Bengie Molina, C, San Francisco GiantsFriday 10/2, 9:46 AM CT
The San Francisco Chronicle is reporting that the Giants would like to bring back catcher Bengie Molina to split time with rookie phenom Buster Posey next season. Molina has 20 home runs and 80 RBI for the team this season.

Our View: The catching pool in free agency this offseason will be pretty slim, and Molina should be by far the best option assuming Victor Martinez stays in Boston. Molina is 35, so most teams may be reluctant to give him a long-term deal for big money, so it is realistic that he could end up staying in San Fran. Posey will get his chance at some point next season, but Molina could still be a nice fit.
Bengie Molina, C, San Francisco GiantsWednesday 9/30, 12:32 AM CT
Bengie Molina went 4-for-5, blasted two homers and drove in four in the Giants win over Arizona on Tuesday.

Our View: Molina now has 20 homers on the season, which represents a new career high. He has 79 RBI on the season as well, and has been a nice power option at catcher all season.
Bengie Molina, C, San Francisco GiantsFriday 9/25, 10:14 AM CT
Bengie Molina is dealing with a left finger contusion, and probably won't catch much for the Giants this weekend, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Eli Whiteside will be his primary fill-in, but phenom Buster Posey might get a start, or at least some late-inning duty.
Bengie Molina, C, San Francisco GiantsSaturday 9/19, 1:41 PM CT
Bengie Molina is getting a day off on Saturday. Molina will be replaced by Eli Whiteside, who will catch starter Brad Penny.

Our View: Molina has been playing quite a bit lately, so he is just getting a routine day off. He is hitting the ball well right now, and he should stay hot when he returns to the lineup tomorrow.
Bengie Molina, C, San Francisco GiantsThursday 9/17, 12:32 AM CT
Bengie Molina singled in the first run of a three-run ninth inning rally on Wednesday, but the Giants would fall just short against the Rockies, losing 4-3 at home.

Our View: Molina now has five hits and four RBI in his past three games, and will have to hit extraordinarily well down the stretch if San Francisco is to have any hope of making the playoffs.
Bengie Molina, C, San Francisco GiantsSaturday 9/12, 11:25 PM CT
Bengie Molina collected one of just four Giants hits on Saturday night, as the Dodgers demoralized them 9-1 at home.

Our View: Molina is batting just .242 in ten September games, and if you are in a dog-fight in your league, you might be better off finding a hot hand and going with him for the stretch run.
Bengie Molina, C, San Francisco GiantsFriday 9/4, 10:51 PM CT
Bengie Molina hit a game-winning solo shot on Friday to lead the Giants to a 3-2 victory over the Brewers. Molina was 1-for-4 on the night with the homer.

Our View: Molina has missed time with injury over the last few weeks, but he looks to be close to 100 percent now. His home run was huge for the Giants tonight, as they need to win as many games as they can against teams like Milwaukee.
Bengie Molina, C, San Francisco GiantsThursday 9/3, 4:58 PM CT
Bengie Molina is back in the Giants' lineup on Thursday, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. Molina will be behind the plate and hit fourth for the team tonight.

Our View: The Giants will welcome back Molina tonight, as they need their full compliment of starters down the stretch in the playoff run. He will catch Tim Lincecum tonight, and it should make Lincecum a bit more comfortale now that his catcher is back.
Bengie Molina, C, San Francisco GiantsTuesday 9/1, 3:37 PM CT
The San Jose Mercury News is reporting that Giants' catcher Bengie Molina is not in the starting lineup on Tuesday. Eli Whiteside will be behind the plate once again.

Our View: Molina is still dealing with a quad injury, and he still isn't ready to return. He has said he wants to be 100 percent before he returns full time, so obviously he is still being bothered by the injury. We still expect him to be back in the next few days.
Bengie Molina, C, San Francisco GiantsSunday 8/30, 1:01 PM CT
MLB.com is reporting that Giants' catcher Bengie Molina is doing better and is available to pinch-hit. Molina has missed four straight games with a mild strain of his right quad.

Our View: Molina is expecting to return to the lineup in the next few days, and he is available to pinch-hit if the team needs him today. Both he and the team wanted to make sure he was 100 percent when he returns, which explains why the minor injury has kept him out for nearly a week.
Bengie Molina, C, San Francisco GiantsFriday 8/28, 8:29 AM CT
The San Francisco Chronicle is reporting that Giants' catcher Bengie Molina has a mild strain of his right quad. Molina will likely be out Friday, and his status for the rest of the weekend is in question.

