Jim Edmonds, CF, Milwaukee BrewersSaturday 3/13, 9:21 AM CT
Through six Cactus League contests this spring, Jim Edmonds is hitting .429, according to Fox Sports.

Our View: He will certainly make the team, and if he continues to play this well, you almost have to wonder if he will steal a decent number of at-bats from the light-hitting Carlos Gomez. Stay tuned.
Jim Edmonds, CF, Milwaukee BrewersSaturday 1/30, 1:05 PM CT
In preparation for his 2010 comeback, outfielder Jim Edmonds has recently been hitting with former teammate Albert Pujols, according to Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Our View: "I'm through the roof right now," Edmonds said of his current state-of-mind. "Hitting with Albert really helps. I had a good week with him. It's coming back fast." He figures to be Milwaukee's fourth outfielder, and despite being 39, he could see a good amount of time in the field considering his famous defensive ability.
Jim Edmonds, CF, Milwaukee BrewersFriday 1/29, 9:26 AM CT
Jim Edmonds said that Milwaukee told him he'd get a chance to play every day against right-handed starters, according to InsideSTL.com's Tim McKernan.

Our View: Not so fast, Jimmy... first you have to make the roster. If Edmonds indeed looks good in spring training and makes the Brewers' opening day roster, he could potentially be worth a look in NL-only leagues.
Jim Edmonds, CF, Milwaukee BrewersThursday 1/28, 1:57 PM CT
Updating an earlier item, Jim Edmonds has officially agreed to a minor-league contract with the Milwaukee Brewers, according to Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Our View: Jimmy Ballgame will be given a chance this spring training to make the club as a reserve outfielder. Seeing as his main competition is Jody Gerut, he'll likely make the cut unless he has absolutely nothing left in the tank. Stay tuned.
Jim Edmonds, CF, Milwaukee BrewersThursday 1/28, 1:41 PM CT
According to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports, the Milwaukee Brewers are poised to sign former Cardinals and Angels outfielder Jim Edmonds.

Our View: Edmonds announced earlier this month that he wanted to attempt a comeback after sitting out all of 2009, and immediately drew a good deal of interest. Although his first preference appeared to be a reunion with the Cardinals, he will likely gladly settle for getting a chance to beat them 15-or-so times in 2010. The deal is a minor-league one, but it's hard to believe he won't make the club's final roster.
Jim Edmonds, CF, Milwaukee BrewersTuesday 1/26, 8:15 AM CT
Two teams are believed to be in the running for Jim Edmonds, according to the St. Louis Globe-Democrat. The Cardinals are not believed to be one of them.

Our View: Nor are the Yankees. At best, Jimmy Ballgame will probably be a club's fourth outfielder at age 39 in 2010. He won't be even worth pondering in mixed leagues.
Jim Edmonds, CF, Milwaukee BrewersFriday 1/22, 10:42 AM CT
While Jim Edmonds maintains the Cardinals are his first choice for any potential comeback, he says he has "heard" from "three or four" other clubs, including the Yankees, according to the St. Louis Globe-Democrat.

Our View: At age 39, Edmonds is obviously no spry chicken, but with a career .296 average against right-handers, he could be a potentially dangerous power bat off of the bench. Expect more than one team to be willing to give him a legitimate chance to make the majors in 2010.
Jim Edmonds, CF, Milwaukee BrewersWednesday 1/20, 12:43 PM CT
Jim Edmonds's agent has stated that it's "better than 50-50" that Edmonds signs somewhere in the next week, according to Sports Illustrated's Jon Heyman.

Our View: Agents' words should always be taken with a grain of salt, though Edmonds could make for a decent add by a team in need of a left-handed bat off the bench. He hit 19 home runs in just 250 at-bats with the Cubs in 2008 and has always been crafty with his glove.
Jim Edmonds, CF, Milwaukee BrewersMonday 1/18, 8:52 AM CT
At a charity event on Sunday night, Jim Edmonds said that he'd like to come back to the MLB this upcoming season and play for the Cardinals, according to MLB.com.

