John Rodriguez has agreed to a minor-league deal with the New York Yankees, according to the New York Post.

Our View: Rodriguez, a product of New York, was originally signed by the Yankees in 1996. He received a bulk of his major-league experience in St. Louis, where he batted .298 in 158 games between 2005-06.

The Mets have signed John Rodriguez to a minor-league deal and assigned him to Triple-A New Orleans, according to the NY Daily News.

Our View: Rodriguez hit .259 with six homers in 85 at-bats with Triple-A Durham in the Tampa Bay organization before inking the deal with the Mets. He'll provide depth for an outfield that has had its share of injury problems this year.

Coming via trade from St. Louis, Rodriguez fits the mold of the typical TB star on the rise: Find a roadblock on another team, get sent to Tampa where kids get a chance to shine on the main stage, and make good on the opportunity. The outfield in Tampa, beyond Carl Crawford, is a bit of a mess, thus J-Rod should have a shot to make noise.

He was forced to leave Sunday's game in the sixth inning with what was initially diagnosed as a moderate-to-severe sprain. "I just heard something pop," he said. "I didn't know what it was. It might have just been my ankle cracking."
