Mark Ellis, 2B, Oakland AthleticsSaturday 9/19, 12:02 AM CT
Mark Ellis helped lead the A's in Friday's 2-1 win over the Indians at McAfee Coliseum, as he went 2-for-3 with two singles and an RBI.

Our View: Ellis ended a six-game skid without an RBI, and has 54 for 2009. He has a hit in three of his last four games, but is only batting .266 this month after holding a .340 average in August.
Mark Ellis, 2B, Oakland AthleticsSaturday 9/5, 11:23 PM CT
Mark Ellis went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored in tonight's 9-5 win over the Mariners at McAfee Coliseum. Both of his knocks were doubles.

Our View: Ellis was in need of a solid performance, as he only had one hit over his previous three games (11 at-bats). Hopefully he will stay on track after batting .340 in August.
Mark Ellis, 2B, Oakland AthleticsMonday 8/17, 5:15 PM CT
Mark Ellis has been named the AL Player of the Week, according to TSN. He led the AL with a .571 batting average last week, and racked up 11 RBI.

Our View: He has been named the player of the week for the first time in his career. He is batting .431 this month, and Ellis should remain active in fantasy lineups while swinging a hot stick.
Mark Ellis, 2B, Oakland AthleticsSunday 8/16, 8:32 PM CT
Mark Ellis hit a walk-off home run off White Sox closer Bobby Jenks to give the A's a 3-2 win. He finished the day 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Our View: Ellis has just six homers on the season, but Sunday's was a big one. He's also on a tear this month, hitting .431 with 19 RBI.
Mark Ellis, 2B, Oakland AthleticsSaturday 8/15, 6:20 PM CT
Mark Ellis went 2-for-4 with a single and a double, and recorded the A's lone RBI in Saturday's 8-1 loss to the White Sox at McAfee Coliseum.

Our View: Ellis is batting .417 with 17 RBI over 14 games this month. Keep him active in fantasy lineups while hot.
Mark Ellis, 2B, Oakland AthleticsMonday 8/10, 10:06 PM CT
Mark Ellis went 5-for-5 with four RBI in tonight's 9-1 win at Baltimore. He hit a double and four singles.

Our View: Ellis is batting .429 (15-for-35) this month, and has seven RBI over his last three games. Keep him active in fantasy leagues while swinging a hot stick.
Mark Ellis, 2B, Oakland AthleticsSunday 7/26, 4:32 PM CT
Mark Ellis' three run bomb Sunday was only his second home run of July, but it came in a losing effort, as the A's fell to the Yankees 7-5 in Yankee Stadium.

Our View: Ellis has only four homers on the season, and is batting just .218. He has deeper AL-only leagues written all over him.
Mark Ellis, 2B, Oakland AthleticsSaturday 7/4, 8:16 AM CT
According to MLB.com, A's infielder Mark Ellis missed the start of Friday's game in Cleveland due to the birth of his child. He was in attendance in CLeveland on Friday night, but he was not in time to start.

Our View: Ellis tried to make it back last night, but he just couldn't get there in time. He is expected back in the lineup on Saturday, so anyone using him in fantasy should feel free to get him in.
Mark Ellis, 2B, Oakland AthleticsSunday 6/28, 3:00 PM CT
The San Francicso Chronicle reports that Mark Ellis has been activated from the disabled list Sunday.

Our View: Ellis is on the starting lineup for Sunday's game against the Rockies. He will hit ninth and play second base.
Mark Ellis, 2B, Oakland AthleticsMonday 6/22, 10:11 PM CT
Mark Ellis is slated to be activated from the DL Sunday following his recovery from a strained left calf, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Ellis is only hitting .190 over six games in his minor league rehab assignment, and his fantasy value will be limited to AL-only leagues upon his return to Oakland. He was only batting .206 over 63 at-bats prior to going down this season as well.
Mark Ellis, 2B, Oakland AthleticsSaturday 6/6, 9:18 AM CT
According to the San Francisco Chronicle, injured second baseman Mark Ellis is scheduled to go on a rehab assignment on June 16th.

