Chris Coste, C, New York MetsThursday 12/3, 3:40 PM CT
Chris Coste has been officially signed by the New York Mets, and placed on their 40-man roster, according to Bart Hubbuch of the New York Post.

Our View: He is not guaranteed a spot on the opening day roster, however. In 88 games between the Phillies and Astros last season, he hit .224 with two home runs and 18 RBI.

The New York Mets have signed catcher Chris Coste to a deal for the 2010 season, according to the Fargo-Moorhead Forum. Coste received a guarantee from the team that he will be on the 40-man roster, but he is not guaranteed a spot on the opening day roster.

Our View: Coste looks like a good fit for the Mets, as they have plenty of youth at the catching position right now. He struggled at the plate last season with a .224 average, so don't expect the 37-year-old to see much playing time with Omir Santos and Josh Thole both waiting in the wings.

Chris Coste has been outrighted to Triple-A Round Rock by the Astros, according to MLB.com.

Our View: The veteran catcher refused the outright assignment, and is a free agent. Coste only hit .224 with two homers over 205 at-bats in 2009.

The Houston Astros have claimed catcher Chris Coste off waivers from the Philadelphia Phillies, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: Coste hit .245 in 45 games for the Phillies this season. He will back up Ivan Rodriguez, though he could see more playing time than a normal back up, as Pudge has struggled of late.

The Marlins are believed to be interested in Phillies' catcher Chris Coste, according to the Sun Sentinel.

Our View: Carlos Ruiz will be the Phillies' No. 1 catcher, but the club wants to evaluate Ronny Paulino before considering dealing Coste. If Coste did land in Florida, he would compete for the No. 2 role behind John Baker. The Marlins like Ivan Rodriguez as well, but he may demand the starting job.

The Orioles have garnered interest in Phillies' catcher Chris Coste, according to MASN Sports.

Our View: The Orioles have engaged in trade talks but it is unknown what the Phillies would want in return. The Orioles need to replace Ramon Hernandez, and Coste would be a favorable choice as he hit .263 with nine homers over 98 games in 2008.
Chris Coste, C, New York MetsThursday 12/11, 8:11 AM CT
The Sun-Sentinel suggests that the Marlins could target Chris Coste after the Phillies traded for Ronny Paulino.

Our View: Coste flashed potential with the MLB champs in 2008, and would serve in a solid platoon with John Baker if brought to Florida.

Chris Coste will start at DH in Game 1 of the World Series for the Phillies, according to the AP.

Our View: Phillies manager Charlie Manuel wouldn't discuss who would be used at DH leading up to Game 1. Coste, who had more offensive upside than Carlos Ruiz this season, will now allow the Phillies to get the best of both worlds with his offense and Ruiz's defense.
Chris Coste, C, New York MetsTuesday 8/26, 11:54 PM CT
Chris Coste didn't start Tuesday, but he did plenty of damage. The catcher came on as a pinch hitter and ended up going 4-for-4 at the plate with the game-winning single.

Our View: Coste is a far superior offensive option than Carlos Ruiz, but he'll continue to share time with him.
Chris Coste, C, New York MetsFriday 8/22, 8:51 PM CT
Phillies catcher Chris Coste did plenty of damage in the team's 8-1 win over the Dodgers. Coste went 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBI to lead the way.

Our View: Coste has now hit just two home runs since June 28, and he has had a difficult August in terms of batting average, so recommending him for fantasy teams is tough.
Chris Coste, C, New York MetsSaturday 7/26, 6:30 PM CT
Philadelphia catcher Chris Coste went 3-for-4 with a double and drove in three runs in the Phillies win over Atlanta.

Our View: Coste was having an awful July, and his nine walks in nearly 180 at-bats are troubling, but you could do worse in NL-only fantasy leagues.
Chris Coste, C, New York MetsMonday 5/26, 10:24 PM CT
Phillies catcher Chris Coste was 4-for-6 in the team's 20-5 beat down of the Colorado Rockies on Monday night. One of Coste's hits was his fourth home run of the season.

Our View: Playing in his 30th game of the season Coste now has 13 RBI, 11 runs and raised his average from .329 to .341 with the four-hit performance.

The Phillies came up short in their 8-6 loss to the Atlanta Braves this evening, but catcher Chris Coste tried his best to improve the effort. Coste went 4-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored.

Our View: This is just the fourth game this season in which Coste has posted multiple hits, and his first this month.
Chris Coste, C, New York MetsFriday 4/25, 9:18 PM CT
Catcher Chris Coste recorded three hits and registered three RBI in Philadelphia's 6-5 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Friday night.

Our View: Coste, the backup for starter Carlos Ruis, has now played in 14 games this season. Friday's home run was his third of the year and the three-hit performance raised his April batting average to .406.
Chris Coste, C, New York MetsThursday 3/6, 3:17 PM CT
Catcher Chris Coste launched his first home run of the spring Thursday. The shot came in the second inning off Tampa starter James Shields. Coste was 1-for-2 with two RBI on the afternoon and is hitting .300 this spring.

Chris Coste is expected to begin the season on the disabled list, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. He's been limited to only 18 at-bats this spring due to a sore hamstring.
Chris Coste, C, New York MetsThursday 3/22, 8:44 AM CT
Chris Coste could return to action by the end of this week, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. He's been out of action since March 16 with a sore hamstring.
Chris Coste, C, New York MetsWednesday 12/20, 10:03 AM CT
Now that the Phillies have added Rod Barajas, Chris Coste is likely to have a limited role next season. Coste hit .328 with seven homers in 198 at-bats last season, but apparently the Phillies don't think he's legit - he hit .177 in 147 Triple-A at-bats last year. He could still make the team as a third catcher and backup first baseman, but he probably won't have much value unless the Phillies send Carlos Ruiz to the minors to start the season.
Chris Coste, C, New York MetsFriday 8/4, 9:25 AM CT
Chris Coste started at catcher for the fifth time in the last seven games Thursday, according to the Philadelphia Enquirer. Mike Lieberthal still has problems with his hip from time to time, which has allowed Coste to get the extra playing time. He has been taking advantage, hitting .571 (8-for-14) over his last four games, which includes a four-hit effort last night.
