Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsThursday 3/11, 3:29 PM CT
Kyle Lohse threw four scoreless innings of two-hit ball against the Marlins on Thursday.

Our View: Obviously, this shouldn't rocket Lohse up your draft board, but at least shows that he is healthy this spring. There are worse fliers you could take in the later rounds of deep mixed league drafts.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsFriday 2/19, 4:46 PM CT
Kyle Lohse threw his first bullpen session of the year today, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Our View: Lohse said that he has no restrictions after landing on the disabled list twice during the 2009 campaign. Lohse won 15 games with the Cardinals in 2008, and could be headed for a nice bounce back season if he can avoid the injury bug in 2010.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsSaturday 10/3, 3:39 PM CT
Kyle Lohse allowed five runs (only two earned) on Saturday, as the Cardinals lost 6-5 to Milwaukee at home.

Our View: Lohse was hurt by uncharacteristically shoddy St. Louis defense, but likely didn't do enough to push himself past John Smoltz to be the team's fourth starter in the playoffs. Smoltz's playoff success will likely be too much for him to overcome.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsSunday 9/27, 7:39 PM CT
Kyle Lohse had yet another disappointing start on Sunday. The struggling right-hander allowed four runs (three earned) on six hits and a walk over five innings and fell to 6-9 after a 4-3 loss to the Rockies.

Our View: Lohse has been awful this season since signing a four-year contract after a fine 2008 campaign. He has won just two games since May and has just two quality starts in the last two months. His battle with a forearm injury has been just one stumbling block in 2009.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsMonday 9/21, 9:32 PM CT
Kyle Lohse gave up three earned runs on five hits over six innings in Monday's 7-3 win at Houston. He had one walk with four strikeouts.

Our View: This was a decent performance for Lohse in his bid to remain in the Cardinals' rotation. He gave up four earned runs over 3.1 innings in his previous start against Atlanta.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsSunday 9/20, 9:30 PM CT
ESPN.com is reporting that Cardinals' starter Kyle Lohse has three more starts to prove he is capable of remaining in the rotation for the postseason. Lohse ha struggled with injury this season and has a 5-8 record.

Our View: It looks to be too little, too late for Lohse in 2009. With John Smoltz as an option as a fourth starter, Lohse is going to have to be very good over his next three starts to earn his job. The way he has pitched this season, don't expect that too happen.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsSaturday 9/19, 2:20 PM CT
Cardinals' starter Kyle Lohse is scheduled to start on Monday against the Astros, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Lohse missed his last start due to his injured forearm.

Our View: Lohse threw a successful bullpen session on Friday, so he will get another chance to go on Monday. He has had a nightmare of a season, ad it seems highly unlikely he will be able to put it together in time to start in the playoffs.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsFriday 9/18, 8:45 PM CT
Kyle Lohse fared fine during Friday's bullpen session, according to MLBblogs.com.

Our View: Lohse was scratched from tonight's start due to his ailing forearm, but is expected to make his next start next week during the Cardinals' series against Houston, either Monday or Tuesday.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsTuesday 9/15, 9:03 AM CT
With his right forearm injury still lingering, struggling pitcher Kyle Lohse will undergo an MRI on Tuesday, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Our View: Lohse was dreadful in his most recent start last Saturday, and has been struggling with the injury since May. He seems more likely to be shut-down than placed on the Cardinals' postseason roster at this point.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsSaturday 9/12, 6:33 PM CT
Kyle Lohse was unimpressive in his first start since being activated off of the disabled list last week. He made it through only 3.1 innings, surrendering four runs on nine baserunners in an eventual 7-6 Cardinals loss to Atlanta.

Our View: Lohse had a lot on the line Saturday, namely a spot in the Cardinals' postseason rotation. He might only get one or two starts going forward, if any, and needs to be drastically better if he is to have any chance of starting for the Cardinals in the playoffs.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsMonday 9/7, 1:14 PM CT
The Sports Network is reporting that the St. Louis Cardinals have activated pitcher Kyle Lohse off the DL. Lohse has been sidelined with a strained groin.

Our View: Lohse has been bitten by the injury bug several times this season, and he hope he will be fine for the rest of the year. He is scheduled to start for the Cardinals on Saturday against the Braves.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsTuesday 9/1, 3:26 PM CT
According to the Twitter page of MLB.com's B.J. Rains, Cardinals' pitcher Kyle Lohse threw to hitters at Busch Stadium on Tuesday. Lohse is recovering from a strained groin.

Our View: Lohse is hoping to return to the team soon, and today is a step in the right direction. The Cards could use him back in the rotation when he is ready, but it remains to be seen how much longer he will be out. We will keep you posted.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsSaturday 8/29, 4:46 PM CT
Kyle Lohse (strained groin) is expected to be activated from the disabled list and rejoin the Carindals next Sunday in Pittsburgh, possibly as a relief pitcher, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Our View: In 18 starts this season, Lohse is 5-8 with a 4.67 ERA.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsSaturday 8/29, 7:28 AM CT
Kyle Lohse is progressing in his recovery from a strained groin, and could be cleared for a rehab start at some point early next week, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Our View: Barring a setback, Lohse is expected to return to the Cardinals' rotation in early September when eligible to come off the DL. Skipper Tony LaRussa noted that Lohse could have returned sooner if not for being placed on the DL.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsThursday 8/27, 2:07 PM CT
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that Kyle Lohse was feeling good after a bullpen session on Thursday. He is currently on the DL with a strained groin and the team indicates that they would like for him to make a minor-league start before he is re-activated.

Our View: The Cardinals have not gotten what they were hoping for from Lohse this season, but he has put together some nice starts. With John Smoltz coming off of a strong performance in San Diego and a huge lead in the NL Central, they can afford to be patient with Lohse's rehab.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsSunday 8/23, 9:46 AM CT
Kyle Lohse (strained groin) is optimistic that he will be able to return when first eligible to come off the 15-day disabled list, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Our View: Lohse said he believes he didn't really need to go on the disabled list, but with the way he's been pitching lately, 1-3 with a 5.40 ERA since the All-Star break, it's hard to argue with the team's decision.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsSaturday 8/22, 6:55 PM CT
The St. Louis Cardinals have placed starting pitcher Kyle Lohse on the 15-day DL with a left groin strain, according to beat writer Matthew Leach's Twitter page. The team recalled pitcher Mitchell Boggs is a corresponding move.

