Matt Treanor, C, Milwaukee BrewersFriday 12/18, 6:08 PM CT
Matt Treanor has signed a minor league contract with the Brewers.

Our View: In 736 career at-bats, he is a .232 hitter. He has a shot to be Gregg Zaun's back-up next season.
Matt Treanor, C, Milwaukee BrewersSaturday 5/2, 4:08 PM CT
Matt Treanor will miss the rest of the season following surgery to remove a bone spur from his right hip, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Treanor did not register a hit over 13 at-bats with Detroit this season. Dane Sardinha is expected to remain the backup catcher behind Gerald Laird while Dusty Ryan works on his skills in the minors.
Matt Treanor, C, Milwaukee BrewersSunday 4/26, 12:36 PM CT
Updating a previous report, the Detroit News is reporting that the Tigers have placed Matt Treanor on the DL due to surgery on his right hip. Dane Sardinha has been called up to replace Treanor on the roster.

Our View: This move was expected, and it looks like Treanor will be out for at least two months. No real fantasy impact coming from this move, either with Treanor or Sardinha.
Matt Treanor, C, Milwaukee BrewersSunday 4/26, 10:39 AM CT
The Detroit News is reporting that Matt Treanor is expected to miss at least two months because of surgery related to a sports hernia.

Our View: Treanor is hitless on the season in 13 at-bats, so hopefully he is not taking up space on anyone's roster. He is expected to be put on the DL, but the announcment hasn't been made yet.
Matt Treanor, C, Milwaukee BrewersWednesday 3/25, 8:22 AM CT
Matt Treanor is ready to return to the diamond after getting a second opinion on his ailing hip, according to the Detroit News. He said, "We just wanted to make sure we are doing the right things."

Our View: Treanor will provide adequate depth as the Tigers' No. 2 catcher behind Gerald Laird, but his fantasy value will be limited.
Matt Treanor, C, Milwaukee BrewersThursday 3/12, 8:42 AM CT
Matt Treanor is considered day-to-day after aggravating his lower abdomen, according to the Detroit News. He underwent off-season surgery on the area for a hernia.

Our View: Treanor does not look to hold much fantasy value this season while serving behind Gerald Laird at catcher. Youngster Dusty Ryan could push for playing time at some point as well.
Matt Treanor, C, Milwaukee BrewersThursday 2/12, 8:21 AM CT
The Detroit News noted that Gerald Laird will get most of the playing time at catcher with the Tigers, but believes Matt Treanor can see around 150 at-bats in a 3-1 split among starts.

Our View: Treanor will be involved, but won't likely be productive enough to consider for fantasy leagues, as he held a .238 average and .306 OBP with Florida in 2008. Dusty Ryan could be in the mix at some point as well.
Matt Treanor, C, Milwaukee BrewersWednesday 12/17, 2:42 PM CT
Catcher Matt Treanor has inked a deal with the Detroit Tigers, reports the Baltimore Sun.

Our View: Treanor will back up Gerald Laird. Treanor won't have much fantasy value if he his 2009 season is anything like his 2008 season, when he hit just .238 with a .306 OBP.
Matt Treanor, C, Milwaukee BrewersTuesday 12/16, 5:17 PM CT
Matt Treanor is having discussions with the Detroit Tigers, according to the Detroit Free Press. The Tigers had been discussing a trade for the catcher with the Marlins before they non-tendered him.

Our View: The Tigers haven't really had a number one catcher since they traded Ivan Rodriguez to the Yankees during last season.
Matt Treanor, C, Milwaukee BrewersThursday 12/11, 12:42 AM CT
MLB.com reports that Olympic beach volleyball star Misty May-Treanor's husband no longer has a job. Catcher Matt Treanor was let go early Thursday morning. By releasing Treanor, the Marlins' 40-man roster is now at 39, which means the team now can participate in Thursday's Rule 5 Draft. Teams have to have less than 40 on their roster to take part in the Draft.

Our View: The 32-year-old catcher was the Marlins' Opening Day starter, but his 2008 season was marred by a left hip strain. He appeared in 65 games and batted .238 with two home runs and 23 RBIs.
Matt Treanor, C, Milwaukee BrewersWednesday 12/10, 7:25 PM CT
Catcher Matt Treanor is on the Orioles radar, according to the Baltimore Sun.

Our View: Yes, this is the husband of Olympic beach volleyball star Misty May-Treanor. O's prospect Matt Wieters is in line to do the majority of work behind the dish next summer for Baltimore, but they are still seeking some depth at the position.
Matt Treanor, C, Milwaukee BrewersSunday 11/30, 1:30 PM CT
The Tigers are interested in trading for Marlins' catcher Matt Treanor, according to BaseballProspectus.com.

Our View: The 32-year-old catcher wouldn't offer much offensively, but would be appreciated by the Tigers' pitching staff while serving behind the plate. He would also work as a mentor to Dusty Ryan.
Matt Treanor, C, Milwaukee BrewersSaturday 11/22, 3:28 PM CT
The Pirates are interested in trading for Marlins catcher Matt Treanor , then turning around and dealing Treanor and Jack Wilson to the Detroit Tigers, according to Fox Sports.

Marlins catcher Matt Treanor had successful surgery to repair his hip, and would like to be back with the Florida Marlins next year, according to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. "If the Marlins do keep me, I feel I would definitely be a positive in the clubhouse, but things happen," he said.

