Kip Wells, P, Cincinnati RedsThursday 2/11, 6:46 PM CT
According to the Cincinnati Enquirer, the Reds have signed veteran right-hander Kip Wells to a minor league deal.

Our View: Wells may make the team this spring, but don't expect him to be any kind of a difference maker. His 5.33 ERA and 40 walks against just 43 Ks in 72.2 innings last season suggest that he'd be slated for mop-up duty in the bullpen or the occasional emergency start.
Kip Wells, P, Cincinnati RedsMonday 11/16, 7:05 PM CT
Kip Wells has filed for free agency Monday, according to MLB.com.

Our View: The 32-year-old hurler went 2-5 with a 5.33 ERA over 33 games (seven starts) with the Reds and Nationals in 2009. If Wells is offered arbitration and inks with another team, he is not rated for the Reds to receive compensation in return.
Kip Wells, P, Cincinnati RedsThursday 10/1, 3:25 PM CT
Kip Wells got absolutely destroyed by his former team on Thursday as the Reds fell to the Cardinals by a score of 13-0. Wells went only two innings and allowed five runs on five hits while walking one and striking out one.

Our View: Wells was awful today, and he even allowed a grand slam to his counterpart Chris Carpenter. He is not a quality starting pitcher in this league, and he should not have any fantasy value in the future.
Kip Wells, P, Cincinnati RedsSunday 9/20, 2:59 PM CT
Kip Wells dominated a punchless Marlins lineup on Sunday, allowing just one run in seven innings, as Cincinnati won 8-1 at home.

Our View: Incomprehensibly, Wells has pitched resonably well since being reinserted into the Reds' rotation in late August. In six starts, he has gone 2-1 with a 4.54 ERA.
Kip Wells, P, Cincinnati RedsTuesday 9/15, 9:31 PM CT
Kip Wells surrendered four runs on five hits and a pair of walks over 6.2 innings on Tuesday. He struck out just one and did not receive a decision in the 5-4 win over the Astros.

Our View: Not a good start for most, but better than the effort that Wells usually turns out. That should tell you about where he stands amongst his fantasy peers.
Kip Wells, P, Cincinnati RedsThursday 9/10, 5:33 PM CT
Kip Wells was knocked around by his former team on Thursday. He allowed five runs on six hits and three walks over just five innings in a 5-1 loss to the Rockies.

Our View: Wells was surprisingly good in his last two starts with the Reds, but he was victimized in Colorado on Thursday. That performance is more indicative of the type of pitcher he is, so he's best to leave off fantasy rosters.
Kip Wells, P, Cincinnati RedsTuesday 9/8, 5:29 PM CT
Kip Wells will make another start for the Reds on Thursday, according to Mark Sheldon of MLB.com.

Our View: Wells somehow has a 2.65 ERA in three starts since being pushed into emergency starting duty by the team late last month. Still, he's not a good fantasy bet pitching against a loaded Rockies lineup in Coors Field this Thursday.
Kip Wells, P, Cincinnati RedsSaturday 9/5, 9:09 PM CT
Kip Wells only surrendered one hit over six scoreless innings in Saturday's 3-1 win at Atlanta. He had four walks with four strikeouts.

Our View: Wells was in control tonight, and earned his first win over three starts. He is benefiting from leaving the Nationals.
Kip Wells, P, Cincinnati RedsMonday 8/31, 3:46 PM CT
Kip Wells pitched fairly well for the second straight start for the Reds on Monday, but he did not factor into the decision as his team beat the Pirates 4-3. Wells went six innings and allowed two runs on two hits while walking four and striking out two.

Our View: Well this is quite possibly as good as Wells could possibly be in a start. He only allowed two hits, which is outstanding, but don't let his last two outings fool you. He should not be added under any circumstances.
Kip Wells, P, Cincinnati RedsWednesday 8/26, 11:15 PM CT
Making his first start of 2009, Kip Wells was oddly decent on Wednedsay, allowing just three runs in five innings, helping the Reds win 4-3 in ten innings in Milwaukee.

