealing with ankle tendinitis during Wednesday's start against Arizona when he allowed four runs on eight hits over 6.1 innings, according to MLB.com.

Our View: He is not concerned with the ailment, and the Padres' ace hurler expects to make his next scheduled start against the Phillies next week.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxWednesday 5/27, 11:51 PM CT
Jake Peavy was not sharp on Wednesday, but he managed to pick up the win. He allowed four runs on eight hits and a walk over 6.1 innings and struck out five in an 8-5 win over Arizona.

Our View: This season the Padres' ace has not been vintage Peavy, but he's still been good. His ERA is at a respectable 3.67 and he's 5-5 on the year, but fantasy owners were expecting much more when they spent a high pick on Peavy.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxSaturday 5/23, 12:11 AM CT
Jake Peavy struck out 10 Cubs in six shutout innings of work as the Padres prevailed 4-0 on Friday. He allowed only two hits, but walked four batters while improving to 4-5.

Our View: Peavy has not been at his best this season, but he is still very, very good. He ranks first in the NL with 79 strikeouts. While he has allowed three or more runs in six of his 10 starts, he has only done so once in his last five.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxThursday 5/21, 7:08 PM CT
According to the Chicago Sun Times, Jake Peavy has officially used his no-trade clause to block a deal to the White Sox.

Our View: Peavy had concerns about playing for Ozzie Guillen, moving to a homer-friendly park and leaving the NL, so this news is not surprising. He's is still vocal about leaving San Diego though, so don't be surprised if more rumors start swelling involving other possible suitors.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxThursday 5/21, 2:29 PM CT
Jake Peavy is reportedly leaning toward using his no-trade clause to block a deal to the White Sox, according to BaseballProspectus.com.

Our View: Peavy is believed to have concerns about playing for the volatile Ozzie Guillen in Chicago, and called former teammate Scott Linebrink to ask about the skipper. Peavy also wants to remain in the NL. Peavy was on the wish list of the cross-town rival Cubs in the offseason.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxThursday 5/21, 9:33 AM CT
The Padres have reportedly agreed to trade Jake Peavy to the White Sox, according to Jon Heyman of Sports Illustrated.

Our View: The deal hinges on Peavy's approval, as he has a no-trade clause in his contract. It is known that he prefers to stay in the NL. He may not want to play his home games at launching pad U.S. Cellular Field either.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxThursday 5/21, 6:59 AM CT
The White Sox reportedly inquired about Padres' pitcher Jake Peavy, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.

Our View: Manager Bud Black met with Peavy, but the elite hurler noted that he still wishes to remain in the National League. Peavy may not want to play for sometimes volatile manager Ozzie Guillen as well.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxWednesday 5/20, 2:06 PM CT
Jake Peavy declined after the Padres offered him extra rest after throwing a complete game against the Reds in his last outing, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. Peavy said, "That is why we get paid; I want to be out there as much as possible. I can see maybe later in the year if you are tired, but I feel like I'm in as good of shape as I've ever been."

Our View: Peavy remains scheduled to face the Cubs this weekend at Petco Park. He is 3-5 so far, with a 3.82 ERA.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxSunday 5/17, 8:53 PM CT
Jake Peavy allowed just one run in his complete game effort as the Padres defeated the Reds 3-1 on Sunday. He allowed just four hits, walked none, and struck out eight in the effort.

Our View: The Padres had used every reliever in their bullpen on Saturday, so Peavy picked a great time for his first complete game of 2009. He needed 122 pitches to pull off the feat. He has allowed just six earned runs in his last four starts and has lowered his ERA from 5.75 to 3.82 in the process. His April struggles appear to be behind him.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxWednesday 5/6, 11:58 PM CT
Jake Peavy struck out 12 hitters in seven innings of work as the Padres fell 3-1 on Wednesday. He gave up four hits, three walks, and two runs while falling to 2-4 on the season.

Our View: In his last two starts, Peavy has struck out 20 hitters in 15 innings and allowed just two earned runs. He has an 0-1 record to show for it. It looks like another hard luck season for Peavy as the Padres offense continues to flounder.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxSunday 4/26, 8:09 PM CT
Jake Peavy struggled on the mound again Sunday. He allowed five runs on six hits and four walks over just five innings. He was dealt his third loss of the year as the Padres fell to the surprising Pirates 8-3.

Our View: This is not the Jake Peavy we know and love. He struggled with his command on Sunday and has been knocked around in nearly every start this season. His best outing so far: 8.1 innings, seven hits, three earned runs. Very un-Peavy.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxWednesday 4/22, 12:42 AM CT
Jake Peavy allowed six earned runs in six innings as the Padres fell to the Giants 8-3 on Tuesday. The Padres ace gave up seven hits and three walks while striking out three batters.

Our View: Through four appearances, Peavy has yet to give up less than three runs in a start. Still even in those other starts he was posting a solid strikeout rate. The slow start could be attributed to his participation in the World Baseball Classic, or perhaps the trade rumors that followed him throughout the offseason. Regardless, he has not looked like his usual self in 2009.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxThursday 4/16, 10:23 PM CT
Jake Peavy was able to muster a win despite a relative off day against the Mets on Thursday, giving up three runs off six hits and four walks while striking out five in five innings of work.

Our View: Though the ERA has been a bit above what you'd like to see from an ace like Peavy, he's still struck out over one batter per inning and has looked just fine through his first three starts this season.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxSunday 4/12, 8:26 AM CT
The Brewers could make a move for Jake Peavy this season, according to Paul Sullivan of the Chicago Tribune.

Our View: The Brewers reeled in CC Sabathia last season, and would likely love to sign Peavy, who the division rival Cubs are interested in. This is merely speculation as of now.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxSaturday 4/11, 11:53 PM CT
Jake Peavy pitched into the ninth inning and got the win as the Padres double the Giants 6-3 on Saturday. Peavy struck out ten and allowed three runs on seven hits in 8.1 innings.

Our View: Peavy had his game face on in this one, and while the three runs aren't what owners were looking for, the ten Ks are quite alright.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxMonday 4/6, 9:12 PM CT
Jake Peavy struck out eight batters in seven innings while seven hits, two walks, and three earned runs as the Padres fell to the Dodgers 4-1 on Monday.

Our View: Peavy was only 10-11 a year ago and he figures to pick up a few more hard luck losses this season. His peripherals will still look pretty good, but unfortunately they don't figure to be properly reflected in the win column.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxMonday 4/6, 9:17 AM CT
GM Kevin Towers is hopeful that the Padres will contend this season and trading Jake Peavy will not come up, but the club may still be weak and the ace hurler's name could come up again at the trade deadline, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.

Our View: He accounts for close to 30 percent of the Padres' payroll, and the Dodgers and Cubs are known to interest both the Padres and Peavy. As for now, Peavy is set to start tonight's season opener at home against the Dodgers.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxWednesday 4/1, 7:59 PM CT
Jake Peavy tossed five shutout innings and only allowed four hits on Wednesday. He struck out three and won his third game of the spring.

Our View: Peavy impressed again and has yet to allow a run with the Padres this spring. He must have gotten all his bad outings out of his system in the WBC. Expect big things from his this season.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxFriday 3/27, 11:57 PM CT
Jake Peavy threw six shutout innings on Friday against the A's. He allowed only two hits, did not walk a man and struck out seven.

Our View: Peavy was brilliant in his first start since rejoining the Padres. Consider him a top-tier fantasy starter. He may not get too many wins on the Padres, but that K-rate is sick good.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxWednesday 3/25, 8:15 AM CT
GM Doug Melvin killed the rumor that the Brewers are interested in acquiring Jake Peavy from San Diego, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. Melvin simply stated, "We have not talked to them. There is nothing to it."

