Jon Garland, P, Los Angeles DodgersThursday 11/5, 11:32 AM CT
The Los Angeles Dodgers have declined the 2010 option on starting pitcher Jon Garland, according to the Twitter page of beat writer Dylan Hernandez.

Our View: The Dodgers acquired Garland from the D-Backs before the deadline, but he was just average at best in his time in LA. He will find a home next season, and he figures to remain an average starting pitcher and borderline fantasy player next season.
Jon Garland, P, Los Angeles DodgersThursday 10/1, 12:06 AM CT
Jon Garland got roughed up on Wednesday night, allowing five runs in just 3.1 innings, as the Dodgers lost 5-0 in San Diego.

Our View: Garland is having a typical Garland-type season in 2009, going 11-13 with a 4.01 ERA and 1.40 WHIP in 204 innings over 32 starts.
Jon Garland, P, Los Angeles DodgersFriday 9/25, 9:20 PM CT
Jon Garland gave up three runs (none earned) on six hits over six innings in Friday's 3-1 loss at Pittsburgh. He had one walk with six strikeouts.

Our View: Garland had a decent outing, but was handed a loss due to poor run support from his teammates. He now has a losing record at 11-12, after going 5-0 over his previous six starts.
Jon Garland, P, Los Angeles DodgersSaturday 9/19, 7:33 PM CT
Jon Garland had a brilliant outing for the Dodgers on Saturday. He allowed just one unearned run on seven hits over eight innings while fanning three and not allowing a walk. He improved to 11-11 as LA crushed the Giants 12-1.

Our View: Garland is now 3-0 with the Dodgers and has allowed just seven earned runs over 27 innings. Looks like LA found someone to plug the hole in their troublesome rotation, and switching leagues for Garland was the right move.
Jon Garland, P, Los Angeles DodgersThursday 9/10, 12:09 AM CT
Jon Garland allowed just three runs in six innings against his former club Arizona on Wednesday night, but took a no-decision as they rallied for a late 4-3 win.

Our View: Garland is now 1-0 with a 2.08 ERA since joining L.A.'s rotation. He's a solid stretch play in NL-only leagues.
Jon Garland, P, Los Angeles DodgersFriday 9/4, 12:14 AM CT
Jon Garland was impressive in his first start as a Dodger on Thursday as he defeated his old team 4-2. Garland went seven innings and allowed two runs on five hits while walking one and striking out six in the game.

Our View: The Dodgers have to be pleased with what they saw from Garland tonight. He should supply some consistency at the back end of the rotation, and now that he plays for a good team his fantasy value should increase.
Jon Garland, P, Los Angeles DodgersTuesday 9/1, 10:30 AM CT
MLB.com is reporting that the Dodgers have traded for pitcher Jon Garland. The Diamondbacks will get a player to be named later in return, and that player will likely be Winston Abreu.

Our View: Garland is expected to join the rotation and take the place of Charlie Haeger, and he could pitch Thursday against his former team. Manager Joe Torre said that Garland will get the ball every five days, so don't worry about a move to the bullpen at this point.
Jon Garland, P, Los Angeles DodgersMonday 8/31, 8:45 PM CT
Two teams are reportedly interested in acquiring Jon Garland from the Diamondbacks, according to the Arizona Republic.

Our View: A trade would probably require Arizona to include cash to offset what remains on Garland's contract, namely the buyout for his 2010 option, which will be either $2.5MM or $1MM depending on which side declines. There is speculation that the two interested teams are the Yankees and Rockies.
Jon Garland, P, Los Angeles DodgersSaturday 8/29, 11:49 PM CT
Jon Garland pitched seven shutout innings against the Astros on Saturday night, as the Diamondbacks rolled to a 9-0 win at home.

Our View: Garland allowed no runs in a start for the first time since June 19. He is now 8-11 with a 4.29 ERA on the season.
Jon Garland, P, Los Angeles DodgersSunday 8/23, 6:37 PM CT
Jon Garland gave up four earned runs on 10 hits over six innings in Sunday's 7-5 win at Houston. He had one walk and four strikeouts, and surrendered two homers.

Our View: Garland did not have a solid performance, but his teammates provided enough offensive firepower for him to collect his seventh win of 2009. He is 2-1 with a 4.73 ERA over five starts this month.
Jon Garland, P, Los Angeles DodgersThursday 8/20, 8:10 AM CT
According to FOXSports.com, Arizona starter Jon Garland has cleared waivers.

Our View: Graland is now officially up for grabs and the D-Backs can trade him to any team. He is one of the most attractive starters available right now and while he has a 4.42 ERA on the season, he has a 3.60 mark in six starts since the All Star break. There will be some suitors calling, but Garland is owed a minimum of $4 million through next season, so he comes at a price. The Pirates need not apply.
Jon Garland, P, Los Angeles DodgersTuesday 8/18, 10:22 PM CT
Jon Garland got ripped up by the Phillies on Tuesday. He allowed five runs on 11 hits and a pair of walks over just 5.1 innings and took the loss as Arizona fell 5-1.