Our View: Lohse pulled up lame while running out a single last night, and he will make another trip to the DL. The Cards have to be discouraged with this injury, but the addition of John Smoltz may be even more important now.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsSaturday 8/22, 8:07 AM CT
Kyle Lohse is likely to land on the disabled list after straining his left groin running out a single on Friday night, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Our View: Mitchell Boggs will likely be recalled to take his spot in the rotation.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsFriday 8/21, 11:19 PM CT
Kyle Lohse left Friday's start with a strained left groin.

Our View: Lohse singled in the fifth inning and injured himself running to first base. If it's not one thing with Lohse this season it's another. He just can't seem to stay healthy and has pitched very poorly considering he just got paid a lot of money in the offseason to help anchor the Cardinals rotation. He was relieved by Dennys Reyes.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsMonday 8/10, 10:17 PM CT
Kyle Lohse was in control from the hill in Monday's 4-1 win over the Reds at Busch Stadium, as he only allowed one earned run on four hits over six innings. He had no walks with three strikeouts.

Our View: Lohse earned his fifth win of the season, and lowered his ERA to 4.34. He bounced back well from his last start when he was tagged for five earned runs over 2.2 innings at the Mets.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsWednesday 8/5, 3:25 PM CT
Kyle Lohse's struggles continued on Wednesday against the Mets. He allowed five runs on seven hits and two walks before being yanked after 2.2 innings.

Our View: The depleted Mets cruised to a 9-0 win and Lohse was handed his seventh loss of the season. The Cardinal righty has been miserable since landing on the DL in early June, notching just two quality starts. He started the season 3-0, and now holds a disappointing 4-7 mark.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsThursday 7/30, 11:08 PM CT
Kyle Lohse only issued one earned run on five hits over six innings in Thursday's 5-3 loss to the Dodgers at Busch Stadium. He had one walk and two strikeouts.

Our View: Lohse pitched very well tonight, and it is a shame he was dealt a no-decision due to a lack of run support from his teammates. On the positive side, he trimmed his ERA to 4.14, and has not taken a loss over his last two starts.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsMonday 7/20, 9:55 PM CT
Kyle Lohse gave up three earned runs on five hits over seven innings in Monday's 3-2 loss at Houston. He had two walks and five strikeouts.

Our View: Lohse did not pitch bad, but was dealt a loss due to a lack of run support from his teammates. He is now winless over his last three starts.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsSunday 7/12, 3:05 PM CT
Kyle Lohse struggled a bit in his first start since being activated from the DL on Sunday as the Cardinals fell to the Cubs 7-3. Lohse went five innings and allowed four runs on eight hits while walking three and striking out two.

Our View: Lohse didn't look sharp today, but it was his first start back since being hurt. He should get better after a few starts, but Lohse owners may want to watch him closely over his next few starts.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsFriday 7/10, 2:08 PM CT
As expected, Kyle Lohse will be activated from the disabled list on Sunday and start the first game of the Cardinals day/night doubleheader with the Cubs, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Lohse was dominant in his final rehab start, and will be facing a Cubs team that has been struggling offensively of late. So even though he could still have some post-DL rust, you should start him in leagues with daily roster moves.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsThursday 7/9, 7:57 AM CT
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch is reporting that Cardinals' starter Kyle Lohse is probable to start one of the two games against the Cubs on Sunday. The two teams play a day/night doubleheader, and the thought is that Lohse will pitch the nightcap.

Our View: Lohse looked excellent in his final rehab start, and the Cards feel comfortable going to him this weekend. The team hasn't announced which game he will pitch yet, but conventional wisdom would indicate that he would go in the late game with Adam Wainwright, the more reliable option, going early to save the bullpen. If you have Lohse on your team, be ready to activate him over the weekend.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsTuesday 7/7, 8:34 PM CT
Kyle Lohse had an excellent rehab start for Triple-A Memphis on Tuesday, allowing only two hits in six innings while striking out six, according to the St. Louis Post Dispatch's Derrick Goold.

Our View: It sounds like Lohse is fully recovered from that forearm strain, and ready to rejoin the Cardinals rotation. Look for him to make his next start in the majors, and for Brad Thompson to be removed from the Cardinals rotation.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsTuesday 7/7, 12:55 PM CT
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch is reporting that Cardinals' starter Kyle Lohse will make his final rehab start on Tuesday for Triple-A Memphis. Lohse is expected to start for the Cardinals this weekend in Chicago.

Our View: Assuming all goes well tonight, Lohse will pitch this weekend at Wrigley, probably in the doubleheader. He should be good to go in fantasy lineups at that point, but check back to make sure he stays on track.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsSaturday 7/4, 7:54 AM CT
According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Cardinals' starter Kyle Lohse is expected to need only one more rehab start before he is able to return to the rotation. Lohse is scheduled to pitch on Tuesday in Triple-A Memphis.

Our View: Everything appears to be on track for a return to the rotation next week in Chicago. Lohse is progressing nicely, so expect him to be ready to pitch in the team's doubleheader on July 12 at Wrigley.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsThursday 7/2, 10:45 PM CT
Kyle Lohse had his first rehab start on Thursday since going on the disabled list on June 4 with a right forearm strain, according to MLB.com. Pitching for Double-A Springfield, he went 4.2 innings, striking out three and walking four while surrendering two runs.

Our View: He's expected to start again next Tuesday. He is currently scheduled to return to the major leagues on July 12 when the Cardinals play a doubleheader at Wrigley Field.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsSunday 6/28, 9:06 AM CT
The St. Louis Post Dispatch reports that injured starter Kyle Lohse will throw a bullpen session on Monday to prepare for his Thursday rehab start in Double-A.

Our View: Lohse has been limited to just one start since May 23rd and the Cards desperately need his arm healthy and back in the rotation. His rehab has gone smoothly to this point and barring any setbacks he should rejoin the team just before or right after the All Star break.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsFriday 6/26, 8:03 PM CT
Kyle Lohse, who is recovering from a forearm strain, threw 85 pitches against live batters today at Busch Stadium, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Our View: He became tired near the end due to the heat, but did not have any issues with his forearm, and feels ready to start a rehab assignment.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsThursday 6/25, 10:31 AM CT
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch is reporting that Cardinals' starter Kyle Lohse is skipping his scheduled bullpen session on Thursday and instead throwing to hitters on Friday. Lohse is expected to do a game-like warm-up and then throw to hitters for two-to-three simulated innings.

Our View: Lohse skipping a bullpen session sounds bad, but in reality he is doing it because he was so encouraged by his last session. He may need a rehab start before returning, but for now it looks like he could be back in the Cards' rotation very soon.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsTuesday 6/23, 5:16 PM CT
Kyle Lohse threw an "expansive" bullpen session on Tuesday at Citi Field, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, throwing a normal warmup and then simulating a complete inning. He threw about 60 total pitches.

