Jim Thome, 1B, Los Angeles DodgersThursday 10/22, 8:34 AM CT
ESPN's Jorge Arangure reports that slugger Jim Thome has no plans to retire.

Our View: Thome just wrapped up his 19th season, hitting 23 home runs in 124 games. He is a free agent, and will almost certainly need to sign with an American League team where he can DH. While the market for DHs is expected to be incredibly tight, Thome and his 564 career homers should be able to land a job somewhere.
Jim Thome, 1B, Los Angeles DodgersSaturday 10/10, 6:38 PM CT
Jim Thome is hopeful of returning to the White Sox next season, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

Our View: Thome noted that he is very fond of Chicago, and admitted that he had a hard time approving his trade to the Dodgers. The 39-year-old vet added that the Sox treated him great.
Jim Thome, 1B, Los Angeles DodgersTuesday 9/1, 9:44 AM CT
According to ESPNChicago.com, Jim Thome will only play first base for the Dodgers in an emergency situation. The team plans to use Thome specifically as a pinch-hitter for the rest of the season.

Our View: Manager Joe Torre hinted that the team may try to play Thome at first some, but GM Ned Colleti reiterated that Thome will only come off the bench. This move still seems a bit odd, but the Dodgers felt like they needed to add to their bench for the playoffs.
Jim Thome, 1B, Los Angeles DodgersMonday 8/31, 11:13 PM CT
Updating an earlier report, Jim Thome has reportedly been traded to the Dodgers, according to Mark Gonzales' (Chicago Tribune) twitter page.

Our View: He was waived Monday, and did not address reporters after tonight's battle in Minnesota. Thome does have a no-trade clause in his contract.
Jim Thome, 1B, Los Angeles DodgersMonday 8/31, 6:52 PM CT
The White Sox have reportedly sent out a memo to some MLB teams stating that Jim Thome is available, according to ESPN.

Our View: The slugger is hitting .252 with 23 homers and 74 RBI in his fourth campaign with Chicago, and apparently the club is losing faith in catching the Tigers in the AL Central. They are currently 5.5 games back, and were swept by the Yankees over the weekend.
Jim Thome, 1B, Los Angeles DodgersSaturday 8/29, 3:07 PM CT
Jim Thome went 1-for-3 with a double in Saturday's 10-0 loss at New York.

Our View: Thome registered Chicago's lone hit of the game, and they were dealt their 11th shutout loss of the season. He collected his 14th double of 2009, and the 412th of his career.
Jim Thome, 1B, Los Angeles DodgersSaturday 8/22, 12:12 AM CT
Jim Thome went 2-for-3 Friday, and his solo home run accounted for the only score the Sox could muster in a 5-1 loss to the Orioles.

Our View: Thome now has 23 jacks this season and is proving that the old dog can still get it done. He's had at least 20 homers in all but one season (2005) since 1994. The .254 average isn't juicy, but he power numbers help make up for it.
Jim Thome, 1B, Los Angeles DodgersFriday 8/21, 9:35 AM CT
Jim Thome will return to the White Sox's lineup on Friday, according to MLB.com. Thome has missed three straight games while dealing with a heel injury.

Our View: Manager Ozzie Guillen confirmed that Thome will return tonight, so it is safe to get him back in your fantasy lineup. His heel is feeling much better, and he should be a solid play for the rest of the season.
Jim Thome, 1B, Los Angeles DodgersWednesday 8/19, 10:25 AM CT
Jim Thome will sit out his third straight game on Wednesday while dealing with a heel injury, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Our View: The White Sox are facing Zack Greinke on Wednesday, so it makes sense to give Thome one more day off to get completely healthy.
Jim Thome, 1B, Los Angeles DodgersTuesday 8/18, 11:01 PM CT
Jim Thome is set to return to Chicago's lineup Wednesday against the Royals after missing the last two games with a left heel injury, according to MLB.com.

Our View: The slugger should be fine to return to fantasy lineups, but will have a tough match-up against ace hurler Zack Greinke, who boasts an 11-7 record and an AL-leading 2.33 ERA.
Jim Thome, 1B, Los Angeles DodgersSunday 8/16, 8:19 PM CT
According to the Chicago Sun-Times, Jim Thome aggravated a left foot injury in Sunday's game and will sit out Monday's contest.

