According to the team's Twitter page, the Atlanta Braves have signed manager Bobby Cox to a one-year contract extension to coach in 2010. Cox plans to retire after the 2010 season.

Our View: Cox has been a staple of the Braves organization for many years, and he will go down in history as one of the greatest managers of all time. He will have one more season to pad his record for ejections, so Braves' fans and baseball fans alike should take the time to watch the Braves before Cox is gone.

Chipper Jones, 3B, Atlanta BravesSunday 9/13, 12:42 PM CT
Chipper Jones will sit again on Sunday as he deals with a sore left groin. He will be replaced by Martin Prado at third base.

Our View: Chipper has struggled with injury all season, and he hasn't been able to play much over the weekend. He is an inconsistent fantasy play because of his inability to stay healthy, so find a more reliable option for the last few weeks.

Chipper Jones has said he might retire after the 2010 season, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution.

Our View: He has a $42 million deal that runs through the end of 2012, but the likely future Hall-of-Famer is frustrated with his play this season. He is batting just .268, while hitting 16 home runs and driving in 64. The .268 average comes just one season after he won the National League batting title batting .364.

Chipper Jones, 3B, Atlanta BravesWednesday 9/2, 6:21 PM CT
Chipper Jones is not in the starting lineup for the Braves division battle with the Marlins on Wednesday.

Our View: It doesn't look like Chipper is going to be available against the Nats this week, and considering they are one of the hottest teams in baseball, that's not good. Who would have thought a few months ago that the Braves would need Chipper to beat the Nats? We will keep you updated on Chipper's status when we hear more.

Chipper Jones' seventh inning home run made it a 4-2 game on Thursday, but the Braves couldn't hold on and lost 5-4 in Los Angeles.

Chipper Jones, 3B, Atlanta BravesWednesday 7/1, 8:53 PM CT
Chipper Jones drove in three runs on Wednesday night, pacing the Braves to an 11-1 rout over the Phillies.

Our View: Chipper hasn't approached the batting title form he displayed last season, but is still having a solid 2009 season, driving in 36 runs while batting .292. He is a good option at third base in every format.
Chipper Jones, 3B, Atlanta BravesSunday 6/28, 3:55 PM CT
Chipper Jones hit his ninth home run of the season in Sunday's 2-1 win over the Red Sox. It was his only hit in four trips.

Our View: Chipper is constantly banged up and requires a hefty amount of off days. That was ok last season when he was hitting over .360 with a decent amount of pop. This year his nine homers and .289 average don't really cut it.
Chipper Jones, 3B, Atlanta BravesWednesday 6/24, 9:58 PM CT

Chipper Jones, 3B, Atlanta BravesWednesday 6/3, 3:54 PM CT
According to MLBlogs.com, Chipper Jones is a game-time decision for tonight's contest.

Our View: Chipper's big toe is flaring up again, so he may have to sit this one out. It apparently bothers him more against lefties, and with Ted Lilly on the mound he may have to sit this one out. Stay tuned as we'll update his status when the Braves make a decision on him.

Our View: Chipper looked fine on Sunday during his three-hit performance, but apparently the toe is really bothering him. Expect him to miss some time going forward, but it remains to be seen how much time it will be. When is he is the lineup, you should still play him, but monitor this situation until it is resolved.
Chipper Jones, 3B, Atlanta BravesSunday 5/31, 11:01 PM CT
Chipper Jones went 3-for-4 with two runs, four RBI and his fifth home run of the season on Sunday against Arizona.

Chipper Jones, 3B, Atlanta BravesTuesday 5/26, 8:34 PM CT
According to the Atlanta Journal Constitution, Chipper Jones (toe) returned to the Braves' lineup on Tuesday night.

Chipper Jones, 3B, Atlanta BravesTuesday 5/26, 10:33 AM CT
Chipper Jones is still being hindered by his sprained big toe, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Chipper Jones, 3B, Atlanta BravesSunday 5/24, 12:12 PM CT
Chipper Jones is not in the Braves' lineup on Sunday. He is being replaced by Martin Prado at third base today.

Chipper Jones, 3B, Atlanta BravesFriday 5/22, 4:05 PM CT
The AP reports that Chipper Jones is not in the starting lineup for Friday night's game with the Blue Jays. He is not sure if he will be able to pinch hit. He injured his toe while running to first base on Thursday's game.

Our View: We won't be the least bit surprised if Jones sits out this whole series. He should avoid the DL, but as we have learned with Chipper, his minor injuries tend to linger.
Chipper Jones, 3B, Atlanta BravesFriday 5/22, 10:11 AM CT
MLB.com is reporting that Chipper Jones injured his foot in the sixth inning on Thursday while trying to beat out a grounder. Jones is listed as day-to-day for the Braves, but he is not expected to play Friday.

Chipper Jones, 3B, Atlanta BravesFriday 5/15, 9:56 PM CT
Chipper Jones was 1-for-3 with a home run, a run scored, and an RBI in the Braves' 4-3 win over the Diamondbacks.

