Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsSaturday 3/13, 7:54 PM CT
Mark DeRosa went 2-for-3 with a run scored in Saturday's 8-7 loss to the Athletics in the Cactus League. He hit a single and a double.

Our View: DeRosa is 35, but looks to have another good season left in the tank. His wrist looks to be OK as well, evidenced by today's solid performance.
Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsThursday 3/11, 5:56 PM CT
Mark DeRosa went 2-for-2 with a walk and a pair of RBI in Thursday's loss to the Mariners.

Our View: The super utility man can play almost anywhere, but it appears the Giants are most comfortable with him in left field right now. Last season's wrist injury slowed him early on in camp, but he appears to be healthy and ready to contribute now. His versatility makes him a nice late-round choice in fantasy leagues.
Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsThursday 3/4, 1:22 PM CT
Mark DeRosa's surgically repaired wrist is "not a big issue," according to the San Francisco Chronicle's Hank Schulman.

Our View: He is expected to face live pitching this weekend for the first time this spring. Considering he is indeed coming off of a wrist injury, and playing in a pitcher friendly ballpark on a poor offensive team, you shouldn't be drafting DeRosa any higher than the upper middle rounds.
Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsWednesday 2/24, 8:12 PM CT
According to MLBlogs.com, super-utility player Mark DeRosa (left wrist) took live batting practice on Wednesday but only "tracked" pitches and didn't swing.

Our View: DeRosa is still recovering from offseason wrist surgery, but is expected to be able to fully participate in workouts soon. He should be ready for the start of the season, and if the wrist is completely healed, expect a bump in his numbers from last year, as the injury sapped some of his power and drove down his average.
Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsTuesday 12/29, 3:01 PM CT
Mark DeRosa says he ultimately accpeted San Francisco's two-year, $12 million deal because he was "just tired of being a lot of teams' Plan B," according to Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Our View: At the conclusion of the 2009 season, he was known to want to return to the Cardinals, but with the Birds waiting on Matt Holliday, they never made him a serious offer.
Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsMonday 12/28, 7:11 PM CT
Updating an earlier report, Mark DeRosa has agreed to a two-year deal with the Giants, according to Jon Heyman's (Sports Illustrated) twitter page. It is believed to be worth $12MM.

Our View: DeRosa is coming off October wrist surgery, but is expected to be ready for spring training. He is expected to serve primarily at third base, but will provide the versatility to serve at other spots as well.
Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsMonday 12/28, 12:57 PM CT
Updating an earlier item, Mark DeRosa appears to be closing in on a two-year, $12 million deal with the Giants, according to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports.

Our View: DeRosa would be a nice offensive upgrade for a team that lacked any in 2009, though he will be no savior, as evidenced by his .250 average from last season. It will also be interesting to see how much pop he has playing in an infamously pitcher-friendly stadium. Rosenthal says the team plans to use him mostly at third base.
Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsSaturday 12/26, 1:29 PM CT
Mark DeRosa is no longer seeking a three-year, $27 million deal, according to MASN.

Our View: He is reported to have come down in both years and money since the winter meetings ended. Recent reports have had him nearing a two-year, $12 million deal with San Francisco. Stay tuned.
Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsThursday 12/24, 12:53 PM CT
Buster Olney is reporting that Mark DeRosa is leaning towards accepting a two-year, $12 million deal to join the Giants.

Our View: The utility man could become the Giants everyday third baseman, or he could find himself playing a variety of positions, including first base and the corner outfield spots. A number of teams have expressed interest in the free agent, but it sounds as if no one was willing to give him three years. He is coming off of an offseason wrist surgery, but should be ready for spring training.
Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsWednesday 12/23, 2:50 PM CT
The Giants have offered Mark DeRosa a two-year, $12 million deal, according to Sports Illustrated's Jon Heyman.

Our View: The uber-utility man is apparently still waiting on offers from the Yankees, Mets and Braves, so don't expect him to make a quick decision with San Francisco.
Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsSunday 12/20, 11:03 AM CT
According to the Boston Globe, the general feeling is that Mark DeRosa's asking price has come down. He was initially seeking for a package that would net him $10 million per season.

Our View: DeRosa has reportedly been drawing interest from a lot of teams, and it's likely that some clubs will increase their efforts to sign the 34-year-old once Jason Bay and Matt Holliday are off the market. The Mets and Yankees have shown some interest in DeRosa, and the Cardinals may be viewing him as their Plan B if Holliday signs elsewhere.
Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsFriday 12/18, 9:57 AM CT
Mark DeRosa appears to be in the Yankees' sights, according to ESPN's Buster Olney.

Our View: New York is expected to finalize it's deal with Nick Johnson soon, after which they could start to negotiate with DeRosa. DeRosa's fantasy value would probably take a hit if he were to land with the Yankees. He'd be an everyday player in most organizations but would likely be used as a utility man and sit a few games a week in New York, given the team's overall depth.
Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsThursday 12/17, 5:51 PM CT
Mark DeRosa sounds ready to move on from the Cardinals, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Our View: With the Cardinals in a "holding pattern" with Matt Holliday, DeRosa is in limbo. The Giants and Yankees are both also believed to be interested, but are also waiting on what other free agents decide, as well. It could be a while before he finds a landing spot.
Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsThursday 12/10, 4:03 PM CT
There is belief that the Giants made an offer to Mark DeRosa, according to the Mercury News.