Our View: Consider Thome day-to-day for now. He'll likely be replaced at DH by the ailing Carlos Quentin.
Jim Thome, 1B, Los Angeles DodgersFriday 8/14, 6:24 PM CT
Jim Thome is out of tonight's lineup at Oakland, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Our View: The veteran slugger is not hurt, and manager Ozzie Guillen is just benching him against left-handed hurler Brett Anderson. Scott Podsednik will serve in the DH role in his place, and will bat leadoff.
Jim Thome, 1B, Los Angeles DodgersSaturday 8/8, 10:49 PM CT
Jim Thome ripped his 21st homer of the season in the White Sox' 8-5 win over the Indians on Saturday. He was 2-for-5 with a pair of RBI on the day.

Our View: The ageless slugger has already popped four homers this month and continues to prove year after year that he can still get it done. He now has at least 20 homers in 15 of his last 16 seasons.
Jim Thome, 1B, Los Angeles DodgersWednesday 8/5, 9:57 PM CT
Jim Thome carried the Sox offensively in tonight's 6-2 win over the Angels at U.S. Cellular Field, as he went 2-for-4 with two homers and four RBI.

Jim Thome, 1B, Los Angeles DodgersFriday 7/31, 7:56 AM CT
As expected, Jim Thome returned to action on Thursday night and went 1-for-4 in the White Sox win over the Yankees.

Our View: Thome had not played in the last two games due to a sore neck. He continues to be one of the more consistent sources of power, though he is hitting just .250, at the age of 38.
Jim Thome, 1B, Los Angeles DodgersWednesday 7/29, 9:26 PM CT
Jim Thome is aiming for Thursday to return to the diamond, according to MLBblogs.com. He is currently out while dealing with tightness in his lower back.

Our View: The Sox are not concerned that the ailment will bother him down the stretch. The Sox will battle the Yankees on Thursday.
Jim Thome, 1B, Los Angeles DodgersTuesday 7/28, 5:10 PM CT
Jim Thome is not in the White Sox lineup on Tuesday. He will be replaced as the team's DH by Carlos Quentin for tonight's game.

Our View: Thome is dealing with some back soreness, and he is expected to be out until Thursday. He has 17 homers this season, so owners shouldn't be worried about him being out of the lineup too often when healthy. He should be a safe play on Thursday, but check back to make sure.
Jim Thome, 1B, Los Angeles DodgersFriday 7/24, 8:55 PM CT
Jim Thome went 1-for-3 with a solo homer off Eddie Bonine in Friday's 4-3 loss at Detroit in the bottom half of their doubleheader.

Our View: Thome crushed his fourth homer of July, and his 17th of 2009. Tonight's dinger marks the 558th of his career.
Jim Thome, 1B, Los Angeles DodgersMonday 7/20, 12:59 PM CT
Jim Thome has been named the American League Player of the Week, according to the Chicago Tribune. Thome went 5-for-10 in the three games after the break and knocked two homers and seven RBI over that time.

Our View: All of his homers and RBI came in one game, Friday night against the Orioles, but in a week in which teams only played three or four games it was good enough to get him the honor. Thome is not a top candidate for Player of the Week honors every week, but with his power potential it could happen again.
Jim Thome, 1B, Los Angeles DodgersFriday 7/17, 11:59 PM CT
Jim Thome had a monster night on Friday in the White Sox' 12-8 win over the Orioles. Thome went 2-for-4 with two home runs, two runs scored, and seven RBI in the win.

Our View: For those of you who have Thome on their team, congratulations. In this short fantasy week, this is a huge performance, and he can carry a week with a night like this. Thome can still hit for power, which keeps him relevant in all fantasy circles.
Jim Thome, 1B, Los Angeles DodgersSunday 7/12, 6:13 PM CT
Jim Thome hit a three run homer in the White Sox 13-7 loss to the Twins on Sunday. It was his only hit in three trips.

Our View: The aging slugger is still getting it done. He carries just a .255 average, but maintains his fantasy relevance with 14 homers and 50 RBI. 2009 looks to be a typical Thome season.
Jim Thome, 1B, Los Angeles DodgersSaturday 7/11, 10:25 PM CT
Jim Thome carried the Sox in tonight's 8-7 win at division rival Minnesota, as he went 2-for-4 with a double and four RBI.

Our View: Thome has a hit in five straight games, and ended a five-game skid without an RBI. He now has 47 RBI for the season.
Jim Thome, 1B, Los Angeles DodgersTuesday 6/30, 1:26 PM CT
The Arlington Daily Herald is reporting that the Cubs-White Sox game that was postponed on June 16 due to rain will be made up on September 3.

Jim Thome, 1B, Los Angeles DodgersWednesday 6/24, 4:07 PM CT

Jim Thome, 1B, Los Angeles DodgersThursday 6/11, 6:53 PM CT
Jim Thome went 2-for-3 with two RBI in Thursday's 4-3 win over the Tigers at U.S. Cellular Field. He hit a single and a two-run homer.