Our View: Lohse seems to progressing very quickly from his forearm strain, and could be back with the Cardinals sooner rather than later. This is good news for the team, but bad news for struggling righty Todd Wellemeyer and fill-in starter Brad Thompson, who are the candidates to be removed from the rotation once Lohse is back.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsMonday 6/22, 3:39 PM CT
Kyle Lohse threw 40 pitches in a bullpen session on Sunday without complications, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Our View: Lohse is scheduled to throw again Tuesday at Citi Field as long as there is no lingering stiffness from Sunday's session. The team is hopeful he will be back before the All-Star break.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsSaturday 6/20, 10:59 AM CT
According to Scout.com, Kyle Lohse is scheduled to throw a bullpen session on Sunday in Kansas City.

Our View: Lohse is on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right forearm, but has been progressing nicely this week. If his bullpen session goes well on Sunday he would move on to a rehab assignment before coming off the DL and rejoining the team. His return would be a huge boost to a suddenly crippled Redbird rotation.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsTuesday 6/16, 6:39 PM CT
Injured starter (right forearm strain) Kyle Lohse threw from 120 feet on Tuesday according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Our View: Lohse said that things have been going well during his recovery, and that if they keep at the current rate he will be back "sooner rather than later." This would be great news for a beleaguered Cardinals team. However, Lohse fantasy owners shouldn't be expecting miracles from him when he gets back.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsSunday 6/14, 9:08 PM CT
MLB.com is reporting that Cardinals' starter Kyle Lohse began a throwing program on Sunday. Lohse is recovering from a strained floxor muscle in his right forearm.

Our View: Lohse is still expected to be out so another month or so, but it is a very good sign that he has started throwing. The Cardinals won't rush him back, but if he keeps progressing he could be back sooner than expected.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsSaturday 6/13, 5:43 PM CT
Kyle Lohse is progressing in his recovery from a right forearm strain, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. He has advanced to range-of-motion exercises.

Our View: Lohse will be on the shelf for at least four weeks, and may even be out past the All-Star break. He should remain patiently stashed on fantasy rosters.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsWednesday 6/10, 12:11 PM CT
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch is reporting that injured Cardinals starter Kyle Lohse (forearm) is out for a minimum of four weeks and potentially even past the All-Star break.

Our View: Bad news for the Cardinals as the team is mired in the middle of a protracted slump. Lohse had been following up his excellent 2008 campaign with another solid season, going 4-4 with a 3.99 ERA and 1.21 WHIP. Brad Thompson will take his starts while he is out.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsFriday 6/5, 4:10 PM CT
As expected, Kyle Lohse has been placed on the 15-day DL due to right forearm tightness, according to the Associated Press. Tyler Greene was recalled from Triple-A Memphis to fill his spot on the roster.

Our View: He looks to be on the shelf for a month, if not longer. Brad Thompson should help fill his spot in the rotation, and is worth a look for NL-only leagues.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsFriday 6/5, 9:06 AM CT
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch is reporting that that Cardinals plan to place starter Kyle Lohse on the 15-day DL with tightness in his right forearm. Lohse left his last start during the third inning of his last start. Reliever Brad Thompson is set to assume Lohse's spot in the rotation until his return.

Our View: This is bad, but not unexpected, news for the Cardinals. While the injury doesn't seem all that serious, Lohse is expected to be out for more than the 15 days. The Cardinals want to make sure the arm is at 100 percent before they bring him back, so it will be at least several weeks before his return. Fantasy owners should find another option for now, but expect Lohse to be back to full strength when he returns.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsThursday 6/4, 11:45 AM CT
Cardinals right-hander Kyle Lohse is likely headed to the disabled list after leaving Wednesday's game with tightness in his right forearm according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Our View: No word yet from the Cardinals on this, but it seems probable considering the variety of injuries Lohse has suffered this season. If you have an available DL spot, his 3.99 ERA and 1.22 WHIP make him worth stashing.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsWednesday 6/3, 8:18 PM CT
The AP reports that Kyle Lohse left Wednesday's start against the Reds in the top of the third inning due to tightness in his right forearm.

Our View: Lohse did not appear to want to come out of the game, and had been telling reporters that he was 100 percent for the past few days. He threw 39 pitches and allowed just one run on a Laynce Nix home run. A trip to the disabled list is possible.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsWednesday 6/3, 3:44 PM CT
According to MLB.com, Kyle Lohse will start, as expected, on Wednesday night.

Our View: Lohse has had a laundry list of injuries this season, but has managed to avoid the disabled list. The sore forearm he's been dealing with after being hit by a pitch is apparently up to snuff and he has shown no ill effects in throwing sessions. Feel free to plug him back into your lineup.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsMonday 6/1, 11:06 AM CT
According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Cardinals' starter Kyle Lohse is expected to start on Wednesday. Lohse was pushed back from his scheduled start on Tuesday, but he will avoid the disabled list.

Our View: Lohse is reportedly feeling much better today after throwing a side session yesterday. This is great news for the Cards, as it was believed Lohse may require a trip to the DL. Start him Wednesday if you have him.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsSunday 5/31, 9:33 PM CT
Kyle Lohse had his scheduled Tuesday start pushed back, as he's continued to experience soreness in his right forearm after getting hit by a pitch in his last game against Kansas City, according to the Associated Press. Lohse will pitch Thursday if he's medically cleared to do so.

Our View: Lohse could land on the DL if he's not ready by Thursday. Brad Thompson will start in his place on Tuesday.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsSaturday 5/30, 10:28 AM CT
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that Kyle Lohse is still experiencing discomfort in his right forearm, and he had to cut short his throwing session on Friday. If he is unable to pitch by Tuesday, the club will likely place him on the 15-day DL retroactive to May 23.

Our View: Lohse has been a solid yet unspectacular fantasy option since signing with the Cardinals last spring. The injury is not the type that would require any surgery, and some prolonged rest should return him to normal.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsWednesday 5/27, 5:05 PM CT
Updating a previous report, Kyle Lohse has been officially scratched from his start on Friday, according to MLBlogs.com.