Our View: DeRosa has been on several team's radar, namely as he provides the versatility to serve at various positions. He is said to be San Francisco's top target among third basemen, and would be cheaper than Adrian Beltre.
Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsWednesday 12/9, 8:26 AM CT
The Twins have shown a significant interest in Mark DeRosa, according to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune.

Our View: While DeRosa's numbers were down last season after an excellent 2008, his awesome versatility still makes him quite valuable around the league. He'd likely play third base if he landed with Minnesota but would be an everyday fixture in their lineup, regardless.
Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsMonday 12/7, 8:37 PM CT
Mark DeRosa will not accept arbitration from the St. Louis Cardinals, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Not a big surprise, as DeRosa is known to be seeking a multi-year deal. With a reported asking price of $9 million annually, he isn't likely to be back in St. Louis next season.
Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsFriday 12/4, 8:36 AM CT
Free agent utility fielder Mark DeRosa is reported to be asking for a three-year contract worth roughly $9 million per season, according to ESPN's Buster Olney.

Our View: Both of those numbers seem very unlikely for a player who at age 34 last season had a down year offensively. He is an amazingly versatile fielder, and beloved teammate, but someone will have to be very, very interested in his services to dole out that kind of deal. If the number of teams that supposedly want him is true, however, he could become the beneficiary of a bidding war.
Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsWednesday 12/2, 9:16 AM CT
Mike Silverman of the Boston Herald tweeted that Mark DeRosa is on Boston's radar.

Our View: DeRosa is coming off wrist surgery, but is still garnering interest on the free agent market. If Boston reels him in, the Cardinals would receive a draft pick as compensation.
Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsTuesday 12/1, 7:46 PM CT
According to the Cardinals official Twitter account, the team has offered arbitration to third baseman Mark DeRosa, outfielder Matt Holliday and start Joel Pineiro.

Our View: The decision on Holliday was a no-brainer as the Cards are trying to sign him and if they can't they'll land two high draft picks as compensation. Offering arbitration to Type B free agents DeRosa and Pineiro is much more surprising. Both are coveted on the free agent market and could put the Cards in a financial bind if they both decide to stick around. They could sign for one year, but it's more likely that all three are looking for long-term deals.
Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsTuesday 12/1, 8:34 AM CT
Re-signing Mark DeRosa does not appear to be a priority for the St. Louis Cardinals, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Our View: Midnight tonight is the deadline for the team to offer him salary arbitration, and it is unclear if they will do so. The club is still interested in DeRosa, though seemingly only if other options, such as locking up Matt Holliday, fall through.
Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsMonday 11/23, 11:00 AM CT
The Braves are the latest team to express interest in versatile free agent Mark DeRosa, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Our View: The Braves' main interest is improving on offense, however, and DeRosa is just one of many names they are interested in. Mike Cameron, Jermaine Dye and Josh Willingham are all also rumored to be on their radar.
Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsFriday 11/13, 6:54 PM CT
According to MLBlogs.com, you can add the Nationals to the list of teams interested in free agent, super-utility man Mark DeRosa.

Our View: The versatile DeRosa spent most of his time at the hot corner last year, but he can play all four infield positions and both corner outfield spots. The Nats don't need a third baseman, so they're likely considering the former Cardinal for second base or right field. Still, there are a lot of other teams interested in him, and the Nats are likely last on his wish list.
Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsThursday 10/8, 11:56 AM CT
Mark DeRosa had one of his fingers on his right hand cut by Dodgers' first baseman James Loney's cleats in Game 1 on Wednesday, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. DeRosa said the injury is no big deal and he will be fine for the rest of the series.

Our View: DeRosa got medical attention on the finger as soon as it happened last night, and he stayed in the game. The bigger concern is the wrist injury he has been dealing with for most of his tenure as a Cardinal, as these cuts are nothing to worry about.
Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsSaturday 10/3, 12:02 PM CT
Mark DeRosa is back in the Cardinals' starting lineup on Saturday, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Our View: The team has been giving him time off before the playoffs to rest his injured wrist. He is batting seventh and playing third base on Saturday.
Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsMonday 9/21, 9:37 PM CT
Mark DeRosa had a big night in a 7-3 win at Houston, as he went 3-for-4 with four RBI and two runs scored. He hit a double and two homers, one coming off Wandy Rodriguez and the other Chad Paronto.

Our View: DeRosa hit multiple homers in a game for the second time this season, and both at Houston. He hit his first homer of September tonight as well.
Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsSaturday 9/19, 10:40 AM CT
The Chicago Sun-Times is reporting that Mark DeRosa would be open to returning to the Cubs in the future. "I would definitely listen," DeRosa said when asked if he would ever return.

Our View: DeRosa is the enemy right now, as he is playing in St. Louis, but the Cubs miss him badly. DeRosa said he ws saddened when he found out he was traded, so it is a possibility that he could return.
Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsWednesday 9/9, 8:01 AM CT
MLB.com reports that the Cardinals have discussed an extension with versatile infielder/outfielder Mark DeRosa.

