Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxFriday 3/19, 2:44 PM CT
Josh Beckett had another mediocre spring outing on Friday, allowing six hits, four runs, two walks and a home run in 3.1 innings against the Pirates.

Our View: So far this spring, Beckett hasn't looked over his second half struggles from 2009. You might be best served by moving him down your draft board a round or two.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxSunday 3/14, 9:48 AM CT
Josh Beckett has been scratched from his scheduled spring start on Sunday due to illness, according to Amalie Benjamin of the Boston Globe.

Our View: Ryne Miller will go in his place. Stay tuned for an update.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxSunday 3/14, 8:22 AM CT
The Red Sox and Josh Beckett are apparently wrangling over potential injury provisions in contract negotiations, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View: The Sox want to be protected against injury in any potential deal, and Beckett seems open to the idea. He doesn't sound very likely to bolt Boston. Stay tuned.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxWednesday 3/10, 4:33 PM CT
Contract talks between the Red Sox and Josh Beckett's rep are progressing, according to Jon Heyman's (Sports Illustrated) twitter page.

Our View: Optimism for a new deal is believed to be high. Beckett has won 65 games over his four seasons in Boston, with a high of 20 coming in 2007. As for fantasy leagues, he should be headed for another fine campaign in 2010.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxMonday 3/8, 4:53 PM CT
Josh Beckett fired three hitless innings in Monday's 7-6 preseason win over St. Louis. He had no walks and three strikeouts.

Our View: Beckett looks to be a safe fantasy pick among starting pitchers for 2010. He won 17 games in 2009, and held a nice 1.19 WHIP.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxThursday 2/25, 10:44 PM CT
Josh Beckett doesn't sound inclined to negotiate a contract extension with the Red Sox during the 2010 season, according to WEEI.

Our View: It sounds like there's a chance the two sides could workout an agreement before the beginning of the regular season, but if not, expect Beckett to test the free agent waters next winter.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxSunday 2/21, 2:24 PM CT
Josh Beckett, who's in the final year of his contract, said that he's talked with the Red Sox about another contract but failed to give any details, according to ESPN.com.

Our View: Beckett also said that he has no plans to publicly discuss his contract situation at any point this offseason. It remains to be seen whether or not Boston will sign Beckett to an extension this offseason or into the season, but you have to believe they'll do what they can to prevent him from hitting the free agent market heading into 2011.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxSunday 2/7, 9:54 AM CT
The Boston Globe's Nick Cafardo doesn't believe the Red Sox will sign Josh Beckett to a contract extension similar to the five-year, $82 million one A.J. Burnett signed with the Yankees last offseason.

Our View: Beckett, of course, is scheduled to be a free agent after the conclusion of the 2010 season. Cafardo believes the Sox will instead try to sign him to a deal similar to the three-year, $60 million one Roy Halladay recently signed with the Phillies. They apparently do not trust his shoulder to hold up for five more seasons. Stay tuned.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxTuesday 12/15, 7:32 PM CT
Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports noted that the Red Sox are trying to sign Josh Beckett to an extension.

Our View: The 29-year-old hurler's current contract runs out after the 2010 campaign. He earned 17 wins for Boston last season, and held a 3.86 ERA and 1.19 WHIP over 32 starts.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxTuesday 11/3, 6:56 PM CT
Josh Beckett is expected to talk to Boston regarding a contract extension, according to WEEI.com.

Our View: Beckett has a team option for 2010 worth $12.1MM, but would then become a free agent without an extension. The 29-year-old hurler namely wants to know if he is in Boston's future plans, or if they intend to get younger at the position.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxSaturday 10/10, 12:11 AM CT
Josh Beckett surrendered all four runs of Friday's 4-1 loss to the Angels as the Red Sox fell into a deep 2-0 hole in the ALDS.

Our View: Five hits and a walk led to the four runs in Beckett's 6.2 innings of work and he looked far from sharp. A triple to Erick Aybar was the only extra-base hit he allowed, but he couldn't get the clutch out to keep the Halos off the board. He threw 103 pitches (64 for strikes) before being pulled in the seventh.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxSaturday 10/3, 10:30 PM CT
Josh Beckett got the win on Saturday, but his offense did most of the work in an 11-6 blowout of the Indians. He was touched for four runs on seven hits and three walks over just five innings.

Our View: Beckett is 17-6 this year, but has an uncharacteristically high ERA of 3.86. He still racks up the Ks though with 204 this season.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxWednesday 9/30, 2:19 PM CT
According to the Twitter page of ESPN.com's Amy K. Nelson, Red Sox's ace Josh Beckett threw a side session in the bullpen on Wednesday. Beckett is expected to start Friday for the Sox.

Our View: Beckett missed his last start with neck spasms, but it looks like he should be fine. The session went well, so expect a fully healthy Beckett for the playoffs.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxTuesday 9/29, 2:53 PM CT
Josh Beckett (mild neck spasms) says he will be able to make his next scheduled start on Saturday after being scratched on Monday, and could go earlier if need be, according to Amalie Benjamin of the Boston Globe.

Our View: Very reassuring news for a team that doesn't want to go into the playoffs without one of the best postseason players of all time. He very well could have his start moved up so he has more time to rest for the playoffs, so be sure to monitor him as the week progresses.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxMonday 9/28, 2:52 PM CT
Josh Beckett has been scratched from his scheduled start on Monday night due to mild back spasms, according to the Twitter page of Ian Browne. Beckett will be replaced by Michael Bowden on the mound.

Our View: This isn't anything for Sox fans to be worried about, and this condition is said to be mild. Beckett will be ready to pitch the next time his name gets called, and there is no reason to think this will affect his postseason status.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxWednesday 9/23, 10:27 PM CT
Josh Beckett allowed two earned runs on 12 hits over six innings in Wednesday's 9-2 win at Kansas City. He had one walk and fired seven strikeouts.

Our View: Beckett is 2-1 over five starts this month, and collected his 16th win of 2009 tonight. CC Sabathia of the rival Yankees still leads the AL with 18 wins.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxFriday 9/18, 6:56 PM CT
Josh Beckett's next turn in Boston's rotation has been pushed back so he can get extra rest, according to the Providence Journal.

Our View: Beckett will make his next start Wednesday against Kansas City, with knuckleballer Tim Wakefield tentatively slated for Monday. The Sox have 20 straigt games coming up, so skipper Terry Francona decided it was time to give Beckett an extra day of rest.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxThursday 9/17, 8:57 PM CT
Josh Beckett scattered three runs over eight innings on Thursday, while striking out seven, but couldn't pick up his 16th win, as Boston lost 4-3 to the Angels.

