Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsSaturday 3/20, 4:42 PM CT
Ben Sheets only allowed one earned run on three hits over four innings in today's Cactus League game versus the Cubs. He had three walks and four strikeouts.

Our View: It was a good outing for Sheets, despite the three free passes. He bounced back after giving up nine earned runs in his previous appearance versus Cincinnati, and should remain the top candidate for the No. 1 spot in Oakland's rotation. He should still be drafted low as an injury-risk flier to be safe in fantasy leagues though.

Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsMonday 3/15, 4:27 PM CT
Ben Sheets noted that his arm feels strong right now, but his command needs work, according to Jon Morosi's twitter page.

Our View: Sheets was lit up for nine earned runs today against Cincinnati, and was taken out before he recorded any outs - but his velocity hit over 90-mph on the radar gun. He was tagged for six earned runs over 2.2 innings in his previous outing versus the White Sox, and the former ace hurler should not be drafted too high as a fantasy flier.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsWednesday 3/10, 5:03 PM CT
Ben Sheets was lit up for six runs (five earned) on five hits over 2.2 innings in today's 9-5 preseason loss to the White Sox. He had one walk and no strikeouts.

Our View: This marked his second game of spring training, and he allowed two runs (one earned) in his previous outing against Milwaukee. He fared much worse today, but should still be Oakland's starting hurler for opening day.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsFriday 3/5, 4:34 PM CT
Ben Sheets allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits over 1.2 innings in today's game against Milwaukee. He had no walks and one strikeout.

Our View: Sheets ran into some trouble, but still showed pretty good control, as he did not issue any walks. That marked his first game action in 17 months, and has been recovering from surgery to repair a torn flexor tendon. The former ace hurler noted that he felt great, and remains slated to start opening day for Oakland. He is worth targeting as a flier for fantasy leagues.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsSunday 2/28, 10:39 PM CT
Ben Sheets threw live batting practice for the first time of spring training on Sunday, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: The A's staff was impressed with Sheets' velocity, and his first pitch flew right by the batter. The former ace hurler's comeback continues to go well, and he should be targeted as a flier for fantasy leagues - but just make sure you do not overpay to be safe.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsWednesday 2/24, 6:13 PM CT
Ben Sheets threw a bullpen session Wednesday, according to Susan Slusser's (San Francisco Chronicle) twitter page.

Our View: Sheets used all of his pitches, and skipper Bob Geren noted that he climbed the ladder. The former ace hurler's comeback is going fine so far, and he will be worth targeting as a flier in fantasy leagues. He should benefit from playing his home games at pitcher-friendly McAfee Coliseum.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsTuesday 1/26, 4:24 PM CT
Skipper Bob Geren commented that Ben Sheets will be the Athletics' opening day starter, according to team beat writer Jane Lee's twitter page.

Our View: Apparently Oakland is confident Sheets will make a successful comeback from his arm woes. In his favor, he will be playing his home games at pitcher-friendly McAfee Coliseum. The former ace hurler will be worth targeting as a flier in fantasy leagues, but still be careful not to overpay.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsTuesday 1/26, 11:57 AM CT
Updating an earlier item, Sports Illustrated's Jon Heyman reports that the Oakland A's have signed free agent pitcher Ben Sheets. It is rumored to be a one-year pact worth around $10 million.

Our View: Aside from being the newest A's player, Sheets represents yet another New York Mets target signing elsewhere. Sheets, of course, has not pitched since 2008 after missing all of last season with arm problems. He reportedly "wowed" scouts at a throwing session last week, though, and when healthy, is one of the game's most dominant power pitchers. If he can stay on the mound this season, he could be a huge get for the ever-thrifty A's. In 221 career games, all starts, Sheets is 86-83 with a 3.72 ERA and 1.20 WHIP.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsTuesday 1/26, 11:53 AM CT
The Oakland A's have scheduled a 1 p.m. PST press conference for Tuesday afternoon, according to CSN's Mychael Urban. Urban believes it could be to announce to the signing of pitcher Ben Sheets.

Our View: This is, of course, just pure speculation at this point, but momentum has appeared to be building toward such a move, and it's a good bet that's what the A's will be announcing today. Stay tuned.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsTuesday 1/26, 8:22 AM CT
The Oakland A's have made a "competitive" offer to free agent pitcher Ben Sheets, according to CSN's Mychael Urban.

Our View: Apparently Oakland didn't get its fill of high-upside but always injured starters in Rich Harden. While the A's have been in on many prominent free agents this winter, Sheets seems likely to be another one they just miss out on.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsMonday 1/25, 11:42 AM CT
Oakland has apparently entered the bidding on free agent Ben Sheets, according to ESPN's Buster Olney.

Our View: The A's and their pitcher-friendly ballpark would present a nice destination for Sheets, though there are still plenty of other team's interested in his services. Olney also said that if the A's fail to land Sheets, they'd likely turn their attention to Johnny Damon.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsFriday 1/22, 8:57 AM CT
The Mets are very interested in landing free agent pitcher Ben Sheets, according to Ken Davidoff of Newsday.

Our View: He is now believed to be the team's "top target." That would be assuming you don't count Fernando Tatis. By all accounts, Sheets threw very well in his open audition on Tuesday, and if the Mets can wrangle him for a reasonable price, he could be a very big get for their 2010 season. Stay tuned.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsTuesday 1/19, 7:48 PM CT
Ben Sheets "threw very well" in his open audition on Tuesday, according to Ed Price of FanHouse.

Our View: The Cubs, Mets, Rangers and A's are said to be his most interested suitors. He was apparently "gassed" rather quickly on Tuesday, but looked good physically, with no red flags being raised. Expect him to finally sign a deal sometime very soon.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsTuesday 1/19, 5:48 PM CT
The Brewers were among the teams who watched Ben Sheets throw in Louisiana on Tuesday, but are not likely to sign him for 2010, according to Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.

Our View: Despite being one of the best pitchers in Milwaukee histroy, he will not be back in 2010. He was said to be topping out at just 91 miles per hour on Tuesday, so he will likely be forced to settle for far less than the $10-to-$12 million he is seeking.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsFriday 1/15, 5:24 PM CT
Milwaukee GM Doug Melvin noted that the Brewers will send a scout to watch Ben Sheets' upcoming throwing session, according to Tom Haudricourt's (Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel) twitter page.

Our View: Haudricourt suggested that the Brewers may not have serious interest in bringing the former ace hurler back, though. Sheets will be trying to bounce back from elbow surgery, and is reportedly wanting $10-12MM per year.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsFriday 1/15, 9:11 AM CT
The Cardinals are likely to be one of the teams watching Ben Sheets throw next Tuesday at the University of Louisiana, according to the St. Louis Globe-Democrat.

Our View: Other teams expected to be watching are the Cubs, Rangers, Mets, Yankees, Orioles, Mariners and Blue Jays. If he looks good, he could land himself a pretty fair deal despite missing all of 2009 with arm problems. Expect any deal to be heavily incentive-laden, however.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsThursday 1/14, 8:24 PM CT
According to Jeff Blair on Twitter, the Blue Jays are one of the interested teams planning on watching Ben Sheets throw next week at the University of Louisiana.

