Boof Bonser, P, Boston Red SoxWednesday 3/3, 7:35 PM CT
Boof Bonser pitched a scoreless first fame in Wednesday's exhibition game with Boston College and earned the win.

Our View: Bonser landed with the Red Sox this offseason after missing all of 2009 with a shoulder injury. The former Twin is trying to make the club out of spring training, but will have to really impress to stay out of Triple-A. If he does make the club, he appears destined for a relief role, as the Red Sox are loaded with starters.
Boof Bonser, P, Boston Red SoxThursday 12/10, 9:06 AM CT
Boof Bonser has been acquired by the Boston Red Sox, according to Amalie Benjamin of the Boston Globe.

Our View: He was designated for assignment by the Twins on Tuesday. Though he's likely destined for Triple-A Pawtucket, he will probably be given a shot to make the club out of spring training. It is not yet known what Minnesota will receive in return. In 96 career games (60 starts), Bonser is 18-25 with a 5.12 ERA. He missed all of the 2009 season with a shoulder injury.
Boof Bonser, P, Boston Red SoxWednesday 12/9, 7:17 PM CT
Twins' GM Bill Smith noted that a few teams have inquired about hurler Boof Bonser, according to Kelsie Smith's (Pioneer Press) twitter page.

Our View: The Twins designated him for assignment Tuesday. The 28-year-old hurler missed the entire 2009 season while recovering from shoulder surgery, but it looks like he still has some value for Minnesota.
Boof Bonser, P, Boston Red SoxTuesday 12/8, 11:03 PM CT
Boof Bonser has been designated for assignment by the Twins, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: Bonser was moved to make room for Carl Pavano on the roster. Bonser missed the entire 2009 campaign after having shoulder surgery in spring training. The Twins have 10 days to trade, release, or outright the 28-year-old hurler to the minors.
Boof Bonser, P, Boston Red SoxTuesday 9/1, 11:03 AM CT
MLB.com is reporting that Twins' starter Boof Bonser isn't likely to pitch for the Twins this season. Bonser is just starting to face live hitters, and he is expected to pitch in the instructional league.

Our View: Boof has missed the entire season after shoulder surgery, and there is no point in rushing him back so he can make one or two starts in the last month. He needs to get completely healthy, and when he does he will be ready to go for next season.
Boof Bonser, P, Boston Red SoxWednesday 8/26, 10:27 AM CT
Twins' manager Ron Gardenhire told MLB.com that pitcher Boof Bonser is getting closer to facing hitters. Bonser has been out for the entire season after right shoulder surgery.

Our View: It sounds like the Boof is progressing nicely from the surgery, but he won't be an option for the Twins this season. Assuming his recovery continues to go well, he should be fine for spring training next year and he will be in line for a rotation spot.
Boof Bonser, P, Boston Red SoxFriday 8/7, 4:13 PM CT
Boof Bonser has been transferred to the 60-day DL by the Twins, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: He is out for the season following right shoulder surgery, so he won't hold any fantasy value again until 2010.
Boof Bonser, P, Boston Red SoxThursday 4/2, 11:01 AM CT
Boof Bonser has been placed on the 15-day DL by the Twins, according to the Sports Network.

Our View: Bonser underwent surgery on his right shoulder in late February to repair a torn labrum and rotator cuff, and was expected to miss six to eight months at that time. Bonser will not hold much fantasy value while working out of the bullpen when he returns.
Boof Bonser, P, Boston Red SoxWednesday 2/25, 5:02 PM CT
Arthroscopic surgery on Boof Bonser's throwing shoulder revealed a partial tear in his labrum, according to the AP. He has already undergone surgery to repair the problem and he will need 6-8 months to recover.

Our View: Bonser came out of the bullpen more than he started last season, and he was likely on schedule to do more of the same this season, although he's a better starter.
Boof Bonser, P, Boston Red SoxTuesday 2/24, 12:50 PM CT
Twins hurler Boof Bonser will have surgery Wednesday to try and find out why he is having soreness in his throwing shoulder, according to the Minneapolis Star Tribune.

