Cristian Guzman, SS, Washington NationalsWednesday 10/7, 2:22 PM CT
Cristian Guzman is likely to play second base for the Nationals in 2010, according to MLBlogs.com.

Our View: The team feels he no longer has enough range to be an everyday shortstop. In 135 games in 2009, he batted .284 with 54 RBI. He was unable to play the field at all for the last ten (or so) days of the season because of an injured shoulder, and will have it scoped on Thursday.
Cristian Guzman, SS, Washington NationalsSaturday 9/26, 12:27 PM CT
Cristian Guzman, who's logged just two at-bats Washington's past two days and was not in their lineup on Saturday, may be shut down for the season in order to rest a tender right shoulder that has affected his throwing in the field, according to the Washington Times.

Our View: Owners that had been using the steady shortstop this season would be best off dropping him and adding someone else for the final week of the season.
Cristian Guzman, SS, Washington NationalsThursday 9/24, 9:11 AM CT
Cristian Guzman will not be in the Nationals lineup on Thursday so he can rest a "tender" right shoulder, according to MLBlogs.com.

Our View: Guzman is batting .285 with 50 RBI in 127 games this season. Ian Desmond will likely start in his place.
Cristian Guzman, SS, Washington NationalsSaturday 9/12, 7:45 AM CT
The Washington Times is reporting that the Nationals have approached shortstop Cristian Guzman about switching positions for next season. The team feels they will need to bring in another middle infielder, and it might make more sense to look for a shortstop and move Guzman to second base.

Our View: Guzman hasn't responded to the Nats yet, so it would seem that he isn't very happy about the proposed switch. He won't have a choice if the team decides to make a move, and it could be better for the Nats if they go that route.
Cristian Guzman, SS, Washington NationalsMonday 8/10, 3:18 PM CT
Contrary to a previous report, Nationals' blogger Bill Ladson is reporting at MLBlogs.com that shortstop Cristian Guzman has cleared waivers and will not be traded by the team. It was previous reported that Guzman had been claimed by the Boston Red Sox.

Our View: Guzman doesn't want to be traded, and the Nats apparently have no desire to move him. It wouldn't surprise anyone if something did happen with him, but right now it looks like Guzman is staying in DC.
Cristian Guzman, SS, Washington NationalsSunday 8/9, 10:02 AM CT
Cristian Guzman has been claimed off waivers by the Boston Red Sox, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View: Guzman, hitting .315 while rapping 122 hits this season, would be a huge upgrade for the Sox at shortstop, where both Nick Green and Jed Lowrie have failed to be a factor. He is due $8 million next season, but with the Red Sox foundering mightily in the standings right now, they should do whatever they have to do to pry him from the Nats.
Cristian Guzman, SS, Washington NationalsFriday 7/17, 7:17 PM CT
Cristian Guzman was a late scratch from the Nationals' lineup on Friday due to bunions on his feet, according to MLBlogs.com. Guzman is considered day-to-day for the rest of the weekend.

Our View: Guzman said he was sore today, but he should be available at some point this weekend. Fantasy owners should check back tomorrow for an update on his status, but he should be back in the next few days for sure.
Cristian Guzman, SS, Washington NationalsFriday 7/10, 10:27 PM CT
Cristian Guzman went 1-for-5 with a single and two RBI in tonight's 6-5 loss at Houston.

Our View: Guzman was in need of a solid outing, as he was hitless over his previous three games (12 at-bats).
Cristian Guzman, SS, Washington NationalsWednesday 7/8, 1:56 PM CT
Cristian Guzman is not in the Nationals' lineup for their Wednesday afternoon game against the Rockies. Guzman has been 0-for-8 since being named to the final ballot for the All-Star game, and he will not get a chance to improve his stock today.

Our View: It seems a little bit interesting that the Nats would sit Guzman on the last day of the voting, but Alberto Gonzalez is playing short and hitting second. Guzman should return for the next game, but don't expect him to win the spot on the All-Star team.
Cristian Guzman, SS, Washington NationalsThursday 6/25, 9:15 PM CT
Cristian Guzman had only one hit on Thursday, but drove in two runs as the Nationals crushed the Red Sox 9-3.

