Damaso Marte, P, New York YankeesFriday 8/21, 5:16 PM CT
The New York Post reports that the Yankees have activated reliever Damaso Marte from the 60-day disabled list.

Our View: Marte had a solid rehab stint after dealing with shoulder tendinitis. Assuming he's healthy he'll be a nice late-inning lefty option out of the pen. Ramiro Pena was sent down to make room.
Damaso Marte, P, New York YankeesFriday 8/21, 3:34 PM CT
The New York Post is reporting that the Yankees plan to activate reliever Damaso Marte before Friday's game. The team has not announced a corresponding move, but it is likely to be a position player.

Our View: Marte hasn't had a great rehab stint, so the Yanks will likely ease him back into the bullpen. Don't expect to see him in a close game this weekend, but if anything gets out of hand he could toss a few innings.
Damaso Marte, P, New York YankeesSaturday 8/1, 9:04 AM CT
Reliever Damaso Marte (shoulder) tossed a scoreless inning for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Friday. The southpaw is now seven games into his rehab stint.

Our View: Previous reports said that Marte's velocity was down, and he has been knocked around a bit at Triple-A. The Yankees aren't going to push him if he's not ready.
Damaso Marte, P, New York YankeesFriday 7/24, 1:41 PM CT
According to the New York Daily News, Yankees' reliever Damaso Marte threw a scoreless inning for Triple-A Scranton on Thursday. Marte is still recovering from left shoulder tendinitis, but his velocity is up to 93 MPH.

Our View: Marte is getting closer and closer, and if his velocity continues to improve he could be back with the Yanks soon. The team likes what they see, but they won't bring him back until he is 100 percent.
Damaso Marte, P, New York YankeesWednesday 7/22, 9:09 AM CT
According to the Journal News, Damaso Marte allowed one run on two hits and a walk during his one inning of work in his rehab assignment on Tuesday.

Our View: Manager Joe Girardi thinks that Marte is at least a week away and said that "the results will dictate when he's ready" to return from his shoulder injury. His return would significantly deepen the Yankees pen.
Damaso Marte, P, New York YankeesTuesday 7/21, 10:05 AM CT
MLB.com is reporting that Yankees' reliever Damaso Marte's rehab assignment has been moved to Triple-A Scranton. Marte is expected to make his first appearance for the team on Tuesday.

Our View: Marte looks to be close to a return, and a few successful outings in Triple-A could get him back in the Yanks' bullpen sooner rather than later. He will not be fantasy relevant as a middle reliever upon his return, but if he is completely healthy he could add depth to an already solid New York bullpen.
Damaso Marte, P, New York YankeesMonday 7/20, 11:25 AM CT
The New York Post is reporting that Yankees' pitcher Damaso Marte is not expected to rejoin the team this week. Marte is on a rehab assignment at the Gulf Coast League, and manager Joe Girardi believes Marte needs more work.

Our View: Marte's velocity was reportedly up in his last outing on Saturday, but Girardi doesn't seem to be in much of a hurry to get Marte back. With the dominance of Phil Hughes in the setup role, Marte will not need to be rushed back to New York until he is fully ready.
Damaso Marte, P, New York YankeesThursday 7/16, 4:43 PM CT
Damaso Marte allowed one earned run on two hits over one inning in the first outing of his rehab assignment with the Gulf Coast League Yankees, according to the New York Post.

Our View: Marte has been on the shelf for two and a half months with weakness and tendinitis in his pitching shoulder. 11 of his 12 pitches landed for strikes, and he reported no issues with his shoulder. He will play in his next rehab game Saturday.
Damaso Marte, P, New York YankeesMonday 6/15, 4:41 PM CT
Damaso Marte will resume his throwing program in Tampa after visiting with Dr. James Andrews in Alabama, according to the Associated Press. Marte is dealing with weakness and tendinitis in his pitching shoulder.

Our View: This is encouraging news for Marte, but he does not hold much fantasy value as a middle reliever.
Damaso Marte, P, New York YankeesSaturday 6/13, 9:28 AM CT
According to the New York Daily News, Yankees' reliever Damaso Marte has suffered a setback in his rehab and is set to visit Dr. James Andrews to have his left shoulder examined. Marte hasn't pitched since April 25.