Our View: DeRosa will be a free agent at season's end and the Cards are looking to lock him up. He has gelled exceptionally well with the team and is a leader in the clubhouse despite his .244/.313/.425 line since coming to St. Louis. He's been hampered by a torn tendon sheath in his wrist, which has sapped his offensive production, but the lower numbers mean the Cards could sign him on the cheap and then have a fully healthy DeRosa next season. Keep in mind though that the club is also looking to resign Matt Holliday, Joel Pineiro and a slew of others.
Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsTuesday 9/8, 3:41 PM CT
Mark DeRosa is in the Cardinals' lineup for their Tuesday night game against the Brewers. DeRosa has missed time over the last week while dealing with wrist and back injuries.

Our View: The Cards are being plenty cautious with DeRosa, but apparently he feels good enough to go tonight. He is at his usual third base position, so fantasy owners should feel free to get him in the lineup if you rely on him as a starter.
Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsSunday 9/6, 10:32 AM CT
MLB.com is reporting that Mark DeRosa was a late scratch from the St. Louis lineup on Saturday due to a sore back. DeRosa is not in Sunday's lineup either, as he will be replaced by Troy Glaus at third base.

Our View: DeRosa has been dealing with a wrist injury since joining the Cards, but the back soreness is new. Expect DeRosa to get plenty of time off over the next month, as the team wants to get him as healthy as possible for the postseason.
Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsWednesday 9/2, 9:21 AM CT
Mark DeRosa will return to the Cardinals' starting lineup on Wednesday after missing two games with a sore wrist, according to MLB.com.

Our View: DeRosa has been dealing with the wrist injury since late June, and might not be the best play for your team down the stretch. In 44 games since joining the Redbirds, he is hitting .243 with eight home runs, though he has not gone deep since August 7th.
Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsSunday 8/30, 12:52 PM CT
Mark DeRosa was a late scratch from the Cardinals' lineup on Sunday. He is being replaced by Khalil Greene at third base for today's game. There is no word as to why he is not able to play.

Our View: This move was done very late, which makes you think it could be either sickness or just some routine soreness. Hopefully it isn't anything serious, but we will keep you updated on his condition.
Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsWednesday 8/26, 10:12 PM CT
Mark DeRosa drove in two RBI for his first multi-RBI game since July 28, as the Cardinals beat the Astros 3-2 at home.

Our View: DeRosa has batted just .241 in 39 games since being traded to the Cardinals in June, and is clearly still struggling with the left wrist injury that sent him to the disabled list in July.
Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsTuesday 8/11, 4:47 PM CT
After being a late scratch on Monday, Mark DeRosa (back) is back in the Cardinals lineup on Tuesday, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. He'll play third base and bat sixth.

Our View: The back could act up again, though, so monitor him daily until it appears to subside for good.
Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsMonday 8/10, 4:38 PM CT
Mark DeRosa is out of Monday's lineup while dealing with back tightness, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Our View: He is considered day-to-day. Khalil Greene will cover third base in his absence. Adjust your lineups accordingly.
Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsTuesday 7/28, 11:45 PM CT
Mark DeRosa hit his third home run in the last three games on Tuesday as the Cardinals slammed the Dodgers by a score of 10-0. DeRosa went 1-for-5 with the homer, two runs scored, and three RBI in the win.

Our View: The new-look Cardinal lineup was clicking on all cylinders tonight, and DeRosa is starting to look like a great acquisition by the team. If he continues to hit, the Cards are going to be tough to beat going forward.
Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsMonday 7/27, 9:53 PM CT
Mark DeRosa went 1-for-4 with a solo homer off James McDonald in tonight's 6-1 win over the Dodgers at Busch Stadium.

Our View: DeRosa hit a homer in back-to-back games, and has 18 for the season. He should remain a good source for power as a member of the Cardinals.
Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsThursday 7/23, 4:49 PM CT
Mark DeRosa is slated to start at first base for tonight's game at Washington, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Albert Pujols is getting a day off to rest.

Our View: DeRosa has three homers over his last two games and is worth penciling into fantasy lineups. He has five total hits over his last three games as well.
Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsWednesday 7/22, 9:48 PM CT
Mark DeRosa hit his third home run in two games on Wednesday night, but again in a losing effort, as the Cardinals blew a ninth inning lead and lost to Houston 4-3.

Our View: DeRosa has finally come alive in a Cardinals uniform. If you had been keeping him benched since he came off the disabled list, it's time to get him back in your starting lineup.
Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsTuesday 7/21, 10:19 PM CT
Mark DeRosa hit his first two Cardinal home runs on Tuesday night, but the Astros easily beat the Birds on Bat, winning 11-6 in Houston.

Our View: DeRosa's miserable time as a Cardinal is finally coming to an end. After going zero for his first 15 as a Redbird, and spending time on the disabled list, he is now four for his last eight, including the two round trippers. His wrist does not appear to be a problem, and he should be safe to start down the stretch.
Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsSaturday 7/18, 2:32 PM CT
Mark DeRosa (left wrist) has been activated from the disabled list, and will bat second and play third base for the Cardinals on Saturday, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch's Derrick Goold.

