Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsWednesday 11/4, 7:43 PM CT
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch is reporting that the Cardinals have opened contract talks with outfielder Matt Holliday. The team reportedly opened discussions with a six-year, $98 million deal.

Our View: These talks are just preliminary, but that doesn't appear to be nearly enough to lock Holliday up. Scott Boras has said he will use Mark Teixeira's eight-year, $180 million as a benchmark, so the Cards better get that offer increased if they want to keep the slugger.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsSunday 10/18, 2:16 PM CT
Newsday reports that "somebody in the loop" with Matt Holliday says the slugging outfielder's top two choices in free agency are the New York Yankees and Mets.

Our View: It's not surprising that a New York paper says Holliday's top two choices are both teams in New York, but they are definitely two of the only clubs that will be able to pay him if he is determined to pursue top dollar. Consider this the first of many Holliday hot stove updates.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsThursday 10/8, 8:33 PM CT
Matt Holliday gave the Cardinals an early lead with a solo home run in the second inning off of Clayton Kershaw on Thursday, but made a devastating error in the ninth, dropping a James Loney fly-ball with two outs. The flub gave the Dodgers a runner at second base in a 2-1 game, and they made the Cardinals pay, plating two runs for a 3-2 win.

Our View: It was an awful play made by a usually solid left-fielder. Few people in sports know what Holliday is going through right now, and hopefully for the Cardinals, the disappointment doesn't carry over to game three on Saturday.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsTuesday 9/29, 4:14 PM CT
According to the St. Louis Post Dispatch, Matt Holliday is in Tuesday's lineup against the Reds.

Our View: Holliday has been suffering from a chest cold and missed Sunday's contest against the Rockies. He claims he could have played if it was vital to the team, but with the Cards already having clinched the division there was no reason to push him. After two days of rest he has a clean bill of health and will head back to the diamond in Cincinnati. Make sure to get him back in fantasy lineups.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsMonday 9/28, 9:14 AM CT
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch is reporting that Cardinals' outfielder Matt Holliday was out of Sunday's game due to a chest cold. Holliday said that he could have played if they game had the game been of vital importance to the team.

Our View: With the Cards clinching a playoff birth on Saturday, there was no reason for Holliday to push it on Sunday. He should return to the lineup this week as the Cards try to position themselves for home-field advantage in the playoffs.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsSunday 9/27, 1:45 PM CT
Matt Holliday is out of the Cardinals lineup on Sunday.

Our View: Ryan Ludwick will start in his place in left field as he receives the day off.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsSunday 9/20, 11:36 PM CT
Matt Holliday reached base three times on Sunday in the Cardinals' 6-2 extra-innings loss to the Cubs. Holliday was 1-for-2 with two walks and a run scored.

Our View: Holliday continues to produce in a Cardinal uniform, an even when he doesn't hit for power he finds a way to impact the game. If he continues to get on base behind Pujols, the Cards will have plenty of opportunities to score runs.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsFriday 9/18, 11:13 PM CT
Matt Holliday went 1-for-4 with a solo homer off Aaron Heilman in Friday's 3-2 win over the Cubs at Busch Stadium.

Our View: Holliday crushed his 24th homer of 2009, and his 13th with the Cardinals. He has 17 RBI over 16 games in September as well.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsFriday 9/18, 2:38 PM CT
According to the Twitter page of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch's Bernie Miklasz, Cardinals' GM John Mozeliak said that the team has table all contract negotiations with potential free agents until after the season. Matt Holliday, Mark DeRosa, and Joel Pineiro are the biggest names that will be free agents after this season.

Our View: The Cards will have plenty of decisions to make after the season is over, but this shows that the team, from the players to the front office, is concerned about winning this season and don't want negotiations to get in the way. It doesn't seem likely that all of those players will be back, but expect some combination to return in 2010.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsSaturday 9/12, 6:41 PM CT
Matt Holliday went 1-for-5 with his 43rd Cardinal RBI on Saturday, but also stranded four runners, as St. Louis lost 7-6 to the Braves at home.

Our View: He is now batting "just" .373 in St. Louis. For the whole season, he is hitting .315 with 23 home runs and 97 RBI.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsFriday 9/11, 5:06 PM CT
Matt Holliday is penciled into Friday's lineup against the Braves, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Our View: Holliday has been nursing a bruised knee, but the elite outfielder should be fine for fantasy duty.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsThursday 9/10, 8:15 AM CT
According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Cardinal outfielder Matt Holliday is expected to play Friday when the team resumes action. Holliday left Wednesday's game with a bruised knee.

Our View: The injury was never believed to be serious, so this comes as no surprise. Holliday's knee swelled up a bit yesterday after he tripped and fell, but it isn't anything that would cause him to miss any time.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsWednesday 9/9, 2:32 PM CT
According to Matthew Leach on Twitter, Cardinals slugger Matt Holliday exited Wednesday's game against the Brewers with a bruised left knee.

Our View: No word on the seriousness of the injury, but rest assured fantasy owners and everyone in Cardinal Nation will be holding their collective breath. More info to come.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsTuesday 9/8, 10:42 PM CT
Matt Holliday provided more dramatics for the St. Louis Cardinals on Tuesday night, crushing a two-run homer off of Brewers' closer and all-time saves leader Trevor Hoffman in the ninth inning, leading the Redbirds to a come-from-behind 4-3 victory in Milwaukee.

Our View: Holliday now has 41 RBI in 42 games with St. Louis, and has been Sabathia-esque in the boost he's provided to the club down the stretch.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsTuesday 9/1, 10:36 PM CT
Matt Holliday gave the Cardinals their fourth straight win with one swing of the bat Tuesday. His three-run homer in the seventh inning gave the Cardinals an eventual 7-6 win over the Brewers.

Our View: Holliday was 2-for-4 on the night and now has 35 RBI in 35 games since joining the Cardinals and is a huge factor in their recent surge that has opened up the biggest division lead (ten games) in all of baseball.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsSaturday 8/29, 9:17 PM CT
Matt Holliday clubbed his eighth home run as a Cardinal on Saturday night, helping the Redbirds to a 9-4 win over the Nationals at home.

Our View: After finally enduring a bit of a slump in a Cardinals' uniform, Holliday has now homered in two of his past three games, and still sporting a gaudy .376 St. Louis average.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsThursday 8/27, 4:07 PM CT
Matt Holliday hit his seventh home run as a member of the St. Louis Cardinals on Thursday, but the Cards would still end up falling 4-3 to Houston at home.

Our View: Holliday has been in a bit of a funk the past few days, going just two for his last 13, but he was bound to hit the skids for at least a few days after his incredible St. Louis start. Don't expect his slump to last long.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsThursday 8/27, 12:01 PM CT
During a radio interview with KSLG 1380 AM in St. Louis on Thursday morning, Matt Holliday stated that he's hoping to remain with the Cardinals after this season and work out a long-term deal.

