Scott Linebrink, P, Chicago White SoxTuesday 8/18, 8:25 PM CT
Scott Linebrink is being demoted from his setup role with the Sox, according to MLB.com. Linebrink has been struggling as of late, and skipper Ozzie Guillen said, "It is just because I want him to relax a little bit more, do not feel like every time he is on the spot, 'Oh my God, I have got to throw the ball well."

Our View: The Sox are trying to get Linebrink back on track, and he is not worth using in fantasy leagues that award points for holds right now. Octavio Dotel and Tony Pena will be considered for the setup role, as well as D.J. Carrasco.
Scott Linebrink, P, Chicago White SoxFriday 1/30, 10:12 AM CT
Scott Linebrink has resumed throwing for the first time in the off-season Thursday since suffering from shoulder inflammation, according to the Chicago Tribune. He said, "Rest was the biggest thing. It was not something I was going to work through. From the middle of October to the end of December, I did not pick up a baseball. Flexibility always has been an issue with me. I have to do everything I can to make sure I have good range of motion and sound mechanics."

Our View: He is progressing at a steady pace, and could regain his status as a solid setup man in 2009 if healthy.

Updating an earlier story, Scott Linebrink's throwing session went well on Monday, so well that the reliever was activated from the DL, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: Linebrink has been out since late July because of inflammation in his shoulder. He performed very well prior to ending up on the shelf (2.31 ERA, 0.92 WHIP), and should reclaim a role of importance in the team's bullpen down the stretch, though his fantasy value will be restricted to AL-only leagues.

White Sox reliever Scott Linebrink will throw a simulated game today, and should everything go well, could be activated from the disabled list by Wednesday, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

Our View: Linebrink has been sidelined with shoulder inflammation, but was a key part of the Chicago bullpen, with a 0.92 WHIP and 2.31 ERA.
Scott Linebrink, P, Chicago White SoxMonday 8/25, 10:10 PM CT
Scott Linebrink tossed 25 pitches in a bullpen session on Monday, and he will soon throw a simulated game, according to WhiteSox.com. "I don't know if I'd say I'm feeling better. I think the ball coming out of my hand today was a little better," Lienbrink said.

Our View: It's hardly encouraging news if Linebrink isn't feeling better. Nonetheless, he will solider on, rehabbing his shoulder with hopes of returning to the team sometime in September.
Scott Linebrink, P, Chicago White SoxMonday 8/11, 9:20 PM CT
Scott Linebrink continues a slow progression with his injured shoulder and the team is hopeful that he will be ready to go by September 1st, according to MLB.com. "It's not 100 percent by any means. We're battling through some stuff and there's some discomfort, but that's part of it. I just have to accept that and work through it."

Our View: Linebrink's problems are all muscular, which at this point is good news. This injury has put a halt to a great first season in Chicago as Linebrink has posted a 2.31 ERA and a 0.92 WHIP.
Scott Linebrink, P, Chicago White SoxFriday 8/8, 11:51 AM CT
Scott Linebrink isn't close to throwing a bullpen session, this according to the Chicago Tribune. The report noted that the White Sox set up man isn't expected to be available until late August at the earliest.

Our View: Linebrink even refused to offer up a possible return when asked. His fantasy value rested in leagues that awarded holds, and as a possible replacement if an untimely injury were to strike Jenks.
Scott Linebrink, P, Chicago White SoxMonday 8/4, 2:00 PM CT
Scott Linebrink, who is recovering from right shoulder inflammation, has increased the distance in his throwing program from 90 feet to 120, according to the Chicago Tribune. He said, "I had some zip on the ball. It's just a matter of getting through the mental side of it. Your body wants to protect things that are hurt, so I have to get through that to the point where I can get out there and let it go without thinking about it."

Our View: The team is hopeful their top setup man can be ready to return in mid-August.
Scott Linebrink, P, Chicago White SoxThursday 7/31, 9:36 AM CT
Scott Linebrink, suffering from right shoulder inflammation, will play catch this weekend and start "stretching it out," according to the Chicago Sun-Times. Linebrink said Monday that a best-case scenario would be a mid-August return. However, he was a bit more optimistic Wednesday. "We will just play it by ear," Linebrink said. "When I mentioned that the other day ... that was before we started doing anything. We will see how it goes as we are getting into it. But if things go great, we might be able to skip a step here or there. At the same time, we are going to make sure things are where they need to be."

Our View: The Sox are worried enough about Scott that they have been looking for relief help. We'll continue to update his progress.
Scott Linebrink, P, Chicago White SoxWednesday 7/30, 8:13 PM CT
Scott Linebrink has responded well to treatment on his injured shoulder, according to MLB.com. Up until this point he has merely been lifting weights, but he should start playing catch this weekend with a return date of sometime in mid-August likely.

Our View: The Sox really miss what Linebrink brought to the table this year which is why there have been rumors of a Huston Street to Chicago deal in the press.
Scott Linebrink, P, Chicago White SoxTuesday 7/29, 8:47 AM CT
Scott Linebrink has yet to pick up a baseball and is targeting a mid-August return as a best-case scenario, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. "When you talk about not touching a ball for seven days, that's half of [a 15-day DL stint] right there," Linebrink said. "Once we do start playing catch, I don't see a week later me being on the mound or in a game. It probably will be a couple of weeks of a throwing program and a bullpen." Linebrink is coming back from right shoulder inflammation.

