Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersSaturday 11/7, 11:28 AM CT
Manny Ramirez has exercised his $20 million, 2010 player option, making his return to the Dodgers next season official, according to MLB.com.

Our View: The Dodgers knew this was coming, but were probably holding out a sliver of hope he wouldn't. Manny hit .290 with 19 home runs and 63 RBI in 104 games in 2009.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersFriday 11/6, 6:38 PM CT
Manny Ramirez is expected to return to the Dodgers in 2010, according to Dylan Hernandez's (Los Angeles Times) twitter page.

Our View: The news came from Manny's agent Scott Boras. The elite outfielder holds a $20MM option, and will apparently exercise it.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersTuesday 10/20, 3:01 PM CT
Manny Ramirez was not in the Dodgers dugout during Jonathon Broxton's ninth inning meltdown in game three of the NLCS on Monday night, according to Bart Hubbuch of the New York Post. He said he was showering after he was pulled in the ninth inning for defensive purposes.

Our View: Just once maybe, Manny should try not being Manny. Way to go, Manny.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersSunday 10/18, 10:54 PM CT
Manny Ramirez had two of the three hits for the Dodgers on Sunday in their 11-0 loss to the Phillies in Game 3 of the NLCS.

Our View: The Dodgers couldn't do anything again Phillie starter Cliff Lee tonight, but Manny's two hits at least gives the team something to look forward to in Game 4. If Manny can get going at the dish, the Dodgers could very well rebound after this devastating loss.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersTuesday 10/13, 10:55 PM CT
Skipper Joe Torre is not anticipating an extension after his contract expires with the Dodgers, according to the Associated Press. He said, "I have one year on my contract and I do not anticipate it being more than that."

Our View: Torre has led the Dodgers to back-to-back NL West titles, and his 83 postseason wins are the most in MLB history. The Dodgers should try to convince him to stay longer after his contract runs out after the 2010 campaign.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersSaturday 10/10, 8:20 PM CT
Manny Ramirez went 3-for-5 with two RBI in tonight's 5-1 win in Game 3 of the NLDS at St. Louis. He hit two doubles and a single.

Our View: Ramirez helped lead the Dodgers to a sweep over the Cardinals, and batted .308 with two RBI in the series. The Dodgers will face either the Rockies or Phillies in the NLCS.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersMonday 9/28, 4:04 PM CT
Manny Ramirez sat out today's game against the Pirates to rest a sore left hamstring, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: Ramirez was available to pinch-hit, and his ailment is not believed to be serious. The Dodgers lost 11-1 today, and their magic number remains at one.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersThursday 9/10, 12:16 AM CT
Manny Ramirez went 2-for-3 with his 18th home run on Wednesday, but the fading Dodgers lost 4-3 late to a Diamondbacks club playing spoiler.

Our View: Manny has exhibited some power this month after his quiet August (just four home runs in 29 games), batting .250 with three home runs and five RBI.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersMonday 9/7, 6:41 PM CT
Manny Ramirez went 1-for-2 with a solo homer off Max Scherzer in Monday's 7-2 win at Arizona.

Our View: Ramirez was having a good game until being ejected for throwing his bat and helmet to the ground near home plate after striking out to end the third inning. His homer was his 17th of 2009.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersSaturday 8/29, 6:45 PM CT
Manny Ramirez finally had a good game on Saturday, going 1-for-3 with a two-run first inning home run in the Dodgers' 11-4 win over the Reds.

Our View: Manny still has only three August home runs, and just eight since returning from his suspension, however, and isn't a great bet to rely on for power down the stretch.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersFriday 8/28, 9:22 PM CT
Manny Ramirez capped off a 1-for-5 night on Friday, and killed a two-run ninth inning Dodgers rally, by striking out looking with the bases loaded in a 4-2 game in Cincinnati.

Our View: There's just no way around it - Manny hasn't been the same player since his 50-game suspension for using a banned substance earlier this season. Since returning to the Dodgers lineup on July 3rd, he has just 7 home runs and 26 RBI in 48 games, including just two home runs since July 22nd.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersWednesday 8/12, 12:11 AM CT
Manny Ramirez paced the Dodgers to a 9-1 victory over the Giants on Tuesday night, going 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBI.

Our View: The home run was only Manny's second since July 22, and he has driven in runs in only two games since that day.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersSunday 8/9, 8:24 PM CT
Manny Ramirez was productive in Sunday's 8-2 loss to the Braves at Dodger Stadium, as he went 3-for-4 with a run scored. He hit a double and two singles.

Our View: Ramirez tied his season-high for 2009 with three hits in a game, the last time coming July 12 at Milwaukee. He is hitting .281 with one homer and four RBI over 32 at-bats this month.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersTuesday 8/4, 11:45 AM CT
Dodgers manager Joe Torre says Manny Ramirez's recent struggles are not the lingering result of his left hand getting hit by a pitch on July 21, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Manny's lone RBI since then came on a pinch-hit grand slam the next day. He has seen his average drop from .343 to .306 over that span, as well. Manny may finally be beginning to resemble the 37-year-old hitter he is, and not the apparent prolific steroid user he has been alleged to be for much of this decade.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersThursday 7/30, 11:27 AM CT
In another bit of bad news for Manny Ramirez, it has been revealed he was one of the 103 players who failed Major League Baseball's testing for performance-enhancing drugs in 2003, according to The New York Times.

Our View: So it now appears that Manny was indeed using steroids long before 2009. Manny apparently wasn't Manny during those Boston glory years without some chemical help. Just sad.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersSunday 7/26, 8:32 PM CT
Manny Ramirez rested his sore hand on Sunday, according to MLB.com.

Our View: You may remember that Manny was hit on the hand by a pitch last Tuesday. After the late end to the Dodgers game Saturday night, and with a day game Sunday, manager Joe Torre just thought it would be best to rest the healing slugger. He will start tomorrow night in St. Louis.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersThursday 7/23, 12:04 AM CT
Manny Ramirez didn't start Wednesday night, but delivered the Dodgers biggest hit, a sixth inning, pinch hit grand slam off of Reds reliever Nick Masset. It would be the difference, as the Dodgers won 6-2 at home.

Our View: Manny hasn't missed a beat since returning from his 50-game suspension, and looks like he'll be carrying the Dodgers deep into the playoffs again in 2009.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersWednesday 7/22, 8:23 PM CT
Manny Ramirez will sit at out on Wednesday night after being hit in the hand with a Homer Bailey pitch on Tuesday, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: X-rays on the hand came back negative, and Manny is sitting out solely for precautionary reasons. The Dodgers are off on Thursday, so he will get two full days of rest this way. It is very likely he will be back in the lineup on Friday.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersWednesday 7/22, 2:26 PM CT
According to the LA Times, the X-rays on Manny Ramirez's hand came back negative.

Our View: Manny was plunked by a Homer Bailey fastball in Tuesday's game and was forced to leave in the third inning. Fantasy owners can exhale now though, as no bones were broken. He'll likely be a little sore and is listed as day-to-day. No word yet on if he'll be in Wednesday's starting lineup, but don't be surprised if he gets a day off. Juan Pierre would fill in if Manny can't go.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersTuesday 7/21, 10:43 PM CT
Manny Ramirez left the Dodgers game on Tuesday in the third inning after being hit by a pitch on his left arm by Reds starter Homer Bailey, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: There has been no word on his condition yet. Stay tuned for updates.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersThursday 7/9, 9:49 PM CT
Manny Ramirez led the Dodgers in tonight's 11-2 win at the Mets, as he went 2-for-2 with two RBI and two runs scored. Both of his knocks were singles.

Our View: Ramirez has an RBI in three straight games, with six total RBI over the span. He continues to hit well after returning from his lengthy suspension.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersWednesday 7/8, 9:52 PM CT
Manny Ramirez hit a ninth inning home run off of Francisco Rodriguez to bring the Dodgers within one of the Mets on Wednesday night, but went just 1-for-5 overall as the Amazins outlasted L.A. 5-4.

Our View: Manny is picking up right where he left off before his suspension for using a women's fertility drug, and is safe to put in your starting lineup every day from here on out.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersTuesday 7/7, 9:55 PM CT
Manny Ramirez went 2-for-4 with three RBIs as the Dodgers hammered the Mets on Tuesday, but also struck out twice and got ejected.

Our View: So far, so good for post-suspension Manny, but he has seemed more noticeably irritable since returning. Hopefully for his owners he hasn't lost his carefree attitude, as it has always seemed to be the glue of his game.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersSaturday 7/4, 6:42 PM CT
Manny Ramirez hit his first post-suspension home run on Saturday, his seventh of the season, but it wasn't enough as the Padres beat the Dodgers 7-4 in San Diego.

Our View: Manny didn't take long to re-assert his place in the Dodgers lineup, and Saturday's bomb was likely the first of many more as he looks to rehabilitate his image and lead the Dodgers to their first World Series win since 1988.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersSaturday 7/4, 12:36 AM CT
Manny Ramirez was 0-for-3 with a walk in his return to the lineup on Friday night.

Our View: Just Manny being Manny being ineffective at the plate. He's a one man circus, but he a helluva hitter. Keep him in your lineup as he's bound to get hot in the near future.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersFriday 7/3, 8:12 AM CT
The Dodgers will activate outfielder Manny Ramirez before Friday's game against the Padres. Ramirez has finished serving his 50-game suspension for a positive banned substance test.

Our View: No word from the Dodgers' yet as to whether or not Manny will be in the lineup, but it seems like a pretty safe bet that he will be. Fantasy owners should have been prepared for this, but if you didn't you should activate Manny and get him in tonight.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersTuesday 6/30, 8:04 AM CT
Manny Ramirez went 1-for-3 for Class-A Inland Empire on Monday in his final rehab game before he is eligible to return from his 50-game suspension for using a banned substance on July 3, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: Manny was supposed to play one final game for Inland Empire on Tuesday at 11 a.m., but the Dodgers decided there was no need to push him further and have him play a day game after a night game. Despite the rehab assignment, he could still be a little rusty on Friday when he returns, and you could be well-served to sit him a few games before reinserting him into your starting lineup.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersSaturday 6/27, 9:16 PM CT
Dodgers manager Joe Torre said that he does not expect Manny Ramirez to be in top hitting form right out of the gates upon returning to L.A.'s lineup on Thursday, according to MLB.com. "Personally, I think it will take a week or so to get his feet on the ground," Torre said. "And part of that will be the circus. I know he's blocked out that stuff in the past, but he's never had anything like this. This will be different, a different scenario."

Our View: Take the words for what they're worth, as their nothing more than speculation, though Torre has proven that he just kind of knows his stuff when it comes to baseball over his multi-decade managing career. Given that he'll only get a half week of games in anyways, it'd be best to keep Manny out of your active lineup next week and wait until you have a few games to go off of before deciding whether or not to play him the following week.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersSaturday 6/27, 10:20 AM CT
According to the LA Times, circus superstar Manny Ramirez went 0-for-3 with a walk in two games with the Dodgers' Triple-A affiliate.

Our View: Now Manny will get to be Manny in Single-A ball for four games before rejoining the Dodgers. His eventual return will bump recent offensive catalyst Juan Pierre from the starting lineup.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersThursday 6/25, 1:53 PM CT
According to the LA Daily News, the plan for Manny Ramirez is for him to play seven innings on Thursday night for Triple-A Albuquerque, then travel back to California to play four games with Single-A Inland Empire before returning to the Dodgers on July 3.

Our View: Manny will have several more games in the minors to get his feet under him before rejoining the Dodgers, but it looks almost certain that he will be in the lineup on July 3 when he is eligible to return. Manny owners should be prepared to activate and start him on that day.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersWednesday 6/24, 7:56 AM CT
Manny Ramirez went 0-for-2 in his first rehab game with Triple-A Albuquerque on Tuesday, according to Yahoo! Sports.

Our View: Manny refused to answer any questions about his suspension or steroid use as well on Tuesday, simply responding with "whatever happened is in the past," when asked about it. "I'm just getting myself ready to come back." He is eligible to rejoin the Dodgers on July 3.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersFriday 6/19, 8:13 AM CT
Manny Ramirez will start his minor league rehab assignment this Tuesday in Triple-A Albuquerque, according to ESPN.

Our View: He will then proceed onto Single-A Inland Empire on June 27. Manny being Manny again is now only weeks away.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersWednesday 6/17, 10:04 PM CT
Manny Ramirez will start his minor league rehab assignment next week. He will appear next Thursday for Single-A Inland Empire. He will likely play three games for them and is eligible for re-instatement on July 3.

Our View: Is anyone else excited to see what Manny will do against Single-A pitching? Too bad those numbers will not apply to fantasy stats. It remains to be seen how the Dodgers will utilize Juan Pierre once Ramirez returns.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersWednesday 6/10, 3:53 PM CT
Major League Baseball has warned the Los Angeles Dodgers over Manny Ramirez's presence in the clubhouse yesterday according to the Los Angeles Times.

Our View: Manny visited the team before yesterday's game against the Padres, but suspended players are not allowed in the clubhouse before games. The Dodgers have not been penalized. Manny pledged to take the Dodgers to "another level" when he returns during the visit.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersWednesday 6/10, 10:42 AM CT
Dodgers slugger Manny Ramirez made his first public comments on Tuesday since being suspended for 50 games on May 7 for violating the league's anti-drug policy according to the Los Angeles Times.

Our View: Manny used the typical vagaries most players do when describing their steroid incidents, saying it was "in the past" and that he wanted to "move on." But he also said he wanted to make his suspension up to the fans by taking his game and the Dodgers season to "another level." A scary thought for the rest of the NL West, and a very comforting one to Manny's fantasy owners. Maybe he'll be making his suspension up to them as well.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersWednesday 6/3, 10:41 AM CT
According to the LA Times, Manny Ramirez has looked very impressive in private workouts during his suspension.

Our View: An unnamed source reports that, "He looks incredible. The best I've ever seen him." Ramirez has reportedly been laughing and joking around, so he's apparently over the strain and malaise of getting caught cheating. As long as he hits when he returns fantasy owners will likely view the situation with a closer's memory.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersMonday 5/25, 10:28 PM CT
The AP reports that Manny Ramirez worked out at Dodger Stadium on Monday for the first time since his 50-game suspension was handed out. The rest of his teammates were in Denver for a series with the Rockies.

Our View: The Dodgers have gone 10-7 and scored 100 runs without Manny in the lineup. He is eligible to return on July 3 and should immediately reclaim his starting job in left field.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersFriday 5/15, 1:55 PM CT
Manny Ramirez, who is serving a 50-game suspension, met with his teammates and the Dodgers' staff today, according to the Sports Network.

Our View: Details regarding his positive test were not revealed, but Ramirez stated it was not steroids-related and resulted from a prescription that included a substance (HCG) on the MLB's banned list.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersTuesday 5/12, 10:50 AM CT
The Los Angeles Times is reporting that Manny Ramirez had planned to appeal his 50 game suspension, but quickly dropped the appeal when he learned that Major League Baseball had obtained his medical records. He had been prescribed HCG by a private doctor.

Our View: Manny is saying that he was using this drug to enhance his performance. Not on the field, but apparently in the bedroom. Either way, he is out for 50 games and he knew he was doing something wrong since he dropped his appeal so quickly.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersSunday 5/10, 11:42 PM CT
The Associated Press reports that Manny Ramirez met with Dodgers owner Frank McCourt over the weekend. McCourt said that the suspended slugger apologized and the owner encouraged Manny to meet with his teammates in order to do the same with them.

Our View: This is really the least that Manny could do. He has virtually disappeared since the day that the suspension was handed down. We agree with McCourt. Ramirez needs to stand before his teammates and acknowledge how ignorant he was and how miserable he is.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersThursday 5/7, 2:06 PM CT
Manny Ramirez claims that the illegal substance (human chorionic gonadotropin) he used was to enhance his sex drive and not to get an edge on the diamond, according to Yahoo Sports.

