Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersFriday 10/2, 12:04 PM CT
Hank Blalock told MLB.com that he knows he will not be returning to the Rangers next season. Blalock has played his entire 10-year career with the Rangers' organization, but the team has no room for him on next year's roster.

Our View: The Rangers appear set with both outfielders and corner infielders for next season, so there is no reason to try to bring Blalock back. He ha struggled at the plate this season with a .235 average, but he did manage to hit 25 homers and drive in 66 runs. He shouldn't hve too much trouble finding work next season.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersThursday 9/24, 12:21 AM CT

Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersWednesday 9/2, 4:06 PM CT
Hank Blalock is penciled into tonight's lineup against Toronto, according to the Star-Telegram.

Our View: Chris Davis will cover third base with Michael Young out with a hamstring injury. Young will miss 2-3 weeks, so Blalock should see regular playing time over that span.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersTuesday 8/25, 7:04 PM CT
Hank Blalock has been notified that he will serve in a backup role for the stretch run of the season after the Rangers recalled corner infielder Chris Davis from the minors, according to the Star-Telegram.

Our View: Blalock holds a poor .238 batting average, and skipper Ron Washington apparently believes he can help the team more as a reserve than a starter. His fantasy stock takes a hit, while slugger Davis' rises.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersThursday 8/20, 8:30 PM CT
Rangers' skipper Ron Washington noted that he may give Hank Blalock a day off Friday while struggling at the plate, according to MLB.com. Washington said, "I will see how I feel tonight and tomorrow, when I start messing around with the lineup."

Our View: Blalock is only batting .164 over 73 at-bats this month, and may be struggling due to fatigue. Andruw Jones would likely serve in the DH role Friday if Blalock gets the day off to rest.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersSaturday 8/8, 6:49 PM CT
Hank Blalock provided all the offense for the Rangers on Saturday, going 2-for-4 with a homer and two RBI in the 3-2 loos to the Angels.

Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersSunday 7/12, 8:31 PM CT
Hank Blalock was 2-for-4 and crushed his 19th homer of the season in a 5-3 loss to the Mariners on Sunday.

Our View: Blalock's power has blossomed recently. His highest home run total for any month this season is six, but he already has five in July. He's also hitting .372 this month. If you've got him, play him while he's hot because it won't last forever.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersThursday 7/9, 11:49 PM CT
Hank Blalock went 2-for-3 with a pair of singles in tonight's 3-1 loss at Seattle.

Our View: The Rangers only mustered three hits in the game. Blalock has a hit in four straight games, and is batting .406 (13-for-32) so far in July.

Our View: Blalock now has 16 homers, and should remain a solid source for power if fantasy owners can deal with his poor .245 batting average.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersFriday 6/26, 11:55 PM CT
Hank Blalock helped lead the Rangers in tonight's 12-2 win over the Padres at home, as he went 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. He hit a solo homer and a single.

Our View: Blalock snapped an eight-game drought without a homer, and has 14 for the season. He should remain a solid source for power, but his .246 batting average leaves a bit to be desired.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersFriday 6/12, 11:34 PM CT
Hank Blalock went 1-for-4 with a solo homer off Hiroki Kuroda in Friday's 6-0 win over the Dodgers at Rangers Ballpark.

Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersSaturday 5/23, 2:23 PM CT
Hank Blalock will start Saturday's game at Houston at third base, according to the Star-Telegram. Michael Young is unable to play due to his foot injury.

Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersSunday 5/10, 4:03 PM CT
Hank Blalock launched two homers on Sunday as the Rangers beat the White Sox 7-1. Blalock finished the game 2-for-4 with the two homers, two runs, and two RBI.

Our View: Blalock now has nine homers on the year and is on fire as of late. He is a strong play in all leagues, and while he won't stay this hot all year he should finish with very quality numbers.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersSunday 5/3, 12:16 AM CT
Hank Blalock went 2-for-4 with four RBI in Saturday's 9-6 win over Chicago at Rangers Ballpark. He hit a double and a three-run homer.

Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersTuesday 4/14, 4:10 PM CT
According to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Hank Blalock was given an injection to help relieve his stiff neck on Monday night. Blalock hopes to be able to play Tuesday night.

Our View: Stay tuned for updates on Blalock's condition. It doesn't appear to be anything to worry about, and I would expect Blalock to be back at his usual DH spot soon.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersMonday 4/13, 8:54 PM CT
Hank Blalock was supposed to get the start at first base on Monday, but a stiff neck caused him to be scratched 30 minutes prior to the game, according to MLB.com. Chris Davis will start again at first base.

Our View: Seems to us that Blalock backed out of his defensive duties for tonight. Don't expect the stiff neck to last very long and he figures to be back at DH soon. However, if Chris Davis' struggles continue, the Rangers may want to get Blalock in at first base more often.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersSaturday 4/11, 2:57 PM CT
Hank Blalock belted his second homer of the year in the Rangers' loss to the Tigers Saturday. He is hitting .286 with five RBI so far to go along with the two bombs.

Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersMonday 4/6, 4:10 PM CT
Hank Blalock was 2-for-4 with a home run, three RBI, and two runs scored as Texas beat Cleveland 9-1 on Monday.

Our View: Blalock hit fifth in the order as the Rangers' DH. He figures to see a lot of time in that role this season, and it should help him stay healthy. He played in just 65 games a year ago due to a variety of ailments.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersTuesday 3/17, 11:02 AM CT
Hank Blalock is not in today's lineup against Cleveland while still dealing with tightness in his left quadriceps, according to the Star-Telegram.

Our View: The team indicated that Blalock would not be missing time if this was the regular season, and they just want to be cautious with him right now.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersSunday 3/15, 9:15 PM CT
MLB.com reports that Hank Blalock left Sunday's game with a tight left quadriceps, but he is not expected to miss any time.