Our View: The Cardinals could use a backup center fielder and left-handed bat off the bench, though Edmonds is 39 years old and a year removed from the game. Even if he does return, he'll clearly be void of any fantasy value.
Jim Edmonds, CF, Milwaukee BrewersTuesday 2/17, 9:20 AM CT
Jim Edmonds remains unsigned and has garnered virtually no interest from MLB clubs, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports. An undisclosed general manager said, "I do not think he is done."

Our View: The 38-year-old crushed 20 homers last season with a .343 OBP. He is 18 homers away from 400, but it remains to be seen if he will get a chance to reach the milestone.
Jim Edmonds, CF, Milwaukee BrewersFriday 1/9, 9:16 AM CT
Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports indicates that Jim Edmonds is on the Orioles' radar as a potential candidate at first base.

Our View: Edmonds surprisingly blasted 20 homers last season but was helped by the winds at Wrigley Field, and his power numbers could take a hit while playing his home games at Camden Yards.
Jim Edmonds, CF, Milwaukee BrewersTuesday 11/25, 10:41 PM CT
The Cubs are said to be not to interested in bringing back the 38-year old Jim Edmonds, according to the AP.

Our View: Edmonds was a huge surprise for the Cubs last year, after picking him up off of waivers. The veteran hit 20 home runs in 111 games and drive in 55 runs.
Jim Edmonds, CF, Milwaukee BrewersThursday 11/20, 7:34 AM CT
38-year-old outfielder Jim Edmonds could be an option for the Phillies if Pat Burrell departs, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Our View: Edmonds can still hit for power as he blasted 20 homers over 111 games last season, 19 coming with the Cubs on 250 at-bats. He would likely be willing to sign a one-year deal, which would fare well for the Phillies. Edmonds would likely play center, Shane Victorino could go back to right field to utilize his great throwing arm, and Jayson Werth could roam in left. Edmonds is aging, but did win eight Gold Gloves over his career.
Jim Edmonds, CF, Milwaukee BrewersSaturday 11/1, 1:35 PM CT
Jim Edmonds recently discussed retirement, but the latest report has him hoping to play next season. "He's definitely coming back," agent Paul Cohen said. "The way he finished up, why wouldn't he?"

Our View: After being released by the Padres early in the season, Edmonds hit .256 for the Cubs, with a .369 on-base percentage, a .568 slugging percentage and 19 homers in 250 at-bats.
Jim Edmonds, CF, Milwaukee BrewersSunday 10/5, 10:31 AM CT
Jim Edmonds is considering retirement, the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Our View: Edmonds dug himself out of a slow start with the Padres by hitting .256-19-49 in 85 games with the Cubs after signing. There will certainly be some teams interested in his services for 2009 if he decides to return.
Jim Edmonds, CF, Milwaukee BrewersThursday 9/18, 5:25 PM CT
Jim Edmonds has been in and out of the lineup in the month of September but was in the batting order today. He awarded the Cubs with a 2-for-4 day at the plate and added his 10th home run of the year in the Cubs 7-6 win over the Brewers.

Our View: Edmonds hit his 19th home run today but was later ejected in the 11th inning after arguing balls and strikes. The center fielder has been a shot in the arm for the Cubs but his inconsistent playing time has made him useless for fantasy owners.
Jim Edmonds, CF, Milwaukee BrewersSaturday 9/6, 6:58 PM CT
Jim Edmonds was given the night off on Saturday and Reed Johnson started in his place.

Our View: Edmonds is batting .189 in his last 14 games, prompting Piniella to give him a day off. Johnson is hitting .303 this season and with the Cubs struggling right now, he has a chance to earn a more consistent role on this offense.
Jim Edmonds, CF, Milwaukee BrewersFriday 8/8, 4:56 PM CT
Jim Edmonds went deep twice on Friday for the Cubs in their 11 inning victory over the Cardinals, 3-2.

Our View: Edmonds is up to 15 home runs and 44 RBI after being left for dead by the Padres with 14 of those home runs and 38 of his RBI coming with the Cubs in just 56 games. Believe it or not, Edmonds is once again relevant in all mixed leagues.
Jim Edmonds, CF, Milwaukee BrewersMonday 8/4, 4:42 PM CT
Cubs outfielder Jim Edmonds has an outstanding match-up tonight against Houston pitcher Brian Moehler. Edmonds his hitting .351 (13-for-37) for his career against the righty, with four doubles and six home runs.