Our View: Ellis is suffering from a strained calf that landed him on the 60-day disabled list. He is eligible to return on June 27th, and looks like he may make that date if his rehab assignment goes off without a hitch.
Mark Ellis, 2B, Oakland AthleticsWednesday 5/20, 3:14 PM CT
Mark Ellis has been transferred to the 60-day DL by the Athletics, according to Scout.com. The club made the move after acquiring reliever Craig Breslow off waivers from Minnesota.

Our View: Ellis is recovering from a sverely strained calf. He now won't be eligible to return until June 27.
Mark Ellis, 2B, Oakland AthleticsSaturday 5/9, 8:01 AM CT
Mark Ellis is expected to be on the shelf for another month while recovering from a Grade-2 calf strain, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Our View: The newly acquired Adam Kennedy should see some action at second base and in the middle infield, as Nomar Garciaparra and Eric Chavez are also on the DL. Kennedy could push Ellis for playing time upon his return as well, as Ellis was only hitting .206 over 63 at-bats, and skipper Bob Geren views Kennedy as an every-day player.
Mark Ellis, 2B, Oakland AthleticsThursday 5/7, 7:19 AM CT
Mark Ellis is limited to upper-body strength work while dealing with a Grade 2 calf strain, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Our View: Ellis noted that he needs to start throwing soon, as he does not want to lose any strength in his shoulder. He spent the offseason recovering from surgery on his right shoulder.
Mark Ellis, 2B, Oakland AthleticsSaturday 5/2, 7:50 PM CT
Mark Ellis is expected to be on the shelf for 4-6 weeks after his MRI revealed that his calf strain is serious, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Our View: Fantasy owners should manage fine without Ellis, as he was only hitting .206 over 63 at-bats prior to going down.
Mark Ellis, 2B, Oakland AthleticsThursday 4/30, 7:32 AM CT
Mark Ellis has been placed on the 15-day DL by the Athletics due to a calf injury, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Mark Ellis, 2B, Oakland AthleticsWednesday 4/29, 10:47 AM CT
Second baseman Mark Ellis will land on the 15-day DL on Wednesday due to a left calf injury, the San Francisco Chronicle reports. He felt his calf muscle "pop" as he ran on Tuesday night.

Our View: Bobby Crosby took over at second base on Tuesday night, but the A's may promote Eric Patterson and give him a lot of time over the next two weeks.
Mark Ellis, 2B, Oakland AthleticsTuesday 4/28, 8:27 PM CT
According to the San Fransisco Chronicle, Mark Ellis left Tuesday's game, injuring himself trying to run out a ground ball.

Our View: Ellis pulled up lame and had to be helped off the field. It has yet to be determined what the injury is specifically or the extent of it.
Mark Ellis, 2B, Oakland AthleticsTuesday 4/14, 12:41 PM CT
The San Fransisco Chronicle reports that Mark Ellis received a day off on Monday. It was a routine rest and had nothing to do with injury.

Our View: It's a good sign that this was not a move based on injury after he missed much of last season with a shoulder problem. Ellis is not much of a fantasy option, but he could be a useful pickup if he stays healthy for the entire season.
Mark Ellis, 2B, Oakland AthleticsThursday 4/9, 12:37 AM CT
Second baseman Mark Ellis went 3-for-5 with two RBI, and a run scored as Oakland beat Los Angeles 6-4 on Wednesday.

Our View: Ellis is not among the second basemen that immediately pop into mind of most fantasy owners when they consider the position, but he is worth keeping an eye on. A shoulder injury derailed his 2008 campaign, but he is a fairly reliable hitter who will see a lot of starts in Oakland this season. He has three RBI through three games played.
Mark Ellis, 2B, Oakland AthleticsSaturday 4/4, 7:13 AM CT
Mark Ellis is testing his surgically-repaired right shoulder, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. Ellis played Friday night and expects to be in the lineup today. He said, "I am anticipating to be able to be out there as much as I can."