Our View: Garland is now 6-11 on the season and has been hot and cold lately. After each quality start in August he has laid an egg his next time out.
Jon Garland, P, Los Angeles DodgersWednesday 8/12, 6:41 PM CT
Jon Garland struck out seven and allowed just two runs in six efficient innings on Wednesday, but took a no-decision as Arizona lost 6-4 to the Mets.

Our View: Garland stuck to his pattern of having a good start following a bad start on Wednesday. Like clockwork, you can almost certainly expect him to be bad his next time out.
Jon Garland, P, Los Angeles DodgersFriday 8/7, 9:30 PM CT
Jon Garland pitched six rocky innings on Friday, allowing five runs, as the Diamondbacks blew a five-run lead to lose 7-6 in Washington D.C.

Our View: Typical Garland. His bad start came after he allowed just two runs in a complete game his last time out. Unless you absolutely have to own him, don't.
Jon Garland, P, Los Angeles DodgersSunday 8/2, 5:49 PM CT
The Diamondback have to be happy they didn't trade Jon Garland at the deadline. The big right-hander pitched a complete game victory on Sunday. He held the Mets to just two runs on seven hits in the 5-2 win.

Our View: Garland struck out two and did not walk a man in Sunday's gem. He's been fantastic in July, notching a quality start in every appearance for the month. He has allowed three runs or less in his last seven starts.
Jon Garland, P, Los Angeles DodgersThursday 7/30, 4:36 PM CT
The Rangers have reportedly inquired about Diamondbacks' hurler Jon Garland, according to the Dallas Morning News.

Our View: Garland is struggling in Arizona, but could benefit from a return to the AL with Texas, and a better supporting cast.
Jon Garland, P, Los Angeles DodgersMonday 7/27, 11:55 PM CT
Jon Garland gave up six runs (three earned) on five hits over six innings in Monday's 6-2 loss to the Phillies at Chase Field. He had two walks and two strikeouts.

Our View: Garland suffered his 10th loss of the season, and moving to the NL with Arizona has proven to be a disaster for him. He has not garnered much interest with the trade deadline looming.
Jon Garland, P, Los Angeles DodgersThursday 7/23, 7:58 PM CT
Jon Garland called out his teammates following Wednesday's sloppy loss to Colorado, according to the East Valley Tribune. Garland said, "To me, we are going out there and playing like a last-place team. I do not see any fight in them. I do not see anyone that wants it."

Our View: Garland may have dissed his teammates in a bid to be traded by Arizona. He holds a 4.41 ERA with only five wins over 20 starts with the struggling Diamondbacks, but his fantasy stock could improve if he is potentially dealt to a contender prior to the July 31 deadline.
Jon Garland, P, Los Angeles DodgersWednesday 7/22, 5:12 PM CT
Jon Garland pitched well again on Wednesday, but took a no-decision, as the Rockies edged the Diamondbacks 4-3 in Denver.

Our View: Garland has really settled down after a rocky start to the season, and has allowed just ten runs in five starts this month. With the D-Backs being so challenged offensively, though, he has just one win over that span.
Jon Garland, P, Los Angeles DodgersSaturday 7/18, 12:21 AM CT
Jon Garland was decent on Friday, but he wasn't good enough to get a win as the Diamondbacks fell to the Cardinals by a score of 6-1. Garland went six innings and allowed two runs on seven hits while walking one and striking out six.

Our View: Other than giving up two solo shots to Pujols, Garland was pretty good. His offense couldn't get anything going, and his bullpen couldn't keep he team close. Overall, Garland has been better as of late, and he could be useful in NL-only leagues.
Jon Garland, P, Los Angeles DodgersSaturday 7/11, 11:25 PM CT
Jon Garland was in control from the hill in Saturday's 5-1 win over the Marlins at Chase Field, as he only allowed one earned run on seven hits over eight innings. He issued one walk and had five strikeouts.

Our View: Garland improves to 5-8, and ended a nine-game drought without earning a win. He has been a disappointment with Arizona this season, but is pitching better right now, as he allowed one earned run in two of three starts in July.
Jon Garland, P, Los Angeles DodgersWednesday 7/1, 9:28 PM CT
Jon Garland was solid on Wednesday, allowing just one earned run in six innings, but the Diamondbacks and their anemic offense got shutout 1-0 by the Reds.

Our View: Garland atoned for a bad start last time out, but remains too inconsistent to be worth a permanent roster spot in any format.
Jon Garland, P, Los Angeles DodgersFriday 6/26, 1:21 AM CT
Jon Garland was rocked for six runs (four earned) on eight hits over 6.1 innings in Thursday's 9-8 loss to the Rangers at Chase Field. He had three walks and no strikeouts.