Our View: Regardless of whether or not he won, Thursday marked Beckett's third straight solid start, and he looks primed and ready to once again dominate in October.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxSaturday 9/12, 11:13 PM CT
Josh Beckett picked up a rain-shortened complete game on Saturday, allowing just one run and four hits in five innings, as Boston smoked the Rays 9-1 at home.

Our View: More importantly, he allowed no home runs for the second straight start. He appears to be regaining his usual dominant form as the playoffs near.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxMonday 9/7, 4:00 PM CT
Josh Beckett dropped another game on Monday as the Red Sox fell to the White Sox by a score of 5-1. Beckett went seven innings and allowed three runs on six hits while walking two and striking out four.

Our View: Beckett was much better today than he has been lately, but he still wasn't good enough to pick up the win. The Sox should be a bit concerned with the recent play of their ace, as they will need him come playoff time.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxThursday 9/3, 11:35 AM CT
By virtue of allowing two home runs in the Red Sox loss to the Rays on Wednesday, Josh Beckett joined some inglorious company, becoming only the third pitcher since 1960 to allow 14 home runs in a span of five starts, according to the Houston Chronicle's Richard Justice.

Our View: The other two? Jose Lima and Aaron Harang. Beckett's recent home runs allowed binge now has him sixth in the American League, with 24. He is 1-1 with a 7.47 ERA during the span.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxWednesday 9/2, 10:31 PM CT
Josh Beckett was tagged for five runs (four earned) on seven hits over six innings in Wednesday's 8-5 loss at Tampa Bay. He issued no walks and fired nine strikeouts. He gave up solo homers to Carl Crawford and Pat Burrell.

Our View: Beckett had a tough night, but takes a no-decision instead of a loss as the Sox tied the game at 5-5 in the top of the eighth. On the positive side, he fired nine strikeouts in each of his last two starts.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxFriday 8/28, 11:43 PM CT
Josh Beckett did not look like himself on Friday. He surrendered five runs on five hits and five walks to the Blue Jays. He fanned nine, but didn't factor in the decision as Boston eventually won 6-5.

Our View: Beckett is in the midst of a very disturbing cold streak. He's allowed seven, eight and five runs respectively in his last three starts. Over that stretch his ERA has ballooned from 3.10 to 3.80.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxSunday 8/23, 10:41 PM CT
Josh Beckett was lit up for eight earned runs on nine hits over eight innings in Sunday's 8-4 loss to the rival Yankees at Fenway Park. He had no walks with five strikeouts, and was rocked for five homers.

Our View: Beckett was dealt his fifth loss of 2009 for his nightmarish outing. He was hammered for seven earned runs over 5.1 innings in his last start at Toronto, and hopefully he will get back on track in his next trip to the hill.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxTuesday 8/18, 9:45 PM CT
Josh Beckett was lit up for seven earned runs on nine hits over 5.1 innings in Tuesday's 10-9 win at Toronto. He had one walk and four strikeouts, and was tagged for three homers.

Our View: Beckett had a nightmarish outing, and should be grateful that the Sox provided plenty of offensive firepower for him to end the night with a no-decision instead of a loss. He only allowed two earned runs over his previous three starts (21 innings) this month, and should be able to bounce back fine.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxWednesday 8/12, 9:42 PM CT
Josh Beckett mowed down the Tigers for seven innings Wednesday, as he allowed just two runs on three hits and a walk. He fanned six and earned his major league leading 14th victory with the 8-2 win.

Our View: Beckett is making a case for the AL Cy Young this season. His ERA is down to 3.10 and as long as he keeps piling up those wins the voters will take notice. It also doesn't hurt that he pitches in Boston surrounded by the East Coast media frenzy.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxSaturday 8/8, 12:04 AM CT
Josh Beckett only surrendered four hits over seven scoreless innings in Friday's 2-0 loss at rival New York. He had two walks and fired seven strikeouts.

Our View: Beckett pitched great tonight, but was dealt a no-decision as the game took 15 innings to declare a winner. He continues to lead the majors with 13 wins, and paces Boston with a 3.12 ERA.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxSaturday 8/1, 9:45 PM CT
Josh Beckett only allowed six hits over seven scoreless innings in Saturday's 4-0 win at Baltimore. He had two walks and five strikeouts.

Our View: Beckett enjoyed another strong outing, and now currently leads the majors with 13 wins. The ace hurler continues to lead the Sox with a 3.27 ERA as well.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxMonday 7/27, 9:33 PM CT
Josh Beckett was his usual great self against Oakland on Monday, improving to 12-4 after giving up three runs off eight hits and one walk with 10 strikeouts through seven innings.

Our View: Beckett has continued to excel for the Red Sox and is now 10-2 since the start of May. Continue to start him every week, regardless of his matchups.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxTuesday 7/21, 10:34 PM CT
Josh Beckett was tagged for four earned runs on seven hits over eight innings in Tuesday's 4-2 loss at Texas. He had one walk and fired seven strikeouts.

Our View: Beckett suffered his first loss since June 14, and remains tied with Tim Wakefield for the team lead with 11 wins. He should bounce back fine following tonight's tough outing.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxSunday 7/12, 4:20 PM CT
Josh Beckett put together a masterpiece on Sunday. He handed the Royals a complete game, three-hit shutout for a 6-0 Red Sox victory. Beckett struck out seven and did not walk a man.

Our View: The Red Sox ace is having a very strong 2009 campaign, after suffering through a down year last season. After dominating in June (4-1, 1.53 ERA), he struggled in his first July outing, but has sparkled in his last two, allowing just two runs in his past 15.2 innings.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxTuesday 7/7, 9:56 PM CT
Josh Beckett only allowed two earned runs on six hits over 6.2 innings in Tuesday's 5-2 win over Oakland at Fenway Park. He had one walk and four strikeouts.

Our View: Beckett earned his 10th win of the season, and is one away from 100 for his career. He bounced back fine from his last outing, when he gave up five earned runs at Baltimore.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxWednesday 7/1, 4:51 PM CT
Josh Beckett took his first no-decision since May 23 on Wednesday, giving up five earned runs in seven innings as the Red Sox rallied to beat Baltimore 6-5 in 11 innings.

Our View: Beckett had gone 5-1 since that last no-decision, lowering his ERA from 5.01 to 3.48 in the process. He is now 9-3 on the season, with a 3.67 ERA.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxFriday 6/26, 9:45 PM CT
Josh Beckett only issued six hits over seven scoreless innings in Friday's 4-1 win at Atlanta. He had no walks and racked up six strikeouts.

Our View: Beckett now co-leads the Sox (Tim Wakefield) with nine wins, and has not given up an earned run in four of his last five starts. He has been among the most dominant hurlers this month.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxSaturday 6/20, 8:50 PM CT
Josh Beckett shut down the Braves' offense on Saturday as the Red Sox defeated Atlanta 3-0. Beckett threw a complete game shutout while allowing five hits and striking out seven.

