Jerome Williams, P, Oakland AthleticsTuesday 3/17, 7:20 AM CT
Jerome Williams has been sent down to the minors by the Athletics, according to the SF Chronicle.

Our View: Williams was in the running for the fifth spot in Oakland's rotation, but did not show the club enough in spring action. He went 0-5 over six starts in 2008, with a 1.73 WHIP.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports that Jerome Williams will compete with lefties Gio Gonzalez and Josh Outman for the fifth starter's job in Oakland this spring.

Our View: Williams was pretty bad the last time we saw him in the majors when he went 0-5 with a 7.20 ERA in six starts for the Nationals. He hada solid season in the Dodgers farm system last year, but it's unlikely he makes much of a noteworthy impact this season.

Jerome Williams continued his traveling ways on Thursday as he was signed to a minor league deal by the Dodgers, according to the Los Angeles Daily News.

Our View: When last we saw Williams in a major league uniform he was 0-5 with a 7.20 ERA for the Nationals last season. Williams was assigned to Single-A Inland Empire, so even though the Dodgers have issues in the rotation, it doesn't appear that Williams is on the fast track for a return to the majors.

Former San Francisco, Chicago Cub, and Washington pitcher Jerome Williams has found an employer, signing with the Long Beach Armada of the Golden Baseball League, according to MLB.com. Williams has been plagued by weight problems but has reportedly dropped to 230 pounds (a loss of about 30 bills). The former 1st-round draft pick from 1999 showed potential in San Fran but fell apart after being traded to Chicago as part of a deal that brought reliever LaTroy Hawkings west. Now he is attempting to get back in the eye of the league and earn an opportunity to pitch on the MLB stage once more.

Jerome Williams is likely headed back to the disabled list, just one day after being activated. Williams was previously dealing with a sprained left ankle, but he felt some pain in his right shoulder on Tuesday night. "I've never felt that kind of thing before," Williams told the Washington Post. He will undergo an MRI on Wednesday.

Jerome Williams left his start Tuesday after feeling a pull in his rotator cuff, the AP reports. "I don't know what in the world's going on right now," Williams said. "I pitch fine. I go up on the DL, then came off of that -- and now this." He'll be re-examined Wednesday.

Jerome Williams went on the 15-day disabled list Sunday, one day after injuring his left ankle against the Mets, the AP reports. "It's not serious. It's mild," manager Manny Acta said Sunday. "But it's bothering him, and it was probably going to stop him from making his next start." Williams suffered the injury as he was having his best night of the year; he allowed just one hit and one run to the Mets over six-plus innings.

Jerome Williams will stay in the Nationals rotation for now, even though he's 0-3 with a 5.63 ERA, the AP reports. "We're going to keep throwing him every five days out there. And we're going to keep talking to him," manager Manny Acta said. "I had a good talk with him during the game yesterday about showing his emotions and being so mad out there. I don't think being mad helps anybody. I don't think when people are mad they can think straight."

Jerome Williams had a nice outing Thursday, giving up just two unearned runs on two hits and a walk while striking out one. Williams has a 3.38 ERA this spring and appears to have a very good shot at a rotation spot.
Jerome Williams, P, Oakland AthleticsMonday 3/5, 5:56 PM CT
Jerome Williams was tagged for six runs (four earned) on four hits and two walks over 1 1/3 innings in his spring debut Monday. Williams is competing for one of the many jobs in the Nats rotation, and this outing obviously didn't help his chances at earning a spot.
Jerome Williams, P, Oakland AthleticsFriday 1/12, 2:37 PM CT
The Nationals came to terms on a deal with Jerome Williams on Friday, according to the AP. The one-year deal will pay him $500,000 in the majors, and $90,000 in the minors. He made just five appearances with the Cubs last year, holding a 7.30 ERA. Williams will compete for a rotation spot during the spring.

The A's claimed Jerome Williams off waivers from the Cubs on Tuesday, according to the AP. He went 0-2 with a 7.30 ERA in five games, including two starts, for the Cubs, who optioned him to Triple-A Iowa on April 23. He was not scheduled to immediately join the A's roster.

Even though the Cubs are desperate for a starter on Sunday, it is unlikely that Jerome Williams will be recalled with how poorly he has pitched, according to the AP. "I guess [Sunday is] a possibility, but we had hoped he would have gone down and performed better," manager Dusty Baker said. "He would have been back a long time ago if he had pitched like we had hoped. That's the last thing we told Jerome before he went down: If he went out and pitched three good games in a row, he would be back here. And it hasn't happened." Williams is 4-6 with a 4.76 ERA at Triple-A Iowa after compiling a 7.30 ERA in five April games for the Cubs.