Our View: Several teams are expected to be interested, but the only two that have been revealed now are the Jays and the Rangers. Sheets is dominant when healthy, but has yet to prove that he is, so his current demand of $10-12 million per year seems a little outrageous.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsWednesday 1/13, 6:11 PM CT
Free agent pitcher Ben Sheets will hold a throwing session for interested teams next Tuesday at the University of Louisiana, according to ESPN.

Our View: Sheets says his arm feels "fantastic," and is said to be drawing interest from as many as 10 teams despite missing all of the 2009 season with injury. He is a very high risk potential addition, but a potentially very rewarding one nonetheless.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsMonday 1/11, 9:03 PM CT
The Cubs are believed to be interested in Ben Sheets, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Our View: Sheets covets a two-year deal worth $10-12MM per season, but the Cubs believe they may be able to reel him in with an incentive-laden contract. Chicago is one of the former ace hurler's preferred landing spots.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsSaturday 1/9, 4:32 PM CT
Baltimore team president Andy MacPhail noted that he requested Ben Sheets' medical records, but has yet to receive them, according to MASN Sports.

Our View: That could indicate that the former ace hurler is not interested in playing for the Orioles. Sheets is coming off elbow surgery, and cannot afford to be too picky though.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsTuesday 12/15, 5:23 PM CT
The Yankees are very interested in Ben Sheets, according to FOX Sports.

Our View: The former ace hurler is coming off elbow surgery, and may be seeking a better deal than New York is willing to offer. There is belief that Sheets will wait out the market, and then throw off a mound to interested teams, in a bid to prove he is healthy and to improve his stock. He is also said to be feeling great.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsThursday 12/10, 11:21 PM CT
The Yankees contacted Ben Sheets' rep, according to the Star-Ledger.

Our View: This does not signal that New York is really interested in signing him though. Sheets will be an injury-risk for whatever team decides to take a chance on him.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsWednesday 12/9, 3:48 PM CT
Free agent Ben Sheets apparently desires to sign a contract in the $12 million range for next season, according to ESPN.com.

Our View: Don't we all? To be fair, Sheets does have boast some of the best stuff in the majors when healthy, but he's as much an injury risk as any player in the league. Expect any contract he signs to be heavily incentive-laden.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsTuesday 12/8, 3:50 PM CT
The Rangers are expected to meet with Ben Sheets and his agent at some point over the winter meetings this week to discuss his health, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Sheets missed the entire 2009 season after undergoing elbow surgery and has dealt with injuries his entire career, but there's no doubting his talent when healthy. He should latch on somewhere, and Texas has shown interest since last season.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsFriday 11/27, 12:12 PM CT
The Orioles are interested in Ben Sheets, according to MASN.

Our View: More specifically, they are interested in a pitcher of his ilk. Someone they classify as a "high risk, high reward" signing. Sheets certainly fits that bill. After missing all of 2009, however, he should still find a very competitive market for his services.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsMonday 11/23, 7:58 AM CT
The New York Post has confirmed that the Mets are interested in free agent pitcher Ben Sheets.

Our View: That's 2008, not 2009, free agent Ben Sheets. The injury prone pitcher has not pitched in a major league game since September 27, 2008. Now 31 years old, you have to wonder whether or not he will be the same pitcher whenever he finally does step on the mound again.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsSunday 11/22, 8:21 PM CT
According to FoxSports.com, the New York Mets might have some interest in starting pitcher Ben Sheets. Sheets is expected to be 100 percent by the start of spring training this season.

Our View: The Mets are interested in adding another arm, and Sheets is just one of the players the team has shown some interest in. If Sheets proves he is fully recovered, he should get plenty of interest around the league.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsFriday 11/13, 2:47 PM CT
Ben Sheets says he plans to be ready for Spring Training next season, according t ESPN.

Our View: File this one under "believe it when you see it." If teams do see it, however, expect there to be a lot of interest in the 31-year-old (former?) power pitcher.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsFriday 10/23, 9:11 PM CT
Ben Sheets expects to bounce back in 2010, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Sheets missed all of the 2009 campaign after undergoing surgery in February to repair a torn flexor tendon in his right arm. He is currently participating in a flat-ground throwing program, and expects to be ready to go for the start of next season. The former ace hurler could potentially be a hot target on the free agent market. Sheets did not disclose any teams that he may like to pitch for.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsSaturday 7/18, 11:09 PM CT
Ben Sheets continues to progress in his recovery from February elbow surgery, according to Buster Olney of ESPN.

Our View: This is encouraging, but it remains uncertain if Sheets will be able to pitch at some point this season. He is only worth holding in the deepest of fantasy leagues as a flier.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsFriday 7/3, 2:29 PM CT
According to ESPN.com's Jayson Stark, the three teams that are interested in Ben Sheets are reporting that he will not be ready to contribute to a major league team this season. Sheets is coming off of flexor tendon surgery in February.

Our View: It was once thought that Sheets could be a major addition for a team making a playoff push in the second half, but it looks now as if there may not be much interest. Don't be shocked if someone still takes a chance on him, but don't expect to see the Ben Sheets everyone is used to.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsSaturday 6/27, 3:52 PM CT
According to MLB.com, the Rangers no longer appear interested in injured starter Ben Sheets.

Our View: Recently considered the leading candidate to land the rehabbing pitcher, the Rangers have come out and said recently that they aren't willing to add payroll for an elite starter at this time. Sheets began performing range of motion exercises in mid-June and projects to be game-ready by August. If healthy, wherever he lands he'll provide a big boost to someone's rotation. If you have room, he'd be an intriguing pick to stash on your roster assuming someone hasn't beat you to the punch.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsTuesday 6/16, 9:17 AM CT
According to Ken Rosenthal of FoxSports.com, the Rangers remain the leading candidate to land injured free agent starter Ben Sheets. Sheets, the former Brewers' ace, is still recovering from elbow surgery.

Our View: The Rangers could desperately use help in their starting rotation, and if Sheets even resembles the pitcher he once was he would be a nice addition. Conventional thinking puts Sheets in a Ranger uniform before season's end, and if and when he does sign with a team he could have instant fantasy value assuming he is healthy.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsTuesday 3/10, 4:46 PM CT
The Rangers remain open to the idea of acquiring injured starter Ben Sheets once he is healed from elbow surgery, according to MLB.com. And though Sheets has reportedly been rehabbing his injury at TMI Sports Medicine in Arlington, Texas, which is owned and operated by Rangers team doctor Keith Meister, general manager Jon Daniels insists the team has had no contact with the pitcher. "There's not a connection there," Daniels said. "I think he lives in Dallas and our club is there. He could have chosen to rehab to anywhere he wanted to."

Our View: A potential two-year deal between the two sides fell through earlier this year when it was reported that Sheets' ailing elbow needed surgery. There is no offer from the Rangers on the table as of now.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsThursday 2/12, 9:37 PM CT
Ben Sheets had successful surgery on his right elbow, according to Fox Sports.

