Michael Young was productive in tonight's 11-0 loss at the Angels, as he went 2-for-3 with a single and a double.

Michael Young, 3B, Texas RangersMonday 9/28, 12:27 PM CT

Our View: Young wants to get some at-bats to finish the season on a positive note, but his team looks done in the playoff race. His numbers were excellent before the injury, and he will go into next season as a top fantasy option yet again.

Michael Young, 3B, Texas RangersSunday 9/20, 11:32 AM CT
Michael Young "is not expected back anytime soon" after aggravating his strained left hamstring last Tuesday, according to MLB.com.

Our View: If you were holding out hope that he could help you during your fantasy playoffs, it's time to cut your losses and not carry his deadweight on your roster. Even if he does return this season, he might not be a meaningful contributor.
Michael Young, 3B, Texas RangersFriday 9/18, 4:38 PM CT

Michael Young, 3B, Texas RangersWednesday 9/2, 3:17 PM CT
Michael Young is expected to miss two weeks with a strained hamstring, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

Our View: Horrible news for Young's fantasy owners, as the Rangers' third baseman was cruising toward his sixth .300-plus average season, and possibly sixth 200-hit season, in seven years. Omar Vizquel, Chris Davis and Esteban German will all fill-in at third in his absence.
Michael Young, 3B, Texas RangersTuesday 9/1, 9:14 PM CT

Our View: Young crushed his fourth homer of August, and reached 20 homers in a season for the first time since 2005, when he collected a career-best 24.
Michael Young, 3B, Texas RangersThursday 8/6, 5:57 PM CT
Michael Young kept his recent power surge going on Thursdy as he homered again in the Rangers' 6-4 win over the A's. Young went 2-for-5 with a run sored and two RBI in the contest.

Our View: Young has 18 homers this season, and he has now hit eight of those in the last month. He is on a tear right now, so fantasy owners need to keep riding him until he cools down again. For now, he is a top infield option.
Michael Young, 3B, Texas RangersSunday 8/2, 10:04 PM CT
Michael Young hit his 17th homer of the season in the Rangers' 4-2 win over the Mariners' on Sunday. He finished the day 1-for-4.

Our View: The Rangers were feeling the power tonight, as they belted five homers as a team, with Young contributing two by himself. Yound now has 16 homers on the season, and he continues to be a solid fantasy option in all formats.
Michael Young, 3B, Texas RangersMonday 7/27, 10:23 PM CT
Michael Young went 3-for-4 with a home run on Monday, his 14th of the season.

Our View: Young has collected three hits in each of his past three games, along with two home runs and a stolen base, and continues to provide fine value, whether you're using him at shortstop or third base.
Michael Young, 3B, Texas RangersSunday 7/26, 5:30 PM CT
Michael Young helped the Rangers take two of three from the Royals on Sunday, going 3-for-4 with two RBI in a 7-2 victory.

Michael Young, 3B, Texas RangersSaturday 7/25, 11:13 PM CT
Michael Young went 3-for-4 with a home run in the Rangers' 6-3 loss to the Royals on Saturday.

Michael Young, 3B, Texas RangersMonday 7/20, 11:01 PM CT
Michael Young went 3-for-4 on Monday with two runs and a homer, his 12th of the season.

Michael Young, 3B, Texas RangersTuesday 7/14, 12:28 PM CT
Michael Young will start at third base for the American League All-Star team on Tuesday night in place of the injured Evan Longoria, according to the Twitter page of ESPN's Amy K. Nelson. Longoria is out with an infected finger.

Our View: Young is having a nice season, and he is being rewarded by getting the nod as the starter. Young has a history of good play in the midsummer classic, so he may be a dark horse for the MVP tonight.
Michael Young, 3B, Texas RangersSaturday 7/4, 10:14 PM CT
Michael Young helped pace the Rangers to a 12-4 rout of the Rays on the Fourth of July, going 2-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored.

Michael Young, 3B, Texas RangersSaturday 6/20, 12:51 AM CT

Michael Young, 3B, Texas RangersSaturday 6/6, 9:16 PM CT
Michael Young got two hits on Saturday in the Rangers' 8-1 loss to the Red Sox. Young went 2-for-4 with a double in the game.

Our View: Not a huge night for Young, but as good as Jon Lester was tonight it was a huge feat to get two hits. He was the only Ranger to get a hit off Lester, which shows how good Young is and how good Lester was tonight.
Michael Young, 3B, Texas RangersSunday 5/24, 12:26 PM CT
Michael Young is back in the Rangers' lineup on Sunday. Young missed Saturday's game with an ankle sprain.

