Toby Hall, C, Houston AstrosSunday 2/22, 11:05 AM CT
The Astros are going to void the contract of minor leaguer Toby Hall, according to the Houston Chronicle. He will be out for at least four months due to shoulder surgery to repair a torn labrum.

Our View: It's unclear whether the Astros or White Sox will pay for his surgery, as he was with Chicago two years ago when he was initially injured.

Astros catcher Toby Hall will miss at least four weeks with a torn labrum in his shoulder, according to the Sports Ticker.

Our View: Hall injured the shoulder earlier in spring camp while performing batting practice. A non-roster invitee, the 33-year-old Hall's chances of making the team will most certainly take a blow with this setback.

Toby Hall is still awaiting his diagnosis regarding his shoulder problem, according to the Houston Chronicle. He said, "It is not good. It is stiff."

Our View: The 33-year-old vet provides experience to the Astros, but would not hold any fantasy value as long as Humberto Quintero and J.R. Towles remain intact.

Toby Hall is being shut down from throwing in camp due to a shoulder problem, according to the Houston Chronicle. He is awaiting MRI results before being cleared to resume throwing.

Our View: Hall holds no fantasy value, but manager Cecil Cooper is hoping he will be healthy as he is the only real veteran catcher currently on the Astros' roster.

Catcher Toby Hall has been invited to the Astros spring training as a non-roster player, according to MLB.com. His 2009 option was declined by the White Sox.

Our View: Hall hit .260 last season in 127 at-bats. The Astros will likely go with either J.R. Towles or Humberto Quintero as their starter, but the team would like to have a veteran like Hall on the roster as well.

The White Sox declined their option on Toby Hall, according to the Associated Press. Hall would've made $2.25 million and will receive a $150,000 buyout instead.

Our View: This was a rather easy decision, as Hall only hit .260 this season with two home runs and seven RBI in 41 games. They should find another backup catcher of equal or better talent for cheaper.

White Sox catcher Toby Hall had to ice down his right shoulder - the same one he separated in 2007 - after his attempt to give teammate Jermaine Dye the traditional shaving cream pie-to-the-face was blocked by the Chicago outfielder following the team's victory over Seattle on Monday, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Our View: Hall says his shoulder is not injured, just a bit sore after the incident. His pie-in-the-face career is likely over after this.
Toby Hall, C, Houston AstrosWednesday 6/18, 9:50 PM CT
Toby Hall hit his first home run in two years and the Chicago White Sox scored an 8-2 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Wednesday night.

Our View: It was only the 18th hit of the season for the backup catcher and the two RBI raised his total to four in 57 at-bats.

Toby Hall has secured his role as A.J. Pierzynski's backup behind the plate, as fellow reserve catcher Paul Phillips was reassigned to the White Sox's minor league camp on Tuesday. Hall dealt with a dislocated shoulder last season and was brought along slowly this spring, but it appears he must be in good shape now.
Toby Hall, C, Houston AstrosSaturday 3/1, 8:22 AM CT
The White Sox are taking things slowly with Toby Hall this spring after he battled a dislocated shoulder all of last season, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. "They just want to be very cautious with me so we don't have any setbacks," Hall said. "I'm on a program, and it's coming along. I'm really doing almost everything that the rest of the team is doing, except playing in games. They want to make sure I'm ready to go by the final two weeks of the spring, so that's what we're shooting for." Hall opted against undergoing surgery to repair the joint, so he's hoping it will just heal with rehab. It's something to consider if he hits any bumps in the road once he does start playing in games.

Toby Hall spent the night at a hospital Tuesday night while he received five bags of fluid intravenously, the AP reports. Hall was taken out after playing only four innings during a 7-5 loss to Florida earlier that day. "I get back from the road trip and (my son has) been sick and I got it," Hall said. "I rarely ever get sick and that happened to be the day I was playing. If I wasn't playing, I can hide out in the bullpen and throw up over there."

Toby Hall, who dislocated his right shoulder in a spring training game on March 25, was examined by Dr. Lewis Yocum in Anaheim and given the green light to go on a minor league rehab assignment, according to the AP. "The doctor said I was way ahead of schedule," Hall said. "When it happened, they were thinking surgery. But in my mind, I was going to give it a good month and a half and see if it's a go."

Toby Hall has been taking batting practice and played long-toss Friday for the first time since tearing the labrum in his right shoulder, according to the Daily Southtown. "There's no popping, which is good, because the last 10 throws on my long toss, I tried to do or die and let it fly and there was no popping," Hall said. "Today we started off throwing to the mound and then throwing to second and then long toss. That seemed to pass that test for them." He's ahead of schedule in his recovery but is expected to require a rehab stint before being activated.
Toby Hall, C, Houston AstrosSunday 4/22, 6:47 AM CT
For the first time since tearing the labrum in his right shoulder, Toby Hall played long toss and caught a bullpen session on Saturday, according to the Daily Southtown. "Obviously I can't throw anybody out yet, but (catching the bullpen) the first step out there," Hall said. "Just getting out there, getting my legs under me." He's ahead of schedule in his recovery and will hit in the cage Monday.
Toby Hall, C, Houston AstrosThursday 4/19, 6:20 AM CT
Toby Hall took a positive step Wednesday in his recovery from a torn labrum in his right shoulder, according to the Daily Southtown. "I did probably eight swings, and it felt weird, so I hit one-armed (Tuesday)," Hall said. "Today, I did 30 and let it fly. I did everything today. Threw harder, swung. I feel good about today. It was awesome." He's hoping to avoid surgery to repair the problem.

Toby Hall says that if his shoulder does not show enough progress by the end of May, he will undergo season-ending surgery, the Chicago Sun-Times reports. "I don't want to push it too far, and all of a sudden, I'm late for [next] spring," Hall said. "I want to be smart with it. As long as I can start playing catch and get that feeling of it not popping out. That's the main thing, getting that going."
Toby Hall, C, Houston AstrosMonday 4/16, 6:15 AM CT
Toby Hall made 80 throws from as far as 90 feet on Sunday and said his injured shoulder felt fine, according to the Daily Southtown. He's hoping to avoid surgery to repair a torn labrum in the joint and will be re-evaluated tomorrow.
Toby Hall, C, Houston AstrosMonday 4/2, 9:40 AM CT
Toby Hall thinks he can avoid season-ending labrum surgery and perhaps return by May, the Chicago Tribune reports. Hall said his rehabilitation will consist of strengthening the area around the tear for at least another week before he starts throwing. "If I can't throw in a month, then obviously I have to get it cut on," Hall said. "But with the strength I have right now, we are way ahead of schedule."
Toby Hall, C, Houston AstrosMonday 3/26, 3:59 PM CT

Hall suffered the injury during Sunday's game when he dove for a ball while playing first base. "I'm just really frustrated right now," Hall said. "I was going to help this team this year. It's one of those things where you really can't put it into words."

Manager Ozzie Guillen does not plan to platoon Toby Hall with A.J. Pierzysnki, but he did say that Hall would get plenty of playing time against lefties, according to the Chicago Tribune. "I'm not going to platoon A.J.," Guillen said. "In the meanwhile, [Hall] is going to push A.J. to get better. It's great for us to [have] somebody who we can really count on with day games [after night games], [against] lefties. We have a lot of tough lefties in our division. And [Hall] will … play a lot of games."