Our View: Holliday has been an absolute beast since coming to St. Louis and he and the Cardinals are riding a bullet train into October, so it's no surprise that he would want to stick around. He apparently called the atmosphere in the Gateway City "second to none" and was excited about the idea of a Pujols-Holliday era. Still, he's represented by Scott Boras and likely won't give the Cardinals their typical "hometown discount" they constantly coax out of free agents. Since wearing the Birds on the Bat, Holliday is hitting .386 with six homers and 28 RBI in just 30 games.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsSunday 8/23, 12:08 AM CT
Matt Holliday stayed hot on Saturday as the Cardinals blanked the Padres 7-0. Holliday went 2-for-3 with a home run, a run scored, and three RBI in the game.

Our View: Holliday looks like the player we saw in Colorado two years ago, and he has experienced a rebirth since being traded to St. Louis. With Holliday and Albert Pujols in the middle of the lineup, the Cards have opened an eight game lead in the division.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsSaturday 8/15, 10:20 PM CT
Matt Holliday had another strong outing in Saturday's 7-4 win over the Padres at Busch Stadium, as he went 1-for-5 with a two-run homer off Tim Stauffer.

Our View: Holliday extended his hitting streak to eight games, and is batting .412 in August, with four homers and 14 RBI. He should continue to perform up to high standards as an elite outfielder with St. Louis.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsFriday 8/14, 10:39 PM CT
Matt Holliday turned in his third straight thee-hit effort for the Cardinals on Friday night, helping the Birds on Bat crush the Padres 9-2 at home.

Our View: Where to begin. Since coming to St. Louis, the elite left fielder is hitting .493 in 19 games, has five games with three hits or more, 12 muli-hit efforts and 20 RBI. So much for only being able to hit in Coors Field. The Cardinals are 13-6 since acquiring him from Oakland.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsWednesday 8/12, 10:09 PM CT
Matt Holliday continued his ludicrous hitting for the Cardinals on Wednesday night, going 3-for-4 with an RBI as the Redbirds beat the Reds 5-2 at home.

Our View: Holliday is now batting an absurd .486 in 18 games in St. Louis, and has easily been the best player in baseball since his arrival. Expect that fact to equal a big time payday this offseason.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsTuesday 8/11, 10:55 PM CT
Matt Holliday went 3-for-5 on Tuesday, but also struck out twice, including looking in the ninth inning to end the game, as the Cards lost to the Reds 5-4 at home.

Our View: Holliday is still batting an absurd .470 in a Cardinals uniform (17 games), however, and is once again an elite option in the outfield.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsMonday 8/10, 10:20 PM CT
Matt Holliday helped lead the Cardinals in tonight's 4-1 win over Cincinnati at Busch Stadium, as he went 1-for-3 with a triple and an RBI.

Our View: Holliday has a hit in four straight games, with five RBI over the span. He should continue to perform up to high expectations as an elite outfielder with St. Louis.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsFriday 8/7, 8:45 PM CT
Matt Holliday did it all for the Cardinals on Friday night in Pittsburgh. The slugging left-fielder hit a two-run first inning home run, and stole a base, advanced on an error and scored the game winning run on a sacrifice fly in the eighth. The Cardinals won 6-4.

Our View: Holliday has simply been a revelation since coming to the Cardinals. He's batting .460 in his first 13 games with the team, and now has four home runs, 13 RBI and two steals.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsSaturday 8/1, 8:42 PM CT
Matt Holliday went 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored in tonight's 3-1 win over Houston at Busch Stadium. He hit a single and a pair of solo homers.

Our View: Holliday now has three homers and 10 RBI over nine games with the Cardinals. As expected, the elite outfielder is benefiting from a return to the NL following his trade out of Oakland.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsFriday 7/31, 10:23 PM CT
Matt Holliday went 4-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored in tonight's 4-3 win over Houston at Busch Stadium. He hit a double and three singles.

Our View: Holliday has a hit in 10 straight games, with nine RBI over the span. He is performing up to his billing as an elite outfielder right now.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsThursday 7/30, 11:14 PM CT
Matt Holliday went 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored in tonight's 5-3 loss to the Dodgers at Busch Stadium.

Our View: Holliday launched his first homer with St. Louis, and is batting .520 over seven games (25 at-bats). He is benefiting from a return to the NL.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsMonday 7/27, 12:11 PM CT
The Cardinals fully intend to try to sign recently acquired Matt Holliday to a contract extension, according to Sports Illustrated's Jon Heyman.

Our View: This will be very hard for many reasons, namely Holliday is represented by Scott Boras, St. Louis isn't known for doling out huge contracts and an Albert Pujols extension is looming. Still, Holliday has traditionally been a great hitter in St. Louis, is said to love it and went 7-for-11 with four doubles and three RBI in his first three games with the club. For the steep prospect price they paid for him, though, the club will likely go all out, including big money, to keep him.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsFriday 7/24, 10:03 PM CT
Matt Holliday had a strong debut with the Cardinals in tonight's 8-1 win at Philadelphia, as he went 4-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored. He hit a double and three singles.

Our View: Skipper Tony LaRussa got his wish of acquiring Holliday, and he did not disappoint in his first battle with the club. The elite outfielder is already benefitting from a return to the NL as well.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsFriday 7/24, 3:55 PM CT
Matt Holliday has already joined the Cardinals in Philadelphia, and will play left field and bat cleanup vs. the Phillies tonight, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Our View: Well, that didn't take long. He'll be batting behind Albert Pujols and playing in a hitter friendly ballpark, so whatever hesitations you may have about playing someone on a day they have gone through the whirlwind of being traded should not preclude you from putting him in your starting lineup.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsFriday 7/24, 12:02 PM CT
According to Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Cards manager Tony La Russa has said that, "if he gets here, he plays," when asked if Matt Holliday would be in the Cardinals lineup tonight in Philadelphia.

Our View: So, yes, the Cardinals have every intention of getting Holliday into the lineup as soon as possible. There is of course a decent chance he might not get there in time, but unless you have a very good alternative, there is no reason to bench the recently traded slugger for tonight's game.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsFriday 7/24, 11:24 AM CT
ESPN.com is reporting that the St. Louis Cardinals have finalized a deal that will send prospects Brett Wallace, Clayton Mortensen, and Shane Peterson to Oakland in exchange for outfielder Matt Holliday and cash. The cash total is expected to be $1.5 million to help offset some of Holliday's remaining contract.

Our View: This deal has been reported to be close all day, but now it is officially done. Holliday should slot in behind Albert Pujols in the Cards' order, and it would seem that his numbers will see a steady increase hitting in between two very good hitters in Pujols and Ryan Ludwick. Holliday owners should be jumping for joy now that Holliday is out of Oakland and into a much better lineup.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsFriday 7/24, 10:36 AM CT
The Oakland A's and St. Louis Cardinals are apparently almost done with a deal that would send Matt Holliday to St. Louis for prized hitting prospect Brett Wallace, pitcher Clayton Mortensen and outfielder Shane Peterson, according to ESPN.

Our View: Wow. The Cardinals are officially going for broke. Wallace is one of the top hitting prospects in the game, while Holliday is a free agent at season's end. He has also been having a down year by his standards, hitting .286 with just 11 home runs. He is having a big July, however, batting .344 with three home runs. The Cardinals have to now officially be considered the favorites in the tight National League Central.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsThursday 7/23, 5:34 PM CT
Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports has been told that the A's and Tigers could not agree on a deal involving Matt Holliday.