Our View: The DH is having a solid spring with 10 hits in 33 at-bats, including five extra base hits. He will have eligibility at both infield spots in most leagues, but he'll rarely start outside of the DH slot.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersWednesday 2/25, 6:25 PM CT
Hank Blalock had a good day on Wednesday, going 2-for-3 with a triple, a home run, and two RBI. He also scored a pair of runs.

Our View: Blalock was at DH on Wednesday. He'll be transitioning to first base this year from third base.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersMonday 1/5, 10:47 AM CT
MLB.com reports that speculation surrounds whether the Texas Rangers will trade Hank Blalock for much needed pitching. Reportedly, the Giants, Angels, and Orioles are potential suitors for Blalock because of a need for a corner infielder.

Our View: Blalock's power numbers have dropped off significantly the last two seasons, primarily because of injury. After hitting 16 home runs and driving in 89 runs in 2006, Blalock has played in just 123 games the last two years, hitting 22 home runs in that span.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersSunday 12/7, 3:08 PM CT
The Texas Rangers and San Francisco Giants have discussed a Hank Blalock for Jonathan Sancez deal, according to MLB.com.

Our View: The Rangers, as usual, are looking for pitching, and while the Giants have a number of quality arms, they are lacking in offense.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersFriday 11/7, 6:17 PM CT
The Rangers exercised their option on Hank Blalock for $6.2 million on Friday, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: This move was expected, but should be a good one for the Rangers. Blalock comes relatively cheap for the production he can bring, even though he missed a lot of time in 2008. The Rangers don't intend to play him at third base next season. They will likely move him to first instead.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersThursday 11/6, 9:00 AM CT
The Rangers are expected to exercise Hank Blalock's $6.2 million option for 2009, according to the Dallas Morning News.

Our View: The team does not intend to play him at third base, however. They are expected to talk to free agent Casey Blake, but will likely be out of their price range.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersWednesday 10/1, 10:05 AM CT
Hank Blalock's $6.2 million option in 2009 will "almost certainly" be picked up by the Rangers, according to the Dallas Morning News.

Our View: The team has 10 days after the World Series to either pick up the option or let him enter free agency. It is unlikely he will work at third base and Chris Davis is considered a superior fielder at first base. Blalock could serve as a DH, but Milton Bradley could occupy that position as well. After picking up the option, the Rangers could opt to trade him for pitching help.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersMonday 9/29, 4:05 PM CT
MLB.com reports that Hank Blalock shared the American League's Player of the Week honor with Tampa Bay's Ben Zobrist. Blalock hit .400 (10-22) with three doubles, four home runs and nine RBIs last week, and hit a home run in five straight games from Sept. 21 through Friday.

Our View: Blalock was healthy for a mere 65 games in 2008, but he should be a starter again in 2009. He will have eligibility at both third base and first base but will remain a bit of an injury risk. In the past two seasons he has combined to play just 123 games.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersSaturday 9/27, 11:12 PM CT
On Saturday night, Hank Blalock was 1-for-5 in the Rangers' 8-4 win over the Angels. The only thing was, the one hit wasn't a home run. Blalock had hit a home run in five straight games coming into Saturday night.

Our View: Blalock missed most of the 2008 season with an injury but with the recent surge of power after coming back, he will be somebody watch in spring training.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersWednesday 9/24, 4:44 PM CT
Hank Blalock continued a tremendous week on Wednesday against Oakland. He hit his 11th home run of the season and tallied four RBI and two runs against the A's staff.

Our View: Blalock is 13-for-20 in his last five games. In that stretch he has four home runs, 11 RBI and eight runs. He appears to be on his way to an AL Player of the Week award. He has missed the majority of 2008 and many were concerned about his lack of power. This recent stretch should confirm that his power should be back in 2009.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersMonday 9/22, 11:09 PM CT
Hank Blalock had another big night at the plate producing three hits and two runs, with one of his hits being a ninth inning home run off of the A's Brad Ziegler to send the game into extra innings (the Rangers lost 4-3 in 11).

Our View: Blalock has a hit in each of his last four games during which time he has gone 10-for-18 (.556) with two home runs and seven RBI. Hopefully you have him active for the final week of the '08 campaign cause he is smoking right now.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersSunday 9/21, 5:14 PM CT
Hank Blalock had two hits on Sunday, one being a 3-run home run, his eighth home run of the season for the Rangers.

Our View: Blalock continues to stroke it at the plate hitting .314 with four home runs and 14 RBI over 17 September games. Blalock has proven he can be a big time run producer, his problem has been being able to stay out of the doctor's office.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersSaturday 9/20, 11:13 PM CT
Hank Blalock went 4-for-4 with an RBI in Saturday's 7-3 loss to the Angels. He hit two doubles and two singles.

Our View: Blalock has recorded a hit in 14 of 17 games in September, with 11 RBI over the span. He should remain active in AL-only league lineups for the final week of the season.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersFriday 9/12, 12:01 AM CT
Hank Blalock hit his sixth home run of the year on Thursday night as he scored two runs and posted a single RBI for the Rangers.

Our View: Since returning from the DL in August, Blakock has struggled a bit hitting just .250 with two home runs and six RBI over 19 games, though he does have a hit in 16 of those 19 games despite the low average. He'll need a big finish to prove he is worthy of a starting gig next year.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersFriday 8/22, 4:26 PM CT
Hank Blalock has made his way back to the Rangers after completing his rehab assignment, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. He will hit fifth in the order and play first base.

Our View: When healthy, Blalock can certainly contribute to fantasy squads, especially those in AL-only leagues. He is currently hitting .273 with four home runs and 15 RBI. Expect better production now that his shoulder issues seem to be a thing of the past.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersThursday 8/21, 11:16 AM CT
Hank Blalock is on pace to return to the Rangers' lineup Friday after playing in the third game of a rehab assignment for Double-A Frisco on Wednesday, according to the Star-Telegram.

Our View: As previously stated, Blalock is expected to work at first base with Chris Davis moving to third. Blalock had two hits in each of the first two games of his rehab stint, and is worth fantasy consideration in deeper leagues when he returns.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersSunday 8/17, 10:25 PM CT
The Rangers have announced the team's corner infielders will be switching places as Chris Davis will move to third base and Hank Blalock is going to first upon his return to the active lineup, which could be as early as Friday against Cleveland, according to the Dallas Morning News.