Our View: Lohse is dealing with weakness in his forearm due to getting beaned in the series with Kansas City. He'll likely just miss this one start and with the off day Thursday, everyone will just move up a day. Joel Pineiro will start Friday.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsWednesday 5/27, 7:44 AM CT
Kyle Lohse is likely to miss his next scheduled start Friday due to forearm weakness caused from being hit by a pitch last Saturday during battle with the Royals, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Our View: He ended a side session Tuesday when his arm failed to recover from a series of throws. The club indicated that Joel Pineiro may be moved up from Saturday to replace Lohse. He only expects to miss one start.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsSunday 5/24, 2:09 PM CT
MLB.com is reporting that Kyle Lohse is sore after being hit with a pitch on Saturday night in the forearm, but he will be available to make his next start on Friday.

Our View: Lohse has a pretty good welt on his forearm, but he should be fine since he gets an extra day of rest due to an off-day this week. Lohse owners shouldn't worry about him on Friday.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsSaturday 5/23, 2:53 PM CT
Kyle Lohse only allowed four hits over eight scoreless innings in Saturday's 5-0 win over the Royals at Busch Stadium. He fired six strikeouts and did not issue any walks.

Our View: Lohse was in need of a strong outing as he was winless over his previous four starts, while allowing 17 earned runs over his last three. He improves to 4-3 for the season.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsMonday 5/18, 10:49 PM CT
Kyle Lohse struggled again on Monday as the Cardinals fell to the Brewers 8-4. Lohse went four innings and allowed four runs on four hits while walking three and striking out five.

Our View: Lohse was outstanding in April, but he has struggled badly as of late. The entire Cards' team is struggling right now, so you have to think he will get over this soon. Keep starting him for now in all leagues, but a few more bad starts may get him benched in fantasy leagues.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsSunday 5/17, 12:08 PM CT
Kyle Lohse is slated to start Monday's game against the Brewers at Busch Stadium, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Our View: His start on Friday lasted only two innings after being rained out. Lohse is pitching well with a 3-2 record and 1.28 WHIP over seven starts.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsSaturday 5/9, 9:06 PM CT
Kyle Lohse fell apart in the sixth inning on Saturday night. The five-run frame put the game out of reach and the Cards fell 8-3 to the Reds. For Lohse's part he allowed seven runs on nine hits and three walks over six innings and was handed the loss.

Our View: Lohse started out like a man possessed this season. After his first five starts he was holding a 1.97 ERA, but 13 runs allowed over his last 10.1 innings has jumped it to 4.25. Looks like Lohse is coming down to Earth.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsMonday 5/4, 10:17 PM CT
Kyle Lohse had his first bad outing of the year on Monday, giving up six runs in 4.1 innings pitched. He gave up seven hits and walked two while striking out four.

Our View: Lohse has been the Cardinals' best pitcher so far in 2009, but he wasn't very good tonight. He gave up two homers, one a grand slam, and only worked into the fifth. Lohse should still be effective as the season goes on, so this one start shouldn't hurt his value.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsSunday 5/3, 1:43 PM CT
The Cardinals have scratched starter Kyle Lohse from his scheduled start on Sunday due to poor weather. He will be replaced by Kyle McClellan.

Our View: The Cards don't want to risk Lohse getting hurt pitchng in the rain, so they decided to push him back. Expect him to pitch sometime in the coming week, probably early against the Phillies.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsTuesday 4/28, 8:52 PM CT
Kyle Lohse pitched very well on Tuesday, but didn't factor into the decision as the Cardinals blew a late lead and fell 2-1 to the Braves. Lohse scattered four walks and four hits and struck out six over six scoreless innings.

Our View: Lohse was trying to be the Cardinals' second 4-0 pitcher this month and pitched well enough to do so, but the bullpen fell once again. Five of the Cardinals' seven losses are now attributed to the pen. That has to be frustrating for Lohse, who lowered his ERA to 1.97 this season with Tuesday's performance.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsTuesday 4/28, 7:48 AM CT
Kyle Lohse will make his scheduled start tonight at Atlanta, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. He jammed his right knee in his last outing but Lohse said, "It is good enough to go."

Our View: Lohse is off to a strong start with a 3-0 record, 2.42 ERA and 0.96 WHIP. He is 2-1 over five starts against Atlanta, and should be safe to employ in fantasy lineups.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsFriday 4/24, 5:28 PM CT
Updating a previous report, Cardinals' starter Kyle Lohse will not miss his next scheduled start, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Lohse is feeling better and the MRI offered up positive results, so he see no reason why he would miss his next scheduled start. His knee made a scary pop while covering first base on Thursday, but all appears to be well.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsFriday 4/24, 12:20 PM CT
Kyle Lohse's MRI on his injured right knee revealed no structural damage, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Our View: The Cardinals, and fantasy owners, will be relieved, but it is yet to be determined if he will miss his next start. Lohse is off to a strong start with a 3-0 record, 2.42 ERA and 0.96 WHIP over 26 innings.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsThursday 4/23, 6:27 PM CT
According to the Post Dispatch, Cardinals' starter Kyle Lohse will have an MRI on his right knee Thursday night after feeling a pop while covering first in the fifth inning. He finished the inning, but was removed before the sixth.

Our View: Lohse got the win, his third of the season, but this is not good news. The Cards can ill afford another injured hurler, and Lohse has arguably been their best this season. At least the injury isn't arm related, but we won't know the severity of it until the MRI results are in.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsSunday 4/12, 5:32 PM CT
Kyle Lohse was excellent in Sunday's 3-0 win over the Astros. The right-hander threw nine shutout innings while allowing just three hits, no walks, and recording four strikeouts.

Our View: Lohse is not a strikeout pitcher, but he knows how to get the job done, particularly against the NL's weaker lineups. He does the job well when expected to, but he can often be a poor play against strong offenses. Following today's performance, he is 2-0 with a 1.12 ERA. His two opponents have been the Pirates and Astros.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsSunday 4/12, 8:41 AM CT
Kyle Lohse will make his second start of the season today at home against the Astros, according to the Houston Chronicle.

Our View: Lohse earned a win in his season debut, and was 3-0 with a 2.42 ERA against the Astros in 2008. He merits fantasy consideration for today.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsFriday 3/27, 4:25 PM CT
Kyle Lohse was kicked around by the Red Sox on Friday, surrendering 6 runs on 11 hits and two walks over five innings.

Our View: Lohse had a fantastic first half last year, much to the surprise of, well, everyone. But his second half was right on par with his career numbers. Don't expect the miracle first half again this season. He should be solid, but not spectacular.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsSunday 3/15, 6:27 PM CT
Kyle Lohse allowed one run on five hits and no walks over five innings of work as the Cardinals lost 2-1 to the Phillies on Sunday. He struck out five in the outing.

