Horacio Ramirez, P, Washington NationalsMonday 6/15, 3:31 PM CT
Horacio Ramirez has signed a minor league contract with the Washington Nationals and reported to Triple-A Syracuse.

Our View: Ramirez was designated for assignment on June 6 by the Royals. He is 0-2 with a 5.96 ERA in 19 appearances in 2009.
Horacio Ramirez, P, Washington NationalsSaturday 6/6, 11:37 AM CT
According to the Kansas City Star, the Royals have designated Horacio Ramirez for assignment. The move was made to make room for Luke Hochevar.

Our View: Ramirez started one game for the Royals this season and had a 5.96 ERA in 19 appearances. He will enter into the Royals' Triple-A affiliate's rotation. Fantasy owners won't miss him.
Horacio Ramirez, P, Washington NationalsTuesday 4/21, 1:46 PM CT
MLB.com is reporting that Horacio Ramirez will pitch out of the bullpen full-time now that Brian Bannister has been called up to join the rotation. Ramirez got hammered in his only start this season, allowing six runs on nine hits in six innings.

Our View: Ramirez is probably better suited in the bullpen than the rotation. If Bannister really struggles he could find his way back into that fifth starter spot, but don't hold your breath. His fantasy value is still nearly nonexistent.
Horacio Ramirez, P, Washington NationalsThursday 4/2, 7:00 PM CT
Horacio Ramirez was roughed up by the Rangers on Thursday, one day after he was named the Royals' fifth starter. He surrendered six runs on nine hits in six innings.

Our View: Ramirez won't get much of a look in fantasy drafts, if not for his horrendous 9.00 ERA this spring, then for his history of health problems. In six seasons, he has started more than 30 games only once.
Horacio Ramirez, P, Washington NationalsWednesday 4/1, 3:43 PM CT
Against all odds, Horacio Ramirez has been named the fifth starter to the Royals 2009 rotation, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Ramirez did not make a start last season, rather he was used for 37.1 innings of relief. This spring, he has proven why. In 19 innings of work, including five starts, he has a 9.00 ERA and allowed 35 hits, including six home runs. If you find yourself considering Ramirez for your fantasy squad, it may be time to hang up the cheat sheets.
Horacio Ramirez, P, Washington NationalsThursday 3/26, 12:57 PM CT
Horacio Ramirez was battered in his last start against the Angels, but it turns out that he bent his fingernail back moving furniture, and could not throw his curveball during the game, according to the Kansas City Star.

Our View: Ramirez also did not throw his cutter during the game because he was working on other things, but his finger is now fine, and he'll resume throwing both his curve and cutter. Still, his fantasy prospects are not high, even with all of his pitches.
Horacio Ramirez, P, Washington NationalsSunday 3/22, 7:23 PM CT
Horacio Ramirez was shelled by the Angels on Sunday to the tune of 10 hits, nine earned runs, three home runs, and two walks over two innings of work.

Our View: Ramirez has been up and down all spring, but this marks a new low point. His shot at landing in the Royals opening day rotation appears to be getting longer and he should be avoided for fantasy purposes.
Horacio Ramirez, P, Washington NationalsWednesday 2/25, 5:59 PM CT
Horacio Ramirez had a terrible outing on Wednesday, getting knocked out during the first inning. He allowed six runs on seven hits, three of which were earned while recording just two outs.

Our View: Ramirez has a decent chance to make the Royals' rotation, but he can't have many more appearances like this if he expects to get penciled in.
Horacio Ramirez, P, Washington NationalsThursday 2/19, 11:58 PM CT
Horacio Ramirez has a good chance of landing one of the starting pitcher jobs with the Royals, according to the Kansas City Star.

Our View: The Royals wanted a left-handed starter for their rotation but Ramirez is a reach. He won 11 games and pitched over 200 innings back in 2005 and has not done much since. If the Royals give him a true opportunity make sure you keep an eye on his progress.
Horacio Ramirez, P, Washington NationalsThursday 12/11, 12:17 PM CT
The Royals have signed Horacio Ramirez, according to the Kansas City Star. His one-year deal is worth $1.8 million.