Our View: Blalock's shoulder is the reason for the flip-flop. Blalock talked to manager Ron Washington and general manager Jon Daniels on Sunday and said his shoulder isn't progressing enough for him to realistically expect to play third base this season. So to get Blalock in the lineup, the Rangers asked Davis to move to the left side of the infield, where he played in 2007.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersFriday 8/15, 4:58 PM CT
Hank Blalock will take tomorrow off from workouts in the infield and then resume with two straight days of throwing, according to the Dallas Morning News. If he doesn't have any setbacks, Blalock, who is coming back from right shoulder inflammation, would go out on a rehab assignment Tuesday or Wednesday.

Our View: It sounds like Hank could return by next weekend if all goes well. We'll track his progress for you.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersTuesday 8/12, 8:34 PM CT
Hank Blalock may not be coming off the disabled list as soon as he anticipated, but the Rangers are hoping he'll be able to return to the lineup on Monday against the Tigers, according to MLB.com. Blalock went through a rigorous workout on Tuesday at Fenway Park, throwing from third to first, and to second base on the around-the-horn double play. The shoulder held up under those controlled conditions. He also started taking batting practice, yet the team has held him out and continues to stress the health of his arm.

Our View: The hope was to see Hank in tonight versus Boston, but inflammation in his right shoulder continues to be a problem. While Blalock was hoping to avoid it, he'll have to make a two or three day stop in Double-A Frisco on medical rehabilitation assignment and show the Rangers that he's ready to play third base again. Earlier this season he missed more than 2 1/2 months because of a torn left hamstring muscle and right wrist surgery, then developed the shoulder inflammation in just a week after being activated off the disabled list at the All-Star break. The Rangers had been planning to move Blalock to first base, but now are determined to leave him at third because of the presence of Chris Davis. They also want to make sure the shoulder is strong enough to play the position.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersThursday 8/7, 3:59 PM CT
Hank Blalock, who remains on the DL with right shoulder inflammation, hopes to be back with the Rangers when they head to Boston to battle the Red Sox next week, according to the Star-Telegram. He said, "My swing feels good, I feel strong, and my body feels good."

Our View: He hit off a tee Wednesday, and is eligible to be activated Wednesday.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersWednesday 7/30, 8:54 PM CT
Hank Blalock is currently on the DL due to inflammation in his right shoulder but he stated on Wednesday that he wanted to remain a third baseman, according to MLB.com. "I'm going to keep trying to play third base to the best of my ability," Blalock said. "Hopefully, I'll be ready to go when the 15 days are up."

Our View: Blalock offered to shift to first base when the team needed a bat there, but the emergence of rookie slugger Chris Davis has made that a moot point. Blalock just needs to stay healthy at this point of his career, and given the trouble he has had staying healthy a move back to third base probably wouldn't help him to keep his bat in the lineup.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersTuesday 7/29, 4:52 PM CT
Rangers third baseman Hank Blalock has been placed on the 15-day disabled list because of a sore right shoulder, according to TexasRangers.com.

Our View: The oft-injured Blalock has yet another malady to recover from. This will certainly quell the trade speculation that had been surrounding him.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersMonday 7/28, 6:30 PM CT
Hank Blalock has been scratched from Monday's starting lineup because of an upset stomach according to the Dallas Morning News. Ramon Vazquez will start in his place.

Our View: Earlier in the day the same paper reported that the Giants were eyeing the slugger. Could a move go down tonight? Anything's possible.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersMonday 7/28, 8:20 AM CT
The Dallas Morning News indicates that the Giants have scouted Hank Blalock. The Rangers have also reportedly looked at the Giants' farm system, meaning a trade could be on the horizon.

Our View: Blalock has not fared well since coming off the DL, and his power would be further compromised while playing his home games at pitcher-friendly AT&T Park.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersSunday 7/27, 6:42 PM CT
Hank Blalock, who has struggled since returning from the DL, was 2-for-4 with a three-run double on Sunday. He also had two strikeouts.

Our View: Expect Blalock to get back to normal soon as he continues to build strength. He should have plenty of RBI opportunities in a hitter's ballpark with plenty of good batters surrounding him in the order.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersFriday 7/25, 6:26 PM CT
Three teams - the Los Angeles Dodgers, Minnesota Twins and San Francisco Giants are interested in Rangers third sacker Hank Blalock, according to ESPN.com.

Our View: In 108 at-bats this season, Blalock has four home runs and 10 RBI. If moved, his value would depend upon where he lands, but count on solid production if he stays healthy.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersMonday 7/21, 10:16 PM CT
Hank Blalock socked a two-run homer in Monday's win over the White Sox. It was the corner infielder's first shot since April 18.

Our View: Injuries have been the story of Blalock's season, but he can still hit a little when healthy and is worth using in (at the least) AL-only fantasy formats.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersFriday 7/18, 6:23 PM CT
Hank Blalock was activated from the DL and is in tonight's lineup for the Texas Rangers and is playing third base and hitting sixth, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

Our View: Blalock is finally back, and after starting off the year well, it will be interesting to see how long he takes to get his bearings back. When healthy, he can certainly be an asset to fantasy teams, so anyone in desperate need of a third baseman should try to grab him in free agency while the news is fresh.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersThursday 7/17, 4:50 PM CT
The Dallas Morning News reports that Hank Blalock will move back to third base and allow power-hitting Chris Davis to remain at first.

Our View: Blalock started the year hot while playing first but this move makes the Rangers lineup one of the scariest in baseball. The D and pitching leave a lot to be desired.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersWednesday 7/16, 11:08 PM CT
Hank Blalock unexpectedly started at DH and not first base on Wednesday night but it was just done as a precaution and not because of any physical setback, according to MLB.com. "I made sure before I decided to come back that my hand was ready, and it hasn't given me any problems," Blalock said.