Our View: Surely Cubs manager Lou Piniella knows this and Edmonds will be playing. If you have him on your fantasy squad, be sure to get him in your lineup.
Jim Edmonds, CF, Milwaukee BrewersThursday 7/31, 4:15 PM CT
Cubs outfielder Jim Edmonds went 2-for-3 with two home runs and five RBI in Chicago's 11-4 win in Milwaukee. One of his home runs was a grand slam.

Our View: Edmonds missed the last three games with a sore left knee, but he returned to help the Cubs sweep Milwaukee. He remains an iffy fantasy performer, but from time-to-time he can still make things happen.
Jim Edmonds, CF, Milwaukee BrewersWednesday 7/30, 10:23 AM CT
Jim Edmonds was held out of Tuesday's lineup, despite indicating he was ready to return to action, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. He has been nursing a sore left knee.

Our View: The team trainer thought another day of rest would do him good. Another reason Edmonds was held out is the fact that he is a .204 career hitter against Ben Sheets (with 18 strikeouts), who was the opposing hurler for Milwaukee.
Jim Edmonds, CF, Milwaukee BrewersFriday 7/25, 8:16 AM CT
Jim Edmonds has reported improvement in his sore left knee, and skipper Lou Piniella expects him back in action over the weekend, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

Our View: Edmonds, who had a precautionary MRI exam on the surgically repaired knee Thursday, was forced to leave Tuesday's game when the pain flared up late in the contest.
Jim Edmonds, CF, Milwaukee BrewersWednesday 7/23, 8:42 PM CT
Jim Edmonds aggravated an old injury to his left knee and as a result he was unavailable to play on Wednesday, according to MLB.com. He will have an MRI on Thursday to make sure the injury isn't serious.

Our View: Edmonds has been pretty healthy since joining the Cubs, but we all know that he is more than accustomed to spending some time on the shelf. The good news for the Cubs is that Alfonso Soriano was back in action on Wednesday to help fill the loss of Edmonds' bat.
Jim Edmonds, CF, Milwaukee BrewersWednesday 7/16, 11:00 PM CT
Jim Edmonds was married to his long time girlfriend on Tuesday, according to the Chicago Tribune. Always the classy guy, Edmonds got married wearing a t-shirt and jeans.

Our View: Edmonds is hitting only .206 in July, but he has still managed to work the count enough to post a .357 OBP. In 44 games since joining the Cubs, Edmonds is batting .269 with nine home runs and 29 RBI as well as a .922 OPS.
Jim Edmonds, CF, Milwaukee BrewersSaturday 7/12, 4:38 PM CT
The offensive charge for the Chicago northsiders in today's 8-7, 11-inning win over San Francisco was led by outfielder Jim Edmonds , going 2-for-4 at the dish with his 10th double and 10th home run of the season, totaling four RBIs and two runs scored on the day.

Our View: Edmonds has struggled at the plate thus far in July, hitting just .194 on the month (disappointing after hitting .319 last month). His RBIs, six this month, have come in clusters with four today and two on July 2nd.
Jim Edmonds, CF, Milwaukee BrewersMonday 7/7, 8:35 AM CT
Jim Edmonds will receive an X-ray on his thumb after jamming it while sliding into home plate on Saturday, according to the Daily Herald.

Our View: The team is optimistic he will be fine. He was hot in June, but is only 1-for-10 in his last three games in July.
Jim Edmonds, CF, Milwaukee BrewersThursday 7/3, 12:22 AM CT
Veteran outfielder Jim Edmonds got the offense going in the right direction this evening, claiming a tough 6-5 win over the Giants. Edmonds went 2-for-3 at the dish with two walks and his ninth homer of the season, totaling two RBIs and two runs scored on the night.

Our View: Edmonds has come on over the last month, hitting .319 with six homers and 19 RBIs for the month of June. Looks like he's enjoying the ride and wants to keep it going through July.
Jim Edmonds, CF, Milwaukee BrewersWednesday 6/25, 10:18 PM CT
Jim Edmonds continued his remarkable resurgence on Wednesday night when he went deep for the fourth time in four games for the Cubs.

