Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosWednesday 10/7, 9:56 AM CT
The Houston Chronicle reports that the Astros are concerned about ace pitcher Roy Oswalt's health for the 2010 season.

Our View: The usually durable righty still made 30 starts in 2009, the sixth consecutive season in which he's done so, but struggled with back pain for long stretches. As a result, he posted the first plus-4.00 ERA of his career. He should drafted with considerable caution next season, though he could also turn into a considerable steal.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosFriday 9/25, 8:15 AM CT
Roy Oswalt has been placed on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to September 16 with lower back inflammation, almost certainly ending his season.

Our View: This means that for the first time is his nine-year career, Oswalt will officially not reach double digits in wins. In 30 starts this season, he was only able to go 8-6. He also finishes the year with a 4.12 ERA, making this the first time he has ever posted an ERA above 4.00.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosThursday 9/24, 7:19 PM CT
Updating a previous report, Astros' ace Roy Oswalt got a second opinion on his ailing back on Thursday, according to MLB.com. Dr. Andrew Dossett recommended core-strengthening exercises and less running to relieve Oswalt's condition.

Our View: Oswalt isn't likely to pitch again this season, but it sounds like the core-strengthening exercises should be able to help. There is no reason for Oswalt to rush back to the mound, as the Astros are already looking forward to next season.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosTuesday 9/22, 6:08 PM CT
According to the Houston Chronicle, Roy Oswalt will seek a second opinion on his ailing back. He is scheduled to meet with Dr. Andrew Dossett on Thursday.

Our View: Oswalt has been dealing with back issues most of the season and he's hoping the new doc can offer some answers. He's been shut down for the year and barring a miracle cure from Dr. Dossett, his situation will likely remain the same.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosWednesday 9/16, 7:18 PM CT
One day after an ineffective start against the Reds, Roy Oswalt has been shut-down for the season with back pain, according to MLB.com.

Our View: His back had been plaguing him for some time, and with the Astros season all but done, it makes sense to close down the 32-year-old ace. With an 8-6 record, this will be the first time in Oswalt's nine-year career that he's failed to compile a double-digit win total.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosTuesday 9/15, 9:41 PM CT
Roy Oswalt was far from sharp on Tuesday night. The Astros ace allowed four runs on six hits over just five innings. He fanned three but did not figure in the decision of the 5-4 loss to the Reds.

Our View: Oswalt has now allowed ten earned runs in his last seven innings spanning two starts and it looks like something is not right with the talented starter. He's dealt with a laundry list of minor injuries this season and you have to wonder if he's hurting right now.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosTuesday 9/15, 1:44 PM CT
Despite a bulging disk in his back, Roy Oswalt expects to make his scheduled start on Tuesday night, according to MLB.com.

Our View: The start comes against the Reds - a team he owns an amazing 23-1 career record against. If the 8-6 Oswalt can win just two more games this season, he will have posted double-digit win totals for nine straight years (the only nine years he has been in the big leagues). He is also just 23.2 innings away from eight straight 200-inning campaigns.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosMonday 9/14, 9:04 AM CT
The Houston Chronicle is reporting that Astros' ace Roy Oswalt experienced back spasms in his last start on Thursday against the Braves. Manager Cecil Cooper said that Oswalt is still planning on making his next scheduled start on Tuesday.

Our View: Cooper sounded pretty sure that he would be ready, but Oswalt was much less definitive. He is going to try to go, but check back tomorrow to make sure he will take the mound. After listening to what Oswalt himself had to say, we wouldn't be shocked if he was pushed back a few days.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosThursday 9/10, 10:45 PM CT
Roy Oswalt got flattened by the Braves offense on Thursday. The Astro ace allowed six runs on ten hits and a walk over just two innings in a 9-7 defeat.

Our View: This was easily the worst outing of the season for Oswalt. His ERA jumped from 3.77 to 4.03 and fantasy owners continue to shake their heads in disappointment at Roy's season.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosWednesday 9/9, 10:55 AM CT
According to SB Nation, Roy Oswalt was sent to see a doctor Tuesday after displaying flu-like symptoms.

Our View: Oswalt exited early from his last start with tightness in his lower back and now he's dealing with the flu, but the Astros ace is still expected to make his next scheduled start. The right-hander has dealt with a laundry list of injuries this season, so this should come as no surprise. He should be safe to start in fantasy leagues though.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosTuesday 9/8, 8:55 AM CT
Roy Oswalt is expected to make his next scheduled start, according to the Houston Chronicle. Oswalt left his last start on Saturday with tightness in his lower back.

Our View: Oswalt has dealt with back issues a couple of different times this season, but it sounds like this one was pretty minor. The doc checked him out and said he should be good to go, so expect him to be fine when he takes the hill again.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosSaturday 9/5, 8:17 PM CT
Roy Oswalt exited Saturday's start against the Phillies in the seventh inning with tightness in his lower back, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Tim Byrdak replaced Oswalt on the hill. The severity of his ailment is yet to be determined.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosMonday 8/31, 10:32 PM CT
Roy Oswalt allowed two earned runs on six hits over seven innings in Monday's 5-3 win at Chicago. He had one walk and three strikeouts.

Our View: Oswalt claimed his eighth win of 2009, and is 2-1 over his last three starts. He ended August with a positive performance, and hopefully he won't regress in his next trip to the hill.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosWednesday 8/26, 10:07 PM CT
Roy Oswalt allowed an uncharacteristic 11 baserunners in just six innings on Wednesday, as Houston lost 3-2 in St. Louis.

Our View: Oswalt, a famously great second half pitcher, has just two post All-Star game wins this summer, and is in real danger of not reaching double digits in wins for the first time in his nine year career.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosFriday 8/21, 11:38 PM CT
Roy Oswalt completely shut down Arizona's offense on Friday. He allowed just three hits and didn't walk a batter shutout over seven shutout innings in the 1-0 win.

Our View: The only downside to the performance is that Oswalt only struck out two, but he did improve to 7-4 on the season and has his ERA back under 4.00 where it belongs. It was his first quality start since July 22nd.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosSunday 8/16, 7:12 PM CT
Roy Oswalt got ripped up by the Brewers offense on Sunday. The Astros' ace allowed five runs on eight hits and a pair of walks over six innings. He struck out five, but did not factor in the decision of the 8-5 win.

Our View: Oswalt's ERA crept over 4.00 for the first time since June 29th and the right-hander has allowed 11 earned runs in his last two starts. He could use a quality outing to get his confidence back.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosTuesday 8/11, 10:28 PM CT
Roy Oswalt was shaky in his return to the rotation on Wednesday. Houston's ace started out strong, but crumbled in the fifth and sixth innings, allowing six runs to the Marlins. He took a no-decision, as Florida eventually won 9-8 in the 11th inning.

Our View: Oswalt's stuff was there, however, and he looks to be over the back problems that have sidetracked him lately.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosMonday 8/10, 8:11 AM CT
Roy Oswalt threw a successful bullpen session on Sunday, and he has pronounced himself ready to go Tuesday, according to the Houston Chronicle. Oswalt has missed his last few starts with a strained left lower back.

