Geoff Blum, 3B, Houston AstrosFriday 10/30, 5:51 PM CT
Geoff Blum has inked a one-year deal with Houston for 2010 worth $1.5MM, according to MLB beat writer Brian McTaggart's twitter page. The deal includes a mutual option for 2011 worth $1.65MM.

Our View: The veteran infielder will turn 37 in April and only batted .247 in 2009, but the Astros like his defensive skills as a utility man.
Geoff Blum, 3B, Houston AstrosFriday 10/2, 9:53 PM CT
Geoff Blum went 0-for-3 with an RBI in tonight's 7-1 loss at New York.

Our View: The Astros only had six hits in the game, and Blum was their lone source of scoring. He snapped a four-game skid without an RBI, and needs one more for 50.
Geoff Blum, 3B, Houston AstrosWednesday 9/9, 9:07 PM CT
Geoff Blum was forced to leave the team's game against the Braves in the third inning with a right leg contusion, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: The injury sounds remotely serious, so don't expect him back any time soon. Not that you need him for your fantasy lineup.
Geoff Blum, 3B, Houston AstrosThursday 8/27, 11:47 AM CT
According to Brian McTaggart on Twitter, Geoff Blum is heading back to Houston to have his ailing shoulder examined.

Our View: Blum was scratched from Wednesday's game against the Cardinals with shoulder spasms. No word on whether a DL stint is looming, but at 36, Blum is no spring chicken. We'll know more after his visit to the doc.
Geoff Blum, 3B, Houston AstrosSaturday 8/22, 9:57 PM CT
Geoff Blum went 2-for-4 with a double, a run scored, and an RBI in the Astros' 4-2 win on Saturday. Blum is hitting .263 on the season.

Our View: Blum has had a big month of August, and he has been making the most of his playing time as of late. He still isn't much of a fantasy threat, but he has been big for the Astros over he past few weeks.
Geoff Blum, 3B, Houston AstrosSunday 8/16, 7:08 PM CT
Geoff Blum went 2-for-5, cracked a three-run homer and drove in four runners in the Astros' 8-5 win over the Brewers on Sunday.

Our View: Blum only has nine homers this season, but has already hit four in August. He's also driven in ten this month and has his season total up to 44. Not bad for a guy who doesn't play every day.
Geoff Blum, 3B, Houston AstrosSunday 8/9, 4:09 PM CT
Geoff Blum led the Astros offensively in Sunday's 2-0 win over the Brewers at Minute Maid Park, as he went 2-for-4 with a single and a two-run homer off Yovani Gallardo.

Our View: Blum has two hits in two of his last three games, and launched his second homer of August. He is worth a look for NL-only leagues while working as a starting corner infielder with Houston.
Geoff Blum, 3B, Houston AstrosMonday 7/6, 10:10 PM CT
Geoff Blum went 1-for-3 with a two-RBI triple on Monday.

Our View: Blum has put together a nice little five-game hit streak. He's a far from impressive major league hitter, but he'll continue to play every day for Houston, usually toward the middle of the lineup, which alone gives him value in NL-only leagues.
Geoff Blum, 3B, Houston AstrosThursday 7/2, 6:29 PM CT
Geoff Blum had a huge game on Thursday, driving in four runs on two hits, including a home run. Houston beat the Padres 7-2 in San Diego amidst a swarm of bees.

Our View: Blum has occasional bursts of offense like he did on Thursday, but is not a solid option in any format.
Geoff Blum, 3B, Houston AstrosSaturday 6/27, 11:22 PM CT
Houston activated Geoff Blum (hamstring) from the DL on Saturday, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Blum was hitting .270 with one home run and 18 RBI in 49 games before hitting the DL and cannot be looked at as a viable fantasy option in all but the deepest of NL-only leagues without bringing much of anything to the table besides empty at-bats.
Geoff Blum, 3B, Houston AstrosThursday 6/25, 11:29 AM CT
According to the Houston Chronicle, Geoff Blum is expected to begin his two game rehab stint with Triple-A Round Rock on Thursday. Blum is recovering from a strained left hamstring.

Our View: Assuming all goes well, Blum will play his two games at Round Rock and rejoin the team early next week. He is not much of a fantasy option, but he should help the Astros by providing some quality depth off the bench.
Geoff Blum, 3B, Houston AstrosWednesday 6/24, 8:45 AM CT
The Houston Chronicle reports that Geoff Blum (hamstring) took some cuts in a simulated game and felt no pain.

Our View: Blum is eying Sunday as the day he returns to the lineup, but he'll need a rehab assignment first to get his timing down. He's a solid guy off the bench for the Stros, but isn't worth owning in fantasy leagues.
Geoff Blum, 3B, Houston AstrosMonday 6/22, 10:14 AM CT
Geoff Blum ran on Sunday for the first time since being placed on the disabled list on June 16 with a strained left hamstring, and is hopeful of beginning a minor league rehab assignment this Thursday, according to the Houston Chronicle.

Our View: Blum has been a good utility bat for the Astros this season, batting .270 in 152 at-bats, but isn't worth owning in any fantasy format when he comes off the DL.
Geoff Blum, 3B, Houston AstrosTuesday 6/16, 11:12 PM CT
Geoff Blum has been placed on the 15-day disabled list according to the Associated Press.

