Joaquin Benoit, P, Texas RangersTuesday 8/18, 11:53 AM CT
According to MLB.com, Rangers' pitcher Joaquin Benoit threw his first bullpen session since his rotator cuff surgery on Monday. Benoit threw 30 fastballs before shutting it down for the day.

Our View: Benoit is not expected to pitch for the Rangers this season, and he will be a free agent when the year is over. Benoit will try to catch on somewhere next season, but it might be tough since he hasn't pitched since 2008.

Joaquin Benoit, on the 60-day disabled list as he recovers from shoulder surgery, is exercising but has not yet begun a throwing program, according to the Dallas Morning News.

Our View: Benoit underwent the surgery in January. There's currently no timetable for his return, but he's expected to miss at least the entire first half. Even when he does return, he'll have little value working out of Texas' bullpen.

Joaquin Benoit was placed on the 60-day DL by the Rangers, according to TSN. He underwent surgery on his right shoulder to repair a torn rotator cuff in late-January.

Our View: Benoit will miss half of the season while recovering, and is not worth holding on fantasy rosters as a middle reliever.

Joaquin Benoit underwent surgery on his right shoulder to repair a torn rotator cuff yesterday in Cincinnati, according to the Star-Telegram.

Our View: The reliever isn't expected to be ready to return to the hill until the second half of the season at the earliest. If healthy, he would have competed for a setup role in the Rangers' pen during spring training.
Joaquin Benoit, P, Texas RangersWednesday 12/10, 7:35 AM CT
The Twins may pursue a trade for Rangers' reliever Joaquin Benoit, according to BaseballProspectus.com.

Our View: Benoit suffered through a disappointing 2008 campaign due to a shoulder ailment, but could bounce back with Minnesota, as he held a solid 1.17 WHIP in 2007.
Joaquin Benoit, P, Texas RangersSunday 9/14, 8:51 AM CT
Benoit expects to pitch next weekend despite continued soreness in his throwing shoulder, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.

Our View: Benoit says that he will be ready to return, but the Rangers really have no reason to risk him. Benoit has been dealing with the shoulder injury all season, which is probably why he has a 5.00 ERA and 35 walks in 45 innings.
Joaquin Benoit, P, Texas RangersSaturday 9/13, 10:01 AM CT
Joaquin Benoit is out indefinitely because of renewed shoulder soreness, according to the Dallas Morning News. He missed a month with shoulder inflammation earlier this year.

Our View: Expect the Rangers to shut the righty down for the remainder of the season.
Joaquin Benoit, P, Texas RangersWednesday 8/6, 11:18 AM CT
Joaquin Benoit will be activated from the DL to replace the injured C.J. Wilson on the roster, according to the AP. Wilson is headed for the DL due to bone spurs in his left elbow.

Our View: Benoit shouldn't be much of a fantasy factor as a reliever, as he holds a 5.60 ERA and 1.73 WHIP over 35.1 innings this season. Eddie Guardado will be taking over Wilson's role as the closer.
Joaquin Benoit, P, Texas RangersSaturday 7/5, 3:27 PM CT
The Rangers have placed Joaquin Benoit on the 15-day DL due to a sore right shoulder, the Dallas Morning News reports. The reliever has been battling the injury for most (if not all) of the season.

Our View: The injury helps explain Benoit's bad ERA and awful WHIP. He doesn't have any fantasy value, but a healthy Benoit can be a late-inning factor for the Rangers.
Joaquin Benoit, P, Texas RangersWednesday 6/25, 8:54 AM CT
Joaquin Benoit gave up a two-run home run and two additional base runners while getting just one out in his relief appearance on Tuesday.

Our View: Better results are expected of Benoit, but he has struggled all season. He has a 6.10 ERA to go with 25 walks in 31 innings.
Joaquin Benoit, P, Texas RangersWednesday 6/18, 7:28 PM CT
The Rangers report RHP Joaquin Benoit will be be available for use in their current series against the Atlanta Braves, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Benoit, the Rangers 2007 Pitcher of the Year, hasn't appeared in a game since June 7 against the Rays. He'll throw a light session in the bullpen on Thursday in the hopes of being ready on Friday.
Joaquin Benoit, P, Texas RangersWednesday 6/18, 10:30 AM CT
Joaquin Benoit threw 35 pitches in a bullpen session on Tuesday, which was his first time on the mound in a week, the Dallas Morning News reports. He is dealing with right shoulder soreness.