Our View: The slugger launched his 12th homer of the season, and No. 553 for his career. He has now homered in three of his last four games.
Jim Thome, 1B, Los Angeles DodgersWednesday 6/10, 9:48 PM CT
Jim Thome accounted for the White Sox lone run in their 2-1 loss to the Tigers on Wednesday. His solo home run was his only hit in three at bats. He struck out twice and drew a walk.

Our View: Thome has five RBI in his last three games and has accumulated 37 on the season. He also has 11 home runs and continues to deliver almost exactly what is expected of him - which unfortunately includes a .250 batting average.
Jim Thome, 1B, Los Angeles DodgersMonday 6/8, 9:43 PM CT
Jim Thome carried the Sox offensively in Monday's 6-1 win over the Tigers at U.S. Cellular Field, as he went 2-for-3 with three RBI. He hit a two-run homer and a single. That was the second game of their doubleheader.

Our View: The slugger crushed his 10th homer of the season, and No. 551 of his career. The Sox are 8-1 this season when Thome hits a homer as well.
Jim Thome, 1B, Los Angeles DodgersSunday 6/7, 11:31 AM CT
Jim Thome will ride the pine for today's home game against Cleveland, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Our View: He is being held out against opposing left-handed pitcher David Huff. Josh Fields will serve in the DH role in his place. Adjust your fantasy lineups accordingly.
Jim Thome, 1B, Los Angeles DodgersMonday 6/1, 10:21 PM CT
Jim Thome carried the Sox in Monday's 6-2 win over the Athletics at U.S. Celluar Field, as he went 2-for-4 with a three-run homer. His other hit was a single.

Our View: Thome recorded an RBI in three straight games, with six RBI over the span. His home run is No. 550 for his career.
Jim Thome, 1B, Los Angeles DodgersMonday 5/25, 11:30 PM CT
Jim Thome hit his eighth home run of the season in Monday's 17-3 win over the Angels. He went 2-for-3 with a walk, four RBI, and a run scored before being lifted for a pinch-hitter in the blowout.

Our View: Thome failed to get a hit in his last three games. He has been a much better hitter on the road than at home this season, despite U.S. Cellular field typically favoring sluggers. He is hitting just .176 in Chicago against .308 on the road.
Jim Thome, 1B, Los Angeles DodgersTuesday 5/19, 10:41 PM CT
Jim Thome was 2-for-3 with a double, a run scored, and two RBI in the White Sox' 6-2 win over the Twins.

Our View: Thome has his average up to .252 on the year, which is not bad considering his poor start. He should deliver the power numbers, but don't expect much average out of him all season.
Jim Thome, 1B, Los Angeles DodgersMonday 5/18, 2:35 PM CT
Jim Thome went 1-for-3 with a two-run homer in Monday's 3-2 loss at Toronto.

Our View: Thome's bomb tied the game at 2-2, but the Sox were unable to prevent a four-game sweep against the Blue Jays.
Jim Thome, 1B, Los Angeles DodgersWednesday 5/13, 10:01 AM CT
Jim Thome will sit out today's game against the Indians, according to the Chicago Tribune. Lefty Cliff Lee will be the opposing hurler.

Our View: He will be held out against his former team, and Wilson Betemit will replace him at DH. Thome swatted two homers in Tuesday's win.
Jim Thome, 1B, Los Angeles DodgersTuesday 5/12, 9:43 PM CT
Jim Thome blasted two home runs in three trips on Tuesday as the White Sox topped the Indians 7-4. He drove in four, drew two walks and scored three runs.

Our View: Thome now has six homers on the season, but, even after Tuesday's fine performance, is hitting just .227. He's a nice power option in AL-only leagues, but his average will drag your team down.
Jim Thome, 1B, Los Angeles DodgersTuesday 5/5, 7:44 PM CT
According to the Chicago Tribune, Jim Thome drew his 1,559th walk in the first inning on Tuesday to put him in a tie for 14th place all-time.

Our View: Thome drew the walk off of Royals' starter Kyle Davies and it put him next to the great Harmon Killebrew on the all-time list. Just another notch on the bedpost that is Thome's storied baseball career.
Jim Thome, 1B, Los Angeles DodgersThursday 4/30, 2:37 PM CT
Jim Thome has been cleared to play Friday at the Rangers, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Our View: Thome tested his sore left heel today by running the bases, and was deemed fit to play. Thome will be returning in a good hitter-friendly park, and crushed 29 homers over 121 career games against Texas.
Jim Thome, 1B, Los Angeles DodgersWednesday 4/29, 11:14 AM CT
Manager Ozzie Guillen notes that Jim Thome's heel injury is "serious," and the DH may land on the disabled list if he is unable to return by Friday, the Chicago Tribune reports.