Our View: Bonser will miss a minimum of two weeks due to this procedure, but it very well could be longer depending on what doctors find.
Boof Bonser, P, Boston Red SoxWednesday 2/18, 12:30 PM CT
Updating an earlier report, Boof Bonser threw 30 pitches today, according to the Star Tribune. He is dealing with tendinitis in his throwing shoulder, but will remain on his throwing program in hopes that the ailment will work its way out. His MRI revealed no structural damage in his shoulder.

Our View: If healthy, Bonser will be competing for the setup role through spring training.
Boof Bonser, P, Boston Red SoxWednesday 2/18, 7:46 AM CT
Boof Bonser has delayed throwing as he is dealing with tendinitis in his throwing shoulder, according to the Star Tribune. Manager Ron Gardenhire said, "Day to day. He is not throwing. He had an injection. He is doing all the other stuff. I have not gotten an update on when he will start his throwing program. All we have to do is calm down the inflammation in his shoulder. Which, through all the exercises and treatment that he is getting, is going to happen here pretty soon."

Our View: Bonser does not have a shot to return to the rotation, but the ailment could compromise his bid for the setup role.
Boof Bonser, P, Boston Red SoxMonday 2/16, 3:49 PM CT
Boof Bonser is dealing with tendinitis in his right shoulder and will not pitch until the ailment calms down, according to MLB.com. He tried to throw yesterday, but could not due to discomfort.

Our View: Bonser noted that the ailment is frustrating, and it could hinder his bid for the Twins' setup role in the bullpen.
Boof Bonser, P, Boston Red SoxSunday 2/1, 10:58 AM CT
The Boston Globe reports that the Twins may seek to trade Boof Bonser prior to opening day. The pitcher is out of options and the Twins do not currently have a spot open for him in their rotation.

Our View: He could be placed in their bullpen, but if the Twins wanted to place him back in their farm system, he would have to clear waivers, which seems unlikely. He had a disappointing 2008 season as he made 12 starts and finished with a 3-7 record to go with a 5.93 ERA and 1.48 WHIP. He still holds fantasy potential thanks to his 7.38 K/9 rate.
Boof Bonser, P, Boston Red SoxTuesday 12/9, 7:49 PM CT
Boof Bonser is drawing interest from several clubs at the Winter Meetings, according to the Pioneer Press.

Our View: The Twins' young pitching is very popular in general at the meetings and they may need to deal some of it to acquire infield help, especially now that Casey Blake has decided to re-sign with the Dodgers.
Boof Bonser, P, Boston Red SoxTuesday 9/16, 5:17 PM CT
Boof Bonser should be available to pitch on Tuesday despite straining his lower back on Saturday according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.

Our View: Bonsor has had mixed results since moving to the bull pen in June. In six September appearances, he has a 6.75 ERA.
Boof Bonser, P, Boston Red SoxMonday 9/15, 8:24 AM CT
Boof Bonser strained his lower back Saturday, but felt better overnight and played catch prior to Sunday's game, according to the Star Tribune.

Our View: He injured a muscle, not his spine, so the Twins are hopeful he will be ready to pitch again soon.
Boof Bonser, P, Boston Red SoxSunday 9/14, 2:17 PM CT
The Twins' team website reports Bonser is day-to-day with a strained lower back.

Our View: This is unlikely to impact many fantasy owners.
Boof Bonser, P, Boston Red SoxThursday 7/31, 11:15 AM CT
The Twins would like to trade Boof Bonser to make room on the roster for Francisco Liriano, according to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune. The Rangers and Giants could be interested.

Our View: The Rangers are always looking for pitching, and Bonser used to be in the Giants' organization. Bonser's value has plummeted this year, as he's held a 6.67 ERA in 26 games (12 starts).
Boof Bonser, P, Boston Red SoxWednesday 7/30, 10:31 PM CT
Boof Bonser may be spending his last night as a member of the Twins organization, according to the Star Tribune.