Our View: Sheets and the doctors involved are optimistic that he can return after the All-Star break. It is unlikely that any team will sign him until he gets closer to returning but he could give a team a lift late in the year.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsTuesday 2/10, 8:34 PM CT
According to MLB.com, Brewers GM Doug Melvin said right-hander Ben Sheets' latest injury status in no way means he'll be playing his ball for the Brewers next season. "There's probably logic to it, but it's not going to happen," Melvin said.

Our View: Close to signing to a two-year deal with Texas Rangers a little more than a week ago, Sheets will now undergo surgery to repair a torn tendon near his elbow, a procedure that will cause the oft-injured starter to miss significant time in 2009. And it's possible the Brewers will have to cover the costs of Sheets surgery and rehabilitation since the injury occurred while Sheets was in a Milwaukee uniform.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsThursday 2/5, 3:51 PM CT
Ben Sheets is planning to undergo surgery on his elbow to repair a torn flexor tendon, according to Jon Heyman of Sports Illustrated. Dr. James Andrews is likely to perform the procedure.

Our View: Sheets is hoping to return to the hill in the second half of the 2009 campaign, but with which team remains to be seen.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsThursday 2/5, 2:36 PM CT
The Rangers are not likely to sign Ben Sheets, but are content with their rotation and are not expected to pursue another starter, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Kevin Millwood will be the No. 1 starter followed by Vincente Padilla. Matt Harrison is the favorite for the third spot, with Scott Feldman, Brandon McCarthy and Dustin Nippert fighting for the final two slots. This is assuming they ultimately do not make any additions.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsThursday 2/5, 12:48 PM CT
Ben Sheets may need to undergo elbow surgery to repair a torn flexor tendon, according to MLB.com.

Our View: The Rangers were interested in Sheets, but this news helps explain why they held off on signing him.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsWednesday 2/4, 11:09 PM CT
MLB.com reports that Ben Sheets now seems like a longshot to land with the Rangers.

Our View: The article does not offer much hard evidence as to why the Rangers would no longer be interested. The most dominant belief indicates that the Rangers simply do not trust Sheets' health. And, frankly, neither do we.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsMonday 2/2, 12:59 PM CT
The Rangers may be losing interest in Ben Sheets as talks between both sides have slowed down, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports.

Our View: Sheets wants a two-year deal, but the Rangers only want to commit to one year and a club option, namely due to concerns regarding his medical reports and poor track record with durability.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsWednesday 1/28, 7:04 PM CT
MLB.com reports that Ben Sheets does not appear to be interested in signing an incentive-laden deal similar to those of John Smoltz, Brad Penny, and Andy Pettitte. The Brewers recently offered him such a deal, but it was not given much thought.

Our View: The 30-year-old has a long history of injuries, and most suitors would prefer to pay through incentives. However, Sheets is the best pitcher left on the market so he should be able to find guaranteed money somewhere, possibly in Texas.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsSunday 1/25, 11:50 PM CT
The Orioles are not going after Ben Sheets, according to MASN. The Orioles don't want to take a risk on him, as he's been on the DL six times in his career.

Our View: Sheets is one of the best starters in the league when healthy. He racked up nearly 200 innings last year and even that was with a stint on the DL. It's still unclear how much money he will command due to the risk he presents to clubs, but it's hard to believe he could get more than a two-year deal for the same reason.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsSunday 1/25, 8:31 AM CT
The Yankees are still talking to Ben Sheets, according to SlidingIntoHome.com.

Our View: Sheets has a poor track record with durability, but can dominate when healthy. The Yankees would not need him to be an "ace" as they already added CC Sabathia and AJ Burnett, making Sheets a low risk option, especially if he would accept a one-year deal.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsFriday 1/23, 8:19 PM CT
Sports Illustrated's Jon Heyman reports that a number of teams have begun to express interest in free-agent pitcher Ben Sheets ever since the right-hander provided teams with an updated medical history. The Texas Rangers held talks with Sheets on Thursday, with the Brewers and Mets reportedly throwing themselves into the mix as well.

Our View: There's no doubt Sheets is one of the most potent starting pitchers in the NL...when healthy. But his problem has been staying out on the mound long enough to display his talent. He hasn't pitched more than 200 innings in four seasons primarily because of a variety of injuries.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsFriday 1/23, 12:11 PM CT
Ben Sheets visited the Rangers yesterday, but the club is yet to make him an offer, according to the Dallas Morning News. Team president Nolan Ryan said, "If everything would come together, there'd be a possibility of an offer."

Our View: The meeting went well, but the club isn't in any different position with Sheets now than before his visit.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsFriday 1/23, 11:17 AM CT
The Mets are reportedly raising interest in Ben Sheets, according to a source on ESPN Radio 1050 (New York).

Our View: The Mets don't feel his arm is perfect, but don't believe it is terrible either. This news comes after Sheets met with the Rangers yesterday.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsFriday 1/23, 9:45 AM CT
Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports indicates that Ben Sheets met with the Rangers on Thursday.

Our View: The market for Sheets has not been favorable, and the Rangers may be able to add him to their weak rotation for a bargain. The Mets appear to be the only other potential suitor as of now.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsMonday 1/19, 11:56 PM CT
MetsBlog.com reports that the Mets would like to offer Ben Sheets an incentive-heavy deal similar to that of Brad Penny's Red Sox deal. They also suggest Sheets is looking for a two-year, $18 million deal with a third-year option. Apparently, the two sides are not close on any terms.

Our View: Sheets would have surely been awarded more money for 2009 had he accepted arbitration from the Brewers, and he may still get more. However, the market is rather cold at this point and Sheets may have to settle for less.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsMonday 1/19, 7:16 AM CT
The Mets are reportedly considering Ben Sheets, according to Newsday.

Our View: Sheets is an option if the club does not bring back lefty Oliver Perez. Sheets was the ace of the Brewers' rotation and could prove to be a bargain for the Mets if he can just stay healthy.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsSunday 1/18, 12:59 PM CT
The Boston Globe suggests that Philadelphia is a possible destination for free agent Ben Sheets.

Our View: The Phillies would likely have to move some salaries to free up enough cash for Sheets. Despite his lengthy injury history, he is hoping to command a rich contract. However, he may end up having to take a one-year deal instead. The Rangers and Mets are also interested in the starter.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsTuesday 1/13, 11:41 PM CT
GM Jon Daniels said on Tuesday night that the Rangers consider Ben Sheets a "person of interest," but that the club hasn't made any offer for Sheets or talked to his agent, Casey Close, about him much lately, according to the Dallas Morning News.

Our View: It's becoming increasingly likely that Sheets may have to accept a one-year deal. He would probably be better off getting one year instead of two and trying this again next season.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsMonday 1/5, 9:31 AM CT
According to Jon Heyman of Sports Illustrated, the Texas Rangers are expressing interest in free-agent starter Ben Sheets.