Our View: He takes a no-decision, and has gone seven straight starts without a win. He is 4-7 with a 5.04 ERA, and has been a disappointment for the struggling Diamondbacks.
Jon Garland, P, Los Angeles DodgersSaturday 6/20, 12:09 AM CT
Jon Garland was in control from the mound in Friday's 4-3 loss at Seattle, as he only allowed seven hits over seven scoreless innings. He issued one walk with three strikeouts.

Our View: Arizona was leading 3-0 when Garland exited, but Seattle rallied to score four runs in the eighth, forcing Garland to take a no-decision. He did not earn a win, but fantasy owners should still be very pleased that Garland snapped a five-game losing streak.
Jon Garland, P, Los Angeles DodgersSaturday 6/13, 10:31 PM CT
Jon Garland gave up three earned runs on six hits over seven innings in Saturday's 6-4 loss to the Astros at Chase Field. He had one walk and two strikeouts.

Our View: Garland has suffered his fifth straight loss, and is proving to be a poor offseason acquisition for the Diamondbacks. He should only be employed in deeper leagues for his next outing.
Jon Garland, P, Los Angeles DodgersMonday 6/8, 11:59 PM CT
Jon Garland struggled in Monday's 6-3 loss at San Diego, as he gave up six earned runs on seven hits over 6.2 innings. He had five walks and one strikeout.

Our View: Garland could not benefit from playing at pitcher-friendly Petco Park, and he has now lost four straight starts. He is worth holding out of fantasy lineups until he gets on track.
Jon Garland, P, Los Angeles DodgersThursday 6/4, 12:17 AM CT
Jon Garland was a hard luck loser in Los Angeles on Wednesday night. The starter allowed only one run on four hits and three walks in six innings of work, but he was charged with his fifth loss of the season. He struck out six in the effort.

Our View: Garland was coming off a murderous home outing against the Braves, so it was good to see him throw well tonight. He continues to be a hard pitcher to predict. In five of his last ten starts, he has allowed only five runs. In his other five, he has surrendered 29.
Jon Garland, P, Los Angeles DodgersSaturday 5/30, 12:07 AM CT
Jon Garland got destroyed by the Braves on Friday. He allowed nine runs (eight earned) on nine hits and three walks over just 2.2 innings. Arizona lost 10-6 and Garland fell to 4-4.

Our View: This was obviously Garland's worst start of the season and he saw his ERA jump from 4.70 to 5.75 as a result of it. He has four wins this year, but should be avoided by fantasy owners in mixed leagues.
Jon Garland, P, Los Angeles DodgersSunday 5/24, 7:36 PM CT
Jon Garland had a quality start on Sunday, but took the loss as the Diamondbacks fell to the A's 6-2. He allowed three runs on seven hits and four walks over six innings and fell to 4-3 on the year.

Our View: Garland is showing signs of life, and has now put together three consecutive quality starts after giving up seven runs in 3.2 innings on May 11th. He won't get you many strikeouts, but he can help in wins and ERA if he keeps up his current trend.
Jon Garland, P, Los Angeles DodgersTuesday 5/19, 10:17 PM CT
Jon Garland held the Marlins to just two runs (one earned) on seven hits and a walk over six innings for his fourth win on Tuesday night.

Our View: After Tuesday's strong performance Garland's ERA dropped to 4.72, but he still can't be considered a solid fantasy hurler. He has four wins, but his other categories aren't impressive enough to employ outside of NL-only leagues.
Jon Garland, P, Los Angeles DodgersTuesday 5/19, 9:09 AM CT
The Diamondbacks altered their rotation due to Sunday's rainout, and Jon Garland is now slated to take the hill tonight at Florida, according to the Arizona Republic. Garland was initially scheduled for Sunday.

Our View: Garland was rocked for seven runs in his last outing against Cincinnati, but could bounce back with a better performance tonight as he holds a 3.29 ERA over two career starts against the Marlins.
Jon Garland, P, Los Angeles DodgersMonday 5/11, 11:49 PM CT
Jon Garland was awful on Monday, giving up seven runs off 10 hits and one walk without any strikeouts in 3.2 innings against the Reds.

Our View: Garland had logged four previous decent outings, possibly teasing owners into having him active in their lineups with two starts on the week. Unfortunately, he can get hit hard when he's not on, and he was far from "on" on Monday.
Jon Garland, P, Los Angeles DodgersWednesday 5/6, 11:54 PM CT
Jon Garland threw seven shutout innings as the Diamondbacks defeated the Padres 3-1 on Wednesday. He allowed three hits and three walks, while striking out two batters.

Our View: Garland has allowed two runs or less in three of his last four starts, all of which came against NL West opponents. Garland looks to be figuring things out and has just one poor start in six on his 2009 resume.
Jon Garland, P, Los Angeles DodgersSaturday 5/2, 12:56 AM CT
Jon Garland did not factor into the decision on Friday as Arizona beat Milwaukee 5-2. Garland went 6.1 innings and allowed two runs on seven hits while striking out five.