Our View: Ramirez does not intend to appeal his 50-game suspension. But his rep will not be tarnished if the substance was not a performance-enhancing steroid used for the field.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersThursday 5/7, 1:13 PM CT
Updating an earlier report, Manny Ramirez has issued a statement of apology after being dealt a 50-game suspension for testing positive for performance-enhancing drugs, according to the Los Angeles Daily News. Ramirez said, "I want to apologize to Mr. McCourt, Mrs. McCourt, Mr. Joe Torre, my teammates, the Dodger organization, and to the Dodger fans. LA is a special place to me and I know everybody is disappointed. So am I. I am sorry about this whole situation."

Our View: Ramirez is yet another star that has tarnished his rep. The Dodgers currently hold the best record in the majors at 21-8 and are a perfect 13-0 at home - but will be hard-pressed to keep it up without their star outfielder, who was hitting .348 with six homers and 20 RBI.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersThursday 5/7, 10:55 AM CT
Manny Ramirez is facing a 50-game suspension for testing positive for performance-enhancing drugs, according to the LA Times.

Our View: The suspension is expected to be announced today. According to agent Scott Boras, the performance-enhancing drugs were prescribed by a doctor for health reasons. Either way, a positive test is a positive test. Xavier Paul is also expected to be recalled from the minors to provide depth in the outfield. This is a very tough loss for the Dodgers and fantasy owners.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersFriday 5/1, 12:23 AM CT
Manny Ramirez was 2-for-3 with a home run, a walk, a double, two runs scored, and an RBI as the Dodgers defeated the Padres 8-5 on Thursday.

Our View: Manny has not dominated the headlines as he did last season in his stint with the Dodgers, but he is still producing at a pretty impressive rate. He has already drawn 20 walks against 14 strikeouts while hitting .372/.500/.654. He would probably log more RBI if he hit lower in the lineup, but that's probably not going to happen and he's producing at a pretty sweet clip as it is.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersWednesday 4/29, 1:11 AM CT
Manny Ramirez was seeing doubles on Tuesday. He was 3-for-3 with three doubles, a pair of runs scored and a pair of walks in Tuesday's 5-3 win over the rival Giants.

Our View: Manny is now hitting .366 on the season and has drawn 18 walks already. His power numbers are lower than expected right now, but they will spike quickly as soon as teams realize they can't pitch around him to get to Andre Ethier. His emergence will help Manny owners immensely.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersSunday 4/26, 12:10 PM CT
Manager Joe Torre will rest outfielder Manny Ramirez, shortstop Rafael Furcal, and third baseman Casey Blake on Sunday. Juan Pierre, Blake DeWitt, and Juan Castro are all getting starts, the Los Angeles Daily News notes.

Our View: It's just a day off for these veterans. The Dodgers lineup will look a little weaker, but we still don't advocate using Rockies starter Jason Marquis.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersFriday 4/24, 12:06 AM CT
Manny Ramirez was 2-for-4 with an RBI on Thursday in the Dodgers' 2-0 win over the Astros.

Our View: Manny has been very Manny-like lately after getting off to a slow start this season. He's now hitting .345 with four homers and 12 RBI. His four bombs also came in a span of four games and he's on one of those patented Manny hot streaks.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersWednesday 4/22, 11:08 PM CT
Manny Ramirez hit his fourth home run in his last four games as the Dodgers fell 6-5 to the Astros on Wednesday. The solo shot was his only hit in four at bats.

Our View: Ramirez has 11 hits and seven RBI in his last five games. He had a fairly quiet start, but that was back when pitchers were still willing to walk him to face Andre Ethier. Now that Ethier seems to have established himself as a threat, Ramirez is seeing more strikes.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersTuesday 4/21, 11:28 PM CT
Manny Ramirez went 2-for-4 with a home run, three RBI, two runs scored, a strikeout and a walk as the Dodgers fell to the Astros 8-5 on Tuesday.

Our View: Ramirez has been relatively quiet following all the noise he made after joining the Dodgers last season. Still he is hitting .340/.500/.596 which is pretty spectacular. Expect all his other numbers to catch up and he should remain among the game's elite sluggers.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersSaturday 4/18, 7:43 PM CT
Dodger fans can breath easy. Manny Ramirez has finally homered, and he wasn't done after one. Baseball's most bizarre superstar hit two over the wall in LA's 9-5 win over the Rockies on Saturday.

Our View: Before today Manny had zero home runs and only three extra-base hits on the season, but it's amazing what one good day at the plate will do for a ball player. This may be the point in the season when Manny turns it up to 11.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersMonday 4/13, 6:44 PM CT
Manny Ramirez went 1-for-2 with two walks, a double, and a run scored in Monday's 11-1 win over the Giants.

Our View: Ramirez has yet to hit his first home run, but he already has 11 walks on the season. Opposing pitchers clearly recall the damage he produced last season in a Dodgers uniform and the slugger has not seen much to work with to this point in the season. He is hitting .304 through eight games.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersSunday 4/12, 11:22 PM CT
The USA Today reports that Manny Ramirez would like to play in Cleveland again before his career ends. "I would like to play for Cleveland one more time, to go back where I started," said Ramirez. "I have so many good memories there, why not? I think to go back where you started is everyone's dream."

Our View: The Indians currently have little use for Manny as their outfield is both young and talented, and they have plenty of options at DH. Either way, expect Cleveland to come up as a possible destination for the slugger the next time he enters free agency. He spent the first 10 seasons of his career with the Indians.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersThursday 4/9, 12:20 AM CT
Manny Ramirez was 2-for-4 with a walk, a run scored and three RBI Wednesday in the Dodgers 5-2 win over the Padres.

Our View: Manny driving in runs in a Dodger uniform. It's like last year all over again. Get used to it people. He'll be doing this all year... unless of course he gets tired of LA.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersSaturday 3/28, 6:02 PM CT
Manny Ramirez went 2-for-3 in the Dodgers 6-1 spring training loss to the Chicago White Sox.

Our View: All he's doing now is hitting .533 during the spring, and he has gone five for his last six. Ramirez did not play in the field during the game, giving his hamstrings a rest as the DH.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersFriday 3/27, 7:06 PM CT
Manny Ramirez was 3-for-3 with three singles on Friday. He's now hitting .500 in limited action this spring.

Our View: The biggest news here is that Manny played left field. The fact that he isn't DHing means that his bum hammy is recovering, and he can truly start tuning up for the regular season. He remains a top fantasy outfielder.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersWednesday 3/25, 7:12 PM CT
Manny Ramirez played outfield on Wednesday for the Dodgers and said that his ailing hamstring is doing well, according to MLB.com.

Our View: This is good news for the Dodgers slugger who now needs to get focused at the plate and back on track. His offense is what fantasy fans care about and hopefully he can put his leg problems behind him the rest of the spring.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersWednesday 3/25, 12:18 AM CT
Outfielder Manny Ramirez went 1-for-2 with a solo homer in Tuesday's game against the Mariners. It was his first home run of spring training. He has been sidelined by a sore hamstring, but Ramirez is slated to play the field on Wednesday.

Our View: It's good to see Manny finally back in the lineup. We're hoping his hamstring will hold up as he tries to play a string of games this week.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersTuesday 3/24, 8:09 PM CT
Outfielder Manny Ramirez may be able to field his position as soon as Wednesday, the Los Angeles Daily News reports. He has been dealing with a sore hamstring.

Our View: We'll believe it when we see it. Manny has little incentive to push himself through this injury right now.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersSaturday 3/21, 2:19 PM CT
Skipper Joe Torre indicated that Manny Ramirez (hamstring) could return to the Dodgers' lineup as early as Monday as a DH, according to the LA Times.

Our View: Ramirez is expected to be ready for opening day, and the club is just being cautious to insure that his hamstring ailment fully heals.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersTuesday 3/17, 12:58 PM CT
Manny Ramirez noted that he is going to try to do some running in the pool today as he recovers from a hamstring ailment, according to the LA Daily News.

Our View: He is being patient and taking his recovery day-by-day. The Dodgers will remain cautious with Ramirez, and will continue to hold him out until his ailment completely heals.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersMonday 3/16, 7:37 PM CT
MLB.com reports that Manny Ramirez will be held out of action for at least another week. He pulled his hamstring in Sunday's exhibition, his first work in the outfield this spring.

Our View: Ramirez was able to take batting practice and play catch on Monday, but running is out of the question for the time being. Expect the Dodgers to be extra cautious with the outfielder, as he probably does not need to take part in several exhibitions in order to hit during the regular season.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersFriday 3/13, 12:38 PM CT
According to MLB.com, Manny Ramirez is penciled in as the DH in Friday's contest and will hit third in the lineup. It will be his first spring action since signing a contract with the Dodgers.

Our View: It's nice to see Manny is going to get some at-bats, but he shouldn't need many to get ready for Opening Day. He seems to have an obvious on-off switch and can play at the highest level when he feels like it. As long as he's happy, he'll rake.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersThursday 3/12, 2:16 PM CT
Updating an earlier report, Manny Ramirez has been scratched from today's game against the Korean National Team, according to the LA Daily News. He will try to face the Rangers on Friday.

Our View: Manny is a hitting machine and likely won't need a ton of at-bats to get in the groove anyway, so pay this speed bump no mind if he is back whacking pitches around the yard in a day or two.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersThursday 3/12, 9:18 AM CT
Manny Ramirez is set for his spring debut with the Dodgers today when they play the Korean National Team, according to MLB.com. Ramirez said, "I am body sore because everybody else is ahead of me. I worked out a lot in Florida, but you have to get used to wearing spikes again. I have to get my running legs in shape. I am Dave Roberts, you know? I am going to be stealing bases this year. Oh, yeah."

Our View: He may start at DH rather than left field to work him back in slowly. Skipper Joe Torre noted that he would likely get three at-bats if working in the DH role, and two at-bats if used in the outfield.

The AP reports that Manny Ramirez and the Dodgers have officially agreed on a two-year, $45 million deal. The second year has an opt-out clause for Ramirez and he will be protected from trades.

Our View: This was essentially the same offer that was put on the table in November, and we suddenly feel like we have wasted a huge amount of effort to get to the same place we started from. Three and a half months and 100 or so notes from then until now and nothing changed. With the ability to opt out after the season, Manny is playing for a contract once agin in 2009. He will once again be among the best hitters in the game and all of the Dodgers will benefit from his presence in the lineup.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersWednesday 3/4, 10:03 AM CT
Manny Ramirez has reportedly agreed to a two-year deal with the Dodgers worth $45MM, according to the LA Times. The deal includes an opt-out clause after the first year, and has no-trade protection.

Our View: The story has now been pulled from the LA Times website, but Yahoo Sports is also running the news that Manny agreed to the deal. If true, Ramirez would be worth drafting as a top-15 fantasy outfielder, assuming he will play up to the high expectations of the lucrative contract.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersTuesday 3/3, 9:52 PM CT
Manny Ramirez's four-month long negotiations with the Dodgers may have come to an end, with reports that the two sides have finally agreed upon a two-year, $45 million deal, although agent Scott Boras has denied that a deal has been made official, according to ESPN.

Our View: Though it appears the contract drama is still not quite over, it does seem like Manny will re-sign with the Dodgers sooner rather than later. While he will turn 37 at the end of May, Manny is still one of the most feared hitters in the game and will provide excellent value, aside from speed, to any fantasy squad. His return would decrease the value of both Juan Pierre and Andre Ethier, and possibly Matt Kemp a bit as well, as there will be only two everyday spots for the three players.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersSunday 3/1, 3:26 PM CT
The Dodgers have decided to withdraw their two-year, $45 million offer from negotiations with Manny Ramirez, and owner Frank McCourt says the two parties must now start from scratch, according to the Associated Press. "We're in what I call a transition phase," McCourt said. "We had an almost four-month negotiation which terminated on Thursday. Now we're in a quiet period. At some point we'll pick up negotiations, but with a fresh start."

Our View: The one impasse the two sides can't conquer is how the millions will be paid out. The Dodgers want to defer $25 million that will be paid out between 2011-13, while agent Scott Boras has requested that his client receive payments without deferment.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersThursday 2/26, 11:00 PM CT
MLB.com issued a press release late Thursday evening reporting Manny Ramirez's agent, Scott Boras, sent a letter to the Dodgers rejecting the team's latest contract offer, which is believed to be $45 million for two years. Dodgers owner Frank McCourt responded by taking a subtle shot at Boras. "We love Manny Ramirez," McCourt said. "And we want Manny back, but we feel we are negotiating against ourselves. When his agent finds those 'serious offers' from other clubs, we'll be happy to re-start the negotiations."

Our View: Apparently Ramirez has no problem with holding out for more money, even if it means he'll miss at least a portion of spring training while his market continues to get drier and drier.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersThursday 2/26, 2:01 PM CT
The LA Daily News reports that Manny Ramirez and the Dodgers could be closing in on a two-year $45 million deal.

Our View: Ramirez would get $25MM in 2009 with a player option in 2010 for $20 million. Ramirez may be ready to give up on getting a four-year deal.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersWednesday 2/25, 8:21 PM CT
The Los Angeles Daily News reports that the Dodgers have once again offered a two-year, $45 million contract to Manny Ramirez. The second year of the deal is a player option, meaning he could elect to become a free agent at the end of the first season.

Our View: This same offered was made back in December, but Ramirez and his agent, Scott Boras, never signed it and the Dodgers withdrew it. Ramirez is believed to still be holding out for a four-year deal. There are no other offers out there, so Manny may decide to accept this.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersMonday 2/23, 6:59 PM CT
CBSSports.com reports that Giants GM Brian Sabean remarked that Manny Ramirez talks are on the back burner.

Our View: The Giants were quick to move on Edgar Renteria and Jeremy Affeldt earlier this offseason, but almost no progress was made with Ramirez. Perhaps they were only trying to create a market for the slugger who seems destined to re-sign with the rival Dodgers.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersSaturday 2/21, 8:16 PM CT
The Los Angeles Daily News reports that talks have "picked up" between Manny Ramirez and the Dodgers.

Our View: At this point, Ramirez seems destined to play for the Dodgers this season. No word on the length of the deal at this point.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersThursday 2/19, 7:20 AM CT
Giants' outfielder Dave Roberts endorses Manny Ramirez, according to the SF Chronicle. Roberts won a World Series title with Ramirez with Boston in 2004, and Roberts said, "He was a great teammate. Just look at the back of his baseball card. I think that h is a guy who'll come to play. He is real jovial. I think it was unfortunate the way things ended for him in Boston because he had a pretty good run over there."

Our View: Roberts would slip further down the Giants' depth chart if the Giants sign Ramirez. As of now, the Giants are not believed to be close to signing Ramirez.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersTuesday 2/17, 8:19 AM CT
Giants' president Larry Baer did not meet with Manny Ramirez and his agent Scott Boras in San Francisco as was speculated, according to the SF Chronicle.

Our View: The Dodgers and Boras continue to talk about Ramirez, while the Giants wait to see what happens. Ramirez still wants at least a three-year deal.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersSaturday 2/14, 9:21 AM CT
Skipper Joe Torre believes Manny Ramirez will play for the Dodgers this season, according to the LA Times. Torre said, "I definitely would be very surprised if he is not a Dodger. I am just saying that because that is the way I want it to be."

Our View: GM Ned Colletti noted that talks with Ramirez regarding a deal are moving forward. The future Hall of Famer wants at least a three-year contract.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersThursday 2/12, 6:34 PM CT
Manny Ramirez postponed a promotional appearance with DirecTV in Florida. The company put out a release saying that Ramirez could be signing a new contract at any time, according to the LA Times.

Our View: The Dodgers might be bending a bit on their original stance that they would not give Ramirez a long-term deal. Ramirez is looking for at least a three-year contract.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersThursday 2/12, 3:34 PM CT
Jon Heyman of Sports Illustrated stated that there is belief that Dodgers' owner Frank McCourt may bend and offer Manny Ramirez a three-year deal.

