The Orioles optioned Tike Redman to Triple-A Norfolk Friday. He had been in a battle for a bench job, but with Jay Gibbons' suspension put on hold, that job disappeared.

Tike Redman went 1-for-2 today in the Orioles' 1-4 loss to the Mets in the Grapefruit League. Playing in left field, Redman is hoping to earn a spot of any kind on the major league roster and avoid starting in the minors. Left field is a bit of battle with Jay Gibbons and the loser of the 1B battle between Kevin Millar and Aubrey Huff vying for the position. Redman offers much more speed and a better glove than those veterans might bring to the table. If his bat proves worthy, he could be a darkhorse candidate for the position.