Our View: Young was thought to be out today, but it appears as if his ankle is good to go. Get him back in your lineup today, and expect him to stay in the lineup unless he hurts himself again.
Michael Young, 3B, Texas RangersSaturday 5/23, 5:19 PM CT
X-rays on Michael Young's ankle came back negative, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Young sat out Saturday's game and remains day-to-day and could be back as early as tomorrow, so this comes as good news to Young owners who should not have any fear about using shortstop-eligible third baseman in their lineup for next week.
Michael Young, 3B, Texas RangersSaturday 5/23, 2:15 PM CT
Updating an earlier report, Michael Young has been ruled out for Saturday's game at Houston after testing his injured right ankle, according to the Star-Telegram.

Our View: Young was not able to run well enough to play, and the Rangers could not use a DH at Minute Maid Park. Hank Blalock will start at third base in Young's place.
Michael Young, 3B, Texas RangersSaturday 5/23, 12:07 PM CT
Michael Young is sporting crutches, but still wants to play in Saturday's game at Houston, according to MLBblogs.com.

Our View: He had X-rays taken on his injured right foot this morning, and is hoping he only has a sprain. We will keep you posted when his status is updated.
Michael Young, 3B, Texas RangersSaturday 5/9, 7:05 AM CT
Michael Young was forced out of Friday's game against Chicago in the fifth inning due to a stiff lower back, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: The Rangers are yet to disclose the severity of the ailment, or if he will need to miss any time.
Michael Young, 3B, Texas RangersTuesday 5/5, 12:06 AM CT
Michael Young continued his hot start on Monday, going 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs, and two RBI.

Our View: Young now has seven homers on the year, and is turning out to be an excellent fantasy player this season. His numbers should continue to be solid, so his value is likely to stay high all year.
Michael Young, 3B, Texas RangersMonday 4/27, 9:20 PM CT
Michael Young went 2-for-5 with a double, a home run, a run scored, and two RBI as the Rangers beat the Orioles 6-4 on Monday.

Our View: Young has been clutch to start the season and his blast tonight put the Rangers ahead for good. The shortstop turned third baseman is slugging .600 through 19 games with six home runs and seven doubles.
Michael Young, 3B, Texas RangersSaturday 4/25, 2:40 PM CT
Michael Young has been hot to start the year, and in fact he has become the player in big league history to hit a home run in the ninth inning in three of five games with each blast either tying the game or putting his team ahead, according to the Star Telgram. Moreover, Young is one of just 11 players to hit three ninth inning home runs in a five game span.

Our View: Young is hitting .308, an average we are used to seeing from him (he is a career .300 hitter), but the power (five home runs) is likely an anomaly given that he hasn't hit more than 14 home runs in any of the past three season. Still, you gotta love what he has been doing at the dish, especially with his new found eligibility at third base.
Michael Young, 3B, Texas RangersFriday 4/24, 9:41 PM CT
Michael Young launched a two-run homer in the top of the ninth on Friday to give the Rangers a 5-4 victory over the Orioles. Young was 2-for-5 on the game with two runs and two RBI.

Our View: Young has been excellent so far in 2009, and he continued that with the game winner tonight. He now has five long balls on the year, and his fanasy value continues to rise.
Michael Young, 3B, Texas RangersWednesday 4/22, 10:29 PM CT
Michael Young continued his hot start on Wednesday, going 3-for-5 with two doubles, a home run, two runs, and two RBI. He is now hitting .304 on the year with four home runs.

Our View: Young has been getting the job done at the plate this season, and he showed why he is still an option in all formats. Texas' lineup is going to score runs, and Young looks as if he will be involved in many of them.
Michael Young, 3B, Texas RangersTuesday 4/14, 11:21 PM CT
Michael Young homered for the second straight night Tuesday, but Texas fell short and dropped a 7-5 extra-inning affair to the Orioles. He was 3-for-4 on the day.

Our View: Young now has five hits, two home runs and three RBI in his last two games. He should have plenty more outings like this, being sandwiched between Ian Kinsler and Josh Hamilton.
Michael Young, 3B, Texas RangersMonday 4/13, 10:51 PM CT
Michael Young went 2-for-5 with his first home run of the season on Monday as the Rangers fell 10-9. He had two RBI and a run scored in the game.

Our View: Young is one of many Rangers providing some solid fantasy value at the moment. He has seven starts at third base under his belt and he has already gained eligibility at the position in some leagues.
Michael Young, 3B, Texas RangersFriday 3/27, 11:51 PM CT
Michael Young was 2-for-3 with a home run on Friday against the Brewers. He's hitting .348 this spring.