Our View: Don't try this at home kids - literally, don't add Kip Wells under circumstance. Someone might get hurt.
Kip Wells, P, Cincinnati RedsTuesday 8/25, 4:55 PM CT
Kip Wells will start for the Reds on Wednesday in place of the injured Aaron Harang, according to the Twitter page of beat writer Mark Sheldon.

Our View: Wells has thrown 8.2 innings since joining the Reds, and he has allowed four runs and taken a loss in that time. He couldn't hack it with the Nationals earlier this season, so there is no reason to think he will be any better this time around with the Reds.
Kip Wells, P, Cincinnati RedsThursday 7/9, 5:32 PM CT
Kip Wells has signed a minor league deal with the Reds, according to Mark Sheldon's twitter page.

Our View: The club sent him to Triple-A Louisville. Wells held a poor 6.49 ERA over 26.1 innings of relief out of the Nationals' bullpen, and would not likely fare better with Cincinnati, who play their home games at launching pad Great American Ballpark.
Kip Wells, P, Cincinnati RedsWednesday 6/24, 2:52 PM CT
The Washington Nationals have designated Kip Wells for assignment, according to MLB.com.

Our View: The excruciating pain train Kip Wells has taken fans on for 11 seasons may finally be at an end. Kip was his usual disastrous self in 2009 before going on the disabled list, posting a 6.49 ERA in 26.1 innings. He is now officially no longer even good enough for the Nationals, so you have to wonder if any team could swallow the embarrassment of signing him at this point. In 1,254.2 career innings, Wells has a 4.71 ERA.
Kip Wells, P, Cincinnati RedsTuesday 6/16, 1:54 PM CT
Kip Wells has been activated from the 15-day DL by the Washington Nationals, according to the Miami Herald. In a corresponding move, the team sent down pitcher Jason Bergmann.

Our View: Wells has a 6.26 ERA so far this season, and after a failed stint as the team's closer he moved back to middle relief. He holds no fantasy value, and even if he does get another chance at closing it might be wise to stay away from him.
Kip Wells, P, Cincinnati RedsTuesday 6/9, 4:06 PM CT
Kip Wells has been sent to Single-A to start his rehab assignment, according to TSN. He has been recovering from a right adductor strain.

Our View: Wells has a career 4.70 ERA and holds little fantasy value as a middle reliever when healthy.
Kip Wells, P, Cincinnati RedsTuesday 6/2, 3:20 PM CT
The Nationals have placed RP Kip Wells on the 15-day disabled list with a right adductor strain according to the Associated Press.

Our View: This may come as a surprise to people who were unaware Kip Wells was still in the major leagues. We will let you know when he's activated, but don't let him near your fantasy team.
Kip Wells, P, Cincinnati RedsTuesday 4/28, 2:46 PM CT
Kip Wells and Julian Tavarez will share the closer's role in Washington after Joel Hanrahan was unseated from the position, according to MLBblogs.com.

Our View: Wells' fantasy value improves a bit as a reliever, but Joe Beimel (hip) could take over the closer's role when he is ready to return from the DL next week. Beimel is the preferred player to target in fantasy leagues.
Kip Wells, P, Cincinnati RedsMonday 4/20, 12:37 PM CT
The Nationals purchased Kip Wells' contract from Triple-A Syracuse, according to TSN.

Our View: Wells has made 205 career starts in the majors, but the 31-year-old vet will not hold much fantasy value while working in the Nationals' bullpen.
Kip Wells, P, Cincinnati RedsWednesday 3/11, 4:30 PM CT
The AP reports that pitcher Kip Wells signed a minor-league contract with the Nationals on Wednesday. He will be given a shot to strengthen their bullpen.

Our View: Wells worked out of the bullpen last season with both the Rockies and the Royals. He compiled a 6.21 ERA and a 1.83 WHIP in 37.2 innings of work.
Kip Wells, P, Cincinnati RedsFriday 10/24, 2:58 PM CT
Kip Wells has asked for his unconditional release from the Kansas City Royals, according to the AP.