Our View: In 90 AB for the Padres Edmonds hit .178 with one home run while he is hitting .305 with six home runs in 82 AB for the Cubs. If he's available on waivers in your mixed league now would be a great time to add him to you squad as he has been known to go on prolonged stretches of mashing the ball.
Jim Edmonds, CF, Milwaukee BrewersWednesday 6/25, 12:38 PM CT
Jim Edmonds hit his sixth home run of the season at Wrigley Field on Tuesday. On the season, Edmonds is hitting .343 at Wrigley. He has 14 RBI, five home runs and a triple in 35 at-bats in the friendly confines.

Our View: Apparently the change of scenery, from San Diego to Chicago, was exactly what Edmonds needed. If you own him, keep sitting him against lefties, as he is hitting just .154 against south-paws.
Jim Edmonds, CF, Milwaukee BrewersSaturday 6/21, 2:07 PM CT
Jim Edmonds, who had been slowed by soreness in his left foot, returned to the Cubs' starting lineup today in center field, according to MLB.com.

Our View: He bounced back with a vengeance Saturday, as he hit two home runs in the same inning against the White Sox at Wrigley Field, and became the third member of the Cubs to accomplish the feat.
Jim Edmonds, CF, Milwaukee BrewersFriday 6/20, 9:07 AM CT
Jim Edmonds, who is nursing a sore left foot, believes he will be ready to return to the field on Saturday, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

Our View: He is the left-handed bat in the outfield platoon with Reed Johnson, but is only hitting .231 this season.
Jim Edmonds, CF, Milwaukee BrewersThursday 6/19, 1:59 PM CT
Jim Edmonds is listed as day-to-day with a case of plantar fascitis in his left foot, according to the AP. Edmonds said, "It’s been bothering me a couple days on the turf. My arch is sore."

Our View: He was starting to see more action with Alfonso Soriano on the shelf, but the aging Edmonds is having a hard time staying intact.
Jim Edmonds, CF, Milwaukee BrewersMonday 6/16, 5:01 PM CT
Jim Edmonds and his Chicago teammates had their Hall of Fame Game with the Padres cancelled due to rain, according to the Associated Press. “I think all the anticipation of having a rough day of travel in the middle of the season— it’s all worth it once you get here," Edmonds said.

Our View: This was to be the last HOF Game as MLB has decided to stop playing the exhibition game even though it has taken place each year since 1940. Hopefully MLB will change its mind as a whole lot of fans are angry with the decision and have begun to protest the decision.
Jim Edmonds, CF, Milwaukee BrewersThursday 6/12, 6:27 PM CT
Jim Edmonds hit a sacrifice fly in the seventh inning and then hit a home run in the ninth inning to send the game into extra innings for the Cubs.

Our View: Believe it or not, Edmonds has actually resembled a major league hitter in June as he is hitting .321 with eight RBI in nine games on the month.
Jim Edmonds, CF, Milwaukee BrewersSunday 6/1, 5:34 PM CT
Jim Edmonds has found a new home, and in the unlikely colors of blue. Edmonds, tripled and drove in two runs as the Chicago Cubs beat the injury riddled Colorado Rockies 5-3 on Sunday to complete a perfect seven-game homestand. Since arriving in Chicago Edmonds has hit .300 with one home run and 5 RBI, and he's accomplished this in 11 games.

Our View: Edmonds has earned the everyday role as the Cubs center fielder, and at the expense of a productive Reed Johnson who was picked off the wire from Toronto in early May.
Jim Edmonds, CF, Milwaukee BrewersFriday 5/30, 4:36 PM CT
Jim Edmonds enjoyed his best outing as a member of the Cubs on Friday, as he went 3-for-4 with three RBI in an exciting 10-9 win over Colorado. He hit a solo homer in the game, which his first with the Cubs as well.

Our View: He has enough left in the tank to enjoy outings like today from time to time, but he will remain inconsistent and cannot be considered for your fantasy lineups.
Jim Edmonds, CF, Milwaukee BrewersSaturday 5/17, 11:57 AM CT
Jim Edmonds is going to platoon with Reed Johnson in center field, according to MLB.com. Edmonds is going to get starts against right-handed hurlers, and Johnson is expected to start against lefties.

