Kevin Mench, LF, Wednesday 12/24, 9:00 AM CT
Kevin Mench has inked a one-year deal to head to Japan, according to the Associated Press. He will be making US$1.8 million and playing for the Hanshin Tigers.

Our View: Mench struggled with Toronto in 2008, only appearing in 51 games with the club. He hit .243 with 10 RBI in 115 at-bats and failed to hit a home run.
Kevin Mench, LF, Tuesday 12/2, 7:45 AM CT
Kevin Mench is reportedly close to inking a one-year deal for $2 million with the Hanshin Tigers in Japan, according to the NPB Tracker.

Our View: He is expected to push Lew Ford for the starting gig in right field for Hanshin, and bat fifth or sixth in the lineup. He was designated for assignment by the Toronto Blue Jays back in late October and spent most of the season in the minors.
Kevin Mench, LF, Friday 10/24, 4:39 PM CT
Kevin Mench has been designated for assignment to make room for Friday's signing of Adam Loewen, according to the AP.

Our View: Mench spent most of the year in the minors this season, playing in just 51 games for the Blue Jays.
Kevin Mench, LF, Tuesday 9/2, 1:39 PM CT
Kevin Mench has been recalled from Triple-A Syracuse, according to the AP.

Our View: He batted .235 with nine RBI for Toronto this season, and failed to provide any power with zero homers. The Jays' outfield is healthy again, meaning Mench shouldn't see much action in the final month of the season.
Kevin Mench, LF, Monday 8/25, 1:42 PM CT
Kevin Mench has been optioned to Triple-A Syracuse, according to the AP. The Blue Jays will fill Mench’s roster spot prior to Tuesday’s game at Tampa Bay.

Our View: Mench failed to provide any power as he failed to hit a homer over 98 at-bats this season, and only batted .235 overall.
Kevin Mench, LF, Sunday 8/10, 11:22 AM CT
Kevin Mench has been optioned to Triple-A Syracuse, according to TSN. The Jays activated Vernon Wells from the DL, and felt the barely used Mench was expendable to make room on the roster.

Our View: Mench failed to hit any home runs over 86 at-bats this season, and maintained a poor .233 batting average. He held no fantasy value prior to his demotion.
Kevin Mench, LF, Tuesday 8/5, 8:58 PM CT
Kevin Mench delivered a game-winning single in the bottom of the ninth inning on Tuesday night. It was his only hit of the game.

Our View: The veteran outfielder gets to play the part of hero for one night. Mench doesn't play very often and doesn't have fantasy value.
Kevin Mench, LF, Friday 7/11, 3:49 PM CT
Kevin Mench has been recalled from Triple-A Syracuse, according to the Globe and Mail.

Our View: Vernon Wells is expected to miss at least a month of action due to his Grade 2 strain of his left hamstring, and Mench was added for depth in the outfield. He will likely see some starts against left-handed pitching, but only hit .210 over 62 at-bats this season, and is not worth targeting in anything but larger AL-only leagues.
Kevin Mench, LF, Saturday 6/21, 9:58 PM CT
The Blue Jays optioned Kevin Mench to Triple-A Syracuse Saturday. The outfielder hit just .217 in 60 at-bats. Reliever Brandon League was recalled to replace him on the roster.

Our View: Mench's specialty is hitting lefties, but he managed just a .225 clip against them.
Kevin Mench, LF, Wednesday 5/28, 12:15 AM CT
Toronto outfielder Kevin Mench was one of very few Jays hitting the ball this evening as his team fell 3-1 in a pitcher's duel. Mench went 2-for-4 with the team's lone RBI, his first of the season.

Our View: Mench is now hitting a horrific .192 on the season, hitting just 5-for-26 since returning on May 9th.
Kevin Mench, LF, Friday 5/16, 7:46 PM CT
Kevin Mench was removed from the Blue Jays game on Friday night after running into the outfield wall, according to The Sports Network. Mench was replaced by Shannon Stewart after injuring himself on the leaping catch.

Our View: Mench gave it his all on the play, and that type of effort is what the Jays are looking for. We will update you when we hear how he is doing, but Stewart would figure to be the prime beneficiary with one less bat to share at-bats with in teh Jays outfield if Mench is out long-term.
Kevin Mench, LF, Saturday 5/10, 3:49 PM CT
Newly acquired outfielders Kevin Mench and Brad Wilkerson could see more action with Vernon Wells on the shelf for six to eight weeks due to his broken wrist.

Our View: Both hitters are good against left-handed pitching, and they can both play on the same days, if one is used as the DH. It remains to be seen which will see more action, and Manager John Gibbons will likely go with the hot bat. Also of note, Alex Rios could move into Wells' spot in center field, and Mench and Wilkerson could work in right field.
Kevin Mench, LF, Friday 5/9, 5:29 PM CT
Kevin Mench , who was acquired for cash from the Texas Rangers today, is in the Jays starting lineup Friday night against the Indians.

Our View: Mench is the designated hitter and he's hitting fifth in the batting order.
Kevin Mench, LF, Friday 5/9, 3:17 PM CT
Kevin Mench has landed in Toronto, according to Fox Sports. He was acquired for cash from the Texas Rangers.