Our View: The Rangers, who seem to finish near the bottom of the league in overall ERA each and every year, are starved for pitching and would be well-served to make an effort to obtain Sheets, regardless of his long list of past injuries.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsSaturday 12/27, 6:53 PM CT
The Astros won't be pursuing Ben Sheets, according to the Houston Chronicle.

Our View: The Astros could use an upgrade like Sheets in their rotation, but GM Ed Wade noted that the club is done making any major moves this off-season.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsSaturday 12/27, 12:01 PM CT
The Dallas Morning News reports that the Texas Rangers have not yet made a contract offer to free-agent hurler Ben Sheets, but have spoken with his representatives.

Our View: Because Sheets lives in the area, it has long been rumored he would wind up with the Rangers, but nothing seems imminent.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsSaturday 12/20, 8:22 AM CT
Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports predicts Ben Sheets to sign with the Rangers.

Our View: It is known that the Rangers are interested in Sheets, and could seriously use an upgrade at the top of their rotation. The oft-injured pitcher hurled 198.1 innings in 2008, and looks to be worth a gamble for Texas.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsFriday 12/19, 8:39 AM CT
Multiple sources confirm that the Yankees are not interested in pursuing Ben Sheets, according to the NY Post.

Our View: The club does not want to deal with Sheets' health issues, since they already inked AJ Burnett, who also has a poor track record with durability.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsFriday 12/19, 7:35 AM CT
T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com suggests that the Braves could garner interest in Ben Sheets after not being able to reel in AJ Burnett.

Our View: The Braves need help with their rotation, but are yet to contact Sheets' rep (Casey Close), and this is merely speculation at this point.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsThursday 12/18, 8:31 PM CT
Ben Sheets is still without a team, most likely a direct result of his litany of career injuries including his late season elbow issue, according to the Rangers Official Website.

Our View: Sheets is still on the Braves radar, and while the Rangers have expressed interest, they have also sent signals they they aren't going to make a huge offer. Other clubs in the mix might be the Nationals and Orioles once the Mark Teixeira sweepstakes wrap up.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsWednesday 12/17, 10:02 AM CT
Free-agent hurler Ben Sheets has yet to receive an offer of more than a year, reports Jon Heyman of SI.com.

Our View: Sheets' injury history is catching up with him now, but it's difficult to believe a guy with a 1.15 WHIP and 3.09 ERA won't get an offer of at least two years somewhere.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsSaturday 12/13, 11:40 AM CT
Free-agent hurler Ben Sheets will likely get an offer from the Yankees, but the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reports that he's more inclined to pitch for the Texas Rangers.

Our View: Sheets is fantastic when he's not injured, but that's been all too rare an occurrence in his career. Pitching in Texas' bandbox of a stadium isn't likely to help Sheets' fantasy value much.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsTuesday 12/9, 11:05 AM CT
The NY Daily News reports that the Yankees are preparing an offer for pitcher Ben Sheets. The deal is rumored to be for two years and in the $30 million range.

Our View: Sheets earned $11 million last year, going 13-9 with a 3.09 ERA in the final season of his four-year, $38.5 million contract. He is 86-83 with a 3.73 ERA in eight seasons, all with the Brewers, but has only made 30-plus starts in four of those seasons due to injuries.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsMonday 12/8, 6:09 PM CT
The Texas Rangers could meet with free agent pitcher Ben Sheets, who makes his offseason home in Dallas, according to MLB.com.

Our View: The Rangers are always in search of starting pitching, and Sheets is one of the better arms on the market. At least when healthy, which isn't often.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsMonday 12/8, 12:08 AM CT
MLB.com reports that Ben Sheets has officially declined arbitration, as expected.

Our View: Sheets has a long history of injuries and it remains to be seen if his potential suitors will lower their offers due to the concern.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsSunday 12/7, 5:24 PM CT
Sports Illustrated reports that Ben Sheets is expected to decline arbitration.

Our View: Sheets went 13-9 with a 3.09 ERA and 158 strikeouts in 198.1 innings last year for Milwaukee but was derailed by an injury very late in the season.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsFriday 12/5, 7:31 AM CT
The Yankees are reportedly becoming more interested in Ben Sheets as they may be losing confidence that they will be able to reel in AJ Burnett, according to ESPN.

Our View: When healthy, Sheets is a better hurler than Burnett, and could prove to be a solid signing for New York if he can shake free of the injury bug.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsWednesday 12/3, 5:13 PM CT
Ben Sheets is likely to decline the Brewers' offer for arbitration, according to Fox Sports.

Our View: Sheets is looking for a multi-year deal, but his injury history will make teams reluctant to commit to him. The Brewers had to offer him arbitration in order to receive two draft picks as compensation.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsTuesday 12/2, 2:09 PM CT
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution believes Ben Sheets is not on the Braves' radar due to concerns about his durability and reliability. They aren't interested in Randy Johnson for the same reasons.

Our View: The Braves' top pitching target is currently believed to be AJ Burnett. As for Sheets, the Brewers offered him salary arbitration.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsMonday 12/1, 3:22 PM CT
Ben Sheets has been offered salary arbitration by the Brewers, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: Sheets is a Type-A free agent, and Milwaukee would receive two draft picks if he inks with another MLB team. Sheets is not a hot target right now due to his track record with durability, but should garner interest when the other free agent pitchers start to sign.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsSunday 11/30, 8:23 AM CT
Ben Sheets isn't garnering much interest so far in free agency, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View: When healthy, Sheets is among the best hurlers in the league, but teams are leery of offering him a deal this early in free agency due to his poor track record with durability.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsWednesday 11/12, 12:04 PM CT
Ben Sheets has no structural damage in his elbow and expects it to be fully healed prior to spring training, according to ESPN. Talks with the Brewers have been productive and he could still remain with the club, but the Brewers will let him hit the free agent market.

Our View: The Rangers are going to consider Sheets, which would be a favorable destination as he lives in Dallas in the off-season. The Astros are also on his list of preferred landing spots, but the Cubs, Mets, Yankees, and Orioles are all believed to be possible suitors.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsFriday 10/31, 10:11 AM CT
Brewers' GM Doug Melvin stated that he will keep the door open when asked if the team would attempt to re-sign Ben Sheets, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.

Our View: The Brewers are expected to fight others teams, like the Yankees, to keep CC Sabathia, so it doesn't seem that the team will be willing to shell out a lot of money to keep Sheets as well.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsMonday 10/6, 12:49 PM CT
Ben Sheets will keep the option open, but ultimately does not expect to remain in Milwaukee when he enters free agency, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.

Our View: Sheets has put in eight year's of service with Milwaukee, while maintaining a 3.72 ERA. He is dealing with a muscle tear near his elbow, but will still likely generate solid interest on the free agent market.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsTuesday 9/30, 3:14 PM CT
Ben Sheets has been left off the Brewers' postseason roster, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.

Our View: He is dealing with a muscle tear near his elbow, and was viewed as a longshot to pitch again this year. The Brewers snuck into the playoffs as the wildcard and must battle the NL East champion Phillies without their best pitcher.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsMonday 9/29, 10:46 AM CT
Ben Sheets is not likely to be on the Brewers' active roster for the first round of the playoffs, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. Sheets said, "I’m going to be a cheerleader for a while. I ain’t got no choice. It doesn’t look good to pitch again this year but you never know. I won’t stop trying."