Our View: Peavy's no-trade clause includes the Brewers, and we figured this was just a rumor.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxTuesday 3/24, 11:49 PM CT
Rumors have been spreading about the Brewers being interested in Padres ace Jake Peavy, but those thoughts were erased on Tuesday. "We haven't talked to them," general manager Bob Melvin tells the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. "There's nothing to it."

Our View: The Brewers need the pitching and have the prospects to entice the Padres, but Peavy's no-trade clause includes a move to Milwaukee. We don't see this happening.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxSaturday 3/14, 10:27 PM CT
Jake Peavy was hit hard by Puerto Rico in Team USA's 11-1 loss on Saturday. The starter lasted just two innings, gave up six hits, walked two, and allowed six earned runs.

Our View: Peavy has been a disappointment to this point in the WBC as he boasts a rotund 14.40 ERA. He managed to throw 29 of 54 pitches for strikes, which is a far worse ratio than we are used to seeing.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxThursday 3/12, 10:47 AM CT
According to the Chicago Tribune, the sale of the San Diego Padres to Jeffrey Moorad could get in the way of a possible Jake Peavy trade to the Cubs. It is reported that Moorad may not have his finances together to get the deal done.

Our View: Peavy has repeatedly expressed his interest to pitch for a contender, and thinks the Cubs would be a good fit. If this deal ever does go through, his fantasy value would certainly rise as he could pile up wins with the loaded Cubs' lineup protecting him.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxSunday 3/1, 11:46 PM CT
Jake Peavy earned the win in Sunday's Cactus League game against the Cubs, allowing just one hit in three innings.

Our View: The Cubs got to see first hand on Sunday what they could've added to their rotation with a trade for Peavy. A deal could still go down for him this year, especially at the deadline. Stay tuned.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxWednesday 1/28, 5:24 PM CT
ESPN.com reports that the Cubs and Padres could resume Jake Peavy trade talks at some point soon. The report suggests that the three young pitchers they acquired from the Indians in return for Mark DeRosa and Wednesday's acquisition of Aaron Heilman put the Cubs in better place to put together a satisfactory offer for Peavy.

Our View: The Peavy trade talks were among the hottest topics of the Winter Meetings, and it appears the rumors will begin swirling again soon. Peavy is among the most dominant pitchers in the game. Over 1,261 innings thrown in his career, he has an impressive 3.25 ERA to go with 1,256 strikeouts.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxFriday 1/23, 11:46 AM CT
Cubs general manager Jim Hendry is expected to approach the new owners about about increasing the payroll. His goal is to make a trade for Jake Peavy, the Daily Herald reports.

Our View: The Cubs recently traded away one potential piece of a Peavy package in outfielder Felix Pie, but they could still put together a package involving top prospect Josh Vitters. At this point, the Peavy talks have fluctuated so much that it almost seems pointless to talk about it until a deal is actually done.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxMonday 1/12, 7:20 AM CT
Right-handed ace Jake Peavy was among the list of 22 MLB players who have expressed interest in playing in this spring's World Baseball Classic, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: The big question remains as to what major-league team Peavy will be playing for when the WBC kicks off on Mar. 5. At this late stage of free agency, by default, the Chicago Cubs would have to be named the leading candidate to acquire the services of the 2007 Cy Young Award winner. The club announced Friday it would expand its payroll in order to reel in more talent, possibly Peavy.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxFriday 1/9, 7:11 PM CT
The Daily Herald reports that a new Cubs' owner may increase their available payroll for 2009, which would allow them to get back involved in Jake Peavy trade talks.

Our View: The report is clearly speculation at this point, but it seems a new owner would certainly like to end Chicago's "curse" as soon as possible. The addition of Peavy would make the Cubs a devastating force in the National League.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxFriday 1/9, 1:03 PM CT
Jake Peavy will represent the United States in the upcoming World Baseball Classic, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Peavy pitched for Team USA in the 2006 tournament, and enjoyed the experience as a highlight of his career.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxWednesday 1/7, 10:08 AM CT
The Chicago Sun-Times reports that sources close to the Cubs expect GM Jim Hendry to revisit Jake Peavy talks now that the Cubs have shed some salary with the Jason Marquis trade to Colorado.

Our View: Hendry noted that he is looking for another starting pitcher prior to opening day. As other options, the Sun-Times suggests Braden Looper and Tim Redding would fit better financially for Chicago than Derek Lowe.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxFriday 1/2, 9:56 AM CT
With the Cubs trades of Jason Marquis and Mark DeRosa, there has been speculation that they will get back into the thick of talks for Jake Peavy, but Buster Olney of ESPN.com reports that is not likely to happen.

Our View: The Cubs have cleared money by moving Marquis and DeRosa, but it is rumored the money was cleared for them to acquire Milton Bradley, not Peavy.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxWednesday 12/31, 6:52 PM CT
The Cubs are still an unlikely destination for Jake Peavy according to Padres GM Kevin Towers, Yahoo Sports reports.

Our View: Peavy still needs to be moved by the Padres as they attempt to shed payroll and rebuild. If the club holds onto him to start the season, he could get hurt early in the year and drastically drop his trade value, which could devastate the Padres as a franchise.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxTuesday 12/23, 8:53 AM CT
The LA Times believes the Angels will make another attempt to land Jake Peavy from San Diego.

Our View: The Angels cannot afford to trade away young hurlers Ervin Santana, Joe Saunders or Jered Weaver, so their chances of reaching a deal for Peavy appear to be low.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxThursday 12/18, 9:44 AM CT
The Boston Globe reports that the Red Sox have some interest in Jake Peavy but have not entertained trade talks to this point.

Our View: Boston was not among the places that Peavy had orignally requested, but he will have to expand that list if he hopes to leave San Diego. The Red Sox have a lot of young talented pitching that would surely interest the Padres.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxTuesday 12/16, 9:23 AM CT
Padres' CEO Sandy Alderson stated that Jake Peavy will likely be with San Diego on opening day, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. Alderson said, "We said from the very beginning in connection with both of those possibilities that we would not make a trade unless it made baseball sense. We are no longer actively pursuing any trade for Jake, which is not to say someone won't approach us."

Our View: The Cubs and Braves were the top contenders to acquire Peavy, but neither club could offer a package that satisfied the Padres.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxThursday 12/11, 1:25 PM CT
The Cubs will not be getting Jake Peavy, but the Angels may still have a shot, according to the Hot Stove Blog on MLB.com.

Our View: A deal is viewed as a longshot, but the Angels and Padres will continue to discuss players to see if they can agree to a favorable trade for both sides. The Padres are believed to be interested in infielder Brandon Wood and pitchers Nick Adenhart and Kevin Jepsen.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxThursday 12/11, 12:29 PM CT
Padres' GM Kevin Towers stated that any proposed deal to send Jake Peavy to Chicago is now dead, according to the Hot Stove Blog on MLB.com. Towers said, "It doesn't look like anything is going to happen with the Cubs. GM Jim Hendry pulled out of the deal. He said he's got other things going on. I respect his position."

Our View: Towers noted that one option is pulling Peavy off the trading block and heading into the 2009 season with him at the front of the Padres' rotation. It is unclear why Hendry killed the deal.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxWednesday 12/10, 8:44 PM CT
MLB.com reports that Padres GM Kevin Towers has gone as far to tell reporters that he will know one way or the other by then if a Jake Peavy deal is to be had. "We had more dialog today than any other day," Towers said of his talks with Cubs GM Jim Hendry. "We'll know tomorrow [Thursday]. Before we check out of this hotel ... we'll know if we have a deal. This has been the entire focus of baseball ops [operations]."

Our View: There have been dozens of rumors surrounding this possible trade scenario and everyone would like to see these discussions conclude one way or another soon. Hopefully, tomorrow bears some fruit.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxWednesday 12/10, 4:06 PM CT
Jake Peavy is more interested in waiving his no-trade clause for the Yankees now that they have added CC Sabathia, according to signonsandiego.com. Still, he prefers to stay in the National League and New York isn't his first choice geographically.

