Chris Snelling, LF, Pittsburgh PiratesWednesday 6/10, 2:53 PM CT
The Pittsburgh Pirates have acquired Chris Snelling from the Padres for future considerations according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Our View: Snelling is a career .244 hitter in 93 games. He does little more for the Pirate organization than provide outfield depth.

Chris Snelling has signed a minor league deal with the Padres, according to MLB.com.

Our View: The 27-year-old outfielder has been hindered by injuries over his career, but was picked up by San Diego after batting .385 with Team Australia in the first round of the World Baseball Classic. He could earn a bench role with the Padres this season if he can just stay healthy.

The Phillies activated outfielder Chris Snelling on Monday night, MLB.com confirms. Outfielder T.J. Bohn was optioned to Triple-A to open up a spot. Snelling was out due to left knee inflammation.

Our View: Based on Snelling's history, the over/under on his return to the DL is 15 days.
Chris Snelling, LF, Pittsburgh PiratesTuesday 5/6, 10:51 AM CT
Chris Snelling is still feeling soreness in his inflamed left knee, according to the Philadelphia Enquirer.

Our View: The former prized prospect for the Mariners hit a home run over three brief at-bats this season before landing on the DL. He could develop into a star, but very poor durability could prevent that from ever happening.
Chris Snelling, LF, Pittsburgh PiratesSunday 4/20, 4:29 PM CT
Outfielder Chris Snelling (left knee) was put on the disabled list on Sunday, retroactive to April 17, notes MLB.com.

Our View: The oft-injured Snelling was once a highly touted prospect for the Mariners, but was never able to stay healthy suffering multiple knee injuries during his Seattle tenure.

The Phillies acquired Chris Snelling from the Rays Tuesday in exchange for cash considerations, according to the AP. "Chris has always had a great bat, but he has battled some injuries in the past," Phillies assistant general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. said. "We feel he will be healthy this coming year and adds a lefthanded hitter and some depth to our outfield." Snelling played in just 30 games in 2007 due to a knee injury, and it's unlikely he'll ever hold any fantasy value outside of NL-only play because of his durability issues.

The Devil Rays claimed Chris Snelling off waivers Thursday. Snelling played in just 30 games last year due to injuries. He has talent, but he's never been able to stay healthy long enough to develop.

He suffered the injury when Mike Sweeney's foot clipped him on a close play at first base. "It doesn't feel too good," said Snelling. "I know what the doctors told me (contusion), but in my mind, I'm always worried." It's unclear if Snelling will be forced to miss any time with the injury, but given his injury history, expect the A's to be cautious with him.
Chris Snelling, LF, Pittsburgh PiratesWednesday 5/2, 10:43 PM CT
Chris Snelling was traded from the Nationals to the Athletics Wednesday in exchange for Ryan Langerhans. Given the injuries Oakland has all over the map right now, Snelling will probably get a chance to play right away, at least some of the time, with the A's.

Chris Snelling has started the last three games in right field, with Ichiro shifting over to center, according to the Mariners website. It appears as if the Mariners have started a platoon where Snelling will get the nod against right-handed pitchers. Against lefties, Ichiro will move back to right and Willie Bloomquist will play center field.

In order to get the bat of Chris Snelling into the lineup, the Mariners shifted Ichiro to center field on Sunday, according to the official team website. However, it is unclear how often this will happen. Manager Mike Hargrove likes the idea of getting Snelling into the lineup more often, but he wants to make sure that Ichiro is comfortable in center field. Pay attention to where Ichiro plays in the field in the near future. It will determine how much playing time Snelling will get.