Our View: The Athletics gave the Tigers a list of prospects they would want in exchange for the elite outfielder, but discussions did not move forward. The Tigers' farm system is thin right now, and cannot afford to let their top prospects go.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsThursday 7/23, 10:18 AM CT
According to the San Francisco Chronicle, the Cardinals have shown renewed interest in acquiring A's outfielder Matt Holliday.

Our View: The Cardinals are still looking for an impact bat to help beef up their anemic offense and they currently have a hole in left field. Holliday fits, and the Cards are apparently becoming more comfortable with Oakland's asking price. It would take monster hitting prospect, Brett Wallace, which means the Cards would likely be out of the Roy Halladay sweepstakes should they make this deal. A more affordable option (and possibly the only other one) would be Washington's Josh Willingham. Stay tuned, as Holliday continues to garner interest and it will only increase as July 31st draws nearer.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsSaturday 7/18, 6:55 PM CT
Matt Holliday was productive in Saturday's 11-6 loss to the Angels at McAfee Coliseum, as he went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored. He hit a single and a double.

Our View: He made his fourth fielding error of the season, but helped make up for it with a solid outing at the plate. Holliday is hitting .312 (15-for-48) so far this month, and has two RBI in two of his last three games.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsThursday 7/16, 11:49 PM CT
Matt Holliday was productive in tonight's 6-2 loss to the Angels at McAfee Coliseum, as he went 1-for-3 with a solo homer and two RBI.

Our View: Holliday ended a 33-game drought without a homer, and only has nine for the season. His power numbers have suffered while leaving launching pad Coors Field for pitcher-friendly McAfee Coliseum.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsThursday 7/16, 12:03 PM CT
Phil Rogers of the Chicago Tribune is reporting that the St. Louis Cardinals are talking to the Oakland A's about the possibility of acquiring outfielder Matt Holliday. The Cardinals have been linked to Holliday for much of the season.

Our View: Rogers didn't give much information other than the fact that the Cardinals are discussing Holliday, so take this for what it is worth. After making a trade for Mark DeRosa already, it seems unlikely the Cards will pull off another trade unless they can get Holliday for a reasonable deal. We will keep you updated if anything else surfaces.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsTuesday 7/14, 11:08 AM CT
Michael Urban of MLB.com is reporting that there have been ongoing trade talks between the Oakland A's and Atlanta Braves on a deal that would send Matt Holliday and Orlando Cabrera to Atlanta for Yunel Escobar and prospects. Urban notes that the A's would probably have to take on a big part of Holliday's contract to get the deal done.

Our View: If there's one thing the A's aren't all about, it is taking on part of a contract. This deal seems like a long shot, but it may be something to keep an eye on as the deadline gets closer. Don't be shocked if Holliday remains an Athletic for the rest of the season.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsMonday 6/29, 11:54 PM CT
Matt Holliday went 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored in tonight's 7-1 win over the Tigers at McAfee Coliseum. Both of his hits were singles.

Our View: Holliday extended his hitting streak to seven games, but only has one RBI over the span with the struggling Athletics. He continues to lead the club with 40 RBI for the season.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsSaturday 6/27, 11:43 AM CT
According to the St. Louis Post Dispatch, the Cardinals have turned up the heat and are pushing hard to get a deal done for A's slugger Matt Holliday.

Our View: The Cardinals offense has been stagnant since April ended and the team is desperately looking for some protection in the lineup for Albert Pujols. Holliday would be a great fit and ownership is apparently on board. A deal would likely include Ryan Ludwick, Chris Perez or Jason Motte and a prospect. The Cards likely feel that they could lock up Holliday long term, as the organization rarely goes after rent-a-players. In an added bonus for the Cardinals, he rakes at Busch stadium.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsTuesday 6/16, 12:18 PM CT
ESPN.com's Buster Olney is reporting that A's slugger Matt Holliday may be more likely to be traded due to the high cost of arbitration. Holliday is unlikely to get more than the $16-18 million he would be in line for if the team offered him arbitration, and the A's are unlikely to devote that much money to one player.

Our View: All of the speculation that the A's don't need to move Holliday because of the draft picks they will receive if they offer him arbitration and he signs with another team seems to be dwindling now. It is starting to look like the A's will need to move Holliday before the deadline if they want to get any return for him. There are plenty of teams looking for a big outfield bat, and Holliday may be back on the market now.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsFriday 6/12, 11:56 PM CT
Matt Holliday went 2-for-3 in Friday's 3-0 loss at San Francisco. Both of his knocks were singles.

Our View: Holliday is hitting .325 (13-for-40) so far in June after only hitting .291 in May. He still leads the A's with 37 RBI for the season as well.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsTuesday 6/9, 10:46 AM CT
Ken Rosenthal of FoxSports.com reports that the Oakland A's are not in active trade talks with regards to any player and have no immediate plans to initiate any.

Our View: This could be bad news for teams planning on pursuing Matt Holliday, but the guess is GM Billy Beane won't be quite so clammy once the trade deadline draws closer. Still, Beane has also signaled a willingness to simply let Holliday walk and take the compensatory draft picks the A's would receive were that to happen.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsSaturday 6/6, 11:15 AM CT
According to MLB.com, the Cardinals could be interested in outfield slugger Matt Holliday.

Our View: The Cards are looking for a big bat to protect Albert Pujols in the lineup and Holliday is considered to be a worthy and available commodity. With virtually everyone not named Pujols slumping in the Cardinal lineup St. Louis needs a solution quickly. Holliday would be a good fit, but it remains to be seen how much the Cardinals would be willing to give up for a three month Holliday rental.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsFriday 6/5, 11:31 PM CT
Matt Holliday led the A's in Friday's 9-1 win over the Orioles at McAfee Coliseum, as he went 2-for-3 with a three-run homer and a single.

Our View: Holliday has two hits in five of his last six games, with two homers and eight RBI over the span.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsThursday 6/4, 4:04 PM CT
For the fourth time in five games on Thursday, A's slugger Matt Holliday rapped two hits.

Our View: Holliday's early season struggles appear to be firmly behind him. He is now batting .280 with 7 home runs and 33 RBIs. If you had been benching during his slump, it is definitely time to begin starting him every day again.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsTuesday 6/2, 11:11 PM CT
Matt Holliday led the A's in Tuesday's 5-0 win at Chicago, as he went 2-for-5 with three RBI. He had a single and a double.

Our View: Holliday is hot as he collected two hits in three straight games, with five RBI over the span. He only has seven homers, but leads Oakland with 33 RBI.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsMonday 6/1, 10:25 PM CT
Matt Holliday was productive in Monday's 6-2 loss at Chicago as he went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer and a double.

Our View: He ended a nine-game skid without a home run, with the help of launching pad U.S. Cellular Field. He only hit two homers at McAfee Coliseum this season.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsMonday 5/25, 8:40 AM CT
The Giants are not interested in pursuing A's outfielder Matt Holliday, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. An undisclosed high-level source shot down the rumor.