Our View: Mench, who was with the Rangers' Triple-A affiliate in Oklahoma, hit .267 with eight homers and 37 RBI in 2007 while a member of the Brewers. He is a liability defensively, but will provide the Jays with an extra bat off the bench.
Kevin Mench, LF, Saturday 4/26, 11:23 PM CT
Kevin Mench hit his second home run of the season for Triple-A Oklahoma on Saturday.

Our View: That’s great, but he is hitting only .217-2-11 in 69 at-bats for Oklahoma. Mench has always been a liability defensively, and he is certainly not showing that he deserves to be in Texas right now.
Kevin Mench, LF, Tuesday 3/25, 8:30 PM CT
Kevin Mench has been optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma by the Rangers, according to the Dallas Morning News. He failed to beat out Jason Botts for the final spot on their 25-man roster, so he'll bide his time in the minors and hope for a shot with the Rangers later on.
Kevin Mench, LF, Wednesday 3/12, 7:18 PM CT
Kevin Mench appears to be the favorite to land the final bench spot for the Rangers, according to MLB.com. He will take ground balls at first base next week in an effort to increase his versatility. If Milton Bradley's knee doesn't allow him to be ready by opening day, it's possible Mench could be in the lineup against Seattle lefty Erik Bedard.
Kevin Mench, LF, Wednesday 2/27, 7:30 PM CT
Kevin Mench went 2-for-4 with a run and RBI on Wednesday for the Rangers. Mench was signed two weeks ago to battle for a backup spot in the OF with the Rangers, and today he started to make a statement that he hopes will result in his name being on the opening day roster. Mench can still be a useful major league hitter, though his days of being a full-time starter appear over. Consider drafting him in AL Only leagues.
Kevin Mench, LF, Tuesday 2/12, 7:07 PM CT
Kevin Mench agreed to a minor league deal with the Texas Rangers on Tuesday afternoon. According to the Dallas Morning News he'll fight for a backup outfielder's spot along with David Murphy, Nelson Cruz and Jason Botts. Mench, 30, hit .267 for Milwaukee last year with a .746 OPS and eight homers in 101 games. He had fallen out of favor in Milwaukee and had not been able to land a major league deal this winter. But it is worth noting that Mench had consecutive 25-homer seasons while with the Rangers. Mench has agreed to start the season at Triple-A Oklahoma if he does not make the major league roster. He would be able to request his relase if not in the majors by June 1.
Kevin Mench, LF, Sunday 2/10, 8:51 AM CT
Kevin Mench and the Texas Rangers are discussing bringing the former Rangers OF back to Texas, but the club wants to make sure that if they bring him back, he is willing to accept a demotion to Triple-A if he doesn't make the big league club out of spring training. The team is set with starters in the OF in Marlon Byrd, Josh Hamilton and Milton Bradley (when healthy), so Mench would have to battle for one of the backup spots with David Murphy, Jason Botts and Nelson Cruz to make the team. Kevin Mench, LF, Saturday 2/2, 8:34 AM CT
The Rangers are considering brining Kevin Mench to training camp as a non-roster invitee, according to the Dallas Morning News. He could battle with Jason Botts and Nelson Cruz to be a right-handed-hitting backup outfielder. Mench hit .267 with eight homers in 288 at-bats for the Brewers last season after the Rangers dealt him to Milwaukee during the 2006 campaign.
Kevin Mench, LF, Monday 12/10, 10:49 AM CT
The Brewers designated Kevin Mench for assignment on Monday. The team made the move to create space on the roster for Salomon Torres, who was acquired from Pittsburgh last week. Mench hit .267 with eight homers in 288 at-bats in 2007, and he could catch on somewhere to play in a platoon role next year.
Kevin Mench, LF, Friday 12/7, 11:26 AM CT
The Brewers unsuccessfully tried to deal Kevin Mench during the Winter Meetings. If they're unable to trade him prior to the Dec. 12 deadline for offering contracts, Mench could be non-tendered, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. The team wants to either find a left fielder or find a third baseman and move Ryan Braun to left field. Either way, it doesn't appear that Mench is in their plans for next season.
Kevin Mench, LF, Tuesday 12/12, 2:00 AM CT
The Brewers are expected to tender a contract to Kevin Mench, essentially so they can continue to shop him around, the team's official site reports.
Kevin Mench, LF, Tuesday 12/5, 12:13 PM CT
Teams have showed a surprising amount of interest in trading for Kevin Mench, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. The Orioles and Philles are reportedly two of the teams talking to the Brewers about a deal.
Kevin Mench, LF, Friday 7/28, 9:50 PM CT
Manager Ned Yost said that Kevin Mench, who was acquired in a trade Friday, will start in left field on a semi-regular basis, according to the AP. Corey Hart started in left field Friday.
Kevin Mench, LF, Friday 7/28, 11:00 AM CT
The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reports that the deal sending Carlos Lee to Texas is final. Kevin Mench goes to Milwaukee and should be the starting left fielder for the Brewers and get slightly more consistent playing time than he was getting in Texas.
Kevin Mench, LF, Tuesday 7/25, 9:42 AM CT
Kevin Mench was moved up to fifth in the batting order on Monday, the first time he'd batted that high since June 9, according to the Dallas Morning News. He went 1-for-3 with a walk. Prior to Monday's game, Mench had hits in 13 of his last 26 at-bats.