Our View: Oswalt threw 40 pitches yesterday, and he felt perfectly fine afterward. The plan has been for him to pitch Tuesday barring a setback, and it looks like he will be a pretty safe start at this point. He is facing the Marlins, so get him in tomorrow if you have him.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosFriday 8/7, 9:10 PM CT
Roy Oswalt (back) threw a successful bullpen session on Friday, and will start next Tuesday if a similar session goes well on Sunday, according to the Houston Chronicle.

Our View: The Astros starters have really gotten battered of late, and the team needs a healthy Oswalt back and dominating if they want to have any hope of ending their fade.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosWednesday 8/5, 3:48 PM CT
According to MLB.com, Astros' ace Roy Oswalt will not make his scheduled start on Saturday, but reported positive progress after throwing between 40-50 pitches on Wednesday.

Our View: Oswalt tossed from flat ground Wednesday and will likely head to a bullpen session Friday. He is eying Monday or Tuesday of next week as a possible return date.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosWednesday 8/5, 8:47 AM CT
According to the Houston Chronicle, injured ace Roy Oswalt (back) felt positive progress after throwing off flat ground on Tuesday.

Our View: Monday's bullpen session resulted in discomfort, so it's nice to see Oswalt have something positive to report. His doctor was pleased with the progress, but Oswalt is still not guaranteed to make his scheduled start on Saturday. This is definitely a step in the right direction though/
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosTuesday 8/4, 5:25 PM CT
Astros' ace Roy Oswalt is scheduled to throw a bullpen on Friday, and he will not be able to make his scheduled start on Saturday, according to the Twitter page of beat writer Alyson Footer. Oswalt's next start is still to be determined.

Our View: This is the second time Oswalt has been scratched from a start since the injury, but the report is that he is feeling better today. The team hasn't scheduled his next start, but it should be early next week assuming he doesn't suffer another setback. We will keep you updated on his condition.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosMonday 8/3, 8:31 AM CT
The Houston Chronicle is reporting that Astros' ace Roy Oswalt has been scratched from his scheduled Tuesday start as he continues to suffer from a lower back strain. Oswalt is hoping to return to the rotation Saturday against the Brewers.

Our View: The news isn't all bad for Houston, as Oswalt doesn't believe he will need a trip to the DL, but it is a little discouraging that they are without their ace during one of the most important stretches of the season. If Houston is going to stay in the playoff hunt, they will need a healthy Oswalt to trot out to the mound every fifth day, and right now you have to wonder if that will be possible. Fantasy owners should monitor his recovery going forward, but look for him to be on the mound Saturday barring a setback in his recovery.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosSaturday 8/1, 4:16 PM CT
Roy Oswalt threw 50 pitches off flat ground Saturday, according to Brian McTaggart's twitter page. Oswalt noted that he felt "20 to 30 percent."

Our View: Oswalt is recovering from a strained lower back. His next scheduled start is Tuesday, and he may throw off a mound on Sunday.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosThursday 7/30, 8:13 AM CT
Roy Oswalt received an injection, presumably a cortisone one, in his balky lower back on Wednesday, according to the Houston Chronicle.

Our View: Oswalt is still scheduled to pitch on Sunday in St. Louis, but "will be monitored and could be bumped." He was forced to leave his last start on Tuesday in the second inning with the injury. Stay tuned.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosTuesday 7/28, 10:54 PM CT
Astros' beat writer Alyson Footer is reporting on her Twitter page the starting pitcher Roy Oswalt suffered a lower back strain Tuesday night that caused him to leave in the second inning. Oswalt pitched 1.2 innings before the injury and allowed one hit and struck out two.

Our View: Oswalt is expected to miss at least one start, but the team will evaluate him again on Wednesday. The injury doesn't appear to be too serious, but fantasy owners should stay updated on his condition.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosTuesday 7/28, 8:03 PM CT
Roy Oswalt left Tuesday's game in the second inning after suffering an undisclosed injury. He was replaced on the mound by Wesley Wright.

Our View: Oswalt has been dealing with a finger injury, but he was seen walking gingerly down the dugout steps. We will update you on the status of his injury, but this could be bad news for the Astros if it is serious.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosWednesday 7/22, 9:45 PM CT
Roy Oswalt continued his second half surge on Wednesday night, but allowed three runs in seven innings to earn a no-decision. Houston would eventually win 4-3 in the ninth.

Our View: Oswalt is famously brilliant in the second half, so start him every night and expect great things.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosSaturday 7/18, 1:20 AM CT
Roy Oswalt was outstanding on Friday as the Astros dominated the Dodgers by a score of 8-1. Oswalt threw a complete game, giving up one run on four hits while striking out five and not walking a batter.

Our View: Oswalt hasn't been the dominating force we are used to this season, but he looked darn good tonight. If he can get things turned around, he could be an elite option in the second half. Oswalt owners should keep him going as long as he is healthy.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosFriday 7/10, 9:42 PM CT
Roy Oswalt exited tonight's game against Washington in the seventh inning with an apparent right hand injury, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: Further details regarding the injury are yet to be disclosed. We will keep you posted on Oswalt's status.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosThursday 7/9, 7:34 PM CT
Roy Oswalt gave up four earned runs on four hits over five innings in Thursday's 11-10 loss at Washington. He had two walks and four strikeouts.

Our View: The game went 11 innings, and Oswalt ends the night with a no-decision. Oswalt only allowed one earned run in each of his previous three starts, and the Astros' ace hurler should bounce back fine following his disappointing outing against the Nats.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosSunday 7/5, 7:36 PM CT
Roy Oswalt was dominant from the hill in Sunday's 7-1 win at San Francisco, as he only issued one earned run on three hits over eight innings. He had one walk and fired six strikeouts. Oswalt also went 1-for-3 with the plate with a single and two RBI.

Our View: Oswalt collected his fifth win of the season, and pitched up to his billing as the ace of the Astros' rotation. He has won in back-to-back starts for the first time this season.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosMonday 6/29, 11:24 PM CT
Roy Oswalt was in command from the bump in Monday's 3-1 win at San Diego, as he only surrendered one earned run on two hits over nine innings. He had two walks and racked up eight strikeouts.

Our View: The Astros' ace evened his record to 4-4, and allowed one run in four of his last six starts. He trimmed his ERA to 4.02 and collected his second complete game of the season tonight as well.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosWednesday 6/24, 11:26 PM CT
Roy Oswalt only issued one earned run on seven hits over six innings in Wednesday's 4-3 loss to the Royals at Minute Maid Park. He had two walks and eight strikeouts.

Our View: The Astros were leading 2-1 when Oswalt exited, but he was unfortunately handed a no-decision as the Royals rallied to score three runs over the last three innings of the battle. On a positive note, Oswalt trimmed his ERA to 4.30, and bounced back from his last outing when he gave up five earned runs at Minnesota.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosSunday 6/21, 9:43 AM CT
According to the Houston Chronicle, staff ace Roy Oswalt will keep his regular turn in the rotation despite throwing a season-high 126 pitches his last time out.

Our View: Oswalt stated that he wanted to pitch on regular rest, even though he has thrown a grand total of 245 pitches over his last two starts. He has been pitching with tendonitis in his right wrist, but is a workhorse and the team is allowing him to grind through it. With Oswalt keeping his regular turn, Brandon Backe will likely move back to the bullpen until the team needs another starter (possibly next Saturday).
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosFriday 6/19, 10:12 PM CT
Roy Oswalt struggled in Friday's 5-2 loss at Minnesota, as he gave up five earned runs on 10 hits over eight innings. He had four walks and four strikeouts.

