Colby Lewis, P, Texas RangersTuesday 1/19, 6:07 PM CT
According to MLB.com, recently signed right-hander Colby Lewis will be in the Rangers 2010 starting rotation.

Our View: The Rangers gave Lewis a two-year, $5 million deal last week and they are banking on him repeating the dominance he displayed in Japan over the last two seasons. His 6.71 career ERA in 71 major league appearances certainly leaves something to be desired though, so monitor his progress in spring training if you're thinking about targeting him as a sleeper.

According to MLB.com, the Rangers and right-hander Colby Lewis have agreed on a two-year contract. Financial details are currently not available.

Our View: Lewis has spent the last two seasons in Japan, but pitched effectively winning 11 games in 2009 and 15 in 2008. He was a strikeout machine and posted an ERA under 3.00 in both seasons, making him a fine candidate to compete for a spot in the Rangers rotation this year.

The Rangers are interested in signing former major league pitcher Colby Lewis, according to MLB.com. He has spent the past two seasons in Japan.

Our View: Lewis was dominant in Japan, going 11-9 with a 2.96 ERA for Hiroshima of the Central League in 2009 after going 15-8 with a 2.68 ERA and 183 strikeouts in 178 innings in 2008. Originally drafted by the Rangers in 1999, Lewis last appeared in the major leagues in 2007 as a member of the A's. In 217.1 career innings, he has a 6.71 ERA. Stay tuned.

The Royals claimed Colby Lewis off waivers from the A's on Friday, according to the AP. Lewis made 26 appearances (one start) in 2007, and he'll likely figure into Kansas City's bullpen next year, although it's also possible they'll consider giving him a look in the rotation.

Colby Lewis will move to the bullpen for the A's rather than be sent back to Triple-A. Lenny DiNardo is going to start Tuesday's game in place of Lewis, who was just called up on Tuesday, according to the Contra Costa Times . "Colby did a great job at Triple-A," manager Bob Geren said. "He can balance the bullpen a little bit. ... He has a powerful arm. If he can get three or four guys out, he might be able to let it go and pitch more than one inning." In his spot start Tuesday, Lewis lasted just 3 1/3 innings and was charged with 10 runs. Maybe he'll gain some confidence pitching in a relief role for a while.

Colby Lewis will be called up from Triple-A Sacramento to start Tuesday's game against the White Sox, manager Bob Geren told the AP. "Our Triple-A staff said he's thrown very well," Geren said. "He has pretty good command and he has big league experience. They felt he was pitching the best and would be the right guy."