Our View: The Giants do covet a bat, but are not going to chase Holliday. He only hit .240 with one homer in April, but is now hitting better with a .296 average and five homers so far in May.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsTuesday 5/19, 10:06 PM CT
Matt Holliday went 2-for-4 with a home run, a run scored, and three RBI in the A's 4-1 win over the Rays. Holliday homered in the top of the 11th to give his team the lead and the win.

Our View: Holliday has been hitting much better in the month of May, but he still has a long way to go to live up to his fantasy hype. An outing like this is a good start, so Holliday owners have something to look forward to as the season goes on.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsThursday 5/7, 5:41 PM CT
Matt Holliday went 1-for-2 with a home run, two walks, three RBI, and two runs scored in Thursday's 9-4 win over Texas.

Our View: Holliday has hit all four of his home runs this season since April 30. He has nine RBI over that stretch, and while his average has not improved much, he has shown signs of the power that made him a major player in fantasy leagues in recent seasons.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsWednesday 5/6, 12:13 AM CT
Matt Holliday hit his third home run of the season, and his first at home, on Tuesday in the A's 5-3 loss to the Angels.

Our View: Holliday has been killing fantasy owners so far this season, but his home run tonight could be a good omen of things to come. Now that he has gone deep in Oakland, maybe he will make it a regular occurrence. That's a big maybe, though.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsTuesday 5/5, 7:34 AM CT
FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal doesn't expect the A's to be sellers at the trading deadline. The team is just 4.5 games out of first place despite a 9-13 record, and their two biggest trading chips that are in the final years of their deals, Matt Holliday and Orlando Cabrera, are both off to poor starts.

Our View: We'll see what transpires over the next two months before rushing to judgment. You can bet if the A's fall too far out of contention that Billy Beane will be wheeling and dealing.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsSunday 5/3, 9:41 PM CT
Matt Holliday was 0-for-7 in Sunday's 15-inning marathon loss to the Mariners. His A's finally fell 8-7 after five hours and two minutes.

Our View: Holliday's average fell to a paltry .233 after Sunday's performance. He looks like a completely different hitter since being yanked out of Coors Field, and while no one expected him to reproduce his Colorado numbers while in the Bay Area, we didn't expect a slide of this caliber.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsThursday 4/30, 4:23 PM CT
Matt Holliday hit his first home run since being traded from Colorado when the A's beat the Rangers 4-2 on Thursday. The solo shot was his only hit in five at bats.

Our View: Holliday had gone 74 regular season at bats before knocking one out of the yard. He also failed to hit one in spring training. We expect his power to heat up with the weather, but 30 home runs is looking out of his range.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsSunday 4/26, 7:53 PM CT
Matt Holliday was 1-for-3 with an RBI in Sunday's 7-1 win over the Rays. He raised his average to a paltry .242.

Our View: Well, the sample size seems to be big enough now to start calling Holliday a product of Coors field. In 66 at-bats this season he has yet to hit a ball out of the park and has only five extra-base hits. It doesn't help that the lineup around him is anemic, but he doesn't look anything close to the player he was last year.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsFriday 4/24, 8:35 AM CT
Matt Holliday indicated that he would be interested in playing for the Yankees, according to the New York Post. Holliday said, "I think a little bit as a human being you cannot help but to think that if the Yankees are interested I would definitely consider it. I would not be looking around if I were under contract for the four years, but I think I would be lying if I said I would not be interested, especially with the Yankees being such a storied franchise."

Our View: It remains to be seen if Holliday's comments will rub his Oakland teammates the wrong way by stating that he would like to play somewhere else if the opportunity arises.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsWednesday 4/22, 5:54 PM CT
Matt Holliday went 2-for-6 on Wednesday while scoring a run and driving another in. His average now sits at .273 on the year.

Our View: Holliday has still been relatively quiet so far this season, but his .273 average isn't that bad. His power numbers, however, are. He still hasn't hit a homer, which gives strength to those who predicted a down year for the slugger, but it is still early. Holliday is hitting the ball, and he is strong enough that the ball will start to leave the park before long.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsFriday 4/17, 9:39 PM CT
Outfielder Matt Holliday only went 1-for-5 on Friday, but he doubled and drove in two runs.

Our View: Holliday is still off to a bit of a quiet start with his new club, but he has seven RBI over the last four games. We figure he'll be fine in the long run. Just don't expect him to swipe 28 bags again.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsWednesday 4/15, 5:25 PM CT
Matt Holliday went 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI in Wednesday's loss to the Red Sox. Holliday is now hitting .290 on the season, and he still hasn't managed to hit a home run.

Our View: Fantasy circles have had mixed emotions on Holliday all year, and so far he hasn't proven any of the right or wrong. He is hitting close to .300, which is good, but he has yet to hit a home run, which is bad. Keep watching how Holliday performs at the plate, but he is still a good starting outfielder in mixed league formats.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsTuesday 4/14, 12:07 AM CT
Matt Holliday was 3-for-4 with a triple and two RBI as Oakland defeated the Red Sox 8-2 on Monday. He is now hitting .333 as the cleanup hitter for the A's.

Our View: Holliday has had a slow start to the year but a lot of that may be due to a three-game flu virus to start the season which may have disrupted his timing. Many fantasy eyes will be focused on his performance away from Coors Field and the National League this year and so far so good.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsWednesday 4/8, 6:35 PM CT
Matt Holliday (flu) is out of the lineup again on Wednesday, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. He does believe he'll be available to pinch hit. Rajai Davis will start in his place.

Our View: Holliday has only appeared in one game this season due to the illness. It sounds as if he's feeling better and we expect him back in the outfield in Oakland's next game.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsWednesday 4/8, 9:45 AM CT
Matt Holliday is uncertain for Wednesday's game due to an illness, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Our View: Travis Buck replaced him in left field for Tuesday's game, and could make another start Wednesday if Holliday is not fit to play.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsTuesday 3/24, 4:33 PM CT
The A's signed manager Bob Geren to a one-year extension on Tuesday. The skipper is now inked through 2010, and the deal includes a club option for 2011, MLB.com reports.

Our View: The A's previously exercised an option to keep Geren for 2009, and this deal should make him feel a little bit more stable heading into this season.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsSunday 3/8, 11:57 PM CT
Matt Holliday was hitless in three at-bats Sunday in a 8-5 win over Cleveland.

Our View: Much has been made out of Holliday's offensive inconsistencies so far this spring, but when all is said and done, despite the new ballpark he will call home, there is little reason to think that Holliday won't still be one of the most productive outfielders in the game.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsFriday 3/6, 8:24 PM CT
Matt Holliday drove in two runs on two of the A's 16 hits Friday in a 12-1 win over Seattle.

Our View: Holliday had a second straight productive offensive game Friday after sleepwalking through the first week of exhibition games.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsThursday 3/5, 5:34 PM CT
Matt Holliday was 1-for-2 with an RBI double Thursday and may be slowly showing signs of breaking out of his spring slump. He is currently hitting .231.

Our View: Holliday should be fine once the season starts. Although his departure from Coors field into the spacious Coliseum in Oakland could hurt his production a bit, he's still a top fantasy outfielder.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsTuesday 3/3, 6:42 PM CT
Matt Holliday continued his spring struggles Tuesday against the Cubs, going 1-for-3 in a 6-4 A's loss.