Our View: Wells, who spent last season with both the Rockies and the Royals, was eligible to be a free agent, but will be off of the Kansas City 40-man roster earlier with this move.
Kip Wells, P, Cincinnati RedsTuesday 8/19, 11:06 AM CT
Kip Wells has been signed by the Kansas City Royals and will become a part of the team's bullpen, according to the Kansas City Star.

Our View: Wells has no fantasy value. He hasn't had much value to his teams in recent years, either, and is on his third squad in under two seasons.
Kip Wells, P, Cincinnati RedsMonday 8/18, 5:29 PM CT
The Royals are interested in Kip Wells, who was recently designated for assignment by the Rockies, according to the Denver Post.

Our View: Wells has been horrible in two starts this year but has been much better in relief. Still, it's puzzling why a team like the Royals would have interest.
Kip Wells, P, Cincinnati RedsSunday 8/10, 12:59 PM CT
Kip Wells has been designated for assignment, according to the AP.

Our View: Wells struggled this season, with a 5.27 ERA and 1.76 WHIP over 27.1 innings, and held little fantasy value prior to his designation.
Kip Wells, P, Cincinnati RedsFriday 7/25, 9:15 AM CT
The Rocky Mountain News suggests that Kip Wells could be demoted to the bullpen after getting rocked for seven earned runs against the Angels in his last start on July 21.

Our View: Wells' next start would have been Tuesday in Pittsburgh, but the Rockies could add a player through a trade or could decide to give a one-start look at current Triple-A starters Jason Hirsh, Franklin Morales, or Greg Reynolds. Wells has proven that he is better suited for the bullpen.
Kip Wells, P, Cincinnati RedsMonday 7/21, 5:53 PM CT
The Rockies activated Kip Wells from the 60-day DL on Monday, MLB.com reports. Wells had been out since April 28 due to a blood clot in his right hand.

Our View: Wells will jump into the rotation, but we don't have very high hopes for the veteran. Fantasy owners should steer clear.
Kip Wells, P, Cincinnati RedsThursday 7/17, 7:35 PM CT
The Rocky Mountain News reports that Kip Wells is expected to be activated in time to make a start on Monday. He is recovering from a blood clot in his right hand.

Our View: In 10 games earlier this season, Wells had a 2.29 ERA and a 1-1 record.
Kip Wells, P, Cincinnati RedsThursday 7/17, 12:57 PM CT
Kip Wells allowed two runs on six hits, with one walk and eight strikeouts over 6.2 innings in Wednesday's rehab outing with Double-A Tulsa, according to the Rocky Mountain News. He is recovering from a blood clot in his right hand.

Our View: Wells' rehab outing (which was his fifth) went fine, and he is slated to return to the Rockies' rotation on Monday to battle the Dodgers.
Kip Wells, P, Cincinnati RedsMonday 7/14, 12:41 PM CT
The plan is to have Kip Wells make a final rehab start for Double-A Tulsa on Wednesday, then join the Rockies' rotation, likely a week from now against the Dodgers, according to the Rocky Mountain News. Skipper Clint Hurdle said, "We need to revisit him and we are prepared to revisit him in the starting rotation."

Our View: Wells allowed 16 hits, 14 walks, and five earned runs over 19.2 innings this season, and is only worth a look in deeper NL-only leagues, namely for depth.
Kip Wells, P, Cincinnati RedsSunday 7/13, 10:16 PM CT
Kip Wells, who had surgery to remove a blood clot in his hand, will make one more rehab start Wednesday at Double-A Tulsa, according to the AP. The team will evaluate him after his Wednesday work and make a decision on when he will join the rotation.

Our View: Wells, who started one game this year in 10 appearances, has registered a 2.29 ERA with 16 strike outs in 19.2 innings.
Kip Wells, P, Cincinnati RedsThursday 7/10, 2:51 PM CT
Kip Wells will return to the Colorado Rockies rotation for the second half of the season after he makes two more rehab starts, according to ColoradoRockies.com.

Our View: Wells was having a good year in relief for the Rockies, but don't let that fool you. His lowest ERA as a starter in the last three seasons is 5.09.
Kip Wells, P, Cincinnati RedsTuesday 7/1, 10:02 AM CT
Kip Wells will likely make two more starts at Colorado Springs before being recalled to join the Rockies, according to the Denver Post.

