Kyle Farnsworth, P, Kansas City RoyalsMonday 3/8, 7:13 PM CT
Kyle Farnsworth was lit up for five earned runs over a mere 1.2 innings in Monday's 14-5 preseason loss to the Reds. He had three walks and two strikeouts.

Our View: The Royals are considering using Farnsworth in the rotation - but may rethink that option following today's disastrous outing.
Kyle Farnsworth, P, Kansas City RoyalsWednesday 2/24, 11:54 PM CT
The Royals are looking at Kyle Farnsworth as a possible starter for their rotation, according to the Kansas City Star. Skipper Trey Hillman said, "It is out of the box. I get it. But I was interested in getting outside of the box with him after we saw the life last season in his two-seamer (fastball)."

Our View: Farnsworth has added a change-up to his arsenal of pitches, and the club has been pleased with it in the early going. The 33-year-old vet is a power pitcher, and a good change-up could cause fits for opposing hitters. He worked as a reliever last year, but is being checked out as a possible starter, as the Royals lack depth or MLB-ready prospects in their farm system. If Farnsworth does manage to win a rotation spot, he would be worth a look for AL-only leagues.
Kyle Farnsworth, P, Kansas City RoyalsThursday 2/11, 7:58 AM CT
According to MLB.com, the Royals are going to give Kyle Farnsworth a shot at earning a rotation spot this spring.

Our View: This is the same fireballing Kyle Farnsworth known for little control and not so much being a pitcher as he is a thrower. Things may be even worse in Kansas City than we previously thought. Be sure to monitor this story all spring.
Kyle Farnsworth, P, Kansas City RoyalsTuesday 8/18, 3:16 PM CT
The Kansas City Star is reporting that the Royals have activated reliever Kyle Farnsworth off the DL. To make room on the roster, the team optioned third baseman Alex Gordon to Triple-A Omaha.

Our View: Farnsworth is 1-4 with a 4.24 ERA this season, but he has managed to strike out 25 in 23.1 innings. Strikeouts have never been a problem for the hard-thrower, but he tends to give up a lot of runs and usually in bad situations. No fantasy value here unless you are in a deep AL-only league and are desperate for strikeouts.
Kyle Farnsworth, P, Kansas City RoyalsSaturday 8/8, 11:09 AM CT
According to MLB.com, Royals' injured reliever Kyle Farnsworth had a successful bullpen session on Thursday and will throw another on Sunday before resuming another rehab assignment. Farnsworth is on the DL with a right groin srain.

Our View: Farnsworth suffered a setback a little over a week ago, but it looks like he is back on track now. He should be able to rejoin the bullpen soon barring another setback, but he will still hold very little fantasy value.
Kyle Farnsworth, P, Kansas City RoyalsFriday 7/31, 7:38 PM CT
Kyle Farnsworth has suffered a setback in his recovery from a torn groin muscle, according to MLB.com. Royals' skipper Trey Hillman said, "He had one outing and it went good, but he experienced some tightness in his groin and did not have his outing Thursday night."

Our View: Farnsworth has returned to Kansas City for evaluation, and we will keep you posted on the veteran reliever's status. He could be a viable source for strikeouts among relievers if healthy.
Kyle Farnsworth, P, Kansas City RoyalsMonday 7/27, 9:43 AM CT
Royals' reliever Kyle Farnsworth is expected to begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Omaha on Tuesday, according to MLB.com. Farnsworth has been on the DL since June 26 with a torn groin muscle.

Our View: Farnsworth is expected to throw one inning on Tuesday and then pitch again on Thursday, and he will be evaluated again by the team after those two outings. When he does return, he can be a decent strikeout guy out of the bullpen, but his history of allowing too many runs hurts any fantasy value his power arm might provide.
Kyle Farnsworth, P, Kansas City RoyalsFriday 6/26, 4:16 PM CT
Kyle Farnsworth has been placed on the 15-day DL due to a partial tear and grade-two strain in his right groin, according to the Kansas City Star. Bruce Chen has been recalled from Triple-A Omaha as the adjoining move.

Our View: Farnsworth holds a poor 4.24 ERA over 23.1 innings, but has been a decent source for strikeouts among middle relievers with 25.
Kyle Farnsworth, P, Kansas City RoyalsThursday 6/25, 7:35 PM CT
Updating an earlier report, it has been revealed that Kyle Farnsworth is dealing with a grade-2 tear in a muscle in his groin area, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Farnsworth is very sore, and is uncertain how the injury will affect his status with the Royals. No roster moves have been announced, as the club is yet to decide if he needs to spend time on the DL.
Kyle Farnsworth, P, Kansas City RoyalsThursday 6/25, 2:15 PM CT
According to MLB.com, Royals' reliever Kyle Farnsworth will undergo tests on Thursday after leaving Wednesday night's game with an apparent groin injury. The Royals will determine his status based on the test results, but a trip to the DL is a possibility.