Our View: In the three rehab games Blalock went 2-for-7 with three walks. What remains to be seen is what the club will do with rookie first baseman Chris Davis who has produced six home runs and 13 RBI in just 17 games. Will the club keep him around as a backup, or will they send him back to the minor leagues? Stay tuned.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersWednesday 7/16, 8:12 PM CT
Hank Blalock, making what was hoped to be his third and final rehab appearance at Double-A Frisco, was in the lineup at DH and not first base as originally planned, according to the Star Telegram.

Our View: No word yet on what the reason was for the switch, but it can't be taken as a positive that he was unable to play in the field. Stay tuned for an update.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersWednesday 7/16, 8:42 AM CT
Hank Blalock 0-for-2 with two walks in his rehab game Tuesday with Double-A Frisco. This was the second of what is supposed to be three rehab games for Blalock, who is coming back from a wrist injury.

Our View: Blalock will play first when he returns to the Rangers lineup, meaning Chris Davis is likely to be sent down even though he's hit six homers in 58 at-bats. If he has no setbacks, he should be back Friday.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersMonday 7/14, 9:34 PM CT
Hank Blalock started at first base and went 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI for Double-A Frisco on Monday. He is rehabbing a torn left hamstring and is due to play three games for Frisco.

Our View: Blalock's "Games Without an Injury" counter now has been flipped to "1." The Rangers still plan on him being their starting first baseman, which is bad news for Chris Davis fans. We'll see if Hank can get through three minor league games first.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersThursday 7/10, 7:54 PM CT
Hank Blalock will play three games at Double-A Frisco starting on Monday, and if all goes well he is hopeful of returning to the starting lineup on Friday, according to MLB.com. "If Hank is ready, I want Hank," manager Ron Washington said.

Our View: Ron Washington has remained steadfast that when healthy Blalock will be in his lineup which means power-hitting rookie Chris Davis may or may not continue to be an integral part of the daily lineup.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersTuesday 7/8, 9:32 AM CT
Hank Blalock took some swings in the batting cage for the first time in more than a week on Monday, and felt good, according to the Dallas Morning News.

Our View: Barring a setback, he will go on a rehab assignment with Frisco during the All-Star break.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersThursday 6/26, 11:07 AM CT
Hank Blalock is believed to be around two weeks away from returning to the Rangers, according to the Dallas Morning News.

Our View: The source also said there is a possibility that he won't be back until the second half. This could prove to be true, if Chris Davis makes an impact right away at first base.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersWednesday 6/25, 5:50 PM CT
Hank Blalock has yet to return from the disabled list after re-injuring his right wrist, and he is upset with the doctor who cleared him to begin his rehab, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “I’d probably rather try somebody else. He told me seven to ten days and a month later it’s killing me,” Blalock said.

Our View: It is unknown when Blalock will be back, as he will have to be reevaluated upon the team's return to Arlington.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersWednesday 6/25, 8:27 AM CT
Hank Blalock's return has hit another speed bump, this according to the Dallas Morning News. The third baseman-turned-first baseman was out of the Triple-A Oklahoma lineup Tuesday for the second straight day because of a bruised right hand. Blalock will join the Rangers for a workout and then be re-evaluated. "If he makes some remarkable improvement, things could change," assistant general manager Thad Levine said. "But it was our desire for him to play [a full nine-inning game at first] when we sent him out, and it is still our desire."

Our View: Blalock has been out of action for two months is not expected to return to the active lineup before Thursday, but maybe longer. The Rangers would still like him to play a full nine innings at first base before being activated, but there is nowhere for him to play today.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersMonday 6/23, 9:44 PM CT
Hank Blalock suffered yet another setback when he bruised his right wrist diving for a ball Sunday during the second game of a rehab assignment with Triple-A Oklahoma, according to the Star-Telegram. He was not in the Redhawks' lineup Monday, but the hope is that he can play Tuesday.

Our View: This latest setback is considered minor, but there is no timetable for Blalock's return. The Rangers had been hoping he would be back tomorrow.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersTuesday 6/17, 8:15 PM CT
Rangers corner infielder Hank Blalock will continue to see his work towards heath delayed, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: Blalock had been scheduled to be at Triple-A Oklahoma for rehab games this week, but was instead with the Rangers on Tuesday, fielding grounders and taking batting practice. Manager Ron Washington said Blalock was still experiencing problems with his hands following surgery May 30 for carpal tunnel syndrome. The former All-Star third baseman, who will shift to first base when he comes back, was originally on the 15-day disabled list since April 29 with a torn left hamstring. He recovered from that injury and was preparing for a rehabilitation assignment then before experiencing wrist soreness. Blalock is now scheduled to rehab with Oklahoma for three games starting Saturday. If all goes well, he will rejoin the Rangers for their series in Houston that begins next Tuesday.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersSunday 6/15, 5:22 PM CT
Hank Blalock, who is recovering from carpal tunnel syndrome surgery on his right wrist, is set to begin his rehab assignment on Monday with Triple-A Oklahoma, according to the AP.

Our View: Blalock hopes to be activated from the DL next Friday, and could happen if his rehab stint goes well without a setback. He will man first base upon his return.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersFriday 6/13, 7:09 PM CT
Hank Blalock has resumed hitting, according to the team website, and is hoping to be activated next Friday from the disabled list. The Rangers open a three-game series with the Nationals at New RFK Stadium. Blalock took two rounds of batting practice on Friday afternoon, the first time he has done so since undergoing surgery at the end of May on his right wrist.

Our View: Blalock has been waiting for a cut on right hand to heal before he aggressively started swinging the bat.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersThursday 6/12, 8:45 AM CT
Manager Ron Washington commented that he is leaning toward batting Hank Blalock fifth in the lineup when he returns to action following his carpal tunnel surgery, according to the Dallas Morning News. Washington said, "I think I would end up having to fight Hank if I didn't put him up there where he could do some damage."