Our View: Garland has picked it up as of late after a miserable start. He may be worth a shot in NL-only leagues, but he still has a long way to go before he is worthy of being on a mixed league team.
Jon Garland, P, Los Angeles DodgersTuesday 4/21, 12:02 AM CT
Jon Garland picked up his first win as a Diamondback on Monday, giving up two runs off six hits and two walks with five strikeouts in 6.2 innings against Colorado.

Our View: Garland is still a decent back-of-the-rotation pitcher in the majors but needs to prove a lot more after a rough first two outings before garnering any attention from fantasy owners.
Jon Garland, P, Los Angeles DodgersWednesday 4/15, 6:25 PM CT
Jon Garland was victimized by a barrage of Cardinal hits on Wednesday and was handed his first loss of the season. He allowed seven runs on seven hits and five walks before being pulled after just 3.2 innings.

Our View: Garland is no longer the pitcher who produced back-to-back 18 win seasons for the White Sox in 2005-06. He's been rapidly declining the past couple seasons and we don't expect this year to be any different.
Jon Garland, P, Los Angeles DodgersSaturday 4/4, 6:51 PM CT
Jon Garland had one of his better outings of the spring on Saturday in Arizona's 2-o loss to the White Sox. Still, it was not very strong as he scattered four hits and four walks in four innings while allowing just one run.

Our View: Garland's value has been trending down for the past few seasons, and he should probably go undrafted except for in deep leagues. He had a 4.90 ERA and 1.51 ERA last season with the Angels.
Jon Garland, P, Los Angeles DodgersWednesday 4/1, 9:16 AM CT
Jon Garland threw five innings in a minor league game on Monday while working on his cut fastball and curve, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Garland has allowed 15 runs - 12 earned - over 17.1 innings this spring. He has also walked eight hitters against just seven strikeouts, while surrendering 21 hits. Consider him a poor option to include in your fantasy rotation.
Jon Garland, P, Los Angeles DodgersWednesday 3/25, 11:28 PM CT
Jon Garland was roughed up a bit on Wednesday, allowing eight hits and four runs over five innings of work. He gave up a home run, walked two, and struck out four in the game.

Our View: Garland has been up and down this spring and a big thing you need to look out for is his terrible strikeout rate. He is good for just over four strikeouts per game which is a bad sign for fantasy owners. Even with the double-digit wins last year he is a dangerous option.
Jon Garland, P, Los Angeles DodgersFriday 3/20, 8:09 PM CT
Jon Garland lost his third start of the spring Friday, allowing four runs on three hits in four innings against the Angels. Only one of the runs was earned, however, as the D'Backs committed three errors behind Garland.

Our View: After two suspect starts to start exhibition play, Garland has rallied to turn in consecutive solid outings, although today's numbers would suggest otherwise.
Jon Garland, P, Los Angeles DodgersSaturday 3/14, 7:36 PM CT
Jon Garland had his best outing of the spring on Saturday in Arizona's 11-3 win over the Royals. He threw four shutout innings, while allowing three hits, a walk, and posting two strike outs.

Our View: Garland struggled his first two times out, but he looked good today. He is a nice mid-rotation guy, but aside from eating innings, his numbers just are not that good.
Jon Garland, P, Los Angeles DodgersWednesday 1/28, 10:49 AM CT
Jon Garland has agreed to terms on a one-year deal with the Diamondbacks, according to the Arizona Republic. The deal includes an option for 2010. Financial terms are not known, but Garland's guaranteed money is believed to be in the $6 million to $8 million range.

Our View: Garland will likely be the No. 3 starter in the rotation behind Brandon Webb and Dan Haren, and should challenge 200 innings, hence helping their bullpen.
Jon Garland, P, Los Angeles DodgersTuesday 1/27, 5:21 PM CT
The Arizona Republic reports the Diamondbacks have reopened contract negotiations with free agent Jon Garland two weeks after the right-hander turned down the teams's two-year offer believed to have been between $13-14 million.

Our View: There's speculation the talks between Garland and Arizona have resumed because the free-agent market is starting to dry up and the former Angels hurler realizes the interest in him is quickly vanishing as well.
Jon Garland, P, Los Angeles DodgersFriday 1/23, 9:03 PM CT
MLB.com reports that free-agent pitcher Jon Garland's agent, Craig Landis, said his client could have a new team within the next week or two.

Our View: The front-runner at his point appears to be the Dodgers. Garland is a native Californian and grew up idolizing the team. Landis said Garland would be a great fit for Los Angeles and the National League, where he would be playing for the first time in his career.
Jon Garland, P, Los Angeles DodgersFriday 1/23, 1:04 PM CT
The Dodgers have raised interest in Jon Garland, according to Jayson Stark of ESPN.

Our View: They also intensified talks to Braden Looper and are reportedly close to signing Randy Wolf. The club would like to reel in one of them over the next few days.
Jon Garland, P, Los Angeles DodgersThursday 1/22, 5:51 PM CT
The Dodgers are talking with Jon Garland's representatives, according to FOX Sports.