Our View: Guzman just keeps hitting, and is near the top of the National League in average at .336. He will likely be an All-Star next month, and is serviceable at shortstop despite his lack of power.
Cristian Guzman, SS, Washington NationalsThursday 6/18, 8:39 PM CT
Cristian Guzman had his second straight three-hit game on Thursday as the Nationals beat the Yankees 3-0 to take two of three at Yankee Stadium.

Our View: So much for that supposed Yankees massacre this week. Guzman paced a fighting Nats team while the Yanks looked punchless. Maybe Manny Acta will get to keep his job after all.
Cristian Guzman, SS, Washington NationalsWednesday 6/17, 9:24 PM CT
Cristian Guzman was 3-for-5 with a run scored as the Nationals defeated the Yankees 3-2 on Wednesday. All three hits were singles.

Our View: Guzman continues to hit his way on base. He only saw nine pitches in five at bats tonight, but you can't argue with the production, or the .318 batting average.
Cristian Guzman, SS, Washington NationalsTuesday 6/16, 9:22 PM CT
Cristian Guzman went hitless Tuesday for only the second time this month in a game he started.

Our View: Guzman is having another fantastic season and will likely be the Nats lone All-Star representative in St. Louis next month.
Cristian Guzman, SS, Washington NationalsThursday 6/11, 7:28 PM CT
Cristian Guzman went 1-for-5 with an RBI single in Thursday's 3-2 win over the Reds at Nationals Park.

Our View: Guzman has a four-game hitting streak, with two RBI over the span. He is hitting well so in June with a .314 batting average (11-for-35).
Cristian Guzman, SS, Washington NationalsWednesday 6/3, 4:00 PM CT
The Washington Post reports that Cristian Guzman is not in the lineup for Wednesday's contest.

Our View: Guzman missed time with a sore thumb and that may be the reason he's out tonight. He started yesterday and could have aggravated the injury. Alberto Gonzalez will start in his place.
Cristian Guzman, SS, Washington NationalsTuesday 6/2, 3:57 PM CT
After missing the team's past two games with a sore thumb, Cristian Guzman will be back in the Nationals lineup tonight and leading off according to The Washington Post.

Our View: Start him without hesitation.
Cristian Guzman, SS, Washington NationalsSaturday 5/23, 10:38 PM CT
Cristian Guzman belted his second home run of the year against Baltimore on Saturday.

Our View: Guzman is a lock to bat well above .300, so any added power or speed comes as a bonus from this unspectacular yet reliable fantasy shortstop.
Cristian Guzman, SS, Washington NationalsSunday 5/17, 5:03 PM CT
Cristian Guzman collected three more hits in Sunday's 8-6 loss to the Phillies. He is now hitting .381 on the season.

Our View: Of Guzman's 27 hits, 24 of them have been singles. He has not drawn a walk and stolen only one bag. Yes, his batting average is incredible, but it gives the illusion that he is a much better fantasy player than he is. He is certainly serviceable, but he really only contributes in two categories.
Cristian Guzman, SS, Washington NationalsTuesday 5/5, 7:11 PM CT
Cristian Guzman was 3-for-6 with his first home run of the season on Tuesday. He also scored two runs and drove in two in a suspended 11-inning contest against the Astros.

Our View: Guzman still hasn't drawn a walk this season, but fantasy owners aren't likely worried about it. He's now hitting .381 on the season. The average will most certainly drop, but owners should enjoy Guzman's hot start while it lasts.
Cristian Guzman, SS, Washington NationalsTuesday 5/5, 1:18 PM CT
Cristian Guzman has 57 at-bats this season without picking up a single walk, but that doesn't mean he is going to alter an approach at the dish that has led to a .368 batting average, according to MLB.com.

Our View: While the average is great, sooner or later a lack of plate discipline will certainly drag his average down. There are very few hitters in the game who can eschew the walk entirely and still be successful, so monitor this situation closely.
Cristian Guzman, SS, Washington NationalsWednesday 4/29, 12:18 PM CT
The Nationals activated shortstop Cristian Guzman from the 15-day DL on Wednesday, MLB.com confirms. He was out due to a strained left hamstring.