Our View: Oswalt now has a losing record at 3-4, and his ERA climbs to 4.48. He is yet to win back-to-back games this season.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosSaturday 6/13, 10:25 PM CT
Roy Oswalt was in control from the hill in Saturday's 6-4 win at Arizona, as he only allowed one earned run on five hits over seven innings. He had two walks and five strikeouts.

Our View: The Astros' ace evened his record to 3-3 and trimmed his ERA to 4.37. He bounced back well from his last outing when he gave up six earned runs to Pittsburgh.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosThursday 6/11, 9:03 PM CT
Roy Oswalt's next start has been pushed back to Saturday against the Diamondbacks, according to the Houston Chronicle.

Our View: He was pushed back to get extra rest while dealing with a sore right wrist. Oswalt is not concerned with the ailment, and said it is more tendinitis than anything.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosSaturday 6/6, 9:32 PM CT
Roy Oswalt got knocked around by the Pirates on Saturday as the Astros fell 6-4. Oswalt went six innings and allowed six runs on nine hits while walking one and striking out three. Oswalt falls to 2-3 with the loss.

Our View: Oswalt just didn't have it tonight, and he is now 2-3 on the season. He has been a bit of a disappointment for fantasy owners this season, and his ERA is now up to 4.66. His strikeouts are down, and he looks like a completely different pitcher than owners have come to know. It might be a good idea to trade him now on his reputation while you can get some quality in return.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosMonday 6/1, 10:39 PM CT
Roy Oswalt was in command as he only surrendered one earned run on six hits over seven innings in Monday's 4-1 win over the Rockies at Minute Maid Park. He issued two walks and racked up eight strikeouts.

Our View: He has not taken a loss since April 11, and ended a three-game skid without earning a win tonight. He allowed three or more earned runs in each of his previous five starts as well, and it is encouraging to see the ace hurler get off to a strong start in June.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosMonday 6/1, 6:58 PM CT
GM Kenny Williams is shooting down rumors that the White Sox are interested in Astros' ace hurler Roy Oswalt, according to the Chicago Tribune. Williams said, "I prefer not to get into confirming or denying something because you tip your hand and if you tip your hand, you do not get anything done. But I will make the exception so everyone can relax a little bit. I have not talked to the Houston Astros about any pitching whatsoever."

Our View: Oswalt reportedly told the Astros that he would not waive his no-trade clause to play for Chicago. The Sox already missed out on acquiring Jake Peavy from San Diego as he exercised his no-trade clause.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosMonday 6/1, 2:54 PM CT
The Chicago Tribune is reporting that Roy Oswalt has told the Astros that he would not accept a trade to the Chicago White Sox. Oswalt has expressed an interest to stay in the National League if he is traded.

Our View: The White Sox must be feeling pretty bad about themselves at this point. First Peavy refused to play there, and now Roy Oswalt has done the same. If Oswalt does get traded, it will cost whoever he goes to a ton to get him. Odds are he won't be moved, but if he is it will be to someone in the NL.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosSunday 5/31, 10:06 AM CT
According to the Chicago Tribune, Roy Oswalt may be at odds with manager Cecil Cooper and may consider waiving his no-trade clause to be moved to a contender.

Our View: Oswalt is unhappy that the Astros have not shown any interest in acquiring Jake Peavy, and he seems to be well aware of the fact the the Astros are going nowhere. He would have to approve any potential trade, but there will be plenty of interest if the Astros put him on the block.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosThursday 5/28, 7:39 AM CT
Roy Oswalt felt better Wednesday after experiencing numbness in the fingers on his right hand during Tuesday's start against the Reds after being struck by a Joey Votto shot up the middle, according to the Houston Chronicle. He said, "It is a little bruised. My two fingers are, but it is not bad. It actually feels like the bones right here in your hand; it feels like the bones are bruised there from trying to catch it barehanded instead of with a pad."

Our View: The Astros' ace hurler will start Monday against the Rockies on an extra day of rest. Oswalt should be fine to keep active in fantasy lineups.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosWednesday 5/27, 7:30 PM CT
According to MLBlogs.com, Roy Oswalt was suffering from numbness in the fingers on his right hand in the final inning of his start on Tuesday.

Our View: Oswalt took a batted ball off of his pitching hand and struggled to grip the ball afterward. He is considered day-to-day as the 'Stros don't yet know the severity of the injury.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosTuesday 5/26, 10:24 PM CT
Roy Oswalt was less than stellar in Tuesday's 6-4 loss to the Reds. He allowed four runs on seven hits and two walks over six innings. He struck out five and did not factor in the decision.

Our View: Oswalt just can't seem to get into a groove this season. He has only had one quality start in the month of May and has an ERA over 5.00 during that stretch. Statistically he's better in the second half. The All Star Game just can't get here quick enough for Oswalt owners.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosThursday 5/21, 10:41 PM CT
Roy Oswalt allowed three runs on ten hits and a walk over 6.1 innings on Thursday as the Astros lost out to the first place Brewers 4-3. Oswalt struck out seven and did not earn a decision.

Our View: Oswalt has been shaky this season so far, but his career stats prove that he is a second half pitcher, especially the last few seasons. Don't give up on him as he'll be ready to turn on the jets soon. If you can snag him at a low price, now is the time as his second half boost is a near certainty.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosSaturday 5/16, 4:32 PM CT
Roy Oswalt did not factor into the decision as the Astros fell to the Cubs 5-4. Oswalt went six innings and allowed three runs on six hits while striking out seven.

Our View: Oswalt hasn't been nearly as good this season as we have come to expect, but he still has the stuff to get the job done. The strikeouts came back today, so it could be a sign that Oswalt is getting it back. He is still a play in all leagues, and it is possible he could get much better as the year goes on.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosFriday 5/8, 7:55 AM CT
Roy Oswalt is progressing fine in his recovery from a bruised right index finger, according to the Houston Chronicle. He will take a pain killer if he needs it.

Our View: Oswalt expects to make his next scheduled start in the rotation Sunday against the Padres. The Astros' ace hurler is 8-2 with a 2.62 ERA over 13 career games (11 starts) against San Diego.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosThursday 5/7, 7:38 AM CT
Roy Oswalt's X-ray on his bruised right index finger showed no structural damage, and he expects to make his next scheduled start in the rotation, according to the Houston Chronicle.

Our View: His next turn is slated for Sunday against San Diego. He may just throw on flat ground prior to the outing, but noted that it should be OK.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosWednesday 5/6, 7:57 AM CT
Roy Oswalt commented on the bone bruise on his right index finger sustained during Tuesday's game at Washington, according to the Houston Chronicle. Oswalt said, "I am hoping in two or three days it should feel better. I might skip my bullpen and let it calm down some and see how it feels going into this weekend."

Our View: His next scheduled start would be Sunday against the Padres. He is currently considered questionable, and we will keep you posted on his status.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosTuesday 5/5, 3:20 PM CT
Roy Oswalt left Tuesday's game in the sixth inning with a bone bruise on his right index finger. He allowed four runs on four hits and two walks with four strikeouts in five innings before exiting.