Our View: The Dodgers' options for an outfielder became more scarce with Bobby Abreu (Angels) and Adam Dunn (Nationals) both finding new homes. Ramirez had a positive impact on ticket sales when he joined the Dodgers last season, and that could factor into McCourt's decision.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersWednesday 2/11, 7:34 PM CT
The Associated Press has reported that the MLBPA will not open a training camp for unsigned free agents. They did open a camp after the strike in 1995, but they have decided that it won't be necessary this year.

Our View: Many of the big name free agents have started to fall into place, so the number of free agents should decrease even more as the opening of spring training looms.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersWednesday 2/11, 10:11 AM CT
Last season with Boston, Manny Ramirez shoved 64-year-old traveling secretary Jack McCormick to the ground, and according to a new, authorized biography about Ramirez, he did so because he felt disrespected, reports the Boston Herald. The book quotes Manny's former agent Gene Mato as saying, "Jack disrespected Manny for many years and on many occasions."

Our View: Ramirez's wife also states that McCormick had a habit of insulting Ramirez in front of his teammates. That incident was likely the beginning of the end in Beantown for Ramirez, who remains unsigned.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersTuesday 2/10, 6:16 PM CT
According to the New York Post, Dodgers owner Frank McCourt is still very optimistic his team will sign free-agent outfielder Manny Ramirez. "Well, hopefully we are going to sign him soon," McCourt told the "Hot Stove" program, which runs on MLB Network. "That is certainly our intention. You know Manny had a tremendous impact on L.A. and made great contributions to our run at the end of last season. I mean that love affair was tremendous."

Our View: With the beginning of the regular season only weeks away, the Dodgers may be Ramirez's lone logical choice. The Giants have shown interest but will not pay him the huge dollars, while big-market teams like the Mets and Yankees have said they are done making deals and are content with the personnel that is in place.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersMonday 2/9, 11:01 AM CT
Peter Gammons of ESPN states that the Giants "may well be seriously considering constructing a three-year package" for Manny Ramirez.

Our View: Agent Scott Boras has been pressuring the Dodgers to the point that the club stated they will not draft any of his clients in June. Ramirez is holding out for a four-year deal, but would be wise to accept a three-year offer if proposed by the Giants.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersSaturday 2/7, 6:50 PM CT
MLB.com reports that Giants' GM Brian Sabean maintains that if the Giants were to land Manny Ramirez that it would be a short term deal for far less money than the free-agent outfielder is asking.

Our View: This seems to indicate that San Francisco is a long shot to land Manny, but they are among the only teams still discussing him. Manny said earlier in the day that he is holding out for a four-year deal.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersSaturday 2/7, 5:38 PM CT
The Los Angeles Times reports that Manny Ramirez is still hoping to get a four-year deal. He also said in the interview that he wants to play six more seasons and hopefully record his 3,000th hit and 700th home run.

Our View: Should Ramirez achieve those milestones, he could garner some serious consideration as one of the best players to ever play the game. Of course, his questionable personality will likely knock him down a few ranks, but statistically he would rank with the best.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersFriday 2/6, 10:03 AM CT
The Angels are not interested in reeling in Manny Ramirez, according to Jayson Stark of ESPN. GM Tony Reagins said, "I can make this very brief and very clear. We are not in on Manny, and will not be."

Our View: The Rangers have crossed Ramirez off their list as well. The Dodgers and Giants are believed to be the only interested suitors as of now.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersThursday 2/5, 10:56 PM CT
Manny Ramirez has been offered a contract from the Brazos Valley Bombers of the Texas Collegiate League, according to the SportsTicker.

Our View: You have to love the sense of humor by minor league organizations. The TCL does not offer players a salary but does offer the players the opportunity to live with a host family. Now that would be funny.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersWednesday 2/4, 8:43 AM CT
Agent Scott Boras stated that the Dodgers will resume talks with Manny Ramirez today, according to ESPN. Ramirez rejected the Dodgers' latest one-year offer for $25 million.

Our View: GM Ned Colletti indicated that the Dodgers do not have a deadline with Ramirez, but added that does not mean they won't have one. The Dodgers are not expected to give in with a long-term deal.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersWednesday 2/4, 8:14 AM CT
Manny Ramirez is not going to land with the Mets, according to the NY Post.

Our View: The Mets have made it clear that they are finished making major moves after re-signing lefty hurler Oliver Perez. Ramirez may be forced to sign with the Dodgers if he wants to play in 2009, as he currently does not have any other real offers.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersTuesday 2/3, 7:37 PM CT
The Washington Nationals and general manager Jim Bowden said that they are not interested in signing Manny Ramirez, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Manny turned down a one-year $25 million dollar deal with the Dodgers and is trying to find a home. The Nationals have the dough but never seemed to be a good fit for Ramirez.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersTuesday 2/3, 12:31 PM CT
The Los Angeles Times reports that Dodgers GM Ned Colletti is still adamant about signing Manny Ramirez, even though the eccentric outfielder has rejected offers of $25 and $45 million. "We still have an interest in signing Manny," Colletti said. "These situations can change in an instant and anybody can change them."

Our View: Colletti also said that the Dodgers have not ruled out going after other available free agents. The way things stand right now, it seems as if the one chance the Dodgers have at landing Ramirez is to sit idly by as he rejects offers from other teams who can't afford him and reach an agreement some time during Spring Training.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersTuesday 2/3, 8:43 AM CT
Expanding on an earlier report, the LA Times reports that sources close to Manny Ramirez say that if the free-agent slugger were to be offered a considerable deal from another team, he would likely not allow the Dodgers the chance to match the deal.

Our View: The Dodgers' failure to sign Ramirez, which is becoming more and more probable, may mean the front office will pursue other free agents such as Bobby Abreu or Adam Dunn.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersTuesday 2/3, 7:18 AM CT
Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports.com reports that free-agent outfielder Manny Ramirez and agent Scott Boras have turned down a one-year, $25 million offer from the Dodgers.

Our View: The Dodgers' offer, which was presented to Ramirez on Sunday, is the largest annual salary offered to a free agent this offseason. Unlike Los Angeles' previous offer, which featured $25 million in a one-year non-guaranteed contract, this latest offer was guaranteed.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersMonday 2/2, 10:37 PM CT
Updating a previous report, ESPN.com indicates that Manny Ramirez and his agent Scott Boras have been given 48 hours to accept their one-year, $25 million offer that was made on Sunday night.

Our View: The Dodgers pulled their first offer of two years, $45 million shortly after they made it a couple months back. There have not been any other reports of the player receiving any other concrete offers, so he may just have to take this while he can.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersMonday 2/2, 7:53 PM CT
The Los Angeles Daily News reports that the Dodgers have offered Manny Ramirez a one-year, $25 million contract on Sunday night.

Our View: This is the second offer that they have made for the elite slugger. Earlier in the offseason, they offered him a two-year, $45 million deal that they pulled off the table. Expect his agent, Scott Boras, to shop around a little more before signing the deal, unless Ramirez steps into the negotiations.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersSaturday 1/31, 10:31 AM CT
The San Francisco Giants are interested in free-agent slugger Manny Ramirez, reports Buster Olney of ESPN.com.

Our View: Ramirez has been in limbo since turning down the Dodgers' offer of $45 million. He still wants a four-year deal, which does not seem realistic at this point.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersThursday 1/29, 4:51 PM CT
Albert Pujols is encouraging the Cardinals to sign Manny Ramirez, according to the Associated Press. "Maybe St. Louis doesn't have the money to sign him, but he could give them a discount because St. Louis is a great city that supports its players," Pujols said.

Our View: Pujols is probably forgetting that Manny's agent is Scott Boras. Boras got Manny out of his deal in Boston so he could cash in on him, so taking a discount just to get his client signed doesn't sound plausible. The signing wouldn't make much sense for the Cardinals either, who already have a surplus of outfielders. If nothing else, this could give Cards fans hope that perhaps Pujols will be willing to give St. Louis a discount when he's up for free agency in a few years.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersWednesday 1/28, 4:53 PM CT
MetsBlog.com reports that rumors regarding the Mets signing Manny Ramirez are beginning to snowball. One theory is that GM Omar Minaya is waiting to sign the outfielder the day before single-game tickets go on sale. Another suggests that agent Scott Boras will give the Mets a discount on Oliver Perez if they guarantee a third season for Ramirez.

Our View: There seems to be very little to back up these theories, except for a few fans and radio hosts. Single-game tickets for the Mets do not go on sale until March and there would be some legal issues if Boras were to work out such a package deal for Perez and Ramirez. Consider the Dodgers to remain the favorites for his services at this point.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersWednesday 1/28, 7:46 AM CT
Andrew Marchand of ESPN Radio 1050 stated that there is belief around the league that Manny Ramirez will remain with the Dodgers.

Our View: Marchand does not agree, however, as he feels Ramirez is more likely to land in New York with the Mets, especially if the club is unable to reel in hurlers Oliver Perez or Ben Sheets.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersTuesday 1/27, 5:42 PM CT
New York Mets manager Jerry Manuel said Tuesday that he would welcome the chance to manage slugger Manny Ramirez, according to the New York Post. When asked if Ramirez would be a nuisance in the clubhouse, Manuel said, "Nah, I don't think so. I don't have a problem with people that produce in the form and fashion that Manny Ramirez produces. We shouldn't spend that much time in the locker room anyway. Our job is to be on the field, and Manny Ramirez has proven that he is probably one of the best right-handed hitters of our generation. To have a shot at managing him would be exciting for me."

Our View: On topic of the possibility of him lobbying to GM Omar Minaya and the Mets' front office to acquire Ramirez, Manuel quietly stated it is not his job to get involved in personnel decisions.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersTuesday 1/27, 3:22 PM CT
The market for Manny Ramirez is reportedly heating up, according to MLB.com. Agent Scott Boras said, "We are negotiating with several teams. The process has begun and we will see where it takes us."

Our View: Boras would not comment on exactly how many teams are involved, but noted that Manny still seeks a four-year deal. The Dodgers are the only team to confirm having made an offer as of yet, believed to be for two years and worth $45 million.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersMonday 1/26, 5:08 PM CT
Manny Ramirez is still looking for a four or five year deal at $25 million per year, according to Sports Illustrated.

Our View: Ramirez is likely regretting turning down the Dodgers' initial offer of $45 million for two years right now. Earlier on Monday, Andy Pettitte signed a deal for nearly half of the guaranteed money that his initial offer from the Yankees included, so this could point to the path ahead of Ramirez.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersSaturday 1/24, 8:34 AM CT
It has been more than two months since the Dodgers offered Manny Ramirez a two-year deal worth $45 million that the slugger rejected, and the team is hoping agent Scott Boras will make his own proposal, according to the L.A. Times. "I'm hoping he'll give us a counter," Dodgers GM Ned Colletti said.

Our View: It's not known if Ramirez has gotten any other offers from other teams. It seems he and Boras have not backed off on their desire for a deal longer than two years, but with spring training quickly approaching, Ramirez may not have much of a choice.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersThursday 1/22, 7:27 PM CT
Mets COO Jeff Wilpon tells bloomberg.com that he has not limited Omar Minaya in regards to free-agent Manny Ramirez. Rather, he says that the team is just not interested in him.

Our View: Adding Ramirez would be a huge boost to an already potent offense, but the Mets are not looking his way at the moment. Ramirez is actively seeking suitors and it's possible that the Mets get involved.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersMonday 1/19, 11:08 PM CT
The L.A. Times reports that Scott Boras and Ned Colletti spoke for about 15 minutes on Monday, but nothing new seemed to materialize. Boras is still seeking four years, while the Dodgers have not budged from their original two-year, $45 million offer. There is no offer on the table.

Our View: Boras just has not been able to get teams seriously interested enough to get any leverage in the negotiations. The Giants have been hot and cold on Ramirez for nearly a month, but few other teams have shown an authentic interest.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersSaturday 1/17, 7:55 PM CT
According to Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.com, Giants general manager Brian Sabean has not completely ruled out extending an offer to Manny Ramirez, although the acquisition of the high-priced free-agent outfielder would mean reshuffling the team's defensive alignment and putting the progress of younger players on hold. "It would have to be short-term," Sabean said. "But more so, we would have to decide what this means for how we put the ballclub around him for the next year or two."

Our View: Signing Ramirez would likely mean the end of Randy Winn's days in San Francisco. Furthermore, such a transaction would also mean less playing time for 24-year-old left fielder Nate Schierholtz, who hit .310 in 58 games last season.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersThursday 1/8, 5:55 PM CT
Manny Ramirez is still a top target for the Dodgers, according to MLB.com. "We want Manny, and Manny knows it," GM Ned Colletti said. "We'll just keep talking and see if something can't be worked out."

Our View: The offer that the Dodger made was for 2-years and $45 million, but Scott Boras and Manny are still hoping for an offer that is double that. It remains to be seen if they will get such an offer, from the Dodgers or anyone else.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersTuesday 1/6, 5:34 PM CT
ESPN.com's Jayson Stark has the latest on the Giants' involvement in the Manny Ramirez saga. Quoting a source close to the Giants, Stark reported that every insinuation thus far linking San Francisco and the free-agent outfielder is "unfounded" or "baloney."

Our View: Stark also reported that the Giants have nearly exceeded their $100 million payroll for the upcoming season. Currently at $85 million, the Giants don't figure to heavily pursue third baseman Joe Crede, as was previously reported.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersTuesday 1/6, 9:04 AM CT
Manny Ramirez's rep (Scott Boras) is still seeking at least a $100 million deal for his client, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports.

Our View: Rosenthal adds that Ramirez is open to the idea of playing in San Francisco.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersMonday 1/5, 9:03 AM CT
Jon Heyman of Sports Illustrated states the Rangers are considering chasing Manny Ramirez.

Our View: GM Jon Daniels is not currently pursuing him, but is yet to rule the future Hall of Famer out. The club needs to replace Milton Bradley's bat in the outfield.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersMonday 1/5, 7:19 AM CT
According to a report from Yahoo! Sports' Tim Brown, it's now a two-horse race between the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Francisco Giants for the services of Manny Ramirez.

Our View: The Yankees, Mets, Nationals, Rangers, and even the Rays were mentioned as possible matches for Ramirez, but each had reasons for falling by the wayside.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersSunday 1/4, 10:46 PM CT
MLB.com reports that the Rangers are not pursuing Manny Ramirez despite their need for a right-handed bat.

Our View: The market is dwindling for Ramirez. At this point, the Giants seem to be his best potential landing spot.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersSunday 1/4, 8:28 AM CT
The Giants have reportedly made a three year offer with an option to Manny Ramirez, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View: The Dodgers may counter with an offer to retain Ramirez, but they were reluctant to offer him more than two years so it's yet to be seen if they will reconsider.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersSaturday 1/3, 11:23 PM CT
The SF Chronicle indicates that the Giants want to wait until the free agent market among corner outfielders is more precisely defined before seriously attempting to reel in Manny Ramirez.

Our View: The Giants are not likely to engage in a bidding war so they need more financial flexibility than usual from Ramirez's rep Scott Boras.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersSaturday 1/3, 11:08 AM CT
It was previously reported that the San Francisco Giants had extended a contract offer to Manny Ramirez, but the San Francisco Chronicle reports that is not the case.

Our View: The team admits to speaking with Manny's agent, Scott Boras, but that nothing is in any way imminent.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersFriday 1/2, 3:16 PM CT
Chris Haft of MLB.com reports that rumors linking the San Francisco Giants to free-agent outfielder Manny Ramirez have been blown out of proportion. According to reports, the Giants may forgo offering Ramirez a deal in favor of addressing a need for a corner infielder.

Our View: Inking the star to a deal at a price in Ramirez's range, roughly $20 million a year, would cause the Giants to exceed their spending limit. Furthermore, such a transaction would force San Francisco to deal one of their current outfielders, namely Randy Winn or Aaron Rowand.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersFriday 1/2, 2:26 PM CT
While confirming that the San Francisco Giants have entered the drawing for Manny Ramirez, Sports Illustrated's Jon Heyman reports that the Angels can't be excluded from the pool of Ramirez suitors.