Our View: This was Lohse's best outing of the spring to date. He is not a high strikeout pitcher, but he limits his mistakes and benefitted from playing in front of a good defense in a spacious park last season. The park is the same, but his middle infield has undergone an overhaul. The result could be less attractive numbers for Lohse in 2009.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsTuesday 3/10, 4:47 PM CT
Kyle Lohse recorded his second win of the spring after allowing two hits and one run over 4 1/3 innings of work on Tuesday. Lohse struck out four and allowed a home run in the win.

Our View: Lohse enters the season as the number three starter and has set a goal of 15 wins for this season. He was strong for the Cardinals in 2008 and should put up some solid numbers. He is not a strikeout guy but will rack up a ton of innings for your staff.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsTuesday 3/3, 3:27 PM CT
Kyle Lohse did not allow any runs on three hits over 3.2 innings of work in Tuesday's 15-4 win over the Mets, with one strikeout and no walks.

Our View: This was a solid outing from Lohse, who is slated to pitch in the middle of the Cardinals' rotation. He can handle a lot of innings, but is not a solid source for strikeouts.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsThursday 2/26, 5:36 PM CT
Kyle Lohse was tattered for four earned runs on four hits, including two home runs, in two innings Thursday in St. Louis' 11-3 loss to Baltimore.

Our View: Before his career season of 2008 had even ended, Lohse received a huge $41 million contract from the Cardinals. They will need him to be as good, if not better, this season with a good deal of question marks surrounding the health of other key members of the rotation.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsMonday 9/29, 5:14 PM CT
The AP has confirmed that Kyle Lohse has agreed to a four-year, $41 million contract with the St. Louis Cardinals.

Our View: Lohse was 15-6 with a 3.78 ERA this season and led the staff with 200 innings. This figures to be the first of many free agent moves for St. Louis this offseason. The club has nearly $40 million coming off the books.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsMonday 9/29, 4:52 PM CT
The Cardinals have signed Kyle Lohse to a four-year, $41 million contract extension, according to the AP.

Our View: Lohse got the deal he wanted, it just took him another year. He is a solid middle of the rotation guy, but we have likely seen all he has to offer.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsSunday 9/28, 11:32 PM CT
Kyle Lohse, who will become a free agent this offseason, could already be nearing a deal to return to the St. Louis Cardinals according to the AP. He was scratched from his start on Sunday because Cardinals' management wanted him to meet with doctors to undergo a physical exam. "It's a good sign that he had an exam," Cards manager Tony La Russa said. "Evidently, they're getting into a serious conversation, but I don't think the deed is done. I don't want to take that for granted."

Our View: Lohse was one of the better pitchers going before a rough August. He went 1-3 with a 4.66 ERA during his down month but rebounded in four September starts by going 2-0 with a 3.00 ERA. There are a lot of quality starters on the market this winter and coming to terms on a deal so soon would be an indication that both sides are happy.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsSunday 9/28, 12:23 PM CT
Kyle Lohse has been scratched from Sunday's start to undergo an exam that could be the herald of a contract extension with the team for the pending free-agent pitcher, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Our View: The team did not disclose the specifics of the exam. Brad Thompson takes the hill in his place.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsTuesday 9/23, 10:32 PM CT
Kyle Lohse picked up his 15th win Tuesday, allowing three runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out three over six innings in a 7-4 win over Arizona.

Our View: Lohse has exceeded expectations for the Cards and fantasy owners this year and will be due for a big payday this offseason.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsThursday 9/18, 9:50 PM CT
Kyle Lohse helped the Cardinals snap a long losing streak in his first start since serving a five game suspension. In 6.2 innings Lohse gave up two runs on six hits while striking out five Reds.

Our View: The win was Lohse's first since beating Philadelphia 8-3 on Aug. 1. He was 0-3 in seven starts since. The last few starts, including this start, is a showcase for the pending 2009 free-agent.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsThursday 9/18, 6:32 PM CT
Kyle Lohse will be back on the hill for the Cardinals tonight after serving a five game suspension, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Lohse was suspended after throwing at Edinson Volquez of the Reds and ironically that is exactly who Lohse will face tonight.

Our View: Lohse is looking for his 14th win on the season and trying to help the Cardinals stop a seven game losing streak. The 2008 season started great for Lohse but he has struggled in the second half only winning three games.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsThursday 9/11, 7:23 AM CT
Kyle Lohse began serving his five-game suspension with Wednesday's game, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. He was suspended for throwing a pitch too close to Cincinnati hurler Edinson Volquez's head.

Our View: The timing of the suspension leaves the Cardinals without a scheduled starter for Sunday's game at Pittsburgh.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsTuesday 9/9, 4:29 PM CT
One of the Cardinals most consistent starter in the first half of the season, Kyle Lohse has had an up and down second half. Going into the All-Star break Lohse had 11 wins and has only added two, to that total in the second half. Lohse is 2-4 in 10 starts during this time, according to MLB.com.

Our View: It might not get any better for Lohse tonight against the Cubs. In two starts verse the Cubs this year, Lohse is 0-1 with an ERA of 6.92.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsFriday 8/29, 11:40 PM CT
Kyle Lohse allowed two earned runs on seven hits over eight innings in Friday's 3-2 loss to the Astros, with one walk and six strikeouts. The game was tied 2-2 when he exited, and was dealt a no decision. Lance Berkman won the game for Houston with a walk-off homer off Russ Springer in the bottom of the ninth.

Our View: Lohse pitched well but was unable to claim his 14th win of the season due to poor run support. He only won once over six starts in August.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsWednesday 8/20, 4:58 PM CT
St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Kyle Lohse was suspended for five games for throwing at Reds pitcher Edinson Volquez, according to the AP. Lohse, who did not hit Volquez with the pitch, will appeal his suspension.

Our View: During the game on Sunday, Lohse was batting when Volquez threw high and tight at him. Later in the game, Lohse responded with one up and in on Volquez. The umpire issued warnings, and that seemed to be that, until this news.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsSunday 8/17, 3:39 PM CT
Kyle Lohse was tagged for three earned runs on seven hits over six innings in Sunday's 7-3 loss to the Reds at the Great American Ballpark, with three walks and two strikeouts.

Our View: Lohse falls to 13-6, and has now lost three straight starts. He only has one win over his last six starts as well, allowing three or more earned runs in each outing over the span.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsTuesday 8/12, 10:41 PM CT
Kyle Lohse had his start cut short due to rain this evening, but he was ineffective during his time on the mound, going 4.1 innings and allowing four runs on six hits in the Cardinals loss to the Marlins.

