Ty Wigginton, 3B, Baltimore OriolesSunday 1/24, 10:29 AM CT
With Baltimore's recent additions of Miguel Tejada and Garrett Atkins, Ty Wigginton could be traded before the season begins, according to MASN.

Our View: Tejada and Atkins are essentially better versions of Wigginton, so this news is not at all surprising. A move to the National League would probably be best for his career. Stay tuned.
Ty Wigginton, 3B, Baltimore OriolesWednesday 9/30, 8:50 PM CT
Ty Wigginton hit a pinch-hit two-run home run in the eighth inning on Wednesday night, but couldn't bring the Orioles all the way back, as they lost 5-3 in Tampa Bay.

Our View: It was just Wigginton's 11th home run of the season, a disappointment after he hit 23 last year for Houston.
Ty Wigginton, 3B, Baltimore OriolesMonday 6/29, 9:17 PM CT
Ty Wigginton went 2-for-4 in tonight's 4-0 loss to the Red Sox at Camden Yards. Both of his knocks were singles.

Our View: The Orioles only had six hits in the game, all singles. Wigginton is riding a seven-game hitting streak, and is batting .404 (17-for-42) in June.
Ty Wigginton, 3B, Baltimore OriolesMonday 6/29, 11:43 AM CT
The Reds have interest in Ty Wigginton, according to FoxSports.com.

Our View: The Reds covet a right handed bat, and Wigginton has hit 28 home runs in his last 164 games. But the Reds apparently want an outfielder more than an infielder, and Wigginton plays primarily in the dirt. He has played 47 career games in the outfield, though, so he wouldn't be a total unknown there, just unideal.
Ty Wigginton, 3B, Baltimore OriolesSunday 6/14, 3:25 PM CT
Ty Wigginton homered twice in Baltimore's 11-2 win over the Braves on Sunday. He finished the game 3-for-4 with four runs scored, three RBI, and a walk.

Our View: Wigginton played both third base and second base in the game. His multi-position eligibility is likely all that keeps him on the radar in fantasy leagues. He only starts a couple of games per week and he's hitting only .235 on the season.
Ty Wigginton, 3B, Baltimore OriolesSaturday 5/23, 3:25 PM CT
Ty Wigginton is slated to start at first base in tonight's game at Washington in place of the struggling Aubrey Huff, according to MASN Sports.

Our View: Wigginton is familiar with the NL as he previously served with the Astros, and is worth consideration if you have him on your fantasy roster. He collected two hits in two of his last three games as well.
Ty Wigginton, 3B, Baltimore OriolesWednesday 5/20, 9:14 PM CT
Ty Wigginton went 2-for-4 on Wednesday with a home run, a run scored, and two RBI in the Orioles' 11-4 loss to the Yankees.

Our View: Wigginton has not been producing for the Orioles this season, and his fantasy value is limited right now with his .220 batting average. Stay away from him in mixed leagues for sure, and he is a sub-par play in AL-only leagues as well.
Ty Wigginton, 3B, Baltimore OriolesWednesday 4/15, 11:10 AM CT
Ty Wigginton will be starting at third base while Melvin Mora in on the disabled list, according to the Baltimore Sun.

Our View: Regular playing time and at-bats should make Wigginton fantasy relevant for now, but don't expect it to last for long. He will be back to a utility role when Mora returns.
Ty Wigginton, 3B, Baltimore OriolesTuesday 4/14, 5:33 PM CT
According to the Baltimore Sun, Ty Wigginton will get the start at third base tonight against the Texas Rangers.

Our View: Wigginton is filling in for the injured Melvin Mora who is suffering from a progressing hamstring injury. Wigginton is hitting .294 with two RBI in 17 at-bats this season.
Ty Wigginton, 3B, Baltimore OriolesSunday 3/22, 4:06 PM CT
Ty Wigginton started at third base and played all nine innings in Baltimore's 5-4 loss to St. Louis on Sunday. He went 3-for-4 with a double, three RBI, and a run scored.