Chipper Jones was 2-for-3 with two doubles, two runs scored, two walks and two RBI on Wednesday as the Braves topped the Mets 8-7 in 12 innings.

Our View: Deuces were wild for Chipper on Wednesday and he seems to be feeling no ill effects from the sore elbow that kept him out of the lineup sporadically this month. He's had two hits in both games since returning to action.
Chipper Jones, 3B, Atlanta BravesTuesday 5/12, 6:33 PM CT
Updating a previous report, Chipper Jones is in the starting lineup for Tuesday's game against the Mets, according to MLB.com.

Chipper Jones, 3B, Atlanta BravesTuesday 5/12, 8:44 AM CT
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution is reporting that Chipper Jones is hopeful that he will be able to return to the Braves' lineup on Tuesday. He missed Monday's game with a sore right elbow.

Chipper Jones, 3B, Atlanta BravesWednesday 5/6, 9:38 PM CT
Chipper Jones was 2-for-3 with two RBI, two walks, and a double as the Braves beat the Marlins 8-6 on Wednesday.

Our View: Jones has only four hits in his last six games, but we expect that he will get it going again very soon. He is currently hitting .295 and we like his odds of getting the average up to over .300 soon. Once it does get there, there's a good chance he keeps it there.
Chipper Jones, 3B, Atlanta BravesMonday 5/4, 9:46 PM CT
Chipper Jones notched his third home run of the year in the Braves' 6-4 loss on Monday. Chipper is hitting .296 on the season with nine RBI.

Our View: Chipper is hitting almost .300, but his home run and RBI totals are pretty low. He is still a good fantasy player, but he needs to improve the RBI total if he is going to stay a top option.
Chipper Jones, 3B, Atlanta BravesSaturday 4/25, 3:28 PM CT
Chipper Jones went 2-for-4 including his second home run of the season for the Braves. Chipper also knocked in four runs in the outing, matching his total from the first 11 games.

Our View: This outing pushed Chipper's batting average to .298, and it was nice to see him finally drive the ball. Chipper's production will be there when he plays, that much is certain, but as always, injuries will continue to be a concern.
Chipper Jones, 3B, Atlanta BravesSunday 4/19, 5:13 PM CT
Chipper Jones was back in action on Sunday as the Braves beat Pittsburgh 11-1. The third baseman was 1-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored. He had not played in five days due to a bruised thumb.

Chipper Jones, 3B, Atlanta BravesFriday 4/17, 8:55 AM CT
Chipper Jones is expected to miss the entire three-game series against the Pirates while nursing a jammed left thumb, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Our View: The series starts Friday at PNC Park and ends on Sunday. Omar Infante will be the top candidate to replace Jones at third.
Chipper Jones, 3B, Atlanta BravesThursday 4/16, 12:41 PM CT
Chipper Jones missed Thursday's game with a bruised thumb. It marks the second straight day he has missed with the injury.

Our View: Omar Infante has filled in admirably for the third baseman. The bruised thumb should not keep Chipper out much longer. However, it further illustrates the switch-hitters fragility.
Chipper Jones, 3B, Atlanta BravesWednesday 4/15, 4:14 PM CT
The Miami Herald is reporting that Chipper Jones is not in the lineup for Wednesday night's game against the Marlins. His bruised thumb has been bothering him a little, so he will rest it tonight.

Chipper Jones, 3B, Atlanta BravesSunday 4/5, 10:22 PM CT
Chipper Jones was 2-for-4 in the season opener on Sunday, as his Braves stomped the rival Phillies 4-1. He also struck out twice and scored a run.

Our View: Looks like Chipper picked up right where he left off last year. The 2008 batting champion is a solid pick at third base overall, and an elite pick when he's healthy. Beware of the injury monkey though. It's been living with Chipper for years now.
Chipper Jones, 3B, Atlanta BravesSunday 4/5, 7:56 AM CT
Chipper Jones sat out Atlanta's final two spring games due to flu-like symptoms but will be fine to start in the team's season opener against Philadelphia on Sunday night, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution.

Our View: There had been a bit of concern that the 36-year-old veteran might be forced to sit out a game or two, but that doesn't appear to be a risk anymore. Start Jones with confidence, as he remains one of the top hitters in the game when active.
Chipper Jones, 3B, Atlanta BravesThursday 4/2, 3:49 PM CT
Chipper Jones went 2-for-2 in Thursday's 2-1 win over the Astros. Both of his knocks were singles.

Our View: The 36-year-old vet is a top-5 fantasy third baseman, but is an injury risk, so it is recommended to add solid depth at the hot corner if you draft Jones.
Chipper Jones, 3B, Atlanta BravesTuesday 3/31, 8:51 AM CT
Chipper Jones has agreed to a three-year extension with the Braves worth over $40MM, according to MLB.com. The deal includes an option for 2013.