Our View: With CC in NY, there would be another big arm to take some of the pressure off of Peavy. The Yankees and Padres had held some preliminary discussions earlier in the offseason and those could be revisited if talks with the Cubs collapse.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxTuesday 12/9, 7:38 PM CT
Padres GM Kevin Towers said on Tuesday that a deal to send Jake Peavy to the Cubs looks, "more likely today than it did yesterday", according to MLB.com.

Our View: This deal has been building steam all offseason, so it would probably be a bigger surprise now if it didn't happen.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxTuesday 12/9, 12:17 PM CT
Updating a previous report, Fox Sports is now saying that the Cubs maintain that they are "not even close" to a trade for Padres right-hander Jake Peavy. No deal for Peavy can be completed until the Cubs' new owner is identified; the new owner would need to approve the addition of the four years and $63 million remaining on the pitcher's contract.

Our View: The Cubs' would like to acquire a left-handed hitting outfielder first and foremost and would have to find a landing spot for Jason Marquis if they hoped to acquire Peavy.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxTuesday 12/9, 10:48 AM CT
The Chicago Tribune reports that the Jake Peavy-Cubs trade talks have reached a point where it will be a stunner if the Cubs don’t acquire Peavy by the end of the week. GM Kevin Towers told reporters on Monday that making a Peavy trade was his full focus at the winter meetings. He then went out and proved it by working to facilitate a potentially four-team trade that would send Mark DeRosa to Philadelphia and Felix Pie to Baltimore and bring back pitchers Garrett Olson, J.A. Happ and Sean Marshall for the Padres. The key for that deal to work is for the Phillies or Orioles to take Jason Marquis, with the Cubs agreeing to eat some of his salary.

Our View: Should Peavy join Carlos Zambrano, Ryan Dempster, Ted Lilly and Rich Harden in Chicago, we could see a 110-win team in the NL Central next season. However, finding someone to take on Marquis is no small task.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxMonday 12/8, 10:06 PM CT
The Padres and Cubs are closing in on a deal that could involve four teams, with the others being the Phillies and Orioles, MLB.com reports.

Our View: The deal is not finalized by any means, so there are still details to be worked out, but things are certainly heating up.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxMonday 12/8, 6:39 PM CT
The Phillies have emerged as a possible third team in the Jake Peavy-to-Chicago rumors, according to Ken Rosenthal of FoxSports.com.

Our View: The Cubs have become really the only team active in the Peavy rumors, but need another team to satisfy San Diego's demands for young talent.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxSunday 12/7, 10:49 PM CT
Baseball Prospectus reports that the Rays are rumored to be the third team involved in talks regarding Jake Peavy. The Cubs need a second team to get involved with the Padres if they are to land the ace.

Our View: The rumor has veteran Brian Giles coming to the Rays from the Padres to play right field. The San Diego native has a no-trade clause but he may elect to play for a contender rather than the lowly Padres next season.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxSunday 12/7, 1:11 PM CT
According to Jon Heyman of SI.com, the Padres chances of trading Jake Peavy to the Cubs has become slim.

Our View: For whatever reason, the deal just does not seem to be working out. It's entirely possible Peavy starts the year with San Diego if no trade partner can be found.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxSunday 12/7, 7:52 AM CT
The Milwaukee Brewers may be a candidate to trade for San Diego's Jake Peavy, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View: Milwaukee will lose both Ben Sheets and CC Sabathia to free agency, and they need starting pitching, so they could be a match.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxMonday 12/1, 11:33 AM CT
The Cubs remain in the hunt to land Padres' ace hurler Jake Peavy, according to MLBTradeRumors.com. Padres' GM Kevin Towers said, "I would say the Cubs are still in it. Lou Piniella said they’re not in it, but their general manager (Jim Hendry) says they’re in it. The Dodgers have bigger fish to fry. That’s not to say they might not circle back later in the winter. Our primary goal is to trade Peavy."

Our View: The Cubs hope to hold onto Mike Fontenot and Sean Marshall, which is part of the reason they are looking for a third team to involve in a trade for Peavy. A Cubs' source noted a two-year window for the club to win a title, and acquiring Peavy would be a major step in the right direction to achieve that goal.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxSaturday 11/29, 8:14 PM CT
The third team in the Cubs and Padres trade centered around Jake Peavy could be the Orioles, according to the Baltimore Sun.

Our View: If this deal were to occur, the Orioles would receive Cubs' outfielder Felix Pie. Peavy's stats could suffer a bit as Wrigley Field is more of a hitters' park than the Padres' Petco Park, but would more than likely benefit from playing for a stronger team like the Cubs.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxThursday 11/27, 7:11 AM CT
Padres GM Kevin Towers has reportedly identified a third team that would allow the Padres to send Jake Peavy to the Cubs, according to Yahoo Sports. The Cubs would likely send Josh Vitters to San Diego or the third team as their centerpiece in the deal. Towers said that he planned to speak with Cubs GM Jim Hendry after Thanksgiving. Towers declined to name the third team that could be involved in the deal.

Our View: The Cubs don't have the stud pitching prospect that the Padres have been looking for to replace Peavy once they deal him. The fact that Towers has found another team could mean that things move very quickly in the coming weeks. Peavy's motion also affects the free agent market for top-tier pitchers such as C.C. Sabathia, A.J. Burnett, and Derek Lowe. The Cubs have already re-signed Ryan Dempster, so adding Peavy would be more of a bonus acquisition than the team filling an actual need.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxSunday 11/23, 12:41 PM CT
The Angels may pursue elite hurler Jake Peavy if Mark Teixeira turns down their upcoming proposal, according to MLB.com.

Our View: The Yankees are expected to aggressively pursue Teixeira if they only acquire one of CC Sabathia, A.J. Burnett, or Derek Lowe. The Angels will likely be a top contender again in 2009, but Peavy prefers the National League and it remains to be seen if he would waive his no-trade clause to join the Angels.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxSunday 11/23, 11:14 AM CT
There is belief that the Dodgers may target Jake Peavy after Chad Billingsley broke his leg while slipping on ice, according to the LA Times.

Our View: This is purely speculation by the LA Times, and the Dodgers previously lost interest in pursuing Peavy when Padres' GM Kevin Towers was asking for a package including Billingsley.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxThursday 11/20, 9:19 AM CT
The Cubs' talks for Jake Peavy have ended due to budget limitations, but GM Jim Hendry said he is still interested in the ace hurler, according to the Hot Stove Blog on MLB.com.

Our View: Peavy will make $11 million in 2009 and is owed $63 million over the remainder of his contract. The Cubs state they would need to be very creative with their finances and get another club involved to swing a deal for Peavy.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxWednesday 11/19, 10:15 PM CT
Chicago Cubs have ended trade talks with the San Diego Padres for Jake Peavy, according to the Cubs official web site.

Our View: First the Braves and now it looks like the Cubs are out of the Peavy race. Since the Cubs signed Ryan Dempster that pretty much took them out of the race for the starter.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxWednesday 11/19, 11:18 AM CT
Jake Peavy's agent (Barry Axelrod) noted that there are probably six or eight more MLB clubs he and his client would be willing to look at as potential landing spots, according to the North County Times.

Our View: That is beyond Peavy's initial five preferred destinations. The Yankees could be among the new clubs being considered.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxWednesday 11/19, 8:56 AM CT
The Padres told the Yankees a trade for Jake Peavy is possible, even without Phil Hughes part of the package, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports.

Our View: Peavy would have to waive his no-trade clause to play for New York. The other likely landing spots for Peavy remain the Cubs and Braves.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxTuesday 11/18, 3:51 PM CT
Jake Peavy could still land in Atlanta, according to MLB.com. Padres' GM Kevin Towers is considering revisiting a deal with the Braves and said, "You never know, we certainly made more progress with them. We were able to ID and agree upon a large part of the package."