Our View: There has been much uncertainty about just how serious DeRosa's injury was, but he's apparently fully recovered the partial wrist tendon tear he suffered on June 30. He is 0-for-9 so far during his short Cardinals career, but is a good option in most formats because of his position versatility and consistent run production.
Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsFriday 7/17, 6:23 PM CT
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch is reporting that Cardinals' third baseman Mark DeRosa took a full batting practice session on Friday and felt no pain. DeRosa said he wants to lobby manager Tony La Russa to activate and start him on Saturday.

Our View: This is great news for the Cardinals. Although it remains to be seen what La Russa will do with him, it sounds like DeRosa is ready to go. Don't be shocked if the team waits until next week to activate him, but check back as we will update his status as the news is released.
Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsThursday 7/16, 4:55 PM CT
Mark DeRosa could now possibly be activated as early as this weekend, according to Joe Strauss of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Our View: Next week is apparently still more likely, but DeRosa swung without pain in his injured right wrist on Thursday and is scheduled to take normal batting practice on Friday. Even if he is activated this weekend, you may want to wait until next week to start him, when he should have shed some of the rust from sitting out, in leagues with daily transactions.
Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsWednesday 7/15, 4:42 PM CT
Mark DeRosa is slated to have his sprained left wrist re-evaluated Wednesday, according to the Belleville News-Democrat.

Our View: Skipper Tony LaRussa is hopeful that DeRosa will be ready to return to the diamond soon as the Cardinals gear up to hold their lead in the NL Central standings for the second half of the season. There is belief that DeRosa could return by the end of July.
Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsWednesday 7/15, 1:04 PM CT
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch's Joe Strauss reports that a "realistic projection" for Mark DeRosa's return is between July 22 and July 28.

Our View: This is of course barring any setbacks in his recovery from a torn wrist tendon sheath. Don't plan on having him full strength until the end of the month, and even then you shouldn't expect the same high level of production he was producing at before the injury. Wrist injuries usually take a long time to recover from, and it's likely he won't be hitting as well as before the injury.
Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsTuesday 7/7, 6:30 PM CT
The Cardinals have revealed more about Mark DeRosa's murky wrist injury, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. The team is now saying the utilityman is suffering from a "torn tendon sheath" in his left wrist. Speculation is that he might not be able to return until August.

Our View: This is very bad news for the Cardinals. The team is still saying he could return right after the All-Star break, but that isn't appearing too likely right now. Hold onto him if you are thin at third base or in the outfield, but you may want to begin exploring more longer-term options to replace his solid fantasy production in 2009.
Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsTuesday 7/7, 12:37 PM CT
According to the Twitter page of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch's Bernie Miklasz, the Cardinals have placed Mark DeRosa on the 15-day DL with a wrist injury. The team will call up Nick Stavinoha to replace him on the roster.

Our View: DeRosa was evaluated on Monday, and the team waited until today to announce his status. The team believes he needs to rest the wrist to prevent injuring it further, but they are also hopeful he will be able to return sooner rather than later.
Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsSunday 7/5, 1:55 PM CT
Cardinals' beat writer Joe Strauss is reporting on his Twitter page that the organization is more concerned about the injured wrist of Mark DeRosa than first suggested. DeRosa is scheduled to be examined by team doctor Geroge Paletta on Monday.

Our View: It was originally thought that DeRosa would be ready on Tuesday, but this report is casting some doubt on that. Check back for updates on his status, as we should know more tomorrow after he sees the doctor.
Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsFriday 7/3, 5:05 PM CT
According to the St. Louis Post Dispatch, Mark DeRosa is set to take some swings on Saturday to test out his strained left wrist.

Our View: Barring any setbacks, DeRosa looks to be ready for the first place series against the Brewers on Tuesday. Owners should monitor his progress, but can feel reasonably safe about inserting him into lineups next week.
Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsThursday 7/2, 10:41 PM CT
Mark DeRosa isn't expected to return to the Cardinals lineup until at least Tuesday, according to MLB.com.

Our View: DeRosa strained a tendon in his left wrist on Tuesday, but the injury is still not considered overly serious. He should be o.k. to pencil into your starting lineup once he returns next week.
Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsWednesday 7/1, 5:39 PM CT
According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch's Bernie Miklasz, Mark DeRosa is day-to-day after leaving Tuesday night's game against the Giants with a wrist injury.

Our View: Things aren't getting any easier for the Cardinals. In desperate need of offense, they will now likely have to go a few games without their recent big acquisition. Still, his injury was termed a "best case scenario" by Miklasz, who says it is just a strained tendon. Expect him to be back in a few days, with next week likely being the latest possible return.
Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsTuesday 6/30, 11:29 PM CT
Mark DeRosa exited tonight's game against the Giants after injuring his left wrist while swinging a bat, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: He felt a "little tweak" while swinging, and his status is yet to be updated. He expects to undergo tests Wednesday, and may have a sprain.
Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsSunday 6/28, 7:17 PM CT
Mark DeRosa made his Cardinals' debut on Sunday, as he played left field and hit in the cleanup spot. He was 0-for-3 with a walk and three groundouts at the plate.

Our View: DeRosa didn't light anything on fire at the dish in his debut today, but he did make an impact as he made an outstanding play in left field. Now that he is playing for a contender in St. Louis, you can expect his numbers to remain solid for the rest of the year.
Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsSunday 6/28, 11:23 AM CT
According to the St. Louis Post Dispatch, newly acquired right-handed bat, Mark DeRosa will play left field and hit in the cleanup spot on Sunday in his Cardinals' debut.