Our View: Melvin Mora figures to start most of the games at third base for the Orioles, but Wigginton will find at-bats somewhere this season. The team plans on using him to backup their corner infield and corner outfield spots. Regardless, without an injury to one of the players in front of him, he does not figure to hold much fantasy value.
Ty Wigginton, 3B, Baltimore OriolesWednesday 3/11, 3:50 PM CT
Ty Wigginton had a nice day at the plate Wednesday going 3-for-3 with an RBI in the Orioles loss to the Twins.

Our View: This performance gives Wigginton a .286 average with 5 RBI in spring training. Not bad, but he has little value outside of AL-only leagues as he is essentially a utility man.
Ty Wigginton, 3B, Baltimore OriolesMonday 3/9, 3:54 PM CT
Ty Wigginton went 1-for-3 with three RBI and a run scored in Monday's 9-8 loss to the Mets. His hit was a two-run homer, his first of spring training.

Our View: Wigginton should provide fantasy owners in AL-only leagues with a decent source for power in 2009 while serving as a utility man with the Orioles.
Ty Wigginton, 3B, Baltimore OriolesWednesday 3/4, 4:27 PM CT
Ty Wigginton had a nice day Wednesday in an exhibition win over the Dominican Republic. He went 2-for-2 with a homerun, double and three RBI.

Our View: A quality showing from Wigginton, but he still has minimal value outside of AL-only leagues.
Ty Wigginton, 3B, Baltimore OriolesWednesday 2/25, 3:57 PM CT
Ty Wigginton went 1-for-3 with an RBI single in Wednesday's 9-3 loss to the Mets. He left three men on base.

Our View: He started at third base in place of Melvin Mora and batted seventh in the lineup. He is expected to work mainly at first base and as a DH this season, and should see enough at-bats to make him useful in AL-only leagues.
Ty Wigginton, 3B, Baltimore OriolesTuesday 2/10, 3:13 PM CT
The Orioles have finalized Ty Wigginton's two-year deal that is believed to be worth $6 million, according to the Associated Press. The club designated infielder Scott Moore for assignment to make room for Wigginton on the 40-man roster.

Our View: He can play several positions, but the Orioles expect to employ him mainly at first base and as a DH. Wigginton, who crushed 23 homers with Houston last season, should rack up enough at-bats to be useful in AL-only leagues.
Ty Wigginton, 3B, Baltimore OriolesTuesday 2/10, 12:48 PM CT
Ty Wigginton's deal with the Orioles is expected to be finalized either today or tomorrow, according to the Baltimore Sun.

Our View: The club called him in for further examination, but apparently they found no problem that would hinder his performance for 2009. Wigginton should see time at first base, in the outfield and at DH, and should rack up enough at-bats to be useful in AL-only leagues.
Ty Wigginton, 3B, Baltimore OriolesMonday 2/9, 1:51 PM CT
The Orioles are going to further examine newly acquired infielder Ty Wigginton this week, according to the Baltimore Sun.

Our View: That could mean the club found something on his physical last Thursday. We are not speculating that there may be a problem, but his contract was supposed to be finalized Friday, and it wasn't. Stay tuned for further updates.
Ty Wigginton, 3B, Baltimore OriolesTuesday 2/3, 12:22 PM CT
The Baltimore Sun reports that Ty Wigginton's new two-year deal with the Orioles is worth $6 million and pending a physical.

Our View: The Orioles initially structured Wigginton's deal for one year, but after learning that other teams were interested in his services, they upped the ante to two years Monday night.
Ty Wigginton, 3B, Baltimore OriolesTuesday 2/3, 8:36 AM CT
Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports.com reports that the Baltimore Orioles have signed infielder Ty Wigginton to a two-year contract. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Our View: Wigginton figures to see time at first base, as well as the outfield, when he's not filling in for the departed Kevin Millar as the Orioles' designated hitter.
Ty Wigginton, 3B, Baltimore OriolesFriday 1/30, 4:42 PM CT
The Reds have had contact with Ty Wigginton and his agent but are primarily only looking for bench help, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. "I talked to his agent," Reds GM Walt Jocketty said. "They're getting close to desperate stage. But we're really only looking at bench help. I think that's the only type of guys we'll bring in -- if we do that."

