Rodrigo Lopez, P, Philadelphia PhilliesWednesday 9/9, 10:15 AM CT
MLB.com's Todd Zolecki reports via Twitter that the Phillies have released right-hander Rodrigo Lopez.

Our View: Lopez was made expendable by the additions of Pedro Martinez and Cliff Lee, but give some credit to his 5.70 ERA and 1.77 WHIP in 30 innings this season. The Phils had no use for six starters, especially one as ineffective as Lopez has been lately.
Rodrigo Lopez, P, Philadelphia PhilliesSaturday 8/22, 9:09 AM CT
Despite the Phillies currently having six starting pitchers on their major league roster, they are expected to recall starter Rodrigo Lopez once rosters can be expanded in September, according to the Philadelphia Daily News.

Our View: Long reliever anybody? In seven games (five starts) for the Phils this season, Lopez accrued a 3-1 record and 5.70 ERA.
Rodrigo Lopez, P, Philadelphia PhilliesMonday 8/10, 3:38 PM CT
Rodrigo Lopez has been optioned to Triple-A Lehigh Valley, according to the team's Twitter page. The move was made to clear room for the activation of reliever Chad Durbin.

Our View: There was just no more room left in the Phillies pitching staff for Lopez after the acquisition of Cliff Lee and with Pedro coming up on Wednesday. Lopez was decent in his time as a starter, but the team is much better off where they are as a rotation now.
Rodrigo Lopez, P, Philadelphia PhilliesFriday 7/31, 12:04 AM CT
Rodrigo Lopez was hit with his first loss of the season on Thursday as the Phillies fell to the Giants by a score of 7-2. Lopez went four innings and allowed seven runs (three earned) on eight hits while walking two and striking out two.

Our View: Lopez is likely heading out of the rotation after the acquisition of Cliff Lee, and he didn't do anything tonight to make a case for himself. He will lose most, if not all, of his fantasy value if and when he is removed from the rotation, so fantasy owners should be prepared to find another option.
Rodrigo Lopez, P, Philadelphia PhilliesMonday 7/20, 9:04 PM CT
Rodrigo Lopez was in control from the hill in Monday's 10-1 win over the Cubs at Citizens Bank Park, as he only surrendered one earned run on five hits over six innings. He had three walks and five strikeouts.

Our View: Lopez continues to pitch well, as he allowed two or less earned runs in each of his four starts. He is worth penciling into fantasy lineups for as long as he has a spot in the Phillies' rotation.
Rodrigo Lopez, P, Philadelphia PhilliesFriday 7/17, 9:25 AM CT
According to the Philadelphia Daily News, Rodrigo Lopez (shoulder) will throw a side session on Saturday at Land Shark stadium in preparation for his return to the rotation on Monday.

Our View: Lopez says his shoulder feels fine and he looks like a good bet make the start against the Cubs on Monday, but he may not last long in the rotation. He could lose his spot as soon as recently acquired starter Pedro Martinez comes off the DL. Lopez is not really worth a fantasy roster at this point. At least until the uncertainty of the Phillies' rotation is resolved.
Rodrigo Lopez, P, Philadelphia PhilliesThursday 7/9, 6:26 PM CT
Rodrigo Lopez expects to make his next scheduled start in the Phillies' rotation after exiting his last outing after five innings with right shoulder inflammation, according to MLB.com.

Our View: The 33-year-old hurler intends to play catch Friday or Saturday, and is confident he will be ready for his next start. No tests have been performed on his ailing shoulder. The Phillies will next need a fifth starter on July 20.
Rodrigo Lopez, P, Philadelphia PhilliesWednesday 7/8, 9:47 PM CT
Rodrigo Lopez allowed two runs in five innings on Wednesday, but more importantly left after five innings with right shoulder inflammation.

Our View: Lopez has a long injury history, so this comes as little surprise. He has pitched well for the Phillies so far in '09, but isn't worth owning in any format because of his fragile nature.
Rodrigo Lopez, P, Philadelphia PhilliesFriday 7/3, 10:44 PM CT
Rodrigo Lopez earned his first win since 2007 on Friday night with a 7-2 victory over the Mets. He allowed just two earned runs on six hits and a walk over 6.2 innings.