Our View: The Giants have a huge series against the Rockies this weekend, but Molina wants to make sure he is healthy before returning to the field. We wouldn't be surprised if he played at some point this weekend, but it seems highly doubtful he will be ready to go by tonight.
Bengie Molina, C, San Francisco GiantsThursday 8/27, 7:29 PM CT
Bengie Molina is again out the Giants lineup on Thursday night while battling an aching quad, according to the San Jose Mercury News.

Our View: The team is awaiting the results of an MRI on the quad. Regardless of its results, his status for this weekend is murky at best.
Bengie Molina, C, San Francisco GiantsWednesday 8/26, 11:57 PM CT
Bengie Molina's eighth inning pinch-hit on Wednesday might have been his biggest of the season. The ailing catcher crushed a Chad Qualls delivery for a three-run homer, helping the Giants rally for a 4-3 win at home, while moving them back to only two games behind the Rockies for the National League wild card.

Our View: With 67 RBI, Molina is cruising toward his third straight 80-RBI season, and with 16 home runs, has a very good chance to post his first ever 20 home run campaign in 2009.
Bengie Molina, C, San Francisco GiantsWednesday 8/26, 7:08 PM CT
Bengie Molina is out of tonight's lineup against the Cardinals while recovering from a quad ailment, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Our View: Eli Whiteside will work behind the plate in his absence. It is uncertain when Molina will be ready to return to action.
Bengie Molina, C, San Francisco GiantsFriday 8/21, 12:36 PM CT
According to the San Jose Mercury News, Giants' catcher Bengie Molina would like to return to the team after this season. Molina is set to become a free agent, and the team has top prospect Buster Posey waiting in the wings.

Our View: Molina said he wants a two-year deal and he wants it to be with the Giants. The team would like to have him back, especially if they don't think Posey will be ready to start the season with the big league club next season. The money figures to be an issue on a two-year deal, because Posey will certainly be ready to take over by the 2011 season.
Bengie Molina, C, San Francisco GiantsThursday 8/20, 11:19 AM CT
The San Jose Mercury News reports that Bengie Molina is not in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Reds.

Our View: Molina is fine, and is just getting a scheduled day off. The Giants sat Edgar Renteria as well to make sure that both players are fresh for the big upcoming weekend series with the Rockies. They should both be back in tomorrow. Adjust your lineups accordingly.
Bengie Molina, C, San Francisco GiantsSaturday 8/8, 6:28 PM CT
Bengie Molina provided the offense for the Giants on Saturday. He touched Reds pitching for a double, home run and three RBI in San Fran's 4-2 win. He finshed the day 3-for-4.

Our View: The Giants' backstop now has 13 long balls and 60 driven in this season. He's homered in back to back games and is hitting well over .300 for the month of August.
Bengie Molina, C, San Francisco GiantsTuesday 8/4, 11:21 PM CT
Bengie Molina had a big night for the Giants on Tuesday as San Francisco beat the Astros 8-1. Molina went 3-for-5 with a double, a run scored, and two RBI in the win.

Our View: Molina has been struggling mightily as of late, but he made his case to stay in the cleanup spot with his performance tonight. He needs to pick it up at the plate if the Giants are going to stay in the wild card hunt, as he is still one of the top offensive options in San Fran.
Bengie Molina, C, San Francisco GiantsTuesday 8/4, 8:38 AM CT
The slumping Bengie Molina could be dropped from the Giants cleanup spot, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Our View: Molina is batting just .204 with no home runs and three RBI in his last 13 games, a span over which the Giants have put together many futile offensive efforts. There is no obvious candidate to replace him in the four-spot, but Pablo Sandoval and the recently acquired Ryan Garko make the most sense.
Bengie Molina, C, San Francisco GiantsSunday 7/26, 12:25 PM CT
Bengie Molina is not in the Giants' lineup for their Sunday afternoon game against the Rockies. Molina will be replaced by Eli Whiteside, who will catch Matt Cain today.

Our View: This looks like a case of a catcher getting the day off during a day game, so nothing to worry about here. Expect him back for the team's next game, and he should resume his role as the team's cleanup hitter.
Bengie Molina, C, San Francisco GiantsSunday 7/19, 3:21 PM CT
Bengie Molina went 3-for-3 on Sunday, helping Matt Cain and the Giants to a 4-3 win over the Pirates.