Our View: Lohse has now lost three of his last four starts, and has given up four earned runs or more in each loss. He was pitching better than his career numbers would indicate, so it may be that he is simply reverting back to the norm.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsTuesday 8/12, 2:06 PM CT
Kyle Lohse has been bad recently, allowing 14 earned runs and five home runs in his past three starts. The surprise of the Cardinals staff has also struggled outside of New Busch Stadium with a 5.16 ERA.

Our View: He is a candidate to get hit hard tonight by a Marlins lineup that is much better against right-handed starters.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsThursday 8/7, 4:04 PM CT
Kyle Lohse threw seven innings, but allowed four earned runs on seven hits while striking out five to earn the loss in the Dodgers 4-1 victory over St. Louis.

Our View: Lohse wasn't bad, but he allowed a home run to Manny Ramirez and the Cards were stymied by Clayton Kershaw, so Lohse suffered defeat.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsFriday 8/1, 10:53 PM CT
Kyle Lohse wasn't at his best on Friday night as he lasted just 5.1 innings, but he was good enough to pick up his 13th win of the season for the Cardinals.

Our View: Lohse allowed eight base runners while striking out six as he rebounded from his worst outing in almost two months. Given his track record we are skeptical that he can keep this up moving forward, but he has been pretty darn good this season.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsThursday 7/31, 9:24 AM CT
The Cardinals have publicly denied that they have any interest in trading Kyle Lohse, but sources have told ESPN's Jayson Stark that the Cards would be willing to part with the righty for the right package.

Our View: Lohse has been the Cards' best starter this season, but he's a Boras client and almost surely won't re-sign with the team this offseason. Still, it's a bit of a surprise that St. Louis would be willing to deal him given that they're tied for the NL Wild Card.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsSunday 7/27, 3:51 PM CT
Kyle Lohse was rocked for seven earned runs on 11 hits over five innings in Sunday's 9-1 loss to the Mets, with one walk and two strikeouts.

Our View: Lohse falls to 12-3, and marked his first loss since May 8, when he also surrendered seven runs (against Colorado). He should bounce back fine, and remain a solid source for wins down the stretch.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsTuesday 7/22, 9:45 PM CT
Kyle Lohse threw eight innings against the Brewers on Tuesday but could not escape with his 11th consecutive win. He allowed three earned runs to go with seven strikeouts, seven hits and no walks.

Our View: Lohse has lost just two of his last 33 starts. By now, he should have answered any questions surrounding his legitmacy as a stud starter.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsThursday 7/17, 9:43 PM CT
Kyle Lohse has won nine consecutive decisions now. He overcame the San Diego Padres tonight in a 4-3 win. He scattered seven hits and two walks over seven innings while allowing just two earned runs.

Our View: Lohse is making a strong case to become a $15 million per season pitcher after 2008. The Cardinals will continue to need his strong performances this season if they want to make the playoffs.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsTuesday 7/15, 6:57 PM CT
The St. Louis Cardinals and hurler Kyle Lohse have yet to engage in contract talks, his agent, Scott Boras, told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. "Obviously, it would be something we'd welcome looking into in the future. But I don't sign those appointment checks. They have to kind of approach me. My door is open," Boras said.

Our View: Lohse has had a great season, and Boras will want his client to hit the free agent market, making it unlikely the Cardinals will sign him to an extension during the season.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsFriday 7/11, 8:41 PM CT
Kyle Lohse threw seven shutout innings against the Pirates on Friday to improve to 11-2 on the season.

Our View: Incredibly, Lohse has not lost since May 8, a span of 12 starts. He has given up just two earned runs in his last 21 innings. Lohse is playing for a contract, and could be on his way to a gargantuan one.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsSaturday 7/5, 6:21 PM CT
Kyle Lohse continued his strong work on the hill on Saturday as he held the Cubs to just two runs over seven innings. Lohse walked two batters and permitted two hits while striking out six.

Our View: Lohse has now allowed two or fewer earned runs in eight of his last 10 starts, and with a 10-2 record and 3.61 ERA, he is bound to generate some all-star consideration.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsMonday 6/30, 11:16 PM CT
In a game where most of the New York hitters were facing a pitcher they had historically hit hard, the Mets looked like little leaguers in a 7-1 Monday loss to Cardinals starter Kyle Lohse. The St. Louis right-hander allowed an unearned run in seven innings in the win. Lohse allowed five hits, walks and struck out four in his 10th win of the year.

Our View: Lohse has never had more than 14 wins in a season and entered the 2008 campaign 11 games below .500 for his career.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsMonday 6/30, 1:25 PM CT
Kyle Lohse will be targeting his 10th win of the season tonight when the Cardinals host the Mets, according to MLB.com. Lohse is 9-2 with a 3.94 ERA and 1.29 WHIP over 17 starts.

Our View: Lohse was riding a six-game winning streak prior to earning a no decision in his last start against the Tigers. He has only lost once at home this season as well, making him a favorable fantasy option tonight.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsThursday 6/26, 12:09 AM CT
Kyle Lohse had a rough outing facing the Tigers on Wednesday night as he was beat around the park for 11 hits and five runs in just four innings. He didn't end up with the loss though as the Cardinals offense bailed him out.

Our View: Lohse was due for a stinker, and tonight he certainly didn't disappoint. Loshe had allowed two or fewer runs in six of his previous seven outings and given his peripherals there was little reason to expect that streak to continue the rest of the way.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsWednesday 6/25, 2:14 PM CT
Kyle Lohse has been credited with six consecutive wins going into Wednesday's matchup with the Detroit Tigers. He has a 1.95 ERA during that stretch.

Our View: No one expected this out of Lohse going into the season, hence the reason why he couldn't find anyone to sign him. The Tigers pose a dangerous threat to end this incredible streak tonight.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsFriday 6/20, 10:57 PM CT
Kyle Lohse limited the Red Sox to one earned run over six innings to pick up his sixth straight victory. On the night, Loshe gave up six hits, walked two and struck our for Sox batters.

Our View: Lohse is now an amazing 9-2 on the year with a 3.63 ERA providing a tremendous return for those who spent a late round selection on him in mixed leagues. The luck doesn't figure to last with such a small K rate (4.20), but when he has his control like he did on this night, he is hard to beat.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsSaturday 6/14, 5:57 PM CT
St. Louis RHP Kyle Lohse continues to serve the team well, earning his eighth win of the season today against the Phillies, 3-2. Lohse pitched eight innings, allowing two runs (both earned) on four hits with two walks and three strikeouts.