Our View: The White Sox are off on Thursday, so Thome will have some time to find a miracle elixir. We'll let you know when we have more information, but this news doesn't sound too good.
Jim Thome, 1B, Los Angeles DodgersTuesday 4/28, 3:31 PM CT
Updating an earlier report, Jim Thome may not return to the lineup until Friday at Texas while nursing a sore heel, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Our View: Carlos Quentin will replace him as Chicago's DH in the first game of tonight's doubleheader against the Mariners. Jerry Owens replaces Quentin in left. Thome should be held out of fantasy lineups until further notice.
Jim Thome, 1B, Los Angeles DodgersTuesday 4/28, 10:11 AM CT
Jim Thome will rest for a few days while nursing a sore right heel, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

Our View: The slugger could be used as a pinch-hitter if necessary, but won't likely return to the DH role until Thursday at the earliest. He has chipped in four homers over 15 games so far this season.
Jim Thome, 1B, Los Angeles DodgersFriday 4/24, 11:09 PM CT
Jim Thome had a rough night on Friday, going 0-for-4 with three strikeouts. He is hitting .220 on the season.

Our View: Nobody from Chicago did much at the plate on Friday, but Thome really struggled wth his three strikeouts. His average isn't good, but the power is still there. He is still a decent option in all formats, but he will have some nights like this in the future, so be prepared.
Jim Thome, 1B, Los Angeles DodgersThursday 4/23, 10:30 PM CT
Jim Thome drove in Chicago's only two runs on Thursday in a 6-2 loss to the Orioles. He was 1-for-4 on the day and besides his RBI single he struck out in every other plate appearance.

Our View: Thome already has 17 strikeouts this season and looks like he's trying to replicate last year's stats. Solid home run totals, but a low average and tons of strikeouts. For the record, he has four bombs and is hitting .234.
Jim Thome, 1B, Los Angeles DodgersWednesday 4/22, 9:08 PM CT
Jim Thome homered again on Wednesday in the White Sox' 8-2 win over the Orioles. Thome was 1-for-2 with the homer and two walks.

Our View: The average isn't there right now for Thome, but he has four homers already on the young season. He looks to still be a viable power option in all leagues, but don't expect him to hit for much average.
Jim Thome, 1B, Los Angeles DodgersSunday 4/19, 5:27 PM CT
Jim Thome went 2-for-3 with a home run, a double, four runs scored, two RBI, and two walks as the White Sox beat the Rays 12-2 on Sunday.

Our View: Thome came into the game hitting just .206, but he has hit three home runs already. It doesn't appear as if he is slowing down much but his batting average figures to hover around the .250 mark throughout the season.
Jim Thome, 1B, Los Angeles DodgersSunday 4/12, 6:18 PM CT
Jim Thome hit his second home run of the season in Sunday's 6-1 win over the Twins. He finished the game 1-for-4 with a run scored, two RBI, and two strike outs.

Our View: Thome seems to still have the power to make another run at 35 home runs, but his strike outs have come at an alarming rate to start the season. He has seven whiffs against just one walk in 21 at-bats.
Jim Thome, 1B, Los Angeles DodgersTuesday 4/7, 3:44 PM CT
Jim Thome went 3-for-4 with a three-run homer in Tuesday's 4-2 win against the Royals in the season opener at U.S. Cellular Field. His other two knocks were singles.

Our View: The Sox were trailing 2-1 before Thome put them on top to stay with his homer, which was the 542nd of his career.
Jim Thome, 1B, Los Angeles DodgersThursday 3/26, 6:17 PM CT
Jim Thome was 1-for-3 with an RBI and a walk in Thursday's loss to the Diamondbacks. He drove in the White Sox's only run of the game.

Our View: Thome is having a decent spring, but will need to improve on his .245 average and 147 Ks in 2008 if he's going to command any legitimate fantasy attention. He's still a decent power option in deep leagues though.
Jim Thome, 1B, Los Angeles DodgersWednesday 3/25, 6:22 PM CT
Jim Thome was 2-for-4 Wednesday and hit his third home run of the spring.

Our View: Thome is still a power threat (34 dingers last year), but he whiffs a lot and his average has been dipping considerably the past few seasons. He's still a decent power option in AL-only leagues and is worth a late look in mixed leagues as well.
Jim Thome, 1B, Los Angeles DodgersMonday 3/16, 7:55 PM CT
MLB.com reports that Jim Thome should be back in the White Sox lineup on Wednesday. That will mark a week that he has been held out due to back pain.