Our View: Young's transition to the hot corner doesn't seem to be bothering him and he's hitting like he always has. He's a decent fantasy option, especially if he is still eligible at shortstop.
Michael Young, 3B, Texas RangersWednesday 3/25, 7:50 PM CT
Rangers' owner Tom Hicks has contacted Merrill Lynch to identify a potential buyer and broker a deal to sell 49 percent of the ball club, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Hicks owns 95 percent of the team and will retain controlling interest in the club even if a percentage is sold off.
Michael Young, 3B, Texas RangersTuesday 3/24, 8:16 PM CT
Third baseman Michael Young aggravated his left quad injury on Tuesday, but manager Ron Washington tells the Fort Worth Star-Telegram that the infielder could return to action as soon as Wednesday.

Our View: We'll go out on a limb and project that Young will rest on Wednesday, but the Rangers clearly don't think this ailment is serious.
Michael Young, 3B, Texas RangersTuesday 3/24, 4:39 PM CT
Third baseman Michael Young aggravated a left quad injury on Tuesday and left the spring game against the Mariners after two innings, the Dallas Morning News reports. Adam Fox took his place.

Our View: We don't know any more details at this point, and we'll follow up when more info is available. Young has played at least 155 games in seven straight seasons, and one would think his body could easily handle the transition from shortstop to third base.
Michael Young, 3B, Texas RangersWednesday 2/18, 8:04 AM CT
Michael Young is adjusting to his new position at the hot corner, according to the Dallas Morning News. Young said, "I am focused on learning third base and becoming the best that I can at that position. Spring training will be very important for me."

Our View: Young noted that he won't hit 30 homers, but feels he will register 90-100 RBI. Young wanted to remain at shortstop, but he does not look to be a distraction as he is embracing his new position.
Michael Young, 3B, Texas RangersSaturday 1/24, 5:29 PM CT
Michael Young said on Saturday that there is not a strain in the relationship between he and general manager Jon Daniels, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. However, Young did reiterate that he doesn't think he should be moved to third base.

Our View: We'll likely see if the Young situation becomes an issue early in the regular season, if not sooner than that. If he's a team player then it won't be an issue, but if not he'll be a real headache for the Rangers this year, especially with being signed through 2013.
Michael Young, 3B, Texas RangersThursday 1/15, 5:42 PM CT
MLB.com reports that Michael Young will play third base in 2009 and he has revoked his request for a trade. Prospect Elvis Andrus is expected to be the team's shortstop.

Our View: Travis Metcalf was the other option at third base, as Hank Blalock is virtually locked into the DH role. Young will still be eligible at shortstop, but at some point in April, he will also be eligible at third.
Michael Young, 3B, Texas RangersTuesday 1/13, 11:55 AM CT
Buster Olney of ESPN.com reports that news of Rangers shortstop Michael Young's request to be traded is not sitting well with other baseball executives, quoting one as saying, "What a joke. It's all about him, and not about the Rangers."

Our View: The Rangers want Young to move to third so Elvis Andrus can play short, much to Young's chagrin. He is 32 and has $80 million remaining on his contract, so a trade seems unlikely, especially considering some of the reaction Olney has chronicled.
Michael Young, 3B, Texas RangersMonday 1/12, 5:29 PM CT
Michael Young is unlikely to be traded to the Chicago White Sox, according to the Chicago Daily Herald. Young requested a trade after being asked to move to third base from shortstop.

Our View: Young would provide an upgrade at shortstop power-wise over Orlando Cabrera who played for the Sox there last year. Young batted .284 last year with 12 home runs and 82 RBI, compared to Cabrera who hit .282 with eight home runs and 57 RBI. The averages are very similar, but Cabrera had four fewer home runs and 25 fewer RBI. Of course, Young plays his home games in the hitter friendly Ballpark in Arlington, so this should be taken into account. White Sox GM Kenny Williams has a history of making blockbuster deals, so even though this is considered unlikely, it's difficult to rule anything out when he's involved.
Michael Young, 3B, Texas RangersSunday 1/11, 11:59 PM CT
Rangers shortstop Michael Young wasn't happy about being asked to play third base, so he asked for a trade, according to the Dallas Morning News. "I'm not playing third base. I'm pretty adamant about my stance. I told them I wanted to be traded. The biggest misconception is that I was asked to move to third base. I was never asked. I was flat-out told," Young said.