Our View: Holliday is now 2-for-11 this spring, but the lifetime .321 hitter isn't likely to carry any preseason struggles into game action that matters.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsMonday 3/2, 8:44 AM CT
Matt Holliday isn't concerned that he is only 1-for-8 so far in game action, according to the SF Chronicle. Holliday said, "I am trying to see some pitches, so I am getting behind in the count, taking the first pitch. My timing is a little off."

Our View: Fantasy owners should not be concerned with the elite outfielder either. He should continue to be drafted among the top-15 at the position.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsTuesday 2/24, 2:57 PM CT
The Oakland A's won't become the Fremont A's, as they scuttled the plans to build a stadium there under protest from businesses and residents in the area, according to the AP.

Our View: A's owner Lew Wolff had planned this for about two and-a-half years, but ran into numerous stumbling blocks trying to get it done. He has expressed desire to continue to try and get a new stadium built elsewhere in the area.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsSaturday 11/15, 7:02 AM CT
Matt Holliday commented on his new team, as he will be leaving launching pad Coors Field for the pitcher-friendly Coliseum, according to the SF Chronicle. Holliday said, "I can't do much about where the ball goes. I can focus on my swing and hitting it on the barrel of the bat. I've got a pretty good base, hitting-wise, and I think it will work about anywhere I play."

Our View: Holliday is only signed for $13.5 million for 2009, meaning Oakland is not likely to keep him for more than one season, as he would probably covet a contract in the $100 million range.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsThursday 11/13, 5:43 PM CT
Matt Holliday won his third straight Silver Slugger award, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: Holliday's power production slipped a bit in 2008 from 2007, hitting 11 fewer home runs and driving in 49 fewer as well. The Rockies as a team were also not as strong in 2008 as they were in 2007, which could be one reason for his lower production. Now that he's been traded to Oakland, it will be difficult to gauge what his production will be like in 2009.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsWednesday 11/12, 11:28 AM CT
Matt Holliday has officially been dealt to the Athletics, according to the Associated Press. As expected, the Rockies received closer Huston Street, outfielder Carlos Gonzalez and lefthander Greg Smith in exchange for Holliday.

Our View: Holliday's numbers could take a hit in Oakland if the club doesn't do a better job of getting men on base at the top of the order. His power numbers could also dip while no longer playing his home games at launching pad Coors Field.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsWednesday 11/12, 8:09 AM CT
Boston considered dealing for Matt Holliday, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View: Boston and Colorado were briefly in trade talks for Holliday, but Boston walked away from the table due to Colorado's steep asking price. It is unknown exactly which players were being asked for, but Jacoby Ellsbury, Justin Masterson, Clay Buchholz, and Michael Bowden were likely mentioned.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsTuesday 11/11, 11:16 AM CT
The Rockies have agreed to deal elite outfielder Matt Holliday to the Athletics in exchange for closer Huston Street, left-hander Greg Smith, and outfielder Carlos Gonzalez, according to the Denver Post. The deal is pending physicals by the Athletics' players.

Our View: Holliday agreed to take a physical, even though the Athletics told him it wasn't necessary. More will be posted when the deal becomes official.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsMonday 11/10, 2:59 PM CT
News is slowly starting to trickle out about the Matt Holliday to Oakland A's deal. The latest bit of information says that the Athletics will be sending closer Huston Street, OF Carlos Gonzalez and SP Greg Smith to the Rockies, according to Yahoo! Sports.

Our View: If true, the Rockies will certainly bow out of the Brian Fuentes sweepstakes as they can replace him with Street. Smith was solid this season despite a terrible record (7-16), that was the result of some horrific run support. And while Gonzalez struggled as a rookie last season (.242-4-26 in 302 AB), his future is bright according to scouts.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsMonday 11/10, 1:35 PM CT
In a blockbuster move, Matt Holliday has been traded to the Oakland Athletics, according to Jon Heyman of Sports Illustrated.

Our View: This deal is just breaking and we don't even know the other players involved. An update will be forthcoming once we learn who is involved, but given that the A's payroll is limited, it remains to be seen if this is anything more than just a single year pickup (Holliday will be a free agent after the 2009 season).
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsSunday 11/9, 9:24 PM CT
The rumors that Matt Holliday would be traded to the Cardinals apparently will not come to fruition, according to the Rocky Mountain News. Cardinals GM John Mozeliak said late Sunday that the trade "is dead" whereas Rockies GM Dan O'Dowd stated that he didn't feel that a deal, with any team, is imminent.

Our View: This deal never really made sense to us as it was being discussed since it seemed odd that Ryan Ludwick and his small contract would be moved in a package deal to the Rockies to pick up Holliday and his massive contract demands. The Rockies will continue to try and move Holliday, and there is always a chance these two teams will revisit the deal.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsSaturday 11/8, 2:36 PM CT
In order to acquire Matt Holliday from the Rockies, the St. Louis Cardinals would have to give up Ryan Ludwick, Skip Schumaker and Mitchell Boggs, according to Ken Rosenthal of FoxSports.com.

Our View: The issue with Holliday are the wide gaps in his home and road splits. He is a much better hit at Coors, as are many players, so his fantasy value, should he get traded, would be downgraded.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsThursday 11/6, 5:11 PM CT
The latest Matt Holliday rumor has the slugger potentially ending up in St. Louis in exchange for Ryan Ludwick and others, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. This is merely a rumor at this point as GM John Mozeliak did not confirm the report when asked. However, "sources" claim that a deal has been discussed.

Our View: Holliday will be a great player no matter where he ends up, but you have to remember that his work on the road during his career is merely solid (.280/.348/.803) meaning that you should consider Holliday's value to be a bit up in the air until we know what park he will call home.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsThursday 11/6, 9:11 AM CT
Several MLB executives predict that Matt Holliday will land in either Philadelphia or Oakland, according to the Denver Post.

Our View: The Rockies are said to be open-minded to any propsed deal, and do not have to receive a solid starting pitcher in return. Holliday would be an upgrade and a great replacement for Pat Burrell if he is dealt to the Phillies. Oakland seems a less likely destination for him.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsTuesday 11/4, 9:32 AM CT
It is becoming increasingly likely that Matt Holliday will be traded by the Rockies, according to the Denver Post. The Yankees are still all over the rumor mill as a contender for Holliday as well. One scenario has the Yankees trading Hideki Matsui to Seattle and acquiring Holliday, while the Rockies get a package of prospects including Phil Hughes. This is similar to the deal that sent Manny Ramirez to the Dodgers and Jason Bay to the Red Sox.

Our View: The Yankees didn't deal young talent for Johan Santana last season, and they missed the playoffs. Apparently the Yankees only will be patient for one year every couple of decades or so. They're now pulling out all of the stops, looking to go after just about every big name player who is available.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsFriday 10/24, 4:29 PM CT
The Rockies are very likely to trade Matt Holliday, according to SportsIllustrated.com,

Our View: The Rockies are looking to rebuild, just one year removed from an incredible run to the World Series. They're also interested in dealing third baseman Garrett Atkins. The Rockies main focus is pitching, as that is where they had the most trouble this season.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsSaturday 9/27, 4:13 PM CT
Before Friday night's game Matt Holliday was scratched due to a stiff lower back and on Saturday, the Rockies announced that he would miss the rest of the season. Both Holliday and the Rockies have said that the injury isn't serious, according to the Rocky Mountain News.