Our View: Molina is hitting .266 on the season, not great for a cleanup hitter, but indeed good for a catcher. He remains a must-own in every format.
Bengie Molina, C, San Francisco GiantsFriday 7/10, 8:22 PM CT
Bengie Molina is out of tonight's lineup against the Padres, according to the Mercury News.

Our View: Molina was a late scratch as his wife is expecting to deliver a baby. Eli Whiteside will serve behind the plate in his absence.
Bengie Molina, C, San Francisco GiantsFriday 7/10, 12:01 AM CT
Bengie Molina went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer off Josh Geer in tonight's 9-3 win over the Padres at AT&T Park.

Our View: Molina hit his 11th homer of the season, and co-leads the Giants with Pablo Sandoval with 50 RBI. Molina should remain a solid performer among fantasy catchers.
Bengie Molina, C, San Francisco GiantsSaturday 7/4, 8:06 AM CT
MLB.com is reporting that Giants' catcher Bengie Molina got the day off on Friday. He was replaced by Eli Whiteside behind the plate. It was just a routine day off, and was not due to injury.

Our View: Many people thought originally that Whiteside was given the start since rookie Ryan Sadowski was on the mound, but the Giants are saying that had nothing to do with the decision. While Sadowski may be more comfortable with Whiteside, the Giants can't afford to sit Bengie every time Sadowski pitches.
Bengie Molina, C, San Francisco GiantsWednesday 7/1, 10:33 PM CT
Bengie Molina drove in a run for the fourth straight game, but it was the Giants only run, as the Cardinals won 2-1 in ten innings.

Our View: Molina is a premier fantasy catcher, and a potential All Star this season.
Bengie Molina, C, San Francisco GiantsWednesday 7/1, 12:03 AM CT
Bengie Molina was productive in tonight's 6-3 win at St. Louis, as he went 2-for-4 with two RBI. He hit a single and a double.

Our View: Molina has an RBI in three straight games, and has 13 in June. He leads the Giants with 45 RBI, and should remain a solid option among fantasy catchers heading into the new month.
Bengie Molina, C, San Francisco GiantsMonday 6/29, 10:25 PM CT
Bengie Molina went 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored in tonight's 10-0 win at St. Louis. All three of his knocks were singles.

Our View: Molina broke out of his slump as he was 0-for-12 over his previous three games. He should return to being a solid option among fantasy backstops.
Bengie Molina, C, San Francisco GiantsTuesday 6/23, 11:44 PM CT
Bengie Molina knocked in his 41st run of the season on Tuesday as Tim Lincecum and the Giants dispatched the A's 4-1.

Our View: While his average is hovering around .260, Molina is still one of the majors best fantasy options at catcher, and will continue to be so as the season progresses. If you own him, you shouldn't be worrying about the position at all.
Bengie Molina, C, San Francisco GiantsSaturday 6/13, 11:55 PM CT
Bengie Molina led the Giants offensively in Saturday's 5-2 win over Oakland at AT&T Park, as he went 2-for-3 with a two-run homer off Josh Outman. His other knock was a double.

Our View: Molina remains a solid option among fantasy catchers, and he leads the Giants with 10 homers and 39 RBI.
Bengie Molina, C, San Francisco GiantsThursday 6/11, 2:35 PM CT
Bengie Molina will get the day off when the Giants face the Diamondbacks this afternoon, according to the San Jose Mercury News.

Our View: It's a day game after a night game, so this comes as no surprise. Big Money remains on pace for over 100 RBI this season, making him among the more valuable fantasy catchers.
Bengie Molina, C, San Francisco GiantsThursday 6/11, 12:10 AM CT
Bengie Molina was 2-for-5 with his ninth home run, three RBI, and a run scored as the Giants defeated the Diamondbacks 6-4 on Wednesday.

Our View: Molina remains on pace for over 100 RBI this season as the cleanup hitter for the Giants. The 34-year-old continues to surpass most expectations.
Bengie Molina, C, San Francisco GiantsSunday 6/7, 8:57 PM CT
Bengie Molina was 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI in the Giants' 3-2 win over the Marlins on Sunday.

Our View: The slugging backstop now has 34 RBI on the season, but he has been slumping lately. After a hot April, he hit just .200 in the month of May. Looks like he couldn't wait for June as he's collected at least on hit in all but one game this month.
Bengie Molina, C, San Francisco GiantsSunday 5/31, 12:21 AM CT
Bengie Molina went 1-for-4 with an RBI single in Saturday's 6-2 loss to the Cardinals at AT&T Park.