Our View: Sheets set a new season-high in wins with 13, but it does not look favorable that he will be able to help the club in the playoffs.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsFriday 9/26, 5:10 PM CT
Ben Sheets is penciled in as the Brewers' starting pitcher for Saturday, according to ths Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.

Our View: Sheets said he is feeling good enough to start, but Dave Bush will be on standby until game time just in case he suffers a setback regarding his elbow.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsThursday 9/25, 7:52 PM CT
The AP reports that after throwing a short bullpen session Thursday, Ben Sheets isn’t sure if the sore elbow that has bothered him for more than a week will be ready in time for him to face the Chicago Cubs on Saturday. “This one’s up in the air,” Sheets said. Sveum said he assumes Sheets will say he can play, but feels the need to “look in his eyes” and determine if Sheets really is ready. “He’s going to have to be really honest with this one, because that game’s going to mean everything in the world,” Sveum said.

Our View: The Brewers could desperately use him. Regardless of what happens on Saturday, the Brewers seem ready to go with CC Sabathia on Sunday.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsWednesday 9/24, 9:35 AM CT
Acting manager Dale Sveum indicated that Ben Sheets is unlikely to take the hill before Saturday, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. He is dealing with right forearm tightness and elbow pain.

Our View: He is feeling better, and the team is optmistic he can see some action during the weekend.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsFriday 9/19, 6:47 PM CT
Ben Sheets says he is not ready to throw in the towel yet according to MLB.com. "I think (starting) Tuesday is a far fetch," Sheets said. "But I'm definitely not ruling [myself] out for the rest of the year. I think that's very possible." He has been receiving treatment for the injury since at least his Aug. 26 start at St. Louis, and Friday referred to the problem as tendinitis. An MRI scan earlier this month showed no structural damage, but Sheets conceded he has been worrying about the possibility of a more serious injury that would require Tommy John elbow reconstruction surgery, and before or during several of his starts had asked the team's athletic trainers to do a manual test to ensure the ligament was strong.

Our View: It's unfortunate yet anticipated news with Sheets. The soon to be free agent is certainly wanting to avoid Tomm John surgery. We'll keep you posted on his progress.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsThursday 9/18, 1:51 PM CT
Ben Sheets' status for his final two starts remains in question due to his ailing elbow, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.

Our View: The team may be forced to change their decision of shutting down Manny Parra for the remainder of the year if Sheets is unable to return. Yovani Gallardo is expected back soon, but won't be stretched out enough to pitch many innings. As of right now, the Brewers are considering Sheets day-to-day.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsWednesday 9/17, 10:24 PM CT
Ben Sheets was removed in the second inning from his start against the Cubs with forearm stiffness.

Our View: This has been a broken record for fantasy owners with Sheets. Every year it seems like he is sidelined with some type of injury. We will keep you updated as news comes out.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsMonday 9/15, 2:25 PM CT
Manager Ned Yost has been fired by the Brewers, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. Dale Sveum, the Brewers' third base coach, will take over in an interim role as manager for the remainder of the season.

Our View: The Brewers have lost 11 of 14 games in September to go from 5 1/2 games ahead in the NL wild card race to tied with the Phillies. The Brewers were swept in four games against the Phillies over the weekend, which led up to Yost's firing with only 12 games left in the regular season.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsSaturday 9/6, 8:16 PM CT
Ben Sheets threw a complete game shutout against the light-hitting San Diego Padres on Saturday. He struck out seven, walked one and gave up just five hits in the 1-0 victory. The victory is his 13th of the season, a career high.

Our View: Sheets was pulled from his last start with a tight groin or because of dehydration depending on who you want to believe. Regardless, he was dominant on Saturday and should continue to shine.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsThursday 9/4, 8:13 PM CT
Ben Sheets is on schedule to make his start on Saturday after he was pulled from his last start due to "cramping" in his groin, according to MLB.com. "Nutrition and [hydration] is a big part of staying healthy, and we really focus on it. We come to find out that Benny, at times, has trouble doing that."

Our View: This is new news. Apparently, the team is now floating the idea that Sheets didn't injury his groin as he was merely suffering from dehydration. Drink some Gatorade will ya Ben? We don't know if we believe this explanation or not. Guess we'll find out come Saturday.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsTuesday 9/2, 7:41 PM CT
Ben Sheets told JS Online that he expects to take his next turn in the rotation. That start would be Saturday against San Diego. Sheets left Monday's game against the Mets in the fifth inning after throwing just over 50 pitches with left groin tightness.

Our View: Sheets said he still felt the tightness on Tuesday but expected it to improve enough to make his next start. Expecting and Sheets actually taking the mound are two different things.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsMonday 9/1, 6:46 PM CT
Updating an earlier story, Ben Sheets believes his groin injury isn't serious, according to the Associated Press. "I think it’s going to be fine," Sheets said. "I don’t think it’s as bad as last year. I really think I’m going to be all right. I’m just going to pay a little more attention to it and hopefully move forward."

Our View: Sheets has thrown 11-straight scoreless innings to lower his ERA to 2.96 before he was removed after five innings. Despite his pronouncement, it is still not known if he will need to miss a start or two.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsMonday 9/1, 2:34 PM CT
Ben Sheets left Monday's game after five innings with tightness in his left groin. He needed just 54 pitches to get through five scoreless frames. The Brewers are listing him as day-to-day for the time being.

Our View: Although Sheets didn't allow a run, his velocity was down all game, which made you think something might be wrong. We'll update you on his situation when more information becomes available.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsTuesday 8/26, 10:47 PM CT
Ben Sheets entered Tuesday's contest with just a 5-14 record in his career versus St. Louis, but he befuddled the Cards' bats tonight, tossing six shutout innings while allowing five hits and two walks while striking out four.

Our View: Sheets has been the victim of bad run support lately, but the Brewers gave him plenty of it tonight.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsTuesday 8/19, 10:12 PM CT
The Brewers found troubles against the Astros this evening, falling 5-2 to leave Ben Sheets out in the cold. Sheets pitched six innings, allowing five runs (all earned) on five hits with one walk and seven strikeouts.

Our View: Sheets moves to 11-7 on the season with an ERA of 3.16. He has gone 1-3 in August thus far despite allowing just 10 earned runs over four starts with five walks and 21 strikeouts.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsTuesday 8/19, 9:54 AM CT
Houston pitcher Roy Oswalt and Milwaukee hurler Ben Sheets are close friends, and Oswalt has been on a bit of a recruiting pitch, trying to get Sheets to consider the Astros when he becomes a free agent in the offseason, according to the Houston Chronicle.

Our View: Sheets and Oswalt would make a potent combo in Houston, but it is likely Sheets' destination will have a lot more to do with the money offered than where his friends are.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsThursday 8/14, 5:15 PM CT
Ben Sheets was out-dueled by San Diego hurler Jake Peavy and wound up taking the loss in Milwaukee's 3-2 defeat to the Padres. Sheets pitched 6.2 innings and gave up thee earned runs.