Our View: DeRosa is definitely not a prototypical cleanup hitter, but the Cards are looking for any kind of production out of the number four spot in the lineup. DeRosa's RBI totals could get a boost hitting behind Albert Pujols and if he thrives there he'll stick around. At least until the Cards go out and acquire a more legitimate cleanup hitter. The Matt Holliday rumors continue to swell.
Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsSaturday 6/27, 10:17 PM CT
According to the MLB.com Twitter blog, the Cardinals have acquired Mark DeRosa from the Indians for Chris Perez and a player to be named.

Our View: Not a bad deal for both sides. The Cards get the pop they needed and the Indians got their likely closer of the future.
Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsMonday 6/22, 3:04 PM CT
ESPN.com's Buster Olney is reporting that the Indians are ready to deal infielder Mark DeRosa after being swept by the Cubs over the weekend. Olney lists the Cardinals, Mets, and Yankees as possible destinations.

Our View: DeRosa has been talked about in trade rumors for months now, but it looks like the weekend sweep finally put the Indians over the top. The Cardinals still figure to make a strong play at DeRosa, but they will have to be willing to give up some young pitching.
Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsSunday 6/21, 1:24 PM CT
Mark DeRosa is in the lineup for Sunday's contest against the Cubs.

Our View: DeRosa was banged up chasing a foul ball on Friday and sat out Saturday's game with a sore hip. He's back in today though and should be inserted into all fantasy lineups. He likely pushed his return to face his former team at Wrigley Field.
Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsSaturday 6/20, 12:18 PM CT
According to the Minneapolis Star Tribune, Mark DeRosa was a late scratch on Saturday due to a quad injury. The team made the decision after he took batting practice.

Our View: DeRosa crashed into the Cubs' bullpen in the third inning of Friday's game while chasing a foul ball and smacked his leg on a phone box as he fell through the door. He met with the trainer after BP and was then pulled. He was replaced in the lineup by Chris Giminez. Consider him day-to-day.
Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsTuesday 6/16, 9:45 PM CT
Mark DeRosa went 1-for-4 with a solo homer and two RBI in Tuesday's 7-5 loss to the Brewers at Progressive Field.

Our View: He is only hitting .279, but leads the Indians with 13 homers and ranks second with 48 RBI. He has a six-game hitting streak, and homered in each of the last three.
Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsMonday 6/15, 10:55 AM CT
The San Francisco Chronicle reports that the A's inquired to the availability of Mark DeRosa but concluded that the asking price is too high for a player in the final year of a deal. The team is searching for a solution at third base now that Eric Chavez's career may be over. The team may consider him once he enters free agency in the offseason.

Our View: DeRosa is rumored to be available and the Cardinals are one team heavily linked to him. The A's will continue to use Bobby Crosby, Jack Hannahan, and even Nomar Garciaparra at third base for the time being.
Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsTuesday 6/9, 9:19 PM CT
Mark DeRosa carried the Indians in Tuesday's 8-4 win over the Royals at Progressive Field, as he went 2-for-4 with a grand slam and a single.

Our View: He already has nine RBI in June, after only collecting 15 RBI in the entire month of May.
Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsSunday 6/7, 9:08 AM CT
The Giants are in the market for a solid bat, and Mark DeRosa has been mentioned in internal team meetings, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View: The Indians need pitching, and the Giants are believed to be willing to part with Jonathan Sanchez. DeRosa has been linked to a handful of teams in trade rumors, including the Mets and Yankees.
Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsSaturday 6/6, 6:28 PM CT
Mark DeRosa provided much of the Indians' offense on Saturday in the team's 4-2 loss to the White Sox. DeRosa went 2-for-4 with an RBI in the game.

Our View: DeRosa is starting to pick it up at the plate, just as the trade rumors are swirling around him. It is expected that he will get moved at some point, but with the injuries the Indians have right now it may not be until closer to the deadline.
Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsFriday 6/5, 10:11 PM CT
Mark DeRosa led the Indians in Friday's 6-0 win at Chicago, as he went 1-for-5 with a three-run homer.

Our View: DeRosa ended an eight-game skid without a homer, and now has nine for the season. He is tied with Victor Martinez for the team lead.
Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsThursday 5/28, 9:43 AM CT
Buster Olney of ESPN indicated that the Yankees had internal discussions regarding acquiring Mark DeRosa from the Indians.

Our View: DeRosa provides the versatility to play several positions. The Indians are believed to want major league-ready pitching in return. The Mets and Cardinals could also pursue DeRosa.
Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsTuesday 5/26, 9:46 PM CT
Mark DeRosa led the way for the Indians on Tuesday as they defeated the Rays 5-1. DeRosa went 2-for-3 with a home run, a run scored, and two RBI.

Our View: DeRosa has picked things up at the dish since the trade rumors began, and he is starting to live up to his draft status in fantasy leagues. His versatility still makes him an option in all leagues, and if he keeps hitting like this he should be a solid option going forward.
Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsSaturday 5/23, 11:44 PM CT
Mark DeRosa went 2-for-4 with and walk, a run, four RBI and his seventh home run of the season against Cincinnati on Saturday.