Our View: Garland recently turned down an offer from the Diamondbacks. He was 14-8 over 32 starts for the Angels last season and he remains a solid innings-eater.
Jon Garland, P, Los Angeles DodgersSaturday 1/17, 9:32 AM CT
Jon Garland is on the Mets' radar, according to the NY Daily News.

Our View: They are keeping Garland an option in case they don't ink Oliver Perez or Randy Wolf. Garland is a solid innings-eater and would be a favorable addition to the back of the Mets' rotation. Garland won 18 games with the White Sox during their magical 2005 season which ended with a World Series title.
Jon Garland, P, Los Angeles DodgersThursday 1/15, 3:38 PM CT
Jon Garland has rejected the Diamondbacks' offer, according to the Arizona Republic. The details of the contract offer were undisclosed.

Our View: The innings-eater would have strengthened an already solid Arizona rotation that features Brandon Webb, Dan Haren and Doug Davis. Pedro Martinez, Ben Sheets, and Jason Jennings are also on their radar, and Braden Looper is also available, who can handle a lot of innings like Garland.
Jon Garland, P, Los Angeles DodgersSaturday 1/10, 7:20 AM CT
The Dodgers have narrowed down their starting pitcher targets to Randy Wolf, Jon Garland, and Braden Looper, the Los Angeles Daily News believes.

Our View: Those are three veteran arms who would have decent, lower-end value if they landed in pitcher-friendly Dodgers Stadium. Chad Billingsley, Hiroki Kuroda, and Clayton Kershaw are currently the only sure things in the Dodgers rotation.
Jon Garland, P, Los Angeles DodgersWednesday 1/7, 9:09 AM CT
Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports indicates that the Diamondbacks made an offer to hurler Jon Garland. It was not disclosed what the club offered him.

Our View: The Diamondbacks are no longer pursuing Garland, and are not necessarily in the market for a starting pitcher. They also made an offer to Brad Penny prior to signing with Boston.
Jon Garland, P, Los Angeles DodgersMonday 12/8, 5:19 PM CT
Three teams, at least, are interested in right-handed starter Jon Garland, reports the L.A. Times.

Our View: It is known that the Orioles are interested, and it's been rumored that the Cardinals are as well. Though he won 14 games last year, don't let that fool you. He had an ERA of 4.90 and WHIP of 1.51.
Jon Garland, P, Los Angeles DodgersMonday 12/8, 2:48 PM CT
Jerry Crasnick of ESPN believes Jon Garland would be a good fit for the Cardinals' rotation.

Our View: Pitching coach Dave Duncan knows how to bring the best out of pitchers, which would help Garland, who will be trying to bounce back from a disappointing 2008 campaign with the Angels. Garland could also be a favorable alternative for the Dodgers and Brewers if they miss out on their top targets.
Jon Garland, P, Los Angeles DodgersSaturday 12/6, 6:06 PM CT
The Orioles have garnered interest in Jon Garland, according to the Baltimore Sun.

Our View: The Orioles need help with their rotation as they lack a stable starter beyond ace Jeremy Guthrie. The Orioles had AJ Burnett high on their list, but he is falling out of reach for them. Garland had success with the White Sox prior to a disappointing campaign with the Angels in 2008, and would be a favorable addition for Baltimore.
Jon Garland, P, Los Angeles DodgersSunday 11/23, 8:29 AM CT
Jon Garland is on the Mets' radar, according to the NY Daily News.

Our View: Garland is coming off a disappointing campaign with the Angels as he held a poor 4.90 ERA and 1.51 WHIP, and the Mets could view him as a bargain signing if they fail to land their high-priced targets, such as Derek Lowe.
Jon Garland, P, Los Angeles DodgersWednesday 10/8, 8:55 AM CT
Impending free agent Jon Garland is not likely to re-sign with the Angels, according to the LA Times.

Our View: He was acquired in the deal that shipped veteran shortstop Orlando Cabrera to Chicago, but the Angels are looking to free up money to make a run at a top free agent, such as CC Sabathia. Garland won 14 games in 2008, but held a poor 4.90 ERA and 1.51 WHIP.
Jon Garland, P, Los Angeles DodgersFriday 9/26, 10:11 AM CT
Count Jon Garland as someone who doesn't believe that his regular season performance warrants a start in the playoffs, according to the Los Angeles Times. "If it was my decision, I wouldn't be a starter, not with what I've seen from Ervin Santana, John Lackey, Joe Saunders and Jered Weaver," Garland said.

Our View: Garland has posted a 7.22 ERA over his last seven starts but he is still 3-0 in that stretch thanks to an average of 8.29 runs of support per start in that stretch. We give Garland props for honestly assessing the situation, and we agree with him, he should pitch out of the bullpen.
Jon Garland, P, Los Angeles DodgersSunday 9/21, 8:56 AM CT
If Angels manager Mike Scioscia opts for a four-man rotation in the playoffs, he will have to choose between Jon Garland or Jered Weaver, with the other headed to the bullpen, according to the L.A. Times.