Our View: The aging vet will be given plenty of opportunities to succeed and generate favorable numbers in Chicago, but it remains to be seen if he has enough left in the tank.
Jim Edmonds, CF, Milwaukee BrewersThursday 5/15, 4:00 PM CT
Jim Edmonds went 1-for-4 and left seven men on base in his Cubs' debut on Thursday, in a 4-0 win over the Brewers.

Our View: The Cubs' hitters put him in position to rack up several RBI today, but he failed to come through with a single one. He also struck out once. He will be given an opportunity to succeed and generate favorable numbers in Chicago, like today, but it remains to be seen if he has enough left in the tank.
Jim Edmonds, CF, Milwaukee BrewersThursday 5/15, 12:49 PM CT
Jim Edmonds will make his Cubs' debut against Greg Maddux and the Padres today, according to the Chicago Tribune. Edmonds will start in center field and bat sixth in the lineup.

Our View: The game is in Chicago, and he will have a good chance to generate RBI with Aramis Ramirez and Kosuke Fukudome batting ahead of him in the order. His power numbers could also get a boost while playing in the hitter-friendly confines of Wrigley Field.
Jim Edmonds, CF, Milwaukee BrewersWednesday 5/14, 4:49 PM CT
Following up on a previous report, Jim Edmonds will in fact join the Cubs after passing a physical. Cubs general manager Jim Hendry told the media before Wednesday night's game that Edmonds was on his way to Chicago and must pass a physical before he can join the team, this according to the AP.

Our View: Edmonds still has very little fantasy value. His skill-set has diminished and he will have a backup role with the Cubs.
Jim Edmonds, CF, Milwaukee BrewersTuesday 5/13, 8:19 AM CT
As previously reported, the Cubs will pursue Jim Edmonds when he clears waivers on Wednesday, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. The Cubs are looking for a left-handed hitter and still believe Edmonds has a little left in the tank after being released by San Diego.

Our View: Felix Pie would likely get sent to Triple-A Iowa, who entered Monday with a .222 average and strikeouts in one-third of his at-bats. Edmonds (lefty-hitting) would platoon with Reed Johnson (righty-hitting) in center field. Edmonds was only hitting .178 (with only one homer) over 90 at-bats this season with San Diego, but could benefit from a change of scenery in Chicago, and his power numbers would likely improve by playing his home games at Wrigley Field.
Jim Edmonds, CF, Milwaukee BrewersMonday 5/12, 7:48 AM CT
The Cubs are believed to be interested in acquiring recently released San Diego outfielder Jim Edmonds, according to FanNation.com. Lou Piniella is said to be looking for another left-handed batter to go with Kosuke Fukudome, and Felix Pie has been disappointing.

Our View: Signing Edmonds would potentially send Pie down to Triple-A Iowa to get some much needed practice and playing time. Edmonds was only hitting .178 (with only one homer) over 90 at-bats this season with San Diego, but could benefit from a change of scenery in Chicago, and his power numbers would likely improve by playing his home games at Wrigley Field.
Jim Edmonds, CF, Milwaukee BrewersFriday 5/9, 3:43 PM CT
Jim Edmonds has been released by the Padres, according to the AP. The team recalled outfielder Jody Gerut from Triple-A Portland to cover the open spot on the roster.

Our View: This was to be expected, as Edmonds only hit .178 over 90 at-bats this season, with 24 strikeouts. He only recorded one home run as well.
Jim Edmonds, CF, Milwaukee BrewersThursday 5/1, 7:44 PM CT
Jim Edmonds entered Thursday on an 0-for-23 dry spell, and as a result he has been relegated to the 7th hole in the batting order, according to MLB.com. "I don't think it [moving him down in the batting order] takes any pressure off a guy like Jim Edmonds," manager Bud Black said. He wants to do everything he can to help the team win."

Our View: Edmonds just isn't the same hitter that he used to be, that fact is painfully obvious. He can still pop the occasional long ball, but in truth, he is nothing more than a depth play in NL Only leagues at this point.
Jim Edmonds, CF, Milwaukee BrewersMonday 4/21, 10:37 PM CT
Jim Edmonds hit his first home run of the season on Monday night, his only hit in three AB. Adrian Gonzalez also went deep for the Padres.