Our View: Towers noted that the Padres must receive major league-ready pitching as part of a deal for Peavy. Towers feels that the Cubs, who he was solely focusing on regarding a deal for Peavy, may turn their attention away from pitching after re-signing Ryan Dempster today.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxMonday 11/17, 10:44 PM CT
The San Diego Tribune reports that Padres' GM Kevin Towers is currently only talking a Jake Peavy trade with the Chicago Cubs. “It's really come down to one club now – the Cubs,” he said. “It's going to take awhile."

Our View: Cubs starter Ryan Dempster is currently a free agent and should Peavy land in Chicago, Dempster's chances of returning figure to dwindle dramatically.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxSaturday 11/15, 1:30 PM CT
Braves' GM Frank Wren reiterated that Atlanta has ended their proposal for ace hurler Jake Peavy, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Wren said, "We reached the point where we made the decision that we just didn’t feel like there was a deal that we could feel comfortable with. Peavy is obviously a quality top-of-the-rotation pitcher. But our focus is still to build our organization internally with our young players, and we had to measure at what point we’d lose the ability to have a sustainable winning franchise going forward if we gave up too much talent. What we would be willing to do, and if that were not sufficient enough to get a deal done, that we were going to go ahead and move on to other pursuits and other opportunities."

Our View: The Padres' asking price was too steep and the Braves did not want to compromise their future by unloading several of their top prospects for one player. It is unknown exactly which players were asked for by San Diego, but pitcher Tommy Hanson and outfielder Jason Heyward were believed to be mentioned. The Braves were more willing to part with shortstop Yunel Escobar, pitchers Blaine Boyer and Charlie Morton, and minor-league outfielder Gorkys Hernandez.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxSaturday 11/15, 9:06 AM CT
Yankees' GM Brian Cashman discussed Jake Peavy with Padres' GM Kevin Towers earlier this month, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports. Towers told Cashman, "Right now, I need to stay focused with National League clubs. If I'm not able to get close with any of them, I'll circle back to you."

Our View: The Yankees remain interested in Peavy, despite literally targeting just about every major free agent pitcher on the market. Peavy has a no-trade clause and prefers the NL, but may be talked into playing for the Yankees, who look to be a top contender again after all of the smoke clears in free agency.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxSaturday 11/15, 7:14 AM CT
The Padres have noted that they may need to expand their search for a destination for ace hurler Jake Peavy, according to Sports Illustrated.

Our View: The Braves, Cubs, and Dodgers are the top three landing spots for Peavy as of now, but the Yankees and Angels are viewed as destinations Peavy may approve.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxFriday 11/14, 4:59 PM CT
Jake Peavy won't be heading to Atlanta, according to Fox Sports. "We have moved on," Braves general manager Frank Wren told FOXSports.com on Friday. "We had our last discussion with San Diego yesterday and let them know that if the final names we were discussing wouldn't get it done, we would move on to other opportunities, other possibilities."

Our View: This leaves the Cubs as the best potential suitor for Peavy, and Chicago reportedly needs to find a third team in order to make the deal work.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxThursday 11/13, 10:40 PM CT
The Padres haven't been able to find a suitable deal for Jake Peavy from his preferred list of teams, and may have to look elsewhere for a deal, according to the San Diego Tribune.

Our View: Peavy does have to approve any trade due to his full no-trade clause. He has expressed a preference for the National League and it is unlikely that he will change his mind with the leverage that he has over the situation.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxThursday 11/13, 1:15 PM CT
Reports that Jake Peavy was on the verge of being traded to Atlanta are inaccurate, according to Ken Rosenthal of FoxSports.com.

Our View: Sooner or later, Peavy will get traded, and until then rumors from sources all over the place will fly.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxThursday 11/13, 10:56 AM CT
The Chicago Cubs are not serious players for San Diego pitcher Jake Peavy, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. "I think it's only talk," said Cubs manager Lou Piniella.

Our View: It seems that the only serious pursuers of Peavy at this point are the Atlanta Braves, who are thought to be offering a four-player package.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxThursday 11/13, 12:30 AM CT
CBS Sports is reporting that the Atlanta Braves are offering a four-player package for starter Jake Peavy. San Diego is expected to request that Peavy waive his no-trade clause very soon so the deal can be completed. Under terms of the deal discussed by the Braves and Padres, San Diego would receive shortstop Yunel Escobar, Single-A outfielder Gorkys Hernandez, one of two starting pitchers - Charlie Morton or Jo-Jo Reyes - and either reliever Blaine Boyer or one of two minor-league left-handers (one of which is believed to be Jeff Locke). Again, Peavy must ok the move, and some believe he would rather play in Chicago for the Cubs.

Our View: The Braves have been pressuring the Padres for an answer by Friday, when the free agent market opens, because they need at least two starters - and they want to know whether Peavy will be a Brave before they dive in. They are expected to pursue A.J. Burnett, Ryan Dempster and others. Peavy, 27, won the NL Cy Young award following the 2007 season in a unanimous vote. Though a strained elbow shelved him for part of 2008, he still compiled a 2.85 ERA in 27 starts, finishing 10-11 for a Padres club that lost 99 games. He has compiled ERAs of 2.88 or lower in four of the past five seasons.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxTuesday 11/11, 9:35 PM CT
Multiple major league sources have said that the Braves' offer for Jake Peavy is more significant than anything the Cubs could offer, according to MLB.com. Atlanta is reportedly willing to give up shortstop Yunel Escobar and one of their highly rated center field prospects, (Gorkys Hernandez or Jordan Shafer) as well as a young pitcher, which may or may not be either Charlie Morton or JoJo Reyes. The Padres have inquired about Jeff Locke, but it's unlikely the Braves would give him up in addition to the other players they've already agreed to include in any deal.

Our View: The Cubs are reportedly willing to give up Felix Pie, Sean Marshall and Ronny Cedeno, which, as the report indicates, doesn't contain nearly as much value. Peavy is surely to be dealt soon, and Atlanta appears to be the clear front runners to land him.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxTuesday 11/11, 9:12 AM CT
The Braves are reportedly frustrated with trade talks for Padres' ace hurler Jake Peavy, and are expected to pursue other options when free agency opens Friday, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports.

Our View: If the Braves are out of the running for Peavy, then only two clubs remain in the race for him, being the Cubs and Dodgers.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxSunday 11/9, 7:59 AM CT
Jake Peavy will be heading to one of three destinations, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. Only the Braves, Cubs, and Dodgers remain in the race, which has eliminated the Cardinals, Astros, Yankees, and Angels.

Our View: The Braves still have the best available prospects to bring in Peavy, it's just a question of who they're actually willing to trade.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxSaturday 11/8, 1:34 PM CT
Pitcher Jake Peavy probably won't be going to the Houston Astros, owner Drayton McLane said. The team was put off by the list of players San Diego asked for, which McLane called a "wild combination," according to the Houston Chronicle.

Our View: It's going to take a lot to get Peavy, and it's getting more difficult. The Cardinals and Astros have said they aren't in the market for him, and Peavy doesn't want to go to Atlanta if Yunel Escobar is one of the trade pieces.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxFriday 11/7, 8:47 AM CT
Jake Peavy has decided that he would like Yunel Escobar to remain with the Braves if he is dealt to Atlanta, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. Agent Barry Axelrod said, "One of the things we will want to look at some point is, 'Who are you giving up? How much are you weakening your team to make this deal? If Team X trades three starting pitchers and a starting shortstop to get Jake Peavy, that lessens their chance of being a successful team."