Our View: It looks like the 36-year-old will play his entire career with Atlanta. He was a rookie with the club back in 1993, and has piled up 2,277 hits and 408 homers so far.
Chipper Jones, 3B, Atlanta BravesMonday 3/30, 10:10 PM CT
Chipper Jones and the Braves are close to a three-year contract extension that would keep him in Atlanta through the 2013 season. Jones turns 37 in April.

Our View: Jones was selected by the Braves with the first overall pick way back in 1990. The extension would employ him past his 41st birthday. We certainly love to see a Hall-of-Famer stick with one team throughout the length of his career, but the Braves have to be more than aware of Jones' on-going fragility. He has not played more than 137 games since the 2003 season. Regardless, with 408 home runs and a career-average of .310, he is the only switch-hitter in history with at least 300 home runs and a .300 average.
Chipper Jones, 3B, Atlanta BravesWednesday 3/25, 9:11 PM CT
Chipper Jones went 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBI on Wednesday in the Braves' 6-3 loss to the Nationals.

Our View: The record continues to spin around and around for Jones who puts up solid numbers but is always hurt. He puts up solid home run, RBI, and hit totals but usually misses around 40 games per year. If you draft Jones pick up a really good backup.
Chipper Jones, 3B, Atlanta BravesTuesday 3/24, 5:26 PM CT
Third baseman Chipper Jones returned to the Braves lineup on Tuesday, and he plans to play again on Wednesday. "I'm fine," he informs MLB.com. Jones strained his oblique on March 8 and has been resting the injury.

Our View: Chipper boldly assumes that he won't sprain an ankle, strain a calf, tweak his back, stub his toe, injure his ear, or otherwise get hurt on Tuesday. Let's just take it day-to-day here, buddy.
Chipper Jones, 3B, Atlanta BravesTuesday 3/24, 9:53 AM CT
Chipper Jones may return to the Braves' lineup Tuesday against the Pirates following his bout from a strained oblique, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Our View: Jones will remain a risky fantasy pick, and it is required to add solid insurance behind him if you decide to draft the 36-year-old vet.
Chipper Jones, 3B, Atlanta BravesFriday 3/20, 12:16 PM CT
Chipper Jones was hoping to return to the diamond by the end of the week, but he will need to wait a few more days after his strained side muscle bothered him while taking batting practice Thursday, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Jones said, "It still is not right. When I get past 70 or 80 percent [effort on his swing], it still bothers me."

Our View: The 36-year-old vet should be drafted with caution, and be sure to invest in solid insurance for him in case he fails to stay healthy.
Chipper Jones, 3B, Atlanta BravesSunday 3/15, 9:06 PM CT
CBSSports.com reports that Chipper Jones will leave Team USA and head back to Braves camp soon. He was scratched from Sunday's game after re-aggravating his strained oblique. The third baseman says the injury is "progressively getting worse." However, he also does not see it being a lingering issue once treated.

Our View: Jones wants to get back to the team doctors that he is familiar with. He could be held out of game action over the coming weeks. However, regardless of how much work he does or does not see this spring, if he is healthy on opening day, he will be in the lineup.
Chipper Jones, 3B, Atlanta BravesWednesday 3/11, 5:48 PM CT
Chipper Jones took batting practice from both sides and also fielded grounders on Wednesday, according to the AP. He injured his oblique in win over Venezuela, but he will be available to play on Saturday when the second round begins.

Our View: As expected, the injury was not overly serious. However, it's disheartening to see Chipper's numbers in the WBC (0-for-7) with five strikeouts. The fear of Jones suddenly turning into Mark Reynolds does not exist, but his odds of winning another batting title seem slim.
Chipper Jones, 3B, Atlanta BravesMonday 3/9, 11:29 AM CT

"We've got information trainers sent us and all that," manager Bobby Cox tells the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "May be two or three days, might be a week. We'll see." Jones suffered the injury on Sunday. The Braves did not pull him out of the World Baseball Classic.

Our View: It's good news that the Braves don't seem too worried. Chipper will remain day-to-day from now until October.

Chipper Jones, 3B, Atlanta BravesFriday 2/27, 4:10 PM CT
Chipper Jones hit his first home run of spring training against Pittsburgh on Friday, a two-run jack off Daniel McCutchen in the fifth inning.

Our View: The holder of last season's batting title continues to give opposing pitchers nightmares, as he has for the past 14 seasons. Jones turns 37 at the beginning of the season and is more than a bit brittle, but he's still expected to be one of the best and most consistent hitters in the game when healthy.
Chipper Jones, 3B, Atlanta BravesWednesday 2/18, 3:25 PM CT

Chipper Jones, 3B, Atlanta BravesFriday 1/23, 3:34 PM CT
Chipper Jones, who is entering the final year of his contract, wants to remain with Atlanta, according to MLB.com. Jones said, "The Braves organization is the only one I've ever known and I want to play in Atlanta forever. But, as we've found out, it doesn't always matter what the player wants. I'm hoping that an extension will be on the table soon. I've negotiated a contract during a season once before and it worked out fine for me. But there are too many distractions and that's not something I want to do again."