Our View: Guzman will hopefully help beef up the top spot in the Nationals order, which has been a weak area all season long. His glove should also be a welcome sight for the team's pitchers.
Cristian Guzman, SS, Washington NationalsMonday 4/27, 8:13 PM CT
MLB.com reports Cristian Guzman will be activated from the DL when he is eligible to return on April 29. He has been out with a strained hamstring and will be slated into the leadoff role for the Nationals.

Our View: Guzman was hitting .515 in his first 33 at bats. He is not much of a power threat but he should be a valuable source of runs and batting average.
Cristian Guzman, SS, Washington NationalsTuesday 4/21, 6:59 PM CT
Cristian Guzman will head to extended spring training on Wednesday to continue his rehab from a sore hamstring, according to MASN. He is eligible to return to the team on April 29 and is expected to join the Nationals next week in Philadelphia.

Our View: Guzman is 17-for-33 to start the season and he appears to be in line for another season of hitting above .300. He hits second in the Nationals order, so he should also make a run at 100 runs scored assuming the hamstring injury is not a lingering one.
Cristian Guzman, SS, Washington NationalsSaturday 4/18, 12:02 AM CT
The Nationals placed shortstop Cristian Guzman (hamstring) on the 15-day DL following Friday's loss to the Marlins, the Washington Post confirms. They will add infielder Alex Cintron to their 40-man roster on Saturday. Guzman strained his left hamstring on Monday.

Our View: We expect the Nationals to continue using Alberto Gonzalez at shortstop, and fantasy owners may only be without Guzman through next week.
Cristian Guzman, SS, Washington NationalsFriday 4/17, 8:55 PM CT
Shortstop Cristian Guzman has suffered a setback in his return from a sore left hamstring, MLB.com reports. The Nationals will decide on Saturday if they plan to place him on the disabled list. Guzman suffered the injury on Monday.

Our View: It sounds like we'll be seeing a lot more of Alberto Gonzalez in the near future. The Nationals will likely call up a shortstop (Alex Cintron) if Guzman does land on the disabled list.
Cristian Guzman, SS, Washington NationalsFriday 4/17, 12:48 PM CT
The Washington Post is reporting that Cristian Guzman may return for Saturday's game against the Florida Marlins. He has been out of the lineup since he strained his hamstring on Monday.

Our View: Manager Manny Acta said Guzman may be available to pinch-hit Friday in an emergency situation, but he will not likely see the field until Saturday or Sunday. Watch to see how his hamstring reacts when he does get the nod.
Cristian Guzman, SS, Washington NationalsTuesday 4/14, 10:44 AM CT
Cristian Guzman is dealing with a strained left hamstring, according to the Washington Post.

Our View: He sustained the injury during Monday's game, and it is uncertain how much time he may need to miss. He was off to a hot start with 17 hits over his first 33 at-bats.
Cristian Guzman, SS, Washington NationalsMonday 4/13, 6:18 PM CT
The AP reports that Cristian Guzman was removed from Monday's game after his fifth hit for a pinch-runner. He came out of the batter's box awkwardly and his status is not currently known.

Our View: We'll certainly update you as more news is made available. Guzman is hitting .515 after a week of play.
Cristian Guzman, SS, Washington NationalsMonday 4/13, 5:44 PM CT
Cristian Guzman had a huge day at the plate Monday, going 5-for-5 with two runs and two RBI in his team's loss to the Phillies.

Our View: Guzman has been on fire to start the season, hitting .515 in the Nats' first seven games. He can hit for average and score some runs, but he doesn't offer much else to fantasy owners.
Cristian Guzman, SS, Washington NationalsMonday 3/16, 2:34 PM CT
Cristian Guzman exited Monday's game after sustaining a cut on his left little toe, according to the Washington Post.

Our View: Guzman is considered day-to-day. Guzman can hit for a solid average, but won't offer much in the speed or power categories among fantasy shortstops.
Cristian Guzman, SS, Washington NationalsFriday 9/26, 9:26 PM CT
Cristian Guzman went 2-for-4 with an RBI in Friday's 8-4 loss to the Phillies. Both of his knocks were singles. The Nationals only registered six hits in the game.