Our View: That's five consecutive wins for Lohse with five walks and 13 strikeouts through that span.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsSaturday 6/14, 8:56 AM CT
Kyle Lohse confirms that the Phillies tried to keep him this past winter. In fact, the hurler agrees that a three-year, $21 million deal was on the table. "It went away early," Lohse tells the Philadelphia Inquirer. "It was gone less than a month into the off-season. It's not like we had extended talks - one time, that was it." The right-hander eventually inked a one-year, $4.25 million deal with the Cardinals.

Our View: Given the absurd amount of money thrown at pitchers these days (Carlos Silva, anyone?), we're not surprised Lohse thought he could get a better deal. His agent should have known better.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsSunday 6/8, 7:25 PM CT
St. Louis RHP Kyle Lohse picked up his seventh win of the season today, going six strong innings to hold Houston to three runs (all earned) on five hits with two walks and three strikeouts. The three runs all came in one swing of the bat by Houston first baseman Lance Berkman.

Our View: Lohse now touts four consecutive victories, giving up a combined total of five earned runs with three walks and 10 strikeouts along the way.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsTuesday 6/3, 11:40 PM CT
St. Louis RHP Kyle Lohse earned his third consecutive win this evening as the Cards put the 6-1 win on the Nationals. Lohse pitched five innings, allowing just one run on four hits with no walks and two strikeouts.

Our View: In those three consecutive wins, Lohse has totaled just one walk, seven strikeouts, and two earned runs allowed.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsThursday 5/29, 11:30 PM CT
Kyle Lohse pitched six strong innings on Thursday allowing just a single run to the Astros to earn his fifth victory of the season.

Our View: It's fairly obvious that if you want to rekindle your career as a hurler, you need to head to St. Louis, or shall we start calling it Reclamations R Us?
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsSaturday 5/24, 11:47 PM CT
The good Kyle Lohse was on display Saturday, as the righty tossed six shutout innings, allowing six hits and no walks while striking out five in the win over the Dodgers.

Our View: Lohse has given up two or fewer runs in seven of 11 starts this year, but he's also given up a total of 23 runs in his other four outings, making him a risky fantasy play.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsSunday 5/18, 5:07 PM CT
Despite dealing with an injured shoulder, Kyle Lohse managed to have himself a nice game on Sunday as he limited the Rays to two earned runs over six innings. Lohse stuck out five and didn't walk a single batter.

Our View: A nice outing for those of you who left Lohse in the lineup today. Still, after allowing 19 earned runs in his last three starts prior to today, we hope that you had other options to turn to today despite the solid start.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsFriday 5/16, 8:30 PM CT
Kyle Lohse won't miss his next start, according to MLB.com. He said Friday that he expects to make his scheduled start on Sunday, a day after it appeared that the start was in doubt. Lohse is dealing with discomfort in the back of his right shoulder, and he said, "I'm doing a little bit more than maybe normal, but what's normal. You're doing a pretty not-normal thing when you're throwing a ball, so you can have little things come up."

Our View: In his eight seasons in the majors, Lohse has never missed a start. He is 3-2 with a 4.91 ERA and passable 1.36 WHIP over nine starts, and has been a decent starter in NL-only leagues so far.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsThursday 5/15, 6:32 PM CT
Kyle Lohse skipped his normal between starts throwing on Thursday and may miss his next start due to a sore shoulder, according to MLB.com. If Lohse is unable to go on Sunday, the team will turn to rookie Mike Parisi. "We're just taking precautions to make sure it doesn't get any worse," Lohse said. "It's just been a little rough getting loosened up. But once I get going, it's all right."

Our View: Lohse has been a solid starer in NL Only leagues this season, but after giving up 19 earned runs in his last three starts it's clear to all that the shoulder is bothering him. Don't be surprised if he misses a start or two.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsTuesday 5/13, 10:54 PM CT
Kyle Lohse lasted seven innings on Tuesday night allowing four runs on just five hits and a walk in a no-decision.

Our View: After 15 runs over his last 10 innings, this outing qualifies as a major success. Lohse will continue to be a potentially useful NL Only play, though he is best left to being a matchup starter in mixed leagues.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsThursday 5/8, 6:47 PM CT
Kyle Lohse had a second straight horrid outing as he lasted just four innings giving up eight hits, five walks and seven runs to the Rockies to pick up the loss.

Our View: Lohse has now allowed 17 runs in his last 10 innings or almost double the nine he allowed in his first 34.1 innings. So much for that breakout season in St. Louis.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsSaturday 5/3, 6:07 PM CT
Kyle Lohse suffered his first loss of the season on Saturday, as the Cardinals were routed by the Cubs 9-3. Lohse was rocked for eight runs on nine hits over six innings, with two walks and no strikeouts.

Our View: Lohse still has a solid record at 3-1, and held a 2.36 ERA and 1.17 WHIP heading into today's game. You can use today's nightmarish outing to your advantage by trying to lure him away for a low price.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsSunday 4/27, 4:15 PM CT
Kyle Lohse went six innings for St. Louis, giving up four hits and one run as the Cardinals earned a 5-1 victory over the Astros.

Our View: Lohse walked one and struck out three as he recorded his third win of the season without a loss.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsTuesday 4/22, 7:28 PM CT
St. Louis RHP Kyle Lohse suffered through a rough outing today, facing 21 batters through four innings of work, making 84 pitches (49 strikes) and allowing four runs (all earned) on eight hits.

Our View: Lohse walked just two batters but struck out just one as well, giving the righty a pronounced feeling of instability through the early season. Two of his five outings have lasted seven innings with low hits (9 combined) and just two combined earned runs allowed. In his other three outings, Lohse has struggled to get past the fifth inning and has totaled high pitch counts and hits allowed in two.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsThursday 4/17, 4:03 PM CT
Kyle Lohse pitched seven solid innings allowing just five hits and no walks against the Brewers though he wasn't involved in the decision.

Our View: Lohse's ERA now sits at 1.48 after 24.1 innings though he has only 10 K. His numbers will regress as the year drags on, but he is certainly looking like a fine starter in deep mixed leagues.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsThursday 4/17, 1:54 PM CT
Kyle Lohse has started off hot and rewarded the faith in him that the Cardinals showed when they signed him late in the preseason, this according to MLB.com. "He's using his breaking ball's a lot more effectively, and his stuff looks better than it was last year," said one scout. "That's [pitching coach Dave] Duncan for you. He'll take a guy other teams have given up on and win with him."