Our View: If the team is serious about promoting Francisco Liriano, Bonser would certainly be the logical choice to move considering he has been terrible this season with a 6.59 ERA and 1.53 WHIP.
Boof Bonser, P, Boston Red SoxSaturday 6/28, 9:25 PM CT
Boof Bonser worked two innings in relief of Livan Hernandez on Saturday night. Bonsor, who was moved to the bullpen earlier in the month, gave way to the return of Scott Baker to the rotation.

Our View: Bonser allwed one hit and one walk while striking out one in the Twins 5-1 loss to the Brewers.
Boof Bonser, P, Boston Red SoxTuesday 6/3, 9:51 AM CT
Boof Bonser has been moved to the bullpen, as the team prepares for the return of Scott Baker to the rotation, according to the Star Tribune. Baker completed his rehab assignment, and is expected to start on Thursday.

Our View: Bonser was 2-6 with a 5.97 ERA and 1.40 WHIP over 12 starts this season, and will be better suited for a limited bullpen role. He isn't likely going to be presented with any save opportunities, and his fantasy value remains in the cellar.
Boof Bonser, P, Boston Red SoxSaturday 5/31, 12:07 PM CT
With rumors of a pending move to the bullpen, in part to make room for returning starter Scott Baker and in part to stop a downward spiral of inept performance, Minnesota RHP Boof Bonser will be sent to the mound to start against the New York Yankees this evening, according to the Sports Network.

Our View: Bonser is 2-6 this season with a 6.16 ERA, but his performance against the Yankees has been especially worrisome, going 0-2 with a 9.31 ERA over his career. Manager Ron Gardenhire has avoided identifying Bonser as the odd man out for demotion or move when Baker returns, but the numbers suggest it would be the wise move to make.
Boof Bonser, P, Boston Red SoxWednesday 5/28, 8:16 AM CT
The Twins adjusted their rotation on Tuesday, moving Boof Bonser from Friday to Saturday. The news suggests Bonser will head to the bullpen, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports. Scott Baker is scheduled to come off the DL on Saturday.

Our View: Bonser has been awful lately. He probably won't like the move, but his big arm may end up playing well in a relief role.
Boof Bonser, P, Boston Red SoxTuesday 5/27, 8:05 PM CT
The Minnesota Twins report RHP Scott Baker is near ready to return to the team's starting rotation, and when he does, Boof Bonser is the likely man out of a job, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Manager Ron Gardenhire spoke with the press today, deciding to keep starter Glen Perkins in his normal schedule spot as the team's starting pitcher today while pushing Bonser's next start to Saturday. That puts Bonser and Baker on the same schedule, and while Gardenhire refused to comment on Bonser and a potential move, his 0-2 record and 9.59 ERA through five May starts may be too much to ignore.
Boof Bonser, P, Boston Red SoxSaturday 5/24, 9:25 PM CT
Boof Bonser fell to 2-6 Saturday with a horrendous performance against the Tigers, as he allowed a whopping nine runs on seven hits and two walks in three innings of work.

Our View: Boof has looked at times this year, and he hasn't been as bad as his record indicates, but inconsistency has been a problem.
Boof Bonser, P, Boston Red SoxMonday 5/19, 11:26 PM CT
Boof Bonser lasted 6.1 innings during which time he allowed four runs, three earned, as he walked none and struck out five in the no-decision.

Our View: Bonser allowed less than five runs for the first time in four starts on this evening and he has yet to be much more than an innings eater this season.
Boof Bonser, P, Boston Red SoxThursday 5/15, 8:41 PM CT
Boof Bonser was slow to warm on Wednesday night. For those who watched the game it was obvious that the right-hander was overthrowing, and losing break on his dynamite curve ball. Bonser allowed four of his five runs in the first inning on a Matt Stairs grand slam, but finished strong, walking three and striking out three in six innings of work.