Our View: Jones held a .364 batting average and .470 OBP last season, and looks to be headed for another strong campaign in 2009 with the motivation of playing for a new contract.
Chipper Jones, 3B, Atlanta BravesThursday 1/8, 5:48 PM CT
Chipper Jones is doing his part to help the Braves to lure Derek Lowe to the Braves as he personally called the hurler, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution.

Our View: With the Braves losing John Smoltz to the Red Sox, they are scrambling to get involved in the bidding for Lowe as they could dearly use a top shelf 200-inning arm in the rotation. If the Braves are willing to go to four years on a contract offer, they could vault into the lead for Lowe's services.

Chipper Jones, 3B, Atlanta BravesSaturday 9/27, 8:08 PM CT
It looks like Chipper Jones will not start another game this year. Other than a few pinch hitting appearances Jones' 2008 season is done, according to MLB.com.

Chipper Jones, 3B, Atlanta BravesWednesday 9/24, 6:21 PM CT
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that Chipper Jones said he still hoped to play in the season-ending series against the Astros after the team’s day off Thursday. He has been battling a sore right shoulder and missed five consecutive starts including Wednesday's game. “I want to be in there,” he said. “I feel like I’ve made some strides [before Wednesday]. After another day we’ll see how it feels Friday, Saturday, Sunday. But as of today, I still can’t make throws like I need to. I’m hoping that it’s something that can be fixed over an offseason with rest. Hopefully it’s just bursitis or tendinitis and there’s nothing structurally wrong. But if there is something structurally wrong, it’s important to get it looked at right after the season’s over and hopefully get it fixed as quickly as possible so I can be ready for spring training.”

Our View: Don't bank on Jones returning this season. His MRI results should be back in a day or two and we will keep you updated as more information becomes available.

He said, "I’ll try to play Tuesday, and definitely try to play Wednesday. It doesn’t hurt as bad as it did, but it still hurts. I’m still having pain when I simulate throwing. It’s an impingement in the back of my shoulder."

Our View: He missed his third straight start Monday due to inflammation in his right shoulder. The switch-hitter noted that swinging the bat left-handed hurt much less than swinging right-handed. The Braves were scheduled to face lefty starters in each of the first two games of the Phillies series: rookie J.A. Happ on Monday and Cole Hamels today. Jones is notably 5-for-15 with two homers against Hamels.
Chipper Jones, 3B, Atlanta BravesMonday 9/22, 12:47 PM CT

Our View: Jones has an average of .362, and leads St. Louis' Albert Pujols, who is second at .351. If Jones sits, his chances of winning the title are high, as it would take a huge week by Pujols to gain 11 points.
Chipper Jones, 3B, Atlanta BravesSaturday 9/20, 7:19 PM CT
Chipper Jones sat out Saturday night's game against the Mets due to shoulder tendinitis, according to the AP. Jones said, "I can’t really throw, as you saw last night. My throws have been terrible. I can’t get it across the infield, and swinging is worse. I couldn’t get the bat head where I needed to get it last night. I’m having to cut off my swing. I’m a detriment to us right now."

Our View: Jones currently leads the NL (and the majors) with a .362 batting average. To qualify for a batting title a player must have at least 502 plate appearances, and Jones has 523. We will keep you posted on his playing status.

Chipper Jones, 3B, Atlanta BravesWednesday 7/23, 7:36 PM CT
Chipper Jones injured his hamstring on Wednesday and was forced to leave the Braves game in the fourth inning, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: Ugh. Jones is a walking injury report, yet more times than not he is able to drag his weary body out onto the field and perform at a high level. Given that he continues to have troubles with his legs, we wouldn't be shocked if this latest setback leads to some DL time, though the team is saying that the injury is relatively minor and won't require a stint on the injured list.

Chipper Jones, 3B, Atlanta BravesFriday 6/20, 9:03 PM CT
Chipper Jones was forced from the Braves game on Friday night due to re-aggravating his strained right quadriceps, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: The good news is that even though he appeared to suffer the injury in the fourth inning, he continued to play until being removed in the eighth for defensive purposes. Given the fact that he has been hampered for weeks by this injury, we wouldn't be shocked to see him miss the rest of the weekend series just to make sure he doesn't blow the muscle out.
Chipper Jones, 3B, Atlanta BravesThursday 6/19, 6:22 PM CT
Chipper Jones went 0-for-4 and his major league-leading batting average fell below .400 for the first time since April 12. He's hitting .394 after today's bagel.

Our View: It was inevitable. Jones' owners should be thrilled if the future Hall of Famer can hit .350-plus this season. More important than hitting for a high average: keeping the Braves in the postseason race so he's still playing in September and keeping the oft-injured third baseman upright.

Chipper Jones, 3B, Atlanta BravesMonday 6/16, 9:45 AM CT

Chipper Jones, 3B, Atlanta BravesSaturday 6/14, 8:56 PM CT
Atlanta third baseman Chipper Jones was back in action today sporting a black eye, according to MLB.com.