Our View: Thome's sore back can be counted on to keep him out of the lineup for at least a handful of games this season. It has been an on-going issue for the past five or so seasons.
Jim Thome, 1B, Los Angeles DodgersWednesday 3/11, 7:59 PM CT
The Daily Herald reports that Jim Thome was scratched from Wednesday's game due to a bad back.

Our View: Thome is just 2-for-14 this spring. His back has hampered him his entire time in a White Sox uniform, and you can probably expect it to force him from a few starts in the regular season as well.
Jim Thome, 1B, Los Angeles DodgersMonday 3/2, 6:15 PM CT
Jim Thome slugged a three-run home run in Monday's 5-3 loss to the Mariners. It was his only hit in three at-bats.

Our View: The 38-year-old should remain a solid source of power and walks this season, but there is not much room for improvement.
Jim Thome, 1B, Los Angeles DodgersWednesday 1/21, 5:27 PM CT
Jim Thome intends to play past the 2009 season, according to MLB.com. His contract with the White Sox will end at the conclusion of next season.

Our View: Thome was still a productive power hitter for the White Sox last year, drilling 34 home runs and knocking in 90 RBI while getting in 503 at-bats to earn his $13 million vesting option for 2009. He should be worth drafting in fantasy leagues for 2009, but not until the later rounds.
Jim Thome, 1B, Los Angeles DodgersWednesday 12/3, 11:20 AM CT
The Chicago White Sox are willing to listen to offers on DH Jim Thome and first baseman Paul Konerko, according to Yahoo! Sports.

Our View: Chicago moved Javier Vazquez and is apparently doing everything in their power to get younger and eliminate payroll.
Jim Thome, 1B, Los Angeles DodgersThursday 10/2, 3:13 PM CT
In one of the most tiring traditions in sports, Chicago Mayor Richard Daley bet St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Baker, Tampa Mayor Pam Iorio and Clearwater Mayor Frank Hibbard on who would win the playoff series between the White Sox and Rays, according to the Tampa Tribune. Daley bet polish sausages, and assorted food and drink items from the Chicago area, such as peanuts from Fisher Nuts. The three Florida mayors also bet local food items such as oranges, along with locally made cigars. The two cities also pledged to donate sporting goods (Chicago) and beach wear (St. Petersburg) to 150 children in the Boys and Girls Club.

Our View: We wonder if the winning mayors will be taxed on these items, as they could certainly be construed as profit, right?
Jim Thome, 1B, Los Angeles DodgersTuesday 9/30, 9:40 PM CT
Jim Thome hit a home run, his 34th of the year, the only run in the White Sox 1-0 victory over the Twins in the 163rd game of the season.

Our View: Thome ends the year with 34 home runs and 90 RBI, the 12th time in 13 seasons that he has hit at least 30 home runs with 85 or more RBI. The power is still there, even if the average is a completely downer at this point (.245).
Jim Thome, 1B, Los Angeles DodgersSaturday 9/6, 10:08 PM CT
Jim Thome's only hit in six at bats on Saturday was a timely one. In the 15th inning, he took Angels' reliever Justin Speier deep for a walk-off home run.

Our View: The blast helped put another game of distance between the White Sox and the Twins and was Thome's 30th of the season.
Jim Thome, 1B, Los Angeles DodgersSunday 8/31, 1:46 PM CT
When White Sox slugger Jim Thome hit a home run in the first inning of Sunday's game, it was the 536th of his career, which tied him with Mickey Mantle for 14th on the all-time list, according to WhiteSox.com.

Our View: Thome has not done a whole lot with his batting average, but fantasy owners continue to get home runs and RBI from him.
Jim Thome, 1B, Los Angeles DodgersMonday 8/25, 9:49 PM CT
Jim Thome's sixth inning solo home run broke a 3-3 tie with the Indians, and ended up being the difference in the game, as Chicago won 4-3.

Our View: The home run was the 28th of the year for Thome, who has had a solid year over all, with an OPS of .899 coming into Monday's game. He now has four home runs in his last nine games.
Jim Thome, 1B, Los Angeles DodgersSunday 8/24, 2:50 PM CT
White Sox slugger Jim Thome hit his 534th home run against the Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday, tying Jimmie Foxx for 15th place on baseball's home run list, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: Thome hit a two-run shot in the fourth inning off Andy Sonnanstine to give the White Sox a 4-3 lead, moments after Carlos Quentin's two-run homer. It was the 27th home run for Thome, who entered the game in a 5-for-34 slump.
Jim Thome, 1B, Los Angeles DodgersWednesday 8/20, 8:03 PM CT
White Sox slugger Jim Thome was scratched from Wednesday's lineup against Seattle as a precautionary measure, according to ChicagoSports.com.

