Lyle Overbay, 1B, Toronto Blue JaysTuesday 11/24, 9:57 PM CT
According to Jeff Blair on Twitter, a baseball source reports that it is a 90 percent certainty that Lyle Overbay will be dealt at the Winter Meetings.

Our View: Overbay stands to make $7 million next season and is nearly 33-years-old. Just because Toronto wants to unload him that doesn't mean it will be easy or cheap for them. He put up a disappointing 265/.372/.466 line last season and the Jays would likely have to eat some of his salary to find a taker.
Lyle Overbay, 1B, Toronto Blue JaysMonday 11/9, 10:25 AM CT
Lyle Overbay may soon be traded to the Arizona Diamondbacks, according to the Toronto Star.

Our View: The D-Backs lack depth at first base, while Toronto would like to shift Adam Lind there. Overbay made his major league debut with Arizona back in 2001. At age 32, he is a career .279 hitter in over 3,300 at-bats.
Lyle Overbay, 1B, Toronto Blue JaysWednesday 9/16, 10:19 PM CT
Lyle Overbay went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles in tonight's 5-4 loss at New York.

Our View: Overbay now reached at least 30 doubles for the sixth straight season. He has five hits over his last three games.
Lyle Overbay, 1B, Toronto Blue JaysWednesday 9/2, 11:09 PM CT
Lyle Overbay was productive in tonight's 6-4 loss at Texas, as he went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored. He hit a single and a solo homer off Tommy Hunter.

Our View: Overbay launched his 14th homer of 2009, and the 100th of his career. He has a hit in each of his last three games.
Lyle Overbay, 1B, Toronto Blue JaysTuesday 9/1, 10:51 PM CT
Lyle Overbay went 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI in Tuesday's 5-2 loss at Texas in the second game of their doubleheader.

Our View: Overbay ended a three-game skid without an RBI, and has 53 for 2009. He continues to perform well after batting .329 in August.
Lyle Overbay, 1B, Toronto Blue JaysSaturday 8/29, 10:02 PM CT
Lyle Overbay's ninth inning RBI single brought the Blue Jays within one of the Red Sox on Saturday night, but that would be as close as they would get in a 3-2 loss in Boston.

Our View: Overbay is still a respectable AL-only first baseman with a triple crown line of .274/13/52 in 2009.
Lyle Overbay, 1B, Toronto Blue JaysTuesday 8/11, 9:42 PM CT
Lyle Overbay performed well in tonight's 7-5 loss at New York, as he went 1-for-4 with a double and three RBI.

Our View: Overbay is hitting .380 over 21 at-bats this month, after holding an anemic .227 average in July. He is worth consideration for fantasy lineups right now.
Lyle Overbay, 1B, Toronto Blue JaysWednesday 7/29, 5:25 PM CT
The Blue Jays would reportedly like to trade Lyle Overbay prior to the July 31 deadline, according to FOX Sports.

Our View: Overbay is slated to earn $7MM in 2009 and 2010, and has a no-trade clause in his contract. The Giants were in the market for a corner infielder, but may no longer consider Overbay after adding Ryan Garko from Cleveland.
Lyle Overbay, 1B, Toronto Blue JaysFriday 7/17, 10:25 PM CT
Lyle Overbay went 3-for-4 with a double on Friday as the Blue Jays fell to the Red Sox by the score of 4-1. Overbay is now hitting .256 on the season.

Our View: Overbay has been decent this season, but he isn't a huge fantasy contributor, especially in the power category. He could be an option in AL-only leagues, but his production is probably not good enough for mixed league competition.
Lyle Overbay, 1B, Toronto Blue JaysMonday 7/6, 11:00 AM CT
Lyle Overbay is not in the Blue Jays' starting lineup for their Monday afternoon game against the Yankees. Overbay will be replaced by Kevin Millar at first base.