Our View: For the year, batters are hitting .359 in Bonser's first 30 pitches and .219 after that point. Get the Boof out of the first two innings, and he's tough to beat.
Boof Bonser, P, Boston Red SoxWednesday 5/14, 10:32 PM CT
Boof Bonser allowed five runs on five hits, walked three and struck out three in his fifth loss of the season.

Our View: Bonser has allowed 17 runs in his past three starts and has twice allowed four or more runs in the first inning.
Boof Bonser, P, Boston Red SoxMonday 5/5, 7:43 PM CT
Boof Bonser gave up six runs in the first inning Sunday against Detroit but found out his team has the ability to bail him out, this according to the Minneapolis Star Tribune. While he pitched five shutout innings after the first, the Twins offense eventually got untracked against starter Kenny Rogers and carried it over to the Tigers bullpen. "That six-spot killed me,'' Bonser said, "I was just able to buckle down and throw six innings, give my team a chance. We pulled it off."

Our View: Bonser is better than he showed in the first against the Tigers on Sunday. His 2-4 record on the season is a bit decieving as his 4.29 ERA and 1.24 WHIP are acceptable American League numbers. Expect Bonser to carry over the five shutout innings into his next start against Jon Lester and Boston.
Boof Bonser, P, Boston Red SoxTuesday 4/29, 10:06 PM CT
Boof Bonser limited the White Sox to one run over seven inning Tuesday, giving up six hits and a walk while striking out eight in the process.

Our View: Bonser has pitched much better than his 2-4 record would indicate. He is safe to use in all formats.
Boof Bonser, P, Boston Red SoxWednesday 4/23, 11:31 PM CT
Boof Bonser permitted only two runs in six innings but still was saddled with his fourth loss of the season on Wednesday night.

Our View: Bonser hasn't pitched badly at all this season with a 4.34 ERA and 1.28 WHIP, so if you can pry him from a frustrated owner it would appear to be a move that you might want to make.
Boof Bonser, P, Boston Red SoxThursday 4/17, 11:04 PM CT
Boof Bonser who allowed six earned runs and seven hits in four innings, struggled all night before exiting with the bases loaded in the fifth. Bonser was disappointing after pitching six scoreless innings against the Royals on Saturday.

Our View: The Minnesota starter has struggled at home during his career, but his Thursday outing was one where he simply had no command of his curve ball.
Boof Bonser, P, Boston Red SoxSaturday 4/12, 8:58 PM CT
Boof Bonser went six strong inning allowing only three hits and no runs to the Royals to pick up his first victory of the season.

Our View: Perhaps all the weight that Bonser lost during the off-season really will help him this season, imagine that? Through 19 innings he has posted a 2.84 ERA with only two BB.
Boof Bonser, P, Boston Red SoxSaturday 4/12, 1:39 PM CT
Boof Bonser is set to take the hill today, but he notably has a poor track record against the Royals on the road, according to MLB.com. Over his career, Bonser is 1-2 with a 5.85 ERA in four appearances at Kauffman Stadium.