Our View: Sheets is coming off a complete game shutout but wasn't up to the challenge today. A bit troubling, however, is the fact that his strikeout numbers are declining a bit, as he doesn't have more than six in a game since July 11.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsSaturday 8/9, 8:43 PM CT
The Nationals failed to produce any semblance of productivity at the plate this evening, posting just five total hits in the 6-0 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers. The Brewers owe it all to starter Ben Sheets , going the complete game to earn his 11th win of the season, failing to walk a single batter and striking out six.

Our View: Sheets moves to 11-5 on the season with a 2.95 ERA. He had suffered three losses over his last five starts coming in, leading to worries that his arm may be suffering from fatigue. Tonight Sheets was on point, pitching his fourth complete game of the season.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsThursday 8/7, 5:31 PM CT
Brewers pitcher Ben Sheets has struggled recently, and some scouts believe he will continue to do so because of how many innings he has accumulated this year, according to MLB.com.

Our View: This is certainly something for fantasy owners to consider down the stretch. He has yet to win a game since starting the All-Star Game, and his ERA is 4.63 during that period.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsSunday 8/3, 7:52 PM CT
Ben Sheets lost his fifth game of the year though he pitched well allowing just two earned runs over six innings against the Braves.

Our View: With this outing today, Sheets has tossed 146.1 innings, his highest total since 2005 when he threw 156.2 innings. If Sheets can stay healthy the Brewers could have the most dominating righty-lefty combo in baseball with CC Sabathia.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsTuesday 7/29, 9:55 PM CT
Milwaukee hurler Ben Sheets was hit hard as the Brewers lost for the second day in a row to the Cubs by a score of 7-1. Sheets went just 5.1 innings, giving up six earned runs on 11 hits.

Our View: Sheets' ERA went over 3.00 for the first time since May 15, when he also allowed six earned runs in a start against the Dodgers. This is hardly anything to worry about, however, as even the best pitchers throw a clunker once in a while.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsThursday 7/24, 10:53 PM CT
Ben Sheets allowed three runs (two earned) on four hits over seven innings in Thursday's 4-3 win over the Cardinals, with two walks and four strikeouts. The Brewers were losing 3-2 when he exited the game, and ended his night with a no decision as Ryan Braun rallied with a two-run homer in the ninth to put the Brewers on top.

Our View: His record remains at 10-3, and is 0-1 over his last three starts.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsTuesday 7/15, 8:57 PM CT
Ben Sheets went two innings, striking out three batters and walking two in his two innings of work for the National League in the All-Star Game.

Our View: Sheets was dealing, and though he was a little wild, he only gave up one hit and represented himself well.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsTuesday 7/15, 6:16 PM CT
Milwaukee Brewers ace Ben Sheets, the starter for the National League in tonight's game, is scheduled to throw two innings in tonight's game, according to the Denver Post.

Our View: Sheets has not pitched since July 9, so he should be able to handle the two innings with ease.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsSunday 7/13, 10:59 PM CT
Brewers' Ned Yost has been trying to set his rotation for the second half, but he has yet to make any definitive decisions, this according to the team website. Yost has said the when the team acquired C.C. Sabathia that Seth McClung and Dave Bush would be the odd men out, which one will fill the final slot has yet to be determined. "I'm still thinking about it," Yost said. "I'm thinking seriously about matching up. You look at the numbers, and you want to put each of them [Bush and McClung] in a position where they can be successful." Ben Sheets , who will start Tuesday's All Star game will pitch either Saturday or Sunday.

Our View: Jeff Suppan, who is on the 15-day disabled list, threw a successful side session on Sunday. According to the report he felt great and will be activated to make his next outing.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsThursday 7/10, 10:38 AM CT
Ben Sheets may get the nod to start the All-Star game, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. "We like Ben Sheets. He’s got the rest, he’s got the credentials, he’s got the pedigree," said Colorado manager Clint Hurdle, who will manage the National League squad.

Our View: Sheets is certainly deserving, with 10 wins and 2.85 ERA. Fantasy owners and Brewers fans can only hope he doesn't get hurt while throwing in the contest.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsWednesday 7/9, 11:07 PM CT
Milwaukee RHP Ben Sheets suffered just his third loss of the season as the Brewers fell 8-3 to Colorado. Sheets pitched six innings, allowing three runs (all earned) on five hits with just two walks and 11 strikeouts.

Our View: Sheets now carries a record of 10-3 with an ERA of 2.85. He's pitching well and keeping mistakes to a minimum, boasting 28 walks versus 108 strikeouts.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsFriday 7/4, 4:04 PM CT
Ben Sheets only allowed one earned run on eight hits over 5.2 innings in Friday's 9-1 win over the Pirates, with three walks and six strikeouts.

Our View: Sheets improves to 10-2, with a 2.77 ERA. He is 4-1 over his last five starts.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsSunday 6/29, 5:57 PM CT
Ben Sheets has been hot, but he ran into the Twins buzzsaw on Sunday. The ace allowed nine hits and five runs over seven innings. Sheets, who dropped to 9-2, also walked two and struck out seven. He hadn't lost since May 15.

Our View: Fantasy owners have no reason to worry. Big Ben just had a minor hiccup against a streaking club.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsTuesday 6/24, 10:28 PM CT
Ben Sheets is having an exceptional year and it may be more than a coincidence that he becomes a free agent when the season ends. Sheets told the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel that he is eagerly anticipating free agency at the end of the season.

Our View: Buyer beware. Sheets has had a history of injury problems and lengthy DL stints, but he will still fetch an absurd price on the open market. Some GM will choose to focus only on this most recent campaign.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsMonday 6/23, 8:36 PM CT
Ben Sheets was in top form Monday, limiting the Braves to one run on four hits and no walks while striking out seven in a complete game effort.

Our View: You know the deal with Sheets by now. When he's healthy, he's on the of the best of the game. He's been healthy, and his numbers on the year (9-1, 2.59 ERA, 1.04 WHIP) are outstanding.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsMonday 6/23, 3:10 PM CT
Ben Sheets will make his 15th start of the season tonight against the Braves in Atlanta, according to MLB.com.

Our View: The "Brew Crew" is an MLB-best 21-10 since May 20, and Sheets has only allowed 10 earned runs over 42.2 innings over that span (with no losses inherited to his record).
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsWednesday 6/18, 10:36 PM CT
The Brewers got a bit of an erratic performance from RHP Ben Sheets tonight, but the result was a 5-4 win over the Blue Jays. Sheets went six innings to allow just two runs (both earned) on four hits with four walks and five strikeouts.

Our View: Sheets hasn't lost a game since May 15th, allowing no more than three earned runs in each of his last six starts. Over that stretch, Sheets has surrendered just nine combined walks.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsThursday 6/12, 5:06 PM CT
Ben Sheets struck out a season-high nine batters on his way to picking up his seventh victory of the season. Sheets walked two and allowed seven hits to the Astros in the victory.