Our View: Thome experienced slight soreness in his right leg but is available to pinch-hit.
Jim Thome, 1B, Los Angeles DodgersWednesday 8/20, 2:32 PM CT
Jim Thome was scratched from Wednesday's lineup, according to the Chicago Tribune. It is unknown why he was pulled.

Our View: He collected his 26th homer of the season Tuesday. We will keep you when his status is updated.
Jim Thome, 1B, Los Angeles DodgersTuesday 8/19, 10:03 PM CT
Jim Thome went 2-for-3 with a double, homer, and two runs in Tuesday's win over the Mariners. The DH owns six homers, 12 RBI, and 15 runs over 15 games in August, although he has hit just .224 this month.

Our View: Thome has responded well after his awful, awful May, and fantasy owners who can put up with his low average have to love the power.
Jim Thome, 1B, Los Angeles DodgersThursday 8/14, 5:39 PM CT
The Chicago White Sox tied a major-league record by hitting a home run in four consecutive at-bats, according to the AP. The event happened in the sixth inning, with Jim Thome, Paul Konerko, Alexei Ramirez and Juan Uribe doing the deed off of Royals pitchers Joel Peralta and Robinson Tejada.

Our View: This all happened with two outs in the inning, and it was the first time it occurred since April of last season when Boston accomplished the feat.
Jim Thome, 1B, Los Angeles DodgersWednesday 8/6, 10:02 PM CT
Jim Thome provided most the offense for the White Sox Wednesday night, belting a three-run homer and scoring two runs in a 5-1 win over the Tigers. The dinger was Thome's 22nd of the year.

Our View: Thome got off to a slow start this year but has been very good since June.
Jim Thome, 1B, Los Angeles DodgersSaturday 7/12, 10:21 PM CT
Chicago found more than a few bats to do work against the Rangers in the White Sox's 9-7 win over the Rangers this evening, but it was designated hitter Jim Thome doing the most impressive damage on the night. Thome went 2-for-4 with one walk, his 18th double and 18th homer on the season, recording a team-high four RBIs with one run scored.

Our View: Oufielder Carlos Quentin posted two RBIs of his own, as did first baseman Paul Konerko, but Thome put the wood to good use and topped 'em all, as he has all through July. He's hitting .342 with two homers and seven RBIs on the month thus far.
Jim Thome, 1B, Los Angeles DodgersFriday 7/4, 9:30 PM CT
Jim Thome went 2-for-4 and notched Chicago's lone RBI in Friday's tough 7-1 loss to Oakland at US Cellular Field. His hit went for a double, which was also the club's only extra base hit of the game.

Our View: That was his 44th RBI of the season, with six coming over his last six games.
Jim Thome, 1B, Los Angeles DodgersSunday 6/29, 10:18 PM CT
Jim Thome went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer on Sunday night. He is up to 15 long balls and 40 RBI on the year, and his 522 career homers place him ahead of Ted Williams and Willie McCovey.

Our View: After two disastrous months, Thome is hitting .281 with five homers, 12 RBI, and 17 runs in June. Those aren't outstanding digits, but they represent a major step forward for this veteran.
Jim Thome, 1B, Los Angeles DodgersWednesday 6/18, 8:36 PM CT
The White Sox report that designated hitter Jim Thome could be spending time at first base, according to MLB.com.

Our View: With Paul Konerko residing on the 15-day disables list, the team needs to find a viable answer to fill that role. Thome is nursing a stiff back but manager Ozzie Guillen told reporters he is giving this move serious consideration.
Jim Thome, 1B, Los Angeles DodgersTuesday 6/17, 11:33 PM CT
While the White Sox are enjoying the 16-5 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates, the seamheads of the world are applauding designated hitter Jim Thome . Hitting his 14th home run of the season also puts Thome at 521 career homers, moving the veteran swinger into a tie with Willie McCovey and Ted Williams at 16th on the all-time home run list.

Our View: You tend to forget Thome has been around for so long, and now he sits among the great names of the game.
Jim Thome, 1B, Los Angeles DodgersSaturday 6/14, 8:09 PM CT
The White Sox are reporting designated hitter Jim Thome is likely to return on Sunday, according to MLB.com.