Our View: This looks like a routine day off for Overbay, but if anything surfaces about an injury we will let you know. He is hitting .260 this season with nine homers and 41 RBI, which are decent numbers for an Al-only league.
Lyle Overbay, 1B, Toronto Blue JaysSunday 6/21, 5:57 PM CT
Lyle Overbay led the Jays offensively in Sunday's 9-4 win at Washington, as he went 3-for-5 with five RBI. He had two singles and a solo homer off Shairon Martis.

Our View: Overbay now has 41 RBI for the season, with 18 coming so far in June. He was in need of a strong performance, as he only mustered two hits over his previous 23 at-bats.
Lyle Overbay, 1B, Toronto Blue JaysMonday 6/8, 2:40 PM CT
SLAM! Sports is reporting that Blue Jays' first baseman Lyle Overbay has been named the AL Player of the Week on Monday. Overbay finished the week 8-for-15 with two home runs and eight RBI.

Our View: Overbay was excellent last week, and he is well deserving of the award. He has pulled his average up to .302 on the year, and he is showing the ability to hit for power. AL-only owners should pick him up if he is available, and mixed leaguers may want to monitor him to see if he stays hot.
Lyle Overbay, 1B, Toronto Blue JaysFriday 6/5, 8:46 PM CT
Lyle Overbay led the Jays in Friday's 9-3 win over Kansas City at the Rogers Centre, as he went 2-for-3 with three RBI. He hit a solo homer and a double.

Our View: Overbay has a three-game hitting streak, with seven RBI over the span. Keep him active in fantasy lineups while he is hot.
Lyle Overbay, 1B, Toronto Blue JaysSaturday 5/9, 6:32 PM CT
Lyle Overbay was 2-for-3 with a homer and three RBI in the Blue Jays' 6-4 win against the A's on Saturday.

Our View: Overbay has five dingers this season now, but is only hitting .256 and loses at bats with an opposing lefty on the mound. He's a decent bat in AL-only leagues, but nothing further.
Lyle Overbay, 1B, Toronto Blue JaysSaturday 4/18, 5:00 PM CT
Lyle Overbay hit a game-winning, walk-off two-run homer in the bottom of the 12th inning on Saturday to give the surprising Blue Jays a 4-2 win. Overbay was 2-for-4 on the day.

Our View: Overbay has some pop in his bat, but isn't a great fantasy play as he loses at-bats with a lefty on the mound. He doesn't produce enough as a platoon player to generate any real fantasy buzz.
Lyle Overbay, 1B, Toronto Blue JaysSaturday 2/21, 6:31 PM CT
The Toronto Globe and Mail reports that first baseman Lyle Overbay will miss at least the first week of exhibitions after undergoing his second sports hernia surgery earlier this week.

Our View: This will certainly be a setback for Overbay, who does not project as a strong fantasy starter at his position. He hit .270 with 15 home runs and 69 RBI last season. he will now have to use this spring to get in shape as well as to get his game in order.
Lyle Overbay, 1B, Toronto Blue JaysWednesday 11/5, 10:02 AM CT
The Blue Jays would reportedly like to deal Lyle Overbay to the Mariners, and are willing to eat some of his salary, according to the Seattle Times.

Our View: The Mariners previously turned down a deal at the trade deadline involving Overbay and Jason Frasor for Raul Ibanez. It remains to be seen if the two sides can agree on a deal this time around.
Lyle Overbay, 1B, Toronto Blue JaysSunday 9/21, 10:58 PM CT
Lyle Overbay had some mild discomfort in his right hand that led to him being removed from the Jays game on Sunday, according to the Blue Jays Official Website. "Lyle's hand is a little sore, but it's nothing serious," manager Cito Gaston said. "He can probably play on Tuesday. It's a little weak. It's nothing big -- it's just a little weak.

Our View: Overbay, who had the hand broken in June of last season, is still trying to recapture the form that led to a .312-22-92 line in 2006 before the injury hit. He just hasn't been the same since.
Lyle Overbay, 1B, Toronto Blue JaysTuesday 9/9, 5:01 PM CT
Lyle Overbay went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI in Tuesday's win over the White Sox.