Our View: Don't be surprised if the Angels decide to at least entertain the idea of extending an offer to the 36-year-old Ramirez, especially after they lost Mark Teixeira to the Yankees.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersFriday 1/2, 7:58 AM CT
The San Francisco Giants have offered slugger Manny Ramirez a four-year contract, according to CBS5 in San Francisco.

Our View: The Giants have already signed Edgar Renteria and Randy Johnson, and adding Ramirez would give them another aging player, just a year after they were apparently going to go with a youth movement.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersThursday 1/1, 9:37 AM CT
The Denver Post reports that the Giants are making an aggressive play for free-agent outfielder Manny Ramirez.

Our View: Ramirez's asking price may be shrinking as few teams seem to be interested in signing him. The Giants have depth in the outfield already, so adding Ramirez may preclude a trade. Fred Lewis started the majority of the Giants game in left field last season.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersWednesday 12/31, 9:13 PM CT
Scott Boras and Dodgers GM Ned Coletti have been playing phone tag and will likely get together after the New Year's holiday to discuss Manny Ramirez, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Boras and Ramirez originally rejected a two-year, $45 million deal from the Dodgers during Los Angeles' exclusive negotiating period, but the team pulled back the offer once he hit free agency. The market never really developed for Ramirez, so he might be lucky to get that type of contract at this point.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersWednesday 12/31, 7:23 PM CT
The Nationals are not interested in Manny Ramirez, according to MLB.com.

Our View: It seems like the club is much more interested in Milton Bradley. Bradley is more versatile as a switch-hitter, but is a little less of a power threat than Manny.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersTuesday 12/30, 10:31 PM CT
Manny Ramirez's agents have contacted the Dodgers, according to the Dodgers' official site. Agent Scott Boras expects the market for Manny to heat up as the holiday season comes to a close and also now that Mark Teixeira has signed.

Our View: Ramirez could get desperate soon now that some of the biggest spending teams like the Angels, Yankees, and Mets don't appear like they'll offer him a deal.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersTuesday 12/30, 8:50 AM CT
Manny Ramirez remains the Dodgers' first choice, according to the LA Times.

Our View: As previously stated, the Dodgers have interest in Adam Dunn and Bobby Abreu as a backup plan in case they are unable to retain Ramirez. GM Ned Colletti has not heard from his agent (Scott Boras) since his other client (Mark Teixeira) inked the Yankees last week.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersMonday 12/29, 6:46 PM CT
With the Dodgers now showing interest in Adam Dunn and Bobby Abreu, Manny Ramirez's market appears to be shrinking.

Our View: The Nationals and Angels have reportedly backed off of the slugger, and the Orioles appear to be the only team with sincere interest. Don't count out the Yankees, though. Sure they've already spent over $400 million this offseason, but they would certainly benefit from adding the New York City native to their lineup.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersSunday 12/28, 7:13 AM CT
The Orioles are believed to still be in the hunt for free agent outfielder Manny Ramirez, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View: The Nationals and Angels have pulled the plug on acquiring Ramirez, but the Yankees are not completely out of the running despite massive spending in the off-season already. The Orioles covet a big bat for the heart of their lineup, and missed out on Mark Teixeira, and Ramirez notably hit .314 with 18 homers, 24 doubles, and 76 RBI over 338 at-bats at Camdem Yards.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersWednesday 12/24, 9:42 AM CT
Manny Ramirez won't be heading to the Mets, according to the Newark Star-Ledger. GM Omar Minaya is having trouble selling him to ownership.

Our View: It's unlikely that Manny will end up playing for anyone other than the Dodgers at this point. He's burned bridges all over the place and he better hope that the one to Chavez Ravine is still standing or he may have a big pay cut in his future.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersTuesday 12/23, 8:49 AM CT
The LA Times suggests there is a slim chance that the Angels will pursue Manny Ramirez.

Our View: Ramirez would have to be willing to accept a two-year deal. Brian Fuentes is believed to be the top target for the Angels.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersMonday 12/22, 9:19 AM CT
MLB.com says that reports suggesting that Manny Ramirez is nearing a deal with the New York Yankees are not true, according to GM Brian Cashman.

Our View: Negotiations for Ramirez are not expected to heat up until after Mark Teixeira signs a contract. The Yankees should still be considered a suitor for the outfielder.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersMonday 12/22, 12:02 AM CT
The Yankees and outfielder Manny Ramirez are closing in on a three-year, $75 million deal, according to ImpactoDeportivo.com.do. The site says something could be announced on Monday or Tuesday.

Our View: We'd be remiss to simply dismiss this site, but they are hardly a definitive source for such information. We would expect the New York papers and other outlets to address this rumor fairly quickly.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersSaturday 12/20, 6:10 PM CT
Manny Ramirez expects at least a three-year offer from the Yankees, according to the New York Daily News.

Our View: The Yankees signing Ramirez would serve two purposes for the club: providing a power hitter to bat behind A-Rod and spiting the Red Sox.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersThursday 12/18, 9:49 AM CT
The Yankees have yet to make any offer to Manny Ramirez, according to Newsday.

Our View: Previous reports indicate that the Yankees will be heavy players in the Ramirez market, but nothing has taken shape yet. Their are reportedly mixed feelings within the organization regarding the enigmatic outfielder.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersWednesday 12/17, 5:54 PM CT
The Yankees may go hard after Manny Ramirez and may be willing to offer him a three-year deal, according to MLB.com.

Our View: The Yankees would certainly have a formidable duo for the middle of the order with Manny to protect A-Rod. An AL club is more ideal for Manny if he's to be offered more than a two-year deal because he could play as DH once his mobility becomes more limited.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersTuesday 12/16, 5:41 PM CT
Angels Manager Mike Scioscia said that he wouldn't mind having Manny Ramirez on his roster, according to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports. "Talent like Manny's is real," Scioscia said. "He's a winner. Whether it happens or not remains to be seen. But we would not rule him out. We have discussions obviously on character and makeup. We would not rule Manny out."

Our View: If the Angels miss out on Mark Teixeira, there's a good chance that the club will make a run at Manny. They can probably win the AL West again without another bat, but they need someone to can succeed in the postseason. Teixeira was Anaheim's best hitter in October last year and Manny has shown that he's a great postseason hitter his entire career. They need one of those bats to get to the next level.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersSunday 12/14, 7:18 AM CT
If the Yankees' plan to sign Mark Teixeira falls through, the team would be interested in signing Manning Ramirez, according to the New York Post. The paper reports that the team is likely to offer Ramirez a three-year deal in the range of $20 million per season. "Hank (Steinbrenner) wants him, but he isn't alone in the organization," a source said of Ramirez.

Our View: As if Red Sox fans need reason to hate the Yankees anymore, they could potentially have former Boston outfielders Manny Ramirez and Johnny Damon in the same outfield.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersThursday 12/11, 7:47 PM CT
Manny Ramirez stated that he feels ignored and has threatened to retire, according to Newsday.

Our View: HAHA. Good one Manny. There's just about zero chance of this actually happening as it would call for him to leave at least $40 million on the table. Not even Manny's that crazy.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersThursday 12/11, 3:23 PM CT
The Dodgers commented on Manny Ramirez at the conclusion of the Winter Meetings today, according to the Hot Stove Blog on MLB.com. GM Ned Colletti said, "Scott Boras (Ramirez's agent) outlined what they will need and we're not interested in doing five years or four years, a long-term deal. We want the player back and we're willing to pay a very high salary to bring him back, but short-term."

Our View: The Dodgers have discussed offering Ramirez a three-year deal, but are yet to actually propose it to his agent. The Dodgers previous offer was for two years, which was not deemed good enough.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersWednesday 12/10, 10:16 PM CT
The Dodgers have discussed offering a three-year deal to free-agent outfielder Manny Ramirez, according to Fox Sports.

Our View: The decision is likely a reaction to the recent rumors that have the Yankees pursuing Ramirez.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersWednesday 12/10, 5:09 PM CT
The L.A. Times reports that the Angels may consider offering a two-year deal to Manny Ramirez if they fail to re-sign Mark Teixeira.

Our View: The market for Ramirez has not taken shape yet, but he is clearly not the major free agent target that he thought he would be after leading the Dodgers to the playoffs last season.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersWednesday 12/10, 10:35 AM CT
Hank Steinbrenner is reportedly interested in Manny Ramirez and the Yankees are considering making a run at him, according to Sports Illustrated.

Our View: Ramirez would be an option if they miss out on Mark Teixeira, or pitchers AJ Burnett, Derek Lowe, and Ben Sheets. The Red Sox would not like seeing Manny in pinstripes, which could be part of the reason Steinbrenner is interested.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersWednesday 12/10, 9:50 AM CT
Agent Scott Boras commented that four MLB clubs have garnered interest in Manny Ramirez, according to the LA Times. Dodgers' GM Ned Colletti remarked, "That's good. I wouldn't like to see a guy out of work."

Our View: It is clear that Ramirez does not want to accept the Dodgers' offer of two years for $45 million. Boras is possibly mentioning that other teams are involved to pressure the Dodgers into raising their bid.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersTuesday 12/9, 11:30 PM CT
It appears that the Dodgers remain the only suitor for Manny Ramirez, according to Yahoo Sports. Yahoo's Tim Brown talked to half of the clubs in the MLB and no one seems that interested, especially at the price tag that Manny and his agent Scott Boras carry.

Our View: Manny may have to settle for a two or three-year deal after all. The Dodgers' original offer for two years and $45 million is looking like a pretty sweet deal now.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersTuesday 12/9, 11:30 AM CT
ESPN.com reports that Scott Boras met with the Dodgers late Monday might to discuss the return of Manny Ramirez. Boras told the Dodgers delegation that Ramirez is open to coming back to L.A., but sources familiar say that the Dodgers did not put their two-year, $45-million contract offer back on the table.

Our View: There has not been much noise surrounding one of the greatest hitters in the game this winter, and a five-year deal is beginning to seem improbable. There has been far more noise around CC Sabathia and Mark Teixeira to this point.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersMonday 12/8, 3:29 PM CT
The Dodgers are losing their patience while waiting for Manny Ramirez, according to ESPN.

Our View: The Dodgers have needs to fill in their infield, left field and with the pitching staff, and are short on time to make moves while waiting on Ramirez to respond to the club regarding his intentions.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersMonday 12/8, 1:14 AM CT
As expected, Manny Ramirez has opted for free agency rather than accept the Dodgers' off of arbitration, according to the L.A. Times.

Our View: Manny will likely strike it rich(er) this offseason and the Dodgers will likely be in on the bidding.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersMonday 12/1, 1:16 PM CT
Peter Gammons of ESPN indicates that Manny Ramirez is in better shape right now than he was when he signed with the Red Sox. Former North Carolina coach Mike Roberts said, "The work Manny did for his core and his agility completely changed him. It is amazing what he’s done for his body."

Our View: Ramirez wants a hefty new contract, and is doing a good job of helping his cause to get one with his news. Ramirez has 527 career homers and is determined to join the 600 club.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersSunday 11/23, 7:44 AM CT
The Chicago Tribune suggests that Manny Ramirez could land with the Mets if the Dodgers focus on signing CC Sabathia.

Our View: The Mets covet a productive bat for their outfield and the Dodgers consider re-signing Ramirez more of a backup plan than a top priority.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersSunday 11/16, 9:18 AM CT
ESPN.com reports the Red Sox were ready to formally suspend Manny Ramirez before trading him to Los Angeles in July, even delivering a letter to him after his refusal to play in a game.

Our View: Manny's problems during his last days in Boston are well documented, but from rumored free agent offers it seems unlikely that his wallet will be impacted.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersFriday 11/14, 5:42 PM CT
The Dodgers have pulled their offer for Manny Ramirez, according to MLB.com. The Dodgers will continue to negotiate with Manny and his agent, Scott Boras.

Our View: This isn't a huge deal because Ramirez was unlikely to sign the contract anyways. Boras has stated that they are looking for a five or six year deal, and certainly won't sign for under three.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersFriday 11/14, 9:33 AM CT
There have been rumors that the Orioles were interested in trading for Manny Ramirez, but the Baltimore Sun states that every Oriole official they have talked to has denied the report of being in the bidding for the outfielder.

Our View: Ramirez would be a great addition to the Orioles' lineup, but the team has more pressing needs, such as pitching help.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersFriday 11/14, 9:28 AM CT
GM Jim Bowden denies the report that the Nationals are targeting Manny Ramirez, according to FOX Sports. Bowden simply stated, "We are not pursuing Manny Ramirez."

Our View: The Nationals are still looking for a left-handed slugger, and they are pursuing free agents Mark Teixeira, Adam Dunn and Prince Fielder.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersThursday 11/13, 7:58 AM CT
The Los Angeles Angels may be in pursuit of free agent slugger Manny Ramirez, according to the L.A. Times. "At the end of the day, you want people who can hit, and he may be one of top right-handed hitters ever," said Angels owner Artie Moreno.

Our View: Ramirez will be courted by a number of teams, and the Angels certainly have the cash to go after Ramirez. He and Vladimir Guerrero would be a potent right-handed duo.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersWednesday 11/12, 8:57 AM CT
The Dodgers' deal for Manny Ramirez has a third-year option that could raise the value of the contract to $60 million, according to the LA Times.

Our View: The option for 2011 in the initial offer is believed to be worth $22.5 million and can be bought out for $7.5 million. The future Hall of Famer would earn $15 million in 2009 and $22.5 million in 2010.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersTuesday 11/11, 8:03 PM CT
After seeing what Manny Ramirez did for the Dodgers last year, Nationals GM Jim Bowden is promising everyone his team will be players in the bidding for the outfielder, according to Yahoo! Sports' Tim Brown.

Our View: We have also learned recently that the Marlins intend to make a play on Manny, but frankly, we believe neither team has much of a chance at him.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersTuesday 11/11, 6:34 PM CT
The Marlins could make a run at Manny Ramirez, according to the Palm Beach Post. Ramirez has received an offer from the Dodgers, but Manny's agent, Scott Boras, said the contract isn't long enough.

Our View: The Marlins' pursuit of Manny near the deadline was surprising, and going after him now makes even less sense given the team's financial constraints. It would be a huge shocker to see him land in South Beach.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersFriday 11/7, 8:58 AM CT
The Dodgers' offer for Manny Ramirez may not be long enough to keep him, according to the LA Times. His agent (Scott Boras) made it clear Thursday that the contract the Dodgers offered Ramirez isn't long enough.

Our View: The Dodgers offered $45 million over two years, and Ramirez is reportedly seeking a six-year deal. The Dodgers' efforts to re-sign him looks to be a long drawn-out process.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersWednesday 11/5, 6:56 PM CT
Updating a previous report, the L.A. Times reports that the Dodgers offered Manny Ramirez a two or three year deal at $25 million per season. It is believed that agent Scott Boras is seeking a six-year deal.

Our View: Manny will land a massive deal somewhere and the Dodgers appear to be one of the front-runners for his services. Expect these negotiations to go on for a while as Boras will seek out the maximum amount of money out there.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersWednesday 11/5, 5:01 PM CT
MLB.com reports that Scott Boras met with Dodgers general manager Ned Colletti regarding free agent left fielder Manny Ramirez on Tuesday night at the General Managers Meetings and proclaimed on Wednesday that he was finished with the Dodgers for these meetings, which end on Thursday. "Our discussions were largely foundational and preliminary," the agent said.

Our View: Ramirez is about to get rich. Real rich. The Dodgers figure to be one of the front-runners for his services.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersFriday 10/31, 9:23 PM CT
The Daily News reports that Hank Steinbrenner has recently said how much he admires New York City native Manny Ramirez. "Personally, I like Manny," said Steinbrenner, the Yankees' co-chairman. "He's one of the greatest hitters in the history of the game. He's a free spirit, for sure, but he knows how to win. We like some of the other guys, too. We just don't know yet."