Our View: Blalock will also attempt to solidify his role in the field at first base when he comes back. David Murphy would likely move to sixth in the batting order.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersTuesday 6/10, 6:53 PM CT
Hank Blalock has begun to make some throws to second base and could hit on Friday, the Dallas Morning News reports. The third baseman-turned-first baseman underwent surgery on May 30 to relieve carpal tunnel syndrome in his right wrist. Blalock was previously out due to a torn left hamstring. He could go on a minor league rehab assignment next week.

Our View: We won't feel too confident until Blalock is working in the minors and gets through a couple games without hurting his wrist (or any other body part). He will attempt to hold down the every-day job at first when he's healthy.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersTuesday 6/3, 4:57 PM CT
Hank Blalock is taking grounders from Ron Washington and Art Howe at first base, less than a week after undergoing surgery to relieve irritation in his right wrist from carpal tunnel syndrome, according to the Star-Telegram. He's not throwing the ball but just on fielding with his glove hand.

Our View: This is good to hear, but Blalock is still expected to miss at least the next month.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersFriday 5/30, 4:59 PM CT
Hank Blalock underwent surgery to relieve irritation in his right wrist from carpal tunnel syndrome, according to the Dallas Morning News.

Our View: That means he will now miss at least another four weeks. Chris Shelton and Frank Catalanotto will platoon at first base, and Blalock obviously did not respond well to his cortisone injection as hoped.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersFriday 5/30, 9:43 AM CT
According to the Dallas News, Rangers' third baseman Hank Blalock is waiting to see if the soreness in his right wrist and hand goes away after a cortisone injection.

Our View: Surgical release is an option if Blalock doesn't improve from the injection. For now, despite the teams plans to send him on a rehab assignment, there is no timetable for his return to active duty.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersThursday 5/29, 9:54 AM CT
If the cortisone shot Hank Blalock received to his right wrist Tuesday has eliminated the soreness in his hand, he could go on a rehab assignment over the weekend and potentially join the Rangers for their series against Cleveland next week, according to the Dallas Morning News.

Our View: The four-game series against Cleveland begins on June 2. He is expected to cover first base when he returns.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersTuesday 5/27, 5:25 PM CT
Hank Blalock had a cortisone shot Tuesday in an attempt to alleviate carpal tunnel syndrome in his right wrist, according to the AP. Blalock had been on track to come back from his "He got the injection," manager Ron Washington said. "We'll see if the injection helps."

Our View: Blalock will need to go on a minor league rehab assignment before being activated from the DL, so he appears to be at least a week away from returning.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersTuesday 5/27, 9:26 AM CT
Hank Blalock is recovering from carpal tunnel syndrome at an unfavorable pace, according to the Dallas Morning News. Blalock will leave the team today to return to Dallas to be examined by club orthopedist Dr. Keith Meister. Blalock is expected to receive a cortisone injection, since oral anti-inflammatory medication hasn't relieved the soreness in his right wrist. What is becoming an issue is whether Blalock will be ready to play once he is pain-free. He has not swung a bat since returning last Friday from a four-day rehab assignment at extended spring training. He has not been able to do any work at first base either, which is where he is going to play when he returns to the Rangers. GM Jon Daniels said, "Given that the wrist is involved, it may make sense to have him see live pitching at some point. But we're focused on getting him healthy first."

Our View: He's expected to be out until at least Friday, but the Rangers don't believe any surgical procedure will be needed. Manager Ron Washington also thinks Blalock may need a quick tune-up rehab assignment, but Blalock said he would be capable of moving straight back into the lineup regardless of not having any kind of at-bats for the last week.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersMonday 5/26, 11:59 AM CT
Hank Blalock is not likely to make his debut at first base until after the Rangers return from their road trip that ends Wednesday, according to the Dallas Morning News. Blalock still had right wrist soreness and some tingling in his fingers two days after he started taking anti-inflammatory medication to battle Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. He still has not swung a bat since he joined the team Friday. He won't swing until he's pain-free, as said by skipper Ron Washington.

Our View: It remains to be seen whether Blalock will need to restart a rehab assignment if he doesn't swing the bat through the Tampa Bay series. He would then have gone nearly a full week without any swings.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersSunday 5/25, 10:59 AM CT
The carpal-tunnel syndrome in Hank Blalock's right hand hasn't responded to medication yet, according to the Star-Telegram. Manager Ron Washington now doesn't believe Blalock will be activated from the DL during the three-game set against the Rays.

Our View: Washington expects that Frank Catalanotto will be able to return to first base in time for Tuesday's game, and Chris Shelton will likely get another start Monday against Rays' lefty ace Scott Kazmir.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersFriday 5/23, 3:20 PM CT
Hank Blalock will not be activated on Friday night. He was expected to come back from a torn left hamstring and make his debut at first base, but the infielder now has carpal tunnel syndrome in his right wrist. "I feel like I lead the league in syndromes," Blalock informs the Dallas Morning News. "I'm just confused. All I want to do is get out there and play baseball." Chris Shelton will start at first base on Friday.

Our View: We're not sure how long this new ailment will sideline Blalock, but the Rangers might want to take away his Wii and Guitar Hero.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersWednesday 5/21, 8:10 PM CT
Hank Blalock, coming back from a torn hamstring, played five innings in an extended spring training game on Wednesday and seems to be passing all the tests, according to MLB.com. Blalock is moving to first base and is expected to start there on Friday in Cleveland when he's activated. "Hank is coming along good," manager Ron Washington said. "He's making all the adjustments and almost looking like a first baseman. It won't take Hank long. He's already an infielder, he's just moving to the other side. He's got an idea of how to play first base."

Our View: Blalock is worth an add in mixed leagues if someone dropped him following his injury.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersWednesday 5/21, 8:56 AM CT
The Rangers are expected to give the green light today to having Hank Blalock join them as the team's first baseman Friday in Cleveland, according to the Dallas Morning News.

Our View: Blalock played first for a second consecutive day Tuesday during a simulated game at extended spring training. Though he took batting practice, he did not hit in the game. Instead, he played first for both sides.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersMonday 5/19, 7:32 PM CT
Hank Blalock went 2-for-4 in an extended spring training game on Monday, according to the Associated Press. Blalock has been out of action since April 26th due to a partially torn left hamstring.