Our View: There's no word yet on Oswalt's status, but for now you should consider him day-to-day.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosSaturday 5/2, 7:29 PM CT
Roy Oswalt only worked one inning in Saturday's 5-1 win over the Braves due to a rain delay, according to MLB.com.

Our View: So fantasy owners do not need to panic as he did not exit early do to an injury. He is slated to make his next start Tuesday against the Nationals.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosMonday 4/27, 8:50 PM CT
Roy Oswalt scattered six hits and two walks while allowing only one run over seven innings in the Astros 4-1 win against the Reds on Monday. He struck out just two batters while generating three double plays.

Our View: Oswalt allowed three home runs in his last outing, so it was good to see him keep it in Cincinnati tonight. It appears as if he learned his lesson by generating 14 ground balls against just five fly balls. However, his lack of strikeouts continues to frustrate his owners. He has recorded only 18 whiffs in 32 innings.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosWednesday 4/22, 10:21 PM CT
Roy Oswalt gave up three home runs in six innings of work but escaped with a no decision in the Astros 6-5 win over the Dodgers. He gave up eight hits and a walk, while striking out six hitters.

Our View: Oswalt has been hammered for six home runs in 25 innings of work this season. He gave up a career-high 23 last season, but he looks well on his way to surpassing that number in 2009. We expect Roy to make some adjustments going forward and there's little doubt that the best is yet to come from Oswalt this season.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosFriday 4/17, 11:32 PM CT
Ace Roy Oswalt tossed six shutout innings against the Reds on Friday night, but his bullpen ended up blowing the 1-0 lead. Oswalt allowed five hits, walked three, and struck out four.

Our View: It's nice to see Roy bounce back after an awful outing in St. Louis, although we never have many doubts about Oswalt. He remains 0-2 on the year, but it's only a matter of time before he starts racking up wins.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosSaturday 4/11, 6:55 PM CT
Roy Oswalt was victimized by Albert Pujols on Saturday as he gave up a grand slam to the Cardinal slugger in Houston's 11-2 loss. Oswalt allowed six runs on nine hits and two walks over six innings and took the loss. He's now 0-2 to start the season.

Our View: Oswalt has not been the fantasy ace that owners were hoping for in his first two starts. Don't worry too much though as he started slow last season and rebounded with a huge second half, in which he recorded a 2.24 ERA.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosMonday 4/6, 10:40 PM CT
Roy Oswalt gave up three runs on seven hits over seven innings of work as the Astros fell to the Cubs 4-2 on Monday. He had two strike outs and also gave up two home runs.

Our View: This was not the opening day performance that Oswalt and the Astros were hoping for, but it was not a terrible outing by any means. Hopefully he will be able to rediscover his strikeout ability in his next start. He posted a 7.12 K/9 rate a season ago.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosThursday 4/2, 9:10 AM CT
Roy Oswalt exited Wednesday's spring start early as he was dehydrated and felt light-headed, according to the Houston Chronicle.

Our View: Oswalt is expected to be fine, and will be ready to take the hill on opening day.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosWednesday 4/1, 3:05 PM CT
Roy Oswalt struck out struck out three batters over four innings in the Astros 7-2 win over the Reds on Wednesday. He allowed three hits and one earned run in the outing.

Our View: Oswalt went six innings in his last outing, and the Astros would likely prefer to have him more stretched out prior to opening day. If you own him, now would be the appropriate time to rant on the WBC.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosFriday 3/27, 4:12 PM CT
Roy Oswalt struggled his way through six innings but wound up with a quality start on Thursday. He scattered ten hits and allowed three runs, but didn't walk a man and struck out six.

Our View: Roy got knocked around in the WBC and wasn't necessarily sharp on Friday, but he's still an ace and no one has more wins since he came into the league in 2001. If he struggles early this season, don't sweat it. He has a big second half surge every year.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosSunday 3/22, 10:52 PM CT
After a solid three innings of work on Sunday, Japan got the best of Roy Oswalt. The ace of the Astros lasted just 3.2 innings while allowing six hits, a walk, and four earned runs and the USA eventually lost 9-4.

Our View: Oswalt managed just one strikeout against the disciplined Japanese hitters. He has looked pretty good for most of the WBC and he should bounce back from this outing in no time. Count on another strong season from the former 23rd round draft pick.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosSunday 3/15, 10:50 PM CT
Roy Oswalt threw four shutout innings against the Netherlands as Team USA won 9-3 on Sunday. He gave up five hits and no walks while striking out five.

Our View: It seems unlikely that Oswalt will face another lineup as soft as this one in the near future, but that's no reason to penalize him. He got the job done, just as he has ever since being drafted by the Astros in the 23rd round and entering the major leagues in 2001.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosTuesday 3/3, 8:04 PM CT
Roy Oswalt looked sharp Tuesday against the Yankees, allowing an earned run while striking out two in three and a third innings.

Our View: Oswalt was the most effective pitcher on the American squad. However, Oakland's Brad Ziegler impressed in his relief of Oswalt, striking out three of the seven men he faced.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosThursday 2/26, 3:24 PM CT
Roy Oswalt allowed two earned runs on one hit over three innings in Thursday's 8-7 loss to the Braves, with one walk and four strikeouts. All of the damage came on a two-run homer by catcher David Ross.

Our View: Oswalt had a strong outing overall, and went three innings as that will be his only start with Houston prior to joining Team USA in the WBC. Oswalt should be targeted as a top-20 fantasy hurler.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosWednesday 2/25, 10:26 AM CT
Roy Oswalt will pitch Thursday against the Braves, and will be his only Grapefruit League appearance prior to joining Team USA for the World Baseball Classic, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Oswalt will be paired with catcher Humberto Quintero. The 31-year-old should be drafted as a top-20 fantasy hurler.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosFriday 2/20, 9:05 AM CT
Roy Oswalt threw his first live batting practice of camp Thursday, according to the Houston Chronicle. He said, "There were a lot of fastballs early. Then I switched to off-speed stuff. I felt good."

Our View: He is expected to pitch in one Grapefruit League game before joining Team USA for the World Baseball Classic. Oswalt remains a safe fantasy pick for 2009.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosSunday 2/15, 11:02 AM CT
The Houston Chronicle reports that Roy Oswalt hopes to throw in two spring training games before joining Team USA at the World Baseball Classic on March 2. He threw a 60-pitch session on Saturday.

Our View: Oswalt is one of the more consistent pitchers around. He had minor injury issues last season, but he still managed 208 innings. He will be an instrumental part of Team USA's success in the WBC.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosWednesday 2/11, 1:01 PM CT
One major leaguer who does not seem to be on the side of Alex Rodriguez is Houston fireballer Roy Oswalt, who had harsh words for the slugger, according to Astros.com. "A-Rod's numbers shouldn't count for anything. I feel like he cheated me out of the game," Oswalt said.

Our View: Of course, he's not willing to go that far with former teammate Roger Clemens. He just said the evidence surrounding him was "suspicious." Rodriguez has hit .429/.556/1.143 in nine career plate appearances against Oswalt.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosWednesday 1/14, 6:53 PM CT
MLB.com reports that the Astros are likely done signing free agents this offseason. Apparently, GM Ed Wade will only commit to a deal that is "too good to pass up" at this point in the offseason.