Our View: Expect the Yankees to be a player in the Manny-sweepstakes along with the Dodgers.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersThursday 10/30, 5:04 PM CT
ESPN is reporting that the Dodgers want to talk to Manny Ramirez's agent Scott Boras because it will be the number one priority to sign the outfielder.

Our View: The Dodgers are one of the few teams that can actually afford to pay what Man Ram is looking for.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersThursday 10/30, 8:13 AM CT
The New York Yankees are expected to try and acquire free agent Manny Ramirez to be their right fielder next season, according to the New York Post.

Our View: The team certainly has the money, and if they are willing to commit the years Ramirez is asking for, he could be wearing pinstripes next year.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersFriday 10/24, 10:20 AM CT
Manny Ramirez has been offered a two year, $60 million deal by the Los Angeles Dodgers, according to the New York Post. The deal is being reported as more of a good faith offer towards fans, than a serious offer. Manny and his agent, Scott Boras, who are looking for a long-term deal with at least four years, will likely reject the two year contract.

Our View: Scott Boras has shown us one thing more than any in his career. He gets paid. He manipulated Manny into wanting a trade, and forced the Dodgers to decline the remaining option on Manny's old contract, because Boras would be unable to collect a commission on it. Boras won't accept the deal unless it ends up being the best offer, which is unlikely.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersWednesday 10/22, 5:56 PM CT
SI.com reports that the Dodgers are likely to make Manny Ramirez a lucrative offer as far as dollars go. However, they might not be willing to offer him as many years as he would like. The offer may be comparable to A-Rod's in terms of $27.5 million per year, but only two years.

Our View: The Dodgers would be wise to offer Manny a lucrative, short-term contract. He is likely to produce at similar levels to this season for the next couple of years. Anything after that, and they may risk a reduction in his productivity.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersWednesday 10/22, 1:36 PM CT
According to Fox Sports, the Blue Jays aren't likely to make a run at Manny Ramirez. "Manny is not priority No. 1. I can't even say he's priority No. 2," Ricciardi said Wednesday. "It would really be a long shot for us to bring him to Toronto. He's on our radar, but maybe not on our radar like some people will report."

Our View: Even though Toronto has shown it is open to spending big on free agents, it's hard to see how they could outbid either New York team or the Dodgers, who are very interested in bringing him back.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersSunday 10/19, 9:24 AM CT
The Boston Globe suggests that the Giants could make a run at Manny Ramirez. He could be targeted as a draw to replace Barry Bonds. Pat Burrell is also mentioned as a possible option for the outfield.

Our View: This is purely speculation, but acquiring Ramirez would help move the Giants back into contention in a weak NL West division for 2009.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersFriday 10/17, 4:46 PM CT
For those of you who think that Manny Ramirez will remain in Los Angeles make sure you read the report on TSN where Manny is quoted as saying the following. "I want to see who is the highest bidder."

Our View: With Scott Boras as his agent we would be shocked if Manny didn't merely go to whomever ponied up the most greenbacks regardless of anything else. Amazingly, for a player who has made over $140 million in his career, Ramirez seems more concerned over how large his bank account can become versus playing for a team that adores him and/or gives him a chance to win. Time will tell where he ends up but the folks in Los Angeles just got a whole lot more nervous.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersThursday 10/16, 8:26 AM CT
The AP reports that Manny Ramirez is reportedly seeking at least a four-year contract worth somewhere between $25 to $30 million a season. With super agent Scott Boras representing him, it seems unlikely that Ramirez will waiver.

Our View: Barry Bonds got a five-year, $90 million dollar contract when he was 38, the same age as Manny. Expect the slugger to clear that mark easily in the offseason. Scott Boras is a Dodger season ticket holder.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersWednesday 10/15, 11:18 PM CT
Manny Ramirez finished the 2008 playoffs with a 2-for-3 effort that produced the Dodgers lone run (on a home run) in their 5-1 loss in Game 5 to the Phillies. Manny finished the playoff hitting .520-4-10 with 11 walks in just eight playoff games.

Our View: Will this be Manny's last game in a Dodgers uniform? One would think the club would do everything in its power to keep in the fold a guy who hit .396-17-53 in 53 regular season games with the club, but given that he is clearly in this for the money and one last huge contract, it's no sure thing that he will return to the NL West.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersWednesday 10/15, 5:45 PM CT
A report by Jon Heyman of Sports Illustrated indicated that Manny Ramirez might be on the lookout for a 6-year deal worth roughly $25 million a year this off-season. "He pays for himself. You've got a free player with Manny," agent Scott Boras said. "He's an iconic player who's changed the face and fortunes of the franchise."

Our View: The early leaders in the Manny sweepstakes appear to be the Dodgers, the Yankees, the Mets and possibly the Blue Jays. Still, it remains to be seen if anyone would pony up $150 million for a player who is already 36 years old no matter how much crushing he has done this season.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersMonday 10/13, 11:14 PM CT
Manny Ramirez went 2-for-2 and was walked three times, but it wasn't enough, as he and the Dodgers lost to the Phillies, 7-5, and now trail 3-1 in the NLCS.

Our View: You can't blame Manny for this one. He continues to make things look simple and nobody is a more difficult out in either lineup.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersMonday 10/13, 6:00 PM CT
Manny Ramirez was one of seven individuals fined for their roles in the fracas between the Dodgers and the Phillies, according to the AP.

Our View: Also fined for the benches clearing were Hiroki Kuroda, Larry Bowa, and Mariano Duncan from the L.A. side. For Philly, the fined were J.C. Romero, Shane Victorino and Davey Lopes.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersSunday 10/12, 10:47 PM CT
Manny Ramirez was 1-for-2 and drew two walks as the Dodgers beat the Phillies 7-2 in Game 3 of the NLCS on Sunday. He scored twice and also recorded his fifth RBI of the playoffs. During a benches clearing incident at the end of the third inning, Ramirez came in from left field to bark at the Phillies and had to be restrained by teammates, manager Joe Torre and an umpire, according to the AP. Ramirez, who entered with 18 hits in 53 at-bats, 10 homers and 20 RBIs against Moyer in his career, raised his postseason RBI total to 72 -- eight shy of Bernie Williams' record.

Our View: There is a lot of bite to Manny's bark as he continues to own all major league pitching during his historic run with the Dodgers. The left fielder certainly has more fireworks left in him for these playoffs, expecially if he gets to battle Boston in the World Series.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersSunday 10/12, 9:08 AM CT
Manny Ramirez commented on his inpending free agency by saying, "Maybe I can get a six-year deal," according to the NY Daily News.

Our View: Dodgers' management agreed to discard his $20 million options for 2009 and 2010 upon his acquisition from Boston. He remains among the best hitters in the majors, but would be 42 at the end of a six-year deal, and could be hard-pressed to find a club willing to fulfill his wishes for a contract that long.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersFriday 10/10, 7:37 PM CT
Manny Ramirez went 1-for-4 with a three-run homer in Friday's 8-5 loss in Game 2 of the NLCS against the Phillies at Citizens Bank Park.

Our View: He is hitting .375 with four RBI in the series, but the Dodgers still trail 2-0. The series will move to Dodger Stadium for Game 3 on Sunday night.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersFriday 10/3, 12:13 AM CT
Manny Ramirez went 2-for-4 with two RBI in Thursday's convincing 10-3 win over the Cubs at Wrigley Field in Game 2 of the NLDS. He hit a single and a homer, his second of the playoffs. Los Angeles leads the series 2-0 and will head home to try and close it out.

Our View: Acquiring Manny from the Red Sox is paying off big time for the Dodgers. He is aiming for his third World Series in five years.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersWednesday 10/1, 8:57 PM CT
Manny Ramirez hit a solo home run and scored two runs in Wednesday's 7-2 victory at Wrigley Field. He had two hits, including an infield single, and a walk in five plate appearances.

Our View: Manny continues to be the most productive hitter in baseball and should be a highlight fixture throughout this postseason.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersMonday 9/29, 8:22 AM CT
Manny Ramirez commented on his time with the Red Sox, according to the LA Times. He said, "The first time I stepped foot in Boston, I said to myself, 'Whoa.' I told Pedro Martinez, 'Damn, man, I just want to get traded and get out of here; this place is not me.' I was unhappy for eight years in Boston but still put up great numbers. Baseball in Boston is like a Sunday football game, but played every day. We lose in L.A., I go to breakfast and people say, 'Well, you'll get them tomorrow.' In Boston, it's 'Hey, what's going on, the Yankees are coming.' It's just a different atmosphere. The fans in Boston got your back no matter what, but I'm talking about the people who write all this bull because it means so much to them. If your happiness depends on Boston winning or losing, you have to get a life."

Our View: Ramirez was a key member of Boston's two championships this decade, and will be counted on to carry the AL West champion Dodgers in the first round against the Cubs, starting October 1 at Wrigley Field.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersSaturday 9/27, 12:23 PM CT
Manny Ramirez will sit on Sunday according to the Los Angeles Times. It will be the first game he doesn't start since becoming a Dodger 52 games ago.

Our View: You'll want to get another outfielder in on Sunday other than the arguable offensive fantasy MVP of 2008.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersFriday 9/26, 9:55 AM CT
Manny Ramirez, who has set his own playing schedule since coming out west, says he wants to play two of the final three games of the Dodgers series with the Giants, accordig to the Los Angeles Times.

Our View: Ramirez has yet to miss a start for the Dodgers and has been simply tremendous for the club, and overall his batting line is pretty staggering at .330-37-121-102 with a 1.030 OPS. Look for him to continue the role playing in San Francisco the next couple of days.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersThursday 9/25, 10:18 AM CT
Dodgers GM Ned Colletti said he would like to re-sign outfielder Manny Ramirez, but will wait to hear the type of deal Ramirez is seeking before deciding whether or not to extend him an offer, according to the L.A. Daily News.

Our View: Ramirez will probably want no less than the $20 million he was making this season, and for a number of years. He has been absolutely outstanding in L.A., but you have to wonder if that will continue once he has the security of a long-term deal.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersThursday 9/25, 8:34 AM CT
Manny Ramirez hit his 17th NL home run and knocked in his 52nd and 53rd RBI in Wednesday's 12-4 win over the Padres, his 50th with the Dodgers.

Our View: Ramirez has been the best player in fantasy since the trade went down. In L.A. he is hitting .398 with a OPS of 1.248.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersSunday 9/21, 8:01 PM CT
Manny Ramirez had three walks on Sunday and went 0-for-2 at the plate to drop his average with the Dodgers to .399.

Our View: Doesn't Manny know if he doesn't hit .400 he wont get the $100 million deal he seeks this off-season? We jest of course, and even with the 0-for-2 effort today Manny is still hitting .399-16-49 in 48 games on the left coast.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersSunday 9/21, 1:19 AM CT
Manny Ramirez went 3-for-4 with five RBI in Saturday's 10-7 win over the Giants. He hit two homers in the game, the first was a three-run shot off Brad Hennessey and the second was good for two runs against Geno Espineli.

Our View: Ramirez now has 36 homers and 117 RBI, with a .332 average. He has registered multiple hits in four of his last six games, and snapped an eight-game drought without a homer.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersThursday 9/11, 12:06 AM CT
In yet another massive display of offensive fireworks, Manny Ramirez went 2-for-5 with four RBI. The best news was that both of the hits were home runs.

Our View: In 38 games in the blue and white, Manny is batting a robust .396 with a scintillating 14 home runs and 40 RBI. He won't get that $100 million deal he wants this off-season, but he is proving once again why is should be called one of the 10 best right handed hitters in the history of the game.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersSunday 9/7, 6:57 PM CT
Manny Ramirez continues to bomb away with the Dodgers, as he went 2-for-3 with one run scored in Los Angeles' 5-3 win over Arizona.

Our View: Ramirez is still hitting above .400 for the season with the Dodgers, and has been an invaluable contributor to their race for the NL West crown.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersSaturday 9/6, 6:19 PM CT
Manny Ramirez ended Saturday's game against the Diamondbacks with five RBI on a home run and a double. He also struck out with the bases loaded.

Our View: Manny has now hit 11 home runs with LA in 33 games. He totaled 20 homers in 100 games with Boston this season. Continue to expect stellar hitting from one of the game's best.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersMonday 9/1, 9:51 AM CT
The Washington Nationals are one team that may pursue left fielder Manny Ramirez when he becomes a free agent in the offseason, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View: The Nationals desperately need both offense and a big-time star to get people to fill the stands. Despite having a brand new stadium, they are averaging just under 30,000 fans per game, 18th in the major leagues.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersSaturday 8/30, 11:52 PM CT
Manny Ramirez went 4-for-5 with two RBI and three runs scored in Saturday's 6-2 win over the Diamondbacks. He hit a single, double, and two homers.

Our View: Ramirez has recorded four hits in back-to-back games, and has 14 hits over his last five outings. He has three homers over his last three games as well.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersThursday 8/28, 9:33 PM CT
Hitting third for the first time since joining the Dodgers, Manny Ramirez went 1-for-4 with a two run home run.

Our View: Joe Torre swapped Ramirez and Jeff Kent in the order (Kent went 0-for-3). Whether or not the move sticks is unclear, but no matter where he hits in the order there is no need to fret - Manny will hit.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersSunday 8/24, 11:29 PM CT
Manny Ramirez went 1-for-4 with two strikeouts in the Dodgers 5-2 extra inning loss to the Phillies.

Our View: Ramirez started ablaze for the Dodgers, but he has been icy lately, and over his last six games is hitting just .208.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersThursday 8/21, 8:17 PM CT
Manny Ramirez had a hit, a walk, a run scored and a stolen base for LA in Thursday's 3-1 win over Colorado.

Our View: Manny seems to have new life in LA. Not only is he hitting everything, but now he is swiping bags for the Dodgers.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersSunday 8/17, 7:21 PM CT
The Dodgers enjoyed a surge of offense from outfielder Manny Ramirez once again this evening, going 2-for-4 with his 26th homer of the season to total three RBIs and one run scored.

Our View: Go figure, Manny's on fire and keeps driving in runs. Counting today, the guy has 21 RBIs on the month of August, touting six homers and an average well over .400 for the month.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersSaturday 8/16, 8:30 AM CT
Manny Ramirez has not only helped the offense of the Los Angeles Dodgers, but he's been a boon for the box office as well, according to the L.A. Times. The team has averaged an extra 5,000 fans per game since they acquired Ramirez from Boston.

Our View: Ramirez has been everything the Dodgers have hoped for and apparently more. No way they could have assumed such a big attendance increase. The only people upset over this deal are the fantasy owners in AL-only leagues who lost a top player.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersWednesday 8/13, 12:06 AM CT
Manny Ramirez continues to hit for Los Angeles, and he went 1-for-2 with a walk and an RBI in his team's victory over Philadelphia.

Our View: Ramirez now has a .476 average since being traded to the Dodgers. He also has four home runs and 14 RBI. Sooner or later, the NL will figure out it is simply safer to walk him every single at-bat.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersSunday 8/10, 6:46 PM CT
Manny Ramirez went 1-for-4, but his lone hit was a double that drove in two runners in the Dodgers 5-4 loss to San Francisco.

Our View: Ramirez continues to punish NL pitching, and he now has 11 RBI in nine games with the Dodgers.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersSaturday 8/9, 12:17 AM CT
Manny Ramirez was held hitless by the Giants on Friday night going 0-for-5, but the Dodgers still emerged victorious with a 6-2 victory over the their arch rival.

Our View: What a bum. Clearly, the Dodgers shouldn't have made the trade to acquire him as he is hitting just .464 with nine RBI in seven games out west.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersThursday 8/7, 4:16 PM CT
Manny Ramirez keeps making the Dodgers faithful happy, as he hit another home run for L.A., his fourth, and collected two RBI to help the Dodgers take down St. Louis.