Our View: Blalock will spend time playing first base as that appears to be the position he will play once he returns to the Rangers, and if all goes well that could happen by this weekend.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersSunday 5/18, 12:42 PM CT
The Rangers intend to bring Hank Blalock back from the disabled list this week and now indicate that he will be used as the team's full-time first baseman, according to the Star Telegram.

Our View: Blalock came to the team to volunteer for the job according to the Telegram, having done so after watching the team's recent struggles. He has already begun working on the position and will continue to do so in extended spring training. Normally playing at third, Blalock believes the team will benefit from him being on the first bag. We'll see how he progresses as the return from the DL looms, hoping to come back later this week.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersSaturday 5/17, 11:07 AM CT
Hank Blalock made it clear on Friday that his left hamstring feels fine, according to the Star-Telegram. Blalock was scheduled to make a rehab start Thursday night (for Frisco), but was a late scratch because the hamstring tightened up on him after he cooled down after batting practice. Blalock said, "There was no setback or anything and nothing grabbed on me. I just need to train through the weekend and try back again on Monday. I'm trying to stay positive." Blalock ran Friday and took batting practice.

Our View: Blalock could be headed to Arizona on Monday to get in as many at-bats as possible in extended spring training games. He will then join the Rangers when he feels ready.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersThursday 5/15, 11:01 PM CT
Hank Blalock was scratched from a scheduled start in Double_A on Thursday night after his injured hamstring tightened up during warmups, according to the Dallas Morning News.

Our View: The report was very critical of the Rangers for rushing Blalock back to the field and predicted that he likely wouldn't be back in the Rangers lineup until June 1st. Whether or not the report is accurate, Blalock did suffer a setback which puts his return next week in doubt.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersThursday 5/15, 9:15 AM CT
Hank Blalock went through a rigorous fielding workout and will join Double-A Frisco tonight to begin a rehab assignment, according to the Dallas Morning News. Blalock has been on the shelf since April 26 with a partially torn left hamstring, an injury that was originally believed to keep him out three to six weeks.

Our View: The Rangers will evaluate Blalock on Friday, but have not ruled out the possibility he could return to the diamond this weekend against Houston.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersTuesday 5/13, 4:46 PM CT
Hank Blalock (hamstring) will likely be activated from the DL on Friday in time to take on the Astros, according to the Star Telegram. Blalock will head to Double-A Frisco to get in some work, but manager Ron Washington wants to see how Blalock does on the farm before saying that Blalock will return on Friday.

Our View: Blalock is a needed bat in the middle of the Rangers lineup, especially with the inconsistent health record of Milton Bradley.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersSunday 5/11, 7:51 AM CT
Hank Blalock ran at half-speed and fielded grounders for the second straight day on Saturday. He is on the DL due to a partially torn left hamstring. The Rangers haven't set a timetable for Blalock's return, the Dallas Morning News reports.

Our View: We probably won't have a good feel for Hank until he is going all out and seeing how the hamstring reacts. We expect that he'll go on a rehab assignment before jumping back into major league games.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersTuesday 4/29, 4:39 PM CT
The Rangers placed Hank Blalock on the DL Tuesday with a hamstring strain. He is expected to miss 3-4 weeks with the injury. Brandon Boggs was called up to replace Blalock on the roster.

Our View: Blalock will be sidelined until at least mid May and will likely require a rehab assignment before returning.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersMonday 4/28, 5:45 PM CT
Following up on an earlier report, Hank Blalock will miss the next 3-4 weeks with a hamstring strain, this according to the Dallas Morning News. He received an anti-inflammatory injection, but he's headed to the 15-day disabled list officially on Tuesday.

Our View: The report noted that an interesting roster move was forthcoming. Why? Because there are no able-bodied third basemen on the 40-man roster and the 40 also has very little elasticity. There is speculation that prospect Nelson Cruz, who is crushing Triple-A pitching as an outfielder, could get one more chance with the parent club. Chris Shelton, who is also hitting well at Oklahoma City, is another possibility.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersMonday 4/28, 8:58 AM CT
Hank Blalock hasn't played since suffering a pulled hamstring on Friday and will undergo an MRI today, according to the Dallas Morning News. Blalock will also be evaluated by team orthopedist Dr. Keith Meister. Blalock said, "I don't know what to think. My mind is optimistic, but I'm confused. I've never had a hamstring injury. The soreness died down a little today. It had to after I iced it down about six times yesterday."

Our View: Hamstring injuries often land players on the DL, but the team could wait an extra day or two to make a move, because they lack a viable option to replace Blalock at third base. Joaquin Arias is the only extra infielder on the 40-man roster, but he is still recovering from shoulder surgery and can't play short or third base right now. Blalock was hitting .299 with three homers and seven RBI over 22 games, and they won't be able to replace his bat.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersSunday 4/27, 6:21 PM CT
Texas was without Hank Blalock for the second straight game due to a strained left hamstring. Blalock reported that some of the soreness has subsided, but he isn't quite ready to return to the starting lineup.

Our View: The third baseman is expected to have an MRI exam on Monday to determine the extent of the injury. At that time the team will make a decision on a timetable for his return.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersSaturday 4/19, 9:21 PM CT
Hank Blalock had another three hits on Saturday night to push his average to .339.

Our View: It's great to see Blalock fight back from his injured back to produce five hits in two nights. Not only will Blalock avoid the DL, he looks to be in mid-season form as well.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersFriday 4/18, 10:07 PM CT
Hank Blalock had two hits, including his third home run, and two RBI on Friday night for the Rangers.

Our View: So much for Blalock needing a trip to the DL. He will continue to be an injury concern until he proves he can stay healthy for 140+ games, but Blalock is off to a solid start to the season.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersFriday 4/18, 7:10 PM CT
Hank Blalock returned to the lineup on Friday ending fears that a back injury might force him to the DL, this according to MLB.com. "I woke up this morning and everything felt real good, and I got a lot of treatments, so it loosened up."