Our View: DeRosa has been picking things up at the plate of late after a slow start and remains a valuable fantasy commodity with his multi-position eligibility.
Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsThursday 5/21, 11:09 AM CT
Mark DeRosa is reportedly on the Mets' radar after the Indians placed him on their trading block, according to MLBFanhouse.com.

Our View: It makes sense for the Mets to be interested, as first baseman Carlos Delgado is out until July while recovering from hip surgery and shortstop Jose Reyes is dealing with a calf ailment. DeRosa could provide help at both of those positions.
Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsThursday 5/21, 12:07 AM CT
Mark DeRosa had a big night on Wednesday as the Indians defeated the Royals 6-5. DeRosa went 3-for-4 with a double, two runs scored, and an RBI in the win.

Our View: DeRosa decided to have a big night on the same day it was reported that he is on the trading block. He either really wants to get out of Cleveland or he really wants to give them a reason to keep him. Either way, his fantasy value is very low right now. A change of scenery may be what he needs, but right now there are better options out there.
Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsWednesday 5/20, 10:40 AM CT
Mark DeRosa is reportedly on the Indians' trading block as the club is listening to offers for him, according to Jon Heyman of Sports Illustrated.

Our View: The Indians are 14-26 in the standings, and covet pitching that can help them win now. The Mets are believed to be a possible landing spot for DeRosa, as he could play first base and fill the void with Carlos Delgado out 8-10 weeks following hip surgery.
Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsMonday 5/4, 8:57 AM CT
Mark DeRosa thinks his batting slump is behind him, according to the Akron Beacon Journal. DeRosa said, "I am confident that I will hit, but everybody has slumps. It just happens to be early, when we have not been going good."

Our View: DeRosa has been replaced by Asdrubal Cabrera in the No. 2 spot in the batting order due to the slump. DeRosa has been hitting better as of late however, with nine hits over his last 25 at-bats (.360). He is worth targeting if you can acquire him for a bargain price.
Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsTuesday 4/28, 11:38 PM CT
Mark DeRosa was 4-for-5 with a homer, a double, an RBI and four runs scored on Tuesday. His Indians scored a run in the bottom of the ninth and used a 9-8 victory to stop the Red Sox' 11-game winning streak.

Our View: DeRosa did a little bit of everything on Tuesday and now has four homers, 17 RBI and 15 runs scored this season. Nice overall production, but somehow he's still only hitting .235. His hits are meaningful, so he's got that going for him.
Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsSaturday 4/18, 7:19 PM CT
Mark DeRosa had a monster day at the plate, along with the rest of the Indians in their 22-4 crushing of the New York Yankees. He was 4-for-7 with a home run and six RBI.

Our View: Derosa has been struggling in the average department this season, but he has made all of his hits count. After today's four-hit performance he upped his average to .255, but has thee home runs and 15 RBI on the year. Hard to argue with his run production.
Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsFriday 4/17, 4:16 PM CT
Mark DeRosa was 2-for-5 with a home run, two runs scored, and two RBI in Friday's loss to the Yankees. He jumped on a Joba Chamberlain first inning offering and put it over the right field fence.

Our View: DeRosa has struggled a little to start 2009, but games like these are more common. He is only hitting .205 after today, but he already has two homers and nine RBI. He is a quality fantasy player, especially given his availability at different positions.
Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsTuesday 3/31, 8:13 PM CT
Mark DeRosa was 2-for-3 with a run scored on Tuesday and is hitting a cool .400 since rejoining the Indians this spring.

Our View: DeRosa is a solid fantasy option and should be a valuable member of the Indians this season. He can play first, second, third and outfield.
Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsWednesday 3/18, 11:38 PM CT
Mark DeRosa had a great night in a losing effort for Team USA. He was 3-for-5 in the game with a home run and three RBI.

Our View: DeRosa seems to have found his stroke in the WBC, and is producing nicely. He's a decent fantasy option on draft day as he puts up solid overall numbers and qualifies for multiple positions.
Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsSaturday 2/28, 8:34 PM CT
Mark DeRosa went 0-for-2 with a walk in Saturday's 1-0 loss to Oakland.

Our View: DeRosa's batting .250 so far this spring, we expect him to pick it up soon as he's batted .285 or better over the past three years.
Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsFriday 2/27, 10:32 AM CT
Manager Eric Wedge praised Mark DeRosa, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. Wedge said, "He is an all-around player. He has some pop in his bat. And he has good presence on the field."

Our View: He should see enough at-bats to make him useful in AL-only leagues this season. He hit 21 homers with the Cubs last season, and scored 103 runs over 149 games.
Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsWednesday 2/25, 6:35 PM CT
Mark DeRosa had a big day for the Indians on Wednesday to start his spring with his new club. He went 1-for-3 with three RBI, two of which came off of his home run in the third inning.

Our View: DeRosa managed to hit 21 home runs with 87 RBI last year in 505 at-bats for the Cubs in 2008. He can probably be expected to do about the same with Cleveland.
Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsWednesday 2/18, 11:10 AM CT
Mark DeRosa is settling in with the Indians after being acquired from the Cubs, according to the Akron Beacon Journal. He said, "During my career, every time I get comfortable I get moved to another team. I do not take it personal. At some point you wonder why your prior team would give you up. But I always try and focus on the fact that another quality organization is wanting you."