Our View: Blum has been nursing a sore hamstring for days now, so this comes as little surprise. The career reserve is a having a decent year in 2009, but is still not a viable fantasy option.
Geoff Blum, 3B, Houston AstrosMonday 6/15, 9:14 AM CT

Geoff Blum, 3B, Houston AstrosThursday 6/11, 5:21 PM CT

Our View: It was Blum's second straight game winning RBI. Despite the heroics, however, Blum is not a viable fantasy option in any format.
Geoff Blum, 3B, Houston AstrosWednesday 6/10, 11:21 PM CT
Geoff Blum accounted for both RBI in Wednesday's 2-1 win over the Cubs. His two RBI single in the bottom of the ninth was his only hit in four at bats.

Our View: Blum has lost most of his playing time to Jeff Keppinger, but he's still usually in the lineup a few times per week. Unfortunately that is not enough for him to make much of a fantasy impact.
Geoff Blum, 3B, Houston AstrosThursday 5/28, 7:44 AM CT
Geoff Blum was out of the lineup for the third straight game Wednesday while nursing a strained left hamstring, according to the Houston Chronicle.

Geoff Blum exited Sunday's game with a strained left hamstring, according to the Houston Chronicle. He said, "In my third at-bat when I took that swing, I felt it. It bit pretty good, and it hurts."

Our View: Blum will be re-evaluated today. Skipper Cecil Cooper estimates him missing 2-3 days. Edwin Maysonet replaced Blum in the lineup Sunday, and could see more action while Blum is recovering.
Geoff Blum, 3B, Houston AstrosTuesday 3/31, 8:21 AM CT
Geoff Blum could start at third base on opening day with Aaron Boone out for the season following heart surgery and with Chris Johnson still on the bubble, according to the Houston Chronicle. Blum said, "There is an outside chance. I am not going to believe it until I see my name in my lineup or they give me the OK, but by the process of elimination."

Our View: Blum is a switch-hitter and was slated to serve in a platoon role with Boone before it was determined he needed surgery. Blum is worth a look as a reserve for NL-only leagues.
Geoff Blum, 3B, Houston AstrosThursday 3/19, 2:25 PM CT

Our View: Skipper Cecil Cooper hopes Blum will play Friday, and is not concerned with the ailment.
Geoff Blum, 3B, Houston AstrosThursday 2/19, 9:22 AM CT
Geoff Blum has returned to camp after dealing with flu-like symptoms, according to the Houston Chronicle.

Our View: The 35-year-old vet will be competing for the starting gig at third base following the departure of Ty Wigginton, and would be worth a look as a reserve for NL-only leagues if he wins the job.
Geoff Blum, 3B, Houston AstrosTuesday 9/2, 11:45 PM CT
Geoff Blum was hitless in four at-bats before coming up in the 11th inning, when he hit a two-run home run off of Cubs closer Kerry Wood that wound up being the difference in the Astros 9-7 win over Chicago.

Our View: Blum has 14 home runs, but his average is .230, and his on-base percentage is well below .300, so he has minimal fantasy value.
Geoff Blum, 3B, Houston AstrosWednesday 8/20, 6:15 PM CT
Geoff Blum needs just one more plate appearance to ensure him $1.2 million for next season, according to Astros.com. Blum needed 250 plate appearances on the season for his contract for 2009 to be guaranteed, and he presently has 249.

Our View: That's nice for Blum, though we're not sure how the Astros feel about it. His 12 home runs are solid, but he is hitting .229 and has a putrid .269 on-base percentage.
Geoff Blum, 3B, Houston AstrosTuesday 8/19, 10:16 PM CT
The Astros pulled the 5-2 win over Ben Sheets and the Milwaukee Brewers this evening, an effort led by shortstop Geoff Blum. Blum went 1-for-3 at the dish, hitting his 12th home run of the season to total three RBIs and one runs scored on the night.

Our View: Blum hit just .196 last month but totaled four homers with 11 RBIs. Thus far in August he touts an improved average, .263, with three homers and 11 RBIs, and we still have a couple of weeks to go.

Geoff Blum, 3B, Houston AstrosWednesday 7/9, 9:37 PM CT
The Astros used the bat to get the 6-4 win against the Pirates this evening with shortstop Geoff Blum serving as the leader of the cause. Blum went just 1-for-5 at the dish, but the one hit was his sixth homer of the season, good for three RBIs.

Our View: Blum is being used in spot action, though his offensive numbers have failed to impress. Tonight is one of few blips on his fantasy resume this season.
Geoff Blum, 3B, Houston AstrosWednesday 6/11, 9:41 AM CT
The Houston Chronicle reports that Astros manager Cecil Cooper said Tuesday that Geoff Blum would get more playing time at third base. However, Cooper wouldn't go so far as to say Blum is now in a platoon situation with starter Ty Wigginton. "He is swinging the bat well, especially the last few games he's played," Cooper said of Blum.

Our View: Blum has hit .500 as a pinch hitter and Cooper hopes the hot bat translates into the starting lineup.