Our View: Lopez was called up today to make the start, and he ended up making an impression as well. He's filling in for the injured Antonio Bastardo, but a few more starts like this and he could take Bastrado's job away from him.
Rodrigo Lopez, P, Philadelphia PhilliesFriday 7/3, 6:03 PM CT
According to the Associated Press, the Phillies have recalled pitcher Rodrigo Lopez from Triple-A.

Our View: Lopez will get the start on Friday night in place of the injured Antonio Bastardo. To make room for Lopez the Phillies designated Jack Taschner for assignment.
Rodrigo Lopez, P, Philadelphia PhilliesWednesday 7/1, 6:04 PM CT
Rodrigo Lopez will make the start for the Phillies on Friday, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: The 34-year-old Lopez hasn't pitched in the big leagues since 2007 with the Rockies. He is 5-4 with a 3.91 ERA at Triple-A Lehigh Valley this season. He is not a good spot starting option at this time.
Rodrigo Lopez, P, Philadelphia PhilliesTuesday 4/28, 11:29 PM CT
Rodrigo Lopez lowered his ERA to 2.70 for Triple-A Lehigh Valley by tossing five scoreless innings on Tuesday.

Our View: Yes, that Rodrigo Lopez. The former 15-game winner with the Orioles stands behind J.A. Happ, at the very least, in the Phillies' starting rotation depth chart.
Rodrigo Lopez, P, Philadelphia PhilliesSunday 3/8, 7:49 AM CT
Rodrigo Lopez has signed a minor league deal with the Phillies, according to the Denver Post. He will earn $650,000 if he makes the team.

Our View: He enjoyed some success with the Orioles earlier in his career, but he is coming off Tommy John surgery and is expected to merely serve as organizational depth with the Phillies.
Rodrigo Lopez, P, Philadelphia PhilliesFriday 8/22, 9:19 PM CT
The Atlanta Braves have signed pitcher Rodrigo Lopez, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The contract is for the rest of the season with an option for 2008. The right-hander underwent Tommy John surgery in 2007.

Manager Clint Hurdle told the Rocky Mountain News that "there's a good probability" Lopez will miss his scheduled start on Thursday. He left his last start due to the injury, but we'll have to wait for the MRI results before finding out his status for Thursday. Look for Jason Hirsh to get the nod if Lopez can't go.
Rodrigo Lopez, P, Philadelphia PhilliesFriday 7/27, 10:20 PM CT
Rodrigo Lopez is still experiencing soreness in his pitching arm a day after he was taken out of Thursday's game with tightness, according to the AP. The Rockies are leaning toward skipping Lopez's next turn in the rotation.

Our View: He's been a decent pickup for the Rockies this year, so being a little cautious is probably a good thing.

Rodrigo Lopez, P, Philadelphia PhilliesSaturday 5/26, 7:46 AM CT
Rodrigo Lopez remains on target to start Tuesday's game for the Rockies. He allowed two runs on four hits over 6 2/3 innings during his rehab appearance on Thursday, according to the Denver Post. "He was efficient with his pitches. His command was pretty good and he worked both sides of the plate," manager Clint Hurdle said. "We'll basically see how he feels and then decide." Lopez got off to a hot start this season, posting a 1.59 ERA and 1.00 WHIP over his first three starts, before being felled by elbow inflammation. He'll try to pick up where he left off.
Rodrigo Lopez, P, Philadelphia PhilliesMonday 5/21, 7:12 AM CT
Rodrigo Lopez allowed one run and no hits over 4 2/3 innings during his rehab outing on Saturday. He's slated to make another start on Thursday, according to the Rocky Mountain News. "His command was kind of in and out, but good enough that he only walked one in 4 2/3 innings," Rockies manager Clint Hurdle said. "It's scary," Lopez said. "We wanted seven days (between starts), and it didn't get better. So I'd say there's a 10 percent chance I would start (Monday in New York). I need to be 100 percent. If I am hurt, I am only hurting the team."