Our View: The Braves are going to be happy to have the face of offensive success for the league back in the batting order as they battle with the offensive-minded Angels. Chipper Jones (quadriceps) returned to the lineup on Wednesday night for a suddenly depleted Braves squad, according to MLB.com. "I'm sore, but I've got to go," said Jones. People are going to have to realize that I'm not dogging it," Jones said. "I'm just trying to stay in the game."

Our View: We have said this all along - the only thing likely to stop Chipper this season is his health, so it remains to be seen how he will manage given his less than 100% status right now.
Chipper Jones, 3B, Atlanta BravesTuesday 6/10, 6:18 PM CT
Chipper Jones is not in the lineup for Tuesday's tilt against the Cubs. It will be the second straight game he's missed due to a small tear in his right quad. "I'm hoping maybe [to] be back in there tomorrow," Jones informs the AP. "It's better. I still can't run the way I need to. I wouldn't be able to run the bases. I don't know what kind of range I would have out at third base."

Our View: We haven't seen the lineup yet, but Omar Infante will likely get the start at third on Tuesday. We'll continue to follow Chipper's progress.
Chipper Jones, 3B, Atlanta BravesMonday 6/9, 3:04 PM CT
Chipper Jones has been named the NL Player of the Week, according to the Sports Network. Jones led the NL with a .579 (11-for-19) batting average, a 1.105 slugging percentage and a .652 on-base percentage for the week, with his 11 hits tying for the most in the league. He also blasted three homers, with six RBI.

Our View: Jones is still hitting above .400 with a .420 mark, over 58 games.
Chipper Jones, 3B, Atlanta BravesSunday 6/8, 11:16 AM CT
Chipper Jones won't play Sunday and may miss one or two additional games due to a small tear in his right quadriceps, according to the AP. Chipper injured the muscle on April 9 and felt more soreness as the Braves' road trip continued. "I won't do anything today or tomorrow," he said. "I'll see how it feels after the off day. ... I'll probably miss a day or two in Chicago."

Our View: Omar Infante is in the lineup today in Chipper's place.
Chipper Jones, 3B, Atlanta BravesSaturday 6/7, 10:24 PM CT
Chipper Jones produced the only two runs the Braves scored on Saturday with a 2-run home run, his 15th of the season.

Our View: Jones still reached base twice in four AB to leave his OBP at a Bondsian .503, while his .420 average is Cobbian.
Chipper Jones, 3B, Atlanta BravesFriday 6/6, 3:18 PM CT
Chipper Jones told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that he would like to play at least four more years and that he would prefer to spend those years with the Braves. "I don't think there's any reason I can't play through 40," he said, "long as I don't let my body go, which is not going to happen. I'm too active year-round to let my body go.

Our View: The Braves have an option that would pay Jones $8-11 million in '09 depending on performance, although it is expected that the number would be closer to $11 million. If Chipper were to hit the open market, healthy, he would garner more in the neighborhood of 15-16 million.
Chipper Jones, 3B, Atlanta BravesThursday 6/5, 9:48 PM CT
Chipper Jones had four hits, including the 400th home run of his career, for the Braves on Thursday night as he ended the contest batting .418. He also stole his first base of the season.

Our View: OK, this is starting to get serious. Two hits tonight came on balls that no one but Vladimir Guerrero gets hits on, but Chipper is just that locked in. Through a slightly more than a third of the season, Chipper has hit well over the magical .400 mark.
Chipper Jones, 3B, Atlanta BravesWednesday 6/4, 1:32 PM CT
Chipper Jones had a scheduled day off and wasn't in Wednesday's lineup against the Marlins, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Our View: He was replaced at third base by Omar Infante. Jones could appear as a pinch-hitter.
Chipper Jones, 3B, Atlanta BravesTuesday 6/3, 9:37 PM CT
Third baseman Chipper Jones continues to carry the load for the Atlanta Braves as they earned a 5-4 win over Florida this evening. Jones went 2-for-4 at the dish, hitting his 13th home run of the season to total three RBIs and two runs scored on the night.

Our View: Jones is now hitting .409 on the season, going 40-for-96 through May.
Chipper Jones, 3B, Atlanta BravesMonday 6/2, 12:53 PM CT
The season is now into June, and Chipper Jones is still hitting over .400 (.405), according to MLB.com. Jones will battle the Marlins next, a team he is batting .309 over his career against, with 35 homers and 137 RBI.

Our View: The Marlins will use two left-handed pitchers in the series against the Braves, but the switch-hitting Jones should remain hot.
Chipper Jones, 3B, Atlanta BravesMonday 5/26, 11:41 AM CT
Chipper Jones is back in the starting lineup on Monday after missing Sunday's game due to back spasms.