Our View: The lefty held a poor 1.45 WHIP over 37.1 innings with the White Sox and Royals in 2008, but the club feels he has some upside and is expected to compete for a spot in the rotation.
Horacio Ramirez, P, Washington NationalsSunday 6/22, 1:16 PM CT
The Royals have purchased the contract of Horacio Ramirez from Triple-A Omaha, according to the Sports Network.

Our View: The Royals signed the 28-year-old pitcher to a minor-league deal on May 21st, going 1-1 with 1.42 ERA in three starts with Omaha. He has yet to appear in the majors this season but touts a career record of 38-29 with a 4.61 ERA. To bring Ramirez aboard, the team optioned reliever Carlos Rosa to Omaha.
Horacio Ramirez, P, Washington NationalsWednesday 5/21, 11:39 PM CT
The Royals signed Horacio Ramirez to a minor-league deal Wednesday and assigned him to extended spring training, according to the Kansas City Star. He will report to Triple-A Omaha when he gets into game shape. Ramirez was released by the Mariners this spring.

Our View: Ramirez hasn't been doing anything for a couple months, so it will take him a while before he has any chance of joining the Royals rotation. Once he gets there, he's unlikely to do anything fantasy-worthy.
Horacio Ramirez, P, Washington NationalsWednesday 3/12, 3:12 PM CT
Pitcher Horacio Ramirez was released on Wednesday, just 15-months after the left-hander was acquired in a trade from Atlanta. A bad trade at that. CBS Sportsline reports that Seattle got Ramirez from Atlanta for reliever Rafael Soriano before last season. The 28-year-old Ramirez then went 8-7 with a 7.16 ERA in 20 starts and spent nearly two months on the disabled list because of a sore shoulder. The trade was one-sided on the day it was made, and in hindsight, one has to believe the M's wish they could have a mulligan.
Horacio Ramirez, P, Washington NationalsSaturday 2/9, 1:32 PM CT
After adding Erik Bedard and Carlos Silva to the rotation this offseason, GM Bill Bavasi plans to move Horacio Ramirez to the bullpen, according to the Seattle Times. Ramirez will have to improve a lot on the 7.16 ERA and 1.85 WHIP he posted last season in order to seriously compete for a long-relief role.
Horacio Ramirez, P, Washington NationalsSunday 9/16, 3:10 PM CT
Horacio Ramirez has been removed from the starting rotation, just one day after lasting only four batters in a loss to Tampa Bay. "Maybe he needs to take a step back and take a deep breath," manager John McLaren said in the AP. "The Yankees did it with (Mike) Mussina and we're doing it with him. We'll let somebody else start for one game." Ryan Feierabend and Jorge Campillo are among the candidates to replace Ramirez in the rotation.
Horacio Ramirez, P, Washington NationalsSunday 9/16, 10:44 AM CT
Horacio Ramirez lasted just four batters during his Saturday start, and it's possible he won't make another start this year, according to the Seattle Times. When asked about Ramirez's future in the rotation, manager John McClaren became agitated. "I'm not going there tonight. I'm emotionally upset. I'm not talking about anything else," he said, before quickly exiting. Either way, Ramirez deserves no attention in fantasy.
Horacio Ramirez, P, Washington NationalsWednesday 9/12, 11:45 AM CT
Despite registering just five outs in Monday's loss, Horacio Ramirez will keep his spot in the starting rotation, according to the Seattle Times. "I'm going to give Ramirez the ball Saturday [against the Devil Rays]," manager John McLaren said Tuesday. "I slept on it. Really, he's not struggling any more than our other starters. He actually kept us in the game in New York and Cleveland." Regardless, Ramirez is certainly not a guy you want to take a chance on in fantasy right now.
Horacio Ramirez, P, Washington NationalsThursday 8/16, 6:31 AM CT
Horacio Ramirez will remain in the rotation for now, despite the fact that he's allowed 24 hits and 17 earned runs over his last three starts, the AP reports. He's 7-4 for the year, despite a 7.38 ERA. The Mariners want him to adjust the speeds of his pitches -- they have found that his fastballs and breaking balls are coming in at the same speeds.
Horacio Ramirez, P, Washington NationalsSaturday 7/14, 8:40 AM CT
The Mariners intend to activate Horacio Ramirez from the disabled list to start Monday's game, according to the Seattle Times. He's been recovering from shoulder tendinitis and will aim to lower his terrible 6.47 ERA and 1.88 WHIP.
Horacio Ramirez, P, Washington NationalsThursday 7/12, 10:12 PM CT
Seattle manager John McLaren said he was going to meet with team trainers on Thursday to discuss the next step for Horacio Ramirez, who has been on the DL since May 25 with shoulder tendinitis, according to the AP. Ramirez threw 85 pitches in seven innings with the Mariners' rookie-league team in 104-degree heat in Peoria, Ariz., on Tuesday, then threw another 20 pitches in the bullpen. "Everything went well. Felt real good the next day," Ramirez said.
Horacio Ramirez, P, Washington NationalsSaturday 7/7, 8:31 AM CT