Our View: Ellis is a decent source for speed and power when healthy, and is worth targeting for AL-only and deeper mixed leagues.
Mark Ellis, 2B, Oakland AthleticsSaturday 3/21, 7:41 AM CT
Mark Ellis, who is recovering from shoulder surgery, is set to play second base in a minor league game today, according to the SF Chronicle. Barring a setback, he will roam second base for the Athletics on Wednesday.

Our View: The 31-year-old vet only averages 128 games played over the last four seasons, and should only be considered for deeper fantasy leagues. When healthy, Ellis is a decent source for speed and power.
Mark Ellis, 2B, Oakland AthleticsMonday 3/16, 7:39 AM CT
Mark Ellis is on pace to make his defensive debut March 25, according to the SF Chronicle. He is recovering from shoulder surgery and said, "I am slowly working my way to being able to bounce back from the morning workout."

Our View: Ellis has enough speed and power to be useful in deeper fantasy leagues, but remains a risky pick due to his track record with durability.
Mark Ellis, 2B, Oakland AthleticsWednesday 2/18, 7:52 AM CT
Mark Ellis won't be cleared to roam second base in a spring game until March 23 as he is still in the early stages of a post-shoulder-surgery throwing program, according to the SF Chronicle. He is hitting though, and could participate as a DH.

Our View: He believes he only needs 30-35 at-bats to be ready for opening day on April 6. Ellis has decent speed and power, and could serve as a nice value pick for mixed leagues if he can stay intact.
Mark Ellis, 2B, Oakland AthleticsSunday 2/8, 9:04 AM CT
Mark Ellis expects to play on opening day even if he handles a light workload during spring training, according to the SF Chronicle. He is recovering from shoulder surgery. He said, "It is hard to gauge right now, because all I am doing is playing catch. I do not know how my arm will respond until I am playing every day, but so far, it is all going well."

Our View: This is encouraging news and Ellis could serve as a nice value pick in fantasy leagues, as a top-20 second baseman if he proves to be healthy.
Mark Ellis, 2B, Oakland AthleticsFriday 1/23, 7:14 AM CT
Manager Bob Geren said Mark Ellis will be close to ready by opening day, according to the SF Chronicle. He is recovering from shoulder surgery.

Our View: If healthy, Ellis could come through as a top-20 fantasy second baseman. He is worth consideration as a backup. He should challenge a favorable number of runs scored with Matt Holliday and Jason Giambi hitting behind him in the lineup.
Mark Ellis, 2B, Oakland AthleticsSaturday 1/10, 3:08 PM CT
Mark Ellis (shoulder) will begin throwing on Janury 19 as he prepares for spring training, the San Francisco Chronicle notes. He is coming off right shoulder surgery and plans to be ready by Opening Day.

Our View: Ellis didn't hit well in 2008, but if he's healthy, he could provide decent, low-cost numbers for fantasy teams. It will help that Matt Holliday and Jason Giambi are now behind him in the lineup.
Mark Ellis, 2B, Oakland AthleticsThursday 11/6, 6:58 PM CT
Mark Ellis was robbed of the AL Gold Glove at second base as the award was given to Dustin Pedroia, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Our View: Ellis led AL second baseman in fielding percentage (.993), Zone Rating (.868) and was fifth in Range Factor (5.02). Care to guess how the winner, Pedroia, finished? Dustin was second in fielding percentage (.992), second in Zone rating (.854) and eighth in range factor (4.75). It wasn't that he was awful by any means, but the question needs to be asked - did Pedroia win the award because of his defense or his massive offensive output?
Mark Ellis, 2B, Oakland AthleticsMonday 10/20, 3:12 PM CT
As expected, Mark Ellis has agreed to a two-year extension to remain with Oakland, according to the AP. Specific terms were not disclosed, but the contract reportedly guarantees him around $11 million.

Our View: The 31-year-old infielder could have declared for free agency after the World Series, but had arthroscopic shoulder surgery last month and had been concerned that might affect his value on the open market. The team is very pleased to retain his services for at least two more seasons.
Mark Ellis, 2B, Oakland AthleticsSunday 10/19, 7:08 AM CT
Mark Ellis will be staying in Oakland and is set to sign a multi-year extension, according to the SF Chronicle. He said, "I'm very excited. Oakland has been a very good place for me and my family, and it's really a big relief to be back there."

