John McDonald, SS, Toronto Blue JaysWednesday 10/14, 7:47 PM CT
The Orioles are believed to be interested in free agent infielder John McDonald, according to Bob Elliott's (Toronto Sun) twitter page.

Our View: The 35-year-old vet hit .258 with Toronto this season, and is viewed as a cheap depth option for the Orioles if they decide not to exercise Melvin Mora's $8MM option for 2010.
John McDonald, SS, Toronto Blue JaysTuesday 9/8, 9:14 PM CT
John McDonald went 3-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored in Tuesday's 6-3 win over the Twins at the Rogers Centre. He hit two singles and a three-run homer off Jon Rauch.

Our View: McDonald was in need of a solid performance, as he was hitting 2-for-16 (.125) over six games this month heading into tonight.
John McDonald, SS, Toronto Blue JaysThursday 9/4, 7:39 PM CT
John McDonald was on the bench for the fourth time in six games on Thursday night, according to MLB.com. With the return of Scott Rolen and the solid play of Marco Scutaro and Joe Inglett, there just hasn't been any room in the lineup for McDonald.

Our View: Face it. McDonald might be the best defensive shortstop in the American league, but the guy is hitting .217 with one home run in 157 AB. If you're upset by this news, your AL-only squad is likely in big trouble.
John McDonald, SS, Toronto Blue JaysSaturday 6/7, 11:50 AM CT
John McDonald has been activated from the DL, according to the AP. To make room on the roster, the team designated reliever Armando Benitez for assignment.

Our View: McDonald has recovered from a sprained right ankle. The infielder holds little fantasy value, as he is only hitting .182 over 22 at-bats, with five strikeouts.
John McDonald, SS, Toronto Blue JaysMonday 5/26, 7:22 PM CT
The AP reports that shortstop John McDonald (ankle) and OF Vernon Wells (broken wrist) flew to Florida on Monday to begin rehab assignments.

Our View: Neither player has a timetable for their return, but McDonald is expected to rejoin the team well before Wells.
John McDonald, SS, Toronto Blue JaysFriday 5/23, 11:26 PM CT
John McDonald is expected to begin a rehab assignment on Monday, according to the AP. He is coming back from a sprained ankle.

Our View: McDonald is lights out defensively, but he's pretty useless with the bat, and thus, useless to fantasy teams.
John McDonald, SS, Toronto Blue JaysTuesday 5/20, 7:34 PM CT
The Toronto Blue Jays team website reports that manager John Gibbons indicated prior to Tuesday's game that John McDonald will be sent on a rehab assignment at some point within the next week. A rehab schedule will become more clear for John McDonald on Wednesday, when he is set to perform more baseball-related activities, according to general manager J.P. Ricciardi.

Our View: McDonald sprained his right ankle when his cleat was caught on the turf as he tried to field a ground ball.
John McDonald, SS, Toronto Blue JaysFriday 5/9, 4:28 PM CT
According to the Jays' team website, neither David Eckstein nor John McDonald much wanted to go on the disabled list. But with both players still dealing with the lingering effects of injuries suffered earlier this week, the Blue Jays couldn't afford to wait any longer for the pair to get healthy.

Our View: Both Eckstein and McDonald landed on the 15-day disabled list on Thursday, retroactive to Wednesday, with Joe Inglett rejoining the roster and another move expected sometime before Friday's game at Cleveland.
John McDonald, SS, Toronto Blue JaysThursday 5/8, 6:08 PM CT
Just a day after saying that he wouldn't be placed on the DL, John McDonald was placed on the DL on Thursday with a sprained right ankle, according to the Associated Press. “I’m walking on it but I can’t run on it,” he said. “I wrenched it pretty good. The ligaments have got to heal up.”

Our View: McDonald will be replaced on the roster by Joe Inglett who was promoted from Triple-A Syracuse.
John McDonald, SS, Toronto Blue JaysWednesday 5/7, 5:06 PM CT
John McDonald's injured ankle isn't as badly hurt as originally thought and he even took part in batting practice on Wednesday, according to the Tampa Tribune.

Our View: Though the injury appears to be mild, McDonald still may miss a couple of days. With David Eckstein also sidelined, the team called up Jorge Velendia to backup Mark Scutaro.
John McDonald, SS, Toronto Blue JaysTuesday 5/6, 8:27 PM CT
Blue Jays shortstops are dropping faster than Citigroup stock. John McDonald replaced David Eckstein (groin) on Monday night, but the backup injured his ankle one inning later. He was carted off the field, the Ticker reports. Marco Scutaro took his place.

Our View: We think this is all part of the annual conspiracy to get Scutaro 350 at-bats. Seriously, we hope McDonald is better than the report suggests, and we'll update his situation when more is known.
John McDonald, SS, Toronto Blue JaysFriday 4/18, 3:43 PM CT
John McDonald is listed as the starter at shortstop for Friday's game against the Tigers, the Globe and Mail reports. David Eckstein has started 15 of the 16 games this year, and McDonald previously replaced him on April 6.

Our View: We have no reason to believe this change is injury-related. Eckstein is likely just getting a night off.
John McDonald, SS, Toronto Blue JaysSunday 3/16, 6:22 PM CT
Hoping to garner the attention of coaches and earn favor for opportunities this season, SS John McDonald went 3-for-3 today with a run scored, a RBI, and a stolen base in the Blue Jays' 8-3 win over Minnesota. David Eckstein stands between McDonald and a starting job at SS, but his bat could prove worthy of playing time if he stays hot.

John McDonald tweaked his abdominal injury Saturday and will not play in Sunday. McDonald will have surgery next Tuesday, according to the AP.

John McDonald, SS, Toronto Blue JaysSaturday 9/22, 12:23 AM CT
John McDonald was held out of the lineup Friday for the third straight game due to a sore groin, according to the AP. He was examined by a doctor on Friday, but the results of the examination aren't known. We should know more about his status over the weekend.
John McDonald, SS, Toronto Blue JaysThursday 9/20, 10:53 AM CT
John McDonald missed his second straight game Wednesday with a hip flexor injury, according to the Toronto Sun. "It's still a little tender and he'll have a day off tomorrow," manager John Gibbons said. "The injury happened in a game the night before (Monday)." McDonald is hoping to be back in the lineup on Friday.
John McDonald, SS, Toronto Blue JaysWednesday 12/13, 4:09 PM CT
The Blue Jays re-signed John McDonald to a one-year contract. McDonald is expected to serve as a reserve infielder, though it's possible he could beat out Royce Clayton for the shortstop job.