Our View: It sounds like the Reds will not make any major moves for the rest of the offseason, based on Jocketty's comments. Wigginton is capable of starting and with the Reds already having a starting third baseman in Edwin Encarnacion, he doesn't make much sense for them.
Ty Wigginton, 3B, Baltimore OriolesSaturday 1/24, 6:33 PM CT
The Phillies are interested in free agent third baseman Ty Wigginton, according to the Philadelphia Daily News.

Our View: The defending World Champs have been looking for an offensive upgrade at third base all offseason over Pedro Feliz. Wigginton cranked 23 home runs last season in just 386 at-bats, so he could provide even more power to an infield that already includes Ryan Howard, Chase Utley, and Jimmy Rollins.
Ty Wigginton, 3B, Baltimore OriolesTuesday 1/13, 1:59 PM CT
The Baltimore Sun reports that the Orioles are interested in acquiring infielder Ty Wigginton to play first base, but the team does not want to give him more than a one-year deal.

Our View: Wigginton is hesitant to accept anything but a short-term deal, though the lack of discussion about him with other teams may change things. He hit 23 home runs in the band box that is Minute Maid Park, but he's had much less success at Camden Yards in his career, hitting just .234 with a .280 OBP in 50 plate appearances there.
Ty Wigginton, 3B, Baltimore OriolesTuesday 12/23, 7:21 AM CT
The Twins seek an upgrade at third base, but are not believed to be pursuing Ty Wigginton, according to the Star Tribune.

Our View: Wigginton hits for a solid average and has "pop" in his bat, but the Twins may not be interested as he is not strong defensively.
Ty Wigginton, 3B, Baltimore OriolesSunday 12/21, 8:55 AM CT
Interest among MLB clubs is growing for Ty Wigginton, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View: The Reds, Indians, and Giants are interested, and the Reds would like him as a super-sub and an option for the outfield. Pittsburgh likes him as well, but he is not interested in playing for them again.
Ty Wigginton, 3B, Baltimore OriolesThursday 12/18, 12:40 PM CT
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that Ty Wigginton is not at all interested in re-joining the Pirates.

Our View: Some reports suggested that the Pirates would make a push for Wigginton, but this latest information makes that appear to be a long shot.
Ty Wigginton, 3B, Baltimore OriolesWednesday 12/17, 12:02 PM CT
Free-agent infielder Ty Wigginton wants a contract that exceeds the three years and $17.5 million deal that Casey Blake received, reports the Minneapolis Star Tribune.

Our View: Wigginton has decent power, and has hit 24, 22 and 23 home runs over the last three years, respectively. His big home and road splits last year are a warning sign for fantasy owners, however, so his value will be partially determined by where he signs.
Ty Wigginton, 3B, Baltimore OriolesMonday 12/15, 8:02 AM CT
The Pirates are interested in Ty Wigginton after the Astros let him go Friday, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Our View: Wigginton would provide the Pirates with the right-handed power bat that they covet. Wigginton was with the Pirates in 2004-05 and can play both corner infield spots as well as second base and the outfield.
Ty Wigginton, 3B, Baltimore OriolesSunday 12/14, 9:12 AM CT
The Twins and Giants would be obvious fits to sign Ty Wigginton, according to FOXSports.com. Meanwhile, the Indians are not interested due to his poor defense.

Our View: Wigginton is also capable of playing the outfield and second base, so it is not surprising that he has drawn so much interest.
Ty Wigginton, 3B, Baltimore OriolesSaturday 12/13, 1:11 PM CT
The Cincinnati Reds could be interested in Ty Wigginton, according to MLB.com. "Wigginton if we don't find the outfielder we want. Taveras could be the center fielder-type guy," Reds general manager Walt Jocketty said.