Our View: Guzman has been hot down the stretch as he registered two hits in five of his last eight contests.
Cristian Guzman, SS, Washington NationalsWednesday 9/24, 11:15 PM CT
Cristian Guzman missed Wednesday's game against Florida due to the flu according to the AP.

Our View: With the season over in Washington, don't be surprised if this flu shuts down Guzman for the remainder of the season.
Cristian Guzman, SS, Washington NationalsTuesday 9/23, 10:51 PM CT
Cristian Guzman sat out Tuesday's game because of the flu, according to the Washington Post. "I'm real sick," Guzman replied when asked how he felt. Alberto Gonzalez replaced him in the lineup and had four hits.

Our View: It sounds like Guzman might sit out again tomorrow unless he improves greatly over the next 24 hours.
Cristian Guzman, SS, Washington NationalsTuesday 9/16, 9:35 PM CT
Cristian Guzman picked up the only RBI in the Mets/Nationals contest Tuesday. He had two hits and a steal on the night.

Our View: Guzman has quietly had a fantastic year. He's in the top 10 in the NL with his .314 batting average.
Cristian Guzman, SS, Washington NationalsWednesday 9/10, 10:22 PM CT
Cristian Guzman continued to make like Derek Jeter on Wednesday night as he went 3-for-5 with five RBI, thanks in part to two home runs.

Our View: Guzman is now hitting .314 overall thanks to hitting .359 over his last 26 games, and he is pushing for the title of most valuable offensive waiver-wire pick up in the National League in 2008.
Cristian Guzman, SS, Washington NationalsThursday 9/4, 9:11 PM CT
Cristian Guzman lost an 8-game hitting streak that produced 21 hits by going 0-for-3 with three strikeouts and a caught stealing on Thursday night.

Our View: Well, if you're going to lose a streak, you might as well go out big right? Guzman is hitting .309 with 69 runs scored, and considering his cost on draft day, you had better not dare complain about this rough outing if you have him on your roster.
Cristian Guzman, SS, Washington NationalsWednesday 9/3, 10:17 PM CT
Cristian Guzman was 3-for-5 with three RBI and two runs scored in Wednesday night's victory over the Phillies.

Our View: Guzman now has eight consecutive multi-hit games making him one of the hottest hitters in all of baseball.
Cristian Guzman, SS, Washington NationalsTuesday 9/2, 3:12 PM CT
Cristian Guzman and Bronson Arroyo share the NL Player of the Week award, according to the AP. Guzman led the league in batting with a .552 average (16-for-29), with one homer and six RBI. Arroyo led the NL in innings pitched with 16 while going 2-0 with a 1.69 ERA, including the Reds’ first complete game of the season against the Astros on Tuesday.

Our View: Guzman carried the Nationals to a 6-0 record over the award-winning week, and became just the second player in franchise history to hit for the cycle (Thursday against the Dodgers).
Cristian Guzman, SS, Washington NationalsSunday 8/31, 3:55 PM CT
Cristian Guzman collected two hits in five at-bats in the Nationals 8-4 win over the Braves. He also scored a run and drove one in.

Our View: Guzman has bee hot in August, hitting .338 on the month, and will continue to give fantasy owners a good shot of batting average.
Cristian Guzman, SS, Washington NationalsThursday 8/28, 9:25 PM CT
Cristian Guzman had a night to remember on Thursday as he had a single, double, triple and home run against the Dodgers on his way to hitting for the cycle.

Our View: Guzman is only the second National to hit for the cycle (Brad Wilkerson on April 6th, 2005), as he continues to provide more bang for the buck that most players who were left on waivers in most leagues at the start of the year. The effort tonight pushed his average up to .303.
Cristian Guzman, SS, Washington NationalsFriday 8/15, 6:38 PM CT
Cristian Guzman was out of the lineup Friday for a second straight game because of a sore left thumb, according to the AP. "We're going to give him a couple more days," manager Manny Acta said. "It's still hurting him."

Our View: Don't expect to see Guzman over the weekend, but he should be good to go for next week.
Cristian Guzman, SS, Washington NationalsWednesday 8/13, 9:10 PM CT
Cristian Guzman went 0-for-4 with a strikeout in the Nats 12-0 loss to the New York Mets. He left four runners on base and also made an error.