Our View: Bonser is off to an 0-2 start with a 4.15 ERA, and should be headed for another tough outing against the upstart Royals.
Boof Bonser, P, Boston Red SoxFriday 3/14, 10:09 PM CT
Boof Bonser bounced back nicely from a disappointment in his last outing to pitch four scoreless innings in the Twins’ 4-1 win over the split-squad Pirates today. Bonser allowed three hits and a walk, striking out three, and now sports a spring ERA of 3.00. Bonser has stated he hopes to pitch at least 200 innings this season, coming off an ’07 season in which he threw just 173 and went 8-12 with an ERA of 5.10. Adding an improving changeup to the menu of pitches seems to be helping, though it is a work in progress.
Boof Bonser, P, Boston Red SoxSunday 3/9, 10:47 PM CT
Boof Bonser had a dismal outing on the bump as he allowed three runs over three innings, with four walks. Bonser ended the 2007 season poorly and it has unfortunately followed him into 2008.
Boof Bonser, P, Boston Red SoxFriday 12/21, 7:52 AM CT
Boof Bonser has stepped up his conditioning this winter and has lost about 20 pounds, according to the Minneapolis Star Tribune. Fatigue was a problem for Bonser down the stretch in 2007; he recorded a 9.20 ERA over his final four appearances.
Boof Bonser, P, Boston Red SoxThursday 9/13, 11:17 AM CT
Boof Bonser has been removed from the Twins starting rotation, according to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune. "By no means are we giving up on Boof Bonser," Gardenhire said. "We love the guy. He's got three major league pitches. He competes. But it just looks like it's kind of flat right now. Take a step back, give another guy a shot, and that'll maybe make him more hungry when he gets to spring training." Bonser will work out of the bullpen for the time being, although Gardenhire did leave the door open for the right-hander to pick up another start over the last couple of weeks. Kevin Slowey will step into Bonser's rotation spot.
Boof Bonser, P, Boston Red SoxMonday 8/20, 9:10 AM CT
Boof Bonser has maintained his weight at around 260 pounds this season, but the Twins believe he might be better off shedding 10-15 pounds for next season. "It's not like his weight really fluctuates up and down; it stays the same," manager Ron Gardenhire said, according to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune. "He comes in and does all of his work, but if we got him down to a better weight, we'll see. We'll talk to him about it and see if that will help." Bonser has a 4.93 ERA and 1.51 WHIP this season and is currently in the midst of a 12-start winless streak.
Boof Bonser, P, Boston Red SoxFriday 5/18, 10:12 PM CT
Boof Bonser struck out a career-high 11 hitters and picked up his second win of the season during Friday's 8-1 victory over the Brew Crew.
Boof Bonser, P, Boston Red SoxSunday 3/18, 11:11 AM CT
Boof Bonser tossed four shutout innings Saturday and now has an 11-inning spring scoreless streak, according to the Star Tribune. Bonser's spring ERA is 2.25. Bonser is competing for a spot in the rotation but is expected to come away with the No. 4 spot.
Boof Bonser, P, Boston Red SoxMonday 3/12, 2:57 PM CT
Boof Bonser tossed four hitless innings Monday while striking out three. Bonser is technically in competition for a starting job this spring but figures to come away with a job unless he struggles big time.
Boof Bonser, P, Boston Red SoxWednesday 9/27, 9:46 AM CT
The Twins plan to start Boof Bonser in Game 2 of the ALDS, according to the Star-Tribune. He is 3-0 with a 2.39 ERA in his last four starts.
Boof Bonser, P, Boston Red SoxWednesday 8/9, 7:22 PM CT
The Twins recalled Boof Bonser from Triple-A Rochester to replace Francisco Liriano on the roster. Bonser threw seven strong innings in each of his last two starts for Rochester. He will slot into the Twins rotation in Liriano's spot and pitch on Saturday against the Blue Jays.
Boof Bonser, P, Boston Red SoxWednesday 8/2, 7:43 PM CT
After Boof Bonser was knocked around for seven runs in four innings in a spot start Wednesday, the Twins optioned him back to Triple-A Rochester, according to the AP. Mike Smith was recalled to replace Bonser, who started in place of the ailing Francisco Lariano.
Boof Bonser, P, Boston Red SoxWednesday 8/2, 2:22 PM CT
Boof Bonser was shelled in his spot start in place of Francisco Liriano on Wednesday. Bonser allowed six hits and seven runs - four earned - in four innings, though he did have five strikeouts.
Boof Bonser, P, Boston Red SoxWednesday 8/2, 12:11 PM CT
The Twins recalled Boof Bonser from Triple-A Rochester to start today against the Rangers, according to the St. Paul Pioneer Press. Bonser's stay could be a short one, as he is starting in place of Francisco Liriano and it's possible that Liriano could be healthy enough to make his next start.