Our View: This will make it more difficult for Padres' GM Kevin Towers to deal Peavy, who wants to be traded but does not want his new team to be weakended in the deal.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxFriday 11/7, 7:01 AM CT
The Padres have asked the Cubs for Jeff Samardzija as part of a potential deal for Jake Peavy, that may also include Felix Pie, Sean Marshall, and Ronny Cedeno, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: The Padres are still going to talk to the Braves, but are not offering top pitching prospect Tommy Hanson. The inclusion of Samardzija could motivate the Padres to complete a deal with Chicago. The Cubs are on Peavy's short list of preferred landing spots.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxThursday 11/6, 7:08 PM CT
In his strongest statement yet, GM Kevin Towers basically flat out said that Jake Peavy has thrown his last pitch for the Padres, according to the Associated Press. "The train's kind of left the station," Towers said as he also commented that a deal should be worked out prior to the Winter Meetings on December 8th.

Our View: Peavy is likely to end up with the Cubs, Astros, Dodgers or Braves. The reports will continue to fly fast and furious until a deal is consummated as the rumor mill is working overdrive on this one.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxThursday 11/6, 3:04 PM CT
Acquiring Jake Peavy is not on the Yankees' agenda, according to LoHud.com. But the ace hurler will most likely have a new home in 2009, as Peavy talks have progressed to a point where he has been told he’s going to be traded, it’s just a matter of when a deal is struck. GM Kevin Towers said, "That train has left the station."

Our View: Peavy's destination has been narrowed down to three clubs, all residing in the NL. The Padres are known to be dealing with the Braves and Cubs. The third team could be the Cardinals or Astros. The Yankees are not in the mix.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxTuesday 11/4, 12:29 PM CT
Jake Peavy's agent Barry Axelrod said that it's untrue that Peavy has agreed to waive his no-trade clause to go to either the Angels or Yankees, according to the New York Post.

Our View: It appears that Peavy really wants to stay in the NL, so it would be surprising to see him waive his no-trade protection to go to the AL.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxTuesday 11/4, 9:46 AM CT
Jake Peavy will likely still be traded, but new scenarios may be needed to complete the deal, according to Fox Sports. A three-way trade involving the Cubs or Braves might be a solution.

Our View: The Padres are pretty set on getting four prospects. The Braves seem to be equally set on not giving up that many players for Peavy which means that another team getting involved could be the only way this gets done. The Cubs, on the other hand, probably don't have the quality of prospects to get it done alone. We should know more after the GM meetings take place this week.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxMonday 11/3, 10:14 PM CT
SI.com reports that Jake Peavy has added the New York Yankees and Los Angeles Angels to his list of teams that he would accept a trade to.

Our View: This should make things interesting as the National League teams had initially balked at the Padres' demands and Peavy's contract. Both AL teams figure to pull out more stops for the former Cy Young award winner.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxMonday 11/3, 10:44 AM CT
Several MLB clubs have displayed interest for elite pitcher Jake Peavy, but Padres' GM Kevin Towers noted that he is focusing on three teams that Peavy has marked as preferred destinations, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.

Our View: Towers has declined to identify the three teams, but the source believes they are the Cubs, Dodgers, and Braves.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxFriday 10/31, 1:18 PM CT
Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports believes the Padres will open negotiations with the Cubs and Dodgers next week regarding ace hurler Jake Peavy.

Our View: The Braves could not work out a deal, so the Cubs and Dodgers get the next chance to strike a deal for Peavy, both teams of which are on his preferred list of destinations. The Dodgers have a surplus of solid young talent, but pitcher Clayton Kershaw is considered untouchable.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxWednesday 10/29, 8:15 PM CT
FoxSports.com reports that trade talks between the Braves and Padres are on hold after San Diego requested five players in return. The final package could hinge on whether the Braves take back shortstop Khalil Greene as a replacement for Yunel Escobar, who likely would be included in the deal.

Our View: Escobar is an excellent prospect at shortstop and a Bobby Cox favorite. Peavy remains one of the best pitchers in the NL and it seems likely that he will be dealt before spring training.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxSunday 10/26, 2:55 PM CT
Braves GM Frank Wren will not part with top pitching prospect Tommy Hanson in a trade for Jake Peavy, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.

Our View: Most have considered the Braves the front-runners in the race to land Peavy, but that may no longer be the case if they are refusing to part with Hanson.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxThursday 10/23, 10:42 AM CT
Jake Peavy does not appear to be going to the Cardinals, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. St. Louis GM John Mozeliak has all but dismissed the Cardinals as players for him, the Post reports.

Our View: The Cardinals want to see what they have with their own ace, Chris Carpenter, before moving forward. However, before they figure that out, many of the better available pitchers could be moved to new teams.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxWednesday 10/22, 4:27 PM CT
Following the World Series, Jake Peavy is expected to be dealt to the Atlanta Braves, according to the New York Post.

Our View: Peavy would be a valuable addition to any rotation, but the Braves could really use him with all of their holes. Tim Hudson, John Smoltz, and Tom Glavine all finished the season on the 60-day DL for Atlanta last year, and Mike Hampton was on the DL for most of the season as well. Hampton didn't pitch in the majors until late July.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxWednesday 10/22, 10:07 AM CT
The Colorado Rockies placed a call to the San Diego Padres to inquire about Padres' ace Jake Peavy , according to the Denver Post. However, they were told that the Rockies are not one of the teams that Peavy would waive his no trade clause to go to.

Our View: It appears that there are a slew of teams after the 2007 NL Cy Young award winner, which is hardly surprising. However, Peavy's insistence on being dealt to a NL club will make it more difficult to trade him.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxSunday 10/19, 10:19 AM CT
The Red Sox will reportedly take a shot at acquiring Jake Peavy, according to the Boston Herald.

Our View: Peavy prefers to remain in the NL, but would consider playing for a top AL organization like Boston, who are currently chasing their third trip to the World Series over a five-year span. The Padres are believed to be interested in two pitchers and a position player in exchange for Peavy, and Boston has a surplus of strong young talent to interest the team.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxSunday 10/19, 7:47 AM CT
The Brewers are reportedly going to push hard to land Padres' ace hurler Jake Peavy, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View: Milwaukee will likely lose CC Sabathia, and possibly the oft-injured Ben Sheets. Milwaukee makes sense, considering the Padres covet a shortstop and the Brewers would move J.J. Hardy in the right situation. Peavy has noted that he would prefer to pitch in the National League and can control things with his no-trade clause.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxSaturday 10/18, 9:16 AM CT
Jake Peavy has given the Padres a list of teams he would go to, and the Astros are high on that list, but a trade to Houston is highly doubtful because the team simply doesn't have the prospects to acquire him, according to Astros.com.

Our View: The two teams that are the reported front-runners for the services of the Padres ace are the Dodgers and Braves.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxFriday 10/17, 7:41 PM CT
The Padres and Atlanta Braves trade talks centering around Jake Peavy have started to gain some momentum, according to the Braves Official Website.

Our View: Peavy is from Alabama and would welcome a deal to the Braves, though we are still likely a long way away from seeing a resolution to any Peavy deal.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxFriday 10/17, 7:22 PM CT
Jake Peavy will not be heading to the Angels, according to a report by Buster Olney of ESPN. Apparently Peavy has given the team a list of five teams he would accept a deal to: Atlanta, St. Louis, Chicago (Cubs), Dodgers and Astros.

Our View: Peavy has a no-trade clause so the Padres will have to move him to a team he deems acceptable, and apparently his previously stated desire to remain in the National League still pertains.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxFriday 10/17, 10:53 AM CT
The Newark Star-Ledger reports that the Yankees and Padres have had preliminary discussions regarding ace Jake Peavy.

Our View: Several teams are interested in the 2007 NL Cy Young award winner. Any deal between New York and San Diego would almost certainly involve Phil Hughes and/or Ian Kennedy who fell below expectations this past season.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxThursday 10/16, 6:09 PM CT
The Atlanta Braves are working on a trade to acquire Padres ace Jake Peavy, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The paper reports that discussions have included a minimum of three high-quality prospects.