Our View: After struggling in his last start, Beckett looked like his usual dominating self tonight. He raised his record to 8-3 on the year, and he remains a top fantasy pitcher in all leagues.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxSunday 6/14, 5:03 PM CT
Josh Beckett got knocked around by the Phillies on Sunday as the Red Sox fell 11-6. Beckett went six innings and allowed five runs on 11 hits while striking out five. He is now 7-3 on the year.

Our View: Beckett just didn't have it today, but overall he has been very good this season. Don't worry too much about the bad start today, as it seems more likely that he will be good more times than not.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxTuesday 6/9, 10:35 PM CT
Josh Beckett was in control in Tuesday's 7-0 win over the rival Yankees at Fenway Park, as he only allowed one hit over six scoreless innings. He had two walks and fired eight strikeouts.

Our View: He earned his seventh win, and trimmed his ERA to 3.77. He has won three straight starts, and is worthy of his billing as the ace of Boston's rotation.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxWednesday 6/3, 9:32 PM CT
Josh Beckett allowed just two hits over 7.2 innings in Wednesday's 10-5 win over the Tigers. He struck out nine while allowing three unearned runs and two walks.

Our View: Beckett's April struggles appear firmly in the rearview mirror. He has not lost since April 30. He has allowed only two earned runs over his last three starts, a span of 22.2 innings. He has struck out 22 hitters in that stretch.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxThursday 5/28, 3:21 PM CT
Josh Beckett only allowed one earned run on three hits over seven innings of work in Thursday's 3-1 win at Minnesota. He issued four walks but fired eight strikeouts.

Our View: Other than the four free passes, this is one of Beckett's best outings of the season. He went 3-0 over five starts in May, and claimed his fifth win of the season today.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxSaturday 5/23, 9:29 PM CT
Josh Beckett was great against the Mets on Saturday, giving up zero earned runs (one total) off five hits and one walk with five strikeouts in eight innings. Unfortunately, he ended up with a no decision after Jonathan Papelbon blew the save in the ninth.

Our View: Beckett has now logged a quality start in all four of his outings this May after a rough end to April. He appears to be one of the better pitchers in the majors going forward.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxSunday 5/17, 12:09 AM CT
Josh Beckett picked up his fourth win of the year on Saturday as the Red Sox downed the Mariners 5-3. Beckett went seven innings and allowed three runs (two earned) on four hits while walking three and striking out five.

Our View: Beckett was decent tonight, and he lowered his ERA to 5.85 with the performance. Beckett has been anything but consistent this season, but he has shown in the past that he can dominate so you know he has it in him. Keep using him in all leagues, but if you can trade him for more than he is worth then go for it.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxSunday 5/10, 11:10 PM CT
Josh Beckett faired decently against a dangerous Rays lineup (minus Carlos Pena) on Sunday. He allowed six hits, three walks, and three runs while striking out five in six innings of work.

Our View: Beckett was pummeled for seven runs the last time he faced the Rays, so owners have to be encouraged somewhat by this outing. He has not performed well through seven starts but we still have to believe that the Red Sox ace will come around.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxTuesday 5/5, 10:04 PM CT
Josh Beckett was good enough on Tuesday as he got the win against the Yankees. Beckett went six innings and allowed three runs on ten hits while walking one and striking out five.

Our View: Not a dominant performance, but a performance that was good enough by Beckett. He gave his team a chance to win, which is all you can ask, and his team helped him out with some offense and some good bullpen work. This start was much better than his last, but still not the Beckett we know he can be.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxThursday 4/30, 10:10 PM CT
Josh Beckett allowed 10 hits, three walks, and seven earned runs as the Red Sox lost 13-0 to the Rays on Thursday.

Our View: Beckett has given up 15 earned runs in his last two starts and 9.2 innings. Aside from his opening day performance against the Rays, Beckett has not looked good at all this season. His ERA currently stands at 7.22.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxSaturday 4/25, 7:53 PM CT
Josh Beckett had a rough day on Saturday as the Red Sox beat the Yankees 16-11. He managed to last five innings while allowing 10 hits, four walks, and eight earned runs, while striking out three Yankees.

Our View: Ouch. Hopefully, Beckett's owners had him on the bench for this one, but it seems unlikely. His ERA jumped from 3.79 to 6.00 today. He should rebound just fine, but you may want to keep this one in mind the next time he takes on the Yankees.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxSunday 4/19, 11:03 AM CT
Josh Beckett's suspension for throwing at Bobby Abreu last week has been reduced from six games to five and the Red Sox will thus rescind their appeal to the league, according to the Boston Herald.

Our View: Beckett's next start, which was scheduled Friday against the Yankees, will be pushed back to Saturday as a result. He's been a bit shaky his past two starts but is still a must-start pitcher whenever he's healthy, which he is at the moment.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxSaturday 4/18, 11:30 PM CT
Josh Beckett struggled with his control, but was able to work out of jams and held on for the win on Saturday. He allowed six hits and four walks, but limited the Orioles to just three earned runs in six innings in Boston's 6-4 win.

Our View: Beckett allowed a lot of base runners today, but his five Ks helped him wiggle out of tight spots and fantasy owners were rewarded with a win. He's been decent so far this season, but there haven't been any blister sightings. So he's got that going for him. Which is nice.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxTuesday 4/14, 7:26 PM CT
According to WEEI.com, Josh Beckett will appeal his six-game suspension handed down to him today for throwing at Angels outfielder Bobby Abreu.

Our View: Beckett states that two of the umpires on Sunday's crew told him that he did the right thing by following through with his pitch after time was called. Beckett did however verbally assault Abreu afterward, which may have something to do with the suspension.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxTuesday 4/14, 1:27 PM CT
Josh Beckett has been suspended six games by MLB and fined an undisclosed amount for throwing at the head of Bobby Abreu, according to ESPN.

Our View: Beckett will miss one start, with Clay Buchholz the linkely candidate to fill in for him.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxSunday 4/12, 9:03 PM CT
Josh Beckett suffered his first loss of the season in Sunday's 5-4 loss to the Angels. He gave up eight hits, two walks, and four earned runs while striking out five in the game. The pitcher was also subject of some controversy when he threw a pitch near Bobby Abreu's head following a time out called by the umpire. Benches cleared and four Angels were ejected from the game.

Our View: Beckett was not at his best on Sunday, and should rebound just fine. He was dominant in his first start of the season on April 7 against the Rays, but was unable to hold onto the lead that the Sox gave him in the second inning on Sunday.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxTuesday 4/7, 6:33 PM CT
Josh Beckett was solid against the Rays in Boston's season opener on Tuesday. He allowed just one run and two hits over seven innings in a 5-3 Boston win.

