Mike Maroth, P, Toronto Blue JaysFriday 3/27, 5:10 PM CT
Mike Maroth was released by the Blue Jays on Friday, according to the Globe and Mail.

Our View: It's safe to say that Maroth will not be the Jays fifth starter in 2009. Look for a desperate team to take a chance on him. Washington seems perennially desperate. Maybe they'll come calling.
Mike Maroth, P, Toronto Blue JaysTuesday 3/3, 4:20 PM CT
Mike Maroth did not look too sharp against Team Canada on Tuesday, giving up two runs off one hit and three walks in two innings of work, though he did strike out three.

Our View: In Maroth's defense, he was facing a rather solid lineup that featured the likes of MLB stars Russell Martin, Joey Votto, Justin Morneau and Jason Bay slotted from Nos. 2 through 5 in the lineup. Still, Maroth needs to look better if he wants to separate himself from Matt Clement and the other suitors vying for the No. 5 spot in Toronto's starting rotation.

Mike Maroth will continue to pitch despite soreness in his left knee, according to MLB.com. GM J.P. Ricciardi said, "There is something in there. He might have some damage in there that requires surgery, but he thinks he can fight through it. That is really his call."

Our View: Maroth realizes that he cannot afford to miss time as one of eight Jays' hurlers competing for a rotation spot, but he should now be avoided in fantasy leagues as an injury risk.
Mike Maroth, P, Toronto Blue JaysWednesday 2/18, 3:08 PM CT
Mike Maroth has been shut down for the time being and sent for an MRI to evaluate soreness in his left knee, according to MLB.com.

Our View: He cannot afford to miss time as he is one of eight Jays' hurlers in the running for a rotation spot.
Mike Maroth, P, Toronto Blue JaysWednesday 1/28, 4:43 PM CT
The Blue Jays feel that there is a chance that pitcher Mike Maroth could win the fifth spot in their rotation with a good spring training. He signed a minor league deal with Toronto in December.

Our View: Maroth had shoulder surgery in May but he will also have to overcome a career filled with mediocre stuff. He has a lifetime 5.05 ERA to go with a 50-67 record.
Mike Maroth, P, Toronto Blue JaysTuesday 12/30, 2:43 PM CT
Mike Maroth has inked a minor league deal with the Blue Jays, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: He will be looking to bounce back from May shoulder surgery, but is not expected to make a favorable fantasy impact with the Blue Jays. He carries a lifetime 5.05 ERA over 918 innings.
Mike Maroth, P, Toronto Blue JaysWednesday 11/26, 9:52 AM CT
Mike Maroth, who underwent shoulder surgery in May and was released by the Royals, said he intends to pitch in 2009, according to the Detroit Free Press. He said, "My arm feels really strong. I've already seen signs of a difference in how free my arm feels when I throw a ball."