Our View: Peavy is just 27 and has a contract that runs through 2012 with an option for 2013 (at $22 million). A move from San Diego's spacious Petco Park to pretty much anywhere could have a slight effect on Peavy's great numbers, but not enough for fantasy owners to downgrade him considerably.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxThursday 10/16, 8:59 AM CT
Jake Peavy's agent said he recently gave Towers a list of teams to which Peavy might consent to being traded, according to the Los Angeles Times. On that list were the Los Angeles Dodgers, Atlanta Braves, Chicago Cubs, Houston Astros and St. Louis Cardinals.

Our View: The Padres lost 99 games this season despite 173.2 innings and a 2.85 ERA from their ace. They are now in rebuilding mode and should be able to fetch a slew of top prospects for the right-hander who has a reasonable contract all the way through 2012.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxTuesday 10/14, 4:33 PM CT
The North County Times reports that Jake Peavy has been made available for trades. He is set to make $11 million next season and is signed through 2012. "This was a different year than last year," general manager Kevin Towers said of the shift in priorities, before noting the difficulty. "You're arguably talking about moving one of the top pitchers in the game. But it's not a 100-percent given."

Our View: The Padres lost 99 games this season despite 173.2 innings and a 2.85 ERA from their ace. Peavy will demand an extremely high price tag but expect a number of contenders to get involved. The best package of prospects will probably land the 27-year-old. He is 86-62 with a 3.25 ERA in 199 career starts.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxTuesday 10/7, 9:24 AM CT
The Atlanta Braves could make an effort to acquire Padres ace Jake Peavy in the offseason, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Our View: Padres GM Kevin Towers recently said that there was not an untouchable in his organization, which has set off a frenzy of speculation from numerous teams.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxSunday 10/5, 9:07 AM CT
The Boston Globe speculates that the Red Sox could trade for Jake Peavy this off-season if the Padres make him available.

Our View: Peavy, Daisuke, Lester and Beckett? The Red Sox would certainly have a dream team in that scenario, though Peavy's keeper owners have to hope against a move out of pitcher-friendly Petco.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxTuesday 9/30, 3:23 PM CT
The Padres ended the 2008 campaign with a disappointing 63-99 record, but manager Bud Black will be back in 2009, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.

Our View: 2009 will mark his third season with the team. They closed out this season with the third worst record in the majors.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxThursday 9/25, 11:57 PM CT
Jake Peavy threw 105 pitches in just five innings on Thursday night in L.A. The Padres ace gave up three runs, four hits, and four walks while striking out just three. He left with a no-decision.

Our View: It would almost seem certain that Peavy is happy to see his 2008 come to a close. Despite a 2.85 ERA in 27 starts, he is just 9-11. He will be keeping a close eye on the Padres roster moves this winter.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxMonday 9/22, 9:51 AM CT
Jake Peavy's next start has been pushed back from Tuesday to Thursday, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.

Our View: He was scratched from his scheduled start Friday to attend to his wife for the birth of his son, and manager Bud Black believes he needs more time to prepare. Wade LeBlanc will start Tuesday and Shawn Estes will go Wednesday.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxFriday 9/19, 4:23 PM CT
Jake Peavy was scratched from his Friday night start to be with his wife for the birth of his son.

Our View: Peavy has endured some tough luck this month and has not won since August 14th. If he ever gets solid run support, Peavy will return to the top of the fantasy pitching heap.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxSaturday 9/13, 12:00 AM CT
Jake Peavy gave up more than ten hits for the first time all season in Friday night's loss to the Giants. San Francisco successfully connected 11 times, including two home runs, to beat the ace 5-2.

Our View: Peavy might be losing a little motivation in the process of San Diego's pitiful season. He is now 9-11 and certainly is already looking ahead to 2009.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxSaturday 9/6, 8:20 PM CT
Jake Peavy suffered his tenth loss of the season on Saturday despite pitching well against a tough Brewers' lineup. He allowed just one run in seven innings. However, his control was a little off as he walked four.

Our View: It's been an incredibly unfortunate season for Peavy who carries a 9-10 record despite just a 2.63 ERA. He remains one of the best pitchers in the game, but has been cursed with a terrible offense.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxSunday 8/31, 6:01 PM CT
Jake Peavy struck out 13 batters over eight shutout innings against the Rockies on Sunday. It was his highest single-game strikeout total of the year. Peavy held the Rockies to five hits and walked two. Unfortunately, he took a no-decision.

Our View: Peavy went 1-3 over six starts in August despite a 2.77 ERA. Nice support, huh? He remains a fantasy ace despite the efforts of his teammates.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxMonday 8/25, 11:57 PM CT
Jake Peavy went six innings and surrendered two earned runs while striking out seven in the Padres 4-2 win over Arizona.

Our View: Even with his 9-9 record, Peavy has been a good addition to fantasy staffs, with an ERA under 3.00 and a solid WHIP under 1.20.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxWednesday 8/20, 11:28 PM CT
Jake Peavy saw his record drop to 9-9 as he threw a poor game, pitching five innings, allowing six runs on five hits and walking four in the Padres loss to Arizona.

Our View: Peavy has been tremendous this month, so chalk this one up to a bad night. His record is not a good indicator of how well he has pitched this season, as the Padres simply do not score enough runs for him.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxThursday 8/14, 5:09 PM CT
Jake Peavy did not pitch poorly over his last two starts, but with the San Diego offense as porous as it is, he wound up taking a loss each time. He reversed that trend today, throwing seven innings of one run ball while striking out eight in the Padres 3-2 win over Milwaukee.

Our View: Peavy has had just one poor month back in May, but has been very good otherwise. With the offensively-challenged Padres backing him, wins will be tough to come by. Still, he does so much else for fantasy owners, that he can certainly be a valuable asset.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxFriday 8/8, 11:36 PM CT
Jake Peavy allowed three runs over six innings to the Rockies, but the Padres failed to give him enough support as Peavy lost his eighth game of the season.

Our View: Uncharacteristically, Peavy walked five batters and struck out only three batters as he has dropped three of his last five starts. No reason to panic though as Peavy remains what he has been the past few years and that is an undeniable ace.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxSunday 8/3, 12:11 AM CT
Jake Peavy only surrendered one earned run on five hits over seven innings in Saturday's 2-0 loss to the Giants at PETCO Park, with no walks and seven strikeouts.

Our View: He pitched great, but was handed a loss due to no run support from his team-mates. The Padres' ace holds a strong 2.59 ERA and has more strikeouts than innings pitched, but is now 8-7.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxSunday 7/27, 4:42 PM CT
Jake Peavy struck out 10 batters in seven innings to pick up his eighth win of the season on Sunday. He allowed just one run and carries a ridiculously low ERA of 2.67.

Our View: What else can we say? He's an ace with poor run support. He now has more strikeouts than innings pitched. On a contender, Peavy would likely have 12 or so wins by now.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxThursday 7/17, 9:38 PM CT
For the first time since July 9, 2003 Jake Peavy surrendered four home runs in a game. The Cardinals managed four solo shots off of him in seven innings.

Our View: They were the only runs he gave up on Thursday, and he struck out seven. Peavy should return to his Cy Young-like form by his next start.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxFriday 7/11, 11:17 PM CT
Jake Peavy threw seven shutout innings on Friday against the run-thirsty Atlanta Braves. He allowed four hits and struck out seven.

Our View: Peavy's ERA is down to a ridiculous 2.47 after not allowing a run in the past 14 innings.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxSaturday 7/5, 10:50 PM CT
Jake Peavy held the D'backs scoreless for seven innings on his way to win number six for the Padres. Peavy allowed just five base runners (three hits, two walks), while striking out six Diamondbacks.