Our View: Though Garland has 14 wins to Weaver's 11, Garland otherwise has worse numbers pretty much across the board, making it likely he will be the one headed to the 'pen.
Jon Garland, P, Los Angeles DodgersFriday 9/19, 10:54 PM CT
Soon-to-be free agent Jon Garland had a forgettable night in Texas on Friday. The Rnagers got to him for nine runs in 2.1 innings of work. He surrendered 10 hits and a three-run shot to rookie Chris Davis.

Our View: Remarkably, Garland avoided the loss as the Angels came back to win this slugfest 15-13. Expect Garland to rebound in his next outing.
Jon Garland, P, Los Angeles DodgersWednesday 8/13, 12:05 AM CT
The Angels put the offense on the field to support RHP Jon Garland . Garland pitched seven innings, allowing three runs (all earned) on nine hits with one walk and four strikeouts.

Our View: Garland went 3-1 last month and now has his first win for August. He's giving up runs, but the offense keeps pulling him through.
Jon Garland, P, Los Angeles DodgersTuesday 8/12, 5:34 PM CT
The Angels square off against the Seattle Mariners tonight, and though the M's do not have a great hitting team, they pound Halos starter Jon Garland. Players currently on Seattle's roster have combined to hit .333 (48-for-144) in their career against him, led by Raul Ibanez and his .373 mark, Ichiro's .371 average, and Adrian Beltre's .357 average.

Our View: If you have Garland on your fantasy squad, it may not be the best night to start him. On the other hand, double check to be sure Ibanez, Ichiro and Beltre are all in there.
Jon Garland, P, Los Angeles DodgersThursday 7/31, 9:33 PM CT
Angels hurler Jon Garland picked up his tenth win of the season by throwing an efficient six innings, surrendering three earned runs on seven hits in the team's 12-6 win over New York.

Our View: Garland is a steady if unspectacular performer, and should only be used in AL-only leagues, as his overall numbers aren't good enough to be utilized in mixed leagues.
Jon Garland, P, Los Angeles DodgersSunday 7/20, 9:21 PM CT
Angels RHP Jon Garland failed to get the win, but his teammates made sure the offense came through late to put the Boston to the loss, 5-3. Garland went 6 2/3 innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits with three walks and six strikeouts.

Our View: This was a nice rebound for Garland after surrendering seven runs over 2 2/3 innings in his last outing. He failed to get the decision today and now stands at 8-6 on the season with a 4.12 ERA.
Jon Garland, P, Los Angeles DodgersFriday 7/18, 6:51 PM CT
The Angels had scheduled Jon Garland to make the start against Boston on Saturday, but reports of neck pain have led the team to push him back to Sunday, according to the Orange County Register.

Our View: Joe Saunders, fresh off his appearance in the All-Star game, will be moved up to Saturday to fill in for Garland. Garland is 1-0 against the Red Sox this season, but has an ERA of 6.00. He is only 4-5 in his career against Boston with an ERA of 5.57 (39 earned runs in 63 innings pitched).
Jon Garland, P, Los Angeles DodgersFriday 7/11, 11:05 PM CT
Jon Garland, 4-10 in his career against Oakland, was pulled out of the game in the bottom of the third after allowing seven runs on 10 hits and two walks.

Our View: After allowing just one run in nine innings five days ago, this is a disappointment. This has to be viewed as an anommally. He was 8-5 with a 3.76 entering Friday's game.
Jon Garland, P, Los Angeles DodgersSunday 7/6, 5:54 PM CT
Jon Garland threw a complete game against the Blue Jays on Sunday. He gave up just one run, a solo shot by Rod Barajas, and six hits on the day.

Our View: This was one of few quality starts for Garland at home where he had a 4.70 ERA prior to Sunday's start. He is 5-1 with a 3.06 ERA on the road. Over his last four appearances, he has a 2.57 ERA.
Jon Garland, P, Los Angeles DodgersSaturday 6/14, 12:08 AM CT
Jon Garland allowed five runs and 12 hits, walked one and struck out four in a 5-2 loss to the Atlanta Braves on Friday night.

Our View: The right-hander was finding success (3-0 with a 2.28 ERA over his previous seven starts) far above what his peripheral were representing. His 3.87 K Rate and 3.23 BB Rate coming into the game indicated that Garland was due to blow up. And while he walked only one and struck out four in the game, he was in the middle of the plate far too much to be successful.

Jon Garland entered the game averaging 2.58 K/9 only to strike out eight Athletics on his way to allowing two runs over seven innings to pick up his sixth victory of the year.