Our View: Blalock is hitting .302 on the year and hopes to prove that his power bat has returned, though concerns about his health have dogged him in the early going.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersThursday 4/17, 5:45 PM CT
The Rangers' starting lineup will be without veteran Hank Blalock tonight in Toronto. The Rangers third baseman is nursing a stiff back and will be limited to emergency pinch-hitting duty.

Our View: German Duran replaces Blalock and bats ninth.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersThursday 4/17, 8:34 AM CT
Hank Blalock could be headed to the DL if his back doesn't loosen up, according to the Dallas News. He had to leave Wednesday's game over Toronto after the top of the 10th because his back locked up on him. If Blalock doesn't report improvement soon, the Rangers are likely to bring German Duran to the majors as a replacement.

Our View: He was replaced by Adam Melhuse. Blalock just can't seem to stay healthy.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersMonday 4/14, 10:31 PM CT
Hank Blalock hammered his second homer of the season on Monday night. He finished the evening 2-for-3 with a walk and three RBI.

Our View: Blalock had one one RBI coming into the night, but we weren't overly worried.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersFriday 4/4, 9:13 PM CT
Hank Blalock was a late scratch from Friday's lineup due to the flu, according to the Dallas Morning News. He has been dealing with the illness most of the week but had been playing through it. Ramon Vazquez replaced Blalock in the lineup.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersThursday 4/3, 8:54 AM CT
Hank Blalock has been battling flu-like symptoms but reportedly felt significantly better on Wednesday during game action, according to the Dallas Morning News. He went 0-for-3 against Seattle, but did draw a walk and was able to finish the game.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersTuesday 4/1, 7:48 PM CT
Ian Kinsler was battling an illness Monday, and now Michael Young and Hank Blalock are sick, according to the Star-Telegram. Both Young and Blalock took two liters of IV fluids, and while neither will take batting practice today, they are expected to be in the lineup. Unless you have a viable alternative, go ahead and keep Blalock in your lineup.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersMonday 3/31, 4:48 PM CT
Hank Blalock is hitting in the clean up spot tonight when the Rangers take the batter box against Eric Bedard in his Seattle debut. Blalock has received his share of "sleeper' labels this spring, and hitting in the fourth spot behind Ian Kinsler, Michael Young and Josh Hamilton could result in a productive season.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersFriday 3/28, 11:55 AM CT
Hank Blalock and Milton Bradley hit back-to-back home runs in the third inning of Thursday's spring win over the Royals. It was the oft-injured, Blalock's, fourth this spring. The talk on Thursday wasn't of how well Blalock has played this spring, but that of Bradley's monster shot that cleared the left-center-field wall and grass. The last few disappointing seasons by Blalock has left him a late-round mixed league option. If he can stay healthy he should easily outproduce his ADP.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersFriday 3/28, 10:21 AM CT
Manager Ron Washington aims to use Hank Blalock as his cleanup hitter, moving Milton Bradley to the five hole, when the season gets underway, according to the Dallas Morning News. "I'll take the same approach no matter where I am, but I'm comfortable at cleanup and I want to produce and help this team score runs," Blalock said. "I can tell you Milton is an animal. And when he's healthy, there's no one better to have as protection in the lineup." Washington had planned all spring to use Bradley as the fourth hitter, but Bradley struggled with his timing at the plate and Blalock has hit .377.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersThursday 3/27, 6:23 PM CT
Hank Blalock went 1-for-2 with two RBI against Kansas City on Thursday, and most notably crushed his fourth homer of the spring. He now has 15 RBI with a .377 average and is capable of strong numbers if he can just stay healthy.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersThursday 3/20, 10:46 PM CT
Hank Blalock doubled, walked, and homered to right in four trips to the plate in the Rangers Thursday win over Arizona. Blalock has the potential to out produce his ADP this year if he can find a way to stay healthy. The Rangers third baseman is coming off shoulder surgery that caused him to miss most of the '07 season. Blalock finished strong last summer hitting five September home runs and recording 17 RBI in just 19 games.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersThursday 3/13, 7:20 PM CT
Hank Blalock blasted a three-run homer against the Rockies on Thursday, and looks to be fine and back on track following his car accident. Blalock is among the most dangerous hitters in the league, but has struggled to stay healthy (only played 58 games in 2007).
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersTuesday 3/11, 12:38 PM CT
Hank Blalock returned to his post at third base for the first time since his car accident on Monday, according to Dallas News. He was 0-for-3 hitting but was solid in the field and notably charged a chopped in the fifth inning to make a strong play. He commented that he is completely over the soreness now.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersMonday 3/10, 8:30 AM CT
Hank Blalock is ready to return to his post at third base, according to MLB.com. He was previously relegated to DH duty following his car accident.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersSaturday 3/8, 9:55 AM CT
Hank Blalock was able to take some swings, run the bases and play catch on Friday, according to the Dallas Morning News. He hasn't played since suffering a sore neck in a car accident Monday, but he likely will be able to DH on Saturday.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersWednesday 3/5, 9:51 PM CT
Hank Blalock didn't play on Wednesday as he continued to recover from his minor car injury. Blalock's sore neck kept him out of action on Wednesday and will likely do so on Thursday as well, this according to MLB.com. "He's still got whiplash from being hit," manager Ron Washington said. "He's still got residue from that. We'll just take that a day at a time." Blalock hopes to return to DH on Friday in his attempt to reestablish himself as one of the top third basemen in the game in 2008.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersTuesday 3/4, 11:24 PM CT
Hank Blalock might get back into game action Wednesday after being rear-ended in his car on Monday, according to the Dallas Morning News. "A lady smoked us at about 40 mph," he said. "As soon as we heard tires, we got hit hard. Her car got totaled. I got a little whiplash, but I'm not too bad. I should be all right." On top of the sore neck, Blalock has been dealing with soreness on the back of his right shoulder that's kept him from playing since Friday. Consider him day-to-day at this point.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersTuesday 3/4, 3:30 PM CT
Hank Blalock had a stiff neck Tuesday, a day after he was rear-ended while stopped at an intersection. He was held out of Tuesday's game as a precaution but said he's fine. “It’s no big deal. They’re being real careful with me,” Blalock said in the AP. The Rangers are taking it easy with Blalock this spring. He's yet to play third base since having surgery last May to remove a rib.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersSunday 3/2, 7:18 PM CT
After playing in the first three spring games, Hank Blalock was out of the lineup for the second straight day Sunday and isn't scheduled to play tomorrow. He's not injured, but the team is just easing him into things, Blalock told the AP. Blalock missed most of last season after having surgery to remove a rib, and apparently the Rangers don't want to overburden him this spring.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersTuesday 2/19, 8:36 AM CT
Hank Blalock made full-speed, full-scale throws from third base Monday for the first time since his shoulder surgery last May. "It felt like normal; the injury shouldn't even come into question," Blalock told the Dallas Morning News. Blalock showed no ill effects at the plate last September after coming back from thoracic outlet syndrome, but he was used only as a DH. It's good to know he's able to take the field now.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersFriday 9/21, 5:50 AM CT
Hank Blalock threw again Thursday, but it's unlikely that he'll play in the field again this season, the AP reports. Blalock is still recovering from surgery in May to remove a rib that was affecting nerves in his arm and is now experiencing some elbow soreness. Blalock said he doesn't want to have a sore arm going into the offseason, when he plans an aggressive rehabilitation. Blalock was in the lineup as the designated hitter Thursday, going 1-for-4 with an RBI.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersSunday 9/16, 2:26 AM CT
Hank Blalock did some throwing before Saturday's game and feels his forearm has improved some, though it's still sore, the AP reports. Blalock, who missed 106 days after surgery on his clavicle area to remove a rib, was limited to the DH role, going 1-for-4 with three strikeouts. He will likely have Sunday off but could play the field next week at Minnesota if he is better.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersFriday 9/14, 12:30 PM CT
Hank Blalock, who has been limited to DH duty since returning from the DL, wants to play third base before the season comes to an end, although it's unclear if that's realistic, according to the Dallas Morning News. "If it's still sore and I don't play third base this year, it's not that big a deal," Blalock said. "I'd like to be out there, but I don't think I have to prove anything to myself for peace of mind. I'll be excited to get back out there whether it's the last 10 days of this season or opening day next year." Although it keeps him from playing the field, Blalock's shoulder hasn't been affecting him at the plate, as he's hit .364 with three homers and 10 RBI in 10 games since returning.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersThursday 9/6, 10:56 AM CT
Hank Blalock, who has been used only in the DH spot since being activated from the DL earlier this month, said he expects to be back at third base before the Rangers begin a series with the Twins on Sept. 17. Blalock said he still needs to be able to make throws on the run and in the hole without any pain, according to the Dallas Morning News. He is coming back from thoracic outlet syndrome, which affects the nerves that pass through the shoulder into the neck. He had surgery May 21 to remove a rib, which helped alleviate the problem.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersSaturday 9/1, 11:46 PM CT
Hank Blalock was activated off the disabled list Saturday, and Ron Washington plans on using him as the DH Sunday, the Rangers official site reports. "He's ready to get into the fire," Washington said. "Hank is a proven commodity. Hank is going to be fine. He just needs to get at-bats." Blalock has been on the shelf since May, after having a rib removed.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersFriday 8/31, 11:01 PM CT
Hank Blalock may be activated Saturday when major league rosters are expanded to 40 players, according to the AP. Blalock's season has been limited to 39 games because of a condition called "thoracic outlet syndrome," which affects the nerves that pass through the shoulder into the neck. He had surgery May 21 to remove a rib, which helped alleviate the problem.