Our View: DeRosa is expected to work primarily at third base, and will also see time at the corner outfield spots, meaning he should see enough at-bats to target in the mid-to-late rounds of fantasy drafts.
Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsThursday 1/22, 10:02 AM CT
Manager Eric Wedge stated that Mark DeRosa is going to serve mainly at third base, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

Our View: He is also going to see time in the corner outfield spots, leaving third open for Jamey Carroll to face certain lefty hurlers. Jhonny Peralta is also going to be in the mix at third.
Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsWednesday 12/31, 12:33 PM CT
Updating a previous report, the Cleveland Indians completed a trade for Cubs infielder Mark DeRosa, ESPN.com reports.

Our View: DeRosa was rumored to be involved in a deal for San Diego ace Jake Peavy. In exchange for DeRosa, the Cubs will receive three players, the names of which have yet to be disclosed. The Indians figure to utilize the versatility DeRosa displayed while in Chicago, where he split time between the outfield and infield. DeRosa's role with the Tribe will likely be defined by the performance of newly acquired second baseman Luis Valbuena. Should Valbuena prove inconsistent, Asdrubal Cabrera would become the everyday player at that position, which would leave DeRosa to settle in at third base, next to Jhonny Peralta.
Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsWednesday 12/31, 11:46 AM CT
ESPN Radio's affiliate in Chicago reports that the Cubs are fielding interest about utilityman Mark DeRosa from a number of teams, with the frontrunner being the Cleveland Indians.

Our View: Wednesday's announcement that the Cubs signed free-agent Aaron Miles to a two-year deal instantly makes at least one of Chicago's current infielders dispensable. DeRosa appears the most likely to leave, as he will garner the most in return.
Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsThursday 12/11, 12:46 AM CT
The Chicago Tribune reports that Mark DeRosa appears to be the key to any Peavy deal, and both Minnesota and Philadelphia are willing to trade top pitching prospects for the veteran infielder so the Cubs can flip them to San Diego along with Jason Marquis and top prospect Josh Vitters.

Our View: Earlier it was reported that DeRosa would not be traded, but that no longer appears to be the case. The Cubs inquired about Chone Figgins earlier in the evening and Padres GM Kevin Towers said that the deal would either be completed or killed no later than Thursday.
Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsWednesday 12/10, 2:40 PM CT
Updating an earlier report, the Twins have put together a package for Mark DeRosa, but the Cubs stated that the infielder is not going to be traded, according to the Hot Stove Blog on MLB.com.

Our View: The Cubs would have used their new acquisitions from the Twins (likely young pitchers) as trade chips to acquire Jake Peavy from San Diego.
Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsWednesday 12/10, 10:24 AM CT
The Twins talked to the Cubs regarding a potential deal involving Mark DeRosa, according to the Star Tribune.

Our View: The Cubs will list Twins' pitchers that they like, which could potentially be used as trade chips to land Jake Peavy.
Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsMonday 12/8, 11:44 PM CT
As the Cubs try to get other teams involved in a deal that would net them Jake Peavy, it seems that the Phillies might be one of those teams, and they could receive Mark DeRosa in return, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Our View: DeRosa would free up money for Chicago along with giving the Phillies a useful player if Chase Utley is not healthy to start the year.
Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsWednesday 11/12, 2:17 PM CT
Cubs' skipper Lou Piniella has been named the NL Manager of the Year, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: Piniella was the first Cubs' manager to lead the Cubs to back-to-back playoff appearances. Piniella received 15 first-place votes and 103 points in balloting by the Baseball Writers Association of America to beat out Charlie Manuel, who led the Phiilies to a World Series title.
Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsFriday 10/3, 11:33 AM CT
Errors by each of the team's infielders on Thursday - third baseman Aramis Ramirez, shortstop Ryan Theriot, second baseman Mark DeRosa and first baseman Derrek Lee - tied a 74-year old postseason record, according to Cubs.com.

Our View: Only the 1934 Tigers have also accomplished the feat, and they lost their World Series game against the St. Louis Cardinals and eventually lost the series in seven games.
Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsFriday 10/3, 12:01 AM CT
Mark DeRosa went 2-for-4 with two RBI in Thursday's 10-3 loss to the Dodgers in Game 2 of the NLDS at Wrigley Field. Both of his knocks were doubles. He committed a fielding error in the loss as well, which was one of four by Chicago.

Our View: The Cubs are down 2-0 to Los Angeles in the best-of-five series, but DeRosa cannot be faulted, as he has contributed four RBI over the two losses.
Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsWednesday 10/1, 9:04 PM CT
Mark DeRosa accounted for all of the Cubs RBI on Wednesday in their 7-2 playoff loss to the Dodgers. He was 2-for-4 with a two-run home run off of Dodgers starter Derek Lowe.

Our View: The utility man was questionable for the night's game because of a strained calf. He was a pleasant source of production during the regular season when he hit .285 with 21 home runs, 103 runs and 87 RBI.
Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsMonday 9/29, 9:40 AM CT
Mark DeRosa believes he will be ready to go for the first round of the playoffs against the Dodgers following his bout with a strained calf, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. He said, "I feel like I'll be ready to go. I would have loved to have played today, but err on the side of caution. There's no sense in going out there and reaggravating it."