Our View: He was out of the lineup once again on Saturday due to back pain and stiffness, but the team had him on the ready for pinch-hitting duty if needed. The Sox believe he will be back in the lineup tomorrow barring setback.
Jim Thome, 1B, Los Angeles DodgersTuesday 6/10, 8:50 PM CT
Jim Thome went 3-for-4 with a homer, one RBI, and two runs on Tuesday. It was, sadly, just his second game of the year with more than two hits. However, Thome does now have six extra-base knocks in nine games this June.

Our View: Thome is showing a few signs of coming around, but we really need to see Jim go on about a two-week tear before we will buy into a turnaround.
Jim Thome, 1B, Los Angeles DodgersThursday 6/5, 10:16 PM CT
Jim Thome went deep for the 12th time this year knocking in his 31st RBI of the year for the Sox.

Our View: Thome is still hitting only .212 despite two homers in the past two games, and both he and Paul Konerko still have yet to find their swings.
Jim Thome, 1B, Los Angeles DodgersSunday 6/1, 3:53 PM CT
Jim Thome went 2-for-5 with a pair of doubles on Sunday. The effort doesn't seem remarkable until you realize that the DH hasn't hit two doubles in a game since August 19, 2006.

Our View: It only seems like Thome hasn't had a two-hit game of any kind since 2006. The veteran is clinging to his job but maybe this rare effort will spur Thome to better days.
Jim Thome, 1B, Los Angeles DodgersFriday 5/16, 9:27 AM CT
Manager Ozzie Guillen said earlier this week that Jim Thome would start one of the interleague games this weekend, but now he's backtracking. ''Right now, I'm not going to play him,'' Guillen said in the Chicago Sun-Times. ''Last year we did, and then he lost a couple of games because he was sore. He lost a couple of games because playing in the field was tough. I talked to him, and hopefully we'll get him one at-bat here and there. Maybe if things go a certain way, I will change my mind, but right now I don't want to use him.''

Our View: Thome has been more productive this year than Paul Konerko, but he's obviously a liability in the field.
Jim Thome, 1B, Los Angeles DodgersTuesday 5/13, 3:49 PM CT
Jim Thome is expected to get some work at first base during batting practice this week, but it could be very limited, according to CBSsports.com. With interleague play coming up against the Giants this weekend, manager Ozzie Guillen wants Thome to play at least one game, but not put pressure on his chronic back problems in getting ready for that one game. Guillen said, "Everybody thinks first base is easy. First base is not an easy position because you have to move around every time the pitcher throws the ball. If there's a groundball, you have to move. I don't expect him to be a Gold Glover there for one day, just catch and throw. I told him to make sure when he works out, don't overdo it."

Our View: Jim Thome is expected to make one start at first base in the inter-league series against the Giants this weekend, and isn't worth keeping in your lineups for that one game. San Francisco is a tough place to hit homers as well, which is where Thome holds most of his fantasy value (he is only hitting .214).
Jim Thome, 1B, Los Angeles DodgersSunday 5/11, 9:48 AM CT
Jim Thome sat out on Saturday, but he will start the next five games before sitting in the May 16-18 series in San Francisco, the Chicago Tribune reports.

Our View: Rumors of Thome's demise are swirling, but we're not quite ready to give up on the burly DH. This might be a good week to bench him in mixed leagues, though.
Jim Thome, 1B, Los Angeles DodgersSunday 4/20, 3:47 PM CT
Jim Thome recorded career home run number 512 in Sunday's 6-0 win over Tampa Bay. He went 4-for-5 overall, with three RBI. His home run tied Ernie Banks and Eddie Matthews for 19th all-time.

Our View: That was his fifth home run of the season, and he now has 16 RBI over 17 games.
Jim Thome, 1B, Los Angeles DodgersFriday 4/18, 10:52 PM CT
Jim Thome hit the 511 HR of his career on Friday night as he plated three RBI in the White Sox win over the Rays.

Our View: Thome has two HR and six RBI in his last three games as he seems to have found his home run stroke. Another season of 30-HR seems likely for the ageless slugger.
Jim Thome, 1B, Los Angeles DodgersWednesday 4/16, 8:46 PM CT
Jim Thome returned from a 1-game suspension to hit his first home run in 43 AB for the White Sox on Wednesday. Thome also hit a double and three RBI on the night.

Our View: Thome is only hitting .184 through 49 AB, but he still has 10 RBI in 13 games as he has been able to produce runs even with all the K (15).
Jim Thome, 1B, Los Angeles DodgersWednesday 4/16, 1:38 PM CT
Jim Thome could be moving down Chicago's batting order, according to The Chicago Tribune. Manager Ozzie Guillen noted that he may move Thome down the batting order to help jump-start him from a slow start, as he is only hitting 7-for-45 so far. Also of note, Thome served his one-game suspension on Thursday.