Our View: Despite his personal quirks, Manny keeps being Manny with the bat, and is off to a terrific start in Los Angeles while fantasy owners reap the rewards.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersTuesday 8/5, 2:25 PM CT
The Dodgers travel to St. Louis for an important series for both clubs. The Dodgers are trying to catch the Diamondbacks while the Cardinals are fighting the Brewers for second place in the NL Central. LA's newest addition, Manny Ramirez, loves hitting against the Cards. ManRam has hit .368 (21-for-57) against St Louis during his big league career.

Our View: Manny's big average includes four homers and 13 RBI in 17 games. He's 6-for-22 (.273) with two homers against Chris Carpenter, St. Louis' scheduled starter tonight.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersMonday 8/4, 9:48 PM CT
Dodgers manager Joe Torre has a policy that does not permit long hair, but new arrival Manny Ramirez has not made plans to get it cut yet, according to the Boston Globe. The paper got this information after speaking with Manny's personal barber - L'Montro.

Our View: Despite the rule being wholly archaic, the Dodgers should have known that Ramirez plays by his own rules, and the dreadlocks could be around for awhile.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersSunday 8/3, 9:00 PM CT
Manny Ramirez had four hits, including his 22nd home run of the season on Sunday, and he also knocked in three runs for his new club against the D'backs.

Our View: Ramirez has been stellar so far going 8-for-13 with five RBI in his first three games. When motivated the guy can still be a force, and with his impending free agency at the end of the year, we just might finally see what this future HOFamer has left in his bat on a daily basis.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersSunday 8/3, 9:35 AM CT
The stories continue to revolve around the recent blockbuster trade sending outfielder Manny Ramirez to the Los Angeles Dodgers. Today, the Florida Marlins have passed along their side of the story in not completing a rumored deal to add the slugger, suggesting their request for an additional $2 million in cash from Boston, sought to cover the cost of the compensatory draft picks they will be receiving upon denying Ramirez a contract extension next year, were denied, according to the Miami Herald. The Marlins also added their refusal to trade prospect outfielder Mike Stanton to Boston was a factor in turning away.

Our View: The desire to keep prospects is understandable, but if $2 million is all that stood between ManRam and a Marlins' uniform, it should be hard for the fans in Florida to accept such justifications. In the world of professional sports, $2 million is a drop in the bucket, and letting such details stand in the way of a potential championship may disappoint the Marlins fans.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersSunday 8/3, 8:49 AM CT
Yesterday we passed along a report that claimed outfielder Manny Ramirez had contacted the Red Sox just hours after the trade to the Dodgers was finalized, asking for a second chance to work things out in Boston. Today, agent Scott Boras is telling reporters those rumors are lies, according to the Boston Herald.

Our View: According to a published report, Boras called Red Sox officials about an hour after the 4 p.m. deadline and said Ramirez was having second thoughts about being traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers. The story suggested Ramirez promised to give the team an honest effort over the final two months of the season if the Sox backed out of the trade. While Boras declined to address specifics, he did acknowledge the Red Sox and Ramirez discussed an array of solutions before the three-way deal that brought Jason Bay to Boston. One source confirmed the possible outcomes included Ramirez remaining with the club if the Sox formally declined to exercise the player’s $ 20 million option for 2009 following this season, an alternative organization decided against largely because it deemed the player untrustworthy. According to Sox officials, the team ultimately decided to trade Ramirez because they could not count on him to give an honest effort during the final two months. No matter what Ramirez or Boras said in negotiations, Sox officials said, Ramirez’ credibility was so damaged and his behavior so unpredictable that they had little choice but to part ways with the player.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersSunday 8/3, 12:24 AM CT
Manny Ramirez led the Dodgers to a 4-2 win over the Diamondbacks on Saturday night in Los Angeles, as he went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer. His other hit was a single.

Our View: Ramirez has 21 homers for the season, and notched his first with the Dodgers. He is also 4-for-8 so far over two games with his new club.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersSaturday 8/2, 8:12 AM CT
Manny Ramirez wanted to stay in Boston after all, according to the Boston Globe. After being informed of the trade, Ramirez had his agent, Scott Boras, call Sox GM Theo Epstein and tell him if the club would drop the option year on Ramirez's contract, he would be on his best behavior the rest of the season.

Our View: So after all Ramirez did about clamoring to be traded, and saying the Red Sox did not deserve a player like him, he doesn't want to leave? As the story noted, that just confirms that Ramirez's behavior wasn't just "Manny being Manny." He was Manny being a disruption on purpose.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersSaturday 8/2, 12:36 AM CT
Manny Ramirez had two hits in four AB in his first appearance for the Dodgers though he did ground into a double play in the bottom of the ninth inning.

Our View: How weird is it to see him in a Dodgers uniform? Try very. Manny will hit no matter where he is, and he started doing just that on this night with two base knocks.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersFriday 8/1, 8:53 PM CT
Manny Ramirez will join the Dodgers wearing number 99 and sporting a haircut sans the dreadlocks, according to the Los Angeles Daily News.

Our View: Apparently he said he just wants to fit in, and since manager Joe Torre has a rule about hair length, Manny will cut his to be just like everyone else. Like short hair will make that happen.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersThursday 7/31, 4:08 PM CT
Manny Ramirez's $20 million team options in 2009 and 2010 will be dropped as part of his trade to LA, according to SI's Jon Heyman.

Our View: We assumed this would be part of the deal. Manny will now be a free agent after the season, and he's reportedly looking for a $100 million deal.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersThursday 7/31, 3:29 PM CT
The Dodgers have acquired Manny Ramirez from the Red Sox, according to SI's Jon Heyman.

Our View: Jason Bay is going to Boston as part of the deal. More details to follow.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersThursday 7/31, 1:47 PM CT
It doesn't look like Manny Ramirez will be going to the Marlins, but the Dodgers are apparently now back in the mix, according to SI's Jon Heyman. SI has also learned that Manny has approved a trade to go to Florida, Philadelphia, Los Angeles or anywhere else.

Our View: The Dodgers have offered Andre Ethier, but Boston prefers Matt Kemp.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersThursday 7/31, 12:40 PM CT
It's been about 20 minutes. Time for another Manny Ramirez update. ESPN's Jayson Stark is saying that yet another official with one of the three teams involved states that the deal is dead. The blame game is now being played, with Stark saying that the Pirates are blaming the Marlins for the deal falling apart and the Marlins blaming the Pirates. The Red Sox? Well, they're not too thrilled with either team.

Our View: Well, we are now leaning towards the side that says Manny is staying in Beantown. Obviously anything can happen over the next couple hours, though.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersThursday 7/31, 12:19 PM CT
The rumors just keep on coming. Peter Gammons of ESPN has reported that the trade talks revolving around Manny Ramirez are at a standstill. However, FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal has a source that says the talks are "taking off and Pittsburgh is getting what they're looking for."

Our View: Rosenthal has another source that is still not so sure a deal will get done. There's really no point in putting much stock into one report over the other at this point.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersThursday 7/31, 11:55 AM CT
ESPN's Peter Gammons has been told by a source that the Manny Ramirez trade talks are close to dead. The Marlins have reportedly asked for additional cash along with Ramirez in the three-way deal. That would mean the Sox would essentially be giving up Manny, two prospects and $9 million for Jason Bay.

Our View: We can't blame the Sox for not wanting to do that deal. This story is changing by the minute, so it's certainly possible a trade could be completed eventually.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersThursday 7/31, 11:28 AM CT
Manny Ramirez has approved a potential deal to the Marlins, according to SI's Jon Heyman. The Red Sox, Marlins and Pirates are still negotiating the details of a potential three-way deal.

Our View: Given Manny's comments over the last 24 hours, it's not surprising that he's given the trade the green light. We'll continue to update this situation as the window to complete a trade closes.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersThursday 7/31, 10:05 AM CT
A source with knowledge of the Manny Ramirez three-way trade discussions told FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal that "if anyone thinks this is a slam dunk, that's not the case." In the proposed deal, the Marlins would acquire Ramirez for Jeremy Hermida and a prospect. The Sox would then flip Hermida and prospects to the Pirates for Jason Bay. John Grabow is also involved in the deal, and although it's been reported that he could go to either Boston or Florida, Rosenthal believes the lefty would land with the Marlins. Contrary to other reports, Marlins prospects Ryan Tucker and Mike Stanton are not involved in the deal.

Our View: If the three-way trade falls through, the Pirates would then try to deal Bay to Tampa.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersThursday 7/31, 8:35 AM CT
ESPN's Jayson Stark reports that the chances of a three-way deal involving Manny Ramirez going down are "50-50." Manny would end up with the Marlins, while Jason Bay would land in Boston and Jeremy Hermida and prospects in Pittsburgh. Reliever John Grabow would also go to Florida.

Our View: We'll continue to update this proposed deal up until the deadline.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersWednesday 7/30, 11:13 PM CT
The Manny Ramirez to Marlins deal has been completed according to an "American League source" as reported by the Palm Beach Post.

Our View: Of course, the source is unnamed and officials from both ball clubs still deny that anything has been worked out. Though the Marlins wouldn't be on the hook for his entire $20 million contract of Ramirez since the year is two thirds over, it is still worth noting that the entire Marlins team is making roughly $22 million. Stay tuned as we will continue to report the latest rumors surrounding this deal.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersWednesday 7/30, 10:40 PM CT
In what feels like update number seventeen in the Manny Ramirez to Florida Marlins deal, latest word from Peter Gammons of ESPN is that the deal has not been finalized.

Our View: This deal could go down to the wire tommorrow, but Gammons is reporting that the real sticking point is which young players will be involved in the deal, though Manny would still have to waive his no-trade clause once the deal was finally agreed to.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersWednesday 7/30, 9:04 PM CT
The Manny Ramirez to Florida trade has been completed pending the approval of Manny Ramirez who will need to waive his no trade clause, according to Will Carroll of Baseball Prospectus.

Our View: According to the report, Manny will end up in Florida while the Pirates will receive Jeremy Hermida and three prospects, while Jason Bay and John Grabow will now become members of the Red Sox. Again the deal isn't official, but it's getting darn close.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersWednesday 7/30, 8:38 PM CT
Manny Ramirez might be at the center of a three way deal that includes the Red Sox, Marlins and Pirates, according to the Beaver County Times.

Our View: See if you can follow this. The Pirates would end up with Jeremy Hermida, the Red Sox would get Jason Bay and Manny would end up in Florida. Jack Wilson could also end up in Boston with Jed Lowrie moving to the Pirates. So many names, so little facts to go on.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersWednesday 7/30, 7:06 PM CT
Though nothing is official, details of a potential Manny Ramirez to Marlins trade are emerging, according to ESPN. The report speaks of the Marlins including Jeremy Hermida, Ryan Tucker and Mike Stanton, a minor leaguer with huge upside. There is also a version of the deal that replaces Josh Willingham for Hermida.

Our View: Peter Gammons was vociferous in his statements that the Red Sox must simply trade Ramirez because he no longer respects anyone in the Red Sox organization. At this point, it honestly seems that this deal could happen.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersWednesday 7/30, 5:34 PM CT
The Manny Ramirez trade rumors are heating up as Buster Olney of ESPN reports that the Sox are "serious" about moving Manny. Olney also reported that the Marlins appear to be the front runner for Manny's services.

Our View: Olney said that Ramirez was clocked at 6.0 seconds the other night as he "attempted" to beat out a double play. Given that Bengie Molina, who appears to be running in slow motion like the Bionic Man, is faster than that, it is clear why the Sox think Manny is just plain dogging it. After years of discussing moving him, it seems like it might actually happen.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersWednesday 7/30, 1:54 PM CT
Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports indicates that the Marlins are interested in dealing for Manny Ramirez.

Our View: The source stated that the deal could work if the Red Sox would pay nearly all of the approximately $7 million remaining on Ramirez's salary, and if the Marlins would include Josh Willingham or Jeremy Hermida, either of whom could replace Ramirez in left field, as well as a prospect. Ramirez would also have to waive his no-trade clause in exchange for the right to become a free agent at the end of the season, and would agree to decline salary arbitration when offered it by the Marlins in December.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersTuesday 7/29, 8:09 PM CT
Continued reports out of Boston now have the Philadelphia Phillies working diligently to get a trade in place to acquire outfielder Manny Ramirez , according to SI.com.

Our View: Earlier today SI reported the Dodgers are also interested in getting a swap done, but this more recent report has Philly as the leader in the clubhouse. SI reports it isn't yet known what players would be going back to Boston, but left fielder Pat Burrell is having a similar year statistically (.277/.400/.585 with 26 HRs and 61 RBIs in 103 games for Burrell; .304/.400/.538 with 20 HRs and 68 RBIs in 98 games for Ramirez) and could be a logical fit. He has a no-trade clause but has told the Phillies in the past that he'd be willing to waive it for the Red Sox and Yankees.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersTuesday 7/29, 12:55 PM CT
SI.com reports that the Red Sox and Dodgers continue to discuss a Manny Ramirez trade, but the deal is not close to being finalized. Other reports suggest the Dodgers would be willing to part with either Andre Eithier or Matt Kemp should the Red Sox send enough cash to cover the remaining amount left on Ramirez's hefty contract.

Our View: Don't count on his going down unless the Red Sox are foolish enough to add Andrum Jones' giant salary to the deal. Dodgers owner Frank McCourt, a Bostonian, is believed to love the idea of adding Ramirez to bolster the Dodgers' mediocre offense. However, McCourt has been telling Dodgers' people he doesn't want to add payroll during this trading season, and has been openly complaining about disappointing attendance and revenues.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersTuesday 7/29, 10:51 AM CT
The Mets have publicly denied interest in Manny Ramirez, but Dan Graziano of the Newark Star-Ledger reports that officials from both teams say the Mets have contacted the Red Sox about acquiring the pouting slugger. The Mets are reluctant to part with a top-flight prospect, though, which obviously hinders a potential deal.

Our View: It's very unlikely the Sox will trade Manny anywhere, but the Mets seem likely the most likely destination should it happen.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersMonday 7/28, 9:32 PM CT
The Boston Globe reports that the Red Sox reached out to the Dodgers in a potential Manny Ramirez deal, but the Dodgers were only interested if the Sox would take back Andruw Jones. Other reports mentioned the Sox were turned down immediately by the Mets.

Our View: It's unlikely Ramirez is going anywhere. He hit his 20th home run of the season tonight and is simply too valuable to part with prior to the stretch run.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersMonday 7/28, 11:30 AM CT
The Red Sox are reportedly talking to the Diamondbacks, Mets, Phillies, and Dodgers, about Manny Ramirez, according to the Providence Journal. Ramirez is open to leaving Boston and said, "If the Red Sox think they can find a trade that is going to make the team better, and both sides are going to be happy, I’m going to agree."

Our View: Philadelphia is seen as a logical trading partner because of the presence of manager Charlie Manuel, who served as Ramirez’s hitting coach, and for a time, manager in Cleveland. The source suggests the possibility of Pat Burrell (who will also be free agent after this season) going to Boston in exchange for Ramirez. But the Dodgers do have the most young talent to offer, and could propose the best offer to Boston. The other two mentioned clubs are less likely to land Ramirez.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersSunday 7/27, 11:01 PM CT
Amidst plenty of turmoil, Manny Ramirez went 3-for-5 with two RBI on Sunday against the Yankees. He scored twice in the game. Manny has discussed his willingness to be traded throughout the weekend.

Our View: We don't see Manny going anywhere. He is simply too valuable to the success of the Sox. However, owners would certainly like him to be happy. He is hitting .302 with 65 runs and 65 RBI this season in 96 games this season. When focused on hitting, Manny is among the best fantasy producers in the game.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersSunday 7/27, 4:37 PM CT
In an ongoing story, Manny Ramirez has now told ESPN Deportes that he would welcome a trade. He was scratched last night in the Red Sox lost to the Yankees. "If the Red Sox are a better team without Manny Ramirez, they should trade me; I will not object," said Ramirez. "I don't have any preferences: I could choose a team that offers me the best conditions or one in the chase for the postseason. I don't care where I play, I can even play in Iraq if need be. My job is to play baseball."