Our View: It's unclear just how the Rockies plan to use Wells once he is activated, but he will probably return to the bullpen where he had minimal success in the early going (1.53 WHIP with 14 BB in 19.2 IP).
Kip Wells, P, Cincinnati RedsWednesday 6/25, 10:43 AM CT
Kip Wells is expected to work three to four innings for the Triple-A Sky Sox on Thursday, according to the Denver Post.

Our View: Wells still expects to start upon his return but the Rockies currently have an abundance of options at Triple-A.
Kip Wells, P, Cincinnati RedsSaturday 6/21, 10:41 PM CT
Kip Wells, recovering from surgery to remove a blood clot from his right hand, threw 60 pitches in a simulated game Saturday, according to the AP. Manager Clint Hurdle said Wells will travel with the team to Kansas City and throw out of the bullpen.

Our View: It's not clear at this point when Wells will be back. He is expected to keep extending his pitch count in an effort to come back as a starter.
Kip Wells, P, Cincinnati RedsFriday 6/13, 8:45 AM CT
Kip Wells, who is recovering from blood clots in his right hand, is scheduled to throw the first of two bullpen sessions on Saturday, according to the Denver Post.

Our View: Live batting practice will follow next Friday. Wells plans to extend his pitch count on his rehab assignment to leave him in position to start when he returns from the DL.
Kip Wells, P, Cincinnati RedsMonday 5/19, 8:15 PM CT
Kip Wells had a blood clot removed from his right hand and he is progressing very well in his recovery, according to MLB.com. Wells hopes to be able to return in four to five weeks. This week, I think I can start doing upper body stuff," Wells said on Monday. "Next week, I think I'll start playing catch, depending on how stretched out I need to get."

Our View: Wells appears intent on returning as a reliever as that will allow him to get back in action sooner than if he has to build up more arm strength. He remains an option for waivers, not your roster, as he hasn't shown an ability to remain healthy and productive in years.
Kip Wells, P, Cincinnati RedsMonday 5/5, 8:53 AM CT
Kip Wells is scheduled to have surgery to remove blood clots in his pitching hand on Tuesday, according to the Denver Post. The Rockies are concerned because Wells has a history of circulation problems.

Our View: Wells was brought in to compete for a rotation job with Colorado, but a poor spring training relegated him to the bullpen. He then had a shot to replace the demoted Franklin Morales in the rotation following his demotion, but a trip to the DL ended that for him.
Kip Wells, P, Cincinnati RedsWednesday 4/30, 2:59 PM CT
Kip Wells has been placed on the 15-day DL with circulation problems in his throwing hand, according to MLB.com. The team called up infielder Jonathan Herrera from Triple-A Colorado Springs to fill his spot on the roster. Herrera started at second base today, and was brought in for depth as shortstop Troy Tulowitzki and second baseman Jeff Baker are both nursing injuries.

Our View: Wells had a shot to replace the demoted Franklin Morales in the Rockies' rotation, but his trip to the DL ended that.
Kip Wells, P, Cincinnati RedsTuesday 4/29, 10:33 PM CT
Kip Wells left the team Tuesday to return to Denver and see a specialist and undergo diagnostic tests on his right pitching hand, according to MLB.com. The club is concerned because of Wells' history with circulation issues.

Our View: Wells would have been a candidate to replace Franklin Morales in the rotation, but obviously that won't happen now - at least not right away. We'll let you know how Wells' tests go.
Kip Wells, P, Cincinnati RedsFriday 4/18, 7:16 AM CT
Kip Wells worked the final four innings of Thursday's 22-inning win over the Padres and picked up a win. He allowed only one hit, walked one, and struck out three.