Our View: Blalock should be healthy enough to start in a game sometime on the next road trip, which begins Sept. 11 in Detroit.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersMonday 8/27, 9:01 AM CT
For the first time since undergoing shoulder surgery in May, Hank Blalock was able to throw all the way across the infield on Sunday. He made about a half-dozen throws from the full distance and should be able to increase that number over the next few days, according to the Dallas Morning News. Ideally, Blalock will begin a rehab assignment as soon as Thursday.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersTuesday 8/21, 10:30 AM CT
Hank Blalock, who is recovering from surgery to remove a rib, has slowed his throwing program after being unhappy with his reworked mechanics. The Rangers had been hoping that he would be ready to begin a rehab assignment by the weekend, according to the Dallas Morning News. "When I come back, I really want the mechanics to kick in," Blalock said. "I want to be able to play deeper and make good, strong throws. Doing drills in Minnesota, I wasn't happy with the way I was throwing. This is something of a mechanical setback." It's unclear how much this will set him back.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersSaturday 8/18, 12:52 AM CT
Hank Blalock (rib surgery) took grounders again and threw across the diamond Friday, but not all the way to first base, the AP reports. Ron Washington said if all goes well, Blalock will start throwing all the way to first base on Saturday. "It was a very good day for Blalock," Washington said.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersFriday 8/17, 12:36 PM CT
Hank Blalock, who is recovering from rib surgery, could begin a rehab assignment on August 23, according to the Dallas Morning News. Manager Ron Washington said Blalock would need only three day of playing before he's activated, so it's possible we could see the third baseman back in a Rangers uniform before the end of the month.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersThursday 8/16, 7:30 AM CT
Hank Blalock took another step in his recovery from rib surgery when he made throws to first base during early infield practice Wednesday, the AP reports. It's the first time he's done that since he went on the DL on May 18. Blalock, who has been taking batting practice, is throwing from the cut of the grass, and will make deeper throws in the next few days. If he continues to progress, he should be ready for a minor league rehab assignment in a little more than a week.
Hank Blalock, DH, Texas RangersSunday 8/12, 9:33 PM CT
Hank Blalock will start making straight throws to first base Tuesday.
