Matt Wise, P, New York MetsSaturday 6/14, 9:02 AM CT
Matt Wise will be held out of baseball activities in the foreseeable future, the New York Post reports. He is on the DL due to a sore right shoulder and hasn't pitched since May 26.

Our View: The Mets appeared to make a good move when they inked this veteran reliever last December. Like many things for the Mets, this move has also gone awry. Wise has no fantasy value.

Matt Wise, who is on the DL with right rotator cuff tendinitis, was examined Thursday by orthopedist Dr. Lewis Yocum in Los Angeles, according to Newsday.

Our View: The Mets are still awaiting his diagnosis and treatment options for him. Wise allowed five earned runs and 10 hits over seven innings in relief this season, and is not worth waiting for as a fantasy performer.

Matt Wise is going to get a second opinion on his ailing right rotator cuff (tendinitis), according to MLB.com. Manager Willie Randolph said, "It must be relatively serious. I don't know if he's going to be out of the year, but he's going to be out a couple months, probably."

Our View: Wise's ailment is related to a nerve problem in the back of his shoulder that makes his arm feel as if he's throwing underwater, and could be out two to three months, as Randolph noted. Wise allowed five runs and 10 hits over seven innings in relief this season, and is not worth waiting for as a fantasy performer.

Matt Wise is expected to be activated from the DL on Thursday, according to MetsBlog. Luis Castillo could be placed on the DL to make room for Wise.

Our View: Wise has been on the DL since April 2 with a bruised right forearm. He will fight for playing time out of the Mets' bullpen when he returns, and his fantasy value will be limited.

Matt Wise is ready to return to the Mets' bullpen, but Manager Willie Randolph is yet to pull the trigger with a move, according to the NY Daily News. Randolph said, "He's ready, I guess, but we're not ready to make that roster move yet. Could be today, could be Sunday or Monday. But I would say in the very near future." Wise added, "I want to able to help them as much as I can in this five-month span and then the playoffs. I'm kind of hanging out."

Our View: Wise has recovered from a bruised right forearm, but his return is delayed because Randolph can not decide who he wants to drop from the team to free up a roster spot. Randolph does not want to demote Joe Smith or Nelson Figueroa, and doesn't want to compromise depth among his hitters on the bench in case Carlos Beltran, Moises Alou, or Luis Castillo need a day off to rest. Either way, Wise's fantasy value will be limited while working out of a crowded Mets' pen.

The Mets are ready to bring Matt Wise back, and like the idea of having a fresh arm for their bullpen, according to MetsBlog. The Mets have seven relief pitchers on the roster, but Manager Willie Randolph said he prefers to have eight relievers on the team, and would play short on the bench (with hitters).

Our View: Randolph wants Wise, but doesn't want to demote Joe Smith or Nelson Figueroa. Wise's fantasy value will be limited while working out of a crowded Mets' pen.

He surrendered a game-winning home run to Florida's Robert Andino in his last outing and commented, "I've had three elbow surgeries, and this doesn't feel like anything."