Our View: Guzman was one of Washington's only fantasy options, but he is struggling lately with a .172 average in August.
Cristian Guzman, SS, Washington NationalsWednesday 8/6, 9:49 AM CT
Cristian Guzman, who is recovering from a left thumb contusion, took batting practice Tuesday and should be ready to return to game action in a few days, according to the Washington Post.

Our View: Guzman hasn't had an at-bat with Washington since July 25, and may need a few games before he regains his stroke at the plate. He leads the club with a .303 average.
Cristian Guzman, SS, Washington NationalsMonday 8/4, 10:40 PM CT
Cristian Guzman is slowly progressing from his injured thumb, and he will take batting practice on Tuesday, reports Nationals.com.

Our View: No word on when Guzman will be back, but he is one of the few candidates on the Nats that can be considered a legit fantasy player due to the fact he is hitting better than .300, and has scored 57 runs.
Cristian Guzman, SS, Washington NationalsWednesday 7/30, 12:58 PM CT
Cristian Guzman is considered day-to-day after an MRI on his left thumb came up negative on Wednesday, according to the AP.

Our View: This is good news as it appears he will need to spend time on the DL. He currently leads Washington with a .303 average, with 27 doubles, three triples, five homers, and 57 runs scored.
Cristian Guzman, SS, Washington NationalsTuesday 7/29, 11:22 PM CT
Nationals shortstop Cristian Guzman will undergo an MRI on Wednesday on his sore right thumb, according to the AP. Guzman said he is feeling better and the test is being done solely for precautionary reasons.

Our View: It doesn't sound like Guzman will head to the DL, and Washington better hope that's the case. Without him, their horrid offense would be even more brutal.
Cristian Guzman, SS, Washington NationalsSunday 7/27, 9:02 AM CT
Cristian Guzman's X-ray revealed a contusion to his sore right thumb, according to MLB.com.

Our View: He sat out Saturday, and will miss Sunday's game as well due to the ailment. He is considered day-to-day, and shouldn't need a stint on the DL.
Cristian Guzman, SS, Washington NationalsTuesday 7/22, 4:53 PM CT
The Sports Ticker reports that the Washington Nationals have rewarded a career year from Cristian Guzman with a two-year contract extension.

Our View: Guzman is coming off of his second All-Star appearance and has been the best player for the Nationals this season. He is hitting .310 with 56 runs scored.
Cristian Guzman, SS, Washington NationalsWednesday 7/16, 6:31 PM CT
Cristian Guzman may not be anywhere near the ideal hitter, but given the extensive injuries the Nationals are dealing with, he has found himself in that spot more frequently of late, according to MLB.com. "He's not your ideal third hitter, but he's our best hitter," manager Manny Acta said. "It's the fact of trying to find guys on the top in front of Guzman and guys behind Guzman. We are trying to find a combination that will help us score some runs. It's tough."

Our View: Guzman is hitting .313 on the year though with a mere 30 RBI and a .764 OPS. Obviously he isn't remotely suited for the role, bu the club is just trying to make due until Ryan Zimmerman and Dimitri Young return.
Cristian Guzman, SS, Washington NationalsThursday 7/10, 2:46 PM CT
The Washington Nationals have been attempting to sign Cristian Guzman to a contract extension, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Guzman is having a terrific year, and is a good option for fantasy owners seeking a boost in batting average, though he will not provide much else.
Cristian Guzman, SS, Washington NationalsSunday 7/6, 3:41 PM CT
Cristian Guzman went 1-for-5 and contributed two RBI in Sunday's 6-5 loss to the Reds. His hit was good for a single.

Our View: Guzman has extended his hitting streak to 14 games, with five multi-hit efforts over the span.
Cristian Guzman, SS, Washington NationalsThursday 7/3, 9:23 PM CT
Cristian Guzman went 2-for-4 and extended his hitting streak to 11 games in the 5-3 Thursday loss to the Cincinnati Reds. Guzman is hitting .317 in 366 at-bats this season.

Our View: This is the second double-digit hitting streak that Guzman has recorded this year. He had a 12 game streak from June 7-19.
Cristian Guzman, SS, Washington NationalsFriday 6/27, 7:46 AM CT
The Washington Post suggests that Cristian Guzman's improved play this year is due to his improved eyesight. Guzmán, 30, is batting .311.