Our View: The Royals have held off naming a starting pitcher for Saturday, because they may call up a pitcher to start if Farnsworth heads to the DL. He was said to be walking under his own power today, but it seems like a DL trip could be in the future.
Kyle Farnsworth, P, Kansas City RoyalsTuesday 6/16, 7:44 PM CT
Kyle Farnsworth has been bitten by one of his dogs Tuesday and needed four stitches in his left index finger, according to MLB.com.

Our View: He was bitten on his non-pitching hand, and said he is able to play. He was injured while breaking up a fight between his two American bulldogs.
Kyle Farnsworth, P, Kansas City RoyalsSunday 4/19, 6:06 PM CT
Kyle Farnsworth threw two pitches in the ninth inning as the Royals fell to the Rangers 6-5 on Sunday. His second pitch was hit over the fence by Michael Young for a game-winning home run.

Our View: Farnsworth is already 0-3 and he should be losing his setup job to Juan Cruz. He has no fantasy value, and appears to be a free-agent bust.
Kyle Farnsworth, P, Kansas City RoyalsThursday 4/9, 12:36 PM CT
Kyle Farnsworth was rocked for three earned runs in his lone appearance this season (against the White Sox), but manager Trey Hillman still has faith in him as the Royals' setup man, according to the Kansas City Star. Hillman said, "I do not have it in the plans to change Kyle from being a seventh- or eighth-inning guy. But Ron Mahay, Juan Cruz and Farnsworth knew coming in that they could be mixed and matched in the seventh and eighth innings."

Our View: Farnsworth will be given a chance to bounce back, but Hillman will likely lose patience with him if he continues to struggle.
Kyle Farnsworth, P, Kansas City RoyalsWednesday 4/8, 7:32 PM CT
MLB.com reports that Kyle Farnsworth's setup role is not in jeopardy, despite allowing four hits and three earned runs in Tuesday's game against the White Sox.

Our View: The Royals would probably be better off going with Juan Cruz or Ron Mahay but manager Trey Hillman looks like he'll stay with the overpaid free-agent acquisition. This is why they are the Royals.
Kyle Farnsworth, P, Kansas City RoyalsMonday 4/6, 8:39 PM CT
The Kansas City Star reports that reliever Kyle Farnsworth will be the Royals setup man this season.

Our View: Juan Cruz and Ron Mahay are other options, but following Farnsworth's nice spring it appears that this job is his to lose. If closer Joakim Soria were to ever miss time due to injury, Farnsworth figures to be his replacement.
Kyle Farnsworth, P, Kansas City RoyalsThursday 12/11, 7:13 AM CT
Kyle Farnsworth has reportedly agreed to a two-year deal with the Royals worth $9.25 million, according to ESPN. The signing is pending a physical.

Our View: Farnsworth held a poor 1.52 WHIP over 60.1 innings of relief in 2008, but the 32-year-old could benefit from a fresh start in Kansas City and provide adequate depth to their pen.
Kyle Farnsworth, P, Kansas City RoyalsThursday 12/4, 1:19 PM CT
Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports believes the Royals may pursue reliever Kyle Farnsworth.

Our View: Farnsworth held a 1.52 WHIP over 60.1 innings of relief in 2008, but the righty would provide adequate depth to the Royals' bullpen.
Kyle Farnsworth, P, Kansas City RoyalsTuesday 9/16, 4:56 PM CT
Kyle Farnsworth lost his first game since joining the Tigers on Monday. Entering the game in the bottom of the eighth with an 8-7 lead, he allowed seven baserunners and four runs while recording just two outs.

Our View: Farnsworth has now given up six earned runs on six hits and three walks while getting his last three outs. The 32-year-old had been pitching relatively well for Detroit before the recent implosion.
Kyle Farnsworth, P, Kansas City RoyalsMonday 8/18, 1:35 PM CT
Kyle Farnsworth was unavailable to pitch Sunday due to back stiffness, according to the Detroit Free Press. Manager Jim Leyland commented, "Our bullpen's in total disarray. It has been all year."

Our View: Farnsworth hopes to be available Monday for the series opener against the Rangers.
Kyle Farnsworth, P, Kansas City RoyalsWednesday 7/30, 3:44 PM CT
Kyle Farnsworth has been traded to the Tigers in exchange for catcher Ivan Rodriguez, according to ESPN.

Our View: Farnsworth will help an ailing Tigers' pen, and his numbers should benefit from playing his home games at pitcher-friendly Comerica Park. Farns could emerge as a candidate to close out games if Fernando Rodney struggles and Joel Zumaya cannot bounce back healthy.
Kyle Farnsworth, P, Kansas City RoyalsWednesday 7/16, 10:33 PM CT
Kyle Farnsworth has settled into a setup role in the Yankees lineup quite well since Joba Chamberlain was placed in the rotation posting a 2.30 ERA and 1.15 WHIP over his last 17 appearances.

Our View: Farnsworth certainly has the stuff to dominate hitters in any given appearance, but he has long had a troubling trend of doing the absolute worst thing at the absolute worst time. Lately, he has avoided those costly errors, and his production has been tremendous for those who have him rostered in leagues that count holds.
Kyle Farnsworth, P, Kansas City RoyalsSunday 6/22, 6:05 PM CT
Updating an earlier report, Kyle Farnsworth needed three stitches on his right hand to close a wound that was the result of trying to snare a batted ball barehanded, according to MLB.com. Farsnworth doesn't think he will need to be placed on the DL.