Our View: He sounds quite upset at the organization, but he may not get his wish to be moved. He is 33 years old, in an obvious decline, and has five years and a whopping $80 million remaining on his contract. It seems odd the Rangers would want to move a Gold Glove winner to another position, but they want Elvis Andrus manning short next season.
Michael Young, 3B, Texas RangersSunday 1/4, 8:07 AM CT
The Red Sox don't have any interest in Michael Young, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View: Boston initially was looking at reacquiring Florida's Hanley Ramirez, but after that attempt fell short it doesn't appear that they'll be turning their interest to Young.
Michael Young, 3B, Texas RangersWednesday 12/17, 10:05 AM CT
A number of teams are interested in Texas shortstop Michael Young, though there has been no substantial talks yet, according to Jon Heyman of SI.com.

Our View: Young has a five-year, $80 million contract extension that will be activated in 2009, when he turns 33, so any team that wants him will have to consider that. He is a solid hitter, but his average was just .284 last year, and he hit only 12 home runs in Texas' spacious park.
Michael Young, 3B, Texas RangersTuesday 12/9, 11:27 AM CT
Yahoo! Sports reports that the Texas Rangers are quietly shopping shortstop Michael Young. Young, 32, will start to draw on a five-year, $80-million contract extension in 2009. The contract grants him full no-trade rights next season, then limited protection the following two seasons. The Mets, Angels, Dodgers, and Royals have reportedly all inquired on Young.

Our View: The Rangers could use some pitching in return. Young is one of the better and more consistent bats at his position.
Michael Young, 3B, Texas RangersWednesday 9/24, 4:38 PM CT
Michael Young, who has been battling an injured finger, went 4-for-4 on Wednesday against the Athletics. He racked up two doubles, two singles, two runs, and two RBI.

Our View: Young's batting average is just .283, which is the first time since 2002 that he will hit less than .306 in a season. He is an across the board contributer, but 2008 has been a down year for him. His 79 RBI are 15 less than what he finished with last season.
Michael Young, 3B, Texas RangersSunday 9/21, 12:57 PM CT
Texas shortstop Michael Young is out of the lineup on Sunday, as he needs another day to rest his injured finger, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

Our View: That's a shame, because he batters the opposing pitcher, John Lackey of the Angels, to the tune of a .370 career average.
Michael Young, 3B, Texas RangersSunday 9/21, 10:09 AM CT
Michael Young is battling a right finger injury and was out Saturday, but he is still going to see playing time the rest of the season, and Sunday would be a good time to get him in, as he crushes Angels starter John Lackey to the tune of a .370 average, two home runs and 13 RBI in his career.

Our View: Young's been pretty large disappointment this season, and his average is now below .280, but hopefully he can help make some of that up to fantasy owners Sunday off Lackey.
Michael Young, 3B, Texas RangersWednesday 9/17, 10:48 PM CT
The Detroit News reports that Michael Young left Wednesday's game against the Tigers after aggravating his injured right hand. Young has played the past few weeks with a fractured right ring finger and a cyst on his right wrist.

Our View: The five-time All-Star is 4-for-30 over his past eight games, but he had the go-ahead single in Texas' 11-8 win over Detroit on Monday night.
Michael Young, 3B, Texas RangersWednesday 9/17, 9:02 AM CT
Michael Young's MRI on his right wrist and ring finger back with no problems, according to the Dallas Morning News. Young said, "I couldn't have asked for anything better. All it needs is time, which I'll get in a couple weeks."

Our View: Young is playing through the injury, but only registered four hits (with one RBI) over his last seven games.
Michael Young, 3B, Texas RangersMonday 9/15, 11:02 PM CT
With the Rangers and the Tigers tied at eight, Michael Young connected on his first hit in four at-bats and it scored the game-winning run in the Rangers' 11-8 win.

Our View: After the season, Young will have surgery on his right hand but is going to finish the season and is still performing.
Michael Young, 3B, Texas RangersSaturday 9/13, 9:55 AM CT
Michael Young acknowledged Friday that he will need surgery or surgeries on his right hand during the offseason, according to the Dallas Morning News. He will undergo an MRI early next week on both the broken bone on the knuckle of his right ring finger and on a cyst on his right wrist.

Our View: Surgery won't affect Young's availability for the start of next season.
Michael Young, 3B, Texas RangersSunday 9/7, 5:40 PM CT
It was an uneventful day for Rangers shortstop Michael Young, as he failed to get a hit in four at-bats, and failed to make contact in three of those at-bats, striking out three times in the Rangers 7-2 loss to Boston.

Our View: Young is not having the type of season fantasy owners had hoped for. On August 25, his average was up to .290, giving people reason to think he would reach his familiar .300 mark, but it has since dropped to .282.
Michael Young, 3B, Texas RangersFriday 8/29, 1:20 PM CT
Michael Young, who recently had an eight-game hitting streak snapped, will try and start another one on Friday, and has a good chance of doing so as the Rangers take on the Angels and starter Ervin Santana. For his career, Young has belted Santana to the tune of a .424 average (14-for-33), with two home runs and nine RBI.