Our View: Octavio Dotel will continue to set up while Linebrink is sidelined.
Scott Linebrink, P, Chicago White SoxSaturday 7/26, 12:59 PM CT
The Chicago White Sox have placed reliever Scott Linebrink on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to July 23rd, according to ChicagoSports.com.

Our View: Linebrink was dianosed with inflammation of the posterior of his right shoulder. Linebrink said after Friday's 6-5 win over Detroit that he suffered from stiffness and that the discomfort was at the back of his shoulder. He has pitched only once since July 8th. This means that D.J. Carrasco will take over the seventh inning duties, with Octavio Dotel taking over the setup duties. Reliever Ehren Wassermann was recalled from Triple-A Charlotte to take Linebrink's spot on the roster.
Scott Linebrink, P, Chicago White SoxWednesday 7/23, 7:21 PM CT
Scott Linebrink, who missed about two weeks with some shoulder soreness, didn't feel any lingering affect after making an appearance on Tuesday, according to MLB.com. "Now, it's a matter of the layoff contributing to being rusty out there," said Linebrink.

Our View: With Bobby Jenks back in the closers role, and Octavio Dotel continuing to mow down hitters, Linebrink should have some time to work back into the form that has led to a 2.31 ERA and 0.92 WHIP over 39 innings this season.
Scott Linebrink, P, Chicago White SoxFriday 7/18, 12:02 PM CT
Scott Linebrink is worth a roster spot for those who own Bobby Jenks. If the Sox closer were to re-injure his back Linebrink, not Octavio Dotel, is the most likely candidate to receive the ball in the ninth inning.

Our View: Linebrink has bounced back from a poor 2007 campaign. His 2.37 ERA, 7.6 K/9, and a 1.4 BB/9 are solid. And while he might not have the typical strike out numbers of an elite closer, it is his ground ball to fly ball ratio that should be the major concern with Linebrink.
Scott Linebrink, P, Chicago White SoxTuesday 7/8, 11:54 PM CT
With Bobby Jenks on the DL, the White Sox turned to Scott Linebrink to get the save in the 11th inning on Tuesday. However, he gave up two runs on three hits allowing the Royals to tie the score.

Our View: Ozzie Guillen has a deep bullpen to pick a replacement closer out of, but he made the wrong choice on Tuesday. Expect him to experiment with other relievers in the role until Jenks returns.
Scott Linebrink, P, Chicago White SoxSaturday 5/17, 11:48 PM CT
Scott Linebrink, who has become the primary setup man for the White Sox, pitched the eighth before giving way to Bobby Jenks who worked the ninth for his 10th save in 12 chances on Saturday night.

Our View: Linebrink, after having a disappointing 2007 campaign, has returned to the form that made him the onetime closer to replace the ageless Trevor Hoffman. Linebrink has 11 strikouts in 18 innings, has allowed three runs and walked five, and his 1.47 ERA with an occasional save opportunity this season, makes him a solid option in deep formats.
Scott Linebrink, P, Chicago White SoxFriday 11/23, 10:20 AM CT
Scott Linebrink signed a four-year, $19 million contract with the White Sox on Thursday. Linebrink, who had sort of a down year in 2007, holding a 3.71 ERA and 1.32 WHIP, will serve as a setup man for closer Bobby Jenks. The Brewers will receive a second-round pick as a result of the signing.
Scott Linebrink, P, Chicago White SoxThursday 11/22, 10:48 AM CT
The White Sox appear close to strengthening their bullpen. Chicago radio station ESPN 100 reports the team has agreed to a four-year, $19 million with reliever Scott Linebrink and MLB.com says the deal will be official once a physical is complete. Linebrink doesn’t figure to get many save opportunities with Bobby Jenks blocking his path. However, should anything happen to the husky incumbent, Linebrink will likely be the guy who gets the ball in the ninth.

The Brewers acquired Scott Linebrink from the Padres on Wednesday in exchange for three minor league pitchers - Will Inman, a third-round pick in June 2005; left-hander Steve Garrison, a 10th-round pick in 2005; and 25-year-old left-hander Joe Thatcher, according to the AP. Linebrink, who had just been removed from the setup role in San Diego after allowing eight runs in his last 7 2/3 innings of work, will serve as a setup man to Francisco Cordero in Milwaukee.
Scott Linebrink, P, Chicago White SoxWednesday 7/25, 12:08 PM CT
Scott Linebrink has allowed eight runs in his last 7 2/3 innings of work, and manager Bud Black plans to temporarily remove him from the setup role. "I talked to Scott about a number of things," manager Bud Black told the San Diego Union-Tribune. "I told him it might be time to take a step back and not be used exclusively in the eighth and the ninth." Linebrink could work his way back into the setup role at some point, but Heath Bell will handle that role for the time being.
Scott Linebrink, P, Chicago White SoxSaturday 5/26, 2:36 AM CT
Scott Linebrink pitched a perfect ninth inning for a save Friday, getting the call as Trevor Hoffman rested his "cranky" arm, the AP reports. Hoffman says he's essentially day-to-day.

Contract talks between Scott Linebrink and the Padres appear to have broken off for now, according to the team's official site. Linebrink can become a free agent after the 2007 season.

The Padres and Phillies have discussed a deal involving Scott Linebrink and Aaron Rowand, but they will wait to make any such trade, according to the Union-Tribune. "It might be something we discuss again later this spring," Padres General Manager Kevin Towers said. "But right now I want to see what we have in spring training. I want to see how (outfielder) Terrmel Sledge plays and how our bullpen shapes up."