Our View: The 31-year-old infielder could have declared for free agency after the World Series, but had arthroscopic shoulder surgery last month and had been concerned that might affect his value on the open market.
Mark Ellis, 2B, Oakland AthleticsTuesday 9/30, 7:00 AM CT
Mark Ellis is concerned that his procedure to repair damaged cartilage in his right shoulder could lessen his value on the free agent market, according to the SF Chronicle.

Our View: He believes he could be limited to one-year offers from interested teams. If Oakland presents him with a multi-year deal, there is a good chance he could stay with the club.
Mark Ellis, 2B, Oakland AthleticsSaturday 9/20, 11:10 AM CT
A's second baseman Mark Ellis underwent successful surgery that repaired damaged cartilage in his right shoulder, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Our View: Ellis also had a torn labrum in the shoulder, so getting that repaired should be very beneficial for the free agent-to-be.
Mark Ellis, 2B, Oakland AthleticsWednesday 9/17, 7:01 AM CT
Mark Ellis is scheduled to have arthroscopic surgery to repair cartilage damage in his right shoulder Friday, according to the SF Chronicle.

Our View: Dr. Doug Freedberg will perform the surgery in Scottsdale, Arizona. Ellis should be throwing again in three months and ready for spring training.
Mark Ellis, 2B, Oakland AthleticsSaturday 9/13, 8:24 PM CT
Mark Ellis is awaiting a second opinon from Dr. Lewis Yocum about shoulder surgery and may have an old injury repaired along with a more recent one should he undergo any operation, according to the SF Chronicle. Before the 2004 campaign, Ellis tore the labrum in his right shoulder in a brutal collision with Bobby Crosby, but nerve damage in the shoulder was too severe for surgery to be performed. Ellis rehabbed the shoulder, but the labrum is still torn.

Our View: Tests show that the nerves in Ellis' shoulder are fine now, so he is OK for surgery, and the labrum is likely to be repaired at the same time that chips are removed from the shoulder and damaged cartilage is taken out. Ellis would be expected to be ready to participate in spring training next season.
Mark Ellis, 2B, Oakland AthleticsThursday 9/11, 7:08 PM CT
Mark Ellis will miss the rest of the 2008 season due to a damaged cartilage in his right shoulder, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. At this point, it is unclear if Ellis will need surgery to fix the problem, but he believes it will be necessary to remove the chips that are floating in the joint.

Our View: The good news is that this injury is not related to the shoulder issue that caused him to sit out the 2004 season. Ellis finishes the year hitting .233-12-41-55, well down from his 2007 season of .276-19-76-84. However, he added steals to his offering this year, he finished with a career-high 14, to help offset some of the loss of power. It appears as if youngster Eric Patterson will fill the second base position the rest of the way.
Mark Ellis, 2B, Oakland AthleticsSaturday 9/6, 10:43 AM CT
Tropical Storm Hanna has washed out the first game of today's scheduled doubleheader between Oakland and Baltimore, according to the AP.

Our View: The first game is postponed and the second game will be played if the rain subsides by early evening.
Mark Ellis, 2B, Oakland AthleticsSunday 8/31, 8:04 AM CT
Second baseman Mark Ellis was used as a pinch-hitter Saturday after taking batting practice earlier in the day for the first time since shoulder pain surfaced last week, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Our View: Ellis should only be employed in AL-only leagues because of his .233 batting average. However, he has hit 12 home runs and stolen 14 bases, giving him some value.
Mark Ellis, 2B, Oakland AthleticsThursday 8/28, 7:00 AM CT
Mark Ellis was employed as a pinch runner Wednesday, which was his first appearance in five days, according to the SF Chronicle. His sore right shoulder is still not 100 percent, so he will remain limited and is not expected to play second base for several more days.