Our View: Where did this performance come from? Garland didn't have a single game with more than five K this season, but he has been on his game with just five runs allowed over his last three starts. Still, it's tough to recommend a pitcher who strikes out so few batters.
Jon Garland, P, Los Angeles DodgersSunday 6/1, 7:02 PM CT
Jon Garland threw 115 pitches over five innings, matching his shortest outing in 12 starts with the Angels. He allowed three runs on five hits, walked four and struck out three in the no-decision.

Our View: It's begun in a quiet kind of way. Garland walks four this outing, gives up runs in each of the first three innings, and escapes the loss because the Jays bullpen blows the ninth inning lead. The no-decision kept his career record against Toronto at 10-2, but the outing was just the first of many more like this to yet to come. The right-hander has been the benefactor of a high Strand Rate and evidence of that comes from his 2.39 K Rate and 3.14 Walk Rate. Owners that roster Garland should shop him fast while his value is still high.

Jon Garland didn't earn his sixth win of the season on Monday night, but he pitched well enough to do so. The Angels right-hander allowed only four hits, walked three and struck out five in 7.1 scoreless innings.

Our View: Garland, for the second straight start, has pitched over his head. As long as he keeps the ball on the ground he has a chance to be successful. In this game the Tigers were sloppy in their situational hitting and impatient at the plate resulting in a positive outing by the LA veteran. However, don't expect a pitcher with a 1.96 K/9 ratio to have anything more than a .500 record, at best. These kinds of outings for Garland are supposed to net him a win, because they will be few and far between.

Jon Garland will be targeting his sixth win of the season when the Angels host the Tigers tonight, according to MLB.com. Garland is 13-6 over 24 career outings against the Tigers, with a 4.08 ERA

Our View: Garland is 5-3 this season, but has a 4.34 ERA and a weak 1.48 WHIP over 64.1 innings, with a mere 14 strikeouts. He has been erratic from start to start, and remains a risky fantasy option, despite a favorable history against Detroit.
Jon Garland, P, Los Angeles DodgersFriday 5/9, 8:47 PM CT
Angels starter Jon Garland allowed no runs and four hits over eight innings in a no-decision against Tampa Bay on Friday night. The veteran right-hander walked three and struck out two before being replaced by Justin Speier in the ninth.

Our View: Speier proceeded to give up a leadoff single to B.J. Upton in the ninth and after retiring Carlos Pena allowed rookie third baseman Even Longoria to end the game with a two-run home run.
Jon Garland, P, Los Angeles DodgersSaturday 5/3, 5:42 PM CT
Jon Garland improved to 4-3 for the season in Saturday's 3-1 win over Baltimore. Garland only allowed one run on three hits over eight innings, with one walk and one strikeout.

Our View: Garland is going to have more strong outings like today, but his strikeout totals are going to remain low, as he only has 10 over 44.1 innings. He carried a poor 1.73 WHIP heading into today's game as well. He is a solid starter for the Angels, but his numbers don't translate well as a fantasy performer.
Jon Garland, P, Los Angeles DodgersWednesday 4/23, 7:35 AM CT
Jon Garland will take the mound against Boston tonight, according to MLB.com. He is currently 2-2 with a 4.81 ERA, and is 3-5 with a 5.53 ERA against the Red Sox lifetime.

Our View: Garland looked very strong at times in the early going this season, but still only racked up three strikeouts over 24.1 innings, and will be headed for a tough game tonight, while opposed by Daisuke Matsuzaka, who is 4-0 with a 3.14 ERA.
Jon Garland, P, Los Angeles DodgersFriday 4/18, 12:13 AM CT
Jon Garland recorded his second win of the season in a 5-3 win over the Kansas City Royals. Garland allowed two runs and seven hits over 6.1 innings of work. The right-hander issues three walks and struck out one.

Our View: Garland has beaten Kansas City more often than any team on his resume. The right-hander is 17-6 against the Royals and 11-1 at home.
Jon Garland, P, Los Angeles DodgersSaturday 4/12, 10:54 PM CT
Jon Garland suffered another poor outing this time at the hands of the Mariners as he allowed 12 hits and walk in five innings. Garland also allowed six runs, though only three where earned, as he fell to 1-2 on the year.

Our View: Through three starts Garland owns a 5.50 ERA and a total of two, yes two, K over 18 IP. Unless he misses more bats, the struggles will likely continue.
Jon Garland, P, Los Angeles DodgersSaturday 4/12, 2:55 PM CT
Jon Garland is set to take the hill today against Seattle, a team that he has fared well against, according to MLB.com. Garland is 6-2 with a 3.15 ERA over his career against the Mariners.

Our View: Garland should have another solid outing against the Mariners, and should be in your lineups.

