Mike Redmond, C, Cleveland IndiansFriday 1/15, 9:37 AM CT
Mike Redmond has signed a one-year deal with the Cleveland Indians to be the club's back-up catcher in 2010, according to MLBlogs.com.

Our View: He is the first player Cleveland has signed to a major league deal this offseason. He will serve as the young Lou Marson's back-up after hitting .237 in 145 at-bats with the Twins in 2009. It could be a long season behind the plate in Cleveland.

Twins' GM Bill Smith stated that Mike Redmond will not be a member of the team in 2010, according to the Pioneer Press.

Our View: The 38-year-old catcher served five seasons in Minnesota. Jose Morales and Drew Butera are currently the top candidates to serve as the primary backup behind stud Joe Mauer for next season.

Mike Redmond, C, Cleveland IndiansThursday 5/7, 12:08 AM CT
Making a start with Joe Mauer getting a day off to rest, Mike Redmond had two hits in two at-bats for the Twins on Wednesday night.

Our View: Redmond is hitting only .265 through 34 at-bats, and with the return of Mauer to the lineup he will resume his spot as a potentially valuable second catcher in AL-only leagues.
Mike Redmond, C, Cleveland IndiansThursday 4/30, 11:43 AM CT
Mike Redmond resists going on the DL with his sore right shoulder, according to the Star Tribune.

Our View: He feels better today and is hopeful of being available to play Friday, but the club may still send him to the DL, with Joe Mauer returning Friday and with backup Jose Morales hitting well.
Mike Redmond, C, Cleveland IndiansWednesday 4/29, 7:20 PM CT
Mike Redmond had an MRI on his shoulder on Wednesday that revealed no structural damage, according to the Miami Herald. He has not played since Saturday and says the shoulder has been bothering him for a few weeks.

Our View: Redmond is helping out at catcher as the team waits on Joe Mauer to return from a back injury. He does not have any fantasy value.
Mike Redmond, C, Cleveland IndiansWednesday 4/8, 10:45 AM CT
Mike Redmond could land on the 15-day DL if his pulled groin doesn't show improvement today, according to the Star Tribune. Manager Ron Gardenhire said, "Right now he is OK. And that is barely OK."

Our View: If Redmond is placed on the DL, Jose Morales will likely replace him as the starting catcher. The team would also likely recalled Drew Butera from Triple-A for depth. There remains no timetable for Joe Mauer's (back) return.

Catcher Mike Redmond sat out Tuesday's game against Seattle with a pulled groin, the Associated Press reports.

Our View: Redmond, who is scheduled to be re-evaluated on Wednesday, is available to catch in an emergency on Tuesday. Thrust into the full-time role because of the injury to Joe Mauer, Redmond said he would try to play with through the pain.

Mike Redmond injured his right groin when running to second base on his fifth-inning double in Monday's game, according to the Star Tribune. He said, "I am a little concerned. A little more than normal. I know the situation we are in, of course. We are just going to wait and see and hopefully it feels better today."

Our View: The club cannot afford to lose Redmond as he is replacing the injured Joe Mauer at catcher. If Redmond is forced to miss time, Jose Morales would likely fill in, and the Twins could recall Drew Butera from Triple-A for depth.
Mike Redmond, C, Cleveland IndiansFriday 3/20, 3:56 PM CT
Mike Redmond went 1-for-2 with an RBI double in Friday's 4-2 loss to the Yankees.

Our View: Redmond is the likely No. 1 catcher for opening day with Joe Mauer not expected to be ready due to his ailing back. Redmond has very little power, but is a career .292 hitter. He is worth targeting in AL-only leagues.
Mike Redmond, C, Cleveland IndiansThursday 10/9, 11:03 AM CT
The Twins exercised Mike Redmond's option for the 2009 season, according to the AP.

Our View: The 37-year-old catcher hit .287 over 129 at-bats in 2007, and the club felt he will be a worthy backup for Joe Mauer next season.
Mike Redmond, C, Cleveland IndiansThursday 10/2, 2:06 PM CT
It is likely that the Minnesota Twins will pick up the $950,00 option for next year on Mike Redmond's contract, according to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune.

Our View: Redmond, the team's backup catcher, hit .287 with no home runs and 12 RBI in 129 at-bats. Joe Mauer sees most of the playing time, eliminating any possible fantasy value Redmond holds.
Mike Redmond, C, Cleveland IndiansWednesday 8/20, 3:19 PM CT
Mike Redmond led the Twins in Wednesday's 3-1 win over the Athletics, as he went 2-for-4 with two RBI. He accounted for two (both singles) of the Twins' six hits in the game.

Mike Redmond will start at DH for the Twins on Tuesday night. The backup catcher is 12-for-23 over his career against Indians starter C.C. Sabathia, the Minneapolis Star Tribune notes.

Our View: You'd never guess that Redmond is a tough out for an ace like Sabathia, but baseball is a funny game sometimes.

Mike Redmond won't play again this season. An MRI found no structural damage in his sore middle finger, but the ligament is strained enough to keep him from playing again down the stretch, according to the St. Paul Pioneer Press.