Our View: Wigginton would be useful in all fantasy formats if he hits in Great American Ballpark, one of the most home run-friendly parks in baseball.
Ty Wigginton, 3B, Baltimore OriolesFriday 12/12, 10:49 PM CT
Ty Wigginton was non-tendered on Friday by the Astros, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Wigginton could draw a lot of interest around the league, especially from the Twins after they missed out on Casey Blake.
Ty Wigginton, 3B, Baltimore OriolesWednesday 12/10, 4:31 PM CT
Fox Sports confirmed reports that the Astros are shopping Ty Wigginton as part of their effort to pare salary, and the most interest right now is from Arizona. The Twins, Blue Jays and Dodgers have also had some interest.

Our View: Wigginton, who played third base in Houston but played second a fair amount in 2004 and 2006-07, would replace free agent Orlando Hudson at second for the Diamondbacks. He hit 23 home runs in 386 at-bats last season.
Ty Wigginton, 3B, Baltimore OriolesWednesday 12/10, 9:37 AM CT
The Jays have talked about Ty Wigginton as a potential fit at third base, according to the Toronto Sun.

Our View: Wigginton blasted 23 homers with Houston in 2008, but his power potential could be hindered by playing his home games at the hitter-friendly Rogers Center.
Ty Wigginton, 3B, Baltimore OriolesTuesday 12/9, 8:01 PM CT
The Twins have had internal discussions about Ty Wigginton, according to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune.

Our View: Wigginton hit 23 home runs in just 386 at-bats for the Astros in 2008, so he could provide a significant power boost for the Twins in 2009 while also filling a hole in their infield.
Ty Wigginton, 3B, Baltimore OriolesMonday 12/8, 7:33 PM CT
Numerous teams are said to be after Astros infielder/outfielder Ty Wigginton, reports MLB.com.

Our View: Wigginton was excellent last year for Houston, hitting 23 home runs with a .285 average, .350 OBP and .526 SLG. The Twins are said to be one of the teams involved.
Ty Wigginton, 3B, Baltimore OriolesWednesday 11/19, 7:38 AM CT
Richard Justice of the Houston Chronicle believes Ty Wigginton is likely going to be dealt in the next few weeks.

Our View: The team is looking to trim their payroll, and Wigginton is viewed as expendable, namely because their high profile stars like Roy Oswalt and Lance Berkman are untouchable. As for replacing Wigginton at third base, Chris Johnson is considered the best option in their thinned out farm system.
Ty Wigginton, 3B, Baltimore OriolesFriday 9/26, 10:14 PM CT
Ty Wigginton went 1-for-4 with a solo homer in Friday's 5-4 win over the Braves.

Our View: Wigginton now has 23 homers, and is one away from tying his season-high. That was only his second homer in September.
Ty Wigginton, 3B, Baltimore OriolesThursday 9/18, 7:52 AM CT
Ty Wigginton returned to the Astros' lineup Wednesday for the first time since he tweaked his left groin muscle on September 2, according to the Houston Chronicle. He said, "I just wanted to be on the field as fast as I could. That was my goal. With the way guys on the other teams had thrown the ball the last three days, I don’t think me being in the lineup is going to change much."

Our View: Wigginton went 0-for-4 in his first game back (against Florida), but was the Astros' hottest hitter in August with 12 homers. Wigginton looks to serve as a favorable source of power for fantasy owners with less than two weeks to go in the season.
Ty Wigginton, 3B, Baltimore OriolesWednesday 9/17, 7:58 AM CT
Ty Wigginton, who has been dealing with a strained left groin, was available to pinch hit Tuesday night against the Marlins, according to the Houston Chronicle. Wigginton simply stated, "I'm making progress."