Jon Garland was impressive in his debut for Los Angeles last week, holding the Twins to one run and six hits over eight innings of a 9-1 victory. That wasn't the case on Sunday when the Angels right-hander allowed seven runs and eight hits in five innings. Garland is a reserve mixed league option at best, and these kinds of appearances, home and away, will be the norm this season. The Angels picked Garland up to be an innings-eater, not an ace.
Jon Garland, P, Los Angeles DodgersTuesday 4/1, 10:32 PM CT
Jon Garland had quite a debut for the Angels Tuesday, holding the Twins to just one run on six hits and one walk over eight innings. He did not strike out a batter. It's hard to sustain success with so few strikeouts, but Garland has done just that the last few years. He won't have any troubles getting Ws in Anaheim this year.
Jon Garland, P, Los Angeles DodgersTuesday 4/1, 11:08 AM CT
Jon Garland is set to make his Angels' debut on Tuesday, according to The Sports Network. He was a key contributor during Chicago's magical run in 2005, and he is going to be counted on heavily by his new club, namely due to injuries to ace John Lackey and Kelvim Escobar. He will go up against Boof Bonser and the Twins.

Jon Garland was solid in a no decision against the Dodgers on Thursday, as he only allowed one run on five hits over five innings of work, with one walk and one strikeout. He lowered his ERA to 2.57 and ended his spring training on a high note.

The Angels acquired Jon Garland Monday in exchange for Orlando Cabrera and cash, according to ESPN Radio. Garland will enter a very strong rotation in LA, joining John Lackey, Kelvim Escobar and Jered Weaver. One would think leaving U.S. Cellular Field would be good for Garland, but he's actually pitched better there over the last couple of years.

The Yankees have begun high-level meetings in Tampa to discuss possible trades as the deadline approaches. The New York Post reports the team may have interest in a pair of White Sox, Jon Garland and reliever Matt Thorton. A move to the Bronx would be nice for Garland’s fantasy value because he’ll get to leave U.S. Cellular Field and play with a team that’ll provide much more run support.

Jon Garland, despite suffering from a knot in his right shoulder, allowed two runs and eight hits over seven innings in winning his fourth straight start against Baltimore on Thursday. He struck out three and walked two. This was his first start since being hammered for 12 runs in 3 1/3 innings by Minnesota.

Jon Garland is again bothered by a knot in his right shoulder, though it's deeper now than it was during spring training. He said it doesn't hurt, but it does make it harder for him to loosen up and reduces his velocity, according to the Daily Southtown. "Definitely doesn't feel 100 percent," Garland said. "To me, I think it's something that's going to be with me for the rest of my career, so I either learn to pitch with it, learn to deal with it or I'm done." He's pitched really well this season, but he was shelled in his last outing for 11 earned runs over 3 1/3 innings pitched, so it's hard to think the knot didn't play a role in his struggles Friday. Nonetheless, he plans to take the mound on Thursday after the All-Star break.

Jon Garland tied a career-high by allowing 12 runs, 11 of them earned, in the first game of a doubleheader Friday afternoon. He gave up 11 hits, tying a season-high, walked three and did not strike out a batter in 3 1/3 innings. The thrashing was enough to raise his ERA from 3.15 to 3.92.

Jon Garland allowed five runs (four earned) in seven innings Thursday in his final spring start, the Chicago Tribune reports. Bothered by a knot near his shoulder earlier in spring, Garland said Thursday's outing was "by far" the best he has felt this spring. "I didn't have to get up and stretch it out over a seven-inning period," he said. "I was able to sit down and relax and go back out there and feel good. It's a good sign."
Jon Garland, P, Los Angeles DodgersMonday 3/12, 7:14 AM CT
Jon Garland threw a bullpen session Sunday, according to the Chicago Tribune. Although Garland still had stiffness in his shoulder, pitching coach Don Cooper still hopes the problem will go away like it did last season after Garland's first start. "I just hope it comes around faster this year," Cooper said. "What we know is he comes out of it. He could still win with what he's got, but it can't change his approach [of being] aggressive, coming at people and all of those things. Slow your body down, guide the ball, those things can't happen because then you get in bad habits."
Jon Garland, P, Los Angeles DodgersSaturday 3/10, 12:51 AM CT
After his second subpar outing in three spring training starts, Jon Garland said on Friday that he has a "knot" in his right shoulder. He said it doesn't hurt but it makes it difficult to throw the ball where he wants to. "I kind of have that same feeling that I did towards the end of spring last year," Garland told the AP. "It just feels tight. Last year somehow it worked its way out, and hopefully it works its way out this year."

ESPN's Jayson Stark reports that a proposed deal sending Jon Garland to the Astros has no chance of happening as presently constructed. The White Sox were reportedly set to receive Taylor Buccholz and Wily Taveras, which apparently was not enough for GM Kenny Williams.

Ken Rosenthal of FoxSports.com is reporting that the White Sox could deal Jon Garland to the Astros for prospect Jason Hirsh, Wily Taveras and Taylor Buchholz. However, White Sox GM Ken Williams has said that a deal is not close.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal is reporting that the White Sox are close to dealing Jon Garland, most likely to the Rangers. Minor-league lefthander John Danks, considered to be one of Texas' better prospects, would likely be part of any Rangers package to obtain Garland.