Our View: Thome could hit homers from any spot in the lineup, and his fantasy value won't drop that much, if at all.
Jim Thome, 1B, Los Angeles DodgersTuesday 4/15, 11:29 AM CT
Jim Thome has been suspended for one game Tuesday and fined an undisclosed sum by the MLB for inappropriate actions during a game against Detroit last week, according to the AP. He was ejected for arguing a call after he struck out.

Our View: Thome has two homers, but is only hitting 7-for-45, and could actually benefit from a day off.
Jim Thome, 1B, Los Angeles DodgersSaturday 4/12, 5:36 PM CT
Jim Thome is hitting only .158 on the year but that doesn't mean anyone in Chicago is panicking, this according to MLB.com. "I'm starting to feel better, so I just have to grind it out and keep battling," Thome said. "One thing I've learned is never get too high or too low during good and bad times.

Our View: Of note is the fact that Thome has only three walks in 10 games, so he has not only lost his production, he is still in the process of working into any kid of groove at the plate.
Jim Thome, 1B, Los Angeles DodgersThursday 4/3, 1:56 PM CT
Jim Thome had a tough day at the plate against Cleveland on Thursday, as he went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts. He is still off to a strong start as he registered two homers and four RBI over the first two games of the series.
Jim Thome, 1B, Los Angeles DodgersMonday 3/31, 6:23 PM CT

Jim Thome, 1B, Los Angeles DodgersWednesday 3/19, 7:00 PM CT
Jim Thome hit two home runs against the Rockies, while generating six RBI. He now has four four homers and 15 RBI for the spring, and should remain of the top DH's in the league.
Jim Thome, 1B, Los Angeles DodgersSaturday 3/15, 7:26 PM CT
Jim Thome blasted his second home run of the spring in a winning effort against the Cubs on Saturday. He now has nine RBI (two today), but is only batting .194 (7-for-36) with nine strikeouts.
Jim Thome, 1B, Los Angeles DodgersWednesday 2/20, 8:15 AM CT
Jim Thome needs 564 plate appearances this coming season in order for his 2009 contract option to vest, or he'll receive a $3 million buyout, according to the Chicago Tribune. Rib cage and back problems limited Thome to 536 appearances last season. Thome said he wants to remain with the White Sox, regardless of his contract status, and the club could re-sign him for 2009, even if he fails to kick the option in.

Jim Thome, 1B, Los Angeles DodgersFriday 8/24, 9:20 PM CT
Jim Thome was a late scratch on Friday with a stiff back. He was replaced by Darin Erstad.

Our View: This isn't a serious injury, so Thome should be back in a day or so.
Jim Thome, 1B, Los Angeles DodgersThursday 8/23, 4:47 AM CT
Ozzie Guillen said he is thinking about putting Jim Thome in the leadoff spot late in the season if the slugger needs more at-bats to reach 500 home runs, the AP reports. Thome, who hit his 493rd homer on Tuesday, is trying to become the 27th player to reach the mark. "I've got to go through (general manager) Kenny (Williams), but don't be surprised if late in the season you see Jim Thome leading off to make sure he gets one more at-bat than everybody else," Guillen said. "If he needs a couple of home runs at the end of the season, I'll give him one more at-bat than anybody else. Why not?"

Jim Thome will take a few swings this week to determine whether he'll be able to head out for a rehab assignment, according to the Daily Southtown. "Make sure he's got the rhythm and he's got the tempo back," manager Ozzie Guillen said. "Because if we pull him back off the (15-day disabled list) and the second swing he got hurt, we have another 15 days. If it happens in the minor leagues, we can continue to go day-by-day. That's my opinion, and people may have different ideas than I have. We're all together here, and most of the time me and (general manager Ken Williams) are on the same page." The results that I have from [trainer Herm Schneider] is it's not going to be bad. The best thing for him is just to concentrate and work that part (of the body) and be ready when he comes up."

Ross Gload played first base and Paul Konerko was in the DH spot for the Sox Thursday. "We don't think we will have to put him on the disabled list. His injury is in the lower part of the hamstring, which the trainers tell me is not as bad as it would be if it's higher," manager Ozzie Guillen said. "We can go a few days without him. (Ross) Gload will play more and in a few days we will have a few more players from call-ups that should help." Thome isn't sure how long he'll be out. "I'm walking a little better today, but I don't feel any different. I just have to get more treatment every day. It could be day-to-day or it could be longer. I just don't know."