Our View: With Holliday out for the rest of 2008 it looks like Ryan Spilborghs will see most of the at-bats in the last two games.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsFriday 9/26, 11:38 PM CT
Matt Holliday was scratched from Friday's start due to a stiff lower back, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Ryan Spilborghs started in his place in left field. If Holliday still feels sore on Saturday, he could be shut down for the final two games of the season.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsSaturday 9/20, 5:47 PM CT
Matt Holliday has been scratched from Saturday's start with a minor back injury, according to the AP. Manager Clint Hurdle said, "He tweaked his back yesterday during the game. What I heard was making a play in the outfield. I put the lineup up, by the time he got here today he was not comfortable."

Our View: He will be re-evaluated and is not expected to return until Tuesday.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsTuesday 9/16, 12:04 PM CT
Matt Holliday turned down a deal from the Rockies that would pay him between $18 and $20 million per year because of what the contract did not include, such as length and a no-trade clause, according to the Rocky Mountain News. "So to take four years with no no-trade clause? To where if all of a sudden the organization wants to go in a different direction, you're out? Where's the loyalty then?" Holliday asked.

Our View: It will come as no surprise to anyone that Holliday's agent is Scott Boras, and that he wants these incentives in his contract. Holliday is not a free agent until after next year, so it is quite possible he gets traded sometime in the offseason.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsThursday 9/11, 10:03 PM CT
Matt Holliday ripped the Braves during the last three games, going 6-for-12. Thursday night Holliday was 3-for-4, while driving in two runs.

Our View: Holliday has been solid all year and is only five stolen bases and six home runs away from a 30-30 season. Fantasy owners have had nothing to complain about with Holliday's season.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsWednesday 8/20, 12:43 AM CT
The Rockies took the bats to the Dodgers this evening, beating LA 8-3. The leader of the cause, once again, was outfielder Matt Holliday, going 4-for-5 with his 32nd double and 24th homer of the season, totaling one RBI and two runs scored.

Our View: His average fell from .370 in July to .317 in August, but with six homers, 10 RBIs, and an amazing 22 runs scored, fantasy owners have nothing to complain about.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsThursday 8/14, 5:05 PM CT
Matt Holliday hit a solo home run as part of a 1-for-3 performance in the Rockies 6-2 loss to the Diamondbacks.

Our View: One thing Holliday, like many others, does very well is hit at Coors Field. He now has a .369 batting average at his home park, to the delight of fantasy owners.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsSaturday 8/9, 11:09 PM CT
The Padres and Rockies continued to battle in the NL West with the Pads finding the path to victory, winning 8-3 despite the best efforts of Colorado outfielder Matt Holliday. Holliday went 2-for-4 at the dish with two runs scored.

Our View: Holliday continues to show and prove despite his team's struggles to maintain, hitting .382 through August with four homers and six RBIs already earned this month.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsThursday 8/7, 8:16 PM CT
The Colorado Rockies were swept in a doubleheader by Washington, but outfielder Matt Holliday had a nice day, going 1-for-3 with a run scored and a stolen base.

Our View: Holliday has an eight game hitting streak going, and fantasy owners may be surprised to know he now has 16 stolen bases on the season.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsTuesday 8/5, 1:51 PM CT
Matt Holliday had another extra-base hit in last night's game against the Nationals. He extended his hitting streak to six games. During the hitting streak he has three home runs, two doubles, five RBI, and eight runs scored.

Our View: Holliday is one of the hottest hitters in all of baseball, he should be cemented into your starting lineup.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsSunday 8/3, 3:55 PM CT
The Marlins thought they were cruising to a win only to allow three runs over the final three innings to fall, 3-2, to the Colorado Rockies. The Rocks posted just four hits on the day, but outfielder Matt Holliday kept them efficient with a solo homer in the seventh, his 21st of the year, representing his only hit on the day. Holliday went 1-for-4 with the one RBI and one run scored.

Our View: Over his last five games, Holliday has posted nine hits, including three homers and four RBIs.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsSaturday 8/2, 11:01 PM CT
Matt Holliday went 3-for-4 with two solo homers in Saturday's 5-3 loss to the Marlins.

Our View: He has 20 homers for the season, and registered multiple hits in three of his last four games. He is off to a strong start in August.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsSunday 7/27, 10:40 PM CT
SI.com reports that the Rockies are not likely to be sellers at the deadline after winning nine of their last 10 games. Both Brian Fuentes and Matt Holliday are likely to remain with the team.

Our View: Owners of Matt Holliday should rejoice. His name had been rumored for nearly a month but his value would have dropped sharply had he left Denver. This season, he has hit .376 with 12 home runs and 46 RBI at home compared to .305, with five home runs and just 14 RBI on the road. He is good no matter where he plays, but his numbers are mammoth at Coors Field.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsWednesday 7/23, 5:46 PM CT
Matt Holliday had two hits which led to a run scored and three RBI for the Rockies.

Our View: That's 4-straight games with at least two hits for Halladay who is hitting .667 (10-for-15) with seven RBI in that time.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsMonday 7/21, 11:57 PM CT
Matt Holliday went 3-for-3 with a double, homer, two runs, and three RBI before taking a seat on Monday night.

Our View: It was Holliday's second straight game with three hits and a homer. He probably would have had more, but the Rockies benched him when the Dodgers jumped to a huge lead.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsSunday 7/20, 7:38 PM CT
The Rockies were rolling in offensive fun today, posting an impressive 11-3 win against Pittsburgh. The charge at the plate was led by outfielder Matt Holliday , going 3-for-5 at the plate with his 22nd double and 16th home run of the season, posting two RBIs and two runs scored.

Our View: Holliday trade rumors will start glowing as Colorado seeks an inflated cost on their top offensive weapon. The guy hit .360 last month, is hitting .333 this month, and has surged in the power categories with six homers and 16 RBIs thus far in July.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsWednesday 7/16, 10:26 AM CT
Rockies GM Dan O'Dowd is said to be quietly asking around about a potential trade involving Matt Holliday, according to Jon Heyman of SI.com. One of the first calls O'Dowd made was reportedly to the Mets, with the deal also including Willy Taveras and involving Carlos Beltran and top prospect Fernando Martinez. Understandably, though, that deal was shot down by the Mets, and any trade between the two clubs seems like a longshot.

Our View: The Red Sox, Yankees and Angels, among others, are also reportedly kicking the tires on Holliday.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsThursday 7/10, 11:58 AM CT
Matt Holliday will be the starting right fielder for the National League in the All-Star Game, according to MLB.com. He will replace the injured Alfonso Soriano in the lineup.