Our View: Edmonds has been pretty awful to start the year hitting .212 with one HR in 52 AB, but honestly, we are unsure just how much he has left beyond what we have seen thus far given the fact that his body has been so beaten up for years.
Jim Edmonds, CF, Milwaukee BrewersSaturday 4/5, 2:43 PM CT
The San Diego Padres have activated CF Jim Edmonds from the 15-day disabled list, according to MLB.com. Edmonds, acquired via trade with St. Louis during the offseason, was in today's starting lineup against the Dodgers, batting fifth in the lineup. To get Edmonds on the active roster, the Padres optioned OF Jody Gerut to Triple-A Portland.
Jim Edmonds, CF, Milwaukee BrewersMonday 3/31, 10:04 PM CT
According to MLB.com, Jim Edmonds on the disabled list, said that he wouldn't unnecessarily push himself to get back quicker from the strained right calf injury he suffered on March 6. Three days later, and after taking Friday and Sunday as a day of rest, Edmonds told the San Diego media would come off the disabled list and rejoin the Padres when he's eligible on April 5.
Jim Edmonds, CF, Milwaukee BrewersFriday 3/28, 6:13 PM CT
The Padres placed Jim Edmonds on the DL Friday, retroactive to March 21. The outfielder is dealing with a strained calf. He had been hoping to be ready for opening day, so it seems like there would be a good chance he's activated when eligible on April 5. Scott Hairston will start in center field while Edmonds is out.
Jim Edmonds, CF, Milwaukee BrewersWednesday 3/26, 2:11 PM CT
Jim Edmonds still thinks he could be ready for opening day. He will test his strained right calf in minor league games over the coming days. "It's getting better. I've been running and doing everything," Edmonds tells MLB.com. "I know I'm going to try and get in as many [Minor League] games as I can in the next five days and get as many at-bats as I can." Fantasy owners should not count on the veteran early in the season, if at all this year.
Jim Edmonds, CF, Milwaukee BrewersMonday 3/24, 7:53 PM CT
Jim Edmonds will likely begin the year on the DL, this according to MLB.com. Edmonds has only been able to make his way to the plate for six at-bats because of his injury calf, and he is nowhere near ready to jump into the lineup. As a result, Jody Gerut and Paul McAnulty likely will make the squad with Gerut looking like the starter in left field.
Jim Edmonds, CF, Milwaukee BrewersFriday 3/21, 10:26 AM CT
Jim Edmonds tested his strained right calf with a "basic" run Thursday. When he might return to the lineup could be determined this morning when the Padres medical staff further evaluates him. "It was very basic, but I felt good," said Edmonds in the San Diego Union-Tribune. "I can't feel optimistic yet, but I'm hoping I'll be ready for opening day." GM Kevin Towers said he thinks that Edmonds is still a ways from being in a game. He added that while the outfielder could begin the year on the DL, though the move could be retroactive and force him to miss only five games.
Jim Edmonds, CF, Milwaukee BrewersFriday 3/7, 9:45 PM CT
The strained calf Jim Edmonds sustained during Thursday's game will result in the Padres' center fielder missing at least two to three weeks, if not longer, this according to MLB.com. Scott Hairston figures to get plenty of looks in center field while Edmonds is sidelined.
Jim Edmonds, CF, Milwaukee BrewersFriday 3/7, 2:12 PM CT
The strained calf Jim Edmonds sustained during Thursday's game is serious enough that the Padres sent him to get an MRI on Friday, according to SportsTicker. "I worry that it’s worse than it appears," Padres manager Bud Black said Friday morning. "But you don’t know. We don’t know much as of right now." This doesn't sound too promising, but we should have a better idea of his status once the MRI results are released.
Jim Edmonds, CF, Milwaukee BrewersFriday 3/7, 9:56 AM CT
Padres manager Bud Black said that Jim Edmonds will skip at least two games due to the calf injury that forced him out of Thursday's contest, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. With his history of injuries, it may actually be a while longer before we see Edmonds back in the mix.
Jim Edmonds, CF, Milwaukee BrewersThursday 3/6, 4:48 PM CT
Jim Edmonds injured his calf on Thursday , this according to the AP. At this point all we know is that Edmonds was removed after one inning of action, but given his history of injuries, this is certainly a terrible start to the 2008 season for the former all-star.