Our View: Beckett was his usual self to start the season. He rung up 10 batters while showing awesome command. Of the 93 pitches he threw, 61 were strikes.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxMonday 4/6, 9:29 AM CT
Today's game between the Rays and Red Sox has been postponed to Tuesday due to wet field conditions, according to the Tampa Tribune.

Our View: The Red Sox and Rays will then play the second game of the series on Wednesday night at Fenway Park. This marks the first Boston home opener postponed since 2003, which was also due to rain.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxThursday 4/2, 4:44 PM CT
The Red Sox are content with the team that is currently in place and will not make any last-second deals, according to the Providence Journal.

Our View: The club will reportedly rely on Chris Carter and Nick Green to fill in for the injured Julio Lugo and Mark Kotsay. Both Jeff Keppinger and Frank Catalanatto have been mentioned, but the Sox don't appear ready to make a financial commitment to either one.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxWednesday 4/1, 3:54 PM CT
Josh Beckett allowed seven hits, a walk, and three earned runs while striking out four in 3.2 innings of work on Wednesday.

Our View: While Beckett didn't go as deep as the team would have liked, this performance should have little effect on what he will produce for Boston this season. In 31.1 innings this spring, he has 21 strikeouts against just six walks and holds a 3.25 ERA.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxSunday 3/29, 9:05 AM CT
Josh Beckett will start Boston's season opener, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View: That will mark his first opening day start with Boston since joining the club in November 2005. Beckett will be followed (in order) by Jon Lester, Daisuke Matsuzaka and Tim Wakefield. The club is yet to name their fifth starter.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxFriday 3/27, 4:31 PM CT
Josh Beckett allowed four runs on six hits and a walk over six innings to the Cardinals on Friday. He struck out four in the contest.

Our View: Beckett was a fantasy disappointment last season with an ERA that topped 4.00 and only 12 wins. He was brilliant in 2007, so there has to be an in between here. If he avoids his typical finger blisters in '09 expect an average of the last two seasons.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxSunday 3/22, 4:39 PM CT
Josh Beckett tossed five shutout innings against the Phillies on Sunday. He allowed four hits and a walk, while striking out two hitters.

Our View: Beckett has allowed 15 hits, three walks, and three runs over 18 innings this spring. He remains on the verge of being a Top 10 fantasy pitcher. His velocity was dropping at the end of last season, but he still managed nearly a strikeout per inning.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxTuesday 3/17, 3:10 PM CT
Josh Beckett allowed three earned runs on six hits over four innings in Tuesday's 9-5 win over the Twins in the Grapefruit League, with one walk and three strikeouts.

Our View: This was the first time he allowed any runs this spring, and he holds a 2.08 ERA. Beckett is a No. 1 fantasy pitcher, but is not as safe a pick after dealing with various ailments in 2008.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxThursday 3/12, 2:50 PM CT
Josh Beckett held the Cardinals to two hits and a walk over four innings Thursday. He has yet to allow a run this spring.

Our View: Beckett looks sharp so far. His ERA (4.03) and win (12) totals took a hit last season, but he seems poised to put up strong fantasy numbers yet again in 2009 with just a little better luck than last year when his BABIP was .327, well above his career .301 rate.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxFriday 3/6, 3:18 PM CT
Josh Beckett threw two scoreless innings, with three hits allowed, in Friday's 5-3 win over Florida in the Grapefruit League. He had no walks and two strikeouts.

Our View: He is yet to allow a run this spring, solidifying his ranking as a top-12 fantasy prospect at the position.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxFriday 3/6, 9:41 AM CT
Josh Beckett will start today's exhibition game against the Marlins, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View: The ace hurler will be facing his former team. Beckett has looked strong so far this spring, hence solidifying his ranking as a top-12 fantasy prospect at the position.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxSunday 3/1, 8:31 PM CT
Josh Beckett is looking like his old self again, pitching a pair of perfect innings to begin Boston's Grapefruit League game on Sunday.

Our View: Beckett has looked good in every facet of his game so far this spring, so we expect him to have a solid 2009 season overall.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxFriday 2/20, 2:17 PM CT
Manager Terry Francona noted that Josh Beckett looked good during his bullpen session today, according to the Providence Journal. He said the ball was coming of out Beckett's hand well, stayed in his delivery and kept the ball down.

Our View: Beckett should be a top-10 fantasy hurler for 2009, if he can stay healthy. It looks like he is off to a good start in camp.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxWednesday 2/11, 5:09 PM CT
Josh Beckett looked strong in a bullpen session on Wednesday, according to the Providence Journal. He appeared trimmer after being pictured throwing with a gut during spring training before the 2008 season and threw 62 pitches in the session.

Our View: Beckett is a great talent and when healthy can be very valuable in fantasy leagues. That was a big if last season as he was limited to 27 starts and 174.1 innings in which he only won 12 games after recording 20 victories in the 2007 season.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxThursday 10/23, 5:27 PM CT
WEEI.com reports that Josh Beckett struggled to put on his shirt prior to his Game 6 start and would have likely needed a cortisone shot to pitch in the World Series.

Our View: A winter of rest is exactly what the doctor ordered for Beckett's oblique strain. He was effective in the start while earning the win after five innings of work.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxSaturday 10/18, 11:09 PM CT
Josh Beckett only issued two earned runs on four hits over five innings in Saturday's crucial 4-2 win over the Rays in Game 6 of the ALCS.

Our View: The Red Sox tied the series 3-3, and live to fight another day, meaning Sunday's Game 7. Beckett received redemption for his nightmarish outing in Game 2 when he surrendered eight runs.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxFriday 10/17, 9:37 AM CT
The New York Post reports that Red Sox coach Terry Francona called the news that Josh Beckett tore his oblique muscle in his final regular season false.

Our View: Beckett gave up eight runs and nine hits in Game 2 of the series. His velocity was down and there has been a lot of speculation that he is still injured. He will start Game 6 on Saturday.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxThursday 10/16, 5:37 PM CT
Red Sox pitcher Josh Beckett does not have a torn oblique muscle, as was reported by Tom Verducci of Sports Illustrated, according to the Boston Herald. "When the media chooses to be not completely professional we get put in a tough position," said Boston manager Terry Francona.

Our View: Beckett has been bad, with an ERA of 11.57 in the postseason. It would seem to be very difficult to pitch with a torn oblique, but either way, Beckett was clearly hurting, and it affected him greatly.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxMonday 10/6, 8:31 PM CT
Josh Beckett claims that despite an average effort in Game 3 that he is physically healthy despite his recent oblique strain, according to The Providence Journal.

