Jason Smith, 2B, Houston AstrosFriday 5/22, 10:05 AM CT
The Astros have designated Jason Smith for assignment and recalled Edwin Maysonet, according to MLBlogs.com.

Our View: Smith is still hitless this season in 25 at-bats, so the team decided to give Maysonet a try as a utility infielder. Smith is expected to land in Triple-A Round Rock yet again.
Jason Smith, 2B, Houston AstrosSunday 5/10, 2:16 PM CT
MLBTradeRumors.com is reporting that the Astros have re-signed Jason Smith. He was designated for assignment four days ago, cleared waivers, and elected free agency.

Our View: Smith was brought back to provide some insurance for Lance Berkman, who is suffering from an injured wrist. Smith holds no fantasy value, and is 0-for-21 on the season at this point.

Jason Smith has been outrighted to Triple-A Round Rock by the Astros, according to TSN. He was designated for assignment earlier in the week.

Our View: The 31-year-old infielder did not register a hit over 21 at-bats with the Astros, and struck out eight times. He did not hold any fantasy value.

After going 0-for-21 to start the season, Jason Smith has been designated for assignment, according to the Houston Chronicle.

Our View: Smith was just taking up space on the Astros roster. He does not figure to have any fantasy value anytime soon.
Jason Smith, 2B, Houston AstrosFriday 4/17, 8:15 AM CT
Jason Smith returned to the Astros on Thursday after being away from the team for two days for personal reasons, according to the Houston Chronicle.

Our View: Smith and Darin Erstad are the Astros' only two position players yet to start a game this season. Smith is hitless over six at-bats, with four strikeouts.
Jason Smith, 2B, Houston AstrosThursday 4/2, 9:15 AM CT
Jason Smith has made the Astros as a reserve infielder, according to the Houston Chronicle.

Our View: The 31-year-old vet was competing with Edwin Maysonet for the spot. Smith should not hold any value outside of deeper NL-only leagues.
Jason Smith, 2B, Houston AstrosMonday 3/30, 8:07 AM CT
Jason Smith performed well with his glove in Sunday's game, according to the Houston Chronicle. Skipper Cecil Cooper said, "It was the first game in quite a while he had not gotten any hits (he went 0-for-4 at the plate), but he made some real nice defensive plays. It gives (Smith) a little bit of an edge."

Our View: Edwin Maysonet was unable to play with a sore back, and Smith is considered the favorite among the two to win a reserve spot in the infield.
Jason Smith, 2B, Houston AstrosSaturday 3/21, 8:49 AM CT
Jason Smith is competing with Edwin Maysonet for the utility role in the Astros' infield, according to the Houston Chronicle. Skipper Cecil Cooper said, "In my mind right now, it is a two-man race at this point. I think there are two guys (Maysonet and Smith) that have kind of separated themselves a little bit, and primarily because they are both shortstops." Tommy Manzella was in the race prior to being sent to Triple-A Round Rock.

Our View: Smith is considered the favorite for the role, but the winner will only hold value for deeper NL-only leagues.
Jason Smith, 2B, Houston AstrosMonday 1/5, 4:48 PM CT
Jason Smith inked a minor league deal with the Astros on Monday, according to the Astros' official web site.

Our View: Smith hit .214 with two doubles and one RBI in 22 games for the Royals last season. The infielder started the season at Triple-A and in 110 games for Omaha, he hit .253 with 20 doubles, seven triples and 62 RBIs.
Jason Smith, 2B, Houston AstrosFriday 12/12, 12:42 PM CT
Jason Smith has been designated for assignment by the Royals, according to the Kansas City Star.

Our View: The Royals made the move to clear space on their 40-man roster for lefty hurler Horacio Ramirez. The 31-year-old infielder was merely organizational depth at this point of his career.

Jason Smith was claimed off waivers by the Royals on Wednesday. According to the team's official website, the former Diamondback will join the Royals on Friday in Cleveland, replacing infielder Fernando Cortez on the active roster. Jason Smith, 2B, Houston AstrosMonday 5/28, 6:36 AM CT
Jason Smith was designated for assignment by the Diamondbacks on May 19. However, the paperwork wasn't sent to the league office until the following Monday, the same day that Smith's appendix burst, according to the Arizona Republic. Since rules state that an injured player can't be outrighted, traded or released, he must be placed on the disabled list. That means that until Smith is healthy, the Diamondbacks will have to pay him to stay on the DL for the next few weeks.
Jason Smith, 2B, Houston AstrosSunday 5/20, 6:27 AM CT
Jason Smith was designated for assignment on Saturday, so the Diamondbacks could activate Alberto Callaspo from the suspended list. He spent only two games with the club after being claimed off waivers from the Blue Jays. He's a Rule 5 pick from the Cubs, so he could end up back there if he's not claimed and the Diamondbacks don't send him to Triple-A Tucson.