Our View: Young has had a relatively disappointing season for fantasy owners, and if he does not pick it up in September, could finish with a batting average under .300 for the first time since 2002.
Michael Young, 3B, Texas RangersThursday 8/14, 9:37 PM CT
In one of the only decent efforts for the team, Rangers shortstop Michael Young went 2-for-3, though his squad was downed by the Red Sox 10-0.

Our View: Young is a solid though unspectacular fantasy performer. He has a .291 average on the year, with 10 home runs, 8 stolen bases and 65 RBI.
Michael Young, 3B, Texas RangersSaturday 8/9, 8:10 PM CT
Texas shortstop Michael Young has left tonight's game, but no one is reporting why, according to the Dallas Morning News.

Our View: Travis Metcalf now playing third. Ramon Vazquez at short. We will update as news comes forth.
Michael Young, 3B, Texas RangersSaturday 8/9, 11:30 AM CT
Michael Young has a tough match-up tonight when he squares off against the Orioles and pitcher Daniel Cabrera. Young is just 3-for-17 in his career off the righty.

Our View: Young has been scuffling in August, hitting just .219 with an on-base percentage of .286. Tonight may not be a remedy for him.
Michael Young, 3B, Texas RangersSaturday 8/2, 11:25 PM CT
Michael Young had a tough night at the plate in Saturday's 6-4 loss to Toronto, as he went 0-for-4, while leaving three men on base.

Our View: He went hitless in four of his last five games, and is clearly having problems playing through his fractured right ring finger.
Michael Young, 3B, Texas RangersWednesday 7/30, 8:25 PM CT
Updating an earlier report, Michael Young was indeed out of the lineup on Wednesday because of his broken finger which was too swollen to grip the bat, according to SLAM Sports. "I wouldn't have enough grip to stand up there with a bat and be effective," Young said. "But my body seems to react pretty quickly to treatment. It won't be anything long-term."

Our View: Young might be out of the starting lineup for another day or two, but he did enter the game and hit the go-ahead sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth inning against the Mariners on this night.
Michael Young, 3B, Texas RangersWednesday 7/30, 4:22 PM CT
Michael Young, suffering from a broken finger, will not be in the lineup on Wednesday night, according to the Star Telegram.

Our View: No word yet on if this is just a day off, or if the injury to his finger has worsened. Young played yesterday but went 0-for-4 at the plate. Here's to hoping that he will be back in action in a day or two.
Michael Young, 3B, Texas RangersTuesday 7/29, 4:48 PM CT
Michael Young will play through the pain of a fractured right ring finger, according to the Dallas Morning News.

Our View: Good news for fantasy owners, as Young is a consistent player having another quality season with a batting average near .300, along with eight home runs and 58 RBI.
Michael Young, 3B, Texas RangersTuesday 7/29, 11:47 AM CT
The Dodgers have kicked the tires on Michael Young, but there's no indication that the Rangers would consider dealing their shortstop, according to the Newark Star-Ledger.

Our View: It seems extremely unlikely that Young would be dealt. The Dodgers are desperate to land a shortstop, but they'll likely have to settle for a lesser option. They've contacted Toronto about John McDonald, the Yankees about Alberto Gonzales and the Twins about Adam Everett.
Michael Young, 3B, Texas RangersTuesday 7/29, 10:22 AM CT
Michael Young expects to be back sooner than the 5-7 days that was first estimated when he suffered a small fracture to his right ring finger Monday, according to the Star-Telegram. "When the swelling goes down, I'll be back in there," Young said. "Of course it's tough. I want to play every inning. I want to play every game. I'm going to be back out there as soon as possible."

Michael Young had two hits, including his eighth home run of the season for the Rangers on Wednesday. Young also had a single while adding his seventh stolen base of the year.

Our View: Young continues to be one of the most productive shortstops in the game even though he was 1-for-16 over the previous four games. He may do anything exceedingly well, but he provides enough runs and stolen bases, not to mention his yearly 200-hits, to be worthy of running out there every day.

Michael Young, 3B, Texas RangersThursday 6/26, 10:26 PM CT
With his 0-for-4 performance in the Rangers 7-2 loss to the Astros, Michael Young's struggles continue. He seemed on the verge of breaking out of his slump after a three-hit performance earlier in the week, but that has not come to fruition.

Our View: Young has been horrendous since June 11, going 7-for-58, for a .121 batting average. It may be time to sit Young for a while, since he offers little else to fantasy teams but BA and runs. And if he isn't getting on base, he's not scoring runs.