Our View: Peavy has 26 K in 29 innings since coming back from the DL as his ERA is back down to 2.67. He appears to be all the way back from the arm issues that hampered him, though his somewhat violent delivery still leaves him as someone to monitor closely.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxSunday 6/29, 6:28 PM CT
Jake Peavy slipped to 5-5 after a tough outing against the Mariners on Sunday. The ace served up 10 hits over six innings, but he held the opposition to three runs. Peavy walked one and struck out six.

Our View: Peavy is going through a relatively tough stretch. We stress the "relatively" part because even the bad times for this stud would be good for most hurlers. We're not concerned.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxWednesday 6/25, 12:20 PM CT
Jake Peavy was solid once again on Tuesday but did not factor into the decision. He allowed one run on five hits with six strikeouts in six innings.

Our View: Peavy is spectacular at PetCo Park. He has a 1.29 ERA at home, the best in the majors.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxWednesday 6/18, 11:59 PM CT
Jake Peavy allowed four runs (three earned) on six hits, walked two and struck out four in a losing effort against the Yankees on Wednesday night. The conditions were wet and the fielders were having problems with batted balls. The Padres made two errors in the game, one effected the pitch count and the pace of their ace.

Our View: Peavy is still on a pitch count and could only last four innings after throwing 93 pitches.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxFriday 6/13, 6:43 PM CT
Jake Peavy didn't complain of any soreness after needing only 72 pitches to get through his six innings against the Dodgers on Thursday night, this according to the team website. The Cy Young winner struck out four and didn't walk a batter in his first start since May 14.

Our View: Peavy (5-3, 2.64) will make his next start on Wednesday at Yankee Stadium, meaning he will get the benefit of an extra day of rest with the Padres' off-day Monday.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxThursday 6/12, 7:28 PM CT
Jake Peavy had a triumphant first effort back as he he hurled six shutout innings against the Dodgers, according to the Associated Press. “I’ve got a long way to go to be where I want to be,” said Peavy. “But I was able to make some good pitches when I had to. I wasn’t asked to grind it out because of the score. I was able to pitch to contact.”

Our View: Peavy needed just 72 pitches while allowing three hits and not walking a single batter. Feel free to activate him if you were waiting to see how he responded to his injured arm. He looked great today.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxThursday 6/12, 1:48 PM CT
Jake Peavy has officially been activated from the DL, according to the AP. The team optioned lefty Joe Thatcher to Triple-A Portland as an adjoining move.

Our View: He has recovered from a strained right elbow, and will return to the rotation today against the Dodgers. He will be on a pitch count of 90, but should be penciled back into your fantasy lineups.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxThursday 6/12, 9:05 AM CT
Jake Peavy will be on a soft pitch count of 90 when he returns from the DL today on Thursday, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. Manager Bud Black said, "We've got to see how the game goes."

Our View: Peavy has recovered from a strained right elbow. The Padres' ace should be in your fantasy lineups, regardless of a pitch count.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxTuesday 6/10, 7:38 PM CT
San Diego RHP Jake Peavy will come off the disabled list to face the Los Angeles Dodgers on Thursday, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: The team reports Peavy performed well in a four-inning simulated game on Saturday and has felt no pain or discomfort since, nursing a strained right elbow. His last start was on May 14th against the Chicago Cubs. But the club shut him down when a lingering pain in his elbow continued after that start. He was placed on the 15-day disabled list on May 20, retroactive to May 15. The team has debated leaving him out of action until Friday to open their series at Cleveland, but the Padres are ready to get him on the mound and target Thursday for that return.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxSaturday 6/7, 8:42 PM CT
Jake Peavy threw a simulated game on Saturday and the hope is that he will be able to take the hill for the Padres by the middle of the coming week, according to MLB.com. "It wasn't crisp by any means but I came out of it healthy," Peavy said. "Just have to get better than that before I pitch in a Major League baseball game, I know that."

Our View: Peavy will throw on Monday in a side session, and if that goes well he will likely start on Thursday against the Dodgers.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxWednesday 6/4, 10:31 PM CT
San Diego RHP Jake Peavy took a step towards returning to the mound today, completing a successful and challenging bullpen session, according to CBSSports.com.

Our View: The reigning Cy Young winner threw 45 pitches off the mound and has reported no pain or discomfort. He will be re-evaluated on Thursday, and if things go well, he will throw his scheduled rehab start in the minors or in a simulated game on Saturday.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxSunday 6/1, 9:39 AM CT
Jake Peavy hopes to return to the rotation within the next two weeks. "That's realistic, absolutely," he informs the San Diego Union-Tribune. Peavy has been happy with his flat-ground throwing sessions. He is on the DL due to a strained right elbow.

Our View: That's a vague timeline, and we hope for better updates in the near future. In the meanwhile, fantasy owners looking at the week ahead can plan to be without their ace.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxThursday 5/29, 3:56 PM CT
Jake Peavy could throw off a mound as early as Sunday if his flat ground throwing session on Friday goes favorably, according to MLB.com. Peavy is recovering from a right elbow strain, and said he is excited about the way his elbow feels after a second throwing session Wednesday. Manager Bud Black would ideally like to see Peavy throw a couple of bullpen sessions, possibly followed by a simulated game. But Black said Peavy might not have to go on a Minor League rehab assignment before returning to the Padres' starting rotation.

Our View: Peavy was placed on the DL on May 20, retroactive to May 15, and would be eligible to come off the DL on Friday. Peavy previously hoped to return by the weekend, but that was deemed as unrealistic.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxWednesday 5/28, 4:33 PM CT
Jake Peavy is hoping to return to the Padres rotation this weekend, according to SportsTicker. The righty, who is on the DL with a strained right elbow, threw 40 pitches Tuesday in his first baseball-related action since being sidelined. "Everything felt normal, so that was good news," said Peavy. "Obviously, it's gone longer than we thought, but everything went well... Hopefully everything will go well and we can progress towards getting back out there."

Our View: The Padres have yet to set a timetable for Peavy's return, so it's not clear yet if the weekend is a legitimate possibility. He's eligible to come off the DL on Friday.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxTuesday 5/27, 9:13 PM CT
Jake Peavy threw 40 pitches on flat ground and took batting practice Tuesday in his first baseball-related action since his right elbow strain, according to MLB.com. "Everything felt normal, so that was good news," said Peavy. "Obviously, it's gone longer than we thought, but everything went well today, and we'll try again tomorrow and hopefully everything will go well and we can progress towards getting back out there." Peavy had an MRI Tuesday morning, and the results were positive. "The MRI looked good today, with no structural damage. Everything looked intact with tendons and ligaments." When asked when he might return to the mound, Peavy responded, "I don't know, maybe sometime this weekend. I hope we can climb up on the mound and have enough arm strength to get through that. And hopefully it won't take too much longer after that to get on the mound for real."

Our View: This is certainly positive news on Peavy, but he's obviously not out of the woods yet. We'll continue to track his recovery.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxSunday 5/25, 9:46 AM CT
Jake Peavy will undergo a follow-up MRI on his sore right elbow on Tuesday, according to the North County Times. It was originally believed that Jake Peavy would resume playing catch on Saturday, but that plan was abandoned following a meeting with team doctors on Friday. Manager Bud Black noted that Peavy's elbow is improving, but doctors can't fully clear him. Black added, "There's still a little discomfort when he goes through a few of the stress tests." Peavy commented, "It's still tender. Everybody wants to get back out there, but you have to listen to your body."

Our View: Peavy won't perform any baseball activities until he's cleared, which could come after his follow-up MRI. Black said if Peavy doesn't begin throwing by this week, he will require a rehab assignment before returning.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxTuesday 5/20, 4:45 PM CT
As expected, the San Diego Padres placed Jake Peavy on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday, one day after an MRI revealed he has a strained right elbow. According to the (TICKER), the move is retroactive to Thursday, May 15. The reigning National League Cy Young Award winner skipped his scheduled start Monday and will miss at least two more outings before he is eligible to be activated on May 30. To take Peavy’s spot on the roster, the Padres recalled lefthander Joe Thatcher from Class AAA Portland.