Our View: The workload shouldn't faze Wells, who has been a starter nearly his entire career. He's pitching well in his long relief role this season.
Kip Wells, P, Cincinnati RedsTuesday 4/1, 11:40 PM CT
Kip Wells was solid in a spot start Tuesday, allowing one run on four hits and three walks while striking out three against his former team, the Cardinals. The righty picked up a no-decision in the 2-1 win. He was making the start because the Rockies chose to not move their pitchers up following Monday's rainout. Wells will head back to the bullpen.
Kip Wells, P, Cincinnati RedsSunday 3/23, 7:17 PM CT
The Rocky Mountain News reported on Sunday that Kip Wells will begin the season in the bullpen, leaving left handers Franklin Morales and Mark Redman, and right-hander Josh Towers to battle for the final two slots of the rotation. Currently Morales and Towers are the favorites to lock down the final two spots. Wells has no fantasy value as a middle reliever.
Kip Wells, P, Cincinnati RedsWednesday 3/12, 9:38 PM CT
RHP Kip Wells struggled in the Rockies' 4-1 loss to the White Sox in Cactus League action today, giving up four runs on nine hits through five innings, according to MLB.com. While the team remains optimistic about Wells' future, there are concerns. He spent much of '07 working with players on base and struggled as a result, and thus far this year he is finding it difficult to break the trend. "I saw him get outs when he was down and give up hits when he was up," said Rockies manager Clint Hurdle. Wells is battling with several candidates, including Franklin Morales, Mark Redman, and Josh Towers for the final two spots in the rotation, one of which could be filled once Jason Hirsh recovers from right shoulder pain. Outings like this leave major questions to be answered.
Kip Wells, P, Cincinnati RedsThursday 2/28, 7:16 PM CT
Kip Wells pitched two scoreless innings on Thursday as he attempts to earn a spot in their rotation a year after going 7-17 with a 5.70 ERA for the Cardinals. Wells figures to be one of the team's top-5 heading into the year, that is unless he implodes like he did last year.
Kip Wells, P, Cincinnati RedsThursday 12/13, 12:44 PM CT
Kip Wells signed a one-year deal with the Rockies Thursday. The contract is reportedly worth close to $3 million. Depending on what else the Rox do this offseason, Wells could end up starting or relieving in Colorado.
Kip Wells, P, Cincinnati RedsWednesday 9/5, 11:54 AM CT
Kip Wells' spot in the Cardinals starting rotation is in jeopardy, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. "We're talking about it. We are concerned about his last two starts. We're getting down to the end, and that's all I'll say based on that conversation," manager Tony La Russa said. "We're concerned. It's the same simple rule. If we feel like we've got a better shot, somebody else is going to pitch. He's pitched because we felt he was our best shot." Wells holds a 10.80 ERA over his last three starts. Should he be removed from the rotation, Brad Thompson is a candidate to replace him.
Kip Wells, P, Cincinnati RedsSunday 7/8, 8:55 PM CT
Kip Wells is heading back to the Cardinals rotation. Wells still sports an ugly 3-11 record and 5.92 ERA on the year, but he's allowed just two runs in 16 innings since being moved to the bullpen in mid June, according to the AP. "I think he's found better command and life on his fastball down in the zone," manager Tony La Russa said. Wells will get the start for the Redbirds in the first game after the break. Todd Wellemeyer will move to the pen to make room for Wells in the rotation.
Kip Wells, P, Cincinnati RedsThursday 6/28, 11:48 AM CT
Kip Wells is headed to the bullpen and may remain there. He was available as a reliever on Wednesday, and Brad Thompson will start in his spot on Friday. "Obviously, it's not what I set out to do here," Wells tells the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. "But if that's where they need me and they think this is where I'll be most effective and helpful for the time being, that's fine. I don't know about long-term. I don't know about that."
Kip Wells, P, Cincinnati RedsSunday 6/3, 9:43 PM CT
Kip Wells isn't in danger of losing his job in the rotation, despite suffering his league-leading 10th loss on Saturday. Manager Tony La Russa thinks it would be a mistake to take Wells out of the rotation or send him down to the minors, according to the AP. "We'll do anything and everything to get him right," La Russa said.