Our View: We didn't expect Chipper to miss more than a game or two.
Chipper Jones, 3B, Atlanta BravesSunday 5/25, 12:25 PM CT
Chipper Jones has been scratched for Sunday action, according to MLB.com. He has been forced out with an isolated spasm in the middle of his back. Jones said he may be able to pinch-hit and was feeling considerably better on Sunday morning after receiving treatments. Jones also stated that his back seized up while playing with his children on Saturday night. Unlike the back spasms that forced Jones to miss two games against the Mets on April 25 and 26, this pain is isolated. Kelly Johnson will now bat third in the Braves' lineup, and said, "Hopefully, he's only out this game. Because, no offense to me or anybody else, but we need his bat in the lineup."

Our View: Omar Infante will start at third base. Jones fought back ailments all season long, and is still impressively hitting .417 with 12 homers and 35 RBI over 46 games. We will keep you posted regarding his status.
Chipper Jones, 3B, Atlanta BravesThursday 5/22, 10:33 PM CT
Chipper Jones returned to action after fouling a ball off his shin on Wednesday and the injury had little effect as he went 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Our View: Jones is now hitting .412 through 170 AB and he is once again proving that the only thing that is able to stop him on the field are the injuries that keep him off it.
Chipper Jones, 3B, Atlanta BravesWednesday 5/21, 11:56 PM CT
Chipper Jones left Wednesday's game after he was hit by a pitch in the right shin. The third baseman said he'll try to play Thursday, though. "It's swollen up pretty good," said Jones in the AP. "We'll see. I'm sure it will feel good tomorrow."

Our View: Chipper is always dealing with something it seems. He should be OK, though, this time around.
Chipper Jones, 3B, Atlanta BravesTuesday 5/20, 10:41 PM CT
Atlanta third baseman Chipper Jones posted his 33rd RBI of the season as the Braves put the 6-2 loss on the Mets in the second game of their Tuesday double-header. Jones went 2-for-4 at the dish with his 10th double of the season with one RBI and one run scored.

Our View: This was Chipper's first RBI since May 14th, and while it is a small run of just five games (6-for-18), Jones is starting to slow just a bit.
Chipper Jones, 3B, Atlanta BravesFriday 5/16, 10:20 AM CT
Chipper Jones was scratched from the lineup Thursday with a groin strain, but he expects to play Friday, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "It's hard to sit out, especially after a good win last night," said Jones. "But I'm thinking bigger picture. If I can miss one game here and there to avoid missing six or seven, or a 15-day DL stint, then I have to be smart enough to be able to step aside for one game."

Our View: Chipper owners should be thrilled this ailment isn't a serious one, as the third baseman is scalding hot at the dish.
Chipper Jones, 3B, Atlanta BravesThursday 5/15, 6:59 PM CT
Chipper Jones tweaked his right groin in his last AB on Wednesday, and as a result the Braves will sit him out on Thursday night, according to MLB.com. The pain in the groin continued Thursday while hitting off a tee, but Chipper isn't likely headed to the DL with this latest ailment. "I feel confident that we'll get this thing knocked out and I will get back in there in no time," Jones said.

Our View: Jones is the heart of the Braves and all the fantasy teams he currently plays for thanks to a .418-11-32 line through 37 games. You know what you're getting with Chipper, and this is just one of those times that you have to be patient. Omar Infante figures to fill in.
Chipper Jones, 3B, Atlanta BravesWednesday 5/14, 9:16 PM CT
Atlanta 3B Chipper Jones is working as one of the hottest bats in the league and continued to work as such this evening as the Braves dismissed the Phillies 8-6. Jones went 2-for-4 at the plate with one walk, hitting his 11th home run of the season in the 1st inning to set the tone for an offensive surge by the Braves.

Our View: Jones is now hitting .418 on the season, sitting at 20-for-46 (.435) with three homers and 11 RBIs.
Chipper Jones, 3B, Atlanta BravesTuesday 5/13, 9:09 PM CT
Not ready to let the dream die, Chipper Jones had another three hits on Tuesday to push his average back up to .415.

Our View: At some point this will all come crashing to a halt, but with the way that Chipper is locked in right now it might take an injury to derail him as pitchers are having no luck whatsoever in slowing him down.
Chipper Jones, 3B, Atlanta BravesMonday 5/12, 2:48 PM CT
Chipper Jones went 3-for-4 in Monday's 5-0 loss to Pittsburgh in the early game of a double-header. He also drew one walk.

Our View: Jones raised his average to .410, and that was his fifth mult-hit game in May.
Chipper Jones, 3B, Atlanta BravesWednesday 5/7, 9:00 PM CT
Veteran Chipper Jones continues to get the job done for the Atlanta Braves, once again smacking the ball around the yard in the 5-2 win over the San Diego Padres this evening. Jones went 2-for-4, hitting his seventh double of the season.

Our View: That brings Jones' batting average to .429, touting four multi-hit games through five May battles (10-for-19, two home runs, eight RBIs).
Chipper Jones, 3B, Atlanta BravesTuesday 5/6, 9:35 PM CT
Atlanta 3B Chipper Jones enjoyed another strong night at the plate, helping his Braves earn a 5-3 win over the San Diego Padres. Jones went 1-for-2 at the plate with two walks, hitting his 10th home run of the season to gather two RBIs on the evening.