Our View: Beckett needed 106 pitches to make it through five innings as he was inefficient, and he worked exceedingly slowly during the game which certainly didn't help his defense to stay on their toes. If the Sox advance it will be interesting to see what Beckett does in his next appearance.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxSunday 10/5, 11:36 PM CT
Josh Beckett needed 106 pitches to make it through five uneven innings against the Angels in Game 3. Beckett ended his night after allowing four runs on nine hits and four walks while striking out six in a no-decision.

Our View: An old bugaboo came up again tonight as Beckett was taken deep twice by Mike Napoli. Beckett was testy with the umpire and clearly upset with himself as he failed to live up to his huge playoff reputation on this night.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxFriday 10/3, 6:33 PM CT
The Providence Journal reports that Josh Beckett has been confirmed by Terry Francona to start on Sunday in Game 3 of the ALDS. He had been dealing with a strained oblique that he suffered during a throwing session last week.

Our View: Beckett threw about 65 pitches in a bullpen session on Thursday, and it went well. Beckett was the most dominating pitcher in last season's playoffs and should perform well again.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxFriday 10/3, 7:46 AM CT
Josh Beckett threw about 65 pitches in a bullpen session on Thursday, and it went well, which means the likelihood of him starting Game 3 is high, according to the Boston Globe. "I will tell you from the look in his bullpen today, he looks ready to go for Sunday," according to Red Sox pitching coach John Farrell.

Our View: Beckett was dealing with a strained oblique, but with no complications in his side session, the issue seems cleared up.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxThursday 10/2, 11:03 AM CT
Red Sox starter Josh Beckett will throw a bullpen session on Thursday, which will have a great deal of influence on whether or not he will be able to pitch Game 3 of the team's ALDS against the Angels, according to the Boston Herald.

Our View: If everything goes as planned, and Beckett feels no ill effects from his strained oblique, then he will be able to pitch Game 3, which will be played Sunday.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxWednesday 10/1, 8:13 PM CT
The Star-Tribune reports that Josh Beckett played long toss Wednesday before the Boston Red Sox and Los Angeles Angels began their AL division series, and remains on track to start Game 3 on Sunday in Boston.

Our View: Beckett, originally scheduled to start Game 1, injured a muscle in his side last Friday during a bullpen session. He was probably the best pitcher in last year's playoffs and if he's healthy, should be set to dominate again.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxTuesday 9/30, 5:33 PM CT
Josh Beckett threw on the side on Tuesday and reported no setbacks with his strained right oblique, according to The Boston Globe. “The ball came out of his hands real well,” manager Terry Francona said. “Everything was very encouraging. Everything was real positive."

Our View: Beckett made 30 throws from 60 feet and 20 throws from 90 feet. He will play long toss on Wednesday. The team is cautiously optimistic that Beckett will be able to go in Game 3 though if he cannot Tim Wakefield or Paul Byrd would be called on.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxMonday 9/29, 8:30 AM CT
Josh Beckett has been pushed back from Game 1 to Game 3 of the first round against the Angels due to his oblique injury, according to the Boston Globe. Manager Terry Francona said, "I don't think we would slot him in if we weren't confident. If it goes the wrong way, we're going to use hopefully very good judgment. We're slotting him in there because we think he can pitch there."

Our View: He is penciled in to start Sunday at Fenway Park, following Jon Lester (Game 1) and Daisuke Matsuzaka (Game 2). The Angels were the only team to win 100 games this season, and Beckett's injury will decrease Boston's odds to claim their third title in five years.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxSunday 9/28, 10:35 PM CT
The Boston Herald reports that Josh Beckett has suffered an oblique injury and may not be able to face the Angels in the Division Series.

Our View: Terrible news for the Red Sox. He might throw in Game 3 but is definitely out for Games 1 and 2.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxMonday 9/22, 9:44 PM CT
Josh Beckett fell to 12-10 on Monday as he hit a career-high three batters while he also threw a wild pitch and walked in a run against the Indians. Overall, Beckett lasted six innings allowing four runs on seven hits.

Our View: Beckett's ERA crept over four with this outing (4.03), and his 12 wins mean he will have his worst win total since 2004. Despite the some varied performances, Beckett still owns a 1.19 WHIP and 174 K in 174.1 innings so it's not like he hasn't been a useful fantasy play this season.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxTuesday 9/16, 9:38 PM CT
Josh Beckett threw eight innings of one run ball on Tuesday but it wasn't good enough for the win as the Rays won 2-1. Beckett finished with a no decision and struck out seven in the process.

Our View: It was another pitchers' duel with Andy Sonnastine won by Tampa Bay. Beckett has been a typical ace in September, allowing just two runs in 19 innings of work.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxWednesday 9/10, 11:32 PM CT
Josh Beckett was sharp on this night limiting the Rays to just one run over six innings in a no-decision. On the evening, Beckett allowed six hits and two walks while striking out seven.

Our View: Beckett had the hammer curve working well, but his fastball lacked some of its ordinary zip. Still, he held the Rays to just one run showing that even when not at his best he is still a force to be reckoned with.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxFriday 9/5, 10:32 PM CT
Josh Beckett struck out seven over five scoreless innings in his first start in nearly three weeks. It was his 12th win of the season.

Our View: He struck out four of the first eight batters he faced. The right-hander was on a limited pitch count, throwing 49 of his 80 pitches for strikes without walking a batter and allowing four singles. He looks like he should return to the big-game ace form that he has come to be known for.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxFriday 9/5, 4:57 PM CT
The AP reports that Josh Beckett has been activated from the DL and will start Friday's game at Texas. He is only expected to throw 60-75 pitches. He has been sidelined since August 17 with right shoulder inflammation.

Our View: 2008 has been very average for the Boston ace, however we all know he tends to pitch better the bigger the games. With the Red Sox breathing down Tampa Bay's collective neck, expect Becket to start lowering his 4.34 ERA soon.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxWednesday 9/3, 9:29 AM CT
Josh Beckett remains on pace in his recovery from right elbow inflammation, and the Boston Globe reports he is expected to return this weekend against the Rangers.

Our View: He worked a 58-pitch bullpen session Tuesday, and had good velocity on his throws. He will be on a short leash for his projected start Friday, around five innings or so. He doesn't need a rehab outing, but still needs to work up his endurance.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxMonday 9/1, 8:18 AM CT
Boston hurler Josh Beckett played catch on Sunday in the Red Sox outfield, and the team thinks he will be able to pitch on Friday, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View: Beckett has been dealing with right elbow inflammation, but is feeling better, and it looks like he will be able to throw again. Despite his relatively disappointing season, he still offers fantasy owners a solid WHIP and good number of strikeouts.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxFriday 8/29, 7:05 PM CT
Josh Beckett has returned to Fenway Park following his visit to Dr. James Andrews in Alabama, and Beckett is relieved to find out that his right elbow is structurally sound and that his battle with inflammation and tingling is a minor issue, according to the Boston Herald.