Our View: Overbay is hitting .294 with 13 doubles, eight homers, and 30 RBI in 48 games since the All-Star break. He may finally be getting over that hand injury that hindered him badly in 2007 and seemingly lingered into this season.
Lyle Overbay, 1B, Toronto Blue JaysSaturday 9/6, 4:46 PM CT
Lyle Overbay hit two solo home runs off of Rays' starter James Shields in Saturday's 7-4 extra-inning victory. He now has 14 home runs on the season.

Our View: Overbay is a very mediocre first baseman and should only be owned in deeper formats.
Lyle Overbay, 1B, Toronto Blue JaysSunday 8/31, 10:07 AM CT
Blue Jays first baseman Lyle Overbay simply cannot hit the team's opposing pitcher for Sunday's game, Andy Pettitte. Overbay is 2-for-24 (.083) in his career off the Yankees lefty.

Our View: With that type of past success against Pettitte, fantasy owners who have him, presumably in AL-only leagues, need to find a better option.
Lyle Overbay, 1B, Toronto Blue JaysFriday 8/22, 10:22 PM CT
First baseman Lyle Overbay couldn't help Toronto beat the Red Sox, but he gave a solid effort, as he picked up two hits, including his tenth home run.

Our View: Overbay is having a poor August, and for the season is hitting just .269. Not someone that belongs on fantasy teams.
Lyle Overbay, 1B, Toronto Blue JaysThursday 8/14, 3:18 PM CT
Lyle Overbay went 1-for-4 with a solo home run and registered the Jays' lone RBI in Thursday's 5-1 loss to the Tigers.

Our View: His homer was his ninth of the season, snapping a 12-game drought. He also ended a nine-game skid without an RBI.
Lyle Overbay, 1B, Toronto Blue JaysWednesday 7/30, 3:15 PM CT
Lyle Overbay went 1-for-3 with a two-run homer in Wednesday's 3-2 loss to the Rays.

Our View: Overbay notched his seventh homer of the season, snapping a 33-game drought.
Lyle Overbay, 1B, Toronto Blue JaysThursday 7/24, 3:54 PM CT
Lyle Overbay went 3-for-8 with three RBI in Thursday's doubleheader in Baltimore. He has a tidy nine game hitting streak going.

Our View: Overbay has been relatively hot since the All-Star break. Still, he has only one home run since May 30th and just 40 RBI in 337 at-bats. Fantasy champions will get a lot more power out of the first base position.
Lyle Overbay, 1B, Toronto Blue JaysThursday 7/24, 12:52 PM CT
Lyle Overbay was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored on Thursday against the Orioles. It was his eighth straight game with a hit.

Our View: Overbay is hitting .384 in his last 11 games but has only one home run since May 30th. He has 37 RBI in 329 at-bats.
Lyle Overbay, 1B, Toronto Blue JaysSaturday 5/31, 12:24 AM CT
Lyle Overbay went 3-for-5 with three RBI, and crushed two homers in Friday's 10-4 win over the Angels.

Our View: Four of his five homers have come in May, and he raised his season average to .282 following tonight's performance.
Lyle Overbay, 1B, Toronto Blue JaysThursday 5/22, 9:13 PM CT
The Toronto Blue Jays put a hard-fought 4-3 win on the LA Angels this evening, an effort led by first baseman Lyle Overbay . Overbay went 2-for-3 with a walk at the dish with his ninth double and third home run of the season.

Our View: Overbay had been struggling a bit through the early part of May, but this is his second home run in four games, a hopeful sign for the days ahead.
Lyle Overbay, 1B, Toronto Blue JaysSunday 5/18, 8:19 PM CT
Lyle Overbay had a pinch hit, three run homer for the Jays to lead the squad to a 6-5 victory over the Phillies.