Our View: The only thing that ever holds Sheets back from being a legitimate top-20 hurler each season is health. We are a bit concerned that he was allowed to throw 117 pitches, but high pitch counts are common when a hurler is racking up the strike outs.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsSaturday 5/31, 9:52 PM CT
Ben Sheets only surrendered one run on seven hits over 8.2 innings in Saturday's 4-1 win over the Astros, with one walk and five strikeouts.

Our View: He improves to 6-1 for the season, with a 2.71 ERA. He has only allowed four total earned runs over his last three starts.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsSaturday 5/31, 11:11 AM CT
The Milwaukee Brewers will send RHP Ben Sheets to the mound for the start today as Houston counters with veteran RHP Brian Moehler, according to the Miami Herald.

Our View: Sheets has faced Houston once this season, allowing four runs on seven hits through 6 2/3 innings (no decision). Moehler has faced the Brewers 17 times in his career, touting a 3-6 record over eight starts with an ERA of 4.21 in those meetings.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsMonday 5/26, 4:25 PM CT
Ben Sheets allowed two runs on seven hits, walked none and struck out six in Monday's no-decision against Jason Bergmann and the Nationals.

Our View: The hard-throwing right-hander was on his game, but his mound opponent Jason Bergmann was as good or better. These kinds of performances are what owners expected from Sheets and more efforts like this will result in wins this summer.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsWednesday 5/21, 9:53 PM CT
Ben Sheets rebounded from a poor start last week with a great outing Wednesday. The righty allowed one run on 11 hits while striking out six in a complete game win over Pittsburgh.

Our View: Sheets was having a poor month before this outing, so it's good to see he appears to be back on track.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsThursday 5/15, 3:42 PM CT
Ben Sheets was dealt his first loss of the season on Thursday, as the Brewers fell to the Dodgers 7-2. Sheets was lit up for six runs on nine hits over 6.1 innings, with no walks and five strikeouts.

Our View: Sheets was 4-0 and held a strong 2.53 ERA and 0.97 WHIP over seven starts, but allowed 10 earned runs over his previous three. He only allowed four home runs over those seven starts as well, but surrendered three today. He should get back on track.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsSaturday 5/10, 6:40 PM CT
Milwaukee RHP Ben Sheets was strong off the mound today, but the Brewers failed to support his cause and the team ace left with no decision. Sheets pitched seven innings, surrendering three runs (all earned) on nine hits.

Our View: Sheets walked just one and struck out six, bringing his ERA to 2.53 on the season. As we noted earlier, he used the day to become Milwaukee's all-time strikeout leader, but he would likely admit he would prefer the win.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsSaturday 5/10, 5:28 PM CT
Milwaukee RHP Ben Sheets has officially become the Brewers' all-time leader in strike outs, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: Sheets, the longest-tenured member of this year's Milwaukee team, put St. Louis 1B Albert Pujols away on an 0-2 breaking ball to record his 1,082 career strike out, surpassing Teddy Higuera as the team's top strike out man.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsSunday 5/4, 6:35 PM CT
The good news? Ben Sheets didn't walk anyone on Sunday. The bad news is that he allowed seven hits and four runs over 6.1 innings against the Astros. Sheets also struck out six and drove in a run during his no-decision.

Our View: Big Ben was very shaky in his last outing, and it's nice to see him pounding the strike zone. He is likely still working through some of the issue with his triceps. Fantasy owners shouldn't hesitate to use him.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsWednesday 4/30, 8:16 PM CT
The Milwaukee Brewers report RHP Ben Sheets is feeling just fine the day after his return to the starting rotation, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Sheets completed five innings of work, and while he struggled to find his control (totaling seven walks), he earned the win over the Chicago Cubs and today reports no discomfort or pain in his arm. Sheets had been out with tightness in his triceps since April 18th and the team was prepared to take him back out of the rotation had he awoke today with soreness. Sheets reported to Wrigley Field today with "no stiffness, no soreness, no tightness," according to manager Ned Yost. Sheets' next start will come on Sunday in Houston.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsTuesday 4/29, 11:10 PM CT
Ben Sheets was shaky in his return from a triceps injury Tuesday, giving four runs (three earned) on three hits and seven walks while striking out two over five innings. The veteran still managed to pick up his four win in the outing, though.

Our View: The most important thing is that Sheets escaped the game without another injury. Make sure he's in your lineup going forward.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsSaturday 4/26, 5:36 PM CT
MLB.com reports that Ben Sheets threw a short bullpen session during batting practice on Saturday. The right-hander, who left Friday's outing in Cincinnati with tightness in his right triceps, appears to be improving. "It felt good," said Sheets, who will pitch Tuesday in Chicago if he reports no lingering effects of the ailment.

Our View: The club does not want to place Sheets on the 15-day disabled list, but his inability to contribute has created a personnel crunch for the Brewers. Currently Milwaukee is carrying 14 pitchers and just three bench players.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsThursday 4/24, 5:03 PM CT
Ben Sheets is progressing well in his rehab from right triceps tightness and he is on track to start on Tuesday in Chicago, according to MLB.com. "It's slow, but we've got a couple of days to go," Sheets said. "It's getting better every day."

Our View: Sheets remains the ultimate risk/reward play. At this point you can't get any value if you were to trade him, so you just have to hope he returns to continue his dominance on the hill. If he has a handful of strong starts, you should give serious consideration to moving him since he just can't stay healthy.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsMonday 4/21, 7:01 PM CT
Ben Sheets will have his next start skipped because of the tightness he has experienced in his right triceps, this according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. "My first thought was to push him back one day," said manager Ned Yost. "But I don't know if one day would alleviate it. We want to see if we can get it gone completely."

Our View: The team hopes this move will allow Sheets to avoid the DL, though of course there is always the chance that he will end up on the sidelines at some point soon considering his history of injury.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsSaturday 4/19, 11:13 AM CT
The Brewers are struggling to determine the true status of pitcher Ben Sheets , according to MLB.com.

Our View: Sheets left Friday's game in the sixth inning after throwing just 60 pitches, complaining of tightness in the triceps muscle on his right arm. Sheets states the discomfort started in the third inning, but he stuck is out and allowed just two hits with zero walks and four strike outs before leaving the mound. Sheets later reporters it was manager Ned Yost you decided to pull the starter off the mound for fear of worsening a potential injury, and at this time, Yost is struggling to decide his next step. "I have to evaluate that," said Yost. "We have to sit down and see what's best for all of us. I suppose that's always a possibility (letting Sheets make his next scheduled start). I don't know if it's a necessity. But is it a possibility? Sure." We will update with news on Sheets' condition as it becomes available.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsFriday 4/18, 8:18 PM CT
Ben Sheets was removed from his start on Friday after five innings due to tightness in his right triceps, this according to the AP.

Our View: Sheets threw 60 pitches and allowed just two singles in five innings, but this is decidedly bad news for a guy who has long been hampered by injuries. If he needs a trip to the DL, the Brewers could simply activate Yovani Gallardo to take his spot.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsSaturday 4/12, 3:47 PM CT
Ben Sheets improved to 2-0 on Saturday, as he allowed three runs on five hits over 7.2 innings against the Mets in a 5-3 win, with two walks and five strikeouts. He lowered his season ERA to 1.17 as well.