Our View: He may be ready to return to the starting lineup Wednesday. Wigginton hit for a solid average (.294) this season, and has been a favorable source of power with 22 homers over 100 games.
Ty Wigginton, 3B, Baltimore OriolesWednesday 9/10, 9:19 PM CT
Ty Wigginton (groin) suffered a setback on Wednesday and had to shut down his workout when he attempted to run, according to the Astros Official Website. "I think if I would have cranked it up at all, it would have grabbed," Wigginton said. "I didn't want it to grab and set it back again, so I had to shut it down. So it wasn't as good as I hoped for."

Our View: Wigginton was able to hit off a tee and take batting practice before feeling the injury while trying to run. This setback means he likely won't be available to return until next week to the league's hottest team since the All-Star break.
Ty Wigginton, 3B, Baltimore OriolesTuesday 9/9, 8:03 AM CT
Ty Wigginton, who is dealing with a strained left groin muscle, noticed vast improvement Monday and hopes to at least be available to pinch hit this weekend against the Cubs, according to the Houston Chronicle. Wigginton said, "Monday was very good. Sunday was not good. Yesterday it was real sore. Today I can at least walk without any limp. The way it feels today makes me know I will be back on the field. It makes me believe I will be back on the field."

Our View: Wigginton has blasted two homers over his last six games, but should not be considered for lineups this week, while in a limited capacity as a potential pinch-hitter.
Ty Wigginton, 3B, Baltimore OriolesSunday 9/7, 12:02 AM CT
Updating a previouis report, it appears Ty Wigginton will miss at least a week after pulling his groin trying to beat out a throw to first in the first inning of Saturday night's game. At this point, there is no timetable for a return, but manager Cecil Cooper surmised it could take eight or 10 days, maybe longer, before Wigginton is back on the field according to MLB.com.

Our View: This is not good news for the Astros or fantasy owners as Wigginton had carried them as of late. He led the majors in home runs and slugging percentage in August. We'll monitor his progress but don't count on him for this coming week.
Ty Wigginton, 3B, Baltimore OriolesSaturday 9/6, 7:55 PM CT
The Houston Chronicle reports that Ty Wigginton left Saturday night's game against the Colorado Rockies in the first inning with a left groin strain. He’s listed as day-to-day. Wigginton, batting leadoff for the first time since Aug. 22, hit a chopper to Rockies second baseman Clint Barmes. Wigginton took a long final stride as he touched the bag, but couldn’t beat the throw and hobbled off the field.

Our View: Wigginton led the majors in home runs and slugging percentage in August. Although he is listed as day-to-day, expect him to miss a few games with the groin injury.
Ty Wigginton, 3B, Baltimore OriolesWednesday 9/3, 10:46 PM CT
Ty Wigginton went 1-for-5 hitting his 22nd home run of the season in Wednesday's victory over the Cubs.

Our View: Wigginton has caught fire and now has six homers in his last eight games. Until he cools off, Wigginton is a must-start.
Ty Wigginton, 3B, Baltimore OriolesThursday 8/28, 3:41 PM CT
Ty Wigginton went 2-for-4 with a pair of solo homers in Thursday's close 3-2 win over the Reds.

Our View: Wigginton now has 19 homers for the season, with three coming over his last two games. Perhaps he is headed for a favorable power surge over the final month of the season.
Ty Wigginton, 3B, Baltimore OriolesFriday 8/22, 9:02 PM CT
Coming into Friday's game against the Mets, Ty Wigginton was hitting .412 in the month of August. Those numbers were increased during the game, as he went 2-for-4 in the Astros 3-0 loss to the Mets.

Our View: Wigginton was 3-for-13 in his last three games, so despite his mini-slump, he is still racking up hits in August. It's doubtful he's available in your fantasy league, but if he is, pick him up.
Ty Wigginton, 3B, Baltimore OriolesTuesday 8/19, 1:08 PM CT
Ty Wigginton has had a superb August, and he could continue that Tuesday when he and the Astros go up against Milwaukee hurler Ben Sheets. In 28 career at-bats against Sheets, Wigginton is hitting .429 with two home runs and seven RBI.