Our View: Overbay hasn't been able to find much consistency this season, a year after he was derailed by injury. Overbay is getting on base at over a .370 clip, but he has only two home runs and 10 extra base hits in 45 games, scant production for a corner infielder.
Lyle Overbay, 1B, Toronto Blue JaysTuesday 5/6, 9:28 PM CT
Lyle Overbay went 2-for-2 with a double, one walk, and two RBI against the Rays on Tuesday. It was his first multi-hit effort in 10 games and just his five extra-base hit of the year.

Our View: Overbay continues to look nothing like the quality batsman who helped fantasy teams before breaking his right hand in 2007. We need to see a lot more efforts like Tuesday before we'll believe in him again.
Lyle Overbay, 1B, Toronto Blue JaysWednesday 4/23, 6:50 PM CT
Toronto 1B Lyle Overbay is out of action for the Blue Jays as they face the Tampa Bay Rays this evening, according to the Toronto Star.

Our View: Overbay turned his ankle in the Jays' 4-6 loss to Tampa Bay. The injury is not considered serious and Overbay is expected to start on Thursday (and may be available for duty as a pinch hitter this evening).
Lyle Overbay, 1B, Toronto Blue JaysFriday 4/18, 7:07 PM CT
Lyle Overbay right hand is no longer an injury concern, but he is still being held out of the Jays lineup on Friday night as the team is facing left-hander Kenny Rogers, this according to MLB.com. "He's been scuffling a little bit," manager John Gibbons acknowledged. "He's just pulling off the ball. He's got to stay on it and take it to left-center field. He's coming off it just enough where he's cutting across the ball and it's keeping him from driving the ball."

Our View: Overbay is hitting a pretty hollow .271 on the year, he has no home runs and only five RBI, but he will need to pick up the production to avoid being relegated to the bench against certain hurlers.
Lyle Overbay, 1B, Toronto Blue JaysTuesday 2/26, 7:37 PM CT
Lyle Overbay said he should know soon whether his right hand, which was broken last June, is completely healed, according to the AP. "I think these next 2-3 weeks will tell," Overbay said Tuesday. "With the vibration it might flare up a bit, but that is expected. My strength is there, so it’s just a matter of making sure it doesn’t flare up too much." So far, he's had no problems with his hand, though he has missed the past couple of days of camp due to a stomach ailment.
Lyle Overbay, 1B, Toronto Blue JaysSaturday 2/23, 10:36 PM CT
Lyle Overbay tested his recovering right hand on Saturday, and according to the positive results, all systems are a go for the spring training schedule. According to the team website, it has been nothing but good news on the Overbay front. "I don't see anything. He looks like the old guy," skipper John Gibbons said after Saturday's practice session. Overbay's 2006 campaign is what the Jays need if the team is to compete in a tough AL East. The lefty hit .312 with 22 home runs, 46 doubles and 92 RBIs over 157 games.

Lyle Overbay didn’t start on Thursday because of a dizzy spell in his hotel room that caused him to fall and hit his head against a chair. "I feel fine," Overbay told MLB.com. "I got up this morning and felt a little light-headed. I kind of sat down back on my bed and next thing I knew I was face-planted into the carpet. I hit the chair on the way down. It was just a combination of probably being dehydrated and it was about 100 percent humidity yesterday." Overbay isn’t clumsy, he’s been battling dizzy spells for many years, although tests have ruled out serious ailments like seizures. He says he is feeling fine now and should be ready to take the field this weekend.

Matt Stairs will likely get the bulk of the playing time at first while Overbay is out.
Lyle Overbay, 1B, Toronto Blue JaysSunday 6/3, 3:29 PM CT
Lyle Overbay had to exit Sunday's game with a wrist injury. After getting hit by a pitch in the third inning, Overbay stayed in the game to run the bases, but he was replaced by Matt Stairs in the top of the fourth, according to the AP. It's not clear as to the seriousness of the injury.