Our View: We're not sure why the Rangers haven't placed Benoit on the DL at this point, as he hasn't appeared in a game since June 7. Anyway, he's not much of a fantasy asset.
Joaquin Benoit, P, Texas RangersFriday 6/13, 7:06 PM CT
According to the Rangers team website the staff is discussing the possibility of placing pitcher Joaquin Benoit on the disabled list. The hard-throwing right-hander is experiencing soreness in his right shoulder. The Rangers will have to make a move on Saturday because they plan on calling up Kason Gabbard to start against the Mets.

Our View: The team will move Doug Mathis to the bullpen and according to the report the logical move would be to drop middle reliever Robinson Tejeda.
Joaquin Benoit, P, Texas RangersSaturday 5/17, 5:39 PM CT
Joaquin Benoit earned his seventh hold of the season on Friday by setting down the side in the eighth inning. The right-hander has held opponents scoreless in seven of his eight appearances in May.

Our View: The Rangers success in the first half of the month has benefited owners who stuck with the Rangers hard-thrower.
Joaquin Benoit, P, Texas RangersFriday 4/25, 11:16 PM CT
Joaquin Benoit pitched a scoreless ninth in Texas' 6-5 win over Minnesota on Friday night.

Our View: The win is Benoit's second of the season.
Joaquin Benoit, P, Texas RangersSaturday 4/19, 9:17 PM CT
Joaquin Benoit picked up the loss and his second blown save of the season by allowing three runs in an inning of work on Saturday.

Our View: Things have not gone as planned in the Rangers pen in the early going as Benoit has posted a 1.97 WHIP over his first 6.1 innings. Benoit's status is slipping in the bullpen hierarchy, and it could fall further with the impending return of Eddie Guardado.
Joaquin Benoit, P, Texas RangersThursday 4/10, 8:17 PM CT
Joaquin Benoit struck out three of the four batters he faced in the eighth inning of Thursday's 3-1 win over the Orioles. Benoit replaced starter Kevin Millwood and gave way to closer C.J Wilson in the ninth.
Joaquin Benoit, P, Texas RangersWednesday 3/12, 4:19 PM CT
Joaquin Benoit threw a bullpen session Wednesday and will pitch in a minor league game Saturday, according to the Dallas Morning News. How Benoit fares this weekend could go a long way in determining whether his sore shoulder will allow him to be ready for opening day.
Joaquin Benoit, P, Texas RangersTuesday 3/11, 10:33 PM CT
While the Rangers expect Joaquin Benoit to toss a bullpen session Wednesday and hope he can take part in spring games by this weekend, there's rising doubt about whether he'll be over his sore right shoulder by opening day, according to MLB.com. "We think he's getting there, but it has been slow in coming," Rangers pitching coach Mark Connor said. "My hope is he'll still get his eight innings and be ready for spring training and be ready for opening day, but I have to go according to what he says. If he's not ready to pitch, I have to go with that." A healthy Benoit could end up closing games if expected closer C.J. Wilson isn't over his own ailment. However, Kazuo Fukumori is healthy, pitching great and making his own case to fill in for Wilson.
Joaquin Benoit, P, Texas RangersMonday 3/10, 11:32 PM CT
Joaquin Benoit, who hasn't pitched an inning this spring due to a sore throwing shoulder, threw 15 pitches in a simulated game on Monday and reported no problems, this according to MLB.com. Benoit still needs to build up arm strength which means he could still be a week away from pitching in a game.
Joaquin Benoit, P, Texas RangersSunday 3/2, 6:14 PM CT
Joaquin Benoit is about “10 days behind” the other Rangers pitchers, pitching coach Mark Conner told the AP. Benoit is not injured, but he skipped winter ball for the first time in his career and is still trying to strengthen his arm. He had a bullpen session Sunday. “It was good. I was more in the strike zone, more consistent,” Benoit said. “I’m building up. It’s something that is not going to take the whole year.” Benoit is a candidate to close for the Rangers, so it would behoove him to get into game action as soon as possible.
Joaquin Benoit, P, Texas RangersThursday 11/1, 10:49 AM CT
The Rangers inked Joaquin Benoit to a two-year, $6 million deal on Wednesday evening, according to the Dallas Morning News. "It's something I really wanted to get done," Benoit said by phone from the Dominican Republic. "This really means a lot to me to know that they want me. I'm excited to be here." Benoit has indicated he'd like a chance to close in 2008, but that will depend on the status of Akinori Otsuka, who dealt with many arm issues this year, and how the team wants to use C.J. Wilson.