Jim Edmonds, CF, Milwaukee BrewersMonday 2/25, 8:16 PM CT
Jim Edmonds spent the off-season trying to get his body in shape after what was a difficult 2007 season in which he had only 365 AB and 12 HR. "When you're down in the 50s and 60s, percentage wise, it's not much fun; I am hoping this winter catapults me into a good season," said Edmonds, according to MLB.com. After hitting at least 28 HR in 6-straight seasons, Edmonds has produced just 31 HR the past two years during which time he has also hit just .255, so don't draft Edmonds as anything more than a fifth OF this season.
Jim Edmonds, CF, Milwaukee BrewersFriday 12/14, 11:28 PM CT
The Padres acquired Jim Edmonds from the Cardinals Friday night in exchange for third base prospect David Freese, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. In addition, San Diego will receive at least $1 million of the $8 million owed to Edmonds in 2008. Edmonds hit .252 with 12 homers in 365 at-bats last year, and he'll start in center field for the Padres, replacing the departed Mike Cameron. His production has dipped in recent years, partly due to injury, but a move to PETCO Park won't help him rebound offensively.
Jim Edmonds, CF, Milwaukee BrewersSaturday 9/29, 8:05 AM CT
Jim Edmonds is expected to start Sunday's season finale. "He said he's good to go," manager Tony La Russa told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Edmonds, who has been slowed by a groin injury, will be available as a pinch-hitter on Saturday.
Jim Edmonds, CF, Milwaukee BrewersTuesday 9/25, 11:58 AM CT
Jim Edmonds shagged fly balls and ran more before Monday's game than he's been able to lately, but he was held out of the lineup again. Edmonds is dealing with a groin injury, but trainer Barry Weinberg said a sports hernia has been ruled out. He hasn't started in over a week, but Edmonds could be back in the lineup shortly, possibly at a corner outfield spot. "If that is a way to keep him healthier," manager Tony La Russa said in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. "That will be one thought."
Jim Edmonds, CF, Milwaukee BrewersSaturday 9/22, 12:36 AM CT
Jim Edmonds underwent an MRI exam Friday for persistent groin pain and was scheduled to visit with Dr. George Paletta, the team physician, later in the day, according to the AP. Manager Tony La Russa said it was too soon to say whether Edmonds, who missed his fourth straight start, would be shut down. More should be known about Edmonds' status over the weekend.
Jim Edmonds, CF, Milwaukee BrewersWednesday 9/19, 6:22 AM CT
Jim Edmonds was held out of Tuesday's game due to his sore groin, the AP reports. He probably wouldn't have started anyway against Cole Hamels, though it's worth noting that Edmonds didn't enter the game at any point even as the clubs played 14 innings.
Jim Edmonds, CF, Milwaukee BrewersSunday 8/19, 8:10 AM CT
Jim Edmonds was held out of the lineup on Saturday due to a pinched nerve. He said the nerve sent pain shooting down his legs last week and that the soreness "comes and goes," according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. This doesn't sound serious, but it could be something he deals with the rest of the season.
Jim Edmonds, CF, Milwaukee BrewersThursday 7/19, 8:38 PM CT
The Cardinals activated Jim Edmonds from the disabled list prior to Thursday's game. Edmonds had missed the previous 26 games with a pinched nerve in his lower back. He was hitting just .238 before being sidelined by the injury.
Jim Edmonds, CF, Milwaukee BrewersWednesday 7/18, 2:44 AM CT
Jim Edmonds passed a team conditioning test Tuesday, the AP reports. He's also told Tony La Russa that he's ready to play after sitting out the last month with a sore back.
Jim Edmonds, CF, Milwaukee BrewersTuesday 7/17, 11:02 AM CT
Jim Edmonds believes he's ready to come off the DL. Now he has to prove it. Edmonds has to pass a "conditioning test" before being activated, manager Tony La Russa tells the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. He has been out due to a pinched nerve in his lower back.
Jim Edmonds, CF, Milwaukee BrewersThursday 7/12, 5:19 PM CT
Jim Edmonds is close enough to returning that he will be accompanying the team on its 10-game road trip to start the second half. Edmonds has been on the DL since June 16 with a pinched nerve in his lower back, according to the AP. The Cards had anticipated Edmonds returning later in the month, but the timetable was moved up after the outfielder went through a successful workout on Wednesday.