Our View: Beckett feared he might need Tommy John surgery but after extensive tests, Andrews reassured him he was going to be fine. The Red Sox have him slated to start next Friday against the Rangers. His DL move is retroactive to August 18.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxFriday 8/29, 3:23 PM CT
Red Sox hurler Josh Beckett has been put on the 15-day disabled list with a strained elbow, according to the Providence Journal. Beckett had traveled to see Dr. James Andrews recently, in order to get the tingling sensation in his arm looked at.

Our View: It is not known when Beckett will be back, or the exact severity of the injury, though the team made the disablement retroactive to August 18.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxThursday 8/28, 5:50 PM CT
Here's the latest on the Josh Beckett injury situation according to the Boston Globe. Manager Terry Francona and GM Theo Epstein both said that Beckett hasn't suffered any type of setback with his elbow and the decision to send him to see Dr. Andrews is merely a precaution as the team wants to make sure Beckett is 100% before running him out there again.

Our View: Uh huh. With so much misinformation going on in terms of injury reports, we just don't know what to believe here. What we do know is that Daisuke Matsuzaka will take Beckett's spot in the rotation on Friday to face the White Sox.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxThursday 8/28, 4:35 PM CT
Josh Beckett will not make his scheduled start on Friday and he will be forced to visit with Dr. James Andrews to determine what is going on with his injured elbow, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: Whenever any pitcher goes to see Dr. Andrews for some elbow pain it usually doesn't turn into good news. At this point, counting on a big finish to '08 just isn't a bet you should make with Beckett.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxWednesday 8/27, 8:01 PM CT
Just because Josh Beckett remains on track to pitch on Friday night against the White Sox, it does not mean that his recent bout with elbow inflammation has been put in the rearview mirror, according to the MLB. "We have his long-term interests in mind here," said Red Sox general manager Theo Epstein. "Even though he's scheduled to pitch Friday, that doesn't mean we stop evaluating him on a daily basis and we stop making sure he's fully healthy and ready to pitch. We're going to keep monitoring him day in and day out. If it gets to a point where we don't think it's in his best interest to pitch, then he's not going to pitch."

Our View: The Sox are shooting to insure a spot in the playoffs, but they are not going to push Beckett to get there. If he shows any signs of pain or discomfort at all, they will be taking him off the mound.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxTuesday 8/26, 4:37 PM CT
Josh Beckett threw in the bullpen today with no difficulty, according to the Boston Herald. He remains on track to start Friday against the White Sox. Beckett hasn't pitched since Aug. 17 because of inflammation in his right elbow and numbness in his right arm. "He's ready to go and it's exciting," said manager Terry Francona. "Because he's excited, so are we."

Our View: Beckett owners can all breathe a collective sigh of relief.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxSaturday 8/23, 7:13 PM CT
Josh Beckett is also dealing with inflammation in his right elbow in addition to the numbness in his right arm. The earliest he could return to the rotation is Friday, according to MLB.com. "It's gotten better," Beckett said of the numbness. "We had the one day [Friday] where it kind of came back. That's why we decided to do what we did. It has gotten better. The treatment and stuff is definitely working."

Our View: The Sox say they are being extra cautious, so this doesn't seem like something to be overly concerned about, but obviously you should keep close tabs on it.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxSaturday 8/23, 11:29 AM CT
Josh Beckett, who has been experiencing tingling and numbness in his right arm (and hand), has been pushed back for a second time and is now scheduled to pitch on Friday against the White Sox at Fenway Park, according to the Providence Journal. His side session for Saturday was cancelled and manager Terry Francona said, "We're doing everything in our power to make sure this guy is able to go out and pitch like he can pitch. This gives him another three days of more routine and we can bump his side back to Tuesday. We all feel a little bit better about being overly cautious, but when it comes to somebody's arm, and their future, we need to do it."

Our View: The team does not want to rush Beckett back and risk losing him during the crucial final month of the regular season.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxSaturday 8/23, 8:49 AM CT
Josh Beckett, who has been experiencing tingling and numbness in his right arm, had no complaints after throwing off flat ground to pitching coach John Farrell for approximately 10 minutes Friday afternoon, according to the Boston Globe. He is scheduled to throw a side session today.

Our View: Barring a setback, he is scheduled to start Tuesday against the rival Yankees in the Bronx.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxThursday 8/21, 1:33 PM CT
Josh Beckett is slated to throw a side session Friday, which is expected to give the Red Sox a better idea as to when he can return to the rotation, according to the Boston Herald. Beckett remains scheduled to pitch on Tuesday in New York, though there are hurdles to clear between now and then. Manager Terry Francona said, "The one thing we haven’t done is we haven’t let him throw. If he’s not ready, we won’t pitch him. We’ll just back him up again and I told him that." Beckett added, "There’s no real change. I probably won’t know anything until I throw."

Our View: While Francona indicated that some of the numbness or “tingling” in Beckett’s right hand has subsided, both Francona and Beckett acknowledged the biggest test will come when Beckett attempts to throw. The Sox have ruled out any major problems, saying the ailment was not related to circulatory issues or an aneurysm. One possible source of the problem is the ulnar nerve, the same nerve that runs through the funny bone and can cause a tingling sensation when aggravated.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxWednesday 8/20, 6:24 PM CT
Boston ace Josh Beckett remains on schedule to start for the Red Sox on Tuesday against the Yankees, though manager Terry Francona won't be terribly disappointed if the right-hander gets pushed back again, according to the New York Post.

Our View: Beckett's next start was moved from Saturday to Tuesday after he developed a sore right elbow that created numbness in his hand. Francona described the soreness as a "crick" in the pitcher's elbow that developed when he slept on it overnight. Francona reports Beckett is not likely to throw on the side until Friday though he is "begging" to pitch now.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxTuesday 8/19, 3:58 PM CT
Boston has pushed back the next start for pitcher Josh Beckett, according to the Boston Globe. Instead of pitching on Saturday, he will throw again on Tuesday.

Our View: Beckett has reportedly been experiencing numbness and tingling in his right arm, so the club decided to give him some extra time. Adjust your fantasy lineups accordingly.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxSunday 8/17, 5:34 PM CT
There was plenty of offense going on the American League today, and the Blue Jays joined the party with an impressive 15-4 win over Boston. The Red Sox may have bigger issues, as indicated by the performance of starter Josh Beckett today. Beckett lasted just 2 1/3 innings, allowing eight runs on eight hits with one walk and three strikeouts.