Our View: Ellis could be be back in the lineup for the next fantasy week. His average is low but has been decent in the speed (14 steals) and power (12 homers) departments for AL-only leagues.
Mark Ellis, 2B, Oakland AthleticsTuesday 8/26, 7:09 AM CT
Mark Ellis will take batting practice and play catch Tuesday but is unlikely to play until Wednesday or Thursday, according to the SF Chronicle. He is dealing with a sore right shoulder.

Our View: Ellis is only hitting .234 but has provided decent speed (14 steals) and power (12 homers) numbers for deeper AL-only leagues. Fantasy owners should get him back at some point this week.
Mark Ellis, 2B, Oakland AthleticsMonday 8/25, 6:58 AM CT
Mark Ellis remained out of the lineup Sunday as he is still dealing with a sore right shoulder, according to the SF Chronicle.

Our View: He will not return until he is sure he is ready and could miss another game or two.
Mark Ellis, 2B, Oakland AthleticsSaturday 8/23, 8:54 PM CT
Mark Ellis is out of Saturday's lineup and there is no timetable for his return, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. He left Friday's game with a right shoulder injury.

Our View: Manager Bob Geren said Ellis would sit out at least one more day, but the Chronicle speculated that it could be several more days.
Mark Ellis, 2B, Oakland AthleticsSunday 8/17, 7:08 AM CT
Mark Ellis, who will become a free agent after the season, told the A's he would prefer not to talk about a new contract for the rest of the year, according to the SF Chronicle. He said, "I just want to concentrate on baseball the rest of the year. Just put my focus on the game and not talk about a contract."

Our View: Arizona is expected to target Ellis if Orlando Hudson does not return. Ellis lives in Phoenix in the off-season.
Mark Ellis, 2B, Oakland AthleticsMonday 8/11, 7:12 AM CT
There has been talk that the Diamondbacks will pursue Mark Ellis when he becomes a free agent this winter, according to the SF Chronicle. Arizona lost Orlando Hudson for the rest of this season due to a wrist injury.

Our View: They could also claim him sooner if Oakland passes him through waivers, in which case the Athletics would get a compensation-round draft pick for him. Oakland already scooped up several top prospects ih the Dan Haren trade.
Mark Ellis, 2B, Oakland AthleticsSunday 8/10, 3:11 PM CT
Mark Ellis went 1-for-4 and registered Oakland's lone RBI in Sunday's 6-1 loss to Detroit. His hit was a single.

Our View: He collected two RBI in the three-game set against Detroit, but only hit .153 (2-for-13). He is only worth holding in deeper AL-only leagues.
Mark Ellis, 2B, Oakland AthleticsFriday 7/25, 7:01 AM CT
Mark Ellis is expected to return to Oakland's lineup Friday, according to the SF Chronicle. He missed two games with a sore right shoulder.

Our View: Ellis only registered three hits, with no homers or RBI, over his last six games, and fantasy owners should wait until he proves to be effective before considering him in anything but deeper AL-only leagues.
Mark Ellis, 2B, Oakland AthleticsWednesday 7/23, 8:47 PM CT
Mark Ellis, who is out of action because of a sore shoulder, hopes to return to the field on Friday, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Our View: Ellis has been able to take BP but has experienced some pain while throwing. Considering that Ellis had an extremely serious injury to the same shoulder in 2004, the team plans on being very careful with him this time around.
Mark Ellis, 2B, Oakland AthleticsTuesday 7/22, 6:56 PM CT
Mark Ellis was a late scratch in Tuesday night's lineup. He is experiencing pain in his right shoulder, according to MLB.com.

Our View: No word how serious the pain is at this point. An update should be coming soon.
Mark Ellis, 2B, Oakland AthleticsWednesday 7/16, 10:56 AM CT
San Francisco Chronicle writer Vlae Kershner believes the writing is on the wall for Mark Ellis' trade from Oakland. Ellis will be a free agent after the season, and the team has drafted second baseman Jemile Weeks and traded for second baseman/outfielder Eric Patterson.