Our View: Peavy will undergo another MRI later this week to determine if the swelling has subsided.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxMonday 5/19, 8:33 PM CT
Jake Peavy is likely headed to the DL, according to a report on the San Diego Tribune. Apparently Bud Black told reports that though the results of Peavy's MRI are still not in, the team will likely place him on the DL regardless.

Our View: Not at all surprising. If Peavy blows out his arm the Padres are toast, so look for them to be extremely careful with their ace no matter what the MRI says. Hopefully it won't be more than a couple of weeks.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxSunday 5/18, 2:33 PM CT
The San Diego Padres report RHP Jake Peavy will miss his next scheduled start on Monday, hampered by soreness in his pitching elbow, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View: Peavy reports the discomfort has been there for some time but he failed to report to the team due to his desire to pitch through the pain. He has lost three of his last four decisions and lasted just four innings in his last outing against the Cubs on Wednesday. The team reports Peavy will undergo an MRI on Monday once the team returns to San Diego. LHP Will Ledezma is slated to fill the start on Monday against St. Louis.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxWednesday 5/14, 10:50 PM CT
San Diego ace Jake Peavy pitched well, but the Cubs still managed to score runs and handed Peavy his third loss of the season, winning 8-5. Peavy pitched just four innings, giving up four runs (all earned) on seven hits, walking just two with eight strikeouts.

Our View: Peavy now has just one win in his last six outings and his ERA is steadily on the rise.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxSaturday 5/10, 1:23 AM CT
Even with Cy Young winner Jake Peavy pitching, there is no margin for error, not with a San Diego offense that can't string more than two hits together over the course of nine innings. Garrett Atkins and Brad Hawpe hit consecutive bases-loaded singles off Peavy in the sixth inning Friday night and that was enough to give the Colorado Rockies a 3-2 lead, and eventually a 4-2 victory sending the Padres to their 18th loss in 22 games. The hard-throwing right-hander allowed three runs on seven hits, walking two and striking out six in six innings of work.

Our View: Peavy even accounted for half of San Diego's offense, scoring the Padres' first run after hitting a double in the third.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxSaturday 5/3, 10:42 PM CT
Jake Peavy earned his fourth win of the season on Saturday, as San Diego topped Florida 7-2. Peavy only allowed two runs on five hits over 5.2 innings, with two walks and eight strikeouts.

Our View: Peavy is now 4-2 with a 2.22 ERA over 48.2 innings, with 46 strikeouts. He has now evened his career mark against the Marlins to 4-4.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxSaturday 5/3, 11:23 AM CT
San Diego RHP Jake Peavy is searching to get back into the win column today as his Padres continue their three-game visit with the Florida Marlins.

Our View: Peavy started the season with three consecutive wins but has since failed to garner another, suffering two no-decisions followed by a loss in his next three starts. Peavy has posted an ERA of 2.57 during that time, but the reigning Cy Young award winner has seen his team fall short in efforts to support his cause with offense. Peavy have faced the Marlins seven times during his career, going 3-4 with a 3.15 ERA.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxSunday 4/27, 8:08 PM CT
Jake Peavy gave up four hits over seven innings, losing at home for the first time in 10 starts since last July. Peavy had gone 6-0 with a 0.68 ERA in that span.

Our View: Peavy, whose ERA rose to 2.09, allowed more earned runs Sunday than he had in his first three home starts this season combined (one earned run in 24 innings).
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxTuesday 4/22, 10:46 PM CT
San Diego ace Jake Peavy suffered through his worst outing of the season thus far as the Padres were taken down 7-11 by the HOuston Astros. Peavy threw 112 pitches over six innings to surrender four runs (all earned) on seven hits, including two home runs surrendered.

Our View: The four runs allowed match the combined total Peavy has let go over his first four starts.
Jake Peavy, P, Chicago White SoxTuesday 4/22, 3:24 PM CT
Jake Peavy looks to continue his dominance in 2008 when he takes the mound tonight against Houston, according to MLB.com. He is currently 3-0 with a stellar 1.20 ERA, and 0.90 WHIP over 30 innings, with 27 strikeouts. He notably threw seven shutout innings against Houston on opening day.

Our View: He has lived up to high expectations for those who took him in the first round of the fantasy draft, and he looks to have another strong outing tonight.

Jake Peavy was able to only work roughly one-third of Thursday's game against the Rockies. The ace tossed eight scoreless innings in what turned out to be a 22-inning battle. Peavy allowed only four hits, walked three, and struck out 11.

Our View: Peavy is off to another brilliant start this year and was worth whatever you paid for him in fantasy drafts and auctions.

Jake Peavy has been accused of using pine tar during his Saturday win over the Dodgers. The LA Times reports that an image showing a dark substance on the thumb, forefinger and middle finger was taken from Fox's national broadcast on Saturday and appeared on the message board of a Dodgers fan site later that night next to one of Peavy's hands magnified. "Pine tar," Dodgers pitching coach Rick Honeycutt said. "Rosin's not that dark." Peavy, who threw a complete game and limited the Dodgers to two hits, denied that he cheated to get a better grip on the baseball. "It's just dirt," said Peavy as he looked at copies of the pictures. "I pick up dirt. I mean, come on. I mean, seriously. That's funny to me, seriously." Don't expect anything to come of this, except for an umpire making a trip to the mound when the Padres and Dodgers meet again.

Jake Peavy improved to 10-1 lifetime against the Dodgers as he allowed only two hits in a complete game victory on Saturday. Peavy needed 116 pitches to strike out eight batters while walking one and permitting just one walk. Can you believe that Peavy won the NL Cy Young award last season without a single complete game? In fact, Peavy didn't pitch into the ninth inning a single time last season.

Jake Peavy will get one more start before he’s to throw the team's first pitch of the 2008 season, March 31 against the Houston Astros at Petco Park, this according to the San Diego Union Tribune. Peavy isn't happy with his command – fastballs that are missing the spot more than he would like. Ryan Braun hit a fat-ball for a three-run home run in the first inning on Friday, but according to Peavy that isn't concerning, just frustrating. Peavy told the paper that the “achy” shoulder was of “no concern whatsoever” but did renew his appreciation of the team's trainers. Spring is what it is.. exhibition play. Peavy should still be the first or second pitcher to come off the board in any fantasy format.

Jake Peavy once again looked mortal as he allowed four runs on three walks and six hits on Friday in 4.1 innings pitched. Peavy, who had five strikeouts on the day, hasn't looked anything like the Cy Young quality pitcher he actually is, but no one is in panic mode as he has used this spring to work on a changeup and locating his pitches while paying little attention to the results.

San Diego ace Jake Peavy said he was using today's Cactus League start to work on his fastball, according to the Associated Press. The results were not as hoped, giving up four runs in the 1st inning as the Padres lost to the Angels 4-8. Peavy worked three innings, giving up five hits with two walks and six strike outs. To be fair, Peavy didn't allow a hit over those last two innings, admitting he abandoned his desire to work on the fastball. "My pride took over," said Peavy.

Jake Peavy worked three innings on Thursday and picked up the win for the Padres over the Rockies. Peavy allowed four hits and two runs on the day as he also struck out four. Peavy looked sharp other than a HR allowed to Troy Tulowitzki, so consider him to be good to go as the best right handed hurler in the NL.

San Diego enters Wednesday's play one game ahead of Colorado and Philadelphia in the Wild Card race; the Padres are also two games back of Arizona in the NL West. It's hard to imagine how this crazy race will be decided before Sunday, so it looks like Peavy owners can look forward to a pair of starts.