Our View: Holliday is having another great season, and is a better option than Soriano anyway. Holliday's .343 average is fourth in the National League.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsMonday 7/7, 10:24 PM CT
Matt Holliday hit his 14th home run - and fourth in as many games - and Colorado scored a 4-3 victory over Milwaukee on Monday night.

Our View: Holliday hasn't hit for as much power this year, as he did last season, but his batting average (.345) and stolen bases (11) still make him a top-tiered fantasy option in all formats.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsSaturday 7/5, 10:29 PM CT
Matt Holliday led the Rockies to their 5th straight victory on Saturday night with two hits, two runs and four RBI. One of the hits was his 13th home run of the year.

Our View: In his last 11 games Holliday has 17 hits including three home runs, 12 RBI and 10 runs scored as he continues to be one of the most valuable sluggers in the fantasy game.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsFriday 7/4, 11:18 PM CT
Matt Holliday went 3-for-6 with five RBI in Friday's wild 18-17 win over the Marlins at Coors Field. Two of his hits went deep into the Colorado air for home runs.

Our View: Holliday extended his hitting streak to eight games, with four multi-hit efforts over the span. He also snapped a eight-game skid without a homer.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsWednesday 7/2, 2:07 PM CT
Fox Sports reports that the Angels are showing interest in Rockies outfielder Matt Holliday. The report notes that after failing in attempts to secure free agents Mark Teixeira and Miguel Cabrera in the past year, the team is chasing Holliday in an effort to bolster their offense.

Our View: The first place Angels are tied for next-to-last in the American League in runs per game.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsTuesday 7/1, 11:31 PM CT
The Rockies didn't light up the sky with the offense in getting the 4-0 victory over the Padres, but outfielder Matt Holliday was up to his usual tricks. Holliday went 2-for-2 with two walks, his 21st double and his 10th stolen base of the season.

Our View: Holliday has been a terror since returning from injury, finishing with a .360 average for June with 13 RBIs despite missing nearly two weeks of business. If he stays healthy through July, watch out.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsTuesday 7/1, 2:08 PM CT
The Colorado Rockies will decide soon whether or not they would be willing to deal Matt Holliday, according to the Rocky Mountain News. The paper reported that the interested teams so far Oakland, Kansas City, Tampa Bay, both Los Angeles teams and St. Louis.

Our View: Holliday would be the big prize among position players if he is to be moved to a contending club. However, his fantasy value could take a hit if he is traded away from Coors Field, as his average at home is 47 points higher than on the road (.356 to .309), and his slugging percentage is 135 points higher (.607 to .472).
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsTuesday 6/24, 10:34 PM CT
The Rockies found interleague play to be rather difficult this evening, taking the 7-3 loss against Kansas City. Outfielder Matt Holliday was a force at the plate, going 2-for-4 with his 10th homer of the season to total one RBI and one run scored on the night.

Our View: That's two homers in two days for Holliday, working to get back on track since returning from injury by hitting .358 through June.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsSunday 6/22, 10:01 AM CT
Reports indicate the Oakland A's may be in the market to add a big name via trade, namely Colorado outfielder Matt Holliday , Pittsburgh outfielder Jason Bay, or Cleveland ace C.C. Sabathia, according to MLBRumors.com.

Our View: Rumors is quoting a video clip from reporter Ken Rosenthal that notes the A's are in contention and have the prospects needed to lure those teams into discussions for such a player. Rosenthal also notes the A's are likely to have competition for the services of Sabathia, noting the Phillies are likely to be inquiring. However, Rosenthal believes Philadelphia would have to ask for top pitching prospect Carlos Carrasco in return and Philly may not be willing to part with that commodity.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsThursday 6/19, 11:28 PM CT
Matt Holliday went 2-for-3 with two RBI helping the Rockies to a 6-3 victory over the scuffling Indians on Thursday night.

Our View: Holliday is quietly securing himself among the fantasy elite. The Roks outfielder is hitting .329 with 33 RBI and 37 runs scored and while his numbers are not what they were a year ago, Holliday has accomplished his statline in only 56 games.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsMonday 6/16, 10:24 PM CT
Matt Holliday had two hits, one a double the other a single, on Monday night in five trips to the plate to finish the night with a .318 batting average.

Our View: This night gives Holliday a .296 average in 27 AB since returning from the DL as he has now gone seven games without a long ball.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsTuesday 6/10, 5:09 PM CT
The Rockies have activated Matt Holliday from the 15-day DL, MLB.com notes. He was out due to a strained left hamstring.

Our View: Holliday had been aiming at June 10 ever since he went on the DL, so this news shouldn't be surprising to anyone.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsSunday 6/8, 9:38 PM CT
Colorado left fielder Matt Holliday is set to return to the Rockies lineup on Tuesday for the opener of a three-game series against the San Francisco Giants, according to MLB.com.

He fanned twice, but manager Tom Runnelss said he looked strong in batting practice and added, "He was swinging the bat well. He also worked in the outfield and was running good."

Our View: Holliday played seven innings, and said he felt healthy following the game. He is scheduled to play in two more rehab games, and looks to rejoin the Rockies on Tuesday, barring a setback.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsFriday 6/6, 9:02 AM CT
Updating an earlier report on Matt Holliday's rehab assignment in Triple-A Colorado Springs, the slugger could return as early as Tuesday and begin Fantasy Week 10 with the club, this according to the Denver Post.

Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsThursday 6/5, 4:48 PM CT
Matt Holliday (hamstring) had his rehab process slowed on Thursday as the Sky Sox game with the Salt Lake Bees was deemed to be too wet for Holliday to play, according to MLB.com.

Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsSunday 6/1, 2:04 PM CT
Matt Holliday will begin a Triple-A rehab assignment on Thursday, the Denver Post reports. He will spend three days with the Sky Sox and test his injured left hamstring.

Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsWednesday 5/28, 9:36 AM CT
Matt Holliday is working hard in rehab and is aiming to return on June 10. He is out due to a strained left hamstring. "By the time we play the Giants on (June 10), I should be ready," Holliday informs the Denver Post. "That's the way I have plotted it out."

Our View: If Holliday's vision turns true, fantasy owners will only be without him for one more fantasy week. We'll continue to update his progress.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsSunday 5/25, 12:58 PM CT
Matt Holliday has been placed on the 15-day DL due to his strained hamstring, according to the AP. Outfielder Cory Sullivan has been recalled from Triple-A Colorado Springs to take his spot on the roster.

Our View: The Rockies have been hit hard by injuries this season, as they already have Brad Hawpe, Clint Barmes, and Troy Tulowitzki on the DL. Garrett Atkins is also nursing a stiff neck, and sat out on Sunday.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsSunday 5/25, 7:02 AM CT
Matt Holliday suffered a slight strain of his left hamstring while running out a grounder in the ninth inning of action on Saturday, according to The Gazette.

Our View: He is day-to-day and will be evaluated on Sunday. We will keep you posted on the elite outfielder's status.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsSunday 5/18, 12:50 PM CT
Rumors are swirling that indicate the Cleveland Indians have contacted the Colorado Rockies with interest in trading for outfielder Matt Holliday , third baseman Garrett Atkins, and/or relief pitcher Brian Fuentes, according to FoxSports.com.