Our View: The most dreaded trip a major league pitcher can make is the one to Birmingham to meet with Dr. Andrews. We won't know for a few days how the results turn out, but it is safe to say Marte's 2009 season is very much in doubt. Stay tuned for updates on his condition.
Damaso Marte, P, New York YankeesFriday 6/5, 7:54 PM CT
Damaso Marte threw a 25-pitch bullpen session Friday, according to the Star-Ledger. He is rehabbing an inflamed left shoulder.

Our View: Skipper Joe Girardi noted that his session went well. Marte could return to the Yankees' bullpen soon, but does not hold much fantasy value as a middle reliever.
Damaso Marte, P, New York YankeesWednesday 6/3, 8:19 AM CT
According to the Journal News, Damaso Marte is slated to throw a bullpen session on Friday.

Our View: Marte is still at least two weeks away from rejoining the Yankees due to lingering shoulder tendinitis. He will likely be re-evaluated after the bullpen session. The Yankees don't want to bring him back until he's healthy and effective. He has been neither this season with a 15.19 ERA in 5.1 innings.
Damaso Marte, P, New York YankeesMonday 5/25, 1:56 PM CT
Damaso Marte has resumed throwing off flat ground Monday, according to the Associated Press. He is recovering from tendinitis in his left shoulder.

Our View: Marte could be back in early June, but he allowed nine earned runs and three homers over 5.1 innings of relief prior to going down, and is not worth waiting for in fantasy leagues.
Damaso Marte, P, New York YankeesSunday 5/3, 1:21 PM CT
The New York Daily News is reporting that the Yankees have placed Damaso Marte on the 15-day DL with tendinitis in his shoulder. Anthony Claggett will be called up to replace him.

Our View: Marte has been dealing with some shoulder issues, and combined with the fact that he has been awful so far this season, the Yankees put him on the DL. Marte doesn't figure to be much better when he comes back, but you never know.
Damaso Marte, P, New York YankeesWednesday 3/18, 11:01 AM CT
Damaso Marte reported no issues following a 30-pitch pen session on Tuesday, according to the NY Daily News. He has been dealing with inflammation in his throwing shoulder.

Our View: He will throw again tomorrow, and could pitch in a game this weekend. Marte could be the Yankees' setup man if healthy.
Damaso Marte, P, New York YankeesSaturday 3/14, 6:18 PM CT
Damaso Marte's physical exam on Saturday showed inflammation in his throwing shoulder, according to the Journal News.

Our View: Marte will likely be shut down for an indefinite period. He is competing for a set up job in the Yankees' bullpen.
Damaso Marte, P, New York YankeesFriday 3/13, 5:24 PM CT
Damaso Marte has been experiencing tightness in his chest and will be evaluated by team doctors on Saturday. His return to the team from the WBC will be delayed.

Our View: Marte finished the year strong with the Yankees and should be a valuable piece of the bullpen in 2009, but he has little fantasy value as a middle reliever.
Damaso Marte, P, New York YankeesWednesday 11/12, 2:21 PM CT
Damaso Marte has signed a three-year deal to remain with the Yankees, according to the Associated Press. Financial terms were not disclosed, but it is believed the deal is worth $12 million.

Our View: He took time to get adjusted to the Yankees and the AL since being acquired from the Pirates, but finished the year strong as he only allowed two earned runs in his final 16 appearances (11 innings). He would have been a favorable target among teams if allowed to hit the free agent market.
Damaso Marte, P, New York YankeesThursday 11/6, 5:28 PM CT
Damaso Marte had his 2009 option declined by the Yankees on Thursday, though the team certainly hasn't closed the door on bringing back Marte at a rate less than the $6 million he was to earn on his old deal, according to the Yankees Official Website.

Our View: Marte is a solid left handed reliever, he posted a 1.20 WHIP with a strong 9.83 K/9 mark this past season in 72 appearances, and he will clearly be a target of many clubs once the free agent period begins.
Damaso Marte, P, New York YankeesMonday 8/4, 10:51 PM CT
Damaso Marte got the loss for the Yankees as he gave up a grand slam to Marlon Byrd of Texas in the bottom of the ninth.

Our View: Marte has value in leagues that use holds, or in AL-only leagues for owners needing a boost in strikeouts.
Damaso Marte, P, New York YankeesFriday 7/25, 7:25 PM CT
Not only did New York land one of the most coveted bats of the trading season, they also got one of the most coveted relief arms when they acquired Xavier Nady and Damaso Marte for four prospects, according to SI.com.