Our View: The Astros have a $107 million payroll, but don't appear to be very competitive at this point. They could probably stand to add another starter, and there are plenty available.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosMonday 1/5, 8:00 PM CT
Roy Oswalt looks to be the ace of the Team USA staff in the 2009 World Baseball Classic, according to the Astros' official site.

Our View: Fantasy owners may be weary of Oswalt going into the 2009 season as many pitchers that participated in the 2007 Classic struggled during the MLB season that followed.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosSaturday 12/13, 10:12 AM CT
Houston pitcher Roy Oswalt offered to restructure his contract so the team could have more money to sign free agents, but Astros owner Drayton McLane declined, according to the Houston Chronicle. "It catches up with you at some point. It doesn't solve any problems, and it can really hurt you in ensuing years," said McLane.

Our View: Oswalt clearly is urging the Astros to field a more competitive team, as they have let Randy Wolf and Ty Wigginton go.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosWednesday 12/10, 9:19 PM CT
The Houston Chronicle reports that Roy Oswalt is willing to restructure his contract in order to open up more money for the team to acquire another starter. If the season started today, Oswalt, Wandy Rodriguez, Mike Hampton and Brian Moehler would lead the starting rotation along with Brandon Backe.

Our View: Oswalt and Jake Peavy have been seen together in Vegas and Oswalt would undoubtedly welcome his friend's presence in the rotation.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosTuesday 12/2, 2:04 PM CT
The Braves have inquired about Astros' ace hurler Roy Oswalt, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Our View: The Braves have not received a favorable reply from the Astros. The Braves are seemingly looking for a backup plan in case they cannot land Jake Peavy or AJ Burnett.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosSunday 11/2, 7:41 AM CT
The New York Yankees called the Houston Astros to inquire about the availability of pitcher Roy Oswalt and first baseman Lance Berkman, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View: Obviously, those two weren't going anywhere, but the fact that the Yankees kicked the tires on them could be a precursor to a possibly very busy offseason.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosThursday 9/25, 10:19 PM CT
Roy Oswalt won his 17 game of the year on Thursday night when the Astros beat the Reds 8-6. Oswalt went six innings giving up one run on only six hits.

Our View: Tonight's win was already Oswalt's fifth win in the month of September. If somehow the Astros can move into a tie for the wild card Oswalt would start on Monday in a one game playoff.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosWednesday 9/24, 7:34 AM CT
Manager Cecil Cooper hopes to start Roy Oswalt on short rest (three days) Thursday, according to the Houston Chronicle. Oswalt will consider it if the Astros are still in the wildcard race, and he said, "I don’t know for sure we’re going on it. It all depends on the first two days of the Reds series. We’ll play it by ear the next two days."

Our View: Assuming Houston remains in the wildcard hunt, Oswalt will pitch Thursday, and then likely try to pitch again on short rest Monday, potentially giving him two more starts in the regular season for fantasy owners.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosSunday 9/21, 4:21 PM CT
Roy Oswalt won his 16th game of the year on Sunday as he struck out four Pirates while holding Pittsburgh to just one run in six innings.

Our View: Since the start of August Oswalt is 8-2 with an ERA of 1.99. After a miserable start, Oswalt is right back where he always seems to be, that is near the top of the starting pitchers in the NL with his 16-10 record, 3.60 ERA, 162 K and a 1.19 WHIP.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosFriday 9/19, 8:17 AM CT
Roy Oswalt may pitch on short rest Saturday against the Pirates to line up in case the Astros need to play September 29 against the Cubs with the playoffs on the line, according to the Houston Chronicle. If the Astros have playoff implications after their September 28 game against the Braves, Oswalt would start the next day. The Astros will consider the wild-card standings before opting to have Oswalt go on three days of rest instead of the usual four.

Our View: Oswalt is still under 200 innings (196.2) this season, and can likely handle pitching on short rest. He is averaging nearly eight innings over his last six starts, which shows he is not wearing out.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosTuesday 9/16, 10:11 PM CT
Roy Oswalt struck out 10 Marlins hitter Tuesday, but he also allowed five runs (three earned) on six hits and a walk over six innings.

Our View: Well, Oswalt finally gave up a run. He's been brilliant in the second half, but tonight he wasn't good enough.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosThursday 9/11, 9:30 PM CT
Roy Oswalt picked up his 15th win of the season as he shut out the Pirates in a complete game 6-0 victory on Thursday night. Oswalt ran his scoreless innings streak to 32.1 innings to set an Astros all-time record in the win.

Our View: This makes back-to-back complete game shutouts for Oswalt who lasted "only" 8.1 innings in the start before that. Obviously there is no hotter starting pitcher it the league right now, a fact that has brought his ERA down to 3.54 and his WHIP to 1.19, not bad for a guy who had a 5.45 ERA and a 1.45 WHIP through 12 starts wouldn't you say?
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosThursday 9/11, 7:59 AM CT
Manager Cecil Cooper was considering pushing Roy Oswalt back to Friday to battle the Cubs, but he will stay on regular rest and take the hill tonight against the Pirates, according to the Houston Chronicle. Cooper said, "We talked about it a little bit, but sometimes guys are just comfortable staying on regular rest and routine. Baseball players are kind of like that. They’re kind of strange birds sometimes. They like their regular routine."

Our View: Oswalt is always a must-start, but has a much better match-up against Pittsburgh tonight than he would against the Cubs.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosMonday 9/8, 3:40 PM CT
Roy Oswalt has been co-named the NL Player of the Week with Dodgers' outfielder Andre Ethier, according to the AP. Oswalt led the league with 17 innings pitched and tied for first with a 2-0 record, a 0.00 ERA and one shutout. Ethier led the NL last week with a .650 (13-for-20) batting average, a .741 on-base percentage and 10 runs scored.

Our View: Dodgers Derek Lowe and Manny Ramirez were also considered for the honor, as were Hunter Pence and Randy Wolf of the Astros.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosSaturday 9/6, 10:00 PM CT
Roy Oswalt threw a complete game one-hitter against a hot Rockies club on Saturday. He allowed no runs while striking out six, walking two and hitting two batters. He threw 102 pitches and gave up only a leadoff single to Brad Hawpe in the fifth inning.

Our View: Oswalt has been very good in his past five games and appears to have settled back into his dominant self.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosSaturday 9/6, 8:05 AM CT
Roy Oswalt has a cut on the middle finger of his throwing hand, but after throwing in the outfield Friday, he has been deemed ready for Saturday's scheduled start at Colorado, according to the Houston Chronicle.

Our View: Wandy Rodriguez was considered to start Saturday, but will remain on schedule and pitch Sunday in the series finale against the Rockies. Oswalt should be active in fantasy lineups despite his injury, as he has won each of his last two starts, and only allowed one earned run over the span.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosMonday 9/1, 9:25 PM CT
Roy Oswalt shut down the Cubs for 8.1 innings on Monday night as he combined with Jose Valverde for a 3-0 shutout.

Our View: Oswalt has won seven of his last eight decisions and shock off a torn finger nail in this dominating performance. Oswalt has gone 5-1 in his last six starts with a 1.59 ERA as he has completely erased his awful start to the year.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosWednesday 8/27, 10:37 PM CT
Roy Oswalt went seven strong innings Wednesday, allowing only one earned run on five hits. Oswalt collected his 12th victory of the season as Houston beat the Reds 4-1.