Our View: The 31-year-old hurler held a poor 1.87 WHIP over 116.1 innings in 2007 (with Detroit and St. Louis), and is not likely going to be fantasy worthy if he finds a new MLB home in 2009.
Mike Maroth, P, Toronto Blue JaysFriday 5/2, 9:05 AM CT
The Royals released Mike Maroth Thursday. Maroth had been at Triple-A Omaha, where he held a 14.09 ERA over 7 2/3 innings.
Mike Maroth, P, Toronto Blue JaysThursday 3/6, 12:18 PM CT
Mike Maroth has been pushed back again after being slowed by tightness in his shoulder this spring, notes the KC Star. The veteran left was scratched from Thursday's work, his scheduled spring debut, and instead threw live batting practice on the practice fields. “He hasn’t had a setback,” Hillman said. “We’re just being careful. We want to make sure that soreness has totally disappeared." Maroth has little fantasy value, even in AL-only leagues and at this point is a long shot to make the rotation.
Mike Maroth, P, Toronto Blue JaysSunday 3/2, 10:24 AM CT
Mike Maroth is slated to test his sore shoulder by throwing in a bullpen on Monday, according to the KC Star. "I really let it go last Wednesday," he said, "and I felt it the next day. We just backed off." So long as everything goes well with his sore shoulder, Maroth should make his spring debut Thursday, as he tries to claim a spot in the Royals rotation.
Mike Maroth, P, Toronto Blue JaysFriday 2/8, 7:16 PM CT
The Royals signed Mike Maroth to a minor league contract on Friday, according to the AP. Maroth, who split the 2007 season with the Tigers and Cardinals, will be invited to the Royals' major league camp. He was awful last year, holding a 6.89 ERA and a 1.87 WHIP in 116 1/3 innings.
Mike Maroth, P, Toronto Blue JaysThursday 10/25, 11:13 AM CT
The Cardinals released Mike Maroth on Tuesday. Maroth was not under contract next year but was arbitration-eligible, meaning the Cards controlled his rights for 2008 if they wanted. Given how Maroth performed after joining the Cards in June (10.66 ERA in 38 innings), it doesn't come as a surprise that St. Louis cut the lefty loose.
Mike Maroth, P, Toronto Blue JaysSunday 9/2, 6:59 PM CT
Mike Maroth has been activated from the DL and will take Anthony Reyes' spot in the rotation. Maroth has officially been out because of elbow tendinitis, but many believe a phantom injury was created in order for Maroth to have some time to work on his mechanics. "For me the game is location, and if I don't to the right release point I'm not going to be able to make my pitch," Maroth said in the AP. "It's going to be up in the zone and that's when I'm going to get hurt."
Mike Maroth, P, Toronto Blue JaysMonday 8/6, 8:21 PM CT
The Cardinals placed Mike Maroth on the disabled list Monday, according to the AP. The teams says he is dealing with a bout of "elbow tendinitis," but we wouldn't be surprised if he wasn't hurt at all. Maroth had allowed 26 earned runs in his last 11 1/3 innings of work, and it's clear the Cards needed to make some sort of move with the left-hander, because he's been absolutely useless on the mound.
Mike Maroth, P, Toronto Blue JaysSunday 8/5, 11:42 AM CT
The Cardinals are expected to make a roster move involving Mike Maroth in the next two days, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Maroth has allowed nine runs in his last 2 1/3 innings of work, and he's simply unusable right now.
Mike Maroth, P, Toronto Blue JaysMonday 7/23, 11:13 AM CT
The struggling Mike Maroth will pitch out of the Cardinals bullpen for the next couple days in an effort to try and sharpen his command. Maroth holds an 8.17 ERA in his five starts with the Cardinals and gave up 10 runs in his last outing. "There are some adjustments I need to make," he said in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. "I've had to do that my entire career. I need to do it now. It's not something I haven't dealt with before." Maroth is expected to start one of Saturday's doubleheader games, but if he struggles again in that start, he could be replaced in the rotation by Anthony Reyes, who will be recalled to start the other game of the doubleheader.
Mike Maroth, P, Toronto Blue JaysSaturday 7/21, 2:04 AM CT
Because of his recent struggles, Mike Maroth may be skipped in the rotation next week, according to the AP. In his last four starts, spanning 18 innings, he's allowed 22 earned runs. He can't be considered in any format right now.
Mike Maroth, P, Toronto Blue JaysMonday 6/25, 9:06 PM CT
The Cardinals added Mike Maroth to their roster on Monday after acquiring him last Friday in a trade with the Tigers for a player to be named later. He held the Mets to one run on two hits and two walks while striking out four in seven 1/3 innings in his St. Louis debut Monday night. He also picked off two runners at first base and went 1-for-2 with a stolen base.
Mike Maroth, P, Toronto Blue JaysFriday 6/22, 11:45 AM CT
FOX Sports.com's Ken Rosenthal is reporting that the Cardinals have acquired Mike Maroth from the Tigers. It isn't known what the Cardinals have given up in the deal. Maroth has gone 5-2 with the Tigers this year but sports a 5.06 ERA and 1.66 WHIP with a hideous 28/33 K/BB rate. That said, he will be an immediate upgrade at the back end of the Redbirds' rotation.
Mike Maroth, P, Toronto Blue JaysThursday 6/14, 8:52 AM CT
The Tigers have acknowledged that starter Mike Maroth is on the trading block. According to the Detroit Free Press, the club is actively shopping Maroth due to the presence of Andrew Miller and the imminent return of injured starters Kenny Rogers and Nate Robertson from the disabled list.
Mike Maroth, P, Toronto Blue JaysThursday 5/17, 9:01 PM CT
Mike Maroth was a late scratch for the Tigers' first game against the Red Sox Thursday. He had become ill before the game and wasn't able to go, according to the AP. Zach Miner was recalled from Triple-A Toledo to start in place of Maroth. It's not clear when Maroth will make his next start, or whether he might bump prospect Andrew Miller from his season debut on Friday. Maroth will have to prove he's healthy before the Tigers have to make a decision.
Mike Maroth, P, Toronto Blue JaysFriday 3/16, 6:03 PM CT
Mike Maroth, who was sidelined for much of last year with elbow problems, has been throwing without pain this spring, according to the AP. "I haven't had any problems from Day 1, which is a good sign," Maroth said. He allowed three runs in five innings against the Phillies on Saturday.
Mike Maroth, P, Toronto Blue JaysFriday 1/19, 8:50 AM CT
Mike Maroth will get a chance to be the Tigers No. 5 starter this year, though Jim Leyland is not handing him a spot, the Detroit Free Press reports. Maroth is coming off elbow surgery last summer. Already set in the Detroit rotation are Kenny Rogers, Nate Robertson, Justin Verlander and Jeremy Bonderman.
Mike Maroth, P, Toronto Blue JaysThursday 9/28, 9:18 AM CT
Mike Maroth will not be a part of the Tigers postseason roster, according to the Detroit News. "I am sure I broke a heart there and I feel terrible about it myself," manager Jim Leyland said. "He's been here, he's been through all the tough times and he's a big part of what we've done. And if he hadn't been injured, we wouldn't be having this discussion right now." Maroth holds an 11.12 ERA in his last five outings.
Mike Maroth, P, Toronto Blue JaysWednesday 9/6, 4:41 PM CT
The activated Mike Maroth from the DL Wednesday. Maroth has been out May 26 with irritation of the left elbow and he also underwent arthroscopic surgery for the removal of bone chips on June 2. He will pitch out of the Tigers bullpen. To make room on the roster for Maroth, Detroit designated pitcher Chris Spurling for assignment.
Mike Maroth, P, Toronto Blue JaysWednesday 9/6, 8:26 AM CT