Our View: Molina has a hit in three straight games, and ended a 10-game drought without an RBI. Molina is only hitting .200 in May, but still leads the team with eight homers and 31 RBI for the season.
Bengie Molina, C, San Francisco GiantsSunday 5/17, 10:15 PM CT
Catcher Bengie Molina was 2-for-4 with an RBI as the Giants defeated the Mets 2-0 on Sunday.

Our View: Molina has just three RBI over his last 10 games, but he still has 29 on the season. Molina is a huge fantasy asset as he plays a premium position, hits clean-up for the Giants, and does it all well.
Bengie Molina, C, San Francisco GiantsThursday 5/7, 5:29 PM CT
Bengie Molina had a huge day at the plate on Thursday, going 3-for-5 with two home runs, two runs, and four RBI. Molina has seven homers on the season.

Our View: Molina has been outstanding so far in 2009, especially in the power department. He is quickly becoming one of the better fantasy catchers in baseball, so he is a strong play in all leagues at the catcher's position.
Bengie Molina, C, San Francisco GiantsWednesday 5/6, 7:18 AM CT
Bengie Molina indicated that he is fine after being struck on the left elbow by a pitch by Jeff Samardzija during Tuesday's battle with Chicago, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Our View: Molina hit a three-run homer in the win, and the Giants are 11-0 this season when they score first. He should not miss any time with the ailment.
Bengie Molina, C, San Francisco GiantsTuesday 5/5, 4:47 PM CT
Bengie Molina had a strong day at the plate on Tuesday, going 2-for-4 with a three-run homer against the Cubs. The long ball was Molina's fifth and the Giants went on to win 6-2.

Our View: Molina continues to be a strong fantasy catcher despite his age and fantasy pundits predicting his decline for years. He's now hitting .304 with five homers and 23 RBI and hasn't appeared to lose a step in 2009. We're not surprised.
Bengie Molina, C, San Francisco GiantsThursday 4/30, 12:20 AM CT
Bengie Molina went 3-for-5 with a home run, a triple, four RBI, and a run scored in the Giants 9-4 win over the Dodgers on Wednesday.

Our View: Molina was 0-for-5 in his last two games against the Dodgers but he let them know tonight that he should be feared. Big Money now has 18 RBI and four home runs through 20 games and he is hitting .329 as the Giants cleanup hitter.
Bengie Molina, C, San Francisco GiantsFriday 4/24, 11:55 PM CT
Bengie Molina had a great day at the dish on Friday, going 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBI in the Giants' 5-1 win over Arizona.

Our View: Molina continues to shine as one of the better hitting catchers in the league. He's hitting .333 with three home runs and 13 RBI, but has struck out a surprising nine times already. Last year he was one of the toughest men to strike out in the majors.
Bengie Molina, C, San Francisco GiantsWednesday 4/22, 5:48 PM CT
Although Bengie Molina did not get the start on Wednesday, he was probably still the Giants MVP. His pinch-hit ground rule double in the tenth inning gave the Giants a 1-0 win.

Our View: Pablo Sandoval got the start due to his ability to handle Barry Zito. Zito threw seven shutout innings today so it would appear that Molina will continue to get days off when the southpaw is on the mound.
Bengie Molina, C, San Francisco GiantsWednesday 4/22, 7:53 AM CT
Bengie Molina will not start today's game against the Padres as skipper Bruce Bochy wants Pablo Sandoval to catch Barry Zito, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Our View: Zito is 0-2 with 10 earned runs over nine innings, and Bochy is hoping that Sandoval can help get him on track. Zito was 3-0 with a 3.21 ERA over five starts that Sandoval caught in 2008. Molina gets his first day off after starting 13 straight games.
Bengie Molina, C, San Francisco GiantsMonday 4/13, 7:18 AM CT
Bengie Molina noted that he felt his hip lock for a moment while catching Jeremy Affeldt's final pitch in Sunday's game, but the catcher felt fine thereafter, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Our View: Molina has a hit in five of six games so far, with one homer and seven RBI over the span. The Giants start a three-game set at the Dodgers Monday.
Bengie Molina, C, San Francisco GiantsSunday 4/12, 7:42 AM CT
Bengie Molina is expected to catch today's game at San Diego following a night game, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Our View: Molina has six hits over his first 19 at-bats of the season, but does not have a good track record against San Diego, as he holds a .231 batting average over 39 career meetings.
Bengie Molina, C, San Francisco GiantsSunday 4/5, 8:06 PM CT
Bengie Molina was 2-for-3 with an RBI in the final game of Cactus League play on Sunday.