Our View: Oswalt has pitched better as of late and now has five consecutive quality starts.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosFriday 8/22, 8:57 PM CT
Roy Oswalt hurled a complete game, and allowed just three runs while striking out six, but the Astros failed to score and Oswalt picked up his ninth loss of the season, falling 3-0 to the Mets.

Our View: Solid game for Oswalt, and fantasy owners will be pleased to know that his ERA has dropped in four consecutive contests.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosSunday 8/17, 5:49 PM CT
The story for the Houston Astros today was pitching as ace Roy Oswalt dominated the Arizona Diamondbacks, pitching eight innings of shutout baseball, allowing just one hit with two walks and 10 strikeouts.

Our View: Oswalt improves to 11-8 on the season with a 4.28 ERA, and while the beginning of the season was full of struggle, he has been as dominating as hoped since, going 5-0 over his last seven starts. He has given up just 13 combined earned runs during that stretch with three homers surrendered over the same span.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosTuesday 8/12, 10:29 PM CT
Roy Oswalt went seven innings, surrendered three earned runs on 10 hits while striking out four in Houston's 12-4 win over San Francisco.

Our View: Besides Oswalt allowing 10 hits, he did walk three, which won't help his WHIP much. However, he picked up win number 10, and his ERA has lowered in each of his August starts to it's current 4.52 mark.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosThursday 8/7, 9:29 PM CT
Roy Oswalt was solid, throwing seven innings, allowing nine hits but just one run while striking out six to pick up his ninth win of the year.

Our View: This is more like the Oswalt that fantasy owners are used to seeing. Maybe this will trigger a turnaround for him.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosSaturday 8/2, 10:18 PM CT
Roy Oswalt issued four earned runs on six hits over six innings in Saturday's 5-4 win over the Mets, with three walks and seven strikeouts. The Astros were down 4-1 when he exited the game, but rallied to score four runs and pulled out a win in the 10th inning.

Our View: Oswalt remains at 8-8 and has allowed four runs in each of his last two starts. Hopefully he can get on track and pitch up to his billing as the Astros' "ace" down the stretch.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosMonday 7/28, 9:58 PM CT
Roy Oswalt came off the disabled list and beat Cincinnati again, striking out five in the Houston Astros’ 5-4 win over the Reds on Monday night. The ace threw 74 pitches in five innings in his first start since aggravating a left hip injury on July 11. He went on the DL on July 19 and was activated just before Monday’s game.

Our View: All four runs he surrendered came off of an Adam Dunn grand slam. The outing can be considered a relative success but we expect more from Oswalt in future starts.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosMonday 7/28, 5:25 PM CT
Updating a previous note, Roy Oswalt, who has been sidelined by an injured left hip since July 11, has officially been activated from the DL according to the AP. He will start on Monday against the Cincinnati Reds. He threw between 40 and 50 pitches during a pain-free bullpen session three days ago, prompting Astros manager Cecil Cooper to pencil in the righthander for Monday’s series opener with the Reds. "I’m confident that (the pain) is gone,” Cooper told the Astros’ web site. “But if he does say that he feels something, you’ve got to be extremely cautious with that. You don’t want him to have any kind of reoccurrence. You’ve got to watch real close."

Our View: "I’m ready to get back out there," Oswalt said after Friday’s bullpen session. "I haven’t pitched in a while. Hopefully, I can get out there Monday and get in a groove early, be able to keep us in the ballgame." He is just 7-8 with a 4.56 ERA in 19 starts this season. But the 30-year-old has been outstanding vs. the Reds throughout his career, going 19-1 with a 2.46 ERA against Cincinnati.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosMonday 7/28, 7:37 AM CT
Roy Oswalt is ready to return to the Astros' rotation Monday (against Cincinnati) following his bout with a left hip adductor strain, according to the Houston Chronicle. Manager Cecil Cooper said, "I’m confident that the injury is gone, but if he does say he feels something, you have to be extremely cautious. You don’t want to have a reoccurrence. They’ll watch him real closely in the bullpen when he’s warming up."

Our View: Oswalt will be a risky fantasy option in his first game back, but should be penciled into your lineups. He has an excellent track record against Cincinnati, as he is 19-1 with a 2.46 ERA over 24 career games (22 starts).
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosFriday 7/25, 6:52 PM CT
Roy Oswalt felt no pain in his bullpen session on Friday, and will likely make the start on Monday against the Reds, according to the AP.

Our View: Oswalt has been a major disappointment for fantasy owners, but now that he is fully healthy, maybe he can turn it back on and get back to the level we are all used to seeing him at. Don't hesitate to put him right back in your fantasy lineup.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosWednesday 7/23, 2:38 PM CT
Roy Oswalt, who is recovering from a left hip adductor strain, threw between 40-50 pitches during a bullpen session Wednesday, and felt fine with no issues, according to MLB.com. He felt good as he threw fastballs and changeups and he said, "I didn't throw 100 percent. I threw about 75 to 80 percent, and it feels pretty good. I'll know a lot more Friday, when I throw 100 percent and see how I feel."

Our View: Oswalt is expected to pitch on July 28 against the Reds, which will be his first start since a one-inning, 17-pitch outing on July 11. Astros' manager Cecil Cooper said Friday's scheduled bullpen session will be the determining factor in deciding if Oswalt is ready, and Oswalt said there is no reason to rush his return.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosMonday 7/21, 8:44 PM CT
Roy Oswalt will take it easy this week, at least as far as throwing. "We're not going to do much bullpen stuff," manager Cecil Cooper tells MLB.com. "We have to do some rehab, some stuff with the muscles on that side. That's all we can do at this point in time." Oswalt is on the DL due to a strained left hip and is expected to return on July 28.

Our View: Fantasy owners should plan on using Oswalt next week.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosSaturday 7/19, 4:52 PM CT
The Astros placed Roy Oswalt on the DL Saturday with a strained left hip. Oswalt will begin his rehabilitation immediately, and the team is hoping he can return to the rotation on July 28, according to SportsTicker.

Our View: The 'Stros are playing it safe here. Expect Roy to be back on July 28 against Cincinnati.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosFriday 7/18, 7:34 PM CT
The chances of Astros pitcher Roy Oswalt to make his next start are "50-50", according to MLB.com. "[I'm] still sore, kind of, actually. It's 50-50. Maybe 51 [percent] not good," he said.

Our View: Oswalt is going to throw a bullpen session on Saturday to see where he is at, but it does not sound very promising. The disappointing season for Oswalt continues.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosSunday 7/13, 1:48 PM CT
Roy Oswalt will miss his turn in the rotation on Friday due to his strained left hip abductor, and will be replaced by Brian Moehler, according to Astros.com.

Our View: Oswalt may yet go on the DL, and this just adds what already has been a frustrating season for those who have Oswalt on their fantasy team. His fate will be decided when the team returns from the break on Friday.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosSaturday 7/12, 5:35 PM CT
Last evening fantay owners watched in horror as Roy Oswalt , in the midst of his first start since returning from a minor hip injury, left the game after just one inning of work. He was later diagnosed with the left hip abductor strain, and now he tells reporters that he has "no idea" when he may pitch again, according to CBSSports.com.