Mike Maroth, P, Toronto Blue JaysMonday 9/4, 10:10 AM CT
The Detroit News reports that the Tigers are expected to activate Mike Maroth from the disabled list today. Maroth will initially be used out of the bullpen.
Mike Maroth, P, Toronto Blue JaysThursday 8/31, 8:06 AM CT
Mike Maroth cut short a bullpen session yesterday because he said he still felt "pinching" in his left elbow, according to the Detroit News. That's the same surgically repaired joint that's kept him on the disabled list. It's not clear exactly when he'll be activated, though he's expected to work from the bullpen upon his return.
Mike Maroth, P, Toronto Blue JaysSunday 8/27, 5:58 PM CT
Manager Jim Leyland announced on Sunday that Mike Maroth wouldn't be activated from the DL until the rosters expand on Sept. 1, according to the AP. And when Maroth does return, he'll be used out of the bullpen. "We'll put him in the bullpen," Leyland said. "I'm not planning on Mike Maroth being in the rotation the rest of the year." It was originally thought that Maroth would be activated in time to start on Wednesday.
Mike Maroth, P, Toronto Blue JaysSunday 8/27, 7:46 AM CT
So long as everything checks out with Mike Maroth's surgically repaired elbow, he will come off the disabled list to start Wednesday's game, according to the Detroit Free Press. "If Maroth can pitch Wednesday, he's pitching Wednesday for the Detroit Tigers," manager Jim Leyland said. "If not, I'll have someone else pitch."
Mike Maroth, P, Toronto Blue JaysFriday 8/25, 11:01 PM CT
Manager Jim Leyland still isn't sure when Mike Maroth, who had surgery to remove bone chips on June 2, will return to the Tigers rotation, according to the AP. Maroth complained of some soreness after his last rehab start. "If he's tender, he's not going to pitch in a big league game," Leyland said. "I'm not worried about Mike Maroth until he tells me he's ready to pitch in a big league game. When he does, we'll have to make a decision." Maroth hasn't pitched for the Tigers since May 25.
Mike Maroth, P, Toronto Blue JaysWednesday 8/23, 2:48 PM CT
Even though Mike Maroth felt tenderness in his elbow in a bullpen session on Tuesday, it shouldn't affect his next rehab start, according to the Tigers website. Maroth is scheduled to pitch for Triple-A Toledo on Friday. There is a possibility that this will be Maroth's final rehab outing.

Mike Maroth, P, Toronto Blue JaysFriday 8/18, 9:01 PM CT

Mike Maroth, P, Toronto Blue JaysWednesday 8/16, 12:13 PM CT
In his last rehab start, Mike Maroth gave up four runs on seven hits in five innings, according to the Tigers website. Manager Jim Leyland was concerned, but not because of the numbers that Maroth posted. Instead, Leyland didn't like the fact that Maroth was throwing his fastball 89-90 MPH, which was actually harder than he had been pitching at the beginning of the season. "He was probably throwing a little bit harder last night," Leyland said. "He was throwing 89-90, and that's not his effective zone, in my opinion." Leyland prefers to see Maroth throw in the low-to-mid 80's and keep hitters off balance.
Mike Maroth, P, Toronto Blue JaysTuesday 8/15, 8:48 AM CT
Mike Maroth, on the DL with irritation in his elbow, could rejoin the Tigers after one more minor league rehab start, according to the Detroit News. In his second rehab start on Monday, he went five innings, throwing 74 pitches and allowing four runs on seven hits.

Mike Maroth, P, Toronto Blue JaysMonday 8/7, 8:21 AM CT