Our View: Marte and his 1.16 WHIP had been on the radar of many teams, but he and Nady go to New York for a package of Tabata, Ross Ohlendorf, Phil Coke and one other minor league prospect.
Damaso Marte, P, New York YankeesTuesday 7/22, 7:38 AM CT
A team source reported that Boston's interest in Damaso Marte has heightened, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Our View: The Red Sox are said to be one one many teams interested in the Pirates' reliever. Marte has racked up 46 strikeouts over 45.2 innings, but holds a 3.55 ERA and 1.16 WHIP. His fantasy value would likely decrease with a new team as he would probably be moved out of his current role of closer to fit into a setup role.
Damaso Marte, P, New York YankeesWednesday 7/9, 6:42 PM CT
With Matt Capps out until September, if not the rest of the season, Damaso Marte has inherited the Pirates closer role. Marte has the peripherals to be a solid ninth inning option. Over the last four seasons the left-hander has recorded K rates of 9.5 to 10.7. Couple that with his current 2.7 BB rate and he offers fantasy managers cheap saves for the next two months.

Our View: It's worth mentioning that Marte is a candidate to be moved before the July 31 trade deadline, and if the Pirates barter off Marte, Tyler Yates is in line to take over the team's closer duties. Yates isn't nearly as efficient as Marte. His 6.1 K rate, 6.7 BB rate and low ground ball to fly ball ratio could be more damaging long-term than what the right-hander offers in short-term saves.
Damaso Marte, P, New York YankeesMonday 7/7, 10:07 PM CT
Damaso Marte recorded three outs in the ninth inning, allowing one walk, and earned his second save in a 10-7 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Monday night.

Our View: Marte will receive the majority of the ninth inning work while Matt Capps is out the next 4-6 weeks.
Damaso Marte, P, New York YankeesSunday 6/22, 10:07 AM CT
There have been more than a few reports indicating he was on his way out of town, but it now appears Pittsburgh is no longer interested in parting ways with reliever Damaso Marte , according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Our View: The team was accepting trade offers for the veteran reliever during the offseason, but the failure to find allure in those offers has led the Pirates to seek salary arbitration with Marte. Such a move would insure the team will, at the very least, receive compensatory draft picks should Marte sign with another franchise in free agency, and his work thus far this season (holding right-handed batters to an impressive .202 batting average against) shows he may be worth keeping.
Damaso Marte, P, New York YankeesFriday 2/22, 3:30 PM CT
Damaso Marte missed his first couple of throwing sessions this spring due to the flu, so he opted to get in a session on Friday to try and catch up with the rest of the Pirates' pitchers, according to MLB.com. "He looked real good," said pitching coach Jeff Andrews. "He just wanted to get in and throw." He'll toss another session Sunday, face hitters on Wednesday and likley make his spring debut on March 3.
Damaso Marte, P, New York YankeesThursday 1/31, 11:03 AM CT
Damaso Marte was involved in a three-car accident Tuesday in the Dominican Republic, but he escaped with just a stiff neck. The lefty is still expected to be cleared to pitch in the Caribbean World Series this weekend. "We're going to be very careful, with how accidents often show their effects on the second day," GM Neal Huntington said in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. "But right now, based on everything we know, he's fine. And this series means a lot to Damaso and his country." Huntington went on to say: "Damaso sounded surprised that anybody was making a fuss over it."
Damaso Marte, P, New York YankeesSunday 6/3, 9:09 AM CT
Damaso Marte was available to pitch Saturday, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. He had been held out of the previous two games to rest a strained biceps.
Damaso Marte, P, New York YankeesSaturday 6/2, 9:42 AM CT
Damaso Marte has been unavailable the past two games. He's dealing with a strained biceps, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Manager Jim Tracy said it was "nothing serious," so consider Marte to be day-to-day.
Damaso Marte, P, New York YankeesMonday 11/27, 10:43 AM CT
The Pirates have exercised their 2007 option on Damaso Marte, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. He'll make $3 million next season, making him the team's highest-paid reliever. "He's been a reliable performer for us," general manager Dave Littlefield said. "We like what he brings us from the left side and what we have over there as a whole with John Grabow and Mike Gonzalez."
Damaso Marte, P, New York YankeesThursday 9/28, 9:47 AM CT
Damaso Marte was unavailable last night and likely will be again tonight after leaving the game Tuesday with a muscle spasm in his lower back, according to the Tribune-Review.