Our View: There were no immediate plans to place Oswalt, who is 7-8 with a 4.56 ERA, on the disabled list, manager Cecil Cooper said. Cooper had hoped to use Oswalt as the Astros' starter in the team's first game after the All-Star break Friday against Chicago, but conceded that was now unlikely. We will keep you posted on the team's decisions with medical testing and treatment as it becomes available.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosFriday 7/11, 7:31 PM CT
Roy Oswalt, returning from a hip injury, left after one inning on Friday night with a with a left hip abductor strain, according to MLB.com.

Our View: This is not a good sign for Houston or fantasy owners. Don't be surprised if an extended trip to the DL is in the talented righties' future.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosTuesday 7/8, 8:19 PM CT
MLB.com reports that Roy Oswalt had a relatively successful mound session on Tuesday, as he tested his left hip one last time before making his Friday start.

Our View: "I was a little worried at first," Oswalt said. "I was probably throwing 70-80 percent when I first got out there. The last 20 pitches, I threw as hard as I could throw. I didn't feel anything. I wasn't as crisp as my last start, but hopefully it comes back Friday." If it were any other opponent besides Washington, we might caution you against using him, but he should be ok.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosMonday 7/7, 6:46 PM CT
The Houston Chronicle reports that Roy Oswalt will start Friday against the Washington Nationals. Oswalt hasn't pitched since June 30 when he suffered a strained left hip abductor muscle.

Our View: Oswalt received a pain-killing shot in his vertebrae on Saturday and said he felt great. He threw off flat ground today and will throw a bullpen session Tuesday.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosSunday 7/6, 10:06 AM CT
Roy Oswalt has rejoined the Astros in Atlanta on Sunday to have his problematic left hip examined Dr. Mike McCann, according to the AP. He has been bothered by a strained left hip abductor since leaving in the seventh inning during Monday’s start against the Dodgers.

Our View: Oswalt will toss off flat ground Monday, then throw a bullpen session Tuesday. His next start remains in question, and will be replaced by Brandon Backe against the Pirates Tuesday. He is listed as day-to-day but the team wants to play it safe with their ace hurler.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosSaturday 7/5, 3:57 PM CT
Roy Oswalt will miss his re-scheduled start on Tuesday due to a strained left hip abductor, the Houston Chronicle reports. The ace has returned to Houston on Saturday morning. Brandon Backe will take his place against the Pirates.

Our View: With the All-Star break approaching, it wouldn't be surprising to see Oswalt land on the DL and get that extra time to let his hip heal. We'll let you know if that happens.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosThursday 7/3, 9:25 AM CT
The Houston Chronicle reports that Roy Oswalt will push his Saturday start back a day or two while recovering from a hip abductor strain.

Our View: Oswalt doesn't "think it's a DL thing," and we don't either. The Astros ace had a 2.97 ERA in June after carrying an ERA over 5.00 for most of the year.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosTuesday 7/1, 7:46 PM CT
Houston is reporting the hip of RHP Roy Oswalt is doing well and, in fact, is progressing much quicker than anticipated, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Oswalt suffered a hip abductor strain in the last pitch of the sixth inning Monday against the Dodgers, and he was worried about the seriousness of the injury. But Oswalt told reporters Tuesday afternoon that he woke up in a little less pain after icing the hip Monday night. He also received treatment in the clubhouse Tuesday. Oswalt will be reexamined in two days to see how he is healing, and said he expects his next start to be pushed back by a day or two, at most.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosMonday 6/30, 10:19 PM CT
Roy Oswalt struck out nine in six strong innings, then left with an apparent injury in the Houston Astros' 4-1 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Monday night. Oswalt allowed a run and six hits, but walked off the field with an Astros trainer after throwing his warmup pitches for the seventh.

Our View: There was no word on the severity of the injury. We will update you when information is available.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosSaturday 6/28, 9:03 AM CT
The drama created by Shawn Chacon and the resulting barrage of assertions that a move out of Houston for several players, namely ace Roy Oswalt , seems to be going without attention from team management as reports indicate the Houston Astros have no intentions of becoming sellers in the trade market, according to the Houston Chronicle.

Our View: After Chacon assaulted general manager Ed Wade, several players noted the outburst was no surprise and that several of the veterans on this team no longer wish to work in Houston as a result. Oswalt was the biggest name attached to such sentiment, but owner Drayton McClane has told reporters he carries no such plans and the current team will remain intact moving forward.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosWednesday 6/25, 10:35 PM CT
Roy Oswalt allowed three runs over seven innings, but with no offensive support his record fell to 6-8 on the year.

Our View: Oswalt struck out five and didn't walk a single batter in his fifth loss in seven decisions despite the fact that he has permitted three or fewer earned runs in six straight outings.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosFriday 6/20, 11:28 PM CT
Roy Oswalt helped the Astros to snap an 8-game losing streak on Friday night by holding the Rays to two runs over 7.2 innings in his sixth win of the year.

Our View: If someone had told us that Oswalt would be 6-7 with a 4.84 ERA we would have said no way. Still, that is where he sits after this outing, and though his stuff is no longer what it once was, this outing was a very encouraging sign for a guy who has been in search of one.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosFriday 6/20, 3:37 PM CT
Roy Oswalt will make his 16th start of the season tonight at Tampa Bay, according to MLB.com. Oswalt is 9-6 in 22 career inter-league starts, but this will be his first meeting with the Rays.

Our View: Oswalt is a disappointing 5-7 this season, with a 5.04 ERA and 1.45 WHIP. He only had two strong outings this season, and has allowed at least three earned runs 13 times. He could continue to struggle against the 43-29 Rays, who are only 1.5 games back in the AL East.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosSunday 6/15, 6:30 PM CT
Roy Oswalt surrendered seven runs (three earned) on eight hits over 5.2 innings in Sunday's 13-0 loss to the Bronx Bombers in inter-league play, with four walks and six strikeouts.

Our View: Oswalt has been erratic from start to start this season, as he only allowed one run in his last outing. He falls to 5-7 with a 5.04 ERA.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosTuesday 6/10, 10:10 PM CT
Houston RHP Roy Oswalt was pitching like the hurler we have missed this season, all but dominating the Milwaukee Brewers to spark the Astros to a 6-1 win. Oswalt pitched seven innings, allowing one run on five hits with no walks and 10 strikeouts.

Our View: Oswalt gets his ERA down to 5.06 with a record of 5-6 on the season, getting his first win in his last five starts.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosWednesday 6/4, 8:51 PM CT
Houston RHP Roy Oswalt suffered his sixth loss of the season as the Astros fell 5-2 to Pittsburgh. Oswalt pitched six innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on nine hits with one walk and four strikeouts.

Our View: This is Oswalt's third consecutive loss on four starts, having allowed a combined 17 earned runs through that span.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosThursday 5/29, 11:24 PM CT
Roy Oswalt allowed two runs in the first and then settled down to permit just one more run over the next six innings though he fell to 4-5 with the loss to the Cardinals.