Our View: Lohse is 2-0 with a 1.04 ERA through three starts a year after he went 9-12 with a 4.62 ERA. Lohse doesn't figure to have suddenly morphed into an all-star, but there is no denying that he has the stuff to be an above average major league hurler.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsMonday 4/7, 2:04 AM CT
Kyle Lohse, who was for all intent and purpose an emergency starter for the Cardinals last week, tossed his second straight solid outing in Sunday's win over the Nationals. The right-hander was picked up in late March to help St Louis fight off injuries in their starting rotation. He wasn't perfect on Sunday, and did have some good luck, but when you only allow opposing batters four hits in seven innings the chances of luck and success greatly increase. Lohse (1-0) has thrown 12 scoreless innings in two starts. The Nationals had runners in scoring position in the second and third, and Lohse finished strong, retiring his last nine hitters. He helped himself by throwing first-pitch strikes to 13 of the first 19 hitters, and although he had 10 three-ball counts he walked only one to go with two strikeouts. The Cardinals (5-1), picked by many to challenge Pittsburgh for last place in the NL Central, swept the Nats and are tied for first place with the Brewers.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsTuesday 4/1, 10:38 PM CT
Kyle Lohse had a solid debut for the Cardinals Tuesday, tossing five scoreless innings while allowing three hits and three walks with three punchouts. He didn't get a win, though, as the Cards bullpen coughed up a one-run lead in a 2-1 defeat. Pitching coach Dave Duncan has worked wonders with many pitchers in the past, and Lohse is his next project. The righty could be a deep sleeper this year.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsThursday 3/27, 5:42 PM CT
Kyle Lohse was in control against Florida on Thursday as he hurled five scoreless innings, with three hits allowed and four strikeouts. He is ready to roll heading into the new season.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsThursday 3/27, 4:04 PM CT
Kyle Lohse allowed three hits in five scoreless innings on Thursday. The right-hander walked one and struck out four. The newest addition to the Cardinals rotation was able to throw 67 pitches and 43 strikes, and appears ready to take the ball to the mound in Week 1. Lohse will receive a Saturday, April 5th start, against the Nationals ace, Odalis Perez. As undermanned as the Cardinals are this season, the matchup of Lohse versus an opposing teams ace (Perez) never looked so winnable.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsSunday 3/23, 7:49 AM CT
Kyle Lohse has pitched better than expected for St. Louis and he is expected to make his regular season dubut with the team on April 6, according to MLB.com. This is good news for a thin Cardinals' rotation.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsSaturday 3/22, 3:20 PM CT
Kyle Lohse, in his St. Louis debut, allowed two runs over five innings in a 6-3 win over the Twins. Lohse spent his winter preparing to play, and it showed today. In less than a week with the Cardinals, he showed more promise than the residing arms currently on the staff. Consider Lohse a NL-only option in deep formats.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsMonday 3/17, 10:42 PM CT
Kyle Lohse is scheduled to pitch against the Twins on Saturday, according to MLB.com. Lohse threw 70 pitches in a simulated game at Roger Dean Stadium on Monday, registering 20 outs against hitters from the Cardinals' Class A Quad Cities affiliate. He convinced pitching coach Dave Duncan that he is ready to go after inking with the team last week, and on Saturday he'll pitch against the Twins. Lohse commented, "I felt just like I normally would at this time of the year. Everything was coming out smooth. I felt strong. I wasn't trying to overthrow anything. The ball was doing what it was supposed to do." Duncan feels that there is a lot of potential in Lohse and added, "He can make pitches. He's not out there just heaving it. Those are the guys that can benefit from having a plan that's suited to them."
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsFriday 3/14, 6:40 PM CT
Following an earlier report, the Cardinals have signed RHP Kyle Lohse to a one-year contract, according to the Associated Press. His deal could reach $5 million in incentives. Lohse pitched for Philadelphia and Cincinnati last season, going a combined 9-12 with a 4.62 ERA. He will throw a simulated game on Monday and should get worked into games after that.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsThursday 3/13, 3:45 PM CT
As expected, the Cardinals team website confirmed Thursday that the club will bring in free agent right-hander Kyle Lohse for a physical examination on Friday. According to team spokesman Brian Bartow, the deal isn't done, but the Cardinals need for starting arms required the team to investigate their options. One of the few remaining qualified pitchers on the market is Lohse.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsWednesday 3/12, 11:48 AM CT
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch is reporting that the Cards are interested in Kyle Lohse. The right-hander, once considered one of the better pitchers in the league, has failed to sign this offseason. The Cardinals had dismissed signing Lohse but early season scheduling issues that have the team with only two off days in April, in combination with question marks surrounding the health of half their projected rotation, has changed their stance. The report suggests that Lohse is expected to sign a one-year deal for $5 million after going 9-12 with a 4.63 ERA in 2007 with the Cincinnati Reds and Philadelphia Phillies. Lohse carries a career 63-74 record and a 4.83 ERA.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsSaturday 3/8, 5:05 PM CT
The Baltimore Orioles recently discussed free agent pitcher Kyle Lohse with his agent, Scott Boras, according to the Baltimore Sun. Lohse was originally seeking a five-year deal for approximately $50 million, but word is his price has come down drastically.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsMonday 2/25, 2:44 PM CT
Kyle Lohse continues to work hard, maintain his discipline, and hopes another career opportunity will arrive soon, according to MLB.com. "I've been throwing sides to stay ready," Lohse said, by phone from Scottsdale. "I do what I need to do to stay healthy, and feel like I'll be able to jump right into Spring Training somewhere." There is little doubt that Lohse will get that call. From whom and when is the real question.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsThursday 12/20, 10:14 AM CT
The Mets appear to be the front-runners to land free agent Kyle Lohse. The Phillies were interested in bringing the right-hander back, but they have dropped out of the running because of their refusal to give Lohse four years. "We talked to [agent Scott] Boras a few times and from all indications it looked like it would take four years," Phillies assistant GM Ruben Amaro said to the NY Post. "We let him know that we wouldn't go higher than three. He indicated he could get four, and we bowed out gracefully." The Mets are believed to have already offered Lohse a four-year deal, though it's not clear if it's for the $10 million per year he's wanting.

Kyle Lohse earned his third win of the yeat at St. Louis Thursday, allowing one run over 8 1/3 innings. The maddeningly-inconsistent Lohse now has three strong turns in a row (23 1/3 innings, four earned runs), but this comes on the heels of three terrible starts, so it's hard to say with any convicition that you can trust the right-hander going forward.