Our View: Manager Manny Acta believes he's the team's likely all-star representative. Guzman leads the National League with 106 hits and he, according to the report, owes it to his offseason Lasik procedure.
Cristian Guzman, SS, Washington NationalsWednesday 6/25, 7:36 PM CT
Cristian Guzman has been offered a two year extension to remain with the Nationals, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Guzman is having his best season in years, and certainly his best effort since signing a four year deal for $16 million to join the Nationals franchise. If Guzman continues to hit over .300 and play solid defense, the Nats would be wise to lock him up.
Cristian Guzman, SS, Washington NationalsThursday 6/19, 3:26 PM CT
Cristian Guzman went 2-for-4 with an RBI in Thursday's 9-3 loss to the Twins. Both of his hits were singles.

Our View: He continues to swing a hot bat in June, as he raised his average to .359 (28-for-78).
Cristian Guzman, SS, Washington NationalsThursday 6/12, 3:41 PM CT
Cristian Guzman went 3-for-5 with three RBI in Thursday's 7-5 loss to the Pirates.

Our View: He has raised his season average to .314, and this was the most RBI he registered in a game, since racking up six on May 3, which was also against the Pirates.
Cristian Guzman, SS, Washington NationalsWednesday 6/11, 9:48 PM CT
Cristian Guzman went 1-for-5 on Wednesday night as each of the first seven hitters in the Nationals order had a single hit.

Our View: Guzman is hitting .309 which is better than the average of such luminaries as Hanley Ramirez, Miguel Tejada, Jose Reyes and Derek Jeter. Who would have predicted that?
Cristian Guzman, SS, Washington NationalsFriday 5/30, 8:22 AM CT
According to the Nationals team website, shortstop Cristian Guzman is having the best year of his career. Entering Friday's action against the Diamondbacks, Guzman is hitting .304 with five home runs and 20 RBI, and is on pace to collect 200 hits and score 100 runs for the first time in his career.

Our View: Guzman, in the final year of his contract, wants a new two-year deal at a fair price with Washington.
Cristian Guzman, SS, Washington NationalsMonday 5/19, 9:12 PM CT
Cristian Guzman had three hits and three runs scored from the number two hole for the Nationals on Monday night.

Our View: Guzman pushed his average back over .300, it's now .307, and at the rate he is scoring runs, he certainly is making himself quite the useful play in NL Only leagues.
Cristian Guzman, SS, Washington NationalsSunday 5/18, 6:04 PM CT
Cristian Guzman hit his fourth home run of the season on Sunday on his way to two hits, a run and and RBI.

Our View: Guzman continues to hit at a near .300 clip while scoring a lot of runs, he has 30, but he no longer runs (two SB), and he certainly isn't a long ball threat, meaning he is a really nothing more than a depth player except in NL Only leagues.
Cristian Guzman, SS, Washington NationalsSaturday 5/3, 3:59 PM CT
The Washington Nationals scored nine runs today and needed each and every one of them to secure the win over the Pittsburgh Pirates, the bulk of that damage coming off the bat of SS Cristian Guzman . Guzman went 4-for-5, belting his eighth double and third home run of the season to total six RBIs and two runs scored.