Our View: We don't see him going anywhere, but the wheels are in motion to make this a legitimate story to follow. Manager Terry Francona and Red Sox officers spoke with Ramirez on Friday after the results to test of both his knees revealed no injuries. There were reports in the Boston media that the team was planning to take disciplinary action against Ramirez if he did not return to the lineup for the last two games of the series against the Yankees. It was also suggested during the weekend that the Red Sox management could evaluate the idea of trading Ramirez before Thursday's deadline. manny should make good drama to mix into the Red Sox-Yankees game Sunday night at 8:05 ET on ESPN.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersSaturday 7/26, 12:45 PM CT
Despite his absence last evening, the Boston Red Sox have posted today's lineup and outfielder Manny Ramirez is once again listed as a starter, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View: Fantasy owners will need to track this situation on a daily basis. Manny is a fantastic commodity, but his inability to provide a reliable effort as he battles with the Red Sox over his contract status appears to be growing, and as such it may would be wise to insure he's in the lineup each day.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersSaturday 7/26, 11:00 AM CT
Reports out of Boston indicate Manny Ramirez has sealed his fate and the team is more than anxious to move on without their embattled slugger, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View: Here's the story. Fans understand the Red Sox have struggled to determine if the coming decision to accept the option year on Manny's contract is the right move for the team. Meanwhile Manny and agent Scott Boras are more than happy to talk in the press about their desires to sign another long-term deal and their willingness to do so outside of Boston (and, possibly, seeking to entice a trade out of Boston now). Yesterday, in one of the biggest games of the season, Boston manager Terry Francona filled out a lineup card with Manny batting fourth, but that was followed by an announcement that Manny could not play. It appears Manny is claiming there were problems with his right knee. In the past, management and the manager would be more than happy to accept and support this excuse, but not this time. Instead, the manager - apparently confident there's nothing wrong with the slugger - put Manny's name in the lineup, then sat and waited for Manny to pull himself out of the lineup. Manny complied. Never concerned with wins or losses, Manny told Brad Mills he was unable to play and took himself out of the batting order for a game that means as much as any this season. With that, the Globe reports the team is ready to move on, and resulting rumors of a potential trade seem certain to follow.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersFriday 7/25, 4:18 PM CT
Manny Ramirez has been scratched from tonight's lineup due to a sore knee, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View: The Red Sox start an important series against the Yankees tonight and could have used Manny's bat, but they'll have to find a way to beat Joba Chamberlain without him. Adjust your fantasy lineups accordingly.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersFriday 7/25, 3:20 PM CT
Manny Ramirez is penciled in to return to Boston's starting lineup against the rival Yankees Friday night, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View: He missed Wednesday's game with a sore knee, but is back in left field, and is safe to return to fantasy lineups.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersWednesday 7/23, 1:55 PM CT
Manny Ramirez has been scratched from Wednesday's lineup, according to the Boston Globe. Manager Terry Francona said, "He showed up this morning, I wasn't ready for that. He said his right knee hurts."

Our View: Jacoby Ellsbury will cover his spot in left field, and Sean Casey will serve as DH. Kevin Youkilis will bat cleanup in the order. We will keep you posted on Ramirez regarding his ailing knee.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersFriday 7/18, 11:46 PM CT
The Red Sox and Angels battled late into the night with XXXX emerging victorious, 11-3. For the Sox, it was the great Manny Ramirez leading the effort (despite his troubles with team management over recent days). Manny went 2-for-3 at the plate with one walk, hitting his 19th homer of the season to total one RBI and two runs scored.

Our View: Ramirez is set to meet with agent Scott Boras to discuss his future this week. The hope is to find another long-term deal, believing Manny can play at a top level until he is 40-years of age. The Sox have an option year to consider but the general thought suggests they will move on and take the money. Games like this make you wonder if the investment is worth the cost.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersFriday 7/18, 4:08 PM CT
Manny Ramirez has not been fined a six-figure amount, as had been reported, according to the Boston Herald. Instead it was a fine of $10,000 to $15,000 which will go to charity.

Our View: Ramirez has a $20 million option he wants picked up after the season, and this incident won't help his cause any. But he won't be suspended so keep him in your fantasy lineup.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersFriday 7/18, 12:50 PM CT
Manny Ramirez has reportedly been fined a six-figure amount by the Red Sox for his June scuffle with traveling secretary Jack McCormick, according to the Boston Herald. WBZ sports director Bob Lobel commented, "The thing that most people are forgetting and haven't talked about is the strikeout in Yankee Stadium. The bat on the shoulder for the three pitches from Mariano Rivera. That was a big [expletive] to the Red Sox after the fine. I'm just telling you, there are things in the front office that are perceived ... I'm saying that there is a strong feeling that that three-pitch strikeout was the message to the Red Sox and it's a strong feeling that that's unacceptable."

Our View: It is appearing more likely that Ramirez will part ways with the Red Sox following this season, unless he and the club can work things out.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersThursday 7/17, 2:50 PM CT
Red Sox Principal owner John W. Henry was offended by the comments made by Manny Ramirez suggesting that the team's front office and ownership hasn't been straightforward with him regarding his future, according to MLB.com. Henry said, "I find remarks that we have been anything other than completely straightforward to be personally offensive. Manny has been a crucial part of two World Series championships. I do not believe we would have won either without him. He has never played a more important role than he has thus far this year." Ramirez irked Henry by saying on Wednesday, "I want to know what's my situation. I want no more times where they tell you one thing and behind your back they do another thing. I think I've earned that respect, for a team to sit down with me and tell me this is what we want, this is what we want to do."

Our View: Manny wants to remain in Boston, but wants to sit down with team management after the season to see what his future is going to be.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersWednesday 7/16, 12:41 PM CT
Manny Ramirez wants to sit down with Red Sox ownership at the end of the season to find out what their intentions are for his future, according to the Boston Herald. The team has consecutive one-year, $20 million options on the slugger. "To be honest with you, I don't know, I want to stay in Boston, but I want to sit down after the season with ownership and see what my future is going to be in Boston," said Ramirez. "Let's see, but the ball is in my court. If they don't pick it up, I'm a free agent and I'll go play somewhere else. We'll see."

Our View: Manny turned 36 in May, but he's on pace for terrific numbers again. Maybe more important is the fact he's already played in 90 games.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersSaturday 7/12, 9:05 PM CT
Boston outfielder Manny Ramirez enjoyed a fun night at the park in support of the Red Sox's 12-1 win over Baltimore, going 2-for-3 with his 18th homer of the season to total one RBI and three runs scored on the night.

Our View: After hitting just .286 last month, Manny is looking to get back on track in July, hitting .313 coming into tonight. He now touts seven RBIs and six runs scored over his last five games.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersWednesday 7/9, 4:31 PM CT
Since his July 6 scratch, Manny Ramirez has come up huge for the Red Sox. Following his clutch hitting of the previous two nights, Ramirez went 3-for-5 on Wednesday with three RBI and two runs scored.

Our View: Manny has six RBI in his last three games. Consider the slump busted.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersTuesday 7/8, 9:36 PM CT
Manny Ramirez came up big again on Tuesday. He hit a game-tying two-run homer in the eighth to spark a rally that saw the Red Sox come out on top of a 6-5 decision over the Twins.

Our View: It was Ramirez's only hit of the night, but it appears he may have finally busted out of his slump.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersMonday 7/7, 9:26 PM CT
Manny Ramirez hit the game winning single in Monday's 1-0 win over the Minnesota Twins. The eight inning base hit came off of Brian Bass, who was the losing pitcher in the contest.

Our View: Manny went 2-for-4 with one strikeout. Ramirez is hitting .281 on the season with 54 RBI and 16 home runs in 85 games.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersSunday 7/6, 10:47 PM CT
Manny Ramirez got scratched from the start on Sunday, but merely for rest purposes. He made a pinch-hit appearance in the ninth but looked at three Mariano Rivera strikes before returning to the dugout.

Our View: Terry Francona was hoping the scratch would give Manny the time he needed to get his swing back. He has just one home run and five RBI since June 10 and he has not looked as aggressive in his at-bats over the past month.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersSaturday 7/5, 6:11 PM CT
Manny Ramirez went 0-for-1 on Saturday as he was hit by three Yankees pitches on the afternoon.

Our View: Manny is in an awful 9-for-48 slump (.188) that has lowered his average to .279. Hopefully today's outing will spark something in his bat, though he continues to appear to be completely off when it comes to his timing.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersThursday 7/3, 8:26 AM CT
Manny Ramirez had a poor series against the Tampa Bay Rays, going 0-for-11 with five strikeouts in the three game series, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View: Ramirez has seen his average drop from .305 on June 11 to .279 today. He is in a bit of a funk right now, but Manny is Manny and capable of busting out of it at any time. Things haven't gotten bad enough yet that he should be moved out of fantasy lineups.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersMonday 6/30, 4:29 PM CT
Manny Ramirez began June on fire hitting home runs in five of his first eight games. Since then the slugger has cooled. ManRam isn't as young as he once was, his attention to detail at the plate has regressed and his BB rate has declined. The Boston left fielder also doesn't offer anything in the way of stolen bases. He's still a starter in mixed formats but far from a top-tiered option any longer.

Our View: Manny's plate frustrations showed on Saturday, or so the latest reports suggest. Ramirez reportedly shoved the team's traveling secretary Jack McCormick to the ground on Saturday. When McCormick warned Ramirez that he might not be able to get the 16 tickets he requested, Ramirez responded by shouting, "Just do your job!" And then shoved the unsuspecting McCormick.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersMonday 6/30, 8:22 AM CT
Manny Ramirez reportedly shoved the team's traveling secretary Jack McCormick to the ground on Saturday, according to the Providence Journal. The two got into an argument over Manny's ticket allotment. Ramirez had asked McCormick for 16 tickets for Saturday night's Red Sox-Astros game, which is a high number for day-of-game. When McCormick warned Ramirez that he might not be able to get that many tickets, Ramirez responded by shouting, "Just do your job!" Amd that is when he shoved McCormick.

Our View: Later, the two met behind closed doors and Ramirez apologized to McCormick, who accepted. No further disciplinary action is expected against Ramirez. It is over, and manager Terry Francona is pleased with how the incident was handled.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersSunday 6/29, 5:35 PM CT
Manny Ramirez went 2-for-4 with a solo homer on Sunday. It was his first long ball since June 10.

Our View: Manny has been on a cold streak, due in part to a lingering hamstring injury. He has hit well the past two days, though, and we're not worried about his fantasy value.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersSaturday 6/28, 4:48 PM CT
Manny Ramirez is in playing left field for the second straight game on Saturday in Houston. The Boston slugger has been gimpy due to a right hamstring strain and was 0-for-4 in his return Friday night.

Our View: Ramirez is 0-for-3 in his career versus Astros' starter Brandon Backe.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersWednesday 6/18, 10:56 AM CT
Manny Ramirez experienced a twinge in his right hamstring on Tuesday night and is not in the lineup on Wednesday, the Boston Globe reports.

Our View: Ramirez and the Red Sox are hurt by the no-DH rule as they visit the Phillies. His hamstring issue isn't major, but the Red Sox can't afford to push it.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersTuesday 6/17, 11:34 AM CT
Manny Ramirez has a good track record against Jamie Moyer, tonight's opposing hurler for the Phillies, according to MLB.com. Over his career, Ramirez is hitting .340 against the veteran lefty, with 20 RBI.

Our View: Ramirez has 14 RBI over 44 at-bats in June, with a .341 average. Ramirez should enjoy another strong outing against Moyer.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersMonday 6/16, 11:13 AM CT
Manny Ramirez missed his second straight start on Sunday due to nagging soreness in his right hamstring, according to the Boston Herald.

Our View: It remains in question if he will be able to return to the lineup tonight against the Phillies. He cannot play as a DH as the game is in Philadelphia.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersSaturday 6/14, 12:12 PM CT
Manny Ramirez is not in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Reds, the Boston Globe reports. He left early on Friday due to a sore right hamstring. Coco Crisp, J.D. Drew, and Jacoby Ellsbury are starting across the outfield.

Our View: Given that the Sox can't use a DH in Cincinnati, this news is not surprising. Ramirez is day-to-day and could return on Sunday.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersSaturday 6/14, 7:17 AM CT
Manny Ramirez left Friday's game during the seventh inning due to a sore right hamstring, the Boston Globe notes. The ailment has been bothering him for a couple weeks, and Ramirez was unable to DH because the Red Sox were visiting the Reds.

Our View: The Red Sox have two more games in Cincinnati before traveling to Philadelphia on Monday-Wednesday. It sounds like Manny is in danger of missing some of those contests.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersTuesday 6/10, 8:47 PM CT
Manny Ramirez really seems to enjoy life as a DH. He went 2-for-4 with a solo homer on Tuesday and is now hitting .400-5-15-11 over 11 games in David Ortiz's usual spot.

Our View: Fantasy owners have been enjoying Manny's work all season, and the good times keep rolling. He has had some minor bumps and bruises lately, but those aren't slowing him down.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersSunday 6/8, 2:05 PM CT
Manny Ramirez hasn't played left field since May because of a tender hamstring, but he hopes to be back in the outfield by next weekend, according to MLB.com. Manny won't be able to DH in the series against the Reds that weekend, so he'll have to play in left if he's going to play at all. "I don't know if you're going to see him out there [before that]," said manager Terry Francona. "And hopefully when we get on the road, he'll feel good enough, because, obviously, we're better with his bat."

Our View: Expect Manny to be in the lineup versus Cincy. He's been ripping the ball out of the DH spot lately.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersSaturday 6/7, 7:54 PM CT
Manny Ramirez hit another long ball on Saturday to tie Eddie Murray for 23rd on the all-time list with 504 home runs.

Our View: Manny also picked up three walks from the DH spot and didn't seem any worse for the wear with his injured knee and hamstring. Look for him to continue to mash out of the DH spot as his stick is white hot right now.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersSaturday 6/7, 2:03 PM CT
Manny Ramirez was suffering from a tight right knee and hamstring, but he returned to Boston's lineup on Saturday, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View: He is batting cleanup, and fantasy owners should not be worried about him if he can play the entire game without any issues.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersFriday 6/6, 4:13 PM CT
Manny Ramirez's right knee and hamstring are still tight, so he is not in tonight's starting lineup, according to The Providence Journal. Manager Terry Francona said Ramirez reported that his leg is sore, but was hopeful the slugger would be back in the lineup on Saturday. On another note, Manny said that his spat with teammate Kevin Youkilis is "in the past".

Our View: It was originally reported that Manny just had a strained hammy, but apparently the knee is acting up on him, as well. Fortunately it sounds like he'll be back in there shortly.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersThursday 6/5, 8:30 PM CT
Manny Ramirez had a home run and five RBI before he was forced from the Red Sox game on Thursday night with a strained hamstring, according to the Providence Journal. Manny seemed to tweak the leg while batting. Eventually he drew a walk and was replaced by a pinch runner.

Our View: It certainly didn't seem like anything major, and with the team's DH spot open, we wouldn't be that surprised if Manny was back in the lineup in the next day or two. Maybe he injured himself when he got into a shoving match in the dugout with Kevin Youkilis.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersMonday 6/2, 9:10 PM CT
Manny Ramirez seems to be enjoying his days in the 500 club. He sent a ball over the fence for the third straight game on Monday and is up to 502 career long balls. However, Ramirez also flied out with two men on and two outs in the ninth. The Red Sox lost 6-3.

Our View: There was never much doubt that Manny could still hit when healthy. Ramirez has now played in 56 of a possible 60 games. That was a bigger worry than his bat coming into this fantasy season. Hopefully he can continue to avoid the DL.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersSunday 6/1, 4:57 PM CT
Manny Ramirez hit his 501st home run just a day after he joined the 500 home run club on Saturday. ManRam now has 11 home runs on the season and has raised his average to .294 with his three hit performance in Sunday's 9-4 victory over the scuffling Orioles.