Kip Wells, P, Cincinnati RedsThursday 3/29, 5:06 PM CT
Kip Wells gave up two runs (one earned) over 6 1/3 innings Thursday while striking out seven. Wells ended the spring with a 1.16 ERA. "How about the whole spring by Kip? He's been impressive," manager Tony La Russa told the AP. "He's got a lot of weapons."
Kip Wells, P, Cincinnati RedsTuesday 3/13, 5:41 PM CT
Kip Wells gave up two hits and a walk while striking out three in three scoreless innings Tuesday. He has yet to give up a run in eight spring innings and has struck out seven against just two walks. Wells is trying to rebound this year after an injury-plagued 2006 when he posted a 6.50 ERA in nine starts.
Kip Wells, P, Cincinnati RedsTuesday 11/28, 4:06 PM CT
The Cardinals officially signed Kip Wells to a one-year contract worth $4 million, according to the AP. Wellls will be the latest reclamation project for pitching coach Dave Duncan.
Kip Wells, P, Cincinnati RedsTuesday 11/28, 2:08 PM CT
Bernie Miklasz of the St. Louis Post Dispatch is reporting that the Cardinals have signed Kip Wells. There is no word on the terms of the deal.
Kip Wells, P, Cincinnati RedsFriday 9/1, 8:17 PM CT
Kip Wells had surgery on Friday to repair a ligament in his left foot, according to the AP. Wells, who is a free agent at the end of the season, is expected to start throwing again in December.
Kip Wells, P, Cincinnati RedsTuesday 8/29, 9:29 PM CT
Kip Wells will miss the rest of the season with a foot injury, according to the AP. Wells said Tuesday he will have surgery within the next week on his right foot, which he sprained on an awkward follow-through against Seattle on Aug. 11. He was placed on the disabled list Aug. 15, but the foot didn't respond to treatment. A foot specialist recommended surgery. "The goal now is to get it fixed and get healthy again," Wells said.
Kip Wells, P, Cincinnati RedsWednesday 8/16, 11:53 AM CT
Although it doesn't appear that it will be necessary as of now, if the sprained left foot of Kip Wells doesn't make much progress over the next three weeks, Wells could need season-ending surgery, according to the Rangers website. Wells sprained his foot shortly after coming off the DL from shoulder soreness.
Kip Wells, P, Cincinnati RedsWednesday 8/16, 9:14 AM CT
Kip Wells said his sprained left foot likely will keep him out of action for three weeks, according to the Star-Telegram. The Rangers placed Wells on the disabled list yesterday. John Koronka or Robinson Tejeda likely will be recalled to start in place of Wells on Saturday.
Kip Wells, P, Cincinnati RedsTuesday 8/15, 4:12 PM CT
The Rangers placed Kip Wells on the DL with a sprained left foot on Monday, according to the AP. He had recently been activated from the disabled list after recovering from shoulder soreness. Scott Feldman was called up to take Wells' place on the roster.
Kip Wells, P, Cincinnati RedsMonday 8/14, 8:47 AM CT
The Star-Telegram reports that Kip Wells will not make his scheduled start on Thursday due to his sprained left foot. He had a precautionary MRI taken yesterday and will be further examined by a specialist today. It's not clear when Wells will make his next start, though manager Buck Showalter hopes it will be Saturday.
Kip Wells, P, Cincinnati RedsSunday 8/13, 9:29 AM CT
Although Kip Wells believes he will make his next scheduled start, manager Buck Showalter is not so sure, according to the Dallas Morning News. "Kip is a little better," Showalter said of Wells, who twisted his foot in Friday's start. "But it's too early in the process to tell anything. Fortunately, we've got an extra day to play with if we need it."
Kip Wells, P, Cincinnati RedsSaturday 8/12, 9:23 PM CT
Kip Wells, who left Friday's start after twisting his left foot, believes he will be able to make his next turn in the rotation, according to the AP. Wells had recently been activated from the DL with shoulder soreness.

Kip Wells, P, Cincinnati RedsSunday 8/6, 9:33 PM CT
Kip Wells flew back to Texas to have his sore shoulder examined and will miss his scheduled start on Monday, according to the AP. "He's has some soreness flare up behind his shoulder," manager Buck Showalter said. "It's the first time he's felt it all year. He said he felt a little fatigue there after the fifth inning in Minnesota. It just hasn't abated enough for us to feel comfortable pitching him tomorrow."