Our View: Ellis wants to sign a long-term deal with Oakland, but he would likely command $6-7 million per year over at least three years, a deal that the A's probably would be unwilling to do.
Mark Ellis, 2B, Oakland AthleticsFriday 7/4, 3:39 PM CT
Mark Ellis does not have a good matchup tonight when the A's face off against the Chicago White Sox and Mark Buehrle. He hits .176 off him, with just six hits in 34 at-bats against the Chicago lefty.

Our View: Ellis is 6-for-17 in his last four games, but has a terrible time against Buehrle. If you normally deploy him on your fantasy team, look for other options.
Mark Ellis, 2B, Oakland AthleticsWednesday 7/2, 6:25 PM CT
Mark Ellis went 2-for-4 with two RBI in Wednesday's 7-4 loss to the Angels.

Our View: Ellis is quietly on a hot streak, as he registered two hits in three straight games, with four RBI over the span. He hit his ninth homer of the season last night as well.
Mark Ellis, 2B, Oakland AthleticsTuesday 7/1, 11:56 PM CT
Mark Ellis went 2-for-4 with a solo homer in Tuesday's 5-3 loss to the Angels. He also chipped in a stolen base, his 10th of the season.

Our View: That was his second multi-hit game in a row, and his first homer since June 17, when he clubbed two against the Diamondbacks.
Mark Ellis, 2B, Oakland AthleticsSunday 6/22, 7:56 PM CT
Mark Ellis was ejected for arguing balls and strikes but not before he went 3-for-5 with two runs scored for the A's.

Our View: Ellis has scored 18 times in 19 June games while hitting .308 as he has once again made himself fantasy relevant with a huge month at the plate.
Mark Ellis, 2B, Oakland AthleticsTuesday 6/17, 11:31 PM CT
Mark Ellis set the table and then some at the top of the A's order Tuesday, going 3-for-4 with a double and a pair of homers in a 15-1 spanking of the D'Backs. The second baseman scored four and drove in four on the night.

Our View: Ellis is always an underrated fantasy option at second. He is hitting .339 with four homers and 12 RBI this month.
Mark Ellis, 2B, Oakland AthleticsThursday 6/12, 11:52 PM CT
Mark Ellis had two more hits on Thursday night giving him eight in his last four games as his average has climbed from .232 to .250.

Our View: Ellis is likely available in many leagues given his poor work at the plate in the early going, but if you have a need in the middle of your infield, now would seem like a good time to look him up as it is clear that he is finally rolling at the plate.
Mark Ellis, 2B, Oakland AthleticsSunday 6/8, 7:51 PM CT
It took 12 innings to get the job done, but the Oakland A's earned the 7-3 win over the Angels in dramatic fashion as second baseman Mark Ellis hit a grand slam off the left-field found pole to cap the victory. Ellis went 2-for-6 on the day, leaving six men on base before the slam.

Our View: This was his sixth homer of the season and his second of the month, hitting just .167 through June thus far.
Mark Ellis, 2B, Oakland AthleticsWednesday 5/21, 9:16 PM CT
Mark Ellis will return to the lineup Friday for the A's, according to MLB.com. He hasn't played in 10 days because of a strained left hamstring. "I'm hoping it'll be fine," Ellis said. "But I won't know until I'm out there. When you play, you can't go 50 percent, you have to go all the way."

Our View: Ellis was six for his last 14 before the injury, so hopefully he can pick up where he left off.
Mark Ellis, 2B, Oakland AthleticsTuesday 5/20, 10:32 AM CT
Manager Bob Geren commented that ailing second baseman Mark Ellis was available to play in case of emergency on Monday, according to the SF Chronicle. He is nursing a strained left hamstring.

Our View: Ellis did some running before Monday's game and noted that his hamstring is feeling better every day but he now must regain strength in it, which sounds like he still could be a day or two away from returning.
Mark Ellis, 2B, Oakland AthleticsFriday 5/16, 8:27 AM CT
Mark Ellis missed the Cleveland series with a strained left hamstring, and his manager, Bob Geren, doesn't expect his second baseman to be in the lineup tonight, either, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Our View: Donnie Murphy will continue to spot start at second until Ellis is ready.
Mark Ellis, 2B, Oakland AthleticsThursday 5/15, 8:44 AM CT
Mark Ellis sat out his second straight game on Wednesday, according to the SF Chronicle. He has been hindered by a strained left hamstring, and expects to sit out Thursday's game against Cleveland as well.