Our View: That was another great outing from the Brewers' ace, as he tries to regain his elite status.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsMonday 4/7, 3:11 AM CT
Ben Sheets was as good as it gets in Sunday's win over the Giants. The hard-throwing right-hander registered his first shutout of the season allowing five hits in a 7-0 win over San Francisco. Sheets finished the game with eight strikeouts. On the season, Sheets has still not given up an earned run, allowed only two walks and is a third of a inning short of a 9.0 K Rate.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsMonday 3/31, 6:43 PM CT
Ben Sheets pitched shutout ball before leaving after 6.1 innings of strong work. The hard-throwing right-hander allowed two hits, two walks and struck out seven in the no-decision.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsWednesday 3/26, 7:34 PM CT
Ben Sheets was burned for nine runs on eight hits against the White Sox on Wednesday, with one walk and one strikeout. He gave up four home runs and hopefully he can get past today's performance heading into opening day.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsTuesday 3/11, 8:32 PM CT
Milwaukee's Ben Sheets had a rough day on the mound in today's 4-8 loss to the Giants, surrendering five runs in the 2nd inning (all earned). Sheets ended three innings of work with eight hits, two walks, and three strikeouts. Sheets noted this spring has reminded him of 2004, "My best year, I probably had my worst spring. I knew I was throwing the ball well, I know I'm throwing the ball well now." It may not be reason for major concern. It is spring ball. If you see his value drop in your fantasy league, it could be an excellent buy-low opportunity, but there should be no reason to believe these struggles will continue once games that count begin.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsThursday 3/6, 8:46 PM CT
Ben Sheets worked quickly on Thursday against the Mariners, and the results were encouraging as he allowed just two hits while striking out three over three innings. Sheets possesses one of the most electric arms in the game, but the injury bug always seems to knock him out of substantial time each year. He is a risk on draft day, but few have higher upside.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsSunday 2/10, 12:07 PM CT
Ben Sheets hopes that he will be able to stay healthy this year after a rigorous off-season training. "It's not conditioning. It's just a pattern of bad luck for him," manager Ned Yost said. "Hopefully, that will change and he can go the full year healthy and be dominant like everybody knows he can be." After three straight years of 200+ innings, Sheets has been unable to record even 160 the past three years. Still, over the past three years he has posted a 3.63 ERA, 1.13 WHIP, 8.08 K/9IP and a stunning 4.97 K/BB ratio. A huge risk on draft day, but few have a higher ceiling. Milwaukee Journal Sentinel
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsSunday 9/30, 7:45 AM CT
Ben Sheets won't pitch in relief during Sunday's season finale for the Brewers. "No need to (use him) now," manager Ned Yost told the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. Sheets didn't make his start Friday due to his strained left hamstring, though Yost considered using the pitcher in relief over the weekend. On Saturday, though, Yost decided it wasn't worth the risk.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsThursday 9/27, 11:37 PM CT
Ben Sheets (hamstring) will not make his Friday start, though Ned Yost says the right-hander is available to pitch in relief, according to the Brewers official site. Chris Capuano will start in Sheets's place Friday versus the Padres. "I don't know how it's going to respond," Sheets said of his hamstring. "If I can help us one day, it's better than none."
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsWednesday 9/26, 8:30 AM CT

There is no timetable for the return of Ben Sheets, who is dealing with a hamstring injury, according to the AP. If Sheets' injury improves and the Brewers are still in the playoff race at the end of this week, the right-hander could possible receive a start, but that seems like a longshot at this point.

Ben Sheets (hamstring) has been ruled out for his Sunday start, the AP reports. It's not yet clear if he'll be able to pitch again this year. Chris Capuano will get the call at Atlanta in place of Sheets, a curious decision given that the Brewers have lost the last 20 games in which Capuano has appeared.

Ben Sheets has a slight strain of the left hamstring, according to an MRI, and it's unlikely he'll start Sunday, the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reports. Look for Claudio Vargas or Chris Capuano to get the call Sunday in place of Sheets. As for the final week of the season, it's not clear if Sheets will be able to go then.
Ben Sheets, P, Oakland AthleticsThursday 9/20, 11:52 AM CT
Ben Sheets returned to Milwaukee Wednesday night to have his ailing left hamstring examined. He will have an MRI on the hamstring this morning and be examined by team physician William Raasch. After those results are in, the team will have a much better idea of how much time, if any, Sheets will miss. "That's why we're sending him back," general manager Doug Melvin said. "We just don't know what it is. It's easier to have him fly home and have our doctor look at him. Then, we'll know how to treat it." A bad sign is that Sheets said the hamstring was "sorer" Wednesday than it was Tuesday when he left his start with the injury.

Ben Sheets will come off the disabled list Wednesday and start against the Cubs, Ned Yost told the AP. Sheets is returning from a sprained middle finger on his right hand, and he's also dealt with blister problems. Sheets did some throwing in the outfield Tuesday and said he was fine, for what it's worth. Given that he's been on the DL since mid-July, let's not expect miracles in his first turn back.

Ben Sheets was able to toss a bullpen session Sunday. He hopes to be able to return to the rotation this week, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. The catch is that Sheets threw with a wrap around his blistered finger, something he can't do in a game. Clearly, Sheets will have to get in another session without the wrap before being cleared for game action.

Ben Sheets will not be able to start on Saturday, so Yovani Gallardo will get the nod. "I'm just not taking a chance on him right now," manager Ned Yost told the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. "It would be crazy to push him and set him back. I'm trying to do the right thing." Sheets not only has a blister on the sprained finger that forced him to the DL in the first place, but after a throwing session Wednesday, he developed another blister under the original one. It's not clear at this point whether he will be ready for next weekend's series against the Cubs.

Ben Sheets' recovery from a sprained right middle finger hit a little bump in the road Monday when the righty developed a blister on the same finger while pitching in a simulated game. "It was more of a hot spot; it wasn't very deep," manager Ned Yost told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. "We'll gauge it day by day. We're definitely not going to throw him with a blister." The Brewers are anxious enough to get Sheets back that they may skip a rehab stint.

Unlike his past sessions, he threw without tape on his finger. "You can't pitch in games with your finger wrapped so they decided to stop doing it in his bullpen sessions," general manager Doug Melvin said. "He has had no setbacks. We're still on schedule." There is no firm date set for his return, but the Brewers are anticipating getting Sheets back in early September.

Unable to put any pressure on the finger he injured during Saturday's start, Ben Sheets was wearing a compression wrap on the digit Sunday. "That's what hurts - pressure one way," Sheets told the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. "When I couldn't put pressure on the ball (Saturday night), that's when I stepped off the rubber." X-rays revealed no breaks, but more should be known about the injury following an MRI on Monday. Look for Yovani Gallardo to get the nod if Sheets is unable to make his scheduled start on Thursday.
