Ben Broussard, 1B, Chicago White SoxTuesday 2/10, 11:19 AM CT
Ben Broussard has signed a minor league deal with the White Sox, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Our View: The 32-year-old vet has the versatility to be used in the infield and outfield, and will provide the Sox with a left-handed bat off the bench if he earns a roster spot in spring training. His fantasy stock looks to be limited though.

Ben Broussard cleared waivers and should find himself with another team within the next couple of days, according to the Star Telgram.

Our View: Broussard's new club will only have to pay a prorated portion of his salary while the Rangers will have to pick up the vast majority of it for a player that hit .159 with three home runs for them this year.

According to the Star Telegram, Ben Broussard lost is spot in the platoon at first base earlier this week, and now he has lost his spot on the Texas Rangers' roster. Our View: The Rangers activated infielder Travis Metcalf from the 15-day disabled list to take Broussard's spot on the 25-man roster.

Ben Broussard was designated for assignment on Thursday and the team will go with a platoon of Frank Catalanotto and Chris Shelton at first base, according to MLB.com. The Rangers called up Travis Metcalf to take the open roster spot.

Our View: A fairly shocking move considering the team is on the hook for almost $4 million in salary for Broussard the this season. Catalanotto will see the majority of work in the new split against righties, with Shelton looking to do some damage against left-handers.

Manager Ron Washington said that Ben Broussard will take some fly balls in the corner outfield spots in case he's needed out there, according to the Dallas Morning News. Broussard is primarily a first baseman but has played in over 50 games in the outfield in his career.

Our View: Broussard could benefit from the day off as he is only hitting .175 over 57 at-bats this season. He should platoon with Botts at first base throughout the season.

Ben Broussard, 1B, Chicago White SoxTuesday 3/4, 9:00 AM CT
The left-handed hitting Ben Broussard won't be sitting against southpaws this year. "I don't want him coming to the park every day wondering if he's going to play against a left-hander," manager Ron Washington said in the Dallas Morning News. "He's going to play against them until he proves he can't." Broussard has batted just .227 in his career against lefties (as opposed to .275 against righties), so we're betting it won't take Washington long to change his mind and sit his first baseman most of the time with a left-hander on the mound.