Our View: Oswalt was bit yet again by the home run, the astonishingly high 16th time in 12 starts he has been taken deep. Once his insanely high HR/F ratio normalizes, its almost 25%, Oswalt's ERA should dive.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosThursday 5/22, 10:55 PM CT
Roy Oswalt made his scheduled start on Thursday night, and though the results weren't great (11 hits, five runs), he was able to throw 94 pitches over six innings despite his sore hip.

Our View: Oswalt allowed another home run though there is no shame in having Ryan Howard take you deep. All we were really looking for from Oswalt tonight was a nice and easy throwing motion, so we were pleased with what we saw even if the results weren't ideal.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosTuesday 5/20, 9:31 AM CT
As previously reported, Roy Oswalt will make his scheduled start on Thursday, according to the Houston Chronicle. Oswalt threw between 25-30 pitches off flat ground Monday. After he was examined by Dr. Dave Lintner, the Astros stated Oswalt will start Thursday against Philadelphia at Minute Maid Park. Oswalt said, "I didn't throw hard or nothing. I'll see how I feel tomorrow. I'm going to try to throw tomorrow some and go from there. It's not a muscle so that's a good thing. I think it's just inflamed more than anything." He is nursing a strained right groin.

Our View: Oswalt had groin issues in 2001 and in 2003, and needed surgery after the 2003 season. He states his latest tenderness isn't in the groin but closer to the hip area. You can start him this week, but he will be a risky play, as he is only 4-4 with a 5.43 ERA and 1.43 WHIP, and could be hindered at some point by the ailment.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosMonday 5/19, 7:51 PM CT
Roy Oswalt tested his injured hip by throwing off flat ground on Monday and he pronounced himself fit to start on Thursday, according to MLB.com. "It's not a muscle strain, so that's a good thing," he said. "I think it's more of a tendon ... I think it's just inflamed more than anything."

Our View: Oswalt was relieved when it became clear it was a hip problem and not a groin issue since he has had trouble in the past with the groin. Starting Oswalt this week isn't for the faint of hear, but it looks like he will be out there to face the Phillies on Thursday.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosSunday 5/18, 2:50 PM CT
Updating a report from earlier today, the Houston Astros are now listing RHP Roy Oswalt as a man suffering from a hip injury and are attempt to determine if he will be held from his next scheduled start, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: Earlier today we reported an apparent disagreement in which Oswalt claimed he felt he had suffered some kind of groin injury and wanted to come out after the sixth inning, but coaches urged him back to the mound in the seventh after which he called for his own medical attention from the mound after just five pitches. Oswalt told reporters today he is unsure if he will be able to pitch in his next scheduled start on Thursday against Philadelphia.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosSunday 5/18, 8:08 AM CT
Houston RHP Roy Oswalt walked off the mound following the sixth inning on Saturday night, 105 pitches into his start and claiming a distinct point of concern in his groin. Oswalt describes it as a "twinge," but more importantly, he spoke of pitching coach Dewey Robinson's instance that he return to the mound in the seventh, according to the Houston Chronicle.

Our View: Oswalt told reporters he was more than clear that he felt he might need attention from the trainer and was done, but Robinson had other plans. "I told them I thought that was it," said Oswalt. "They wanted me to go one more." That led to manager Cecil Cooper telling reporters, "He just said he thought he could go back out for the seventh." In the end, Oswalt returned to the mound, threw five pitches, and then summoned medical staff himself and went limping off the mound. We will update with news of his injury as it comes.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosSaturday 5/17, 10:09 PM CT
Roy Oswalt, who reportedly was pitching hurt, left in the seventh after allowing consecutive singles and throwing 111 pitches. Oswalt was hit hard for most of the night allowing six runs on 11 hits, waling one and striking out only one.

Our View: If in fact Oswalt was pitching with an injured groin, he was doing so from the first inning on. The right-handed veteran three outs in the first inning were all hard hit line-drives.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosWednesday 5/7, 10:36 PM CT
Houston RHP Roy Oswalt wasn't as dominating as normal and resulted in a no-decision, but his effort was strong nonetheless as the Astros put the 4-3 win over the Washington Nationals on the board. Oswalt pitched seven innings, allowing three runs on six hits with two walks and nine strike outs on the evening.

Our View: It brings Oswalt to a surprising 5.33 ERA, though he now has three wins and two no-decisions in his last five starts.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosThursday 4/24, 4:58 PM CT
Roy Oswalt isn't going anywhere despite rumors that he might be traded even though he possesses a no-trade clause, just ask him. "I don't know where that came from," Oswalt said, according to MLB.com. GM Ed Wade seconded that feeling. "I haven't had any discussions with any of our players that have no-trade clauses," Wade said.

Our View: Oswalt has had a rough start to the year, but over his last two starts he is 2-0 while allowing only four runs, so he seems to have turned around whatever ailed him in the early going.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosMonday 4/21, 10:24 PM CT
Roy Oswalt continued his comeback from a horrible start to the season by allowing three runs over seven innings against the Padres to pick up the win. Oswalt allowed six hits and two walks with six K on the night.

Our View: Oswalt allowed two more home runs on the night, that's a whopping seven through five starts, and it's the major reason his ERA still stands at 6.00 on the year.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosWednesday 4/16, 8:35 PM CT
Roy Oswalt found his lost mojo on Wednesday night as he was able to limit the Phillies to just one run over seven inning to pick up his first victory of the season for the Astros.

Our View: Oswalt limited the best offense in the NL to only five hits and two walks on the night as he finally looked like the perrenial all-star he is and not the batting practice pitcher he had been in his first three starts.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosWednesday 4/16, 2:16 PM CT
At 0-3, Roy Oswalt is still looking for his first win of the season, according to MLB.com. It could come tonight as he takes the hill against Philadelphia, a team that Oswalt is 5-1 against over his career.

Our View: He will square off with Kyle Kendrick, who is 1-1 with a 6.14 ERA. He will be favored to finally nail down a win tonight.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosMonday 4/14, 9:55 AM CT
Roy Oswalt is feeling completely healthy and is pleased with his velocity, despite a 0-3 start, according to the Houston Chronicle. He commented, "My arm feels good. I'm just a little low on my arm. I'm not getting really good tilt on my pitches. Everything is staying flat, from the mound all the way to the plate. It felt better Sunday in the bullpen."

Our View: This is favorable news for those who are concerned about his 0-3 start. Hopefully he will bounce back in his next start.
Roy Oswalt, P, Houston AstrosFriday 4/11, 11:27 PM CT
Roy Oswalt was beaten around the park for eight runs in just four inning on Friday night as he fell to 0-3 on the year. Oswalt has now allowed 16 runs in 16 innings in quite possibly his worst three game stretch of his career. Oswalt has allowed 30 hits in those 16 innings and we have to think that he is hiding some injury, it's the only explanation for this poor of a performance.

Roy Oswalt said he has a big black mark on his right hip as a result of being hit with a Kevin Kouzmanoff line drive on Monday, but he doesn't expect it to keep him from making his next start on Saturday. "It's not broken, so I should be able to pitch with it," he said on MLB.com. The righty said he felt pain the first few innings after being hit, but that it had nothing to do with his un-Oswalt-like performance (5 1/3 innings, three runs, 11 hits). "It has a mark on it, but it should be fine," he said. "I've been hit before. And I don't like it when the batters complain when they get hit." Oswalt should be good to go Saturday, though he has a tough matchup in Chicago.