Our View: That brings Jones to 29 RBIs thus far with an impressive .426 batting average, one of the best starts he has enjoyed since his best days as the young offensive catalyst for the Braves. It certainly helped cover for the 0-for-4 performance of 1B Mark Teixeira hitting cleanup behind Jones (leaving five men on base).
Chipper Jones, 3B, Atlanta BravesSunday 5/4, 4:08 PM CT
Chipper Jones went 3-for-6 with a double, homer, and five RBI in Sunday's win over the Reds. He is hitting .425 with 27 RBI through 28 games.

Our View: Larry is up to 395 homers for his career, and there's been no better fantasy third baseman thus far in 2008. A-Rod, David Wright, Miggy Cabrera, and a few other hot corner denizens should eventually catch up to Chipper in the fantasy rankings, but not too many hitters can match what Jones does on a per-game basis.
Chipper Jones, 3B, Atlanta BravesTuesday 4/29, 6:04 PM CT
Chipper Jones is back in the lineup Tuesday after missing a pair of games with back spasms.

Our View: Chipper will have his bumps and bruises throughout the year, but hopefully he'll avoid anything major.
Chipper Jones, 3B, Atlanta BravesMonday 4/28, 11:43 AM CT
The back spasms that have bothered Chipper Jones have subsided, and he is optimistic he could return to the Braves lineup on Tuesday against the Nationals, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Our View: Martin Prado has performed well while filling in at third base, but he is not a worthy substitute for Jones, as he was hitting .433 over 90 at-bats with seven homers and 20 RBI before being forced out of action by his back.
Chipper Jones, 3B, Atlanta BravesSunday 4/27, 3:41 PM CT
Atlanta 3B Chipper Jones sat out his second consecutive game as the team reports he is struggling with back spasms.

Our View: Jones spoke with reporters after the game and reports the spasms were gone but a sharp pain in his lower back remains and has hindered his mobility. The Braves have Monday off and hope to have Jones back on Tuesday when they face the Washington Nationals.
Chipper Jones, 3B, Atlanta BravesSaturday 4/26, 10:54 AM CT
Chipper Jones has been removed from the Braves' lineup after re-injuring his back while dressing for Saturday's game against the Mets, according to SI.com. He reportedly said that he threw his back out, and the severity of the ailment is yet to be decided.

Our View: Chipper is hitting .433 with seven homers over 23 games, and it took a back injury to slow him down. We will keep you posted on his status.
Chipper Jones, 3B, Atlanta BravesThursday 4/24, 10:19 PM CT
Chipper Jones celebrated his 36th birthday by going 3-for-3 with his seventh home run of the season on Thursday. On his birthday in his career he is hitting an amazing .500-5-8-10 in 36 AB.

Our View: Chipper is hitting .442 through 86 AB in just about the hottest stretch of his HOF career, which of course means he is just about ready to blow out something.
Chipper Jones, 3B, Atlanta BravesMonday 4/21, 3:40 PM CT
Chipper Jones is listed in the Braves lineup for Monday night despite a strained right quad, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

Our View: We thought Larry might miss one game, but this confirms the injury (or aggravated injury) wasn't serious.
Chipper Jones, 3B, Atlanta BravesMonday 4/21, 9:44 AM CT
Chipper Jones doesn't expect to miss much time after aggravating his sore right quad on Sunday. "I'm going to try to [play] tomorrow," Jones tells the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "But if I wake up sore and it's sore just standing around, how's it going to be playing?" Manager Bobby Cox adds that Jones is questionable for Monday but is expected to be fine after that.

Our View: We won't be surprised if Chipper misses one game before returning to action. Fantasy owners should plan on starting him this week.
Chipper Jones, 3B, Atlanta BravesSunday 4/20, 3:37 PM CT
Chipper Jones irritated his strained right quad while while running out a double and left the Braves' game against the Dodgers on Sunday, according to the AP. Jones notably tweaked his right quad on April 9 at Colorado, and felt more soreness as the Braves’ road trip continued in Washington.

Our View: There are no more details at this time, and his status is yet to be updated.
Chipper Jones, 3B, Atlanta BravesFriday 4/18, 9:54 PM CT
Chipper Jones hit two home runs for the second straight game and knocked in four runs for the Braves on Friday night.

Our View: Jones is unconscious right now hitting .455 with six HR and 18 RBI in 16 games, and he is once again proving why talk of the HOF is 100% accurate.
Chipper Jones, 3B, Atlanta BravesThursday 4/17, 9:20 PM CT
Chipper Jones went 4-for-4 with two homers and three RBI to help the Atlanta Braves beat the Florida Marlins 8-0 on Thursday night.