Our View: Bengie continues to hit, and may be the most established offensive producer in the Giants' lineup. He thrives on contact as he only struck out 38 times last season, but he's not very patient, walking only 19 times in '08. He's a decent fantasy option at catcher after the big guns are taken.
Bengie Molina, C, San Francisco GiantsWednesday 12/10, 8:19 AM CT
As of now, skipper Bruce Bochy envisions Bengie Molina to bat clean-up for 2009, according to the SF Chronicle.

Our View: Bochy also projects newly acquired shortstop Edgar Renteria to bat second between leadoff man Randy Winn and Pablo Sandoval. Molina would have a shot to top 100 RBI from the clean-up spot next season, after ending with 95 in 2008.
Bengie Molina, C, San Francisco GiantsSaturday 9/27, 12:27 PM CT
Bengie Molina hit a home run on Friday night, but did not get the run scored. His hit was originally ruled a single and the Giants sent in a pinch-runner for him according to the L.A. Times. But then the hit went for a review after Omar Vizquel said he heard it hit the top of the wall! The hit was then ruled a home run but since the change had already been made, Molina did not account for the run.

Our View: That was odd. Emmanuel Burriss, the pinch-runner, trotted around the bases and was credited with the run.
Bengie Molina, C, San Francisco GiantsSunday 9/21, 1:26 AM CT
Bengie Molina went 3-for-5 with a run scored in Saturday's 10-7 loss to the Dodgers. He hit a single and two doubles.

Our View: Molina has registered multiple hits in three straight games, with eight hits over the span. He has also scored a run in four straight games.
Bengie Molina, C, San Francisco GiantsTuesday 9/16, 1:41 PM CT
Bengie Molina would like to receive a contract extension from the San Francisco Giants, as he will be a free agent after the 2009 season, according to the San Jose Mercury News.

Our View: Frankly, that doesn't seem all that likely, as Pablo Sandoval has been crushing the ball, and Buster Posey, the team's first-round draft pick, could be on the fast track to the major leagues.
Bengie Molina, C, San Francisco GiantsSaturday 9/13, 11:57 PM CT
Bengie Molina went 2-for-5 with three RBI in Saturday's 7-0 win over the Padres. He hit a single and a two-run homer.

Our View: Molina has recorded two hits in three of his last six games, with two homers over the span. He now has 86 RBI, and the Giants have 14 games left in the season for him to challenge 100.
Bengie Molina, C, San Francisco GiantsWednesday 9/10, 8:11 AM CT
Bengie Molina is not happy that he sat Tuesday night in favor of Pablo Sandoval, who Molina believes has become the personal catcher to hurler Barry Zito, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. "It is a personal catcher whether they say that or not. I'm not very happy at all. I can't be happy. I came here to play. If they don't consider me a No. 1 catcher, if I can't catch the No. 1 guy on the staff, let me know. I ain't stupid. I don't think I've ever been stupid," Molina said.

Our View: Molina has been an excellent catcher for fantasy owners this season, with 83 RBI on the year to go with a .289 average and 12 home runs. The only thing we would question is him calling Barry Zito the No. 1 guy on the staff. Tim Lincecum, anybody?
Bengie Molina, C, San Francisco GiantsTuesday 9/9, 5:12 PM CT
Bengie Molina continued his mini tear last night against the Diamondbacks hitting his 12th home run on the year and is nine for his last 21.

Our View: Molina is having one of his best offensive season with 12 home runs, 82 RBI and is hitting .287. He has been a solid hitter all year.
Bengie Molina, C, San Francisco GiantsMonday 9/1, 9:20 PM CT
Bengie Molina had three hits on Monday, one of only two Giants who had more than one hit against the Rockies (Rich Aurilia had two).

Our View: Molina leads the Giants offense with 79 RBI, quite a hefty total for a backstop wouldn't you say?
Bengie Molina, C, San Francisco GiantsSunday 8/24, 6:38 PM CT
Giants catcher Bengie Molina almost single-handedly beat the Padres by going 3-for-4 with a home run as part of a five RBI day in San Francisco's 7-4 win over the Padres.