Our View: Wigginton has been on fire in August, and won the NL Player of the Week award last week. He is hitting .473 with six home runs and an absurd .927 slugging percentage. Needless to say, he's someone that should be on fantasy teams in all formats.
Ty Wigginton, 3B, Baltimore OriolesMonday 8/18, 3:46 PM CT
Ty Wigginton has been named the NL co-Player of the Week (with hurler Johan Santana of the Mets), according to the AP. Wigginton led the NL with a .571 (16-for-28) batting average, 11 RBI, 16 hits, 32 total bases, and tied for the league-lead with four home runs and nine runs scored. He registered multiple hits in six of seven games.

Our View: Wigginton raised his season average to .308 with 15 homers and 42 RBI.
Ty Wigginton, 3B, Baltimore OriolesSunday 8/17, 6:01 PM CT
While the pitching ruled the day, outfielder/corner infielder Ty Wigginton provided the offense needed for Houston to get the 3-0 win over Arizona. Wigginton went 3-for-4 at the dish, hitting his 15th home run of the season to post three RBIs and one run scored.

Our View: Wigginton uses the day to push his average to .308, hitting a whopping .473 through August with six homers and 16 RBIs.
Ty Wigginton, 3B, Baltimore OriolesFriday 8/15, 10:34 PM CT
Ty Wigginton was the only Astro to solve Brandon Webb Friday, picking up three hits, including his 14th homer, in loss to Arizona.

Our View: Wigginton might not get to 20 homers again this year, but you can't argue with 14 dingers from a guy with second base eligibility. Too bad he won't be eligible there next year.
Ty Wigginton, 3B, Baltimore OriolesMonday 8/11, 10:12 PM CT
Ty Wigginton had two hits, including his 12th home run, as he knocked in all three of the Astros runs in a 3-1 victory over the Giants.

Our View: Wigginton hasn't had the year many had hoped for due to injury, but he is still hitting .282 with an OPS of over .850, so it's not like he has struggled either. With the injury to Carlos Lee, Wigginton has seen some action in left field and will likely be in the lineup every day.
Ty Wigginton, 3B, Baltimore OriolesSunday 7/13, 4:43 PM CT
Ty Wigginton went 2-for-3 with one RBI helping the Houston Astros defeat the Washington Nationals 5-0 on Sunday afternoon.

Our View: One of Wigginton's hits was a solo shot to left field in the second inning, his eighth home run of the season.
Ty Wigginton, 3B, Baltimore OriolesSunday 7/6, 8:44 PM CT
Ty Wigginton hit a grand slam in the top of the third on Sunday. He finished the night 3-for-8.

Our View: A good night for Wigginton but his at-bats come too sporadically to rely on him as an everyday contributor to your fantasy squad. Still, the Astros could try a lot of things throughout the remainder of the year, given their standing behind the Cubs, Cardinals and Brewers. One of those experiments might be a regular starting job for Ty. If that's the case, he has shown the ability to produce in the past.
Ty Wigginton, 3B, Baltimore OriolesSaturday 7/5, 7:43 PM CT
Ty Wigginton's versatility came into play yet again on Saturday as he was placed in the leadoff role for the Astros, according to MLB.com. "I loved leading off in college. I led off regularly my junior year -- at least 30, 40 games," Wigginton said.

Our View: This move was made because the Astros are facing a lefty tonight, and there was no word that this would become a long-term decision. However, given that his OBP is a full .080 points better than leadoff man Michael Bourn (.360 to .280), it doesn't take a genius to figure out that this move makes sense for a lineup struggling to score runs.
Ty Wigginton, 3B, Baltimore OriolesSaturday 7/5, 9:24 AM CT
Ty Wigginton rejoined the Astros on Friday, although he didn't play. The third baseman was away due to the birth of his third child. Laila Faith Wigginton was delivered on Wednesday, the Houston Chronicle notes.