Our View: Enjoy it while Chipper is healthy, because it's an inevitable occurrence that he will miss time to an injury at some point this year. Why shouldn't he join the rest of the Braves' disabled?
Chipper Jones, 3B, Atlanta BravesTuesday 4/15, 3:16 PM CT
Chipper Jones has fared well over his career against Scott Olsen, tonight's opposing pitcher for Florida, according to MLB.com. Jones is hitting 8-for-13 with two homers, two doubles, and a triple versus Olsen.

Our View: Jones is hitting 20-for-49 with two homers this season, and remains a strong fantasy option for tonight.
Chipper Jones, 3B, Atlanta BravesSunday 4/13, 4:53 PM CT
Chipper Jones went 3-for-5 with a homer, double, one run, and two RBI in a loss to the Nationals on Sunday. He has a six-game hitting streak and is batting .408 on the young season.

Our View: On a per-game basis, few hitters produce as well as Larry. It's just too bad Chipper is almost certain to miss 25 or 30 games before the season is over.
Chipper Jones, 3B, Atlanta BravesSunday 4/13, 4:52 PM CT

Chipper Jones was back in action Friday, going 2-for-2 with a walk in three trips to the plate, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "Chipper had a great day," manager Bobby Cox said. "He hit two balls on the button and got a walk his other time up." Jones had missed the previous four contests due to a strained hamstring. With any luck, this will be his last ailment for a while, but don't count on it.
Chipper Jones, 3B, Atlanta BravesThursday 3/6, 6:11 PM CT
Chipper Jones should be back from a strained hamstring and in the Braves lineup on Friday, this according to MLB.com. Chipper has not only hit but taken grounders in the field, so it sounds like the team is just being careful with its offensive leader early in camp.
Chipper Jones, 3B, Atlanta BravesTuesday 3/4, 4:50 PM CT
Chipper Jones may be ready to return to exhibition action as soon as Thursday, according to the AP. Jones is dealing with a strained right hamstring, but the Braves aren't concerned about it. At this point, you shouldn't, either. However, at this stage of his career, you should expect him to battle to stay healthy.
Chipper Jones, 3B, Atlanta BravesTuesday 3/4, 12:43 PM CT
Chipper Jones took some ground balls and 30 left-handed swings Monday and had no problems. Chipper injured his right hamstring when he was batting right-handed Sunday, and he's going to wait a couple more days before taking some swings from that side, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. He hopes to play by this weekend. Chipper is always going to be dealing with some sort of nagging injury. It's nothing to be concerned about at this point.

Chipper Jones, 3B, Atlanta BravesFriday 9/14, 10:12 PM CT

"Unfortunately I swung and missed a lot [Tuesday] night." Jones is day-to-day with both shoulder and groin soreness.
Chipper Jones, 3B, Atlanta BravesWednesday 8/29, 4:48 AM CT
Chipper Jones was able to play Tuesday despite the nagging groin injury he's been dealing with. Jones played all 11 innings in the loss at Florida, going 1-for-4 with a homer and a walk. Given that Jones hasn't really been healthy at all in 2007, he's having an outstanding year (.335 average, 22 homers, 79 RBI in 108 games).
Chipper Jones, 3B, Atlanta BravesMonday 8/27, 6:44 AM CT
Chipper Jones aggravated a sore groin muscle during Saturday's game. He took batting practice before Sunday's game but decided he couldn't play through the malady, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Chipper got in only eight game since returning from the DL after recovering from bruised palms. Once a workhorse, who never missed games, the aging Jones now appears unable to get healthy. It sounds like he will miss at least some more action, regardless.

Chipper Jones, 3B, Atlanta BravesMonday 6/11, 6:30 AM CT
Chipper Jones took a turn for the better on Sunday, as he continues to recover from sore wrists. He was able to test them by taking batting practice, and it's possible he could return to action as soon as Tuesday, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "some more batting practice from both sides, see how it feels," said Jones. "Depending on that, I guess we'll make a decision on Tuesday. If it feels good enough to go, I want to get back in there. If I'm still feeling pain, I'll probably wait another couple days." Since he's not certain and still hurting, it's tough to go ahead and put him in weekly lineups that need to be set Monday. But it appears that Jones should be back in action at some point this week.

Although he's eligible to come off the disabled list on Friday, he likely will need several more weeks to recover from his injured wrists, according to the AP. "It's a bone bruise," he said. "But it's right where the ligament meets the bone." Jones has received cortisone injections as treatment and is wearing removable splints to immobilize the joints. Yunel Escobar will continue manning the hot corner in the interim.
Chipper Jones, 3B, Atlanta BravesFriday 6/1, 1:27 PM CT
Chipper Jones will be placed on the DL because of lingering soreness in his hands and wrists. Jones hasn't played since May 23 due to the injury. X-rays on Jones' wrist were negative, but he's concerned there might be some ligament or other damage, and he's not sure what the next course of action is. "I have absolutely no idea," he said in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "I don't know what to do. We're doing everything. I'll try to strengthen the wrist, and hopefully the bone bruises will heal in this down time." The Braves will purchase the contract of Yunel Escobar from Triple-A Richmond to replace Jones on the roster.