Our View: Treanor is scheduled to be headed for salary arbitration if the Marlins choose to keep him. He has no fantasy value as a .238 hitter, and is more useful to Florida for his experience on a young team.
Matt Treanor, C, Milwaukee BrewersThursday 10/2, 2:20 PM CT
Marlins catcher had three muscle tears in his left hip, and underwent surgery to correct the problem, according to FloridaMarlins.com.

Matt Treanor, C, Milwaukee BrewersSaturday 8/16, 10:56 AM CT
After watching catcher John Baker play for five consecutive games, Matt Treanor will get his turn today, according to the Miami Herald.

Our View: Baker was praised for his play, but he hit just .235 during those five games. Treanor recently came off the DL, though he is not an offensive powerhouse either, and his .241 average and 20 RBI are not good enough for fantasy play.
Matt Treanor, C, Milwaukee BrewersWednesday 8/6, 8:40 AM CT
Matt Treanor has been activated from the DL, according to Marlins.com.

Our View: He could play as early as Thursday, and is slated to initially platoon with John Baker. Treanor is displaying dedication and toughness by postponing his hip surgery, but will remain a non-factor in standard leagues, as he holds a .240 average over 54 games, with only two home runs.
Matt Treanor, C, Milwaukee BrewersTuesday 8/5, 6:32 PM CT
Florida catcher Matt Treanor continues to progress through his rehab stint in the minors, according to MLB.com. On Tuesday night, the 32-year-old catcher worked back-to-back games with Class-A Jupiter. On Monday night, he caught nine innings, another encouraging sign that a return to the Marlins is getting closer.

Our View: Treanor went on the DL with a left hip strain on July 8. Tuesday was his fifth rehab game. On Sunday, he was used exclusively as the designated hitter. Marlins manager Fredi Gonzalez noted that when Treanor returned, at least initially, he wouldn't step in five days a week. So the breakdown with left-handed hitter John Baker may come down to a platoon situation since Treanor is a right-handed hitter.
Matt Treanor, C, Milwaukee BrewersWednesday 7/30, 10:51 AM CT
Matt Treanor noted that he plans to postpone surgery on his hip as he plans to play through the injury, according to the Miami Herald. He said, "I felt like the best thing to do was see if I could get through the season. The purpose isn't to get out there and see what I can do and hurt the ballclub. If I don't feel like, and the club doesn't feel like I'm going to be effective, they're not going to put me back out there."

Our View: Treanor was told by a specialist that surgery was inevitable after an MRI revealed three muscle tears in his hip and pelvic region. But he will opt to postpone surgery, and he states that he may be able to return as soon as Tuesday when the club opens a series against the Phillies. The team may still add a catcher prior to the July 31 trade deadline.
Matt Treanor, C, Milwaukee BrewersTuesday 7/29, 5:29 PM CT
Florida catcher Matt Treanor will need to undergo surgery to repair three separate muscle tears in his left hip and pelvic area, according to FloridaMarlins.com.

Our View: Treanor hopes to put the surgery off until after the season, as he will try to play through the pain after undergoing cortisone shots.
Matt Treanor, C, Milwaukee BrewersTuesday 7/29, 9:46 AM CT
After visiting a specialist Monday, it was determined that Matt Treanor would not need surgery on his left hip, according to the Palm Beach Post. The catcher has been cleared to continue his rehab, but his return date is uncertain.

Our View: The Marlins are looking for a catcher to bolster their production from behind the plate. Treanor didn't have much value before getting injury, and his value could be nil by the time he returns.
Matt Treanor, C, Milwaukee BrewersSunday 7/27, 1:10 PM CT
Matt Treanor is going to be examined by a specialist in Philadelphia on Monday as he is still feeling discomfort in his left hip, according to MLB.com.

Matt Treanor, C, Milwaukee BrewersTuesday 7/8, 4:14 PM CT
Updating a previous report, Matt Treanor has officially been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained lower abdomen.

Matt Treanor, C, Milwaukee BrewersTuesday 7/8, 7:49 AM CT
Matt Treanor could be headed for the DL, according to FishStripes.com. He aggravated a nagging lower abdominal strain on Monday night, and he will undergo an MRI on Tuesday to determine the severity of the ailment. If the team is forced to shelve him, Mike Rabelo and John Baker at Triple-A Albuquerque would be top candidates to replace him.

Our View: Treanor is only hitting .240 for the season, but has been in a nice groove as of late, with three hits, one homer, and four RBI over his last three games.
Matt Treanor, C, Milwaukee BrewersWednesday 5/28, 7:51 PM CT
The Florida Marlins continue to assert a platoon approach at the catcher position, but the numbers and performances show Matt Treanor is starting to emerge as the team's best option, according to the Sports Xchange.

Our View: Treanor is hitting .339 through May with 16 games played. Meanwhile, the competition, Mike Rabelo, is batting just .154 for the month with starts in three of Florida's past 15 games.
Matt Treanor, C, Milwaukee BrewersThursday 5/8, 10:12 PM CT
Matt Treanor hit his first home run of the season on his way to a career-high three RBI on the night.

Our View: Treanor has two hits in 3-straight games and is really giving the Marlins some production from behind the plate. With Mike Rabelo struggling, Treanor should be in line for a few more starts.
Matt Treanor, C, Milwaukee BrewersMonday 3/31, 9:12 PM CT

Matt Treanor, C, Milwaukee BrewersTuesday 12/18, 10:59 AM CT