Our View: Manny went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and three RBI on the day, and has to this point outperformed his average draft position. The knock on Manny has been his September lay-downs the last two years. Unless the Tampa Bay Rays can stay in the race there's a chance the Red Sox could have large lead in the AL East in the final month -- offering the veteran hitters in Boston plenty of pine time before the postseason schedule begins in October.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersSaturday 5/31, 9:34 PM CT
Manny Ramirez has joined the 500 home run club tonight, at the expense of the Orioles, according to the AP. Boston won the game 6-3.

Our View: Ramirez is the 24th player to reach 500 home runs, and that was his 10th of 2008.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersWednesday 5/28, 12:26 AM CT
In a somewhat concerning trend, it was once again outfielder Manny Ramirez serving as the lone voice of offense for the Boston Red Sox, falling to the Seattle Mariners in a heartbreaking 4-3 loss. Ramirez went 1-for-3 with a walk at the plate, hitting his ninth home run of the season with two men on and one out in the sixth, good for three RBIs.

Our View: That gives Manny six RBIs over the past three days.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersSunday 5/25, 7:24 PM CT
Boston suffered the 6-3 loss to Oakland today, but the force that is outfielder Manny Ramirez continues to work as a major league power. Ramirez went 3-for-4 at the plate, all singles, good for two RBIs on the day.

Our View: Manny got to the middle of May as hot as ever, but he has since gone cold, going 12-for-57 since May 7.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersTuesday 5/13, 9:39 PM CT
Every player in the top half of the Boston batting order got on base this evening, but the end result was a disappointing 5-4 loss to the Baltimore Orioles. Leading the way, as usual, was LF Manny Ramirez , going 2-for-4 at the plate with a walk, hitting his 12th double of the season to gather three total bases with one RBI and one run scored.

Our View: ManRam now carries 27 RBIs on the season but has struggled since we've entered the month of May, touting an uncharacteristic 12 strikeouts versus just six walks. Tonight he had his head in the zone and is working towards correcting those problems.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersTuesday 5/13, 1:59 PM CT
Manager Terry Francona will miss the two-game series against the Orioles following the death of his mother-in-law in Arizona, according to the Sports Network. Francona and his family flew to Tucson, and bench coach Brad Mills will manage the Red Sox while he is away.

Our View: The Red Sox are one half game ahead of the upstart Rays for first place in the AL East.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersMonday 5/12, 10:46 PM CT
Manny Ramirez finally hit a home run, number 498 of his career. The two-run shot was his second home run in 20 games.

Our View: Ramirez owners will be glad to see him hit his 500th and put the distraction behind him.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersMonday 5/12, 5:19 PM CT
Boston Red Sox outfielder Manny Ramirez , who was held out of the starting lineup on Sunday due to a sore right hamstring, is starting in left field and hitting in his usual cleanup spot tonight against Twins starter Livan Hernandez.

Our View: Ramirez made a pinch hit cameo on Sunday. He came up with the tying run on second base (Coco Crisp) and two outs in a one run game. Manny proceeded to ground out to shortstop ending the 9-8 loss to the Twins.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersSunday 5/11, 11:46 PM CT
Boston Red Sox outfielder Manny Ramirez was held out of the starting lineup for Sunday's 9-8 loss against Minnesota due to a sore right hamstring. The Red Sox are batting .336 with 33 doubles, 16 home runs and 70 runs scored over their last 10 games. They have scored at least five runs in each of those games and have a record of 7-3 over that stretch.

Our View: But they have had trouble hitting with men in scoring position in this series. The Red Sox are a combined 9 for 40 (.225) with RISP in the three games. Getting ManRam healthy will help their cause.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersTuesday 5/6, 8:44 PM CT
Manny Ramirez went 3-for-5 on Tuesday night and swatted a solo homer, the 497th long ball of his career.

Our View: Manny hadn't homered since April 20, but the Tigers practically set it up on a tee for him when they brought in rookie Freddy Dolsi.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersMonday 5/5, 5:46 PM CT
Manny Ramirez is back in left field for tonight's game against the Tigers. On Sunday, with David Ortiz scratched due to a sore knee, ManRam was the designated hitter.

Our View: Ortiz is back in Monday's lineup and Manny is back in left field.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersMonday 5/5, 11:17 AM CT
Manny Ramirez has been stuck on 496 career homers since April 19, as he has not hit one over his last 47 at-bats, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Ramirez has six home runs so far this season, and should regain his power stroke soon enough, in his bid to reach 500. He is still hitting fine with a .317 average over 32 games, with 23 RBI. He also has one stolen base this season, and 20 runs scored.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersSunday 4/27, 4:20 PM CT
Boston DH Manny Ramirez managed to steal a base today, his first stolen base not just this season but for the past three years. It is the lone highlight of Manny's day, going 0-for-2 at the plate with a walk.

Our View: Tampa Bay starter James Shields seems to have Manny's number, holding him to one hit in 12 at-bats.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersWednesday 4/23, 7:57 AM CT
Manny Ramirez has fared well against Jon Garland over his career, tonight's opposing hurler for the Angels, according to MLB.com. Ramirez is 11-for-21 (.523) with three homers and nine RBI against Garland.

Our View: Ramirez is hitting .342 over 79 at-bats with 20 RBI over 21 games so far. He will continue to play at a high level as long as he can stay healthy.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersMonday 4/21, 4:50 PM CT
Manny Ramirez was named the co-winner of the AL Player of the Week honors, this according to MLB.com. Manny posted a .958 SLG on the week while he scored seven times.

Our View: Manny has been fantastic all season and he is hitting .338-6-20 through 20 games for the Red Sox. It looks like Manny is back.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersMonday 4/21, 2:42 PM CT
Manny Ramirez did in fact receive a day of rest on Monday. The Red Sox slugger was out of the lineup for the first time this season.

Our View: ManRam essentially received a day and half of vacation. Throw in the ejection he received on Sunday for arguing balls-and-strikes and it became a mini-vacation for the future Hall of Fame outfielder. Because Coco Crisp is still nursing a sore hamstring, Joe Thurston got the start in left.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersMonday 4/21, 8:37 AM CT
Manny Ramirez will get the day off on Monday, the Boston Globe confirms. Joe Thurston will start in his place.

Our View: Fantasy owners should keep him in their lineups for this week, obviously.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersSunday 4/20, 2:02 PM CT
Manny Ramirez was ejected in the second inning today against the Rangers by plate umpire Paul Emmel for arguing a called third strike, according to the AP.

Our View: He left fantasy owners with a nice 0-for-1 day, with one strikeout.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersSaturday 4/19, 9:12 PM CT
Manny Ramirez continued to destroy pitchers in the early going as he hit his sixth home run and knocked in his 19th and 20th runs of the season for the Sox.

Our View: Manny is hitting .342 with all those RBI, and it appears that all the hoopla surrounding his off-season conditioning program wasn't hyperbole.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersThursday 4/17, 8:02 PM CT
Manny Ramirez hit his 494th home run Thursday night. With the home run, he passed Lou Gehrig and Fred McGriff for sole possession of 24th place on the All Time list.

Our View: Loving the spotlight, the left fielder added No. 495 an inning later, his fifth of the year.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersWednesday 4/16, 1:02 PM CT
Manny Ramirez has displayed good power over his career at Yankee Stadium as he blasted 27 homers there, according to MLB.com. He also has a good record against Chien-Ming Wang, tonight's opposing pitcher, as he is hitting 13-for-25 with two homers against him.

Our View: Keep him in your lineups tonight against the rival Yankees.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersSaturday 4/12, 8:08 PM CT
Manny Ramirez was the hitting star on Saturday for the Red Sox as he had two hits, including his second home run of the season, on his way to three RBI.

Our View: Manny now has 11 RBI in 12 games in his quest to return to the 100-RBI level this season. Once David Ortiz starts hitting, watch out.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersTuesday 4/8, 11:50 AM CT
Manny Ramirez has a solid track record against Kenny Rogers, today's starter for Detroit, according to MLB.com. Ramirez holds a .328 lifetime average (19-for-58) with two home runs and 13 RBI against Rogers. He is only hitting .250 over 28 at-bats so far, and this would be a good day for him to break out.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersWednesday 4/2, 6:59 PM CT
Manny Ramirez missed a golden opportunity to pad the stat line today, going 0-for-4 with eight men left on base against the Oakland A's. It's early, but it's rare to see ManRam come up short like this. The RBI machine won't fail fantasy owners so poorly in the future.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersWednesday 3/26, 8:14 AM CT
Manny Ramirez socked a solo homer off Rich Harden in Wednesday's loss to the Athletics. It was his only hit off the game. Ramirez departs Japan with five RBI over the two-game series.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersTuesday 3/25, 9:16 AM CT
Manny Ramirez went 2-for-5 with four RBI against Oakland in the season opener. Manny could bounce back with a strong season if healthy, evidenced by his opening performance.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersFriday 2/22, 6:31 PM CT
Manny Ramirez, in preparation for future contract negotiations, has decided to hire super agent Scott Boras, according to a report on Sports Illustrated. Just what the Red Sox wanted to hear we're sure. Boras will no doubt compile data to prove that Ramirez is the second greatest hitter of all-time behind Alex Rodriguez. While the might be hyperbole, Manny's stated intention of staying with the Red Sox the rest of his career may have just taken a hit with this move.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersThursday 2/21, 6:31 PM CT
Manny Ramirez will not press the Red Sox to offer him an extension or to pick up his $20 million option in 2009, but he would still love to finish his career in Boston according to a report on the AP. “It’s up to them to say, `OK, we’re going to take (the option). It’s not up to me to go into the office and demand a four-year deal, whatever,” he said. “No, I’m going come here to play the game, finish my year. If they want me to come back, I’ll come back.” Manny had his worst season in a decade last year with 20 HR and 88 RBI, but he still hit .296 with a .388 OBP to show he is still a top quality major league hitter. Given the rigorous off-season training program he has reportedly undertaken, chances appear good that the 35-year-old Ramirez could rebound to his 30 HR, 100 RBI ways in 2008.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersSunday 2/10, 12:36 PM CT
Manny Ramirez has been training like a football player lifting heavy weights this off-season in hopes of rebounding from his worst season since 1994. He has also spent time working on his flexibility to avoid the nagging injuries that have become common place. Manny is just 10 HR shy of 500 for his career, and he is still just 35-years-old on opening day, so there is certainly a chance he could rebound this season. 2007 was the first time since 1998 that he failed to hit 30 HR with 100 RBI as he was limited to just 20 longballs and 88 RBI. Manny Ramirez said Saturday that he'd like to stay in Boston after this season, but he's preparing himself for the chance he'll end up somewhere else next season, according to MLB.com. His current deal expires after the 2008 campaign, but the Sox hold options for 2009 and 2010. He's spent the offseason training at Athletes Performance Institute and plans to be at camp on time. Manny wouldn't be the first player to have a career performance when he has a contract on the line. It's obviously great motivation.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersSaturday 2/2, 8:13 AM CT
Manny Ramirez said he plans to be at training camp on time this month, according to the Boston Herald. "I’ll be there on the 21st," he said. Ramirez has been working out at Athletes Performance Institute in Arizona since early December, so he should be in great shape as he enters an important couple of years. His current contract runs out after this season, but the Red Sox have options for 2009 and 2010, so clearly Manny has many reasons to perform well this season.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersTuesday 9/25, 4:43 PM CT
Manny Ramirez, who has missed the last 24 games with a strained oblique muscle, will return to the lineup tonight against Oakland, according to the AP. Manager Terry Francona will bat Manny second in order to hopefully get the slugger an extra at-bat before Jacoby Ellsbury replace him in left field later in the game.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersTuesday 9/25, 10:40 AM CT
Manny Ramirez took batting practice on Monday, although manager Terry Francona would not comment on when the slugger would be ready to return to the lineup, according to the Boston Herald. At this point, you have to wonder if he'll play again before the regular season ends, much less be ready for the playoffs.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersFriday 9/21, 5:15 PM CT
Manny Ramirez, out with an oblique injury, is not expected to play this weekend, according to the AP. "I'd say it's unlikely," Boston manager Terry Francona said. "That's probably the best answer. I don't see it happening." Manny has been taking batting practice, but his oblique still bothers him when he runs. The Red Sox seem hopeful that they'll have Manny for the playoffs, but it remains to be seen in what condition he'll be in.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersWednesday 9/19, 10:40 AM CT
Manny Ramirez still felt pain from his oblique injury after doing some running drills on Monday, putting a timetable for his return on hold, according to the Boston Herald. "When he runs he feels it," Francona said. "It has not gone away.... Running yesterday didn’t go as well as he had hoped." The wise move may be to just hold Manny out until the playoffs, although the fact that the Yankees are now only 2.5 games back in the race for AL East title may cause the Sox to think otherwise.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersTuesday 9/18, 10:14 AM CT
The Red Sox continue to be cautious with Manny Ramirez, who has been out since August 28 with an oblique injury. "He needs to clear himself," manager Terry Francona told the Boston Herald. "The medical people have gotten fairly aggressive, and he's swung the bat fairly aggressive, but there has to be a peace of mind and confidence from himself that he can go play the game and not hurt himself. You can really make some disastrous mistakes trying to read somebody else's body." There is still no firm date for Manny's return.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersMonday 9/17, 10:43 AM CT
Manny Ramirez, out with an oblique strain, is still several days away from returning to action, according to Newsday. Manny wanted to go out on a minor-league rehab stint, but manager Terry Francona had to inform Ramirez that the minor league season was over.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersSunday 9/16, 9:53 AM CT
Manny Ramirez, who is battling on oblique injury, will do soft-toss drills at different speeds and various locations prior to Sunday's game, according to the Boston Herald. It remains to be seen when he'll be ready to return to action, but we should get a better idea as to how the muscle will hold up after today's drils.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersThursday 9/13, 10:29 AM CT
Manny Ramirez, who has been out of the lineup since August 28 with a strained oblique, took batting practice Wednesday for the first time since suffering the injury, according to the Boston Herald. "We've been talking all week about keeping things controlled," manager Terry Francona said. "And after in the (batting) cage, he felt like he could get out there. That’s a real good sign for him." It's possible he'll rejoin the Red Sox by the end of the team's homestand.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersTuesday 9/11, 10:43 AM CT

Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersMonday 9/10, 6:17 AM CT
Manny Ramirez left the Red Sox over the weekend to tend to a personal matter but was expected to rejoin them Sunday afternoon. The club hopes that Manny will be able to soon resume baseball activities, like hitting off a tee, according to the Boston Herald. He's still recovering from a strained left oblique, and it's not clear when we will see him back in action.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersWednesday 9/5, 10:12 PM CT
Red Sox slugger Manny Ramirez will not make the trip with the team to Baltimore for a four game series that begins Thursday, according to the Boston Herald. Ramirez has missed the past week of games with a strained left oblique.

Our View: It’s beginning to look like Ramirez won’t be able to offer much more help to fantasy owners this season. Jacoby Ellsbury will likely continue to get playing time in left field while Ramirez is out of the lineup.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersSunday 9/2, 3:18 PM CT
Manny Ramirez was out of the lineup again on Sunday, the fifth straight game he's missed with a strained muscle in his left side. Ramirez previously told the Boston Herald that he expects to miss about 10 games, so don't expect the outfielder to get back in the action until the end of the week.
Manny Ramirez, LF, Los Angeles DodgersFriday 8/31, 10:38 PM CT
Manny Ramirez missed his third straight game on Friday with a strained muscle in his left side. He underwent an MRI exam Friday, but manager Terry Francona said results hadn't been received. "These types of things can be a week, they can be two weeks. You don't know" how long Ramirez will be out, he said.

Our View: He's still considered out indefinitely.