Our View: Beckett falls to 11-9 on the season with a 4.34 ERA. The boys calling the game openly questioned if Beckett may be nursing an unreported injury, noting his motion and technique were well out of form. We will track the situation as we anticipate the Sox are likey to send him for testing. Now is not the time to take chances with such a valuable commodity.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxMonday 8/11, 11:15 PM CT
Josh Beckett simply dominated the White Sox on this night needing just 104 pitches to make it through eight innings in his 11th victory of the year. Beckett allowed a single run, didn't walk a batter, and struck out eight.

Our View: When on as he was on this night, it really matters little who is hitting as the batters have basically no chance of doing anything substantial. After being bombed for seven runs on July 30th, Beckett has allowed just three runs over his last two starts (1.84 ERA).
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxTuesday 8/5, 10:27 PM CT
Josh Beckett ended his three-game losing streak on Tuesday night. He worked 6.2 innings against the Royals and allowed only four hits and two runs. Beckett walked two, struck out seven, and improved to 10-8.

Our View: It's nice to see Josh rebound after a July in which he posted a 5.74 ERA and allowed 41 hits over 31.1 innings. The Red Sox and fantasy teams both need him to be an ace down the stretch.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxTuesday 8/5, 9:28 AM CT
MLB.com reports Boston Red Sox SP Josh Beckett (9-8, 4.15 ERA) will start Tuesday, August 5, against the Kansas City royals.

Our View: Beckett looks to bounce back from his last start in which he gave up 11 hits and seven earned runs to the Angels last week.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxWednesday 7/30, 10:00 PM CT
Boston RHP Josh Beckett suffered through one of his worst outings this season, taking the 9-2 loss against the Angels. Beckett pitched 5 1/3 innings, allowing eight runs (seven earned) on 11 hits with one walk and eight strikeouts.

Our View: Beckett now sits at 9-8 on the season with a 4.15 ERA. He is 2-3 for July, having surrendered a troublesome 20 earned runs over those five starts.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxFriday 7/25, 9:52 PM CT
Josh Beckett went toe-to-toe with Joba Chamberlain and the Yankees but lost 1-0, throwing a solid seven innings, allowing nine hits and one earned runs while striking out six.

Our View: Beckett was good, but Joba was better. Beckett deserved to get a win, but his teammates could not push a run across the board.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxSaturday 7/19, 5:55 PM CT
Josh Beckett completed his first game of the season Saturday. Unfortunately, he also picked up his sixth loss of the season. Becket allowed four runs on nine hits and a walk while striking out six over eight frames in a loss in Anaheim.

Our View: Beckett was undone by a four-run seventh inning, which included a Vlad Guerrero homer and Erick Aybar base-clearing triple.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxWednesday 7/9, 4:08 PM CT
Josh Beckett allowed five runs on eight hits, walked two and struck out two, and the Red Sox defeated the Minnesota Twins 18-5 on Wednesday afternoon.

Our View: Beckett gave up three first-inning runs and then settled down before offering up his final two offerings in the sixth inning. The right-hander wasn't sharp, but he received the run support to battle through five innings of work and earn his ninth win of the season.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxFriday 7/4, 5:47 PM CT
Josh Beckett was in control on the mound in Friday's 6-4 win over the Yankees in the Bronx, as he allowed three earned runs on four hits over six innings, with two walks and four strikeouts.

Our View: Beckett improves to 8-5, with a 3.70 ERA. That was his second win at hostile Yankee Stadium this season.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxMonday 6/23, 9:59 PM CT
Josh Beckett was terrific on Monday, but it wasn't enough. The righty allowed just two runs on five hits and two walks while striking out eight over eight innings, but he was trumped by Dan Haren.

Our View: Beckett was a tough-luck loser tonight, but with 36 wins over the previous two seasons, he has been the beneficiary of good luck in the past.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxMonday 6/23, 3:16 PM CT
Josh Beckett will take the hill tonight when the Red Sox host the Diamondbacks at Fenway Park, according to MLB.com. Beckett is 7-4 with a 3.87 ERA and 1.13 WHIP in 2008, but is 1-3 with a 5.65 ERA in five starts against Arizona.

Our View: His only win against Arizona did come last season as he only allowed two earned runs over eight innings, and he hurled seven scoreless innings in his last start against Cincinnati. Keep him active in your lineups.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxWednesday 6/18, 9:23 AM CT
Due to an off-day on Thursday, the Red Sox will shift around their rotation and push Josh Beckett to Monday, the Boston Globe reports. Tim Wakefield, Daisuke Matsuzaka, and Jon Lester will pitch this weekend. "We talk about building in rest," manager Terry Francona says. "Josh knew all along. He's fine."

Our View: Beckett is now in line to start twice next week, rather than twice this week. It's not big news unless your fantasy league allows daily transactions.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxSunday 6/15, 4:01 PM CT
Josh Beckett received plenty of run support in his first career victory over the Reds, who hit him hard the two times he faced them with Florida. Beckett allowed six hits, walked two and struck out six over seven scoreless innings.

Our View: Beckett won his seventh game against four losses and improved his ERA from 4.22 to 3.87 in the effort.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxTuesday 6/10, 11:56 AM CT
Josh Beckett will make his 12th start of the season tonight against the Orioles at Fenway Park, according to MLB.com. Beckett is 6-4 with a 4.07 ERA and 1.10 WHIP this season.

Our View: Beckett has only allowed five earned runs in his last 19 innings of work, with 24 strikeouts over the span. Keep him active in your rotation against the 31-31 Orioles.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxWednesday 6/4, 11:47 PM CT
Josh Beckett allowed one run in six innings of work, and the Red Sox won their 12th consecutive home game. Beckett issued seven hits, no walks and struck out five in the win.

Our View: Beckett left the game after only 92 pitches spiking internet blogs with rumors of "injury". The 20-game winner slipped on the wet mound and suffered a slight foot sprain. Red Sox manager Terry Francona and assistant trainer Mike Reinold went to the mound and Beckett stayed in the game to finish the six inning, his final frame in the win.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxWednesday 6/4, 8:54 PM CT
Following up on an earlier report, according to the Boston Globe, the Red Sox announced that Josh Beckett is OK. The report noted that the right-hander did not leave the game due to an injury.

Our View: There was some concern that Beckett left the game after 92 pitches because of a leg injury. The fact that the Red Sox rebuked the report is good news for the Red Sox Nation and his fantasy owners.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxWednesday 6/4, 8:40 PM CT
Josh Beckett went six innings in Thursday's night battle with first place Tampa Bay. The right-hander allowed seven hits and one run. He struck out five and walked none -- and left with a 4-1 lead. Manny Delcarmen replaced Beckett in the seventh inning.

Our View: Beckett left after 92 pitches. The 20-game winner was favoring his leg in the sixth inning and his removal might be due to a undisclosed leg injury. More information on Beckett when the information is available.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxFriday 5/30, 11:03 PM CT
Josh Beckett only allowed two runs on four hits over six innings in Friday's 5-2 win over the Orioles, with three walks and 10 strikeouts. He ended the night with a no decision, in a game that went 13 innings. Jacoby Ellsbury notably recorded three stolen bases tonight for Boston as well.