Our View: He will be pushed a bit at Wrigley Field today, and manager Lou Piniella is optimistic he will be ready to play. DeRosa has been among the most valuable (and versatile) members of the Cubs this season. He started 80 games at second base, 10 at third and 53 in the corner outfield spots, while batting .285 with 21 homers and 87 RBI.
Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsSaturday 9/27, 3:42 PM CT

Our View: DeRosa, who has set career highs this season with 21 homers and 87 RBIs while hitting .285, has made 80 starts at second base and 32 starts in right field.
Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsThursday 9/25, 7:26 PM CT

Mark DeRosa had three hits in four trips to the plate to raise his average to .285 on the year. He also scored two runs for the Cubs.

Our View: DeRosa continues to provide ample offense from a variety of positions all over the diamond. With four runs in the last two games, DeRosa is up to 102 runs scored, which when combined with his 84 RBI give him nearly 200 runs produced.
Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsSunday 9/14, 9:53 PM CT
Mark DeRosa went 0-for-3 on Sunday night to drop his average in the month of September to .167.

Our View: You have to cut the guy some slack given that he is hitting .283-20-83-96-6 for the best numbers of his career. DeRosa has proven to be a dependable bat with tremendous value given his flexibility to play almost every position on the field.
Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsWednesday 9/10, 12:25 PM CT
For whatever reason, Cubs infielder Mark DeRosa has a difficult time against St. Louis pitcher Braden Looper, who throws for the Cardinals tonight. DeRosa has just one hit in 17 at-bats against Looper in his career, good for a .059 average.

Our View: DeRosa is also just two for his last 17, and is hitting .160 in April. It seems like a very good time to rest him in fantasy lineups for a while.
Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsSunday 8/10, 9:57 PM CT
Mark DeRosa went 1-for-2 with two RBI and a run scored in the Cubs 6-2 win over division rival St. Louis.

Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsTuesday 8/5, 4:33 PM CT

Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsSaturday 7/5, 6:49 PM CT
Mark DeRosa hit his 11th home run of the season, and third in six games for the Cubs on Saturday.

Our View: DeRosa seemingly qualifies at every position this year, and given his .289-11-48 line, it can actually be argued that he is one of the top-50 fantasy options this season because of that versatility.
Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsSaturday 6/28, 6:11 PM CT

Our View: DeRosa came out of May with high hopes, hitting .310 on the month. Thus far it's not going extremely well, going 7-for-23 through June. This may get him back on track.
Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsFriday 5/16, 4:21 PM CT
Mark DeRosa hit his fourth home run of the season on Friday as he went 2-for-4 to push his average up to .293.

Our View: DeRosa is working on a 7-game hitting streak that has allowed his average to rebound from a low water mark of .257 as he continues to be one of the best all-purpose bench players in the fantasy game.
Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsWednesday 4/30, 11:07 PM CT
Mark DeRosa knocked in two runs thanks to two hits, and he also picked up three walks which led to three runs scored.

Our View: With the looming return of Alfonso Soriano, #2910 Mark DeRosa# could lose some AB, though if he keeps hitting like he is now the team will find a way to keep him in the lineup on a daily basis.
Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsThursday 4/17, 9:53 AM CT
Mark DeRosa will spend time in left field in place of the injured Alfonso Soriano, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. Mike Fontenot will step in and cover second base.

Mark DeRosa, 3B, San Francisco GiantsSunday 3/2, 10:20 PM CT
Mark DeRosa returned to Cubs camp Sunday, three days after undergoing a radiofrequency catheter ablation to correct an irregular heartbeat. "I feel great," DeRosa told MLB.com. "I'm obviously excited to be back. I was getting cabin fever. You go from practicing in 70-degree heat and sunshine to sitting in a hotel room for a week, and there's about four inches of snow on the ground and it's 10 degrees. I'm just happy it was quick. It was a success." DeRosa is a few days behind the other Cubs hitters, but he says he'll definitely be good to go on opening day. "I'll be fine," DeRosa said. "I'll be fine by Monday - I'm fine now." This shouldn't affect where you would draft DeRosa.

Mark DeRosa will undergo surgery Thursday to stop an irregular heartbeat. The condition has been affecting him since his teenage years, according to the Chicago Tribune. The procedure involves putting a catheter in a vein in the groin which is then threaded into the heart to induce an irregular heartbeat. DeRosa could’ve taken medication when the irregular heartbeats occur instead of opting for surgery, but he decided to undergo the procedure to prevent it from happening once and for all. He could resume baseball activities by the beginning of next week and play in games shortly after that. This isn't a life-threatening situation, but it's got to be scary for DeRosa, nonetheless. It sounds as if he'll be fine by opening day.

"If it is surgery, it's an outpatient one," DeRosa said. "A lot of people take medicine. I don't want to deal with that. I'm 32, I don't want to be on medication for the rest of my life if there's a procedure I can do." The team hopes to have DeRosa back on the field soon, possibly within a week, but that will obviously depend on how involved the procedure is.