Our View: The bulk of the speculation revolves around three key facts. (1) Holliday is reportedly seeking a new eight-year contract in the neighborhood of $152 million. Cleveland is a team that might be able to come up with such numbers, and the Rockies are most certainly not. (2) Colorado general manager Dan O'Dowd has worked in the Cleveland organization and has close ties with the personnel for the Indians that could facilitate such discussions and keep it quiet. (3) Cleveland is in need of a strong right-handed bat, preferably to fill a spot in the corner outfield. Atkins would also work as the Indians have a need for an offensive infielder. As of today, it is speculation... but it makes a ton of sense for both teams and could prove worthy of heavy consideration.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsSunday 5/18, 9:34 AM CT
Having missed time over the week due to a lower back ailment, Colorado OF Matt Holliday made his return on Saturday as the Rockies took a 3-2 win over the Minnesota Twins.

Our View: Holliday went 1-for-4 with a double and a run scored, carrying a batting average of .340 this month. He has hit safely in 11 of his last 12 games.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsFriday 5/16, 7:22 PM CT
Matt Holliday has been scratched from the Rockies' lineup for tonight due to a lower back ailment, according to the Star Tribune. Head trainer Keith Dugger said, "He’s been battling it for a couple of days. He tried to get loose. It’s precautionary. He didn’t have any injury of any sort, it just kind of came on. It’s not a disk or anything like that, it’s a tight back." Dugger also said he could pinch hit Friday night if his back responds to treatment.

Our View: Holliday is listed as day-to-day. Ryan Spilborghs will cover his spot in left field.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsSaturday 5/10, 1:29 AM CT
Matt Holliday homered for the sixth time this season and the Rockies won their third straight after losing 13 of 16.

Our View: Ever since the Roks were able to muster a string of hits in the bottom of the ninth inning against St Louis and Izzy Isringhausen, they have been playing with confidence and are beginning to make a move, albeit from eight games out, in the soft NL West.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsThursday 5/8, 6:56 PM CT
Matt Holliday had four hits that led to three runs scored on Thursday for the Rockies star.

Our View: Holliday is now working on a 6-game hitting streak which has boosted his average to .324 from .292. He's gonna hit, and put up some huge numbers, so just leave him in your lineup every day and don't give it a second thought.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsTuesday 4/22, 11:14 PM CT
Matt Holliday hit his fourth home run of the season, a solo shot in the 5th inning off Brett Meyers, in one of few bright spots in the Rockies 8-6 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies.

Our View: Holliday went 2-for-4 at the plate, also belting his fifth double of the season to total two RBIs and two runs scored, adding a walk to the strong fantasy performance from Colorado on the evening.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsFriday 4/18, 7:34 AM CT
Matt Holliday swiped two more bases on Thursday night, giving him four over the past three games. He went 3-for-6 with three walks against the Padres. The Denver Post reports that Holliday believes he can steal 20 bases this season, and that goal was the reason why he moved up from the fourth to the third spot in the order.

Our View: Holliday stole 11 and 10 bases the last two seasons, and a bump up to 20 would heighten his already elite fantasy value. Consider it an extra perk if you drafted him.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsMonday 4/14, 3:13 PM CT
Matt Holliday has been named the National League Player of the Week, according to the AP. He earned the honor by hitting an NL-best .480 (12-for-25) over the week, while driving in 10 runs. That was his fifth career weekly award. Other nominees were Albert Pujols, Lance Berkman, and pitcher Cole Hamels.

Our View: Holliday is hitting 16-for-47 overall, with three homers and 11 RBI. He is yet to disappoint as the number one rated fantasy outfielder for 2008.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsSunday 4/13, 7:48 PM CT
Matt Holliday went 3-for-5 with a double, homer, two runs, three RBI, and a stolen base on Sunday. He is 12-for-33 (.364) with three long balls and 11 RBI over his last eight games.

Our View: There's a good reason Holliday was a top-five pick in many fantasy leagues.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsMonday 4/7, 10:32 PM CT
Matt Holliday finally made a splash on Monday night as hit a 2-run home run to lead the Rockies to a 2-1 victory. Holliday is still hitting only .192 on the year, but this will likely be just the start of another fantastic offensive display from Holliday in '08.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsSunday 4/6, 10:47 PM CT
Matt Holliday hit a pitch from Colorado closer Brandon Lyon over the right-field fence for his first home run and RBI of the season on Sunday night. The long ball gave the Rockies a second chance by extending the game into extra innings, but Arizona scored three in the top of the tenth to sweep Colorado. One week into the 2008 season, Holliday is hitting .182 with the one HR, one RBI and only one run scored. Katie bar the door when the 2007 MVP candidate breaks out.

Matt Holliday had two hits on Saturday night to lift his average to .167 on the year in 18 AB. It's still way too early to panic, but this was the fifth straight game for Holliday this year without an RBI, something that never happened even once last year in his MVP runner-up season.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsTuesday 3/11, 7:01 PM CT
Matt Holliday went 1-for-3 today, bringing his spring average to .385, according to MLB.com. The Rockies' top power hitter led his team to a 4-1 victory over the Mariners in Cactus League action today. Holliday appears to be working towards another fantastic season and reports of moving him from third in the lineup to cleanup may be helped by his continued success in spring training. For fantasy owners, such a move could mean more RBI opportunities, more attempts to steal bases, and better fantasy rewards.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsTuesday 2/26, 3:59 PM CT
Manager Clint Hurdle is thinking of moving Matt Holliday from the third spot in the lineup cleanup, and that could result in Holliday running more, according to the Denver Post. "I could possibly steal 20 bases, but I am not going to hurt myself trying to do it," Holliday said. "We will be more aggressive as a team. I don't think we are going to miss Matsui as much as everyone thinks. He was a good player, but we didn't have him out there all the time. Who knows? We might not need more stolen bases, anyway." Don't draft Holliday any earlier because of his news. We'd be surpised if he approached 20 thefts.
Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsTuesday 2/26, 8:34 AM CT
Matt Holliday received 531 at-bats in the three slot last year and just eight in the cleanup spot, but he could find himself hitting fourth more often than not this year. Manager Clint Hurdle has talked with Holliday and Todd Helton about switching the two in the order. "(Hurdle) said he was considering it, and it really doesn't matter to me where I hit," Holliday said in the Denver Post. Holliday doesn't care where he hits, and fantasy owners really don't, either - assuming that he is in either the three of four spot.

Matt Holliday returned to the lineup Tuesday and had two hits at Los Angeles. He's been dealing with a slightly strained oblique and didn't play the prior two games. Matt Holliday, LF, St. Louis CardinalsSunday 9/23, 4:47 AM CT
Matt Holliday has been taking treatment for his sore oblique over the last 4-5 days, according to the Rockies official site. Holliday finally sat out a game Saturday, and it's not clear if he'll play in the series finale at San Diego. The amazing story in all this is that Holliday somehow has 11 homers in his last 12 games, despite the fact that he's not 100 percent. He obviously has every incentive to get back on the field quickly, as the Rockies are making a legitimate push for a playoff spot; Colorado is 2.5 games behind San Diego in the Wild Card standings entering Sunday.