Horacio Ramirez, P, Washington NationalsWednesday 6/20, 10:39 AM CT
Horacio Ramirez said he felt good after throwing 60 pitches in a bullpen session before Tuesday's game. "But I've got to find out how it feels [today]," he said in the Seattle Times. "It's wait and see." Manager Mike Hargrove said that Ramirez, who is recovering from tendinitis in his shoulder, is still "a number of days away" from returning.
Horacio Ramirez, P, Washington NationalsThursday 6/7, 10:52 AM CT
Horacio Ramirez threw for 12 minutes on flat ground Wednesday from a distance of about 90 feet. It was the second day of such throwing for Ramirez, who will not return from the tendinitis in his left shoulder until at least the June 19 series against the Pirates, according to the Seattle Times. "Not now, no," said Ramirez. "It's just the fact that I haven't even thrown off a mound yet. It's a process you go through where you trust your shoulder and not have to think about it."
Horacio Ramirez, P, Washington NationalsFriday 5/25, 5:08 PM CT
The Mariners placed Horacio Ramirez on the disabled list Friday with tendinitis in his left shoulder, according to the AP. He left his start on Thursday after two innings with the injury. It's unclear who will replace him in the rotation.
Horacio Ramirez, P, Washington NationalsThursday 5/24, 9:07 PM CT
Horacio Ramirez lasted just two innings on Thursday before being pulled from the game. He was dealing with tightness in his throwing shoulder, according to the AP. "It's in the back of the shoulder," Ramirez said. "Velocity wasn't there. It doesn't allow me to finish a pitch. Hopefully it will calm down soon." At this point, he's day-to-day. More should be known about his status after he's further examined over the next day or two.
Horacio Ramirez, P, Washington NationalsFriday 3/23, 10:49 AM CT
Horacio Ramirez is expected to start the year as the Mariners No. 5 starter, according to the Seattle Times. The only remaining rotation question is how Jeff Weaver and Miguel Batista will slot in front of Ramirez; Felix Hernandez and Jarrod Washburn are set as the team's top two starters.

Horacio Ramirez, P, Washington NationalsThursday 9/14, 6:18 AM CT
Horacio Ramirez has pretty much given up any hope of returning to action this season, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "It's not looking good," said Ramirez, who is dealing with a partially torn ligament in his left middle finger. "All they'll let me do is toss with the finger off the ball," Ramirez said. "They won't let me put any pressure on it. I have to just let the finger rest and heal. It's frustrating."

Horacio Ramirez, P, Washington NationalsTuesday 8/8, 6:56 PM CT
Horacio Ramirez will be placed on the disabled list with a partially torn ligament in his left middle finger, according to the AP. Though he won't require surgery because the ligament is not torn all the way through, it is possible that he will miss the rest of the season. "I can't throw with it," Ramirez said. "I can't keep the ball down. I can't get the natural movement on the ball that I normally get."