Our View: Ellis still hopes to return this weekend against Atlanta. He has five stolen bases, eight doubles, and two triples, but may take it easy a bit when he returns. Adjust your lineups accordingly.
Mark Ellis, 2B, Oakland AthleticsWednesday 5/14, 9:33 AM CT
Mark Ellis remains day-to-day with a sore left hamstring. He sat out on Tuesday and doesn't expect to play on Wednesday, the Oakland Tribune reports. Donnie Murphy started in his place. "It's feeling better today than it did on Sunday," Ellis says. "It's not long term."

Our View: Fantasy owners in daily transaction leagues should bench Ellis for the time being.
Mark Ellis, 2B, Oakland AthleticsTuesday 5/13, 1:47 PM CT
Mark Ellis has been icing his sore left hamstring and hopes to be in the lineup when Oakland opens a series in Cleveland Tuesday night, according to CBSsports.com. Ellis said, "I don't think it's anything major. I can't even guess how long I'll need. Hopefully, I won't have to take any time off."

Our View: He hopes to return, but the team could be cautious and hold him out. Donnie Murphy would likely replace Ellis if needed.
Mark Ellis, 2B, Oakland AthleticsMonday 5/12, 10:26 AM CT
Mark Ellis left Sunday's game against Texas in the ninth inning due to a sore left hamstring, according to the SF Chronicle. Ellis said, "I don't think it's anything major. I can't even guess how long I'll need. Hopefully, I won't have to take any time off."

Our View: As of now, it's uncertain if Ellis will play Tuesday in Cleveland. Donnie Murphy replaced Ellis after sustaining the injury.
Mark Ellis, 2B, Oakland AthleticsWednesday 5/7, 6:27 PM CT
Mark Ellis broke an 0-for-17 spell with a hit in the sixth inning, and he went on to make it a joyous afternoon in Oakland as he also hit a game-winning home run in the 10th inning.

Our View: Ellis had a career best season last year with 19 HR and 76 RBI, and while it might be stretching it to expect him to repeat those numbers, it is clear that he isn't a .223 hitter. Perhaps this will spark him on a nice little hot streak.
Mark Ellis, 2B, Oakland AthleticsWednesday 4/9, 9:44 PM CT
Mark Ellis enjoyed a fantastic evening at the plate in support of the A’s 6-3 win over the Toronto Blue Jays, going 4-for-5 with a triple, two stolen bases, one RBI and one run scored. Ellis, like most second baggers, isn’t known as an offensive force, but tonight’s outing ranks as one of the best fantasy performances of the day.
Mark Ellis, 2B, Oakland AthleticsWednesday 4/9, 1:11 PM CT
Mark Ellis has a favorable track record against Dustin McGowan, today's opposing hurler for Toronto, according to MLB.com. Ellis is hitting 3-for-8 lifetime against McGowan, with one walk. This is good for Ellis, as he is currently stuck in a 5-for-31 slump.
Mark Ellis, 2B, Oakland AthleticsSaturday 4/5, 7:03 PM CT
Mark Ellis was the A's hitting star on Saturday as he scored a run and had three RBI in addition to two hits against the Indians. Ellis had started the year mired in a 1-for-17 slump, so this was a welcome bust out for the second baseman. Ellis hit 19 HR with 76 RBI last season, and while he may not be able to match those numbers this season he should still be a solid middle infield option in mixed leagues.
Mark Ellis, 2B, Oakland AthleticsTuesday 3/25, 9:43 AM CT
Mark Ellis blasted a homer in Oakland's season opener against Boston as he went 1-for-4 with one RBI. Ellis broke out with 19 home runs in 2007, and is off to a solid start in that department.
Mark Ellis, 2B, Oakland AthleticsTuesday 9/25, 11:53 AM CT
The A's have picked up Mark Ellis' $5 million option for the 2008 season, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.