Our View: Molina has been great at driving in runs for fantasy owners. He now has 77 on the season, though they have come with just 10 home runs.
Bengie Molina, C, San Francisco GiantsFriday 8/15, 10:20 PM CT
Bengie Molina hasn't done much at the plate since July, but he had a big game Friday, picking up four singles and two RBI.

Our View: Molina has put together a solid .286-9-68 line on the year.
Bengie Molina, C, San Francisco GiantsSaturday 8/9, 12:19 AM CT
Bengie Molina hit his ninth home run of the season on Friday night as he knocked in his team leading 64th and 65th runs of the year for the Giants.

Our View: Molina clearly would have to get on his horse to match last years total of 19 home runs, but he is still within striking distance of the 81 RBI he produced last season.
Bengie Molina, C, San Francisco GiantsThursday 7/31, 7:29 AM CT
Bengie Molina played the entire game Wednesday and is not believed to be traded, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. However, the Twins have talked with the Giants about a couple players, including Rich Aurilia and Jack Taschner. ESPN's Jayson Stark has reported that the Twins were willing to give up Boof Bonser, a former Giants farmhand.

Our View: Molina has been one of the few bright spots on the Giants' roster thus far. We're likely to see the team make at least one move today, but that move is unlikely to involve their catcher.
Bengie Molina, C, San Francisco GiantsThursday 7/24, 12:11 AM CT
Bengie Molina continued his recent hot trend on Wednesday night as he posted three hits and two RBI for the Giants. Omar Vizquel also added three hits in the victory.

Our View: Molina only hit .132 over his first 53 AB in July, but he has five hits the past two nights with five RBI thanks to a small adjustment in his swing.
Bengie Molina, C, San Francisco GiantsTuesday 7/22, 11:54 PM CT
Bengie Molina hit two home runs and recorded three RBI in a 6-3 win over Washington on Tuesday.

Our View: Molina was hitting only .189 since June 9th, but this night has slump-buster written all over it.
Bengie Molina, C, San Francisco GiantsTuesday 7/22, 7:07 AM CT
Bengie Molina has been struggling so manager Bruce Bochy has considered dropping him down from the cleanup spot in the order until he finds his swing, according to the SF Chronicle. Bochy said, "Yeah, we've thought about tweaking the lineup, but we believe in Bengie. He'll come out of this. He's too good a hitter. If we think we'll have to adjust with anybody, we'll do it. When Bengie comes out of it, he's going to make a lot of noise."

Our View: Molina still co-leads NL catchers with 56 RBI, even though Molina is only hitting .181 since June 9. The team has faith in him, and he hit a few balls hard on Sunday, so he could get back on track soon.
Bengie Molina, C, San Francisco GiantsSaturday 7/12, 4:43 PM CT
San Francisco catcher Bengie Molina may be starting to swing a hot bat again, going 3-for-6 in today's 11-inning loss to the Cubs (8-7). Molina hit two doubles on the day to total two RBIs and two runs scored on the day.

Our View: Molina hit .275 with 13 homers and 27 RBIs last month, but is hitting just .162 with no homers and seven RBIs through July thus far. Today could indicate the start of another streak of good fortune, so keep tabs on his progress.
Bengie Molina, C, San Francisco GiantsSunday 6/15, 7:18 PM CT
Bengie Molina went 0-for-4 but collected his 43rd RBI of the season on a sacrifice fly in Sunday's 5-3 loss to the Athletics.

Our View: Molina is enjoying a strong season, but is in a bit of a slump as he hasn't registered a hit in six straight games.
Bengie Molina, C, San Francisco GiantsSaturday 6/7, 10:35 PM CT
Bengie Molina had another solid night from the middle of the Giants order as he went 2-for-5 with a runs scored and an RBI.

Our View: Big Money Molina really is at the point where he should be considered for the all-star team. He may be overweight and only run slightly faster than a tortoise, but he is hitting .332 with 40 RBI on the year.
Bengie Molina, C, San Francisco GiantsThursday 6/5, 2:31 PM CT
Florida State catcher Buster Posey fell to the Giants at pick five of the draft, according to the AP.

Our View: He is an athletic catcher, who has also played shortstop as well as a closer out of the bullpen, and he was projected to go number one overall to Tamp Bay on several lists. He projects to have average power in the majors, but could be a future Gold Glove contender, as he has a very strong arm. This was a safe pick for the Giants, and he should be the eventual replacement for Bengie Molina, who was 38-years old on opening day.
Bengie Molina, C, San Francisco GiantsThursday 5/29, 12:19 AM CT
San Francisco catcher Bengie Molina can't get much hotter at the plate, helping his team take a big 11-3 win over Arizona. Molina went 3-for-4 with a walk, hitting his 16th double of the season to post two RBIs and two runs scored on the evening.

