Brian Lawrence, P, San Diego PadresFriday 6/19, 8:13 PM CT
Brian Lawrence has signed a minor league deal with the Padres. He will pitch at Triple-A Portland.

Our View: Lawrence is back in the Padres' organization as he previously pitched with the club from 2001-05. He is worth a look as a flier for deeper NL-only leagues as he may be called into action to help the Padres' struggling rotation.

Brian Lawrence made his debut with the Richmond Braves on Thursday, this according to the Richmond Times-Dispatch. Lawrence allowed three runs on six hits and three walks in 6 1/3 innings.

Our View: After a rough two-run first inning, he retired 13 of the next 15 hitters. Given the state of affairs for the Braves pitching staff, Lawrence is on his way to the bigs for another go-around.

The Braves have purchased the contract of Brian Lawrence from the Camden Riversharks of the Independent League and assigned him to Triple-A Richmond.

Our View: Lawrence was 2-2 with a 3.21 ERA and 32 strikeouts to nine walks for Camden. He held a 6.83 ERA in six starts for the Mets last season. He'll provide depth at Triple-A for the Braves but isn't likely to have any fantasy value.

Brian Lawrence will probably wait until spring training to return from the shoulder surgery that has sidelined him all season, according to the AP. He had been holding out hope that he could pitch at some point this year. "Right on schedule where I need to be, the strength's where I need to be. Best case, obviously, would be September, but pushing it is not going to help the Nationals or help me," Lawrence said. "You can come back too soon, but you can't come back too late."