Our View: Guzman had been struggling versus Pitt, going just 1-for-8 coming into this game. This was his first home run since April 9th.
Cristian Guzman, SS, Washington NationalsWednesday 4/9, 10:26 PM CT
Cristian Guzman hit a solo homer off Marlins starter Scott Olsen in Wednesday's loss to Florida. The long ball was Guzman's second of the season and bumped his RBI total to six.
Cristian Guzman, SS, Washington NationalsMonday 4/7, 9:56 PM CT
Cristian Guzman had a splendid evening for the Nationals with three hits, three RBI and two runs scored from the leadoff spot. Something about wearing a Nationals uniform really agrees with Guzman who despite a career .263 batting average now owns a .307 average over his past 54 games with the club.
Cristian Guzman, SS, Washington NationalsWednesday 4/2, 8:49 PM CT
Cristian Guzman had two hits on Wednesday from the leadoff spot for the Nationals. Ronnie Belliard went 0-for-4 to lower his average on the early year to .083, but unless his glove fails him, it doesn't seem like he has to fear losing playing time to Felipe Lopez. Guzman owns a career .263 batting average but has somehow managed to hit .330 over his last 288 AB for the Nationals dating back to the start of the 2007 season.
Cristian Guzman, SS, Washington NationalsMonday 3/31, 8:11 PM CT
Cristian Guzman, leading off for the Nationals, went 2-for-6 with two runs scored in Monday's win over Philadelphia. Guzman and Lastings Milledge, the one and two hitters for the Nats, were on base five times in the game.
Cristian Guzman, SS, Washington NationalsSunday 3/9, 7:54 PM CT
Cristian Guzman homered from both sides of the plate on Sunday helping the Washington Nationals beat the Cleveland Indians in a split-squad affair. Guzman finished with three hits and four RBI. He hit a three-run homer off starter Jeremy Sowers in the second inning batting right-handed and a solo shot in the fourth batting left-handed against Rick Bauer.
Cristian Guzman, SS, Washington NationalsWednesday 3/5, 6:48 PM CT
Cristian Guzman went 2-for-4 with a run scored on Wednesday as he attempts to recapture a starting spot with the Nationals a year after being limited to just 174 AB due to injury. With Ronnie Belliard at second and Felipe Lopez at SS it appears that Guzman will be the team's backup middle infielder, though they are paying him an awful lot of money to fill that role.
Cristian Guzman, SS, Washington NationalsSaturday 9/22, 12:17 AM CT
The Nationals activated Cristian Guzman from the DL on Friday. He had been out with a sprained left thumb, and it was originally thought that he was done for the season. Guzman was used as a defensive replacement in the ninth inning Friday, and it's unlikely he'll see a ton of playing time over the final week.
Cristian Guzman, SS, Washington NationalsWednesday 9/19, 11:00 AM CT
Cristian Guzman could make it back to the Nats for the final week of the regular season. The shortstop, who has been out since June with torn ligaments in his left thumb, took batting practice Tuesday. If he has no further complications, Guzman will take several at-bats in a simulated game either tomorrow or Friday before possibly participating in a few instructional league games in Florida. If all goes well, he could be back sometime next week, but manager Manny Acta isn't sure bringing Guzman back is worth the risk. "I don't know how much a few games is going to do for him," Acta said in the Washington Post. "But if he's able to do it, at least he knows he's back for good from that surgery."
Cristian Guzman, SS, Washington NationalsMonday 9/3, 8:57 AM CT
The Nationals may get Cristian Guzman back in the mix this season after all. "Can't tell you how soon he's ready," GM Jim Bowden said, according to the Washington Post. "But I hope for the last 10 days, two weeks, he'll be playing some. That's our plan." Guzman had been expected to miss the remainder of the season due to thumb surgery, but it looks like he might make it back in action.
Cristian Guzman, SS, Washington NationalsMonday 6/25, 8:46 PM CT
Cristian Guzman will miss the rest of the season following surgery on Monday to repair a torn ligament in his left thumb, according to the AP. Guzman sprained his left thumb in the fifth inning Sunday while tagging out Cleveland's Josh Barfield at second base on a steal attempt. He did not leave the game. "He came in and right away he showed me his thumb," Nationals manager Manny Acta said Monday. "It didn't look right. I was going to take him out of the game; he refused. He said 'No! No! No! I can play. I'm fine."
Cristian Guzman, SS, Washington NationalsSunday 6/24, 6:14 PM CT
Cristian Guzman was placed on the 15-day disabled list Sunday afternoon after suffering a sprained left thumb against the Indians. Expect Felipe Lopez to see most of the time at shortstop while Guzman is recovering. There is no word yet on how long he is to miss.
Cristian Guzman, SS, Washington NationalsSunday 6/17, 5:19 AM CT
Cristian Guzman was given a routine day off Saturday, the AP reports. He'll be back in the lineup Sunday. The much-maligned shortstop has surprised through 145 at-bats this year, hitting .324.
Cristian Guzman, SS, Washington NationalsThursday 5/3, 10:54 AM CT