Our View: Farnsworth is now a key component of the Yankees bullpen with Joba Chamberlain in the starting rotation, so if he were to be out for an extended period of time, the Yankees thin pen would be in trouble.
Kyle Farnsworth, P, Kansas City RoyalsSunday 6/22, 4:06 PM CT
Kyle Farnsworth injured his right hand in the eighth inning against the Reds on Sunday and had to be removed from the game, according to the Associated Press.

Kyle Farnsworth, P, Kansas City RoyalsSaturday 6/14, 8:06 AM CT
Kyle Farnsworth got the save for the Yankees on Friday night because Mariano Rivera had worked five times in the last six days, Newsday confirms.

Our View: Fantasy owners shouldn't read anything into the save, other than that Farnsworth is healthy and is the likely top option should something happen to Rivera.
Kyle Farnsworth, P, Kansas City RoyalsTuesday 6/10, 11:07 AM CT
Kyle Farnsworth was unavailable Monday for the third straight game due to soreness in his right bicep, according to the NY Daily News.

Our View: The Farns should be back out there shortly.
Kyle Farnsworth, P, Kansas City RoyalsMonday 6/9, 11:04 AM CT
Kyle Farnsworth was given a second-straight day off on Sunday to rest a "cranky" right bicep he suffered following his last outing, according to the NY Daily News.

Our View: Farnsworth holds no fantasy value, as he allowed 14 runs and 34 hits over 28.1 innings of relief, with a 1.59 WHIP.
Kyle Farnsworth, P, Kansas City RoyalsMonday 6/2, 9:42 PM CT
Kyle Farnsworth took the loss on Monday when he allowed three hits and one run in the eighth inning against the Twins. The reliever had served up 12 hits and seven runs over his last seven appearances.

Our View: Joba Chamberlain is moving to the rotation, huh? The Yankees may need to begin leaning on someone other than Farnsworth in the eighth inning. Edwar Ramirez comes to mind.
Kyle Farnsworth, P, Kansas City RoyalsFriday 5/9, 12:11 PM CT
Kyle Farnsworth's suspension has been cut from three games to one on Friday, according to the AP. John McHale Jr., executive VP for administration in the commissioner’s office, heard Farnsworth’s appeal Tuesday. Farnsworth was to serve the suspension Friday, baseball spokesman Rich Levin said.

Our View: Farnsworth wasn’t ejected and said the ball slipped when he threw the ball behind Manny Ramirez. Farnsworth will serve his suspension tonight, and then can move on with his season.
Kyle Farnsworth, P, Kansas City RoyalsMonday 5/5, 10:18 AM CT
Kyle Farnsworth's appeal of his three-game suspension will be heard on Tuesday, according to the NY Daily News. To refresh your memory, Farnsworth was suspended three games and fined $2,000 for throwing behind Manny Ramirez's head during battle with the hated rival Red Sox.

Our View: If the ruling doesn't go in his favor on Tuesday, Farnsworth could begin serving his suspension that night.
Kyle Farnsworth, P, Kansas City RoyalsSunday 4/20, 2:49 PM CT
Kyle Farnsworth was suspended three games and fined $2,000 on Saturday for throwing behind Ramirez's head in the seventh inning Thursday night in New York, according to the NY Daily News. He claims the wild pitch wasn't intentional, but Major League Baseball thinks otherwise. Farnsworth commented, "Intentionally, huh? The ball slipped. As far as I know, I didn't hit him. If I'm going to hit someone, it's not going to be in the head, that's for sure. I don't want to endanger anybody's career. That's definitely not an area to throw at."

Our View: The punishment was set to begin with Saturday's game in Baltimore, though the pitcher appealed the suspension, allowing him to remain active until he has a hearing with the league.
Kyle Farnsworth, P, Kansas City RoyalsSaturday 4/19, 11:27 AM CT
Reports indicate Yankee pitcher Kyle Farnsworth is likely to receive notice of a league-mandated suspension after an incident against the Boston Red Sox on Thursday, according to the New York Daily News.

Our View: It is believed Farnsworth will be suspended for three games and fined $2,000 for throwing behind Boston LF Manny Ramirez's head in the seventh inning of that game. The pitcher was not ejected from the game, but both teams were warned by home plate umpire Larry Vanover, and now the league believes further punishment is deemed necessary.
Kyle Farnsworth, P, Kansas City RoyalsFriday 2/15, 8:28 AM CT
With Joba Chamberlain slated to set up Mariano Rivera and LaTroy Hawkins in line for the seventh inning, the Yankees could deem Kyle Farnsworth expendable, according to the NY Post. Of course, that's assuming another team is willing to take on Farns' $5.75 million salary and mediocre production.

"I could've gone out and pitched, but better safe than sorry," Farnsworth said. "I was throwing, I felt fine. It's the same thing it's been doing before. I've pitched with it and I've pitched without it. It's not a big deal." Farnsworth had been closing games before Mariano Rivera returned to action last night.