Our View: This brings Molina to .361 through May, touting 16 RBIs through his last nine games.
Bengie Molina, C, San Francisco GiantsTuesday 5/27, 11:55 PM CT
Bengie Molina was named the NL Player of the Week last week, and he hasn't slowed down. The rotund catcher had a pair of hits, including a three-run homer, in Tuesday's win over Arizona.

Our View: Molina is batting .640 with two homers and 12 RBI over the last six games. His .329-6-34 line so far is outstanding for a backstop.
Bengie Molina, C, San Francisco GiantsTuesday 5/27, 1:01 PM CT
Giants' catcher Bengie Molina has been named the NL Player of the Week, according to the Sports Network. Molina earned the honor by hitting .652 (15-for-23) with six doubles and nine RBI for the week, while compiling a .654 on-base and 1.043 slugging percentage in that span. Bengie Molina recorded his fourth multi-hit game in the last week and extended his hitting streak to six games on Friday night. The Giants catcher went 3-for-5 with a home run and two RBI.

Bengie Molina was set for a day off on Wednesday, but Steve Holm went down due to illness, and Molina was forced to start at catcher against the Rockies, according to MLB.com.

Our View: He has started 38 of San Francisco's first 48 games, putting him on a pace to start 128 games, which is a high amount for a catcher, especially a 33-year old one like Molina. Molina has started six games in a row and 12 of the last 13, including today. He still leads the team with 23 RBI, and holds a solid .289 batting average.

Bengie Molina currently ranks second in the Major League among catchers with 19 RBI, according to MLB.com. Geovany Soto of the Cubs leads with 20.

Our View: Molina is also hitting .296 with four homers (over 25 games), and 17 of his RBI came over the last 17 games. He has proven to be a tremendous value for those fantasy owners who like to hold off and wait to address the catcher position during the draft.

Bengie Molina had two hits on Monday which led to three RBI against the Padres for the Giants. Though he might be the worst cleanup hitter in the majors, Molina knows how to knock in runs, so as long as someone can get on base ahead of him he would figure to have a shot at a second straight 80-RBI season in San Francisco.

Bengie Molina was booed this weekend for not hustling to first and for not trying for extra bases, but he's been told to not run hard to protect his sore quadriceps, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. "They don't know how I feel or what my intentions are," Molina said. "I want to be ready for March 31 (the opener in Los Angeles) instead of trying for a double and be lost for three weeks or a month." He still expects to be ready for the season opener, and you can still expect him to be about as slow a runner as they come, even when healthy.

Recovered from his strained left quadriceps, according to the Giants team website, catcher Bengie Molina played four innings in his first Cactus League game. The report noted that the Giants' starting lineup on Friday resembled what might be the team's Opening Day contingent. Molina continues to get little support from the fantasy community. After playing in 134 games in '07, registering the second most home runs among catchers behind only John Buck of KC, the San Fran backstop is currently the 11th catcher list according to Mock Draft Centrals mixed league ADP chart.

Bengie Molina's quad strain is taking longer than expected to heal, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. He's expected to miss the first few spring training games, but there's no reason to think this will affect his availability for the start of the regular season.

Bengie Molina is dealing with a strained quadriceps that might keep him from taking part in the Giants' first exhibition game on Thursday, according to the Contra Costa Times. "I'd rather miss half the spring and be ready to play the whole season," Molina said. So long as he doesn't aggravate the injury, this shouldn't affect his status for the regular season, though manager Bruce Bochy said Molina was 50-50 for Thursday's contest.

The Giants plan on hitting Bengie Molina cleanup this year. The catcher doesn't feel any added pressure hitting in the spot that had been reserved for Barry Bonds. "I think they have the right guy in me because I don't think about it," Molina said in the AP. "I just see it like I have to stand up at the plate, look for my pitch and hit it hard somewhere. That's the only thing I'm going to try to do. I'm not going to try to hit more home runs or less home runs, but drive in runs with hits. I'm straight up going to be myself." Molina is a nice offensive catcher, but the fact that he's in line to hit fourth just gives you an idea how pathetic the Giants lineup is.