Our View: This was a strong outing for him despite not claiming a win, and he has now racked up 28 strikeouts over his last three starts.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxSunday 5/18, 4:56 PM CT
Josh Beckett picked up his fifth win of the season on Sunday despite allowing six runs in seven innings against the Brewers. Beckett had nine strikeouts but allowed four home runs.

Our View: Beckett has been dogged by home runs in the past, so today's effort was a bit troubling. Through eight starts Beckett owns a 4.67 ERA which speaks to his inconsistent performance thus far.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxTuesday 5/13, 9:34 PM CT
The Red Sox got in hole early and were unable to bring it back, suffering the 5-4 loss to Baltimore. Ace Josh Beckett let the early innings get away, handed a 3-run lead in the first only to watch it fall as he surrendered five runs (all earned) on 11 hits over 5 2/3 innings of work. Beckett walked two, struck out five, but the end result was his third loss of the season.

Our View: Beckett has been a puzzle during these early weeks but seems to have things back on track after consecutive wins to start the month of May, going deep in both with one walk and 13 strikeouts combined. Tonight shows he still has work to do.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxThursday 5/8, 9:11 PM CT
Josh Beckett dominated the vaunted Tigers lineup on Thursday night for seven innings as he held them to one run on six hits and no walks. He also punched out eight batters to improve to 4-2.

Our View: Beckett has allowed more than three earned runs in just one of his last five starts and appears to be in total control of his arsenal once again after battling injury early on.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxSunday 4/27, 4:17 PM CT
In what seems to be a strong day for pitching in the AL, Boston RHP Josh Beckett gave his team every attempt to earn a win over the Tampa Bay Rays, but the offensive support failed to take form and his efforts went to waste as the Sox fell 0-3. Beckett pitched seven innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits, walking just one and racking up an impressive 13 strike outs.

Our View: The 13 strike outs is a career high for Beckett, but Boston's fifth consecutive loss has Beckett frustrated with his second loss of the season.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxThursday 4/24, 12:11 PM CT
Josh Beckett, who is nursing a stiff neck, pitched a successful bullpen session this morning, according to the Boston Globe. He is back on track to start on Sunday against the Rays.

Our View: You can breathe easy again following this news. Beckett holds a 5.12 ERA, but he is still off to a strong start as he racked up 16 strikeouts over 19.1 innings, with a 1.03 WHIP. He is safe to count on for Sunday.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxTuesday 4/22, 3:33 PM CT
Josh Beckett has been pulled from tonight's start against the Angels due to a stiff neck, according to the Boston Globe. David Pauley will start in his place.

Our View: We will keep you posted on the severity of his ailment, and hopefully it isn't related to his previous back injury.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxTuesday 4/22, 7:32 AM CT
Josh Beckett is set to make his fourth start of the season today, against the Angels, according to MLB.com. He is 2-1 with a 5.12 ERA so far this season, and notably hurled a four hit complete game against the Angels in Game 1 of last season's Divisional Series.

Our View: He is off to a favorable start, and should fare well against the Angels today.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxSaturday 4/12, 8:05 PM CT
Josh Beckett allowed three runs over 6.2 innings to pick up his first victory of the season against the Yankees.

Our View: Beckett allowed only five hits on the day while picking up five K, and he appeared to be throwing nice an easy following his bout with injury earlier in the year.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxSaturday 4/12, 11:55 AM CT
Josh Beckett is set for his second start of the season today as Boston battles hated rival New York, according to MLB.com. He gave up five earned runs in his first game back (at Toronto), but could fare better today at home, as he was 9-5 with a 4.17 ERA at Fenway in 2007.

Our View: This should be a great test for the Red Sox ace, as he continues to regain his strength.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxSunday 4/6, 3:30 PM CT
Josh Beckett returned to the mound on Sunday against Toronto, but ended the day with a loss as he surrendered five runs on three hits (one home run) over 4.2 innings of work, with four walks and six strikeouts, as Boston ultimately fell 7-4. He lost, but it was great to see him back in action, and his six strikeouts were very positive. He should continue to get stronger with each start, and his fantasy stock is back on the rise.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxSunday 4/6, 12:29 PM CT
As expected, Josh Beckett will return to the starting rotation today against Toronto, according to ESPN.com. He has been activated off the DL and will battle Roy Halladay. We will post news on his performance following the game.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxSaturday 4/5, 11:26 AM CT
Boston ace Josh Beckett is expected to return from his stint on the DL and make his first start of the season, according to the Providence Journal. Manager Terry Francona told reporters Beckett should be in but will be closely monitored, thus we expect the low pitch count to be in full effect. "We expect he'll give everything he has, but we know he's not going to pitch a complete game," said Francona. Beckett has been struggling with lower back pain and reports of an undisclosed hip injury have also persisted. Also, keep in mind the Red Sox need to make room for Beckett on the roster, so someone will go (rumors indicate RHP David Aardsma is the likely candidate).
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxWednesday 4/2, 12:52 PM CT
Josh Beckett is set to pitch for the Red Sox on Sunday when they battle Roy Halladay and the Blue Jays, according to the Boston Globe. He will be activated from the DL on Thursday.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxTuesday 4/1, 3:08 PM CT
Josh Beckett had another solid day in his bid to return to the starting rotation on Tuesday, according to Boston.com. Beckett showed no signs of the back ailment that held him from starting the season opener in Japan, as he allowed just two hits in five innings while striking out six. The only run off Beckett came on a solo homer from Yahmed Yema, a Single-A outfielder. Beckett threw 64 pitches on the day, 47 went for strikes. Beckett seems close to returning and can be activated from the DL on Thursday.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxSunday 3/30, 8:08 PM CT
Josh Beckett is scheduled to pitch an intrasquad game on Tuesday, according to MLB.com. Beckett will pitch in an intrasquad game on Tuesday morning as he builds his pitch count up to be activated. He continues to do well, and is hopeful he can return on April 6.

When asked if he would be ready to go for the 24th he added,"I don't know. If I'd had as much progress from yesterday to today as I did from the first day to the second day, I wouldn't have ruled that out. Today I'm just holding up my obligation (to talk to media). It probably would have been better to talk to you guys yesterday because I was a little more optimistic. I'm in a pretty crappy mood as far as this thing goes because it was a pretty frustrating day because yesterday was good and today's kind of horse(bleep)." He then said this when asked when he thinks he will pitch again, "We're going to make sure it's completely pain free. I can't even really if laying in one position too long, or sitting in one position too long or standing in one position too long it kind of goes backwards.