Our View: Fantasy owners wondering why Wiggy hasn't been in a box score since July 1 now know.
Ty Wigginton, 3B, Baltimore OriolesTuesday 7/1, 11:10 PM CT
Ty Wigginton went 1-for-5 with a three-run homer in Tuesdays 7-6 loss to the Dodgers. The game took 11 innings to decide.

Our View: That was his second homer over his last four games, but only his sixth homer over 171 at-bats.
Ty Wigginton, 3B, Baltimore OriolesSaturday 6/28, 10:08 PM CT
Ty Wigginton helped Houston rally from 4-0 and 9-6 deficits with a game-tying home run in the eight inning. Wigginton went 2-for-4 in the Astros' 11-10 win over the Red Sox.

Our View: The long ball was only Wiggs fifth of the season in 159 at-bats. The utilityman was a preseason sleeper to provide power to fantasy owners in NL-only formats.
Ty Wigginton, 3B, Baltimore OriolesWednesday 6/11, 9:45 AM CT
The Houston Chronicle reports that Astros manager Cecil Cooper said Tuesday that Geoff Blum would get more playing time at third base but wouldn't go so far as to say Blum is now in a platoon situation with starter Ty Wigginton.

Our View: Wigginton, who's hitting .284, made a key error in Sunday's game, but Cooper said the move had nothing to do with defense. Expect Wigginton to see fewer starts against right-handers.
Ty Wigginton, 3B, Baltimore OriolesWednesday 6/4, 8:48 PM CT
The Astros suffered the 5-2 loss to the Pirates this evening, though third baseman Ty Wigginton attempted to get his team going. Wigginton went 1-for-4 at the plate, hitting his third home run of the season to finish with one RBI and one run scored.

Our View: Wigginton was hitting well through the month of May, posting a .286 batting average for the month, but his lack of run production is concerning.
Ty Wigginton, 3B, Baltimore OriolesWednesday 5/28, 10:11 PM CT
The Houston Astros struggled to get any offense going this evening, posting just four hits throughout as they suffered the 6-1 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals. None of the Astros managed multiple hits, leaving third baseman Ty Wigginton as the top man of the night, going 1-for-3 with his second home run of the season, a solo shot that represented the only run Houston would produce on the night.

Our View: Wigginton hasn't been an offensive powerhouse this season, but tonight shows he can contribute from time to time.
Ty Wigginton, 3B, Baltimore OriolesFriday 5/23, 8:18 AM CT
Ty Wigginton returned to action on Thursday night and went 3-for-4. He had missed the previous two contests due to soreness in his right side, the Houston Chronicle notes.

Our View: The injury bug has been a problem for Wiggy in the first couple months, but that just means he might be someone fantasy owners can try to buy low on.
Ty Wigginton, 3B, Baltimore OriolesWednesday 5/21, 8:28 PM CT
Ty Wigginton was out of the starting lineup for the second straight day Wednesday after manager Cecil Cooper decided the third baseman needed more time to heal from the bruise he suffered last week on the left side of his rib cage. Wigginton admitted Wednesday he probably rushed back too soon. "Monday was definitely a lot better," Wigginton said. "I probably came back too soon from the thumb thing; I probably came back too soon from the rib thing. By no means is that an excuse. That's always been what I've done -- as soon as I feel I can be out on the field, I expect to be out there to help my team, my whole career."

Our View: Cooper assured Wigginton he still is his everyday third baseman, so Wiggy owners needn't worry. He should be back up to full speed soon.
Ty Wigginton, 3B, Baltimore OriolesSaturday 5/17, 8:53 AM CT
Ty Wigginton returned to the starting lineup against the Rangers on Friday, according to the Houston Chronicle. He missed the previous three games in San Francisco after being hit by a pitch in the left rib cage, and Wigginton stated, "I'm focusing more on the actual games than I am my body. Obviously, there is still some soreness in there, but it's something I feel very comfortable that I can play through it."

Our View: Wigginton went 1-for-4 in the game with one run scored, and that a good outing for him, as he has failed to generate much offense since returning from his fractured thumb injury.
